What are the time limits for AGWA matches?

Depending on the match and the event, for most TV tapings, the time limit for regular matches would be 10 minutes, while for house show events and for the Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament, regular matches would have a 20-minute time limit.  For all AGWA events, championship matches would have time limits of between 30-45 minutes.

Meanwhile back in Canada, even though they were not taking part in the Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament events, Shirley Hardman and Diane Syverson, two of Mae Young's clients in the Queen's Court, were keeping busy as they did battle with two of Renée Martel's friends and allies across Western Canada, including in this event:

Thanks to defending Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament champion Renée Martel being forced to drop out of this year's edition of the tournament thanks to the Machiavellian manipulations of Sir Robin Ascott, wrestling pundits have begun speculating about it now being a tossup as to who will win the third annual tournament and have begun making predictions on that basis.  On that note, the updated tournament bracket for Night Three of Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament III on January 28 is now up:

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament III - Night Three @ Anaheim Convention Center Arena
January 28, 1969 - Anaheim, California
Attendance - 7,182

spacer.png

NOTE: Highlights from these matches were taped to air on AGWA Women's Pro Wrestling on the weekend of February 1.

Dark match

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Ashley Sinclair defeated France Gall when Sinclair used a schoolgirl pin (with aid from grabbing a handful of Gall's tights for illegal leverage) to get the win.  During the match, Sir Robin Ascott showed up at ringside to do some scouting of the participants; Gall had taken the upper hand late in the bout after fighting back from behind against Sinclair when she spotted Ascott and started yelling at him in French, allowing Sinclair to take advantage of the distraction and get the tainted pinfall, after which she obnoxiously gloated at Gall and teased her over the loss.

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament, West Division - Quarterfinals

spacer.pngspacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Margot Bouchard (with "The Queen" Mae Young) took tournament favorite Joyce Fowler out of the running when she used a spinebuster slam out of nowhere to get the three-count and advance to the semifinals.  Following the match, Dick Lane came to ringside to interview Bouchard, who bragged about her win over Fowler and declared that she was now one step closer to claiming the glory in the tournament and would be ready to face whoever her semifinal opponent was next week in Los Angeles and make short work of her en route to the final and then the Burke Invitational Trophy and a shot at Joan Weston and her NWA North American Women's title.

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament, West Division - Quarterfinals

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Earlene Brown overpowered Judy Sowinski and got the win when she big-splashed and pinned Sowinski to advance to the semifinals.  Post-match, Margot Bouchard came out to ringside and got Brown's attention, telling the ex-Olympian to get ready for the semifinals next week, adding that like last year, she would get past Brown and get to the final with ease; Brown took exception to Bouchard's boasting and argued with her for a moment before the cocky Bouchard made her way back to the locker room area while continuing her taunts.

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Ann Casey made her return, now being billed as the AGWA Interstate Champion*, as she defeated hotshot heel Tonette Kadrmas by pinfall in a non-title match after taking her down with an airplane spin.  Sir Robin Ascott made another appearance at ringside during the match for another scouting mission as he watched Casey and Kadrmas in action while standing in the aisle.

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament, East Division - Quarterfinals

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Jane O'Brien defeated Valerie Blackard by pinfall following a powerslam.  Post-match, O'Brien demanded the arena microphone and told everyone listening in the arena that she intended to plow her way through the rest of the field on her way to winning the Burke Invitational Trophy, then win the North American title from Joan Weston and send her into retirement after beating her to within an inch of the ICU at the nearest hospital, a boast which did not go over well with the fans in attendance as they booed O'Brien.

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament, East Division - Quarterfinals

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Ann Calvello defeated former Queen's Court stablemate Georgia Hase (with Mae Young) by pinfall in a wild contest after knocking Hase to the canvas with a leg lariat.  In a post-match interview with Dick Lane, Calvello stated she was looking forward to facing Jane O'Brien next week in the semifinals to put her shoulders to the mat for the pin, then face whoever won between Margot Bouchard and Earlene Brown for bragging rights and a shot at Joan Weston's North American belt.

California Women's Championship

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Renée Martel got her shot at California Champion Betty Niccoli as the action was hot and heavy from the opening bell, with Martel using her scientific repetorie and a few dropkicks to take the upper hand early on before Niccoli seized control with roughhouse tactics after Renée missed with a dropkick.  The match quickly progressed into a battle of punches and chops, but throughout this slugfest, each woman was able to attempt particular finishing maneuvers.  Niccoli used a Boston crab, but Renée escaped by making it to the ropes.  Renée executed a flying forearm smash off the ropes after reclaiming the advantage, but Niccoli was able to kick out from the resulting pin attempt after the two-count.  Finally, Renée applied a figure-four leglock, but as she had the maneuver locked on, Sir Robin Ascott showed up at ringside for the third time and began taunting the Canadian challenger; Renée let go of the hold and got up to argue with Ascott over his hand in her removal from the Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament last week, allowing Niccoli to take advantage of the situation and throw the distracted Martel over the top rope, thus resulting in Renée winning the match via disqualification but Niccoli retaining her belt due to the DQ.  Ascott gloated over the match's outcome as he rubbed it in Martel's face, but a displeased Renée got up, went to grab an empty folding chair from ringside and used it to chase Ascott off, then she went back in the ring and ran Niccoli off as well before she grabbed the arena mic and berated Ascott for costing her the opportunity for championship gold.

* The AGWA Interstate Championship was recently created to serve as the AGWA's top promotion-owned singles title; although the NWA North American and United States Women's titles are higher on the championship totem pole and are currently under AGWA control, the latter two titles are intended to be fought for by all contenders in all NWA member promotions as well as in non-NWA promotions when requested, while the Interstate title is promotion-specific.  Ann Casey, who was billed as the champion upon her return to the AGWA after a recent cross-country tour, was billed as having won the title in a tournament in Tampa, Florida earlier in the month before arriving with the title belt.

what is the purpose of the Shooting Star title? Is it for young wrestlers or wrestlers of a certain weight class? Does it give the champion a wish of their choice?

As mentioned in this link, the Shooting Star title will be for the younger wrestlers (as its real-life equivalents the AJW Junior title and the Future of Stardom title were/are intended to be).  As for giving the titleholder a wish of their choice (like the Money in the Bank briefcase in WWE IRL), that could be a possibility...  🤔

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament III - Night Four @ Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena
February 4, 1969 - Los Angeles, California
Attendance - 15,940

spacer.png

Aired the weekend of February 8, 1969 on AGWA Women's Pro Wrestling:

10-woman battle royal for the AGWA Shooting Star Championship

spacer.pngspacer.png
Ashley Sinclair last eliminated Vivian Vance to win a battle royal to become the first AGWA Shooting Star Champion*, but her victory did not come without controversy; although she managed to last to the end of the match, she skated her way through by avoiding contact with the other participants as much as possible and ducking through the ropes to rest at ringside as part of that strategy, enabling her to take advantage when, after Vance had tossed Tonette Kadrmas over the top rope and seemingly won the battle royal, Sinclair, who had earlier ducked out to ringside to hide out, ran back in, caught Vance by surprise and threw her over the top rope to take the tainted win and the title (other participants in the match, in order of elimination, were Gwen Miller, Barbara Jacobs, Texas Red, Irma Acevedo, Lynn Congleton, Sylvia Hackney and Colleen Murrell).  Right after Sinclair was handed the Shooting Star title belt, Sir Robin Ascott made his way to the ring, then took the arena microphone and congratulated Sinclair on winning the title, then announced that he was Sinclair's new manager, having recently signed her as his first client, while the fans booed both Ascott and Sinclair.

spacer.pngspacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Baby Rocco (with "The Queen" Mae Young) used her size advantage to toy with France Gall while roughing her up during their match at Young's urging, even resorting to a bit of sadism as, every time she went for what seemed a sure pinfall on Gall, Rocco would pull France back up by her hair after the two-count and say she was not done with her yet, drawing rebukes from the referee for her unsportsmanlike actions.  Eventually, Rocco signaled to the crowd and went for the big splash, bringing her 225 pounds down on the slender France, then got back up and put a foot on Gall's chest for an arrogant pin cover and scored the three-count for the win - but she was not done yet as she continued to abuse Gall post-match, even as the ref threatened to reverse his original decision and disqualify her; in response, Rocco smacked the referee down to the mat and signaled a threat to go for a second big splash on Gall, but that plan got spoiled when Earlene Brown and Renée Martel charged out to the ring and chased Rocco out for the save.

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament, West Division - Semifinals

spacer.pngspacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
In a rematch from last year's semifinals, Margot Bouchard (with Mae Young) again did battle with Earlene Brown - and like the last time, the 250-pound Brown dominated her smaller opponent in the early stages, prompting Young to get involved by distracting the referee, which allowed Bouchard to deliver an eye rake to Brown and take the boots to her as she took advantage with roughhouse tactics while taunting Brown and keeping out of her reach to keep the ex-Olympian from getting to her.  As Bouchard was about to strike again with another boot, Brown caught her foe's right foot in her hands and flipped her to the mat, then began battling back and got Margot backpedaling as the fans rooted Brown on.  In desperation when she saw Bouchard in trouble, Young started gesturing toward the curtain at the end of the aisle leading to the locker room area, and moments later, Baby Rocco came running out to ringside and began taunting Brown, who caught sight of her archrival and went out to ringside to start arguing with her, not paying attention as the referee began counting Brown out.  Words between the two big women got heated and it soon erupted into a brawl around ringside, which kept Brown out long enough to get counted out when the ref called for the bell and declared Bouchard the winner on the basis of the countout, which did not sit well with the fans as they began booing Bouchard while Brown, displeased over again being eliminated from the tournament by Bouchard by crooked means, chased Rocco back to the locker room area.  In a post-match interview with Dick Lane, Bouchard gloated about once again getting the better of Brown in the tournament like she did last year, then declared that she was now one step away from claiming glory now that she was in the final and that, regardless of who she faced, nothing would stand between her and the Mildred Burke Invitational Trophy and a shot at Joan Weston.

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament, East Division - Semifinals

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Ann Calvello was kept on the defensive for much of her match against the younger and aggressive Jane O'Brien, who was determined to become the other finalist in the tournament as she hammered away at the veteran grappler, but Calvello would not be denied on this night as she fought back and eventually finished O'Brien off with a leg lariat to get the pin and advance to the final.

Aired the weekend of February 15, 1969 on AGWA Women's Pro Wrestling:

AGWA Interstate Championship

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Ann Casey (C) put her title on the line against Judy Sowinski.  Casey had control of the bout early until Sowinski tossed Casey out of the ring and threw her to the ringside floor.  Sowinski climbed back into the ring bringing Casey with her and put her in a sleeperhold.  After two minutes with Casey almost under, the champion elbowed her way out, whipped Sowinski to the ropes, hoisted her over her shoulders on the rebound and delivered her airplane spin finisher before putting Sowinski's shoulders to the canvas for the three-count to retain her title.

NWA United States Women's Tag Team Championship - Two out of Three Falls

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Joyce Fowler & Renée Martel defeated Jane Sherill & Patty O'Hara (C) by disqualification in the third fall after each team had scored a fall when, as Renée had O'Hara caught in the Alligator Clutch, two women, both dressed like hippies, suddenly jumped from front row ringside where they had been sitting and ran into the ring, with one of the hippie girls attacking Martel while the other one went after Fowler as the challengers were beaten down by the interlopers and tossed from the ring.  After leaving Fowler and Martel laying in heaps, the hippie girls then turned their attention to Sherill and O'Hara, who had been standing out at ringside after bailing out during the earlier melee, and threw some choice words at the champions (who retained their belts despite the DQ), who retaliated by yelling back at the hippie girls for ruining the match and dared them to come out and say what they said earlier to their faces.  The fans, who were wondering what the deal was with the two hippie girls, soon got their questions answered the moment Sir Robin Ascott, now carrying a briefcase with him, put in another appearance and demanded the arena microphone to address the crowd:

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

SIR ROBIN ASCOTT:  Well now, good people, you must all be wondering what brings me out here once again tonight.  Although I really don't consider it any of your concern...  (Pauses for a moment as some booing is heard from the crowd)  ...I do consider it in the good interests of you, the unwashed masses here tonight, to have the answers you seek.  These two young ladies of the flower child persuasion you see standing here with me now, the very same ladies you saw make examples of those peons Joyce Fowler and Renée Martel...  (Pauses again as the fans let Ascott have it with another round of boos)  ...are my two newest signees, a pair of faces I guarantee you'll never forget.  May I introduce to you now, Sister Lavender... (Indicating the blonde hippie girl) ...and Sister Serenity... (Indicating the dark-haired hippie girl) ...the Sisters of Love!**  (More booing from the fans)  Might I also add, they do not just come here as just any old ordinary girl wrestlers either, as they come to this promotion as champions!  They recently won a tournament in that atrocious redneck backwater of Atlanta, Georgia to become the first Interstate Tag Team Champions, and they now come to this promotion to defend their title against any challengers they deem fit to defend against - and in fact, right here in this very briefcase, I carry with me the championship belts that represent those titles.  (Ascott opens the briefcase and takes out a pair of championship belts, which he then hands to each of the Sisters of Love)  Now, if I may add, these, my newest champions who are also practitioners of peace and the philosophy of non-violence, join my Shooting Star Champion, the one and only Ashley Sinclair, in the establishment of my new dynasty, a group that will make its presence felt here in this company, now and into the future - the Ascott Dynasty!  Now, if you will, you may show them the respect that they desire and deserve.

The fans then proceeded to do exactly that as they booed the Sisters of Love while each of them held up their Interstate Tag Team title belts and paraded them around - but Fowler and Martel, who had time to recover during Ascott's speech, seized the opportunity, ran back into the ring and delivered dropkicks that sent Lavender and Serenity sprawling out of the ring to the loud cheers of the fans.  As a clearly displeased Ascott looked on in disbelief after he bailed out of the ring, Joyce and Renée acknowledged the positive response from the crowd while they taunted the hippie girls and told off their flamboyant manager.

NWA United States Women's Championship

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Judy Arnold (C) overcame a two-on-one disadvantage against Georgia Hase and manager Mae Young as she defeated Hase by pinfall to retain her belt after taking her down with a sunset flip.

Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament - Final

spacer.pngspacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
The long-anticipated final got underway as Margot Bouchard (with Mae Young) clashed with former Queen's Court stablemate Ann Calvello, who has had the fans' support since being unceremoniously tossed from the heel stable last fall after losing the AGWA United States Championship to Yukiko Tomoe (who continues to defend that title where it is now stationed, in All Japan Women's Pro Wrestling).

Bouchard was frustrated early on by her veteran opponent.  Calvello evaded Bouchard’s lunges at her, but when they finally locked up, Bouchard’s nearly 20-pound size advantage was the factor.  Bouchard twice lifted up Calvello by her throat, throwing her down to the mat like a rag doll.  In the midst of the action, Young barked instructions to her client but did not interfere.  In the ring, Calvello attempted a bodypress, but Bouchard caught him in mid-air and used the momentum to deliver a punishing powerslam.  Bouchard whipped Calvello hard into the corner and lunged at her, but Calvello moved out of the way at the last moment.  Calvello delivered two dropkicks that sent Bouchard reeling.  Calvello then superkicked her foe to the mat and covered her for a pin attempt.  At that point, Young distracted the referee.  Then Bouchard distracted the ref while Young yanked Calvello’s legs out from underneath him and pulled her out to the floor.

While outside the ring,  Calvello went after her ex-manager, but Bouchard stopped that effort by attacking her from behind.  Later, as Bouchard had Calvello dazed and as she distracted the ref again, Young again got involved, this time by landing an elbowdrop.  Bouchard went for a pinfall attempt, but Calvello kicked out, marking the beginning of Calvello’s rally.  She was barely fazed by Bouchard’s subsequent punches and soon maneuvered her into a sleeperhold.  Young then jumped onto the apron and started yelling at Calvello, who released the hold.  Calvello then pushed Young off the apron and turned around to charge at Bouchard again, only to get caught with a spinebuster slam out of nowhere.  Bouchard then covered the dazed Calvello for the three-count to win the tournament.

Right after the match, Young came into the ring to congratulate Bouchard, followed by Georgia Hase and Baby Rocco also coming in to join the celebration while the fans booed.  After being handed the Mildred Burke Invitational Trophy by the referee, Bouchard took the arena mic and bragged about her tournament win, expressing her pleasure at now getting what Renée Martel got last year before adding that she would now do what Renée could not do against then-United States Champion Calvello last year - use the momentum from her win to go into her upcoming title match, take the NWA North American Women's title from its holder Joan Weston and become a dominant champion who would never lose the belt.  As Bouchard continued talking, however, Calvello, who had been out at ringside recovering from the spinebuster slam, came back in and charged at Bouchard, spearing her to the mat and whaling away at her with punches as the crowd rooted her on, but Young, Hase and Rocco took quick action as they jumped and attacked Calvello.  Bouchard, momentarily stunned by Calvello's attack, got back up and got in her opponent's face, delivering paintbrush slaps to her face while berating her for disrupting her celebration, but before long, the cavalry came for Calvello as Earlene Brown, Joyce Fowler, Judy Arnold and Renée Martel stormed in and chased the Queen's Court out of the ring as the fans cheered loudly.  Down at ringside, an irate Bouchard started yelling at and threatening the babyfaces while Young, who herself was warning Calvello and company to watch their backs, escorted Bouchard back up the aisle to the locker room area while Calvello, Arnold, Fowler, Martel and Brown made threats of their own to the heels.

* As mentioned in previous posts in this thread and at my belt render thread, the AGWA Shooting Star Championship was created as the ITTL equivalent to two real-life titles, the old All Japan Women Junior Championship and the current Future of Stardom Championship, to be contended for by the AGWA's younger wrestlers.  As an added bonus, the holder of the title also has the right to "cash in" the title for a shot at any championship of the wrestler's choosing at any time during the calendar year.  An added caveat for the title, however, is that the championship, regardless of who holds it, will automatically be vacated on December 31 of each year to be put up for grabs in a battle royal after the start of the new year to determine a new champion; if the titleholder does not cash in her championship opportunity before the title is vacated, she forfeits that opportunity.

Renee is going to cut a Cartman-esque promo, isn't she?

Hmm...  🤔  If you mean her earlier interaction involving the Sisters of Love and Robin Ascott following her tag match, I think I'll actually leave such a promo (albeit PG-rated) to someone else in an upcoming TV results post, as I have an idea for that anyway.  😏

49 minutes ago, smartman said:

And Bouchard is clearly trying to make this diary a lot about her too.

On-camera and in the Apter mags, anyway.  😁

Interesting use of the new belts.

With the AGWA United States title gone off to AJW and what was the AGWA United States Tag Team title (formerly a promotional title) now serving as an NWA title shared among all the NWA members and some non-Alliance promotions as well with its rename (albeit still controlled by the AGWA), I figured adding in some new promotional titles to spark some fan interest (at least with the Shooting Star title) would shake things up a little in the company...

Funny thing about when Vivian Vachon (or Vivian Vance at this point, both IRL and ITTL) got started - according to her WrestlingData.com entry, her first documented match happened in 1964 when she wrestled Ella Waldek in Florida for the CWF (which would've made Viv only 13 at the time - and given her age at that point, I'm not really sure about that match).  Having her turn pro in 1969 at age 18 seems way more feasible both IRL and ITTL - and as a side note, Renée made her own debut ITTL on June 17, 1965 at age 17, nine days before her 18th birthday.

As for interaction between Renée and Vivian, we'll see what happens as things progress...  😎

So since the Tag Champs were disqualified in an earlier fall and then pinned in the final fall? Would it still not count cause they didn’t get pinned twice?

The Sisters of Love making their first defense was a bit disappointing. If they gotta cheat to beat a no name team what will they do against Renee and her partner. Hope they get some clean wins going forward.

Sherill and O'Hara actually got DQed in the third and deciding fall, but in a best-of-three falls title match, a DQ happening in any fall of the match would result in the championship not changing hands due to the DQ rule where it applies (the only times such a rule wouldn't apply would be in a no-DQ match, a match where the DQ rule was waived [thereby allowing DQs to count as legal falls], or where a vacant championship was being contested).

They actually did not defend their belts in that match, but the intent here was to establish them from the get-go as dirty and less-than-honorable "closet champions" (ditto for their Ascott Dynasty stablemate Ashley Sinclair).

Aired the weekend of February 22, 1969 on AGWA Women's Pro Wrestling:

Dark match

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Barbara Jacobs defeated Yolanda Ruiz by pinfall.

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Vivian Vance defeated Elise Dorsett by pinfall following an overhead suplex.

spacer.pngspacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
In a non-title match, AGWA Television Champion Georgia Hase (with "The Queen" Mae Young) defeated Jill Gilbert by pinfall following a knee lift.

spacer.pngspacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
In a non-title match, NWA United States Women's Tag Team Champions Jane Sherill & Patty O'Hara made quick work of Carrie Lloyd & Samantha Sheridan when O'Hara pinned Lloyd following a clothesline.  Following the match, Sherill and O'Hara went out to join Dick Lane at ringside for an interview:

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

DICK LANE:  Joining me now here at ringside are Jane Sherill and Patty O'Hara, the United States Women's Tag Team Champions, and ladies, you didn't waste any time making short work of your opponents tonight.

PATTY O'HARA:  That doesn't matter to us, Lane, because that's not what we're here to talk about!  Jane and I want to talk about what happened when we were facing Joyce Fowler and Renée Martel for our belts back in L.A. on the final night of the Mildred Burke tournament!  We were doing alright for ourselves in that match and we were on our way to holding on to our belts when those two hippie chicks who call themselves the Sisters of Love ran into the ring and messed up the match for us!

JANE SHERILL:  That's right, Patty, we don't care that those hippies went after Fowler and Martel and not after us, you don't go sticking your noses where they're not welcome, and that goes double for that pantywaist manager of yours Robin Ascott!  He calls himself the "Count of Carnaby Street" and the "Marquis of Mod", but I think a better nickname for him would be the "Prince of Pansies"!  (Some fans listening to the interview nearby break out in laughter and cheers at Sherill's comment; Sherill takes notice and nods)  Yeah, it suits him too because he's got no problem with going after girl wrestlers when it suits him, but let him try that against male wrestlers and he'll end up in traction at the nearest hospital!

LANE:  Now I noticed, Patty, you've got a paper bag with you - care to let us in on what it's for?

O'HARA:  You bet I will, Lane - while me and Jane were standing out at ringside last week watching those hippie chicks lay a beating on Fowler and Martel, we were trying our best not to breathe too much because we were standing 15-20 feet from those two hippies and we could still smell the reek coming off of them!  (More laughter and cheering coming from nearby fans, which O'Hara acknowledges) Yeah, you know what I mean, and I'll even show you!  (O'Hara turns back to the camera)  If the hippie chicks are gonna stand anywhere near us again, there's a few things they need to learn how to use to make dealing with 'em more bearable, like...  (O'Hara then starts digging into the paper bag and pulls out an item)  ...some soap...  (Shows a bar of soap to the camera before dropping it back in the bag and pulling out another item while the fans start laughing again)  ...a scrub brush...  (Shows a shower scrub brush to the camera, then puts it back and gets out another item)  ...a razor for your armpits...  (Shows a safety razor to the camera)  ...and a can of deodorant spray for those nasty pits of yours!  (Shows the can to the camera; by this point, many of the nearby fans are gutting themselves with laughter, and even Lane is trying his hardest not to "corpse" on camera)

SHERILL:  Long story short, Sisters of Love, it's just our way of telling you...  Take a bath, you dirty hippies!  (The fans start laughing and cheering again over Sherill and O'Hara poking fun at the Sisters of Love)

LANE:  (Still trying not to break out in laughter himself)  Well, I guess we'll end the interview here before we get in trouble with station management.  We'll be right back with our next match after these words!

France Gall used a cannonball off the ropes to pin and defeat Addie Trent.

AGWA Shooting Star Championship

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Renée Martel, after having to deal with several instances of meddling by flamboyant Ascott Dynasty manager Sir Robin Ascott (who showed during the match that he was not averse to taking physical action against his clients' opponents, including resorting to face slaps or choking on the ropes while the referee was distracted) while facing his client Ashley Sinclair (C), eventually dealt with Ascott by dropkicking him off of the ring apron as he jumped up on it to try to distract the ref as Martel made a comeback against Sinclair; after backflipping Sinclair, Renée then put her in the Alligator Clutch and got the submission to seemingly win the title.  As Renée was about to be handed the Shooting Star belt, however, Ascott got hold of the arena microphone, came into the ring and snatched the belt away from the ref, then made a previously-unknown revelation about the championship as he produced a piece of paper from his coat - eligibility to contend for the Shooting Star title was limited to those wrestlers with less than three years of ring experience; because, as he pointed out, Martel passed the three-year mark as a wrestler on June 17, 1968, she was therefore ineligible to wrestle for the title and, even though she won the match, she would not get the title.  Renée did not look impressed, and neither were the fans as they booed while Ascott handed the Shooting Star belt back to Sinclair, who gloated about managing to hang on to her title due to that technicality - but Renée would get the last laugh when she dropkicked Sinclair and sent the arrogant heel tumbling from the ring to the arena floor to the fans' cheers, with Ascott following Sinclair out to ringside to check on her before making threats to Martel.

Aired the weekend of March 1, 1969 on AGWA Women's Pro Wrestling:

Dark match

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Panama Franco defeated Dixie Grant by pinfall.

spacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.png
Jane O'Brien defeated Linda Terrell by pinfall following a powerslam.

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngVersus 2.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
In a non-title match, AGWA Interstate Tag Team Champions The Sisters of Love (Sister Lavender & Sister Serenity, with Sir Robin Ascott) defeated Margo Vincent & Jackie Long when Long was pinned by Lavender after falling victim to a double-facebuster by Lavender and Serenity.  During the match, the fans, having picked up on Jane Sherill and Patty O'Hara's interview in the previous episode, began taunting the Sisters of Love with chants of "Take a bath!", while also dissing Ascott with a less-than-flattering chant deriding his manhood.  Following the match, Ascott grabbed the arena mic again and verbally tore into Sherill and O'Hara for their comments against him and the Sisters in their interview (which served only to get the fans on his case again with more derogatory chants), then demanded an apology from them for the comments; Sherill and O'Hara then came out to ringside and started arguing with Ascott and the Sisters of Love for a few moments, capping off by telling them point-blank they would get no apology from them, only facefuls of fists, before Sherill and O'Hara headed back up the aisle to the locker room area to some cheering from the fans.*

AGWA Interstate Championship

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Ann Casey (C) did not have an easy time against Jan Vallow, who dominated a good part of the match using roughhouse tactics, but Casey made a comeback and eventually got her larger opponent up in the airplane spin before pinning her for the three-count to retain her title.

NWA North American Women's Championship

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png
Joan Weston (C) took on Margot Bouchard (with Mae Young), who earned her title shot via her victory in the Mildred Burke Invitational Tournament two weeks earlier, in a rematch from their first encounter for Weston's title back in 1967.  Apparently, the hatred between the two has not cooled down in the past two years, as Bouchard attacked Weston when the champion entered the ring.  Bouchard was relentless in her initial offensive, but Weston delivered a strong blow to Bouchard’s abdomen and she let her guard down, enabling Weston to go to work on the rulebreaking Canadian grappler.  The action see-sawed back and forth until Bouchard caught Weston in an abdominal stretch, at which point things did not look good at all for the North American Champion.  After being immobilized in the hold for at least 90 seconds, Weston managed to break free.  She caught a breather for a few seconds, then reeled Bouchard with a powerful clothesline.  As Bouchard finally got to her feet, Weston slapped on a sleeperhold.  Worried that Bouchard would have submitted to the hold, Young got into the ring and hit Weston from behind, thus earning a disqualification from the referee for Bouchard.  The heels continued their double-team attack on Weston post-match until Ann Casey and Renée Martel ran in for the save and chased Young and Bouchard out.

 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

* Although technically still heels at this point, the reaction Jane Sherill and Patty O'Hara got from their interview for poking fun at hippies (via their use of personal hygiene products as props to diss the Sisters of Love) essentially served to make them into tweeners against the even less-popular hippie girls.

Huh...the anti-hippy promo is actually not as bad as i thought i would be. Just saying that they stink is, like, way less offensive than going on a boomer rant.

Also, I'm actually siding with Ascott here, and i daresay that booking a shooting star title match with renée actually is a stupid idea that shouldn't really happen in the first place, since she was already wrestling for three years and more. So yeah, big OSW moment there 😛
