The entire division is on display here, including some recurring EWA talents and the return of veteran Joey “The Breeze” Beauchamp. The bell rings and everyone locks up with someone; the first elimination doesn’t take long as high flyer Emerald Angel goes for a moonsault off the top rope but before he can hit it, he is pushed out by Harrison. Boronin is thrown out next by a sneaky Kalashnov, who uses the chaos to creep up behind the Ukrainian grappler and eliminate him but he soon gets a taste of his own medicine when Harrison comes up from behind to eliminate him too. Kalashnov looks shocked, but that quickly fades when he’s attacked by Boronin and the two eliminated men exchange blows outside the ring. With a bit more space in the ring, Cooper and Beauchamp team up to work on Ricci and toss him outside, before a traitorous Beauchamp also eliminates the celebrating Cooper. Beauchamp rolls under the bottom rope to regroup but Matravers chases him, leaving Hernandez, Silver and Harrison in the ring. Silver signals to his occasional tag team partner and fellow NGW co-founder to team up against Hernandez but Harrison shockingly turns on Silver to pick him up in a fireman’s carry position and toss him over the top rope and onto the apron with his PRIDE Driver finisher. As Silver crumbles down to the ringside floor, we are down to the final four: Harrison, Hernandez, Matravers and Beauchamp.</p><p> </p><p> With more room to move, Harrison and Hernandez start a tug of war as they exchange strikes while Matravers ascends to the top rope in order to hit a spectacular Mile High Moonsault to Beauchamp on the outside. The spot provides a breather for the two men in the ring, but Hernandez is the first to recover and pounce as he grabs Harrison for a release suplex that sends him flying over the top rope. Meanwhile, Matravers is back in the ring and Hernandez turns around to get caught with a neckbreaker that lays him out. Beauchamp also slides back into the ring and hits a recovering Matravers with the Breeze Block but his celebration is cut short when Hernandez nails him with his own finisher, the Apparition #14 [spear]. Everyone is down and fans cheer the three competitors back to their feet. Matravers gets back up first and as Hernandez charges him for another Apparition #14, he falls back into a beautiful reversal as he monkey flips Hernandez over the top rope. Meanwhile, Beauchamp had been lying in wait to pull off another Breeze Block but Matravers barely steps aside to let him hit the ropes and bounce back, using his own momentum against him as he launches the veteran up over the rope for the final elimination!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: “Mile High” Adam Matravers</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="At6zmyr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/At6zmyr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="qhQFniW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qhQFniW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qhQFniW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qhQFniW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> NGW Cruiserweight Tag Team titles match</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="PFb9alT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PFb9alT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="M2RTO0E.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/M2RTO0E.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="25UZG0h.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/25UZG0h.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="lWDkCJs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/lWDkCJs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="nQjGF52.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/nQjGF52.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> Double Dutch vs The Foreign Legion</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> First of the night’s title defenses and it features two highly experienced teams with strikingly different wrestling styles; defending champions are exciting high flyers used to being underdogs due to their small stature while the challengers are oldschool mat based technicians many believe should eventually put some more muscle on and move to the heavyweight division. Identical twins Jaqcues and Pierre DuPont focus their offense on the smaller Van Bon, who they take to the mat and isolate to work on with submissions until the crafty underdog manages to escape and roll to his corner for the hot tag. Frank Ven Heer comes in all fire and surprises the challengers, knocking Jaqcues off the apron and flipping Pierre towards his own corner, before Van Bon joins him to execute their Orange Wave tag finisher and pin the Frenchman to retain.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: Double Dutch, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong> Double Dutch make defence number 2 of their NGW Cruiserweight Tag Team titles</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="pyf9Pt4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pyf9Pt4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="MD3svD5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/MD3svD5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="MD3svD5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/MD3svD5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> NGW Heavyweight Tag Team titles match</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="YuuZy7b.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YuuZy7b.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="aqKXVd4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aqKXVd4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="25UZG0h.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/25UZG0h.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="PybIMT9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PybIMT9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="nYdtjiY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/nYdtjiY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><strong>w</strong><img alt="wGTzFkZ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wGTzFkZ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> The Ivanoff Brothers vs The Johanssons (with Signe Lytjohan)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Between the Johanssons, Ivanoffs and Nigerian Hit Squad, the NGW Heavyweight Tag Team title scene is starting to be all about big bad brawlers and this match is no different. Igor and Ivan are eager to take the match outside the ring and introduce a certain street fighting element, but the Johanssons seem surprisingly comfortable there too, to the point where the announcers bring up how great it would be to see these two teams go at it in a no holds barred, anything goes hardcore match. For now, the Johanssons are content to use this element of surprise to fight back against their challengers and bring the match back into the ring, with a little assist from their manager who kicks Igor in the family jewels just out of the referee’s view, before Bam Bam rolls him into the ring for Hercules to grab in a bear hug. Trapped in the Hercules Lift and already in major pain from Signe’s low blow, Igor struggles for a bit but eventually taps out just before Ivan can charge in to break up the hold.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: The Johanssons, by submission after interference from Signe Lythjohan</strong></p><p><strong> The Johanssons make defence number 1 of their NGW Heavyweight Tag Team titles</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="IqChfad.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IqChfad.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Women’s Battle Royal</span></strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="timXQf2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/timXQf2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UNPBv54.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UNPBv54.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qwZB6cD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qwZB6cD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="i3AqEI6.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/i3AqEI6.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NVsHmIw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NVsHmIw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="A0XDREq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/A0XDREq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="MGCPelQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/MGCPelQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="sbFUnpv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sbFUnpv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="KgdqMk2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KgdqMk2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="POESOXu.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/POESOXu.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> Participants: Anna Twirl, Darkness Cat, Geena the Warrior Princess, Jeri Behr, Joanne Rodriguez,</strong></p><p><strong> Megumi Nakajima, Melanie Flyman, Viper McKenna, Viv Jacobs, Zofia Jankovic</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Second Battle Royal for tonight and this one features a lot more new faces compared to the opener. Most are known EWA wrestlers who have appeared at least once in an NGW, with the exception of Darkness Cat who, as the announcing team explains, is replacing Paula Edwards; Cat was the EWA Women’s champion but just last night, Edwards beat her for the gold at EWA’s monthly show, making her ineligible to compete tonight. As the newcomer, Darkness Cat has everyone’s attention at first and her graceful, agile style proves she’s more than your average wrestler in a Catwoman-inspired outfit. It also proves to be her downfall though, as its high risk factor coupled with her inexperience lead to her being the first woman to be thrown over the top rope. Anna Twirl follows soon after, seemingly having drawn the ire of both McKenna and Jankovic who work together to take her out. Flyman sees her opportunity and with McKenna lowering the ropes for her, she grabs Jankovic in a headscissor rana to toss her outside for the elimination, before she herself is eliminated by Geena who kicks her in the head to knock her off the apron.</p><p> </p><p> Viper McKenna left the ring to regroup at ringside but Behr and Nakajima gave her no quarter as they followed suit and used their teaming experience to overwhelm her. Meanwhile, inside the ring, Rodriguez got hit with a double chokeslam from Geena and Jacobs, who then proceeded to bash each other with strikes. Jacobs whipped Geena to the ropes and while she bounced back to duck under the subsequent lariat, she kept going and hit a crossbody on Behr and Nakajima who had just made their way back between the ropes; Nakajima was eliminated, but Behr somehow held on to the ropes and in a spectacular display of agility, used her gymnastics background to skin the cat and return to the ring. She locked up with a recovered Rodriguez while Geena and Jacobs continued to blast each other with strikes. McKenna also made her way back onto the apron and caught Jacobs from behind in an attempt to pull her out, but the Hall of Famer was just too big for that; instead, she turned the tables to pull McKenna into the ring then, while maintaining control of the neck, reverse the momentum and toss her back out over the top rope for a dominant elimination. It was a big moment and Jacobs savoured it, but Geena was close behind and used this moment of weakness to get Jacobs on the ropes. The Texan held on for dear life and it took both a double stomp from Behr off the top rope and some assistance from Rodriguez to eliminate Jacobs, bringing the match down to three women.</p><p> </p><p> Behr seemed like the easiest victim given the situation, both due to her size but also stamina as her style does tend to burn her up faster than other competitors. Rodriguez was hellbent on taking out an exhausted Geena though and turned her attention towards her. It didn’t turn out well for her, because Geena had some more fight left in her. Adjusting on the fly, Rodriguez tried to eliminate Behr instead but the agile Swede ducked below the attack and popped back up to send Rodriguez flying over the top rope and eliminate one of the favorites to win the whole thing. The remainder of the match was a test of will, who wanted it more and had something left in them. Things looked like they could swing either way, but the sheer physicality of Geena was enough to eventually put her in control and bring about the final elimination to punch her ticket for a title rematch.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Geena the Warrior Princess</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Struggling to catch her breath and with emotions running wild, Geena the Warrior Princess calls for a microphone but before she can talk, the lights go out and the titantron comes alive </p><div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo"><div><iframe width="200" height="113" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/BURM7l6_pvg?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="The Sisters of Mercy - More (Extended version)"></iframe></div></div><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="yNQekBM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yNQekBM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Fusae Etsuko’s theme song plays and after a while, the Gothic Grappler herself appears inside the ring as the lights come back on. With a slap, she tosses the mic away from Geena’s hand and slides into position for the Lullaby, but Geena somehow escapes the hold, still crawling on the mat after a gruelling battle. Etsuko throws herself to the ropes and bounces back with a head full of steam for the Darkness Falls knee, but Geena has already managed to roll out of the ring so the NGW Women’s champion comes to a halt. Geena stumbles backstage, her eyes fixed on the champion who stands tall inside the ring and hoists the title belt up high in the air.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="lfOxD6w.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/lfOxD6w.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">King of the Ring 20 Man Starmageddon Battle Royal match</span></strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="SoeMY3z.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SoeMY3z.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="QaF7Dck.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QaF7Dck.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="12XzW2n.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/12XzW2n.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="tyHLiXg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tyHLiXg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> Starting Four: Edward Cornell, Beast Bantom, Giovanni Bruno, Adam Martinez</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> The opening quartet has it all; an established star in Cornell, a ripped powerhouse in Bantom, a returning wrestler in Bruno and a new face in “the Barcelona Bull” Adam Martinez. The start is somewhat slow and as the most inexperienced one, Martinez takes a lot of offense but uses that to showcase the tenacity that earned him his nickname until Bantom powerbombs him to the turnbuckles and pins him for the elimination.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="hihl2D9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hihl2D9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Ripper LeStat comes out as replacement and sporting a vampiresque outfit for the occasion that really has Cornell fuming with rage. Bruno grabs him from behind for a roll up but Cornell kicks out and ends up taking out his anger on the cowardly Italian, eliminating him after a Black Thunder Bomb while Bantom is outside the ring to trade weapon shots with LeStat.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="IDTFoKl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IDTFoKl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Landon Mallory rushes out next and joins Bantom to beat down LeStat. The boost is just what Bantom needed as the first signs of wear and tear begin to show. Taking a page out of his compatriot Bruno’s book, Gandalfini grabs Mallory from behind and grabs his tights for that extra leverage in the roll up, taking him out of the match in a shock elimination before Bantom can realize what happened.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="TgQORsF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TgQORsF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Fans explode in cheers as out comes “the Moscow Mauler” himself to join the fray! Gandalfini retreats and Cornell is down on the corner, leaving Bantom to turn around and face the Russian giant, daring him to enter the ring, a nod to his several mentions about how he enjoys the challenge of facing wrestlers larger than himself. Tension builds as Khoklov gets in the ring, then gets nose to nose with Bantom in an intense staredown… then headbutts him out of nowhere and picks him up for a devastating Russian Legend Powerbomb, followed by a pin and just like that, Bantom is out of the match!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="AhotWa7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AhotWa7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Petter Eriksson comes down to the ring next, having just missed a chance to be in the ring with an ally in Bantom. Khoklov invites the burly Norwegian in and the two of them trade blows back and forth. Eriksson is reeling and for whatever reason, Gandalfini reads the situation as a chance to get back in the match. For his initiative, he gets hit with a decapitating Moscow Lariat and Khoklov pins him for another elimination, two in a row and in dominant fashion for the three time former champion who looks to be out for blood tonight.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="bQOWta0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bQOWta0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Somewhat recovered, Cornell takes the easy option of locking horns with Eriksson while Khoklov is focused on the new person in the match, a man announced as Mighty Mo. The big man has the looks of a champion in the making and once inside the ring, he also showcases freakish athleticism for a man his size when he gives Khlokov a run for his money as he dances around to disorient the giant and create openings for himself. It’s a good start, but one Khoklov ends abruptly when Mo tries to shoot himself off the ropes with a crossbody. Marat catches him mid-flight and slams him to the mat, staying on top for the three count to knock him out of the match.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="SbYOV10.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SbYOV10.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Konrad Mäkinen is the next contestant and he wisely avoids getting in the ring, instead opting to join Cornell and Eriksson who are still brawling outside the ring. Left without an opponent, Khlokov leaves the ring and seeing him close in, Cornell and Mäkinen retreat back inside the ropes. A groggy Eriksson is not so lucky and Khoklov whips him to the side of the ring before following up with a charge as he throws his full weight onto him with an avalanche. Eriksson looks like he was hit by a train and that’s not an exaggeration come to think of it. Marat picks him up like a rag doll and throws him back into the ring, where Mäkinen grabs a leg to apply the Swedish Grapevine. Finally having had enough, Eriksson taps out.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="eAP3R7j.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/eAP3R7j.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Aleksander Knyazev is out next and he slides into the ring to join Cornell and Mäkinen in trying to take the big man down. Through hit-and-run tactics coupled with Cornell’s strikes looking to chop down the giant, Knyazev and Mäkinen shoot for a leg each. It takes a spear from Cornell on top of that to bring Khlokov down but it happens and the ring shakes as a result. Marat rolls to the outside in order to avoid a pinning predicament and an opportunistic Cornell surprises the unaware Knyazev when he catches him just as he gets back on his feet with a Black Thunder Bomb for the elimination.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="bGfQcLk.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bGfQcLk.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> “The Bratva Bruiser” Dovydas Vidmar joins the fray and immediately proceeds to smash the trademark vodka bottle he carries to the ring with him on the head of Cornell. Too bad he never paid much attention to the rules of the match though, because while there are no countouts, disqualifications are still a valid way of elimination and thus Vidmar just managed to eliminate himself!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="cTU1ZCQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cTU1ZCQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Mäkinen begins to apply the Swedish Grapevine on the fallen Cornell but the next competitor is a Real Deal member, former MMA fighter Roy Edison. Rushing to the ring for the save, Edison breaks up the hold and with both Khoklov and Cornell sidelined, he and Mäkinen have the space to do some actual wrestling, hold for hold. It doesn’t take long for the judo expert to find his way towards controlling one of Mäkinen’s arms and in a split second, the armbar is applied for the tap, eliminating the Swedish competitor.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="DTAxGxv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DTAxGxv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Apparently there’s no shortage of really big men in the locker room as NGW alumni Menace comes to the ring next, getting a good reaction from the fans while at it. For older fans who may remember him as little more than a clumsy powerhouse, Menace shows he’s improved by leaps and bounds as he takes on Edison and throws him to the outside, where he proceeds to maul him like a wild animal until they stumble onto the recovering Klokov or, as Fink Finkelton puts it on commentary “they’ve woken the sleeping giant”. After tossing Edison aside to recover next to Cornell, Khoklov locks horns with Menace and the two titans trade blows until they bring it back inside the ropes where Menace meets his end after a Moscow Lariat.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="WUS40Jt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/WUS40Jt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> British prospect Wade Orson is number 16 and he gets in the ring just as Cornell and Hossam attack Khoklov from behind. Once again leaving the ring to compose himself, Khoklov leaves Orson, Cornell and Edison to fight it out. In since the beginning, Cornell can barely keep fighting so it’s up to Edison to play ball and protect his Real Deal leader. Orson is bigger and fresher though, which gives him the advantage over Edison and eventually sees the former MMA star pinned after a Bounce Back.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="LFcPDbz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LFcPDbz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Next up is “The Louisiana Pit Bull” Robert Howard, who starts his part of the match brawling with Orson. For several minutes, things feel like a singles match as two no-nonesense competitors wrestle back and forth. Orson takes a spinebuster for a two count, then kips up but can only manage a guillotine choke at best that simply enrages Howard. In a spectacular show of brute strength and ring experience, Howard gets up and charges the corner ring post while still in the hold, essentially driving Orson spine first into the steel to free himself and fall on top of the young Brit for the pin.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="04N0aQ1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/04N0aQ1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Howard shifts his attention towards the beat up Cornell but Wael Hossam takes to the ring for the save, pulling the Louisiana Pit Bull to the mat for a stretch. Essentially unbeatable on the ground, Hossam gets to work but as painful as his submissions are, they do take time to bear fruit; it provides a good breather for Cornell, but Khoklov also benefits and eventually returns to the match. Hossam lets go of Howard and attempts to take down the Russian giant, but as soon as he shoots for the Moscow Mauler’s legs, Khoklov picks him up and brings him down with a Russian Legend Powerbomb for the pin and elimination.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Dlqpgvn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Dlqpgvn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> Entrant number 19 is “the Rock and Roller” Sebastian Koller, meaning Frye’s at #20. Not a person to back down from a fight though, Howard stays in the ring and defiantly exchanges blows with Khlokov as Koller makes his way to the ring. The Hamburg native is interrupted by a revitalised Cornell though and they brawl outside the ring all the way to the announcers’ table. Koller is in control and Cornell looks spent, for a second it looks like Koller is about to go for the Hamburg Rock City but before he can complete the move to drive Cornell through the table, back in the ring Khoklov has Howard up in a military press and simply tosses him to everyone on the outside for a huge moment! Pressing his advantage instead of taking a moment to brag, the giant leaves the ring and drags everyone’s remains back into the ring, before he too returns to eliminate Robert Howard.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="KRd8pBF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KRd8pBF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> A dramatic final entrance in Nelson Frye who missed the chance to assist his friend and teammate but also won’t have to fight him either. Frye gets in the ring and begins trading blows with Khoklov while fans get a “Captain Hero” chant going, a reference to Stig Svensson’s battles against Khoklov and Frye now leading the League of Heroes after Svensson passed the torch to him. Meanwhile, Koller recovers and joins the fray, momentarily teaming with Frye to take down the big man. Slowly but surely, Marat loses ground to his two fresh opponents but an unlikely (and probably unwilling) save is made when Cornell grabs Koller from behind, spins him around and hits him with a desperate Black Thunder Bomb for a shocking elimination!</p><p> </p><p> Down to three men now and with the loss of Koller, the tide is turning against Frye; blow after blow, he is losing ground and it doesn’t look like he will be able to grab a hold of Khoklov’s arm for his finisher, let alone take him to the mat for it to be properly applied. Cornell realizes that’s what in store for him too if Frye is eliminated so he joins his fellow Englishman in an attempt to eliminate the giant. Khoklov gets thrown to the ropes but bounces back almost foaming at the mouth as he hits both his opponents with a double version of the Moscow Lariat to knock them down! As an exclamation point, Khoklov lifts up Cornell and hits him with the Russian Legend Powerbomb, slamming him on top of Frye before he drops down to eliminate him and then Cornell to win the match and become the new King of the Ring!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> 2013 King of the Ring Winner</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="TgQORsF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TgQORsF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> “The Moscow Mauler” Marat Khoklov</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="wuo51A1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wuo51A1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p> Champagne Lover comes out with the NGW Heavyweight title on his shoulder and a mic in hand. This match however has been way more than six months in the making. Even after the introduction of weight categories, Lister has been the target of much criticism as an “almost man”, a “tag specialist” and “permanent sidekick” since he’s a multiple tag team champion but has yet to hold any kind of singles gold. This here is his chance to prove he can fly solo. To headline NGW’s second biggest show of the year and take the Cruiserweight title for a man who more or less has always been self-centered. It’s a clash of former allies but also a clash of worlds and different trajectories to the top.</p><p> </p><p> The start is slow, as expected, letting fans soak in the moment and providing announcers with the time needed to recap everything. Lister raises a hand to request a test of skill and Akuma obliges as gets in the greco-roman knuckle lock. Things look even until Lister gains control but before he can transition to a side headlock, Akuma kicks him in the gut to break it up and hits the ropes to slingshot himself back, using his own body as a weapon. The champion laces a few moves together but before he can build up much momentum, Lister manages to pull him to the mat so he can apply a submission hold. Unusual tactics from the otherwise high flying veteran, but Lister is well aware that a fast paced, high flying match favors his opponent more than him so he tries to pace himself and ground Akuma as much as he can. Sliding between holds, Lister keeps the pressure on Akuma who slowly manages to get back on his feet when the challenger turns a headlock into the Kanobi Kutter out of nowhere! It’s only a two count though, Akuma gets a shoulder up and the match continues.</p><p> </p><p> Realizing he needs to do better, Lister maintains control of the smaller Akuma and proceeds to wear him down with close range strikes. Another attempt at a Kanobi Kutter comes up empty though and Akuma falls down on his back to scoop up Lister into a roll up, but the challenger kicks out at two. With space to move, Akuma picks up the pace and tries to come at Lister from all angles. Few men can pull off this style like Akuma can and it helps him get some offense going, leading to an Akuma Cradle that somehow Lister kicks out of!</p><p> </p><p> Akuma looks shocked and Matravers fires up the crowd to cheer for Lister, who gets back on his feet only to get hit with the Akuma Cradle Shock! One… Two… Lister kicks out again and Akuma can’t believe it! What will it take to put this man down, the announcers ask and Akuma looks like he has an answer as he takes Lister to a corner. Slowly ascending to the top turnbuckle and pulling Lister up with him, it looks like Akuma is about to hit a crazier version of his finisher but his ego gets the best of him when, instead of going for it, he pauses to point at Matravers on the sidelines. The two men have a verbal back and forth but that’s all Lister needs to catch his breath and escape his predicament; catching a distracted Akuma, he brings them both flying off the top with an insane version of the Kanobi Kutter! The impact is such for both wrestlers, Lister crawls and eventually settles for just rolling to put a hand on top of the devastated Akuma. One… two...three!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Christopher Lister, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong> Christopher Lister wins the NGW Cruiserweight title</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Show Rating:</span></strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p>

With all of them entering pretty early in the match and subsequently getting eliminated long before the finish, they take turns here to vent their frustration on their challengers, a hodgepodge team of rookie heavyweights. To their credit, the challengers do manage to hold their ground and make the match quite even, but the real shock comes in the finish, where Gandalfini and Mallory are down while LeStat is brawling at ringside with Bantom and McKenna. Big men Eriksson and Menace lock up in the middle of the ring and a huge headbutt from Menace has the Norwegian Hall of Famer reeling, before Menace displays his freakish strength by delivering his Ultimate Rejection finisher [Last Ride elevated powerbomb] for the pin.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: Paolo Gandalfini, Menace & Ripper LeStat, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong> Paolo Gandalfini, Menace and Ripper LeStat win the NGW Open Collective titles</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="mwL0z0W.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/mwL0z0W.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="yNQekBM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yNQekBM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qwZB6cD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qwZB6cD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> A pre-taped vigniette airs next, recapping the feud between Fusae Etsuko and Geena the Warrior Princess, emphasizing on the events that transpired at Starmageddon and hyping up their upcoming clash for the NGW Women's title.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="OMqWx1U.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OMqWx1U.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="TgQORsF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TgQORsF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="bGfQcLk.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bGfQcLk.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="YuuZy7b.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YuuZy7b.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="aqKXVd4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aqKXVd4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> The Czars</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="25UZG0h.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/25UZG0h.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="04N0aQ1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/04N0aQ1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="cTU1ZCQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cTU1ZCQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="yWLqNGq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yWLqNGq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UPg1dYS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UPg1dYS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> The Real Deal</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Stable warfare is next and each team enter the fight with their own issues to overcome. On the other hand, the Real Deal have been teetering on the edge of implosion and enter this fight without Edward Cornell around to lead them. Hossam and Edison are the only ones to perform some actual wrestling moves in his match, the rest of the competitors happy to trade blows back and forth between them and Igor Ivanoff getting a big reaction when he makes a comeback with a knee/lariat combo dubbed "the hammer and sickle" by the announcers. With NGW co-founders next to his side, Commissioner Sebastian Krause opens the show by announcing the night's main event and what's at stake.

Krause: "It'll be Edward Cornell... versus Nelson Frye... versus Sebastian Koller... versus Wade Orson, in a Fatal Four Way match! The match will end via pinfall or submission only... and whoever scores that pinfall or submission... will be granted a match of their choice... against any opponent... under any stipulation... with whatever prize they want on the line!"

The Czars (with Marat Khoklov)

The Outcasts (with Viper McKenna)

Two teams with pretty opposite trajectories clash in the opening match as the Outcasts are fresh from losing the NGW Open Collective titles while the Czars managed to beat the Real Deal clean last week. The Ivanoffs' teamwork lets them control most of the match, though their opponents appear really motivated and somewhat more used to three on three stipulations. It takes some help from Khoklov at ringside, who catches Eriksson with a Moscow Lariat while the Ivanoff brothers are arguing with the referee, allowing Vidmar to hit the Bratva Bomb for the pin.

Winners: The Czars, by pinfall after Marat Khoklov interfered

"The Gothic Grappler" Fusae Etsuko and "The Black Widow" Zofia Jankovic are standing in a dimly lit scenery as they address the camera.

Jankovic: "Tonight, we will get in the ring to wrestle against our personal enemies... Geena the Warrior Princess and Anna Twirl... Tonight, I get even with Anna [Twirl] for what she did last week when she stuck her nose where it didn't belong..."

Etsuko: "Geena... you stole my title while I was off injured... but I got it back! At Starmageddon, you won the Battle Royal for a chance to take it from me one more time... but tell me this one thing... every time we've clashed in that ring, no, every time I've fought anyone in that ring, I've never lost... do you know what it's called when you keep doing the same thing and expect the results to be different?"

The League of Heroes (Christopher Lister, Adam Matravers & Emerald Angel)

Hardcore Hernandez & Double Dutch

More trios action up next and this time it's high flying Cruiserweights who take center stage as the League's competitors square off against Hernandez and the tag champs. For all their undeniable skill and experience, Hernandez and Double Dutch just can't seem to agree on how to approach this match as the Canadian is hellbent on driving a wedge between Lister and Matravers in order to pin either man while the champions seem to focus on the much less experienced Emerald Angel. This discord ultimately ends up costing them, especially since Lister and Matravers seem to remain friendly and function pretty well through the match and during an internal team argument, Emerald Angel sneaks up on Van Bon for a fast roll up that gets him the win.

Winners: The League of Heroes, by pinfall with a fast roll up

Standing in front of the powerhouse NGW Heavyweight Tag Team champions, Signe Lytjohan has a message to deliver before the next match.

Lytjohan: "My clients need people to beat... and I need to get paid... both of which can only happen if they defend their titles at Terror Rising against someone. That someone... will be whoever wins this next match... because we've decided to offer a title shot to the winners!"

Nigerian Hit Squad vs Wael Hossam & Roy Edison

The Real Deal have been struggling with internal tensions for quite some time and following last week's loss to the Czars, the quartet is now split in teams of two to fight it out in an interesting contrast of the submission specialists against the big nasty brawlers. To make matters worse, Lytjohan's announcement earlier means this is essentially a #1 contender match for the NGW Heavyweight Tag Team titles so there's more than just pride on the line. The fight itself is excellent and given a few more minutes, could end up stealing the show but for now it ends with Rashid Lawal pinning Hossam after a Gutbuster.

Winners: Nigerian Hit Squad, by pinfall

"The Gothic Grappler" Fusae Etsuko & "The Black Widow" Zofia Jankovic vs Geena the Warrior Princess & "The Steppe Cowgirl" Anna Twirl

Twirl and Jankovic start the match, with the Belarussian in control thanks to a series of vicious kicks. Twirl ends up near her opponents' corner and Etsuko gets the tag to take her down and work her over with submission holds. Once she's had her fun, instead of looking to end the match, Etsuko lets Twirl go and shoves her towards her teams' corner, demanding she tags Geena in. The Warrior Princess is all to happy to oblige and the two rivals get in each others' face for a tense moment before they start trading slaps that soon become chops until Geena puts the brakes with a huge uranage! All pumped up, Geena mounts her fallen opponent and unloads with frantic strikes, before retreating and calling her to get back up on her feet. Etsuko does, but waves a finger to singal she's not going to do this here, now, like this. Instead, she retreats to tag in Jankovic to a mixed reaction of cheers and boos and the announcers wonder if we're seeing signs of weakness in the champion for the first time ever. Disappointed, Geena tags her partner too back in and Twirl comes in only to walk straight into a K.O. Head Kick.

Winners: Fusae Etsuko & Zofia Jankovic, by pinfall

Edward Cornell vs Wade Orson vs Nelson Frye (with Robert Howard) vs Sebastian Koller (with Viper McKenna)

All four men have an excellent track record so of course this match delivers some great in-ring action on top of the drama of what's at stake for whoever wins. Fan support is split between the three Englishmen, enraging the self-absorbed Koller though some of the more fierce Midlanders aren't above booing London's Nelson Frye as well. Every wrestler has a chance to shine and pull off an exciting sequence and the match is well paced, given how everyone has to keep track of everyone. This also leads to a lot of false finishes, whether they're kick outs or a third person breaking up the pin, but the big finish sees Frye and Orson trading blows on the apron when Cornell comes from the outside to grab them both for a double powerbomb. Back in the ring, Koller is lying in wait to pick up the pieces as Cornell climbs back in but the Englishman fights out of the Hamburg Rock City set-up headlock to hit Koller with his own Black Lightning Bomb and score the pin.

Winner: Edward Cornell, by pinfall

Exhausted but glad, Cornell celebrates his win when Champagne Lover's music hits the speakers and the NGW Heavyweight champion walks out with a mic in hand.

Lover: "Well well... Let me guess what you w..."

Cornell: "You heard me last week! Me and you, at Terror Rising... for the title!"

John Silver vs Hardcore Hernandez vs Sergei Kalashnov

Three way high flying action to kick off the show in a match full of fast paced combat and spectacular moves but of not much siginificance in terms of story. True to his moniker, Hardcore Hernandez hit a couple of borderline suicidal dives but his high risk offense didn't pay off in the end as he ended up going through a table, clearing the way for Silver to hit his Silversault finisher on Kalashnov for the victory.

Winner: John Silver, by pinfall

Backstage, Sebastian Koller and Viper McKenna are in the middle of a discussion when the Czars surround them. It's not an ambush though; the Russian group is simply there to break the news to the power couple of the Outcasts.

Igor: "Czars and Outcasts had many battles in ring, for tag titles and six man titles."

Ivan: "But neither have match for Terror Rising."

Vidmar: "So we have... discussion with management. At Pay Per View is going to be us four against Koller... Orson... Mallory...and Bantom! Is going to be good night... for street fight!"

Rodriguez: "Last week, Jeri Behr had some strong words to say about me... said I came out of nowhere to take her spot... Well Jeri, I have some news for you... I have won the Female Wrestler of the Year award and you haven't... I have wrestled around the world for the biggest promotions on the planet and you haven't... For years, I was waiting for another opportunity and NGW gave it to me... so now at Terror Rising, I will show you just why I'm considered a proper challenger for the Women's title... and you're not."

"Golden Delicious" Melanie Flyman vs Megumi Nakajima (with Jeri Behr)

In the aftermath of J-Ro's promo and match announcement, Behr leads her Girl Power teammate to the ring for the next match against the veteran high flyer from Australia, Melanie Flyman. Given her whole ninja-based moveset, Flyman's style meshes beautifully with the graceful precision strikes and slick grappling of Nakajima to result in a beautiful match that Flyman ends up winning via pinfall after she hits Nakajima with the Ninjitsu Strike.

Winner: Melanie Flyman, by pinfall

"Mile High" Adam Matravers vs Henrik Van Bon (with Frank Van Heer)

Essentially the flipside of last week's Cruiserweight match where current champion Christopher Lister faced Van Heer with Van Bon on his corner, the title challenger is up in action here against Van Bon with his Double Dutch partner on the sidelines. Like his teammate before him, Van Bon has a chance to show what he can do as a singles competitor and as it turns out he's a pretty competent one too, however Matravers manages to use his slight size and weight advantage to maneuver his opponent in place for the Mile High Moonsault to pick up the win.

Winner: Adam Matravers, by pinfall

Lister: "It's a pleasure and an honor to be wrestling Adam Matravers for the NGW Cruiserweight title... but that doesn't mean I'll pull any punches once we're in the ring... May the best man win."

Edward Cornell & Wael Hossam vs The Gentleman and the Pitbull

Wrapping up the go-home show before Terror Rising is a big tag match between the challenger for the NGW Heavyweight title in Cornell and Wossam on one side and the duo of Frye and Howard on the other. Both teams pack a potent combination of power, tenacity, technical skill and charisma so the match is every bit as good as the setup promises. Momentum swings back and forth as the two teams trade blows and holds with both looking like they could be winning the contest, but right around the twenty minute mark of this epic confrontation...

wuo51A1.jpg

...Champagne Lover decides to come out and take a close ringside look at his scheduled opponent. Although he doesn't get involved in the match in any way, his presence is enough to enrage Cornell, who gets in the champion's face, leaving Hossam with no one to tag in as Frye exploits this opportunity drag him back into the center of the ring and to slap on the Royal Armbar for the tap.

Winners: The Gentleman and the Pitbull, by submission after Champagne Lover distracted Cornell

Once the bell rings, Cornell realizes what just happened and returns to the ring in order to check up on Hossam as Champagne Lover grabs a microphone from the timekeeper's table.

Lover: "You see, little Eddie... it's things like these that keep you from grabbing that brass ring... What you lack is the mindset of a champion... and that's why at Terror Rising you will do your best... but I'm going to retain my title, because I'm even better than your best!"

After Behr voiced her frustrations and J-Ro responded, they two met in the ring looking to prove which one’s the better wrestler and earn their future opportunities. Behr was hot off the gates and seized the initiative, using her athleticism to overwhelm her opponent and build up to a dropkick of amazing hang time that sent J-Ro bouncing off the ropes and into a rolling rana pin for a two count. Not to be outdone, Rodriguez showcased her own aerial skills in return, polished at the AAA Cat’s Lair dojo in Seattle and perfected all across Japan. The latter also left her with a vast array of hard strikes and she had a chance to use those too as she pummeled a kneeling Behr on the chest before topping it off with a decapitating roundhouse kick to her head, yet somehow Behr kicked out of that. Fans were on the edge of their seats by that point and the match felt like it could end at any moment, in favor of either competitor but it was Rodriguez who managed to connect with her J-Rocker finisher first and score the fall.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Joanne Rodriguez, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="pyf9Pt4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pyf9Pt4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="CaTwuAY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/CaTwuAY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> NGW Cruiserweight title match</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="h8WdOUv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/h8WdOUv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="25UZG0h.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/25UZG0h.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="BJ5XbNO.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BJ5XbNO.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> Christopher Lister © vs “Mile High” Adam Matravers</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Long time friends, partners and even tag team champions together, Lister and Matravers were up against each other in this match with the NGW Cruiserweight title on the line, yet that didn’t stop them from shaking hands before the match, causing the fans to cheer at this display of sportsmanship. Both knowing each other inside out, the match may have been off to a fast paced start but every move was either dodged or reversed, leading to a stand off and a smile from the perpetually laid back Matravers. Lister went for the Kanobi Kutter but Matravers shoved him away before he could hit it and thus the real match began, with the two competitors throwing everything they had on each other. Matravers made several attempts to hit the Mile High Moonsault but Lister had done his homework and was quick to interrupt. After a long back and forth exchange, Lister was down and it finally looked like Matravers would be able to execute his finisher, but Lister had it scouted and got the knees up, before himself kipping up to catch the staggering challenger with a Kanobi Kutter for the win.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Christopher Lister, by pinfall</strong></p><p><strong> Christopher Lister makes defence number 1 of his NGW Cruiserweight title</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="h8WdOUv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/h8WdOUv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="BJ5XbNO.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BJ5XbNO.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="KRd8pBF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KRd8pBF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="LFcPDbz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LFcPDbz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Regardless of outcome, Lister and Matravers hugged it out after the match, an emotional moment as Nelson Frye and Robert Howard joined them to congratulate both and raise their arms in the air for fans to cheer. The champ looked confident as ever, whereas Cornell looked focused and determined. This was his make or break moment, after all. His chance to prove he’s at least as good as his highly acclaimed cousin, Tommy. Stockier and stronger than his opponent, Cornell put that advantage to good use as he saught to manhandle the champion around but Lover’s unpredictable hybrid style allowed him to escape again and again, taunting Cornell in an attempt to get under his skin and infuriate him. Cornell fell for it and walked right into a Lover Stunner, but in his overconfidence, Champagne Lover didn’t hook the leg and the challenger kicked out before the count of three.</p><p> </p><p> Shooting for the ropes, Lover attempted to create some momentum for his lucha libre inspired aerial offense and though his moves had Cornell reeling, the Englishman shut him down with a huge spinebuster takedown. Cornell didn’t stop there however, showing great ring IQ as he kept Lover to the mat and worked him over with submissions, thus eliminating his mobile offense as well as doing some lasting damage even if he couldn’t get him to submit. Equally surprising was Champagne Lover’s response though, since he too packs a seriously underrated mat game and was able to turn the tables, coming on top before breaking things up with a close range knee to the head of Cornell. Both men collapsed on the mat for a breather and the referee began counting, but both were up by the time he reached the count of eight.</p><p> </p><p> Cornell created some separation through knife edged chops to the chest of his opponent, before executing an impressive cutter off the second rope, showcasing impressive agility for a Light Heavyweight such as himself but only getting a two count for his effort. Frustrated, he went for the Black Lightning Bomb but somehow Lover reversed that into a rana that sent big man Cornell onto the ref. Making the best of a distracted official, Cornell rushed out of the ring to grab the title belt off the timekeeper’s table, smashing Lover in the face with it and tossing it away before falling on top for the cover, finally getting a three count as fans booed him for his methods.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Edward Cornell, by pinfall after using a foreign object</strong></p><p><strong> Edward Cornell wins the NGW Heavyweight title</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="At6zmyr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/At6zmyr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="SoeMY3z.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SoeMY3z.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> With fans still booing, Cornell demanded he had his hand raised and the title handed to him, before grabbing a mic to speak his mind.</p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46461" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Cornell: <strong>“Shut up, all of you… I have proven, beyond shadow of a doubt, that I’m the best wrestler on this damn roster… I am the Alpha Male of NGW… and every bit as good as ‘Rough Justice’ now that I hold the same title he held before me!”</strong></div></blockquote><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="hq0wF4D.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hq0wF4D.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> NGW Womens’ title match</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="yNQekBM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yNQekBM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="25UZG0h.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/25UZG0h.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qwZB6cD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qwZB6cD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> “The Gothic Grappler” Fusae Etsuko © vs Geena the Warrior Princess</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Etsuko and Geena had a monumental task trying to outdo the men before them but somehow they managed to do just that, their long-standing rivalry having led up to this clash where both ladies sought a decisive win over each other. Though the match started off pretty slow, once Etsuko missed with her Darkness Falls finisher, Geena picked up the pace with a newfound level of intensity and aggression. After slamming Etsuko around, she tossed the champion out of the ring and kept on coming as she flew over the top rope with a suicidal Amazon Plunge to the outside that sent the fans into a frenzy. Champion and challenger slugged it out at ringside and almost got counted out before Geena realized what was happening and barely rolled back into the ring in time to break the count. Etsuko followed and Geena hit her with a charging headbutt, showing blatant disregard for her own well-being in her pursuit of victory but only managing a two count as Etsuko got a shoulder up before the referee’s count of three.</p><p> </p><p> Geena was shocked at the fighting spirit on display from the defending champion and looking to hit an even bigger move got careless, allowing Etsuko to dodge and take control of the match. Using every move on her arsenal, Etsuko fought back to regain all the lost ground, inch by bloody inch, pushing the match past the twenty minute mark before she finally connected with Darkness Falls and immediately slapping on the Lullaby, a combo that was simply too much for the Warrior Princess to take, forcing her to finally tap out and end the match.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Fusae Etsuko, by submission</strong></p><p><strong> Fusae Etsuko makes defence number 1 of her NGW Womens title</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="OMqWx1U.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OMqWx1U.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="NVsHmIw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NVsHmIw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="yNQekBM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yNQekBM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> With Geena still reeling on the mat, Joanne Rodriguez made her way to the ring and got in the champions’ face. NGW Back to the Future (Weekly TV show)

Held on Monday, Week 1 of August 2013

Venue: L'Aquila Universita, L'Aquila, Italy, Europe

Attendance: 3.667, Ratings: 0.75 (569.070 viewers), Shown on Continental Sports X1

The show kicks off with a video showing highlights from the main event of last week's Terror Rising, in which "The Gothic Grappler" Fusae Etsuko successfully defended the NGW Women's title against Geena the Warrior Princess.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5r1zvLUuBcM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

As the footage plays, both Etsuko and Geena make their entrances and enter the ring. Once the crowd settles down, Geena is the first to speak.

Geena: "There's no two ways about it, you beat me fair and square... so I'm out here to do what every honourable warrior would do... Congratulate you and bury the hatchet!"

Fans cheer for both women and a "fight forever" chant builds up, before Etsuko takes the mic.

Etsuko: "In my career, I've wrestled some of the best names in the business... but none of them ever pushed me to the limit like you did... I'm glad we can finally end our war, so I can focus on my next challenger... Joanne Rodriguez!"

The Ivanoff Brothers vs Champagne Lover and Giovanni Bruno

The loss of the NGW Heavyweight title really seemed to affect Lover's focus and as the match turned against his team, he was less and less interested in helping out Giovanni Bruno.

In a decent match, The Ivanoff Brothers defeated Champagne Lover and Giovanni Bruno in 10:02 when Ivan Ivanoff defeated Giovanni Bruno by pinfall with a Russian Roulette.

Winners: The Ivanoff Brothers

Backstage, the Real Deal are gathered around their leader and brand new NGW Heavyweight champion, Edward Cornell.

Cornell: "You are looking at the Alpha Male of this company... You are looking at a group of fighters, led by a fighting champion... Now that I hold this title, you will hear what I say and do as I do... I'm tired of paying dues and doing favors... I'm tired of being pushed around... So I won't hide away and hope a challenger for my title appears... I will CHOOSE my number one contender... and his name... is Roy Edison!"

The Lawal twins look surprised by the announcement and seem to object. Edison gets in the way to protect Cornell and Hossam to break it all up. From behind his defenders, Cornell continues on the mic.

Cornell: "Oh, so you got a problem, huh? Well, let's settle this like wrestlers... in the ring! Nigerian Hit Squad, versus Roy Edison and Wael Hossam!"

Elsewhere backstage, another group is gathered together. The League of Heroe's leader, Nelson Frye, addresses the men and women around him.

Frye: "Silver made his offer... but whether we accept it or not is not up to me... I want to hear from those involved and then we can discuss something that involves Girl Power..."

Laid back as usual, Matravers is the first to break the uneasy silence that follows Frye's words.

Matravers: "Look, I can beat Silver and get back the mask of Captain Hero... but for that to happen, I gotta know that Christopher [Lister] here is okay with putting his title on the line first."

Lister looks down at the NGW Cruiserweight title around his waist, then up again at the rest of the group.

Lister: "Silver is a manipulator and a cheater... he's using this to get what he wants... I can beat him in a straight wrestling match, but that's not what he'll show up for... I need to know I can rely on you all to protect me against his dirty tricks. Right now, me and Adam have to get ready for our match..."

John Silver & Leon Harrison vs Team Fly

NGW's founding duo wrestled the former NGW Cruiserweight Tag Team champions in this match, a set up for the implied singles matches that Silver might be getting against Lister and Matravers. As if confirming Lister's words earlier, Silver got a dirty win for his team and wasn't shy about yelling insults to both his opponents throughout the match.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, John Silver and Leon Harrison defeated Team Fly in 9:46 when John Silver defeated Adam Matravers by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage.

Winners: John Silver & Leon Harrison

The camera cuts to the familiar dinghy basement that's been serving as the Czars' meeting, drinking and training room. The view is momentarily obstructed as the massive frame of Marat Khoklov walks in front, headed for an old punching bag that's hanging from a chain on the roof. Marat turns the bag around, revealing a photo of Champagne Lover taped on it. Without a word, Khoklov rips off the photo and pulls out a photo of Edward Cornell from his gym bag, which he proceeds to slap on the bag instead.

Nigerian Hit Squad vs Wael Hossam & Roy Edison (with Edward Cornell)

A match booked earlier during the group's segment, this one emphasized the storytelling aspect of the group's dissent and how they punched it out between the ropes. Cornell was observing from the sidelines, but when needed, provided a crucial distraction that allowed Edison to slap on the Arm Bar and get the win for his team.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Wael Hossam and Roy Edison defeated Nigerian Hit Squad in 10:26 when Roy Edison defeated Rahabad Lawal by submission with an Arm Bar after interference from Edward Cornell.

With the menacing frames of the NGW Heavyweight Tag Team champions looming behind her, Signe Lytjohan cut a promo to hype up her clients.

Lytjohan: "Another loss for the former champions... though not as embarassing as the one they suffered at the hands of Bam Bam and Hercules here... Still the champions and still the best paid tag team on this roster... No one can defeat the Johanssons!"

Joanne Rodriguez vs Viper McKenna (with Sebastian Koller)

Rodriguez had a huge night at Terror Rising, first with a stellar performance and victory over Jeri "Air" Behr and then with a challenge for Fusae Etsuko's NGW Women's title. She kept up her streak in this episode's main event and picked up some more steam in light of her upcoming title match against a skilled wrestler and NGW mainstay in Viper McKenna.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Joanne Rodriguez defeated Viper McKenna in 13:45 by pinfall with a J-Rocker.

Winner: Joanne Rodriguez

Despite Frye's obvious advantage on nearly every front, except maybe youth, he sticks with technical wrestling and aims for the Royal Armbar instead of his usual tactics. This does allow the technically-oriented Mäkinen to shine as they go back and forth while announcers wonder if Frye is testing the youngster, perhaps in order to offer him a spot in the League down the line, because it looks like he's taking it a little easy but not exactly underestimating Mäkinen either. Whatever Frye's motives may be, his superior skill at this point just cannot be denied and after a surprisingly solid match, he manages to slap on the Royal Armbar and get the tap out from Mäkinen, which he once again congratulates after the match with a handshake.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><strong>Winner: Nelson Frye</strong></strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="VqnREXC.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/VqnREXC.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="25UZG0h.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/25UZG0h.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="GbpUsBI.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GbpUsBI.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> John Silver vs "Super Duper" Phillip Cooper</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Silver comes out carrying the all white mask of Captain Hero, which he holds up as he points to his waist, a signal of how he's holding the mask hostage and using the League's wish to reclaim it in order to secure himself a shot at the NGW Cruiserweight championship. The match plays into that story, with Cooper pulling off all his big moves while the dastardly Silver uses every dirty trick in the playbook to shut him down. He isn't above slapping the rookie around either and talking trash in his face, which does fire up Cooper for the occasional short comeback but also lures him in for a high risk move that Silver was ready for and uses it to set up his own finisher for the win.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: John Silver</strong></p><p> <img alt="IqChfad.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IqChfad.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="h8WdOUv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/h8WdOUv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Silver's win (and antics with the mask of Captain Hero) are quick to bring out the NGW Cruiserweight champion after the match.</p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46461" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Lister: <strong>"John Silver... A decent contest all around, this one's held back a bit by McKenna's constant interfering and Vidmar's frequent teasing of going for his signature vodka bottle, both of which end up dragging the attention away from the actual in-ring action. Some exciting, fast paced cruiserweight action to kick off the show, with Ven Heer using his speed and aerial attacks while Matravers opts to exploit his slight size and power advantage by grounding his opponent to the match as well as slamming him with the occasional suplex. The crowd is consistently on the side of the former tag team champions, who control the match thanks to their skill, experience and tag chemistry; Frye and Howard function like clockwork, which in turns bring out the best fighting spirit in their opponents. Edison takes most of the beating as he tries to grapple Howard to the mat, until Frye turns that approach against him and puts him in the Royal Armbar. Cornell rushes in to make the save and break it up, which launches Howard at him to start a ringside brawl. Less tired and beaten, Cornell easily comes out on top and then gets the tag from Edison to get in the match and wrestle Frye. Back to the Future, Monday Week 4 of August 2013

NGW Back to the Future (Weekly TV show)

Held on Monday, Week 4 of August 2013

Venue: Assebroek Courts, Bruges, Belgium, Europe

Attendance: 4.066, Ratings: 0.73 (553.820 viewers), Shown on Continental Sports X1

KRd8pBF.jpgLFcPDbz.jpgBJ5XbNO.jpgh8WdOUv.jpgVqnREXC.jpg

The show begins with some backstage footage of The League of Heroes talking among themselves when John Silver walks by.

Silver: "Aww, aren't you all cute, being best friends back here... I wouldn't get too friendly if I were you though, because tonight you'll be on opposite sides in the ring. You better find yourself a Cruiserweight teammate, Lister, because your opponents for tonight are Adam Matravers over there... and Shiro Akuma!"

Menace vs Kalvin Addams

Essentially a squash match, Menace throws Kalvin around and slams him repeatedly to the mat for the bigger part of the bout. The best Kalvin can do is use his ring wits and speed to dodge his big, plodding opponent, but without his brother by his side, he can never really get any offense going and Menace gets the win after flattening him out with an Ultimate Rejection.

Winner: Menace

Backstage, Signe Lytjohan is with the Johansson brothers.

Signe: "If you thought that was impressive, wait till you see my titans in action! Bam Bam and Hercules are the NGW Heavyweight Tag Team champions and they have these belts for a reason! What they don't have is a challenger, because no one dares face them in that ring!"

Christopher Lister & Shiro Akuma vs Adam Matravers & Leon Harrison

As announced during the episode's opening segment, Lister finds himself teaming with Shiro Akuma against Adam Matravers, who seems to have joined forces with Leon Harrison for this match. Though all four men are skilled and popular, neither seems to be really trusting of their teammate and that discord is what the match is built upon in order to tell a story. Akuma especially, not seen since he lost that singles title match against Lister at Starmageddon, is out for himself and his mysterious antics really seem to fire up fans. That's not to say he's being outright treasonous to Lister, just uncooperative and that goes all the way to the finish where Akuma rolls up Harrison for the pin, only to immediately walk away from the ring on his own, leaving Lister, Matravers, announcers and fans confused.

Winners: Christopher Lister & Shiro Akuma

If it has red velvet recliners, cheap potted plants and champagne cooling on ice, it must be Lover's Lounge! This week the guests are the NGW Heavyweight champion Edward Cornell and his challenger, Roy Edison.

Lover: "So, Edward... How does it feel to have stolen that title belt from me, only to hand out a shot to one of your allies?"

Cornell: "Oh I bet it must sting real bad to see me with the title, huh? Well get used to it, because I'm not letting go!"

Lover: "Does that mean you're gonna just blow the match and lie down for the pin like some kind of lap dog, Roy?"

Edison: "You shut your mouth, pretty boy! We're the Real Deal and we're all about real wrestling!"

The Czars vs The Outcasts (with Viper McKenna)

Following last week's backstage attack, the Outcasts team up to face the Czars and the match itself is quite exciting, unlike what one might expect from such a crowded situation. Of course, that is largely thanks to Marat Khoklov, who clears the ring as he sends bodies flying out, meaning the two groups fight outside the ring just as much as they wrestle inside it. McKenna tips the odds in her team's favour when she steals Vidmar's vodka bottle to prevent him from smashing it onto someone's head and Orson completes the upset when he kips up to grab a confused Vidmar for his Bounce Back finisher.

Winners: The Outcasts

Geena the Warrior Princess vs Joanne "J-Ro" Rodriguez

A match that could headline a pay per view is yet taking place on free TV and both women pull out all the stops to defeat each other. Geena's wild savage style is an interesting contrast to the graceful grappling and high flying of Rodriguez, yet they both maintain a fast pace to keep the flow of the match going and the excitement always above a certain level. The big finish comes after the fifteen minute mark of this epic clash, with Geena slingshotting herself into the ring for the Amazon Plunge, only for Rodriguez to catch her head mid-air and slam it down to the mat with a J-Rocker.

Winner: Joanne Rodriguez

yNQekBM.jpg

Before Rodriguez can savour her win or recover from an exhausting clash against the hard hitting Warrior Princess, Fusae Etsuko runs down to the ring and hits her with a flurry of stiff kicks! The show goes off the air with Rodriguez caught in the Lullaby and announcers wondering if this is what we're up for this Friday at Hotter than Hell.

Steve Smith and Fink Finkleton welcome viewers to the show, with Lawrence Young's absence explained as him having been moved to EWA to help the broadcasting team there. The duo runs down the show card for tonight and also brings up that the main event of Etsuko versus Rodriguez will not be refereed by Garry Garret, but NGW's first ever female referee and a former pro wrestler herself, Eva Berlin.

Ripper LeStat, Menace & Paolo Gandalfini vs Philip Cooper & The Foreign Legion

The three challengers may be Cruiserweights, but they have speed and energy on their side, as well as the tag team experience of the DuPont brothers and this makes for a pretty open-ended contest to kick off the show. Menace proves a bit too slow for the opposition, Cooper especially, while Gandalfini puts up some good wrestling before the joint efforts of the DuPonts wear him out. It's Ripper LeStat who saves the game for his team by throwing Cooper off balance onto the DuPonts, who are launched off the apron and eliminated while Cooper is hit with a Vlad's Impaler for the pin.

Winners: Ripper LeStat, Menace & Paolo Gandalfini

Ripper LeStat, Menace & Paolo Gandalfini make defence number 1 of their NGW Open Collective titles.

Champagne Lover & Jeri Behr vs Robert Howard & Geena the Warrior Princess

Geena starts the match with a head full of steam and takes the fight to her opponent, it only takes a small miscalculation though for Behr to evade and gain control of the match. Despite her solid offense, once she and Champagne Lover try to work together, their timing is all over the place and Geena catches Lover with a mule kick square to the jaw that creates an opening for her to tag in the Louisiana Pitbulll. Howard takes the ring by storm and focuses his attacks on Lover, but once he signals he's going for the Chaos Theory, Lover desperately rakes the eyes to interrupt the execution and hit a Lover Stunner that wins the match for his team.

Winners: Champagne Lover & Jeri Behr, by pinfall after using underhanded tactics.

The Czars vs Sebastian Koller, Wade Orson and The Johanssons (with Viper McKenna & Signe Lytjohan)

Things get crowded in and around the ring with this match, which sees Koller and Orson team up with the Johanssons against the Czars. Though Bam Bam and Hercules are not members of the Outcasts, they have beaten the Ivanoffs at Starmageddon to retain the titles and that leads to some heavy blows traded between the two teams, as well as some hoss fight sequences between the brothers and Marat Khoklov. It is the power the Norwegian brothers bring that helps balance out the presence of the Moscow Mauler and once again, Orson is able to surprise Vidmar with his kip up DDT finisher and score the surprise pin for the win.

Winners: Sebastian Koller, Wade Orson and The Johanssons, by pinfall

Christopher Lister © vs John Silver

First of the night's three singles title matches and one hotly anticipated by fans of the League of Heroes, as the legendary mask of Captain Hero is on the line alongside the NGW Cruiserweight title. John Silver seems to be taking it slow and trying to get inside his opponent's head, the match off to a complicated start as the two trade holds in some intricate chain wrestling sequences. Lister breaks up the opening stalemate with a slick suplex onto his opponent for a two count, then keeps things on the mat with submission holds until Silver gets to the ropes for the break. With Silver reeling, Lister hits the ropes to get some aerial offense going and the match picks up in pace as Silver tries to respond in kind. An attempt at a Kanobi Kutter is countered when Silver shoves Lister away before he can complete the move, but when he goes for the Silversault a few minutes later he comes up empty as Lister rolls away to avoid it. From there, Lister hits a shooting star press for a two count, before finally getting the Kanobi Kutter that keeps Silver down long enough for the pin.

Winner: Christopher Lister, by pinfall

"The Alpha Male" Edward Cornell © vs Roy Edison

Cornell and Edison shake hands at the start of the match in a show of sportsmanship and begin circling the ring as they size up each other. From the opening shoots for each other's limbs, the evasions and reversals, it is clear these two train together and know each other extremely well. Cornell manages to hit a few chops and top it off with a close range lariat for a two count, then goes for the Black Lightning Bomb already, a move the announcers comment as disrespectful to be used so early. Edison not only escapes, but rolls through to end up in control of Cornell's leg as he applies a knee lock. Screaming in pain, Cornell struggles and eventually makes it to the ropes, the look on his face showing he's both surprised and frustrated by his opponent. Edison continues to press on and seems to be targeting Cornell's arm, a tactic that gets a split reaction from the commentary team: Smith sees it as Edison chasing the armbar, while Finkleton insists Edison should continue to wear down Cornell's leg and specifically the knee he damaged with that knee lock. Tension builds up and Edison finally manages to slap on the armbar, but before he can fully lock it in, Cornell rolls over and puts Edison in a pinning predicament as a counter. Garry Garret drops down for the count and out of his sight, Cornell puts his legs on the ropes around the count of two to secure the situation and prevent Edison from getting a shoulder up.

Winner: Edward Cornell, by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage

NGW Women's title match

"The Gothic Grappler" Fusae Etsuko © vs Joanne "J-Ro" Rodriguez

Etsuko's gloomy entrance and persona is a stark contrast to the energetic ways and optimistic music of Rodriguez, a contrast that also translates into the ring as they lock up in a clash built around their similarities wrestling in Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Godesses as well as their differences. Everything one does, the other feeds off of it and this intangible chemistry really takes the match to the next level, as if it wasn't exceptional already. Well aware of the situation, J-Ro and Etsuko pace themselves to really build this up slow and push each other to the limit while keeping fans engaged in a titanic struggle of will and skill. Etsuko's stiff strikes are answered by Rodriguez in kind and the strong style exchange of blows sees no definitive winner, so Etsuko switches to technical wrestling, a potent mix of slams, suplexes and submission holds. Rodriguez shows amazing resilience in surviving everything Etsuko throws at her, but never manages to hit more than a couple of high flying offensive maneuvers before Etsuko shuts her down and resumes the attack. The stalemate forces both to pull off bigger and bigger moves, with Rodriguez being one of the few people ever to kick out of the Darkness Falls and Etsuko escaping a pin after she's hit with a J-Rocker, until Etsuko manages to put her challenger in the Lullaby. Rodriguez fights the hold for almost a full minute before she's able to get a foot on the ropes, but Etsuko is so caught up in the moment she never pays attention to the referee's count. Either that or, according to Fink Finkleton, she did it on purpose, because while the DQ means the victory goes to J-Ro, the title stays with Etsuko.

Winner: Joanne Rodriguez, by disqualification

NGW Back to the Future (Weekly TV show)

Held on Monday, Week 1 of September 2013

Venue: Assebroek Courts, Bruges, Belgium, Europe

Attendance: 4.066, Ratings: 0.73 (553.820 viewers), Shown on Continental Sports X1

h8WdOUv.jpgBJ5XbNO.jpgLFcPDbz.jpg

The show kicks off with a backstage segment. Christopher Lister is on the phone, flanked by Adam Matravers and Robert Howard.

Lister: "I know, Stig, it was crazy... Yes, we figured it's best to return it to you, then you can pass it on to whoev... oh? You'll be here yourself? The pay per view? Alright, this is big... Okay, we'll see you at Back to School then!"

IqChfad.jpg

KBU74Hx.jpg

NGW's Commissioner, Sebastian Krause, opens the show proper by coming out and addressing the live crowd in Bruges.

Krause: "Hotter than Hell was a resounding success, but that only pushes us to out-do ourselves this month in one of our biggest annual pay per views... Back to School! It's really going to be a huge deal and that's what I've come out to announce tonight, because at Back to School, it will be the last time in a long while you'll see many of your favourite wrestlers face each other... because at Back to School, we're breaking up the students into separate classrooms... that's right, we're going to do a draft for NGW's first ever brand split! That means more opportunities for everyone, less risks of talent getting lost in the shuffle but it also means one more thing... after Back to School, we'll be debuting our second, weekly, brand-specific television show!"

IqChfad.jpg

NVsHmIw.jpg

Joanne Rodriguez comes to the ring to a loud reaction from the fans.

Rodriguez: "Last Friday me and Etsuko tore the house down, proving we're every bit as good as our male counterparts... if not better! Between our match and the one Etsuko had with Geena, we've delivered two of the best encounters not just for this year, but in all of NGW's history! I think after such a showdown, it would be a shame to leave this unfinished... so, Fusae Etsuko... at Back to School, I want a rematch! No countouts, no disqualifications, just you and me in this ring!"

yNQekBM.jpg

Fusae Etsuko's music hits and the NGW Women's champion comes out with a mic in hand and the title belt around her waist.

Etsuko: "Joanne... you gave me one hell of a fight. So much, I lost myself and got disqualified. I've heard people say I did it on purpose to retain this title, but that's a lie... and I'm going to prove it, because I accept your challenge!"

Girl Power vs The Outcasts

The episode's opening match is a women's tag team match between the reunited League of Heroes members Behr and Nakajima against the two women in the Outcasts group, Melanie Flyman and Viper McKenna. It's a decent match and an opportunity to see Nakajima and McKenna wrestle again, the former now spending most of her time in EWA and the latter mostly appearing as a ringside manager. McKenna's absence from action is played up in a few spots where she "misses" her cues and Behr eventually hits her with the Standing Moonsault for the pin to end the match.

Winners: Girl Power

Backstage, Sebastian Koller is welcoming another face that hasn't been seen for a while in Landon Mallory when Shiro Akuma walks by.

Koller: "Hey masked man! I heard you're bitter about how your friends Lister and Matravers treated you... that to me sounds like a true Outcast! Landon here just came back to bolster our ranks, think we could use someone in the Cruiserweight division too... What do you say?"

Instead of answering, Akuma waves the offer away and continues on his way, leaving Koller and Mallory behind.

The Outcasts vs Champagne Lover & Paolo Gandalfini

Koller and Mallory make their entrance for their match, scheduled against former Army of Lovers allies Champagne Lover and Paolo Gandalfini. As the announcing team reminds the audience, Marcello Ricci and Giovanni Bruno are still training in EWA, which is where Gandalfini also spent time and the improvement shows in his wrestling. Koller and Mallory do gain the upper hand eventually to beat Gandalfini down and the hot tag to Champagne Lover does turn things momentarily around, but Lover doesn't look all that interested in this match and instead force-tags Gandalfini in to work the rest of it and take the inevitable fall once Mallory connects with a Springbok Ram.

Winners: The Outcasts

Double Dutch are backstage, carrying the NGW Cruiserweight Tag Team titles.

Van Bon: "You know, it's fun hearing about the upcoming draft, because me and Frank here haven't had a proper challenge for our titles here in quite some time..."

Van Heer: "And it doesn't look like we'll be getting any for a while... so I'm hoping this brand split means a few new faces show up, just so we can beat them and prove that me and Henrik here are fighting champions!"

The Czars vs Konrad Mäkinen and The Johanssons (with Signe Lytjohan)

The Russian bruisers seem to really be facing some serious opposition in the face of their Scandinavian opponents, especially the hulking NGW Heavyweight Tag Team champions. Bam Bam and Hercules tip the scales in their team's favor, even against Khoklov once they're able to team up against him. Mäkinen however makes a poor call when he decides to take the Moscow Mauler to the mat for a stretch and pays for it by taking a Moscow Lariat that puts him down for the three count.

Winners: The Czars

Nelson Frye comes down to the ring and grabs a mic before rolling in.

Frye: "Edward Cornell... I've held that NGW Heavyweight title on three separate occasions... I've broken my back for almost fifteen years in this ring to bring this company from a small town side show to the top of the European pro wrestling scene... I've paid my dues in blood, sweat and tears and I will not sit idly by as you spit on everything I've ever stood for by hand-picking your friends as your challengers and cheating your way to cheap title defenses!"

SoeMY3z.jpg

Fans roar in approval of Frye's scathing promo and not long after, Edward Cornell comes out at the top of the entrance ramp.

Cornell: "I've had enough of your whining, old timer... it's time for people like you to step aside and let the stars of today shine through! At Back to School, I'm gonna beat you so hard, you'll be begging to end up on a different brand than I will!"

"The Bratva Bruiser" Dovydas Vidmar vs "Awesome" Wade Orson

After pinning him twice in multi man matches, Wade Orson finally gets to go one on one against Dovydas Vidmar in the episode's main event match. Despite some grappling attempts from Orson, the match is mainly a striking contest between Vidmar's brutish brawling and Orson's crisp, precise strikes. The match is pretty even until just after the ten minute mark, past which Orson begins to slowly gain the upper hand. Vidmar barely avoids getting hit with the Bounce Back [kip up DDT] by shoving Orson onto referee Garry Garret and in the brief window of opportunity he's given, he is able to smash the vodka bottle he brings with him to the ring onto Orson's head to steal the win in the finish.

Winner: Dovydas Vidmar

The episode kicks off with a big announcement the broadcast team breaks down: following last week's main event match, this week we'll be seeing the competitors in tag team action as Wael Hossam teams up with Edward Cornell to take on "The Gentleman Grappler" Nelson Frye and "The Louisiana Pitbull" Robert Howard!

The Czars vs Wade Orson, Ripper LeStat, Menace & Paolo Gandalfini

The opening match also continued from where last week left off, after the Czars attacked the NGW Open Collective champions, with Orson and Khoklov getting involved. This contest was about telling two stories, Vidmar and the Ivanoffs feuding with the champions as well as Orson having Vidmar's number lately. The two plotlines made for some entertaining wrestling, but the big finish saw Marat destroy Menace with a ring-shaking Russian Legend Powerbomb to make a statement.

Winners: The Czars

As soon as the match was over, a graphic was shown to announce another match for Back to School: with Champagne Lover losing the NGW Heavyweight title to Edward Cornell, the match fans were waiting to see will be happening at Back to School as Marat Khoklov will be defending his Starmageddon King of the Ring prize against Champagne Lover!

The Outcasts vs Geena the Warrior Princess & The Johanssons (with Signe Lytjohan)

Following the surprise success of Geena's recent teaming with Robert Howard, this was another chance for her to shine next to the powerhouse team of the Johanssons and she did just that, taking on McKenna and then Mallory before Koller was able to shut her down. The Johanssons brought a lot of power to the table, but their lack of speed and wrestling experience showed; the Outcasts almost won the match and it took a distraction from Signe Lytjohan to turn things around and allow Hercules to hoist Mallory in the Hercules Lift for the submission win.

Winners: Geena the Warrior Princess & The Johanssons

"The Fresh Prince of Belarus" Sergei Kalashnov vs Shiro Akuma

Though not often seen on NGW TV, Sergei Kalashnov is somewhat of an indy sensation across Europe and this match showed why: him and Akuma went all out in this crazy match that was further enhanced by their apparent chemistry and how they seemed to feed off each other's moves and energy. Ten minutes packed with action, high flying moves and crazy stunts, this match delivered a show stealing performance and Akuma got the win courtesy of his Akuma Cradle finisher.

Winner: Shiro Akuma

Joanne Rodriguez & Jeri Behr vs Fusae Etsuko & Megumi Nakajima

It was the two J-ladies against the two Japanese Joshi competitors next, with the added element of the J-Ro-Etsuko title feud and Girl Power being split into opposing teams. This didn't seem to slow down Behr and Rodriguez though, who displayed an intrinsic understanding of each other's styles to the point where they looked like they had been teaming up forever. This slick teamwork gave Etsuko and especially Nakajima a hard time and Rodriguez was able to finally roll Nakajima up for the pin in an overall outstanding match.

Winners: Joanne Rodriguez & Jeri Behr

Champagne Lover hosted his popular interview segment next, Lover's Lounge. His guests, in the aftermath of the new brand and show announcement were none other than the founding duo of NGW, Leon Harrison and John Silver.

Lover: "So how is this new situation hopefully going to work out for you? Have there been any internal tensions over who does what? Is it a bit of a flashback to your early days running NGW?"

Harrison: "We're proud of what we've accomplished and this is just another step in taking NGW to the future. More content, more opportunities and more wrestling for our fans"

Silver: "Krause's done a great job as NGW Commissioner, so he'll carry on doing just that. Leon here will take over the business aspect of the company while Ill be taking over creative duties in the new brand to do what I do best, develop young talent into the stars of tomorrow while delivering the best shows possible!"

Both pairings have documented chemistry which elevated this match to new heights, but Fry and Howard also have the advantage of actual experience teaming together. This gave them the slight advantage throughout this match, an otherwise pretty even and competitive bout built up slowly across more than fifteen minutes of action and in-ring psychology before Howard hit the Bull Tackle on Hossam for the win.

Winners: The Gentleman and The Pitbull

As one would expect, every member of both teams puts on a great performance in what would otherwise could be a messy multi-man match, but the story is built around the consistency of the League and their momentum since reclaiming the mask of Captain Hero, versus the internal tensions of the Real Deal, which end up with the Lawal brothers flipping off their teammates and leaving them to return backstage, the 4 on 2 situation quickly ending the match with Lister pinning Edison after a Kanobi Kutter.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: The League of Heroes</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="At6zmyr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/At6zmyr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="TgQORsF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TgQORsF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="bGfQcLk.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bGfQcLk.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="25UZG0h.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/25UZG0h.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="wuo51A1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wuo51A1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="WUS40Jt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/WUS40Jt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> Marat Khoklov & Dovydas Vidmar vs Champagne Lover & Wade Orson</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Lots to break down in this match and the announcing team does just that, first bringing up how Orson lately has had Vidmar's number, beating him on several occasions, then the recent brawl where Orson saved the NGW Open Collective champions before Khoklov got involved and now the highly anticipated match for Back to School that was announced last week, Marat defending his right to face the NGW Heavyweight champion at End of the World in December against Champagne Lover. There is also the aspect of the blue chipper Orson teaming with one of NGW's biggest names in Lover, against the top two men in the Czars. All the above feed into the match and in turn are showcased in the story told. Vidmar starts the match being his usual bruiser self against Orson, who fights back with a mix of technical grappling, power moves and big suplexes. The tag is made to Champagne Lover who picks up the pace with some high flying but can't put Vidmar down. The Bratva Bruiser is able to tag in Khoklov and the two scheduled opponents have a brief staredown, before Marat starts to throw the former NGW Heavyweight champion around. Realizing the danger, Orson blind tags himself in during one of Lover's runs to the ropes and Vidmar asks to be tagged back in so he can beat down his recent nemesis. However, when Marat blocks the ref's field of view and Vidmar goes for his vodka bottle, Orson is ready and avoids the blow, before grabbing the bottle off Vidmar's hands to smash it on his head and drive his bloodied head to the mat with a DDT for the pin.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: Champagne Lover & Wade Orson</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="wuo51A1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wuo51A1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> After the match, Champagne Lover retreats to a safe distance a grabs a mic.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46461" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Lover: <strong>"Hey Marat... This time however, Fusae Etsuko has a much more dangerous teammate in Geena the Warrior Princess and while the conflict of Behr versus Nakajima isn't there, Geena's presence adds more than enough drama and tension to the match given her history with Rodriguez, Etsuko and the NGW Women's title. J-Ro and Behr are able to hold back the powerful amazon warrior for most of the match, but Etsuko's potent mix of strikes and submission holds is just too much for Behr, who is hit with a decaptating Darkness Falls running knee and falls down for the pin while Geena hits the Amazon Plunge to knock Rodriguez off the apron and hold her away at ringside and prevent her from breaking up the cover.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winners: Fusae Etsuko & Geena the Warrior Princess</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Show Rating:</span></strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46461" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Confirmed matches for Back to School</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><ul><li>NGW Heavyweight title match: "Alpha Male" Edward Cornell © vs "The Gentleman Grappler" Nelson Frye<br /></li><li>NGW Women's title No Disqualification match: "The Gothic Grappler" Fusae Etsuko © vs Joanne "J-Ro" Rodriguez<br /></li><li>Tag Team titles unification match: Double Dutch vs The Johanssons<br /></li><li>Marat Khoklov vs Champagne Lover, for the right to face the NGW Heavyweight champion in the main event of End of the World in December</li></ul><p></p><p> Plus the Brand Split Draft, an appearance by Stig Svensson to reclaim the Captain Hero mask and more!</p></div></blockquote>
