Kyoto, Japan - Independent professional wrestling company Black Canvas Grappling have ended the year 2020 with a title defence by BCG World Heavyweight Champion Nichiren Funakoshi at the New Year's Eve Supershow in what is already considered one of the company's greatest matches. After almost 37 minutes Funakoshi was able to defeat his latest challenger Razan Okamoto, who is also his right hand in Funakoshi-gun. This victory put the champion in a favourable position to break the record reign of BCG and GCG legend Pistol Pete Hall of 516 days - but now it is said Pistol Pete Hall who might put a spoke in his wheel.

In a special press conference the APWA Representative has arranged a double title match for the upcoming New Year Super Series with BCG Owner Yoshifusa Maeda. BCG World Heavyweight Champion Nichiren Funakoshi will be facing off with APWA International Heavyweight Champion Big Bruiser Findlay at the final show of the tour. Funakoshi is having arguably the best run of his career at the moment, but the big man from the United States is an unpredictable and extremely dangerous opponent. Both men attended the press conference and signed the contract paper to seal the bout.

Other than that, Maeda has announced growth plans for BCG for 2021 as part of the press conference. The company is ogling with a pay-per-view deal in order to broaden their audience in Japan and is already in negotiations according to Maeda with news to be expected in the coming months.

Mabuchi Furusawa & Ryunosuke Matsuki © vs. Noritoshi Miura & Inejiro Yoshizawa

Noritoshi Miura and Inejiro Yoshizawa have held the titles on the line today for five times in the past and are currently considered the most successful tag team of Black Canvas Grappling. Yet they have joined Yasuhiko Taira's rebel group NEO X ULTIMA in the course of this tour with the explanation, that they never felt quite accepted by the BCG audience and the roster as one of their own. On the other hand we have two reigning champions, who never even wanted to be part of BCG, but seized any opportunity to distance themselves from the company and emphasize their GCG background. Two outsider teams battling it our for the BCG World Tag Team titles. Miura and Yoshizawa have not only changed their appearance, but also their style - just like their leader they were fighting at the edge of legality, using every advantage presented to them during the match. They were visibly straining the nerves of the Money Makers with this approach. Still, Furusawa and Matsuki managed to turn the match around and to defeat Noritoshi Miura & Inejiro Yoshizawa after (25m36s) when Mabuchi Furusawa submitted Inejiro Yoshizawa with a Furusawa Armbar. Toshiharu Hyobanshi © vs. Yasuhiko Taira

On the New Year Super Series tour Hyobanshi and Taira have been constantly fighting with each other or their respective faction members, with the Money Makers having a slight advantage over newly founded NEO X ULTIMA. It was not long ago that both men still worked for Burning Hammer Of The Wrestling Gods, where they were unable to build on old successes. Now in BCG they went straight for the title picture and quickly established themselves as two of the best wrestlers. Both men are known for their intimidating height and weight, neither of them has lost any of his former appeal. Their match was filled with strike exchanges, heavy hits, Lariats and strength competitions, before they went into an ending phase that had both men work towards their finishing moves. In this final duel Toshiharu Hyobanshi got the better of Yasuhiko Taira after (31m02s), when he hit the Nova Bomb Redux for the pinfall victory. [71]

Nichiren Funakoshi © [bCG] vs. Big Bruiser Findlay © [APWA]

It was exactly one year ago that the APWA International Heavyweight title has been fought out for the first time - now, for the first time, the title is part of a unification match. The two competitors have faced off as part of the Ace Summit IX past year in April, where Funakoshi got the better of Findlay. APWA representative Pistol Pete Hall was personally at the commentary table for tonight's match. This double title match told the age old story between good and evil in epic proportions and several phases. It began with the monstrous American beating down on his smaller opponent ruthlessly, bullying the Ace of BCG and almost toying with him at some point. It went on with Funakoshi slowly gaining momentum with Strikes, Kicks and an indelible Fighting Spirit, before the BCG Champion send Findlay onto the mats for the first time with a third Lariat, after two had him only staggering. From that point on the match went into a long phase characterized by a technical and submission-based approach rarely seen by Funakoshi, who tried to destroy the right leg of a Big Bruiser, who suddenly found himself in a situation he is not used to - below his opponent! When the match had already passed the 40 minute mark and after Findlay enduring several leg-based submission moves both men went into an ending phase, where they tried to finish each other off with sheer brutality. After a brawl around the ring, Findlay hammered Funakoshi's head into the bare concrete with a Tombstone Piledriver, whereas Funakoshi later on hit the Butterfly Backbreaker from the second rope. Still, neither of the two wanted to lose this match and so it ended in a time limit draw after (60m00s). [86]
