“We're dead. We're dead and we can't get out of the line of fire.

We're dead. And we're just taking bullet after bullet after bullet after bullet... after all these years of hard work... and we're just watching somebody cannibalise us and we were powerless to do anything about it. We're spending ourselves into a hole just to provide the production values necessary to stay on the network. We have all these licenses and sponsors and advertisers that are staying with us because we're on national television - so we can't dump out of the deal - and they [TNN] are publicly negotiating with the WWF to bring that show onto their network! Just to throw us off!

The plan was to find a new network but we couldn't negotiate a new network because that would be in violation of our deal with TNN. So we're boxed into staying on TNN and we had to wait until they publicly declared their intention to cancel our show before we could even talk to anyone else. When we went into bankruptcy we were owed 2.8 million dollars by the Pay-Per-View companies. And they wouldn't even give us ten percent of our money. The Executive Vice President of InDemand said to me ‘If you don't get distribution we know you're going down and it's going to be cheaper for us to pay pennies on the dollar to a bankruptcy trustee than to just give you money now and bet you'll be around in six months.’

Had we gotten enough distribution we would've stayed in business and redefined the company. If we had the distribution we could have had the financing, but once you don't have that distribution, you're out of business. If we'd have gotten that 2.8 million dollars that could've carried us for years.”

- Paul Heyman

"A lot of people were owed a lot of money and Paul would say 'You're gonna get it, you're gonna get it.' Because we were. We were so close it was heartbreaking."

- Tommy Dreamer

“Paul would give us this speech like ‘We're gonna get a TV deal’ and ‘I'm going to California and doing this and this and this.’ In my heart I so wanted to believe him.

Nine o'clock my phone rang and it was Tommy and he said ‘I just want you to know Paul E's gonna be on Raw tonight’ and my heart dropped.”

<div style="font-weight:normal;text-align:left;"><div style="font:18px Calibri;">

The March 5, 2001 episode of WWF Raw Is War was memorable for very few reasons. None of the matches went beyond ten minutes, in fact Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero were given only four minutes in their Intercontinental title match. Similarly Matt and Jeff Hardy won the World Tag Team titles from The Dudley Boyz in five and a half. Nearly a quarter of an hour, however, was dedicated to Trish Stratus being made to crawl around and bark like a dog before stripping to her underwear for Mr McMahon.

Plenty of big names were on show: The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, Kane... The WWF was not short on star power that night in Washington DC. But one person was missing.

Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler’s resignation from the WWF was well known by now but his replacement was not. And it was only at the eleventh hour that Paul Heyman decided he could not take Vince McMahon up on his offer. Kevin Kelly took the seat next to Good Ol’ JR and fans in attendance and those watching at home knew no different. It was just another night.

For Paul E, however, things were getting interesting. Lawyers were talking. Suddenly InDemand were prepared to talk about settling their debt at a reduced cost. ECW didn’t have a TV show or a distributor but, crucially, there was now a cash flow. Heyman knew he would never get even a fraction of the 2.8 million dollars owed, but this was a lifeline. Extreme Championship Wrestling could not only be taken off life support, it could thrive.

The Hardcore Revolution had new life breathed into it. It would all begin again at the Hammerstein Ballroom on May 12… at Hardcore Heaven. </div>

This is a new diary from me after a short break.

Oddworld isn’t dead. It’s just… sleeping. The WCW one failed as it was too time consuming and I lost interest fairly quickly. This one will be a little different. Some effort has gone into the presentation but there will be no lengthy write ups or pictures for each match. The aim is to keep it brief and bite-size and hopefully easier to consume. A mini-diary, if you will. I hope you enjoy seeing my interpretation of where ECW could’ve gone in 2001 had they just had that last little thread of hope.

Thanks to anyone who reads this or Oddworld.

Count me in. Love the ECW! Did myself a save with the same starting position with TEW 16, loved it. Is there a good update out now to play 2001 in TEW 20?

Hopefully you won't hire any Indy-Darling from the scratch. I can see a bunch of guys playing a good role in an ECW:D

awesome to see this, Oddworld is one of my favourites and I know you're a big fan of ECW so will be great to see what you do with them.

If I'm honest when I stopped my DAVE diary I didn't really follow the boards for a while, and then when I came back I'm guilty of only really checking out 2020 boards, but it's great to see I've got lots of Oddworld to catch up on!

Thank you man. Really nice of you to say. Yeah, I love ECW. Got a few ideas lined up. And yeah, I'm out of touch with everyone's diaries at the minute as well. Never been active on the boards when a new game has been released before.

I like the presentation. I'm interested in seeing where you take ECW.

Thank you man. First time I've put a bit of effort into making a diary look nice.

Its good to see a lot of my ECW favourites and with a good authentic feel.

It will be interesting to see which absent or former ECW stars could be attracted to what would be the second biggest north American company at this point.

Thanks man. Authenticity was what I was going for. I was in two minds about bringing Brian Lee but thought it wasn't too much of a stretch.

Love me some Sandman :)

Yeah, me too.

Super excited for this, glad to see BC back where he belongs...at the helm of a group of miscreants and lowlifes.

What a lovely thing to say. And a huge compliment. Thank you!

looks great, I'm following. ECW my all time favorite promotion, i remember being around 10-11 and staying up to 2am on saturday night to have a chance to watch hardcore TV if it came on, half the time it didn't.

I'm sure you're gonna do a great job on this diary

Thanks man. I got into ECW fairly late on. I would've loved to have watched their glory years.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of The Styles Report with me, Joey Styles. We are hot off an historic moment for ECW with the return at Hardcore Heaven at the sold-out Hammerstein Ballroom. We crowned a new World Heavyweight champion in a gripping ladder match. The Sandman is now a six time ECW World champion and is set to make his first defence against ‘The King of Old School’ Steve Corino at our upcoming event, Hostile City Showdown, on June 16.

Sandman’s title win also saw the return of ‘Prime Time’ Brian Lee at the worst possible time for Tommy Dreamer. Lee sent ‘The Innovator of Violence’ crashing from a ladder with the title belt mere inches away from his grasp. I am told that Dreamer has had his request to face Lee granted by the ECW match-makers. This should be a brutal battle between old foes.

We will also find out who the next ECW World Television champion is going to be. A four way match is scheduled between ‘The Enforcer’ CW Anderson, Kid Kash, Mikey Whipwreck and Nova. And if that wasn’t enough Doring and Roadkill are set to defend their ECW World Tag Team titles against Simon and Swinger. Dawn Marie knows all about managing tag team champions and has promised that her charges will be leaving with the gold.

More matches to be announced as we edge closer to June 16 and our return to the Hammerstein Ballroom for Hostile City Showdown. You do not want to miss this. Contact the ECW ticket-line or head to extremechampionshipwrestling.com.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another edition of The Styles Report with me, Joey Styles. After a whirlwind of fortune that has seen ECW rise from the grave, we returned for a second time to the Hammerstein Ballroom for Hostile City Showdown. Let me tell you, the fans in attendance were just as nuts as any we have ever had – the hostility was all in the ring. Speaking of hostile, New Jack has confirmed he was due to finish up at that event but he’ll be coming back for one more match… and that he has something special planned for Hot Commodity.

Also at Showdown we crowned a new ECW World Television champion. Kid Kash won a well deserved battle and is set to make his first defence against Nova at our next event Heatwave on July 21. Another highlight was Super Crazy versus Little Guido. Crazy edged it on the night but both men have requested a rematch. The office has responded and agreed.

The double main event at Hostile City Showdown saw Sandman successfully defend his ECW World Heavyweight title against Steve Corino and Brian Lee survive a bloody onslaught from Tommy Dreamer to eke out a victory with a hellacious Chokeslam. Heatwave will see all four men back in the top spot in a six man tag – The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer and Mikey Whipwreck will take on Steve Corino, Brian Lee and CW Anderson.

We are one week away from Heatwave. If you haven’t got your ticket already… what the hell are you waiting for?! Get onto the ECW ticket-line or online at extremechampionshipwrestling.com. Staten Island Pavilion, NY. July 21. ECW Heatwave 2001.

- Joey

<p>As a big ECW fan who had all the PPVs on VHS I like this diary. To be fair, given the fun I had reading Oddsworld, you could write anything and I'd give it a go.</p><p> </p><p>

Are Rhino, Justin Credible, Taijiri, Blue Meanie, Lynn signed elsewhere? I take it RVD is mad at Paul E for the 100k he owed him?</p><p> </p><p>

Most importantly... where is Jack Victory?! lol</p>

This'll be a little different than Oddworld - a lot more stripped down. Hopefully still entertaining. Thanks for reading.</p><p> </p><p> Rhino, Credible, RVD, Tajiri, Lynn... they're all in the ungrateful arms of Vince, being buried as he sees fit. Lance Storm as well. *weeps* This is ECW from the ashes, literally saved from bankruptcy at the eleventh hour. WCW are dead. The Invasion PPV went ahead. Meanwhile I'm working with what's left.</p><p> </p><p> Where is Jack Victory? Strangely, you're the first to mention it...</p>
