I can see why "restore the strength" could be read as "recover if attacked". Granted, it doesn't say that, but it doesn't say exactly what it does do either.

No, it doesn't spell out the entire mechanic in detail, but where would be the fun in that?

I think it can only be read that way if you disregard the entire rest of the PM. "Restore them to their former selves," is pretty clear - Revive previous abilities. It's also clearly a Day ability, the drug cocktail is administered at the end of the day, prior to the night phase - "for the night ahead."

Luke and Black Phenom both read The Night 4 Write-up in which a figure throws themselves in front of the mafia assassin and attempts to fight them off and protect Kijar and said - "Hey, that's me!" Explain that to me, please, because I still don't get it.

It also really puzzled Leion, the REAL protector.

While the role PM in no way implies it, I'll agree there, I could see the logic behind, "I targeted Kijar and he got protected so maybe there is a protection component." From there it got blown out of proportion.

If it was a night ability, it would be a night ability.

Moving on from our Nurses, we get to our other active townies.

First up, Kijar.

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Receptionist

You may not look like the busiest or most important person in the building, sat behind your desk with a magazine in one hand and a cell phone in the other, but you are more observant than they give you credit for. Nothing happens in this place without you knowing about it, you see every person who comes and goes from the building, you have access to everyone’s files, and you have a nose for gossip.

After the violent death of the primary care nurse, you know there’s something strange going on and you want to get to the bottom of things. Until this is all over, you’re going to hide out in a spare bedroom and spend your nights digging around to see if you can learn the truth about the residents and figure out what’s really going on. Officially you’re not meant to remain in the building after dark, and being neither a resident nor part of the medical staff, you will look very out-of-place prowling the halls at night. Each night you will investigate on of the residents and learn their true intentions.

Each NIGHT PHASE, you may PM the name of the player you wish to investigate to THE TWO and DEREK B.

You win when all threats to Sunset Acres have been defeated.

Kijar was our real investigator, he caught ShadowedFlames and would have had MLT too, but he announced himself so publicly, there was no way scum would let him live through the night.

He was also on the receiving end of two lots of drugs that he clearly didn't need on the night he died. This was the PM he receive for that:

As night falls and you make you preparations for the night ahead, you find two small plastic cups full of pills sitting on your desk.

You didn’t see where they came from and can’t tell who they belong to. You obviously don’t need any medication, so you collect the pills and lock them away safely in the medicine cabinet.

With that sorted, you can go about your night work as normal.

It's a shame he didn't live long enough to inform everyone what had happened.

Next up: Leion

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Doctor

Leaving medical school, you never planned to end up stuck in geriatric medicine. You wanted to be where the action was and for the next decade you worked as a paramedic, treating wounds and saving lives in the back of an ambulance as it hurtled through city streets. But then a combination of bad luck and poor life choices cost you that position and you wound up here, working the only job you could find as what often feels like the only competent doctor in a retirement home.

You were at home when the attack on the primary care nurse occurred, and by the time you got here there was nothing you could do to save them. You’re not going to make that mistake again. From now on, you’re going to stay at Sunset Acres 24/7 until the threat has passed. Each night you will stand guard over one of your patients, protecting them from harm and using all your skills to keep them alive.

Each NIGHT PHASE you may PM the name of the player you wish to protect to THE TWO and DEREK B.

You win when all threats to Sunset Acres have been defeated.

Leion had a good game, but he gave away too much, too early, under minimal pressure. Scum made him as the doctor, and blocked him every night from then on until finally killing him.

Like the Receptionist, and the Nurses themselves, if he had received drugs he would have neatly put them away again.

Let's move on to our townie residents, starting with Arrows.

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Union Leader

You started out as a young man working in the shipyards, as pretty much all working class young men did. As you grew into the job, you were quickly recognised as a natural leader of men and recruited into a senior position within the trade union. Your charismatic oratory helped grow the power of the union, your members would follow you anywhere, and follow you they did through strikes and sit-ins in defence of their pay and conditions. Through your leadership, the union could bring the bosses to their knees.

But age catches up to us all. Your glory days are now decades in the past. The years have dulled your senses, arthritis has robbed your fingers of their dexterity, and you find yourself living out your final years in this retirement home. You wish there was something more you could do to help in this crisis, but you just feel so tired.

You win when all threats to Sunset Acres have been defeated.

Arrows was a vanilla townie and died before he could find his stride in the game. If he had received drugs, this is the PM he would have received:

As night falls, you feel your symptoms begin to fade and your strength return to you. You haven’t felt this good in years. This feeling may not last for long, so you’re going to take full advantage of it. Finally, there’s something you can do in this crisis. You will leave your room tonight and walk the halls, telling everyone you meet about the importance of solidarity, class consciousness and collective bargaining.

Next up, bak42, the first of our potentially useful townies.

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Locksmith

Locksmithing is an underappreciated profession, but you dedicated your life to it right out of school. You were good at it to, you knew everything there was to know about building locks and cutting keys. If you had been a dishonest person, you would have been dangerous as the lock hasn’t been built that you wouldn’t be able to pick.

This was one of the more obtuse of the power roles, but to his credit Bak42 figured it out and stated it in the thread. Sadly, nobody listened.

As night falls, you feel your symptoms begin to fade and your strength return to you. You haven’t felt this good in years. This feeling may not last for long, so you’re going to take full advantage of it. Finally, there’s something you can do to help in this crisis.

Tonight you will put your lifetime of experience to good use. You will use your skills as a locksmith to lock the door of another resident, confining them to their room and preventing them from leaving until the day shift arrive in the morning.

PM the name of the player you wish to roleblock to THE TWO and DEREK B.

Crychon

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Chef

Your cooking is the stuff of legends. In the course of your career, you won every culinary award there is to win. You worked in the finest restaurants in the most important cities in the world, serving the great and the good. People would travel from miles around to sample your menus.

Crychon hinted early and fully claimed late in the game but continued to be treated as a suspect. The bad food in the writeup was there for Crychon. If he had been given drugs, he would have changed that.

As night falls, you feel your symptoms begin to fade and your strength return to you. You haven’t felt this good in years. This feeling may not last for long, so you’re going to take full advantage of it. Finally, there’s something you can do in this crisis. You will leave your room tonight and head for the kitchen to prepare the greatest breakfast this home has ever seen.

Destiny

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Gumshoe

You were a real Sam Spade, see. A gumshoe, a private dick, trying to find a little bit of justice in this rotten world and get paid for it too. Whether you were tracking down a dame who had gone missing, or helping out a broad who thought her husband was messing around on her, you were used to encountering shady characters who shine a blade and knowing when to take a powder. You knew every dive bar and seedy strip club in this city. You were just the man anyone would want working their case, a tireless investigator for truth and you have the scars to prove it.

But age catches up to us all. Your glory days as a P.I. are now decades in the past. The years have dulled your senses, disease has sapped your strength, and you find yourself living out your final years in this retirement home. You wish there was something more you could do to help in this crisis, but you just feel so tired.

You win when all threats to Sunset Acres have been defeated.

Destiny got rolecopped by scum, and they thought he might be the real investigator, which is ultimately what got him killed.

As night falls, you feel your symptoms begin to fade and your strength return to you. You haven’t felt this good in years. This feeling may not last for long, so you’re going to take full advantage of it. Finally, there’s something you can do to help in this crisis.

Tonight you will put your decades of detective experience to good use by choosing one of the other residents to investigate and learn their true intentions.

PM the name of the player you wish to investigate to THE TWO and DEREK B.

Djthefunkchris

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Equestrian

Like practically all little girls, you loved horses, but few are fortunate enough to have a horse of their own as you did. You rode and cared for that horse every day. For the rest of your life hardly a day passed in which you weren’t on horseback. You became a champion rider and won medals for dressage – the art of horse dancing. You and your horses were inseparable.

But age catches up to us all. Your glory days on horseback are now decades in the past. The years have dulled your senses, disease has sapped your strength, and you find yourself living out your final years in this retirement home. You wish there was something more you could do to help in this crisis, but you just feel so tired.

You win when all threats to Sunset Acres have been defeated.

DJ preserved my sanity for a lot of the game, he broadly figured out the mechanics of the nurse, made clear that he was useless, and encouraged the nurses to find someone with a useful former profession that a detective or a doctor. We'll get to Phoenix shortly.

As night falls, you feel your symptoms begin to fade and your strength return to you. You haven’t felt this good in years. This feeling may not last for long, so you’re going to take full advantage of it. Finally, there’s something you can do amidst this chaos.

You will put on your old gear, leave your room and wander the halls tonight, you feel fit enough to go horse riding again.

If you can find a horse.

But you won’t.

When we were planning the game, I initially didn't plan on sending anything to the VTs when the nurses chose them. But then I thought of this exact PM, and it made me laugh. After that, I wrote PMs for everyone.

Emark

You are Sunset Acres Aligned Ornithologist

Birds are endlessly fascinating and you made it your life’s work to study them. With your trusty binoculars you would spend hours carefully watching and documenting their behaviour, learning everything there was to know about the little creatures. When you weren’t out bird watching, you would be writing about your findings and published several books about birds. Through these, you became respected as one of the foremost experts in your region.

But age catches up to us all. Your glory days are now decades in the past. The years have dulled your senses, disease has sapped your strength, and you find yourself living out your final years in this retirement home. You wish there was something you could do to help in this crisis, but you just feel so tired.

You win when all threats to Sunset Acres have been defeated.

Emark got it, he knew what he could become, but he was never given the chance.

You will take your binoculars off the shelf and use them to surveil one of the other residents and learn whether anybody else approaches them during the night.

PM the name of the player you wish to watch to THE TWO and DEREK B.

Each day you will steal enough drugs from the nurses’ cabinet to give TWO of them the strength to serve you that night.

You must send one of them to Kill another player each Night Phase.

You can order the other to perform any of the following functions:

Interrogate – Learn a player’s role title

Frame – Change a player’s perceived alignment

Roleblock – Prevent a player from carrying out their actions

Study - Obtain a role title belonging to a former resident (fake claim)

You will appear Sunset Acres Aligned on investigation.

Each NIGHT PHASE you must PM your team’s actions to THE TWO and DEREK B.

You win when you equal or outnumber the remaining players.

That's why he had a proper name. Sunset Acres is a stealth sequel to Medical Mafia. Ray's character was the host and setting of that game, he survived death once in that game, but then Ray had to go guessing that having the Grim Reaper as an SK was exactly the kind of shenanigans we would include in a game and BlueStar killed him for it.

As you can see, the drugs mechanic was also built in to the scum team. They had enough for two people by default, but could have been given more abilities by the Nurses. We hoped that might incentivise the mafia to not prioritise killing them.

And finally we have Moon lit tears, Teh Showtime, Gonvick, and Jaded

You are Mafia Aligned Goon

Crime is a family business, you were raised in it. As far back as you can remember, you’ve always been a gangster. You rolled with the Neroli crew, they owned every seedy casino and strip club in the city. You were kings, you wanted for nothing, women loved you and men cowered at the sight of you. Wherever you went you left a trail of broken bodies and empty bottles.

But age catches up to us all. Those glory days are the distant past. The years have withered your body, disease has robbed you of your strength, and you found yourself here, living out your final days in a retirement home full of old geezers who think you used to own a restaurant, with only a few of your old mob buddies for company.

That was until your old Godfather’s son showed up. Despite his bizarre deformities, you recognised him instantly. Old habits die hard and he has recruited you to join his battle to seize control of this place for yourselves.

The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak. Each day the Don will obtain enough drugs to give only TWO of you the strength to carry out his commands each night.

Your Godfather is: Rayelek

Your fellow Goons are:

Moon_lit_tears, Jaded & Teh_Showtime

A place for you talk in private has been established: REDACTED

You win when you equal or outnumber the remaining players.
