He turned out to be fine after the move and was able to get in some more offense of his own before ultimately being defeated with a second Backdrop Suplex.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"><em> </em></span><span style="color:#000000;"><em><strong>**Jumbo Tsuruta makes defense number 30 of his NWA United National title.**</strong></em></span></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>RATING: </strong></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#00FF00;"><strong>89</strong></span></span></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p> </div></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#C0C0C0;"><strong><em>Match No. 7</em></strong></span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> <div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:gold;border-style:solid;border-width:5px";"></p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>'PWF World Heavyweight Championship'</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>Harley Race © vs. Giant Baba</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><span style="color:#000000;"><em>60-minute time limit</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><img alt="yFkChgH.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yFkChgH.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><img alt="gfXBKLm.jpg?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gfXBKLm.jpg?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><img alt="DtLrT7j.jpg?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DtLrT7j.jpg?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="2yqTPMD.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2yqTPMD.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="P7X3431.jpg?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/P7X3431.jpg?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#000000;"><em>In an exceptional match, </em></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#FFD700;"><em><strong>Harley Race</strong></em></span></span><span style="color:#000000;"><em> defeated </em></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#FFD700;"><em><strong>Giant Baba</strong></em></span></span><span style="color:#000000;"><em> in 28:04 by pinfall with a Piledriver.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"><em> Race was able to use his smaller size to his advantage as he could evade Baba's more lumbering offense. Interesting decision to start uniting titles.

On a sidenote, I've been playing around with title hierarchies, and the way I currently set it up for AJPW prior to unification is that the UN title is the most important one, followed by All-Asia and then International. With the idea being that Japan is No.1, Asians are okay I guess, so No.2 and then International is third because it's too foreign for the isolationist ways of King's Road. :p

BREAKING: Bruiser Brody Walks Out on All Japan Pro Wrestling

KkFoIvi.jpg?1

92x9Qv8.jpg?1

In what was nothing short of a shocking development just weeks after the conclusion of the New Year Giant Series tour, NWA International Heavyweight champion Bruiser Brody announced that he had signed a touring contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling, effectively ending his tenure with All Japan Pro Wrestling. Brody was reportedly intent on bringing the NWA International Heavyweight Championship with him to New Japan, however, All Japan and NWA officials were hellbent on making sure that was not so. Brody reluctantly relinquished the title belt in late-February, with the title currently being held vacant. Brody's move threw a wrench in All Japan's booking plans for their next tour that stretches from March to July with reports from close to those in the booking committee that their plans to unify the NWA International Heavyweight and NWA United National Championships will have to wait until the end of the tour.

As for what will happen with the NWA International Heavyweight Championship for now, All Japan and NWA officials are keeping their mouths shut.

As for Brody? Well, needless to say, All Japan officials certainly aren't looking to have him back anytime soon. One official went off the record in telling us "If it were up to me, you would never see Bruiser Brody work in All Japan Pro Wrestling ever again." It has been suggested that All Japan is a bit more wary about bringing in freelance wrestlers now, with only three touring contracts being offered for their upcoming spring/summer run.

Puroresu News

All Japan Pro Wrestling

  • AJPW has signed Magic Dragon, Kazuo Yamazaki, Shiro Koshinaka and George Takano to two-year pay-per-appearance contracts. Accepting touring contracts for the spring/summer tour were Tiger Jeet Singh, David von Erich and Kevin von Erich.
  • The touring contract of Mil Mascaras expired shortly after New Year Giant Series. As broken earlier, Bruiser Brody also left All Japan for New Japan Pro Wrestling shortly after the completion of the New Year Giant Series tour.

New Japan Pro Wrestling

  • Several new faces are set to make their debuts for New Japan with American stars Ric Flair, Ted Dibiase, Bruiser Brody and the upstart Randy Savage inking touring contracts with Inoki's company.
  • A large amount of talent were shown the door from New Japan, however, as Adrian Adonis, Hulk Hogan, Masanobu Kurisu, Black Cat, El Canek, Kazuo Yamazaki, George Takano, Haruka Eigen, Fumihiro Niikura, Abullah Tamba, Gran Hamada, Shin Arakawa, Hidenobu Kanda and Jesse Ventura being released from their contracts. Ryuma Go completed his touring contract with New Japan at the end of January.
  • NJPW activated three new championships with the IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Junior Heavyweight and IWGP Tag Team Championships now being defended with the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship remaining active as well.
  • Yoshiaki Fujiwara was the first IWGP Heavyweight champion for three weeks before Riki Choshu took the title in late-January. Choshu is the current champion.
  • Tatsumi Fujinami and Antonio Inoki are the current IWGP Tag Team champions, ending Animal Hamaguchi and Rusher Kimura's one-week reign with the titles in mid-January.
  • Dynamite Kid has held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship since the start of the new year. Tiger Mask continues to hold the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship.

With the idea being that Japan is No.1, Asians are okay I guess, so No.2 and then International is third because it's too foreign for the isolationist ways of King's Road. :p

My logic behind it is I feel that having two major singles heavyweight titles is a bit easier for me to book and plan for the future. Also, I'd like to make full use of the roster I've got now with the latest signings and not rely as much on touring wrestlers for the future; with three belts, I feel that I'd run out of fresh title challengers pretty quick. Just my feeling on the matter.

Just looking up AJPW results from the time period and just going off the in-game prestige stats, it appears the NWA International Heavyweight Championship was treated as the bigger championship - although the PWF World Heavyweight Championship would headline shows with both belts on the line as well. For NYGS I thought having Brody headline would put on the better match as with Baba I had some concerns with his stamina. Turns out I didn't really need to be concerned at all.

Have just caught up with this and am really enjoying it; you have an intriguing roster!

Thank you! Think it'll get even more interesting the further we advance into the game. Champion Carnival and Real World Tag League should be fun.

Excite Series Pre-Tour Press Conference/Briefing

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:blue;border-style:solid;border-width:5px";">

  • Genichiro Tenryu declares himself as Harley Race's next challenger for the PWF World Heavyweight Championship. He hypes up Race as being a solid champion and one of the top wrestlers in the world, but he knows that he can be the one to topple his reign. With no other title match being signed so far for the tour, the match has already been declared to be the main event of the final night of the Excite Series tour towards the end of the month.
  • As for what lays ahead for both NWA-owned singles championships, Jumbo Tsuruta's challenger is set to be unveiled through the tour and should be defended in the semi-main event of the tour's final night. The NWA International Heavyweight Championship, however, will not be put on the line in competition during the tour. Instead, the winner of next month's Champion Carnival tournament will be crowned as the new champion. Participants and further tournament format details will be announced through the Excite Series tour.

I get what you mean. I like using tertiary titles as hoppers, though.

Oh yeah, I'm not talking about IRL. I try and play around with the game data a bit in most databases to make it more interesting. So for me the UN title is the oldest in Japan, not the All-Asia and you get the aforementioned hierarchy, where the International Tag Team titles are always centered around gaijin (and maybe even defended abroad in Amarillo or Hawaii!). Or I do NJPW, and have the NWF and WWF titles rebranded as IWGP titles years earlier in the timeline. :p

Looking at the current list of people out of NJPW, I'd have to say that I wouldn't mind seeing Haruka Eigen and George Takano back in AJPW, sumo boys they are. Though Fumihiro Niikura and Kazuo Yamazaki are young wrestlers (debuted in 1981 and 1982) so your interest might lean there. And Hidenobu Kanda is a man out of time, given he only debuted in 1985!

I initially took the stance of not interfering with that stuff as it could make for good storyline potential (ie, Brody jumping to NJPW... although he was due to have his contract expire midway through this tour anyway), but there's several freelancers presently employed that I (potentially) have big plans for.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> If you think it would enhance your diary and makes sense to you, I say go for it.</p>

It's up to you contract wise and freelancing wise - the game uses freelancing in a way that the real world doesn't. In terms of realism long term written contracts weren't the norm but in the real world freelancers like freedom and wont necessarily sign long term written deals but don't always move on at the end of their current deal like they do in game. If you wanted to make the change then changing the Freelancer status but leaving them to PPA's would leave open the thing where they could jump ship at anytime which is very much the way the world was in 83.

**POST-MATCH**

Onita motions for a microphone after his match as the ring announcer obliges and hands the 25-year-old his microphone for whatever he has to say.

Onita: Ever since I graduated from the All Japan Pro Wrestling dojo, I feel I have been overlooked... and I'm tired of it! I know I have the ability to reach the top of the ladder in this sport, I just need that one chance... that one opportunity. At the conclusion of the Excite Series tour, I'm going to take that opportunity. For the final night at Excite Series, I wish to challenge none other than Giant Baba!! Baba, I await your response.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Akio Sato, Takashi Ishikawa and Goro Tsurumi defeated The Great Kabuki, Magic Dragon and Mitsuo Momota in 7:32 when Takashi Ishikawa defeated Mitsuo Momota by pinfall with a Sumo Tackle.

A quick match, it stayed even throughout the duration of it until a distraction from Sato allowed Momota to be caught by a Sumo Tackle by the other half of the AJPW All-Asia Tag Team champions.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Tiger Jeet Singh and Umanosuke Ueda defeated Kodo Fuyuki and Masanobu Fuchi in 12:46 when Tiger Jeet Singh defeated Kodo Fuyuki by submission with a Cobra Claw.

Fuyuki and Fuchi's youth allowed them to run rings around Singh and Ueda in the early stages of the match, however, a shady punch to the throat from Ueda evened up the odds as his side soon began to take over the match. The young Fuyuki was unfortunately the one to take the loss for his side as Singh finished him off with a Cobra Twist a few minutes before the 15-minute mark.

In a solid match, Dory Funk Jr. defeated Kevin Von Erich in 15:01 by submission with a Texas Cloverleaf.

Fritz's son took it to Funk Jr. with a flurry of offense through the opening minutes that caught the veteran off guard. Funk's attempts to grab a hold on the agile youngster only proved to be successful half the time as Von Erich continued to out-maneuver Funk. Ultimately, Funk's experience began to pay off as he kept Von Erich trapped on the ground for a time before finally getting the victory with a Texas Cloverleaf.

In an exceptional match, Harley Race and Stan Hansen defeated Jumbo Tsuruta and Mitsuharu Misawa in 24:33 when Stan Hansen defeated Mitsuharu Misawa by pinfall with a Western Lariat.

The match became one of pride as both remaining singles champions in AJPW - Tsuruta and Race - tried to remain as the legal man for as long as possible with both trying to prove their superiority over the other. Neither man could ever get a true advantage over the other, so they each tagged out to their respective partner. Misawa, still motivated to even the odds against the now absent Bruiser Brody, fought with a tremendous ferocity against Brody's longtime friend Hansen; but, a late mistake allowed him to get caught by a Western Lariat for the loss.

A lot of my picks are guess work. I know all of the non-natives (The Funks, Harley Race, etc.) and a few of the Japanese workers. But for the most part I have no clue who some of the workers are.

Same here; I definitely wouldn’t take my lack of success at predictions as a negative towards your booking!
