Tye Dilinger coming out #10 in Battle Royals was a tired joke the last time WWE used it, please don't make this a thing in AEW.

They used their hiring of a transgender wrestler to generate some media buzz, but it's beginning to look like the transgender thing might be the only reason they hired her, because she's pretty dire in the ring as far as I can see.

Shame about the mess-up in the joshi match, they could have used a more auspicious introduction to the American crowd. Still, the fact that all of them besides Aja came in to dead crowds and actually succeeded in waking them up during the match says a lot about their skills.

JR needs to go.....I'm sure his input as Senior Advisor is still valuable, but his commentary is terrible these days. JR will probably be happy about that, since he sounds like he didn't even want to be there.

Oh, and the constant jabs at WWE and Triple H needs to stop too. I don't even watch WWE anymore, and I could care less what AEW thinks of them. Get your own ---- together before you worry about how bad another company is.

Always enjoyed Goldust's work, but this match reminds me a bit of back when TNA was trying too hard to scream "WE'RE NOT PG LIKE WWE". Excessive bleeding exposing asses on screen just strikes me as trying too hard. Thank God they didn't stoop to unprotected chairshots.

I got high expectations for the last 2 matches, especially the main event. Hope they don't disappoint.

I've been hearing about how the Lucha Bros have become rather lazy workers who dial it in while they were on Impact (which I don't watch), but I'm glad to see that either the rumours were fake or they are clearly on their game tonight. Awesome match thus far!

Hiring him in the first place was a mistake. Using the 10 gimmicks is the only thing he's got.

2. I hated the way they booked that whole friggen women's match. A 1v1v1v1 match with two monster heels is a nightmare to layout and they did about as well as you could do. Basically trading back-and-forth between them for spots. I thought it went very well for the hotshot booking. And I thank the lord that the teased Brani post-match angle didn't happen.

3. Whoever that ringbell guy is, I think he needs to find new employment, I felt so bad for them after they worked their butt off to bring the crowd up from post-wake levels. Even still other than some springboard awkwardness and Grandma Aja spots, this was a really phenomenal match. Best Joshi match in the US maybe ever.

Ok, they definitely could have cut down a little on the finisher spams at the end. Other than that, great match.

According to TEW you just need 2 great matches (including main event) to make a successful show, and we now have 2 matches that can fill the potential show-stealer spot (Cody/Dustin & Lucha Bros/Bucks). Now we just need the main event to deliver.

EDIT: I also hope that this trend of "The Elite and their buddies win" doesn't become a thing for AEW. It's bad enough to have a Triple H or Jeff Jarrett booking themselves in the spotlight, it'd be worse to have a whole clique of guys doing it. I understand why they're doing it for their first show, I just hope it doesn't persist.

Good, they broke the trend of Elite clean sweep. Omega is the biggest star in the Elites and also the only one who didn't book himself to win.

Ambrose just rekindled that feud with Jericho over a murdered potted plant!

Main event delivered, so good show. It hasn't hooked me to it follow the way LU did, but I'd be happy to keep an eye out for their TV show when it finally starts. That's when I'd be able to tell if they're consistent with storytelling and character, which is what I watch wrestling for. Right now the only story that sticks with me is Cody/Dustin. Still hasn't see enough to care about most of the characters beyond the few that I've watched in other companies before. First impression is that I haven't seen any really likeable characters at all besides people like Riho and Sakazaki who aren't signed for the long-term.

The Casino Battle Royale - F+, they built this jobber fest huge and it was a jobber fest. Hangman even got verbally eviscerated and treated like garbage later. Quality contender for your new world title.

Kip Sabian defeated Sammy Guevara - D-, this was a nothing match really.

SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky) defeated Strong Hearts (Cima, T-Hawk, and El Lindaman) - C+, this was a solid PPV opener.

Britt Baker defeated Nyla Rose, Kylie Rae and Awesome Kong - C - Hotshot hurt the match but got a good reaction so probably a wash. Rae and Baker looked great, the two heels seemed to really hurt each other.

Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) defeated The Human Highlighter Box (Angélico and Jack Evans) - B, really fun spot fest

Hikaru Shida, Riho Abe, and Ryo Mizunami defeated Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki, and Emi Sakura - C+, From mortuary to wrestling crowd in 12 easy minutes. Bell attendants be damned.

Cody (with Brandi Rhodes) defeated Dustin Rhodes - A, this was match of the year contend until the flat finish. Still fantastic, the amount of color Dustin got would have made even Dusty blush. He's definitely Virgil Runnels baby boy, left like a pint on the canvas tonight.

The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) © defeated The Lucha Bros (Penta El Zero M and Fénix) - B-, I don't want to say ho-hum Bucks match, but I mean them winning and leaving with the AAA belts just felt like the total HHH thing to do in all the wrong ways.

Chris Jericho defeated Kenny Omega - B-, pretty underwhelmed Jericho looked old, Omega looked sloppy. Both had multiple indy, do it over spots, including the finishing sequence and a DDT spot that Omega took and then covered Jericho for... reasons? Moxley coming out to take the spotlight off the title felt absolutely bush league to me and they've succeeded in reducing it to a prop on night one. disastrous stuff IMO. Still, you have one more ME-level guy than you had 10-mins ago, and maybe you can salvage this by having Moxley take out Hangman and getting into that match somehow. Still very WWE here.

Overall grade - B, the show itself is quite good, even if the long term booking was suspect it still delivered quality wrestling, that struck a happy medium between attitude era WWF and old school Championship Wrestling from Florida/Indy vibes that seems like a good product moving forward.

I said it was a good thing that not every Elite member win.

Although I'd rather have preferred it if the Bucks lost and and I wouldn't mind too much if Omega won instead.

Hey, I haven't felt this excited about wrestling since...

Well...

Sometime back in the 90s.

Can't wait for AEW's show to debut this October, and I'm hoping frantically for a Blu-Ray release of Double or Nothing.

I love me some physical media.

1) They are going to have to use there TV hours to bridge the gap between the main eventers and the rest of the roster in other words do the opposite of WCW Omega, Jericho, Bucks, Dustin, Cody in order for this to get traction will need to work programs with the undercard not just amongst themselves.

2) MJF really impressed me tonight he may not be a 5* match guy but he had the crowd hating him and in a good way this goes back to my first observation sumbody from the ME should work a program with him.

3) OK you've got it out of your system enough of the shade throwing at WWE atlest do it classy like Moxley did on the low key with the AA on Omega the throne thing was kinda childish and amateurish.

Not a bad effort but the real test comes now with TV and actually building the brand and the roster that's the key building guys like MJF up to be credible talent on a national scale if we go down the road of verations every week of Cody vs Omega vs Bucks vs Moxly vs Jericho the buzz will die of quickly.

Anyone who wears a scarf indoors should be booed. It is the clothing equivalent of the goatee. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

All in all, it was a very good PPV. Personally, Excalibur was the best part of the broadcast team and I would be ok with him handling the commentary on his own. I don't know how Tommy Dreamer is walking after taking those vicious leg kicks from Orange Cassidy.

I really enjoyed it, a very different feel to the WWE, only with premium production values. Add pyro! Love the pyro.

MJF was a star for me. Great heel work, the way he trash talked kinda had Kevin owens vibes for me. Someone who just puts across being a jerk.

Just finished watching. From someone who absolutely loves every NXT Takeover, this was the PPV of the year so far. I had high expectations and it exceeded them.

Every match was great (excluding the pre-show). Cody vs Dustin, Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks and Jericho vs Omega are 3 of the best matches I've seen so far this year. Cody vs Dustin is my MOTY due to the incredible storytelling. MJF is a goddamn star. Nice surprise cameos Awesome Kong, Bret Hart and Jon Moxley.

I liked the set with the dual entrance tunnels, lighting and pyro. The camerawork and commentary were far from perfect but fine for their first show. Overall about as good a start for AEW as anyone could have hoped for, IMO.

Might do some star ratings later but I'm still too hyped to think straight.

Preshow battle royale- Right man won. Hangman was the only option to win.

Kip Sabian vs Sammy Guevara- Didn't enjoy either guy or the match

SCU vs Strong Hearts- Solid, but unspectacular. Got the job done.

Nyla Rose vs Britt Baker vs Kylie Rae vs Awesome Kong- Got excited for Kong, but she barely did anything. Nyla sucks. Kylie Rae comes across as a knock off of Dakota Kai. Not a fan of Baker either, but she's growing on me.

Best Friends vs Angelico and Jack Evans- Mediocre match

Hikaru Shida, Riho Abe, and Ryo Mizunami vs Aja Kong, Yuki Sakazaki, and Emi Sakura- Fun match

Cody vs Dustin- Great, great match. Dustin bleeding the way he did really enhanced the story

Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks- I wish the Lucha Bros would have won, but still a fun spot fest match

Jericho vs Kenny- Good main event. Intrigued to see what Jericho and Hangman can do together.

Solid show!

Kinda interesting that Omega can go 0-2 if he loses to Mox.

Jericho as the first champ sounds about right, top heel, veteran, recognizable, plus who knows how long he can go for, better give him the title now.

Maybe I'm nitpicking, but there's not much space between the barricade and the ring itself, so tight.

Hopefully there will be more angles as they progress, and more simple singles matches.

I'll give the show 8/10. MOTN for me is Dustin/Cody, something different and emotionally engaging. I kinda knew Dustin would bleed heavily based on the fact he only painted one side of his face, but I didn't expect such a gash. So much better then their throwaway singles match in WWE
