CM Punk has returned to professional wrestling. After weeks of intense speculation, the big reveal was everything a wrestling fan dreamed of. The worst kept secret in wrestling, the rumors of CM Punk allowed AEW to sell out the United Center before anything was announced. As soon as Cult of Personality hit, the 15,000 strong in Chicago gave CM Punk one of the loudest pops in the history of the industry. Punk talked about his journey, and mentioned that in August 2005, he left professional wrestling, and now in September 2021, he is back. Before leaving, he called out Darby Allin, who was hanging out in the rafters with Sting. He challenged Darby to a match on the first ever episode of AEW Rampage on Friday Week 1, October 2021. With a sly smile, it was clear that Darby had accepted.

1. Motor City Machine Guns def. Private Party - The Machine Guns are back in business. One of the most legendary tag teams in American wrestling faced one of AEW's brightest young teams, a duo that often gets compared to MCMG. Although it was even throughout, MCMG hit the Made In Detroit for the pinfall.

Backstage, Alex Marvez stood by with the AEW World Tag Team Champion Young Bucks and asked them about the Motor City Machine Guns. Matt Jackson stated that MCMG is sooo last decade, and the Machine Guns are irrelevant anyway, because everything they did, the Bucks did better. Everything they wanted to do but couldn't, the Bucks got it done. Before any more could be said, Santana & Ortiz came into frame. Santana mentioned that they won the Tag Team Casino Battle Royale at All Out, and that means they get a title shot. Ortiz said they don't plan on waiting, because they are getting the match in their hometown: New York City at AEW Grand Slam in two weeks! Matt and Nick protested but Santana & Ortiz walked away with grins on their faces.

2. Team Taz (Jacob Fatu & Will Hobbs) def. The Gunn Brothers - It was pretty much a massacre, as Fatu and Hobbs decimated the brothers here. Not much else to be said.

Post match, Taz and HOOOOOOK came to the ring. Taz noted that Brian Cage is still in possession of the FTW Championship, a title that belongs to Team Taz. Taz asked Cage to come out here so they could talk man to man. Cage came out onto the stage with the FTW title. He said that he beat Jacob Fatu clean as a whistle at All Out, and he already defended it against Will Hobbs, and Starks hasn't been around because of his broken neck, so who's next? Taz slyly responded that he's glad he asked, because with Brian Cage looking at the men in the ring, Ricky Starks appeared behind him and decked him in the back of the head with his gold chain. Ricky Starks picked up the microphone that Cage was using and declared that he has been medically cleared, and the first match he wants is with Brian Cage for the FTW title!

Jade Cargill and Smart Mark Sterling cut a promo, with Sterling mentioning that Jade defeated former AEW Women's World Champion Hikaru Shida at All Out. After running through Shida and her friends, Riho and Yuka Sakazaki, Sterling is taking offers for bigger matches for his client. Matches that will pay more, and maybe matches that will bring her championship gold.

3. NWA WORLD WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP: Thunder Rosa © def. Kamille - The NWA's Kamille came to AEW in an attempt to bring her company's belt back full-time, but she came up short against the white hot Thunder Rosa. Rosa is quickly becoming one of the most over acts in all of AEW regardless of gender, and that was proven once again as she defeated Kamille clean in the ring to a huge pop from the crowd in Chicago.

Before Thunder Rosa could celebrate, she was attacked by Nyla Rose. Nyla hoisted her up and hit her with a powerbomb, before hoisting her up and hitting her with a second as well. Vickie Guerrero screeched into the microphone that if the office won't give them any opportunities, they will just take them themselves.

New AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page came to the ring, flanked by the Dark Order. Hangman thanked the fans for supporting him, and for always believing in him even when he didn't believe in himself. He said he learned that sometimes, you just have to cut out the bad influences in your life, and replace them with people who want to see you succeed. After being walked on by the Elite for so long, he found true friends in the Dark Order. He individually thanked every member, and noted that without them, he wouldn’t be standing here as the AEW World Champion, the prize he promised himself he would win way back in the inaugural AEW press conference. He again thanked the fans and said that he will be the champion they all deserve.

4. TNT CHAMPIONSHIP: Miro © def. Frankie Kazarian - Kazarian's momentum was halted here as he fell to Miro's Game Over. He gave Miro one of his greatest challenges yet, but it still wasn't enough to come out on top.

As Miro basked in His glory, a hooded and masked man ran in and hit Miro across the back with a steel chair, knocking him to his hands and knees before continuously hitting him over and over with the chair. Miro laid broken as the man took off his disguise: KIP SABIAN! Kip is back, and is furious over being put on the shelf by Miro all those months ago.

Backstage, Darby Allin, flanked by Sting, Lance Archer and Jake Roberts, cut a promo. He said that three years ago, he wouldn't have ever guessed that he would be surrounded by legends like Sting and Jake Roberts, allied with a monster like Lance Archer, and challenged by the Best in the World, CM Punk. He said he respects Punk for getting himself in good mindstate after what he had to endure seven years ago. But, he said Punk might not be fully aware of what he is getting himself into. Darby noted that this is the biggest match of his career, and on the first episode of Rampage, he will make himself a household name by defeating CM Punk in his return match.

The announce team ran down next week's card:

Darby Allin & Lance Archer vs. 2point0

Big Swole vs. Riho

TH2 vs. Motor City Machine Guns

TNT Championship: Miro © vs. Kip Sabian

The Elite (Kenny Omega/Good Brothers) vs. Hangman Adam Page, Pac & Frankie Kazarian

Plus, Eddie Kingston in action, Jon Moxley makes an announcement, and Andrade El Idolo & Thea Trinidad have something to say.

5. Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston def. MJF & Shawn Spears - After making his triumphant return at All Out, Jon Moxley pinned the Chairman Shawn Spears in a barnburner of a main event. MJF played the weasel role to perfection, always tagging out whenever he had the slightest issue with King or Mox. The finish came when Kingston hit an Exploder on MJF on the outside as Moxley locked Spears in a Bulldog Choke, forcing him to tap out. Moxley and Kingston celebrated together to end the post-All Out episode of Dynamite.

Excellent show, it nicely set up the next few weeks.

Santana and Ortiz vs. The Bucks in Arthur Ashe makes perfect sense. So much so that I'd expect Santana and Ortiz to win!

The timing is interesting, in having Punk debut after All Out so his first match is on Rampage. Should pop a big rating!

Miro vs. Kip should be fun; curious to see how you book Kip here.

Glad to see MCMG sticking around and winning!

Curious to see who's next/first for Hangman.

Thanks broski! Big plans ahead~!

Santana and Ortiz getting their match in NYC is just *chef's kiss*. I want it to happen IRL so bad.

As Tony Khan reiterated today in his Wrestling Observer Radio interview, AEW is a TV company. First episode of AEW Rampage (in this game) should be headlined by a big match.

Miro vs. Kip should be fun; curious to see how you book Kip here.

Will Kip be forgiven?

Glad to see MCMG sticking around and winning!

MCMG deserve to be in AEW, IMO.

Curious to see who's next/first for Hangman.

Hangman's title run is going to be extremely fun to book!

Thanks for the feedback and for sticking around! Always nice to have someone point out specific happenings!

  • 3 weeks later...

This will be returning!

I got carried away and booked up through February in-game, now I just have to play catch up with writing. Some of the happenings in AEW that have occurred in the last three weeks also occurred in this game, albeit with completely different outcomes.

And as a refresher since it's been awhile, here are some key aspects that are different in this thread than in real life:

  1. Malakai Black never debuted in AEW, since this started in June and he debuted in July IRL.
  2. The main event of All Out 2021 saw Hangman Page defeat Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship
  3. CM Punk debuted on the first Dynamite post-All Out in a very similar fashion to IRL: everyone know it was going to happen. In this timeline, Punk challenged Darby for the first episode of Rampage
  4. Speaking of Rampage, the first episode will debut Week 1 of October, and will be main evented by Punk vs. Darby
  5. Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole have NOT debuted in AEW

I also recommend everyone give this a skim to catch up with the other events that have happened, as to not confuse them with IRL AEW or the other awesome AEW diaries that have started in recent weeks!

AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam is one week away. Last week's Dynamite, the All Out Fall Out show, saw the amazing return of CM Punk to professional wrestling. The announce team ran down this week's card, main evented by The Elite trio of Kenny Omega, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows taking on Hangman Page, PAC and Frankie Kazarian.

1. TNT Championship: Miro © def. Kip Sabian - Kip Sabian has been redeemed. Although Kip had a few hope spots, Miro absolutely dismantled him. Before putting him in the Game Over, Miro told Kip he forgave him. Brutal.

Sting and Darby Allin cut a promo from the back. Darby said that the last two years have been a fever dream. From being signed to AEW, to winning the TNT Championship, to teaming with Sting, to being challenged by CM Punk in Punk's return to pro wrestling. Darby said that it will be an honor to face Punk on the first episode of AEW Rampage on the first Friday of October, but told Punk that he felt a little insulted with the challenge. Darby said he is not a launching pad for Punk; he will be ready to ruin his comeback.

2. Darby Allin & Lance Archer def. 2point0 - 2point0 had called out Darby and Lance on Twitter after being signed to AEW by Tony Khan. They had a good showing here, but in the end a Blackout followed by a Coffin Drop put away Jeff Parker.

FTR, flanked by Tully Blanchard, cut a pre-recorded promo. They said that the last two months have been rough for them. They lost to Santana & Ortiz in both tag team and trios matches. Harwood said they would be taking a sabbatical from AEW to find themselves once again. Wheeler announced that you could find them in Atlanta, GA, back to where tag team wrestling became what it is today. Back to where Tully Blanchard made his mark on professional wrestling. FTR is headed to the National Wrestling Alliance.

Jon Moxley came to the ring, flaunting his IWGP United States Championship. He told the crowd that 18 months ago in Tokyo, he regained this title from Lance Archer in a Texas Death Match. Ever since that day, he took on whatever New Japan Pro Wrestling wanted to throw at him. He beat KENTA, he beat Yuji Nagata, and now he is ready to beat whoever else they throw at him. He doesn't care who it is, this belt ain't leaving his shoulder. In two weeks on AEW Dynamite, he will be defending the title.

3. Riho def. Big Swole - Riho is about as over as it gets with the live crowd. In just over seven minutes, she defeated Big Swole clean with her running knee. Yuka Sakazaki and Hikaru Shida celebrated with her after the match.

Ricky Starks along the rest of Team Taz (Taz, Will Hobbs, Jacob Fatu, HOOOOOOOK) cut a backstage promo. Starks said that Brian Cage has an item that belongs in Team Taz: the FTW Championship. He knows that he beat Fatu at All Out, but it's time for Cage to give it up. Next week, Brian Cage will have to deal with the Stroke Daddy himself, Absolute Ricky Starks. And the FTW title was coming home in seven days.

Thea Trinidad came to the ring to introduce Andrade El Idolo. She recalled Andrade's victory over Cody Rhodes at All Out, and said that Andrade cannot be stopped. He came to AEW to prove he is the best, and he has already cut off the head of the snake in Cody Rhodes. Before she could say much else, Where Is My Mind hit and Orange Cassidy came out. He entered the ring and stood face to face with Andrade, who was wearing a full suit and clearly expensive sunglasses. Orange took off his own sunglasses, grabbed Andrade's and put them on his face. Orange then gave him the faux kicks, leading to Andrade taking a swing that Orange ducked. A quick hurricanrana from Orange sent Andrade to the outside as Orange carefully removed Andrade's sunglasses, gently placed them on the ground and kicked them to the outside where Thea grabbed them.

4. Motor City Machine Guns def. TH2 - The Machine Guns had a great showing in the Tag Team Casino Battle Royale at All Out, made their Dynamite debut last week against Private Party and now here face off against Jack Evans and Angelico. These four men have had battles in many companies, but here in AEW MCMG would come out on top.

CM Punk came to the ring to an absolutely monstrous reaction from the crowd. Punk thanked the crowd for sticking by him during his time away. Now that he is back, he is ready to take on the best that the wrestling world has to offer. That includes Darby Allin. He looked up to the rafters and saw Darby and Sting. He told Darby that he is not overlooking him. The reason he challenged Darby is because he knew he needed to challenge himself. Darby is as big of a challenge as it gets. Come AEW Rampage, they will go to war, and Punk will prove that he is still the Best in the World.

5. Eddie Kingston def. Michael Nakazawa - A super quick squash.

Post match, TNT Champion Miro came to the ramp with a microphone. He said he sees how Eddie acts every week in the ring. Next week, he will redeem Eddie Kingston in New York City. Eddie grabbed a microphone and simply stated, "Hey Miro, redeem deez nuts!" Eddie's music played as Miro stared at him with a small smirk.

AEW Women's World Champion Britt Baker was backstage with Tony Schiavone. She stated that she is quickly running out of opponents in AEW. She is at the mountaintop in AEW, and there is nothing any woman in AEW can do to stop her…

The announce team ran down the card for next week's Dynamite: Grand Slam, which will take place in front of 20,000 rabid New Yorkers.

FTW Championship: Brian Cage © vs. Ricky Starks

Julia Hart vs. Jade Cargill

TNT Championship: Miro © vs. Eddie Kingston

Riho & Yuka Sakazaki vs. Serena Deeb & The Bunny

AEW World Tag Team Championships: The Young Bucks © vs. Santana & Ortiz

6. Hangman Page, PAC & Frankie Kazarian def. The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers) - A barnburner of a main event. The loose alliance of anti-Elite wrestlers come out on top again. Omega went at it with both PAC and Hangman throughout, two showdowns that elicited major reactions from the crowd. The finish came when Hangman hit a Buckshot on both Anderson and Gallows, as Kazarian hit Omega with a Slingshot DDT. PAC went to the top and hit Omega with a Red Arrow and got the pinfall. PAC has pinned the former AEW World Champion.

The three victors stood tall as the announce team hyped up the audience for next week's special, AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in front of 19,000 screaming fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
