<p>I didn't care for the chair shot either but just like in Lucha Underground the chair was gimmicked so it's no more dangerous than other props used on the show like trash cans, barbed wire or tables... in theory. Obviously something went wrong and Cody got sliced open. Because the chair was gimmicked Cody was in very little danger of a concussion. Darby's back bump got a bigger reaction from me, TBH.</p><p> </p><p>

Lance Storm's theory on what happened based on his own experience with gimmicked chairs in ECW:</p><p> </p><p>

Honestly, the amount of heat this has gotten shows how valuable a commodity a well-used shock-spot is in the current climate. It's a shame about the injury. It's happened before, at the end of the day it's nothing but a cool scar and a story. The way they did it, a concussion wasn't an option. So I don't have a problem with this. I don't like the fact Khan backed down on the spot because of a rather minor(although it looked pretty bad) injury.

This is solved by just buying a better chair with a rolled edge or by putting some rubber on the inside, so it can't cut you. With that said, these spots are not to be used frequently anyway so meh. Of all the things that made me roll my eyes on this show, (The Librarian, The Nakazawa match, The MJF plant) this was rather low down. I don't understand the outrage. Especially after the rather sterling reception Naito got for trying to legit kill Ibushi.

<p>Got a chance to watch Fyter Fest today due to it being my weekend to work I was unable to watch it all live...</p><p> </p><p>

Don't get why people were mad about the pre show, you got a great opening 3 way tag match, the librarian stuff while goofy progressed that story and Allie got a chance to be showcased, and the hardcore match was just goofy fun, the same people that bitch about how cheesy it was are the same people that are on facebook telling AEW to sign Orange Cassidy, makes no sense.</p><p> </p><p>

O and the pre-show was an hour long and featured over 50 minutes of actual WRESTLING, and less than 10 minutes on hype packages and BS, unlike some pre-shows where you get an 8 minute match and 50 minutes of filler bs.</p><p> </p><p>

Kudos for Daniels and Cima, great opening match, I was hoping to see more of this in the Six Man from DoN, but that wasn't what we got, the two vets really made up for it.</p><p> </p><p>

Really not interested in their women's division as of now, I am excited to see them push more JOSHI wrestling as it's a style I have the least amount of knowledge on, hope to see the division start to develop soon.</p><p> </p><p>

MJF is money plain and simple, Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy have fun babyface tag team written all over them, if AEW looks to attract some younger fans those two will be perfect for them. </p><p> </p><p>

Can we just admire how far Hangman has come? I've been watching him since his early days in ROH and man he is going to be a hell of a star for AEW if they take care of him, if it were me, Id move him as far away from the other Elite members as possible and make him his own man.</p><p> </p><p>

First time seeing Darby Allin, the coffin drop on the edge of the ring made me want to shit my own pants from the impact. Also I don't see him as a singles star at all, I'd pair him with Jimmy Havoc and beef up the tag division.</p><p> </p><p>

Not really anything to say about the six man, cool to see Laredo Kid getting some exposure.</p><p> </p><p>

And Janella vs. Moxley was just fun.</p><p> </p><p>

All in all Fyter Fest was a good show nothing special, just a solid show. I would have hoped with it being free in the US that TNT would be smart and actually just put the show on TNT as a teaser for whats to come.</p><p> </p><p>

Also I really don't know why people bitched about the time limit draw between Cody and Darby, it made Darby look good without eating a pin.</p><p> </p><p>

Really refreshing to see time limits again by the way, I think this will benefit AEW starting out because they can time their matches better and keep people from over running their time.</p>

<p>Actually go back and watch again I believe in the Women's match the too announced how much time is remaining.</p><p> </p><p>

I know their was at least 1 other match that it had happened. They would say like 10 minutes has passed or some s--- but I know that match wasn't the only one.</p>

It was a dead giveaway that they were going to a draw.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> As someone said before they announced the 10 minute marks on the previous matches like the women. The Cody match was just the only one that needed various announcements since it actually went to a time limit draw.</p><p> </p><p> I agree that the Librarian shtick is completely dead but the Nakazawa vs Jebailey match was perfect for the DDT style hardcore match it was suppose to be.</p>

Fyter Fest is a joke thing on the concept so I don't know why 2 paragraphs need to be spilled about it.

Just like I don't understand why you needed to spill over 10 paragraphs detailing how much a gloried Saudi Arabia house show produced on BLOOD MONEY which you obviously never wanted to watch sucks. :p At least I actually do want to watch this one, just didn't feel important enough to have to catch it live.

---

Running thoughts on the show now that I've watched it:

- Pre-show 3-way tag match was good. Enjoyed it despite not being a fan of any of the guys in the match (and not knowing anything about Private Party). Nice start.

- Librarian gimmick doesn't seem to be catching on. The crowd admitting that they're a bunch of illiterates end up being more entertaining than this match. The women don't see comfortable working in this environment.

- They need to improve the camera work, missed a few important spots there.

- The next match involves a non-wrestler, and having seen a fair bit of Nakazawa in DDT I find his comedy to be quite hit-or-miss, so not coming into this with much expectations.....and I have to say they exceeded it (which admittedly doesn't take much). I think Jebailey did about as well as an untrained guy could do for this. And the crowd was actually more invested in this than the previous match so at least it moved the needle up. Decent comedy match that did its job well.

- CIMA vs Daniels was the match I was looking most forward to and it felt.....strangely flat. It's like the match never moved into next gear before it ended. Maybe it's the opposite effect from the previous match - I came in with too much expectations, being a fan of both guys. There's nothng specifically wrong with the match that I can point out, just lacks the excitement that I usually get from these 2.

- Them changing Yuka's entrance theme puts me in a bad mood. :(

- Women's match is better-booked than the 4-way last month. Despite losing the pin Nyla Rose actually looks better than she did last month. Still not sold on her as a worker. Ignoring the awful gimmick and performance both women wrestling on the pre-show are better than her. I hope AEW gets a developmental brand and put Nyla there for a while if they're that high on her. Riho getting the win was surprising - I guess they're throwing her a bait to get her to sign after her 5-match deal expires.

- I doubt anyone didn't predict an Adam Page win in the 4-way, considering he's one of the 2 Title contenders, which theoretically should place him as one of the 2 top guys. Not convinced that he's earned that status, though. I had never heard of Jungle Boy before DoN and only first saw MJF at All In, and thus far I like all the other 3 guys in the match more than Page. Havoc and MJF both come off as stronger personalities, and while I don't ever see Jungle Boy as a top face his ring work is way more fun than Page. If this match is to "put over Page", it hasn't worked with me, but as a showcase for the other 3 guys it's not too bad. I hope they're not going to choose Page over Jericho as their inaugural champ. The most entertaining thing I've seen him do is get murdered by Joey Ryan and his Penis Army.

- So far, the pre-show tag match is still the best match. NOT a good sign....

- JR's commentary still drags the show down. Leave the commentary booth to Excalibur, please.

- Apparently, this was Darby's real-life story....and it feels like an e-fed character. Still hasn't made up my mind whether it's a good or bad thing.

- Wow, seems like they're really trying to get Darby over as a big deal. They've got me interested, if nothing else, so the match did its job in putting him over. I want to see more of this guy before I make up my mind about whether I like him. Cody obviously did him a huge favour by giving him a draw, but on the flip side I don't think Cody is the best opponent for an exciting match in terms of style.

- I remembering mentioning in post about Cody's DoN match about how they seemed to be doing some unnecessary un-PG stuff and ending with "thank God they didn't stoop to unprotected chair-shots".....and they went and did it here. I feel trolled. Gimmicked or not, still a dumb thing to do.

- Spotfest is expected when the Bucks and Lucha Bros are involved, just like last month, but this one feel like it's a step down. Not because of the comedy bits. In fact, video game gags are kind of appropriate for anything the Bucks are involved in considering the style they always prefer. But the spot-fest really just feel like more a plain move-fest and way more choreographed. The title match last month had a more natural flow to it, and the no-sells here are more apparent.

- The main event is the only that seem to have an adequate story supporting it. I'm happy for Moxley that he finally gets to do the stuff that he wasn't allowed to do in WWE. I just hope he doesn't like doing this all the time. I can enjoy ultra-violent matches like this in small doses but I don't want to see it as the norm for Moxley matches. This is another match where the ending is obvious, but unlike the 4-way, Moxley actually comes out looking good, unlike Page. Effective main event that probably lifted this show by grade.

Woah, almost forgot there will be an event this Saturday until DDT announced that Shoko Namajima will be there. Quite a busy upcoming week in wrestling.

The weekly TV can't come soon enough. Too easy to lose track of a company without it after getting used to that structure.

I enjoyed the daylights out of it myself. Thought it was a great show, even better than Fyter Fest, (and I very much enjoyed Fyter Fest). I was hoping for another MJF promo, but, as my mother has so often said: you can't have everything... where on Earth would you put it?

IMO MJF is the best heel in the business today.

<p>Avalon vs Kiss - ** 3/4</p><p>

Dr. Britt & Riho vs Shoko & Bea - *** 1/4</p><p>

MJF, Sammy & Spears & Darby, Havoc & Janela - *** 3/4</p><p>

Allie vs Brandi - ** 3/4</p><p>

Dark Order vs Evans & Angelico vs Boy & His Dinosaur - *** 1/2</p><p>

Sabian vs Hangman - *** 3/4</p><p>

SCU vs Lucha Bros - *** 1/2</p><p>

CIMA vs Omega - **** 1/2</p><p>

Young Bucks vs Rhodes Bros - **** 1/4</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Solid show lacking in standout matches. CIMA vs Omega was my favorite. They did a good job of highlighting new and undercard talent like Shoko, Sabian, Jungle Boy and Luchasauras. Only big disappointment was the Women's tag match where Britt's poor positioning made it too sloppy (but to be fair she was concussed).</p>
