"The BITE"

By Vic Venom

(August 1996 - Week Four)

Jeff Jarrett's New Look... And Attitude!

The decision to give Jeff a more aggressive look and attitude, while keeping some elements of his country music character basically came down to the fact that the company's trying to break away from the cartoony gimmicks of the past, and head into a more reality-based, modern-society type product.

Plus, from what good ol' Vic understands, he's also been told to hold nothing back when it comes to how he truly feels as pertains to his family, his career, and the WWF in general. As a company, we believe this kind of stuff could make for some compelling television.

Flash Funk SuperStars Debut?

Word on the street has it that Flash Funk's SuperStars debut was a partial punishment, due to him getting caught using soft drugs by management. He was originally supposed to be hyped by a bunch of vignettes, like Val Venis, before appearing on-screen - which were pulled as a result.

Rob Van Dam: The Next Big Thing?

Though it's still in its infancy stages, the powers that be here in the World Wrestling Federation seem to be quite impressed with both Rob Van Dam's unique ring-style and his ability to connect with the audience thus far. When he received a standing ovation following his valiant efforts at SummerSlam, competing with busted ribs, some are starting to truly believe this talented young man just may have a very bright future if he could continue with this good momentum, and raising his popularity.

GORILLA GETS RUN OVER!

As you all should've heard by now, our beloved President, Mr. Gorilla Monsoon, was viciously run down in the Gund Arena parking garage last night, but the good news is: he's gonna be okay. And as you also should've heard, he's already made a hand-picked selection to fill in for him while he's down and out - and this person will be kicking off Monday Night Raw! And bro, I'm hearing this man is an absolute LEGEND in this business, an absolute egomaniac, and most certainly looking to make his presence known with his upcoming state of the union address! And as far as WHO was behind this disgusting act of attempted murder, this mystery man vows to make his first order of business, claiming the investigation has begun and as of right now, everyone is a suspect!

He's also rumored to not be all that thrilled with the actions of Chris Candido, and to have multiple MASSIVE announcements in regards to September's In Your House, taking place in just a few short weeks. This all sounds pretty damn intriguing to me bro, and good ol' Vic's got a got a good ol' feeling that things are about to get a little more saucy around here in the near future.

The IC Title Tournament And All Surrounding It!

With the tournament heating up, and both Owen Hart and Hunter Hearst-Helmsley advancing, the two are now set to square off in what should be a great quarter-finals match. We also had newcomer, and third generation star, Rocky Maivia take down Salvatore Sincere on SummerSlam's Free-For-All, and he'll now have a date with 'The King' in a first round match this coming Saturday Night on Shotgun - with the winner set to meet 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin in the quarterfinals.

On the other side, we'll have two of the all-time greats going at it in a round one match, when 'Double J' clashes with Jake 'The Snake', with the winner of that one facing whomever prevails in the clash of two former Intercontinental Champions, featuring Goldust and Marty Jannetty. And, after his most-impressive victory over The British Bulldog at SummerSlam, Sycho Sid waits in the wings for whoever advances in the forthcoming Faarooq/Henry O. Godwinn slugfest.

Also, from what my sources tell me, there's been multiple considerations as to whom is actually gonna win this thing, which means as of now, there's no clear favorite. However, if I was a gamblin' man, I'm always gonna go with brains over brawn, so I'd watch out for Jeff Jarrett and the winner of the Owen/Hunter contest. And finally, speaking of Hunter, my sources have also informed me that he was asked about how he'd feel about putting over Van Dam, should they decide to go that route, but he was apparently having none of it. Now, there's always the off-shoot chance that the powers that be could have been just testing him, due to the hot water he got himself into back in May with the infamous 'Curtain Call' incident - and if that's the case, the future might not be too bright for 'The Connecticut Blue Blood', to say the least!

Vic's Done Spewing His Venom For Now, Rats And Rattetes!

Now go do something with your lives.

Televised Broadcast:

We open with Howard Finkel in the ring:

HowardFinkel2.jpg.274d9732c0b53687bc9e452ba7989a1c.jpg

"Ladies and gentlemen. Please welcome... the neeewww interim president of the World Wrestling Federation, the one... the only......

MISTEEEEEEEERRRRR PEEEEEERRRRRR-FEEEEEEECCCTT !"

The epic theme hits, as Curt makes his grand entrance, grinning ear to ear. He looks on point in his executive consultant attire and enters the ring to a standing ovation, hitting the ropes, smacking his gum away and calling for a mic.

He starts by talking about the dastardly assault on Monsoon, claiming absolutely EVERYONE who's on the World Wrestling Federation payroll is officially a suspect, besides the following: 'The Heart Break Kid' Shawn Michaels, the man they call Vader, Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, McMahon, Lawler, and Ross. He also adds that he believes it's also pretty safe to exclude both The Undertaker, and of course Sunny. That covers anyone who was either at ringside and/or incapacitated before the appalling attack took place.

From there, he talks about the repugnant actions of Chris Candido, as a clip flashes across the screen of the top-rope powerbomb heard 'round the world, informing us he's been suspended for one month without pay - should he set foot within a hundred yards of a WWF arena, his contract will be terminated permanently! Then tells Sunny that he, and everyone else here and all around the world wish her a speedy recovery.

Speaking of the prom queen, he states, another thing he will not stand for is the ruse she and The Smokin' Gunns pulled in the Four Team Elimination Match. He gives credit where it's due, saying though it was a good plan, unfortunately, it was not Perfect! Also unfortunately for them, he's the one calling the shots now, so right here next week on Raw - they'll be putting their tag titles on the line against a team of HIS choosing!

Henning goes on covering two more things. Number one: starting next week: Monday Night Raw goes to NINETY minutes, and will be airing on the USA Network from 9PM Eastern Time, through 10:30PM Eastern!

Number two: that brings him to our next pay-per-view, in just four weeks, Sunday September 22nd, In Your House: Mind Games - and our massive triple main event:

CurtHennig11.jpg.353c2bf417d0d4c92fdcb9e45d65c1b4.jpg

"Firstly, this is where we'll be seeing the finals of the Intercontinental Title Tournament! Secondly, being last night at SummerSlam, our WWF Title match was filled with nothing but controversy and chaos, I figure why not just let Vader duke it out one-on-one with the returning Bret 'Hitman' Hart! And finally, following his huge victory over The Undertaker - Mankind has indeed earned himself a shot at Shawn Michaels' WWF Worl..." (59)

Vader's theme hits, cutting off our interim president, as Cornette comes out leading the way, shouting into a mic about how 'The Mastodon' never lost, and how that was highway robbery last night, while the two are headed towards the ring - but outta nowhere 'The Hitman' ambushes the big man from behind, and the wild brawl is on! Eventually, Vader pulls a reversal and tosses Bret right into the steel barricade, as both WWF officials and the Evanston PD come storming out to break them up! (70)

JustinCredible6.jpg.72a2dc078c0a01f4f70c554575c5dead.jpgVs.thumb.jpg.eb1e574887f22e997a242243ee42dcc9.jpgFakeDiesel.jpg.08f124ce5a05914ef13fad8ea8d8f95e.jpg

- 'Diesel' def. Justin Credible in 3:33 by pinfall with a Jackknife Powerbomb. (28)

When we return from commercial break, Vince informs us that both Bret Hart and Vader have been ejected from the arena tonight, courtesy of Mr. Perfect! As Big Daddy Cool makes his way down, 'The King' says his sources have just informed him that Mr. Perfect ordered this match take place as punishment for Justin's involvement in the nefarious attack on Sunny last night.

Credible started taking it to 'Diesel' early on, using his smaller stature and speed, and even had the big man reeling momentarily, but soon bounced off the ropes and got caught with a crushing big boot. After a series of power moves, including snake eyes, some back elbows in the corner, a devastating sidewalk slam, and a Jackknife PowerBomb, that was all she wrote.

This match cooled the crowd a little.

Backstage, Kevin Kelly sits down for an exclusive interview with Hunter Hearst-Helmsley, who talks about how he's always been able to either buy or achieve anything he's ever wanted in life, and how he's currently in the process of achieving the one thing he's always wanted more than anything - shooting straight to the top of the World Wrestling Federation! He then gloats a bit about his victory over Rob Van Dam, before claiming that at In Your House: Mind Games, the rich will get richer - and that you're looking right here at the NEW Intercontinental Champion.

Just then, 'The King Of Harts' comes walking into the scene and begins jawing off, stating though he has no personal issue with Helmsley, he'd better be careful just assuming things come that easy around here. Hunter responds calmly, saying no disrespect, Owen's a great wrestler, and by far the best to emerge from his illustrious family, but he's also however, nothing more than the next speedbump on his path to IC gold! Hart then threatens to slap the taste outta his mouth, leading to a swarm of WWF officials rushing over to get between them before an impromptu fight breaks out on set! Kevin then chimes in, saying that he's just been informed: Owen's interview time has been moved to five days from now, on Shotgun Saturday Night. (72)

We cut to another area backstage, where Clarence Mason approaches Mr. Perfect, complaining about Crush not being in the Intercontinental Title tournament, to which Perfect responds that his client should feel fortunate to even have a job here in the World Wrestling Federation - especially because his criminal background alone qualifies him as a prime suspect in the Monsoon investigation. Curt then walks off, as Crush smashes his right fist into his open left hand. (51)

WWF Intercontinental Title Tournament - Round One:

FarooqAssad.jpg.b5c8c40f010a578efaa2693451a6146c.jpgVs.thumb.jpg.eb1e574887f22e997a242243ee42dcc9.jpgHOG2.jpg.0dd7a13db7e70aa6be60291e2a7faa75.jpg

- Faarooq Asad def. Henry O. Godwinn in 5:26 by pinfall with a Dominator. (55)

A hard-hitting affair here, that spilled to the outside a few times. The big hog-farmer reversed a Dominator attempt on the floor with a back body drop and seemed to have things well in hand. McMahon says he believes Faarooq looks lost without Sunny, but just then, Sunny's newest client managed to duck a running clothesline attempt from Godwinn on the outside - sending him arm and shoulder first directly into the steel post, and crashing over the ring steps!

To top things off, Faarooq turns around and nails Hillbilly Jim with a clothesline, putting him down as well! From there, he rolls Henry O. into the ring, and a running football tackle, a spine-buster, and a Dominator later - he's advanced in the tournament, and now has a date with Sycho Sid in the quarterfinals!

Faarooq Asad advances in the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

Coming back from break, Jim Ross is in the ring, and he asks us all to please welcome his very special guests at this time: Paul Bearer and MANKIND! The eerie theme hits, as the two make their way out from behind the giant RAW sign atop the ramp. McMahon mentions that Mankind requested JR personally, cause he's the only one he'll talk to. Lawler hopes this demented freak jams his fingers right down Ross' throat!

Jim starts by asking the simple question of why?? Why throw away the six year legacy, to which Paul claims it's simple - he was sick and tired! Sick and tired of carrying The Undertaker all around the world, carrying him to all the triumphant victories, carrying him to the WWF Title! All his powers lie within this urn, which is now no longer there to guide the way! He then promises there's a bigger, more demonic story to be told one day about your precious Undertaker, that he'll reveal in due time.

Ross turns to Mankind, who now has his chance to etch in stone his place in World Wrestling Federation history, if he can defeat 'The Heart Break Kid' Shawn Michaels at In Your House: Mind Games in just 27 days. The deranged one vibrates between talking and screech-screaming about how battered and scarred he is on the outside after last night, and how he absolutely loves it, because it matches how battered and scarred he is on the inside since the day he was conceived! He then states that never in his life has he EVER cared about winning, but Mr. Bearer over here has taught him a very, very important lesson....

Mankind5.jpg.3512ae92329adfa175343c346e7ae089.jpg

"You see Jimmy, by beating Shawn Michaels to a bloody pulp, leaving him in a hospital bed and TAKING his WWF Title, not only will he be the LEAST SEXY BOY TOY WALKING GOD'S DECREPIT EARTH - yours truly will have also desecrated the souls of the MILLIONS OF THE KLIQ ALL AROUND THE WORLD!"

Just then, the tolling of the bell is heard as the Welsh-Ryan Arena erupts! Ross yells into the mic that that's The Undertaker! His presence is here an everyone can feel it! Paul, in panic mode, states it CAN'T BE - The Undertaker is DEAD! The arena goes pitch black, and we hear the GONG once again! And again! And again! When the lights come back on in a dim manner, shrouded with purple smoke, 'The Phenom' is standing in the center of the ring! He drops to one knee, reaches his hand towards the heavens and rolls his eyes back - thunder crackling over the organ! (79)

The performance of Mankind was fantastic.

Live Feed: Vince and 'The King' have The Smokin' Gunns and Sunny, who's in a Cleveland hospital bed wearing a neck brace. Billy and Bart are outraged, as they threaten Candido and Credible, vowing they're gonna pay the ultimate price for what they've done! Lawler, who eggs them on by reassuring them that poor Sunny don't deserve this, asks if they heard what that ingrate Mr. Perfect had to say earlier - to which The Gunns say they did, and they're not happy, but regardless, they'll be there live on Raw next week to defend their titles like the true champions they are, and to shove their large-sized leather cowboy boots straight up their opponent's asses! (47)

WWF Intercontinental Title Tournament - Round One:

JeffJarrett7.jpg.09ce5a0071700e1a0c594ce2f0e91895.jpgVs.thumb.jpg.eb1e574887f22e997a242243ee42dcc9.jpgJakeRoberts4.jpg.d6f8ecc7bcaef5a21c01c0807cffc272.jpg

- Jake Roberts def. Jeff Jarrett in 4:30 by disqualification. During the match we also had The Honky Tonk Man distract Jake Roberts. (47)

'Double J' looked pretty good in his return to the ring, gaining the early advantage due to 'The Snake' having words with Lawler who was taunting him from the announcer's table on the outside. About a minute or so in, The Honky Tonk Man made his way out to have a few laughs with 'The King' and sarcastically cheer on Roberts, hollering "C'mon Snake Man!" - and finally, he reverses an Irish whip, sending Jarrett smashing into the corner. But just as he comes charging in with a clothesline, Jeff pulls the referee in front!

With the official out cold, Jake doesn't lose a beat, putting Jeff down with a short-arm clothesline and signaling for the DDT! This instantaneously leads to Honky jumping on the apron, as 'The Snake' turns his attention his way and grabs him by the collar! In the meantime, with the audience in an uproar, Lawler rushes away from commentary and grabs Jarrett's guitar - only to sneak up from behind smash it over Jake's head! He then swiftly heads back to the outside and wakes the ref by snagging a soda from a kid in the front row and throwing it in his face! 'Double J' crawls over, as our official slowly counts the fall, amidst all the shards of broken wood.

As Jeff's music starts to play, suddenly it's cut off by Mr. Perfect's - who comes out into the aisle and reverses the decision! The winner, as result of a disqualification: Jake 'The Snake' Roberts!

The injury that Jake Roberts worked through took a big toll.
Jake Roberts advances in the Intercontinental Title Tournament.

Post-Match: Jarrett's irate, and immediately begins stomping away at Roberts, with The Honky Tonk Man and 'The King' joining in! Honky instructs them to lift him up - and he hits the Shake, Rattle N' Roll! He then slides out of the ring, grabs a mic and says: "Thank you, thank you very much!" - Lawler then tells them to lift Jake up again, but Mark Henry comes jogging down the ramp for the save, as all three unhesitatingly run for cover. (47)

Todd Pettengill is backstage with Sycho Sid, who psychotically gloats a bit about his big win over The British Bulldog, before addressing his quarterfinals opponent, Faarooq Asad....

SidVicious8.jpg.cf2ec057db457ae895c5b9b057f5480f.jpg

"FAAROOQ ASAD - a man whom I go WAY BACK WITH! And though we may have never seen eye-to-eye, one thing I know for certain is that he's one tough sun of a... *laughs* BUT SO WAS THE BULLDOG! And pretty much everyone else I've mowed down throughout my... Entire... Career.

You see, this business breeds the toughest of the tough, but once you get here, only the strongest of the strong survive. And nothing... NOTHING! - is gonna stop 'The Master... And The Ruler Of The World' from becoming your NEXT World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion." (71)

Todd kicks it over to Dok Hendrix, who's standing by with 'The Heart Break Kid' Shawn Michaels for a pre-match interview. The World Wrestling Federation Champion talks about how he now truly understands what it's like to be the "hunted", just a mere 24 hours removed from the single most grueling battle he's ever encountered. He then gives kudos to Marc Mero, who went through a one helluva steel-cage slugfest in his own ri...

He stops right there, as 'The Wild Man' walks in, extending his hand, wishing Shawn good luck, to which he does right back. Mero's music hits as he walks off, before Michaels sends a fair warning to Mankind, claiming if he comes anywhere close to him, Marc or Sable - he'll kick his teeth, the three of them he's got left anyway, straight down his stinkin' throat! (72)

WWF World Heavyweight Championship:

- Shawn Michaels def. Marc Mero in 15:15 by pinfall with Sweet Chin Music. Goldust and Marlena watched along from the audience towards the end, and caused a distraction. (78)

A modern-day classic here, with both guys wounded from last night and giving their all from the opening bell. They had the live crowd locked in the whole way - who on multiple occasions thought we had a new WWF Champion, especially when HBK went for his vintage flying forearm and got caught in a devastating Samoan drop in mid-air, for a 2.5 count! From there, Mero climbed up top, as a woozy Shawn turned around right into a breathtaking Merosault that resulted in a 2.9 count - Sable, 'The Wild Man' and everyone in the arena could not believe!

After they duked it out to a few more very near-falls, Goldust and Marlena suddenly appeared through the audience, up in the balcony, momentarily distracting Marc, as he had the champ setup for The Wild Thing - swaying him just long enough for Michaels to move at the last possible second, climb back up to his feet, que the band, hit the kick - and score the three count!

The music hits, and both lie on their backs motionless, as McMahon and Lawler overstate how they each left it all out there, with Vince emphasizing that it's a nothing short of a damn shame that there has to be a loser tonight. Howard makes the official announcement, with the two embracing each other to a standing ovation, as Raw goes off the air.

Shawn Michaels makes defense number 9 of his WWF World Heavyweight Title.

Marc Mero and Shawn Michaels have great chemistry and it showed in their performances.
This match got the crowd hotter.

"More RAW... Than RAW !"

August 1996 - Week Four

- A massive Shotgun comes live this week from The Big Apple, with yet another Intercontinental Title Tournament first round match, when Jerry 'The King' Lawler goes one-on-one with newcomer, and third generation sensation, Rocky Maivia! And whomever emerges victorious earns them self a quarterfinal date with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin - right here next week!

- Interim WWF President, Mr. Perfect wasn't too happy with Owen Hart's actions this past Monday, interrupting Hunter Hearst-Helmsley's interview time, and therefore has insisted he square off with his former tag-team title-holding partner, ‘The Mighty’ Yokozuna! Furthermore, in the event of fairness, being the Owen/Hunter quarterfinals match is set to take place in just 48 hours on Raw - he's also insisted Helmsley be set for action as well, cause he'll be clashing with none other than Owen's brother-in-law and former WWF Intercontinental Champion, The British Bulldog!

- Also, we're in for a pretty wild main event to say the least, as all HELL is set to break loose, when deranged madman collides with unstable psychopath - it's Mankind facing off against Sycho Sid!

- Plus, we'll be hearing from 'The King Of Harts' Owen Hart, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts swings by Pillman's Pit, and finally, just in case all that ain't enough - 'The Mastodon' Vader, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and Bret 'Hitman' Hart are all scheduled to be in the house as well, right here tonight; on Shotgun Saturday Night!
