Misawa was able to connect with a stiff running forearm, but came up just short of getting the pinfall as Fuyuki just managed to get a shoulder up just prior to the three count. Baba's lanky frame allowed him to slip away and grab a hold of Funk though and make him pay with some overhead chops and a headlock of his own. Funk soon realized he was going to have to retool his strategy if he were going to stand a fighting chance against the giant. Funk then opted for a direct attack right to the knees of Baba as he would continually slip behind the giant and chop block him down to the ground. An early attempt at a Texas Cloverleaf shortly before the 15-minute mark was thwarted as Baba managed to kick Funk away and straight through the ropes to the outside.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"><em> Heading out to the outside to retrieve Funk, Baba was caught by surprise with several forearms on the outside before being shoved ribs-first into the ring apron. Funk attempted to get a countout victory, but Baba had enough time to recover and return to the ring as Wada's count reached 15. Funk immediately pounced on the returning Baba with stomps as he then tried to choke him out with a sleeper hold. Baba nearly faded to the hold, but found a second wind as he powered his way to his feet and took Funk down with a fireman's carry slam. This time, it was Baba's turn to inflict punishment as he booted Funk in the head as he was getting to his feet. A second attempt by Funk to get to his feet was met with a Running Big Boot by Baba as the giant then made the pin for the victory.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>RATING:</strong></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#008000;"><strong> 75</strong></span></span></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p> </div></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>___________________________________________</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">'A Block' Standings after Night 3 of 15</span></strong><p> </p><p> Jumbo Tsuruta: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Masanobu Fuchi: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Stan Hansen: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Harley Race: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Terry Funk: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Atsushi Onita: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> Chavo Guerrero: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> The Great Kabuki: 0 [0-2-0]</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">'B Block' Standings after Night 4 of 15</span></strong><p> </p><p> Genichiro Tenryu: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Giant Baba: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Umanosuke Ueda: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Dory Funk Jr.: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Kodo Fuyuki: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Ashura Hara: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> Mitsuharu Misawa: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> Tiger Jeet Singh: 0 [0-2-0]</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>___________________________________________</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="joshbrady91" data-cite="joshbrady91" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Two really good shows <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="alpha2117" data-cite="alpha2117" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Love this old school fed it's just terrific stuff</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Thank you both!</p>

Fuchi adopted a more measured approach to his offense to keep Hansen on his toes as Hansen elected to try to wear Fuchi down early by trying to throw Fuchi to the mat with a slam or suplex at each chance he would get. the match remained at a stalemate through 15 minutes as it soon became clear to Hansen that Fuchi wasn't going to go down as easily this time around. A backdrop suplex from Hansen nearly succeeded in keeping Fuchi down for the count, but the smaller wrestler just managed to get a shoulder up in time. An attempt at a follow-up Lariat from Hansen resulted in Fuchi locking the brute into a crossface that was soon transitioned to a Joint Torture Hold. Hansen was able to hold out for awhile in the hold, but it was clear that he was making no progress in being able to escape from the hold. With that, Kyohei Wada called for the bell, handing Hansen his first loss of the tournament. A bewildered Hansen immediately rose to his feet and started chasing Wada around. To the Texan, Wada was out of order for calling the match.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>RATING: </strong></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#008080;"><strong>82</strong></span></span></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p> </div></p>

Tenryu still had plenty of energy to use as he was able to easily escape from Fuyuki's grasp and in turn hit a sidewalk slam on Fuyuki that changed the balance of the match. From there, the match turned into a contest between Tenryu and Fuyuki to see who could hit the other the hardest as both men exchanged heavy slams along with heavy strikes to see who would buckle first. In a solid opening match, Chavo Guerrero [2] defeated The Great Kabuki [0] in 11:35 by pinfall with a German Suplex.

Fairly even opening contest with both men getting an equal share of offense throughout it. Guerrero was ultimately able to grab his first two points of the tournament with a German Suplex just after the 10-minute mark.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Atsushi Onita [4] defeated Masanobu Fuchi [6] in 16:59 by pinfall after using a foreign object.

Onita brought Fuchi's momentum crashing to a halt with this upset of a victory in a match that Fuchi thoroughly controlled. Given how successful he was in his previous Champion Carnival match with his dirty tactics, it really was no surprise to see Onita going back to the same strategy for his next match up. Fuchi was close to locking Onita down with a Joint Torture Hold on several occasions, but Onita always found a way to escape from the setup. As the fight spilled out to the floor, Onita had Kyohei Wada distracted long enough to knock the ring bell over Fuchi's head to knock him senseless. After rolling his opponent into the ring, Onita made the cover to get his second victory in two nights.

In an exceptional match, Harley Race [5] drew with Stan Hansen [5] in 30:00 when the time limit expired.

An even match throughout all of its 30 minutes, Race and Hansen each appeared to have an answer to the others' attacks - preventing one man from gaining enough momentum to put the other down. A fall was nearly made just after the 25-minute mark as Hansen was able to drop Race with a piledriver of his own, but the PWF World Heavyweight Champion was just able to get a shoulder up. Hansen stayed on the attack to the end of the match, but just wasn't able to connect with the Lariat for a win. As the timekeeper signaled the conclusion of the match, Hansen was visibly frustrated as he has now gone two consecutive matches without a win.

In an exceptional match, Terry Funk [4] defeated Jumbo Tsuruta [6] in 28:09 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Another match that stayed even throughout most of it, Tsuruta began to string together enough offense prior to the 20-minute mark that it appeared he was about to put Funk down with a Backdrop Suplex. Funk had other plans, however, as he was able to escape a Backdrop Suplex attempt and summoned all of his strength to whip Tsuruta into the corner. Tsuruta just wasn't the same after that corner whip as he appeared to be favoring his back. With the NWA United National Champion no longer at 100-percent, Funk was able to string together plenty of offense and was able to drop Tsuruta with one Piledriver, but Tsuruta just managed to kick out. The singles champion wasn't fortunate enough to be able to kick out of the second Piledriver, however.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Mitsuharu Misawa [4] defeated Ashura Hara [0] in 14:23 by submission.

Misawa's early momentum was halted by Hara, who delivered a chop block to Misawa then followed up with several successive slams to daze the young Misawa. Hara was able to capitalize with some offense for several minutes, but Misawa was soon able to find a second wind as he started to take over the match. A running forearm downed Hara long enough for Misawa to lock in a modified cloverleaf for the win.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Genichiro Tenryu [8] defeated Dory Funk Jr. [4] in 25:34 by pinfall with a Powerbomb.

Both Tenryu and Funk kept it close in the first half of the match with both men failing to get a decent enough grasp of control of the match. Funk's technical prowess allowed him to gain control of the match around the 15-minute mark, but, Tenryu's pure grappling skill provided him the opportunity to escape and punish Funk with a various suplexes. Funk was able to drop Tenryu and locked in a Texas Cloverleaf on Tenryu just after the 20-minute mark of the match and nearly submitted Tenryu, but the homegrown star was able to reach a rope for the break. Funk continued his momentum through the rest of the match, but a strong forearm from Tenryu left Funk dazed enough to drop him with a Powerbomb.

TIEBREAKER: What will be the best match of these eight?

Booking/posting the Champion Carnival is fun, but, man, do I want to get back to the standard four TV tapings and a big event schedule.

Decent show, I was pretty far off with my predictions haha.

Just when they think they know the answers, I change the questions! ...or something like that, anyways.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, The Great Kabuki [2] defeated Atsushi Onita [4] in 13:59 by disqualification.

Onita headed into this week's opening match with a head of steam with two consecutive victories. With some unethical tactics being utilized in both of those matchups, why wouldn't he try the same thing against Kabuki? Unfortunately for Onita, Kyohei Wada wised up to Onita's antics this time around and caught the dojo grad blasting Kabuki across the forehead with a chain and called for the disqualification. Onita was bewildered at the call and pleaded his innocence to Wada, despite the assault being as clear as day.

In an exceptional match, Stan Hansen [7] defeated Chavo Guerrero [2] in 16:44 by pinfall with a Western Lariat.

Valiant as Guerrero's effort was, he just couldn't hold his own against the brute Hansen and was put down with a Lariat just after the 15-minute mark.

In an exceptional match, Terry Funk [6] defeated Masanobu Fuchi [6] in 17:16 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Fuchi's hot start to the Champion Carnival hit another bump with Funk grabbing his third victory of the tournament. The match stayed even throughout most of its duration, but Funk was able to string enough consecutive offense together to follow up with a Piledriver just after the 15-minute mark.

In a match with fantastic heat and great wrestling, Jumbo Tsuruta [7] drew with Harley Race [6] in 30:00 when the time limit expired.

Both of the singles champions in the promotion squared off in a great bout that showcased the best of both competitors. Notable was the fact that neither man was able to hit their respective finishing move on the other as both always found a way to escape from their respective opponent. Tsuruta opted for a more straightforward striking/grappling attack while Race's tactics led to him taking the match to the ground with some technical-style wrestling. With the draw, the landscape of the A Block in this year's Champion Carnival is looking extremely tight with two nights of round-robin competition left for the block.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Kodo Fuyuki [4] defeated Tiger Jeet Singh [0] in 12:05 by pinfall with a Fuyuki Special II.

Singh stayed point-less following this contest that Fuyuki maintained control of throughout.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, Ashura Hara [2] defeated Dory Funk Jr. [4] in 15:49 by submission after blatantly cheating.

Wada's eyes weren't as observant as they were on Night 9 as Hara got away with using the ropes for leverage for a pin on Funk. Funk was in thorough control of the match though, yet was struggling to get a Texas Cloverleaf locked in on Hara.

GSIlvuE.jpg?1A3LkYJG.pngYCmuFuO.jpg?1

In an exceptional match, Genichiro Tenryu [10] defeated Umanosuke Ueda [6] in 16:24 by pinfall with two Powerbombs in a row.

Tenryu made sure Ueda paid for the trouble he caused him over the last few months in this first one-on-one matchup between the two of them since Tenryu's injury. Ueda was able to get some offense early, but Tenryu was able to string together several high-angle slams before putting the blond-haired villain down with not just one, but two vicious Powerbombs. With the loss to Tenryu, Ueda found himself eliminated from B Block contention.

RATING: 83

**POST-MATCH**

Tenryu continued his assault on Ueda and ultimately had to be separated by several ringside attendants and several dojo students from the back. Tenyu finally relented from pursuing further attacks on the downed Ueda as he then headed to the back.

In an exceptional match, Giant Baba [9] drew with Mitsuharu Misawa [5] in 30:00 when the time limit expired.

With Tenryu's victory, Misawa needed a victory over Baba to make sure his tournament hopes stayed alive, however, Baba's stature proved to be quite the obstacle for the young Misawa. Misawa was able to get in a lot of offense against Baba - not that Baba didn't as well - but Baba's height advantage on Misawa prevented the youngster from being able to get a finishing move done, despite grounding him several times.

RATING: 73

**POST-MATCH**

After the match and after both men returned to their feet, Baba offered Misawa a handshake that was quickly accepted. Despite not being picked up by the ringside microphones, Baba was seen speaking into Misawa's ear with the youngster nodding at whatever the veteran was saying. After a pat on the shoulder from Baba, Misawa left the ring as Baba thanked the 2,000 in the venue for attending.
