“At the end of the day, the thing the fans don’t get, and I love them, but they keep forgetting it when we don’t talk about the SWFs or the NOTBPWs or the other megacorps of wrestling, it’s that wrestling is a damn business. I am here to make money as much as everyone else promoting. I think people just think doing it for the love of the game means doing it purely for the love of the game. Wrestling isn’t a side-hustle, I busted my ass off going around the world for years, and I want to do things the right way.”

The voice belongs to Sayeed Ali, The East Side Assassin, on Greg Sluchinski’s podcast, Podcast Wrestling Reporter.

“A passion project isn’t the same as a money pit.” the host himself succinctly adds. Ali is quick to pile on.

“4C deserves to be seen like the legitimate company it is, with the stars it has produced and its place in wrestling history. And to do that, I have to be ambitious. I ran the show for a few months, but I needed to bring in a real booker. And with so many companies thriving and becoming, fucking, behemoths that hoard, there weren’t many on the market. I got the best one.”

“But I think you can understand the reactions, people being taken aback from this. The legitimacy of the company isn’t in question, but there’s a certain… underground appeal to 4C that this choice undermines.”

“Really? That guy? Because he accepted a good job offer, that didn’t even include him interacting with those fucks that brought USPW down? Yeah, the guy who had an anarchist gimmick during the height of the Iraq war and spent years making GSW watchable absolutely ‘undermines our underground credentials’.  Come on now, Greg. He has a proven track record booking good wrestling, he has connections in the business. And people will go on Twitter and talk about me being insecure for even coming out and publicly defending my decision. I am here because 4C needs all the fans it can get. Wrestleworld won’t take us, we don’t get Wrestleworld Canada for some goddamn reason, there’s only fans that buy tickets, t-shirts and DVD’s. We are a goddamn minnow within the COTT, an alliance that we’ve been a part of since practically the beginning, and we’re being lapped by almost everyone’s exposure. Why would I have an OLLIE guy travel to Canada to be paid more than the rest of my roster combined? I don’t think Steel and American Magnet are better than my guys, but that’s the 4C I inherited, and that’s what this business is.”

“Look, at the end of the day, there’s no reason Toronto’s company should be an afterthought. I am promoting for the nerdiest of nerds, the people who appreciate that I’ve shed blood from Vancouver to Victoria, who know our roster has some incredible wrestlers from all around the world, and those are the people that will sometimes complain about every little thing. But this isn’t little, it’s me making a decision that will shape 4C’s future, after I guaranteed that it will have one.”

He takes a breath before continuing, with Sluchinski not bothering to interrupt and get the show on track just yet.

“I am establishing a relationship of trust. With the fans, with the roster. CJ Weston is the man for the job. And we can prove this to you if only you buy 4C Cage Rage, headlined by me going head to head with the arrogant fuckboy Aaron Knight!”

Cut to forced Manscaped ad read, and the show goes on.

BREAKING NEWS! 4C EXPELLED FROM CONFEDERATION OF THE TERRITORIES!

After what was considered “inflammatory comments” by the East Side Assassin on Podcast Wrestling Reporter, and his hiring of wildly unpopular figure CJ Weston, there was “heat” on 4C from the leadership of the other COTT companies, who asked ESA to reframe his comments and talk about how all of the COTT stands on equal footing. ESA according to a source essentially ‘flipped out” about how the only reason the company has been included is his drawing power and that they’ve been mostly cut off from crossovers and opportunities, and tensions escalated to the point of expulsion. It is unclear what that means for COTT company wrestlers that have a contract with 4C, as there doesn’t seem to be a “war” brewing per se.

As we first at Cheap Pop broke, CJ Weston was the man who the USPW brass chose to lead MAW after its purchase from Sam Keith, replacing popular booker Jay Fair and seen as a puppet of the biggest multi-billion company in wrestling today. He did however do a good job with MAW despite having this (to be fair, not that green in some cases) developmental roster put on weekly TV. After the aftermath of the Packer scandal and USPW's restructuring into what it is today, MAW was considered surplus to requirements, and it seems the former Citizen X has found a new home in the Canadian independent promotion. Whether this is an attempt to "fix" his image for a next big paycheck or an opportunity for 4C to do something special remains to be seen. Weston has only put out a statement on his social media saying he's really excited for some "cool fucking wrestling to take place", but he's being hit with a big, plan-altering blow on what is probably his first day in charge..

COMPANY OVERVIEW

4CAI.jpg.cf73e61688e8e53ca91ce02fb6319092.jpg

Founded by Troy Winner in 1996, for many years Canadian Charisma Championship Combat were the "underground alternative" to the Canadian powers of NOTBPW and CGC. Using unproven young talent and workers who had been overlooked or mis-used by bigger companies, their roster was hungry to prove itself and 4C's fast-paced, physically demanding matches allowed them to do just that. Ultimately Troy was brought down by hubris - seeing CGC falling he hired expensive name talents hoping to expand. Unfortunately they weren't the draw he hoped they would be and with ACPW's rise (powered by Wrestleworld) audiences began to dwindle and they soon ended up in financial dire straits. East Side Assassin saved 4C in April 2021, purchasing the company from Troy. He has changed the product to cater to the smart "IWC" fans and hopes to create something hardcore fans will love.

Owner: Sayeed Ali/East Side Assassin

Perhaps the biggest worldwide independent superstar, Sayeed Ali's exploits in brutal hardcore matches throughout the world's indies have helped make him a household name, a champion in 6 countries and 5 continents, arguably saved DIW and now he's trying his hand at promoting after saving 4C from bankruptcy, the company that kickstarted his career in the late 00's.

Booker/Head Road Agent: Citizen X

The controversial new booker of 4C, our UC, the guy tasked with making Canadian Charisma Championship Combat a name that means something to as many people as possible..

GrantTruman(2).jpg.ea27ba9d784c94705832f5c0a5ac2030.jpg

Booking Team Member/Secondary Road Agent: Grant Truman

A veteran voice that everyone likes and respects, Truman may not have been the best wrestler before his injuries forced him to retire, but he's a hell of a locker room guy and very loyal.

LarryWoodKingBison2.jpg.90688b9976fc6901b8aee3f92dacd98f.jpg

Part-Time Advisor/Owner of Caninja: Larry Wood

Wrestling's biggest genius and Canada's hardcore superstar before the Assassin came around (even though Ali is from New York), he's contracted as a road agent but since he founded Canadian Ninja, North America's first company running on a Japanese puro schedule, he's been around less. There's rumours of a working relationship between Caninja and 4C being part of the company's launch but the two haven't done official business yet other than both companies contracting Shiva.

STARTING ANNOUNCEMENT TEAM:

TerrySmithshipshirt(1).jpg.fbd7e188aa15e193c3134854094e55fb.jpg

Play-By-Play Announcer: Terry Smith

The most knowledgeable play-by-play guy in the business, Smith never fails to mention anything that you'd find on TEW.com's history about any wrestler on a 4C show. He has been questioned on the passion his calls draw, but he will always know where someone wrestled, his fourth finisher's name, and if they held a title in a random shindie on the other side of the planet.

KatieCameronsockpuppet(2).jpg.b6d92989204d6b396ac2f6097424f54c.jpg

Colour Commentator: Katie Cameron

Having debuted in the wrestling business as Jacob Jett's valet to make some side money as a college student, she fell in love with wrestling and has become a fixture of 4C shows for well over a decade. Her move from manager to colour commentator has been absolutely seamless.

4C ROSTER OVERVIEW

MAJOR STARS

image.png.d7823b0d7b923068f0b7fd17647e7379.png

EAST SIDE ASSASSIN

ChristianPriceKingBison(2).jpg.8fe4e0d8c4e7f1cb29c2d8da3f524235.jpg

CHRISTIAN PRICE

A former CGC standout, Price left the company after one too many erratic booking choices by Alex DeColt to establish Quebec Pro Wrestling, a COTT member upon its inception. He's been wrestling for 4C since 2018, although recent issues with his booking and 4C's expulsion from COTT make his future uncertain.

TyroneGraysockpuppet.jpg.371aad279e609b041726e039513117c7.jpg

TYRONE GRAY

"High-Energy" Tyrone Gray is a 26 year old prospect that debuted with MAW in 2014 and was part of their USPW developmental era, meaning he got high exposure at a young age. He's a really good high-flier and was one of Sayeed Ali's first signings after he took control of 4C. Being highly appreciated by the owner and someone the booker knows and has booked surely helps his standing within the company.

STARS

AaronKnightShipshirt.jpg.d1d2239577657fbd8be5e80fbf12549e.jpg

AARON KNIGHT

The "A-Game" is an absolute monster of a wrestler, and the only person to hold both the CGC World and 4C Championships. However, his CGC career is plagued by the failed babyface "Ian DeColt" run, one that ruined his credibility in the eyes of the fans and made him look like the blandest babyface in the world. After his CGC exit he spent a lot of time doing basically nothing before Sayeed Ali picked him up, repackaged him and gave him the big silver belt that made him an instant star once again.

WELL KNOWN

   DariusFunkeWillr0ck.jpg.fbd8ad2e5e83d20a693ab7c85cc8c8dd.jpg   RickyKashKingBison.jpg.9600db18f0c5a27d132c9ff2dc8077cc.jpg

DARIUS FUNKE & RICKY KASH - CANADA'S MOST WANTED

College Football standout Darius Funke and Indy wrestling veteran Ricky Kash are the most dynamic tag team duo around, with their great look and high ring ability making them a tough match for any opponent. They've spent most their time so far at NYCW before being signed by an actual Canadian company in 4C, though NYCW's standing in the COTT makes their future in the company unclear.

JesseGilbertShipshirt.jpg.6b5a6f25b33f00e5a2e8f0103545a042.jpg   JoeGilbertShipshirt.jpg.178a34b663913b0b5264c37b18f83d28.jpg

JESSE & JOE GILBERT - THE GILBERT BROTHERS

The brothers are living 4C legends, with 4 tag titles reigns together and 4 Hardcore title reigns each. After breaking up the team for a while the two got back together in 2021 and they're getting one final run at gold as they've entered their 40's.

ShivaAsaemon.jpg.7c7fe756cf162dec0bf9032fb7189d8f.jpg

SHIVA

The Muai Thai specialist is a Combat Academy graduate. He is a great striker who works a very stiff style (much to the complaints of his fellow workers some times) and he has won the Hardcore and Tag belts in 4C, with a good chance he gets the big one and completes the trifecta some day.

RECOGNISABLE

AlanParentLondon.jpg.08f3191ba48c0a6afe4a9fdf447969e1.jpg

ALAN PARENT

"Parental Abuse" may be one of the worst nicknames in the history of wrestling, his issues with bumping and selling are well documented, but damn if Alan isn't a passionate pro who's been working for over 15 years. Besides, he's a solid hand otherwise and at this point the terribleness only pops the boys (and marks).

mosherkingbison.jpg.1d500c724e24bcc5ef7222cc1de3178c.jpg

MOSHER

A Hardcore specialist (you know it when you look at him), Mosher is a Combat academy product with a Metalhead gimmick. He's a very popular part of the midcard and 3 time Hardcore champion, though whether he can rise to the top of the company is in question. He does have plenty of time in him still.

TatsukichiShichirobeiWillr0ck.jpg.77ad31eadf46b77fa79302b6540f8326.jpg  ToyokuniHardcoreWillr0ck.jpg.63c9609c6858f54552f3d8971720c4eb.jpg

TATSUKICHI SICHIROBEI & TOKOYUNI HARDCORE - THE BERZERKERS

These two WEXXV legends are gracing the stacked 4C Tag Division with their presence. Accomplished beyond any end in (the smallest company in) Japan, they still have plenty in the tank being only 37 years old, and can work both a normal and hardcore style.

BrianMillerwonk.jpg.b79b8a8541848d834469827401700344.jpg  RichardBoycewonk.jpg.61c5995ee2d6f222f08c818ed0aec60c.jpg

BRIAN MILLER & RICHARD BOYCE - THE HARDCORE TORONTONIANS

These two guys may be young, but when you're trained by Larry Wood and have this natural chemistry, you know they're destined for big things. They're sure to accomplish much.

CLARK SMALLBONE & PERRY LONGSTAFF - MINESSOTA AWESOME

ClarkSmallboneKingBison.jpg.f3cd27f1d5cb7ec9884fdb2e0566a6bd.jpg  PerryLongstaffKingBison.jpg.1a12760663cff3b82aaac6e43212da60.jpg

These Midwest pretty boys are really talented high fliers, but tired of being used as jobbers in IPW for the early part of their careers, they're now part of 4C and have the (mis)fortune of being compared with Generation Z of CGC fame all the time.

Carnaval.jpg.53dff56d15002ef2cb627af693ae9caa.jpg

CARNAVAL

A young Quebecois lucha libre fan, he graduated from the House of Stone but found with his average athleticism and super cool face paint he's better at hardcore bouts, something that 4C is more than glad to let him indulge in. He still tries to do the luchador stuff though.

KalepoFainuuSockpuppet.jpg.685977f9ae3262bee13dec530887e4b0.jpg

KALEPO FAINU'U

Part of the attempt of Ali to bring in a "global" feel to the promotion, Kalepo is part of the polynesian dynasty that runs RTTI. A really promising impactful wrestler reminiscent of his idols Samoan Machine and Rhino Umaga, he probably has a big future in the promotion.

KobraKhan2.jpg.56f2c8e7b9bd55cf666c0ff840fa05bc.jpg

KOBRA KHAN

He sticks his tongue out, he dives off of tall shit, and he travels from Australia to Canada once a month to dive off of different cool shit. Kobra Khan is a former backyarder whose infectious passion for wrestling shines brightly when he wants to do weird, cool shit and somehow makes it work despite not the biggest reservoir of talent in the world.

SethWishKingBison(1).jpg.3a9bb04d1a58b4ad7b04c4f1db65380e.jpg

SETH WISH

Seth Wish is Kobra Khan's DIW nemesis, a very similar wrestler who has the fortune of being formally trained and be a crazy athlete rather than a great athlete. A surprising choice for Ali's first newly appointed Hardcore champion, he has been justifying that choice by doing absolutely insane things to keep that belt.

TheAnarchy.jpg.67618744e8af4df8def3833671f203c2.jpg

THE ANARCHY

Not particularly a fan of politics, The Anarchy is a masked Combat Academy graduate who also likes to fall off tall things and kill himself. The Boston native has been noted to not be "very good", but his dream of making it in wrestling will be realized when he ever wins a title.

TheMisfit.jpg.e503edf64fcf2f60173037e3a208d80d.jpg

THE MISFIT

The ugliest man this side of the Ocean is an incredibly brutal, hardcore wrestler who was hired by Sayeed Ali in 2021 after graduating Combat Academy in 2014 and being rejected by the company on the spot. He did build a reputation on the indies as a man willing to do anything to get the crowd's reaction and so Ali liked his spirit enough to give him a shot.

UNIMPORTANT

EricLaMonica(2).jpg.6cfdd0b96cb5679257f5c445c8f538d4.jpg  ReillyPatton(2).jpg.70f9e3bdd44220e567925eebcd7ed248.jpg

ERIC LAMONICA & REILLY PATTON

Two fairly talented Combat Academy graduates, these two make the classic "high flyer and technician" combo work as a tag team because they lack the size and look to be solo stars.

CaptainCanada.jpg.f7b873a89627735922903138238f5c82.jpg

CAPTAIN CANADA

This youngster is part of the "wave" of Canadian luchadors. Trained by Dermott Ayers, he uses the Montreal Crab as a finisher and while very young he looks like he will have a long career at the very least.

ClutchMcKaneshipshirt.jpg.7769a15c8f74ffb6753c91d55822fdd5.jpg

CLUTCH MCKANE

The Speed King is a man of average athleticism and low stature within 4C, but he has made it 11 years into his 4C career and had some pretty good matches that never crack 11 minutes.

GahtirSalim_3.jpg.f0726d64c4b9504284eb32933f09f173.jpg

GAHTIR SALIM

A very solid wrestling prospect from India, Salim actually moved to Canada to complete his wrestling training and has had a solid independent career so far. Perhaps not the biggest potential star or a charisma machine, he's nonetheless a damn solid wrestler.

LewisFreyKingBison.jpg.c6fa46226f0f39a2435379f98d63f70b.jpg

LEWIS FREY

He may be a NOTBPW nerd, but Lewis Frey has worked hard to not be a soulless boring wrestler and is a nice breath of fresh air in 4C cards by bringing in that solid, grounded technical style.

IeyoshiShimakagecooldude.jpg.4eb72792cb29f42132ab9d0b76abb65a.jpg

IEYOSHI SHIMAKAGE

One of the toughest fighters in wrestling, Shimakage was primed for big things by BHOTWG management, before two failed drug tests basically ended his career in the company and the country of Japan. Through some weird contact coincidence he made his way to 4C, has cleaned himself up and is ready to have the run that will save his legacy and make him some money.

MiguelngelGonzlez.jpeg.47ba0654516c983a69008d3ed224b617.jpeg

MIGUEL ANGEL GONZALES

The Mexican veteran doesn't have a lot left in the tank, but Sayeed Ali remembered him from his MHW run and brought him in to bleed buckets until he calls it a day, essentially.

PaulVaughanKingBison.jpg.0f09472f9b4981423cfba4f1660c4d12.jpg

PAUL VAUGHAN

Touted as the best prospect to ever graduate Combat Academy, no matter what Chris Flynn or Morgan Malone have to say, a lot of people have pinned their hopes for the future of the company on Paul Vaughan. His high flying is jaw-dropping, his mat game surprisingly capable for a modern young indy worker and his look that of a rockstar. If he develops on the charisma front and puts on a few pounds, he'll make it anywhere in the world as an absolute headliner.

TheSpectacle.jpg.b162ec325431664a49472ca6f4253ca9.jpg

THE SPECTACLE

A decent high flyer who trained with Dragon Academy and signed with ACPW before leaving in a matter of months, he's trying to cover his lack of charisma with this painted make-up look thing. Who knows if it'll work?

WizardOfOttawaIIAsaemon.jpg.d737712f358f8bbb8057ca30b9616c16.jpg

THE WIZARD OF OTTAWA II

A nice guy and friend of 4C ref and Wizard I Dace Lavoie, Pete Johnson agreed to come into the 4C roster and portray the second coming of the gimmick. He hopes it's a stepping stone to bigger and better things, management enjoys his role as a comic relief in these shows and a throwback to the old days.

Loving your choice of 2022 4C. It's a company I don't know well enough to have preconceptions, but the triple DIW crossover of East Side Assassin, Wish and Kobra gives me some familiarity, as does Intrepid Ian's latest identity being as your top champion. I like the CJ Weston backstory too: it's almost like he's the company's fifth C.

I'm not familiar with this mod but I don't want to miss the opportunity to follow one of your diaries from the beginning for the first time.

MAIN EVENT

4C CHAMPIONSHIP STEEL CAGE MATCH: THE EAST SIDE ASSASSIN VS AARON KNIGHT (C, 5TH DEFENSE)

Aaron Knight is great, but The East Side Assassin is one of your major stars... I hope Aaron recovers the title at some point.

#1 CONTENDER'S MATCH FOR THE 4C CHAMPIONSHIP: CHRISTIAN PRICE VS TYRONE GRAY

Christian Price is a great character, I suppose he is a heel in this mod too. If The East Side Assassin wins, it makes sense that Tyrone wins this one.

4C TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: THE HARDCORE TORONTONIANS VS THE GILBERT BROTHERS (C, 4TH DEFENSE)

I don't think more than one title changes hands in the first event.

4C HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP BARBED WIRE CAGE OF DEATH ESCAPE MATCH: CARNAVAL VS KOBRA KHAN VS MOSHER VS THE ANARCHY VS THE MISFIT VS SETH WISH (C, 3RD DEFENSE)

Same reason.

CANADA'S MOST WANTED VS THE BERZERKERS

SHIVA VS PAUL VAUGHAN

IEYOSHI SHIMAKAGE VS LEWIS FREY

KALEPO FAINU'U VS MIGUEL ANGEL GONZALES

Love the graphics, also was a fan of 4C but felt like they got shafted in the default data, especially considering there's only 2 Canadian companies on launch now...

4C CHAMPIONSHIP STEEL CAGE MATCH: THE EAST SIDE ASSASSIN VS AARON KNIGHT (C, 5TH DEFENSE)

It's a new era, and Mr. Knight might not be long for this new era given his COTT connections

#1 CONTENDER'S MATCH FOR THE 4C CHAMPIONSHIP: CHRISTIAN PRICE VS TYRONE GRAY

I have 0 knowledge of the alt22 mod other than through the lens of DIW, so I'm going bullish on this - Sayeed Ali's starting a new regime in 4C with the former Citizen X, and I think we see a guy he worked a lot with in MAW getting the first shot at Ali

4C TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: THE HARDCORE TORONTONIANS VS THE GILBERT BROTHERS (C, 4TH DEFENSE)

The Gilberts are the heart and soul of 4C, so while some things may change with Ali in charge, some things should stay the same too

4C HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP BARBED WIRE CAGE OF DEATH ESCAPE MATCH: CARNAVAL VS KOBRA KHAN VS MOSHER VS THE ANARCHY VS THE MISFIT VS SETH WISH (C, 3RD DEFENSE)

The future DIW Champion isn't dropping his title just yet IMO

CANADA'S MOST WANTED VS THE BERZERKERS

Can see this going either way, but The Berzerkers are one of the best hardcore tag teams in all of wrestling and I think they have a date with the Gilbert Brothers sooner rather than later, while all four men are still able to wrestle at a high enough level

SHIVA VS PAUL VAUGHAN

Paul Vaughan is the star of tomorrow, but Shiva is one of your top guys right now.

IEYOSHI SHIMAKAGE VS LEWIS FREY

I have no idea if much is different in the alt CVerse, but Shimakage is so good - in my game he left BHOTWG and formed stables in WLW and EX2010 while winning both their top titles, something I've never seen the AI do before. On paper he stands head and shoulders above pretty much every guy you have IMO

KALEPO FAINU'U VS MIGUEL ANGEL GONZALES

Big Pacific Islanders squashing guys is a wrestling tradition no matter what corner of the world you are in

4CAGE RAGE

MONDAY, WEEK 4 OF JANUARY 2022

AT TWIN ELM PARK, OTTAWA ONTARIO (1000 IN ATTENDANCE SOLD OUT)

MATCH 1: KALEPO FAINU'U VS MIGUEL ANGEL GONZALES

image.png.36248baba66bee930d86de20a20e97f2.png    VS    image.png.d94edac9bc6d838fb2f4c3f5dba2d263.png

There we go. First match. First impression. And it's...absolutely terrible. Very early on, a stiff strike from the Mexican veteran in the mid-section clearly injures Kalepo, who's a tough kid still but the strain kind of disorients his fluidity and leads him to second-guess his sequences. That fact combined that in his age, Gonzales looks to be almost uncarriable, and the match is extremely short so they don't have the chance to get the crowd back with a couple bomb sequences means that Fainu'u hits the Samoan Driver to deafening silence. (4:06)

RATING: 7

MATCH 2: IEYOSHI SHIMAKAGE VS LEWIS FREY

IeyoshiShimakagecooldude.jpg.fdcc2b4e44be7b3088f35c9605e22ff7.jpg    VS    LewisFreyKingBison.jpg.fb314cb57e88fb4d4706da52826a8959.jpg

This was obviously an improvement. First of all, both these guys can WORK. Shimakage hits hard then whenever his opponent retaliates does a great chickenshit routine where he tries to protect the sunglasses he works the start of matches with leading to usually getting suplex'd off his boots, which happens here. It's this fact that we don't get anything out of Ieyoshi's formula and the crowd is struggling to really get excited after this opener that limits this otherwise well worked match. The bad luck seems to continue as well as Shimakage appears to get a calf injury after a capture backdrop by Frey, as he struggled to get to his Package Piledriver for the win. (7:24)

RATING: 35

MATCH 3: CANADA'S MOST WANTED VS THE BERZERKERZ

DariusFunkeWillr0ck.jpg.a6ba8194f05acb60a3358132829e9e22.jpg RickyKashKingBison.jpg.33e9429e64ed54e2e955fb6b480b6294.jpg     VS    TatsukichiShichirobeiWillr0ck.jpg.82876bd62b5fea7c45435c4e0efde2dd.jpg ToyokuniHardcoreWillr0ck.jpg.d34766c840e8f8596871b2dd69aec03a.jpg

A classic battle of the conventional tag team of big grappler and tricky high flyer against two absolute bruisers, this was once again better than the match that preceeded it and finally got the crowd to make some noise. The Canadians were actually in control for a bigger portion of the match than you'd expect, getting a really cool nearfall with a flying clothesline/german suplex combo but Toyokuni Hardcore distracted the referee (by being big) and slipped a pair of brass knuckles to Shichirobei who used them on both his opponents to set up the Charging Big Boot for a pretty straightforward win. (13:04)

RATING: 45

MATCH 4: PAUL VAUGHAN VS SHIVA

PaulVaughanKingBison.jpg.b533138ce9229316fa4099f859355083.jpg    VS    ShivaAsaemon.jpg.5b230aab56f8029f6afbf23a9943f203.jpg

Paul Vaughan is the biggest prospect for 4C since Davis Wayne Newton, even if his 80's rockstar look is a bit out of place for the edgy indy. The reason for that is that instead of resembling the other impressive young high fliers, both in this company and the broader North American independent scene, in being a bit of an one trick pony early on and seeing whether he sinks or swims as he develops, his ground game is already plenty strong. And that's what he relies on to keep the striking merchant Shiva at bay, in a very evenly fought start to the contest until Shiva hits a really brutal combo that allows him to follow up with a half-and-half suplex that saw Paul bounce like a spring off his head in the sell. Shiva mostly dominated the second half of the match other than a good comeback from the kid (slap, dodge, forearms, bounce off the ropes, dodge, bounce off the ropes, dropkick, pose for the fans, frankensteiner, two count), hitting the Executioner's Kick to put him away. (9:13)

RATING: 44

SEGMENT: THE BEST AROUND

After the match we get a very rare sight, which is Shiva picking up a microphone to speak. His delivery is extremely monotone and wooden, but it works for him a tiny bit as this emotionless killer figure- at least enough to not be laughed off or get into Supreme Botch videos. He says that he's ready to become a triple crown winner for 4C as he's the best striker in the company and no one can match up to him. This was only the beginning of Shiva's year, Shiva's reckoning and no one can prove him otherwise. Of course someone proves him otherwise.

BradleyBlazeshipshirt(1).jpg.598745f21681c8666c57ba5ddcad31a9.jpg

MAW alumni and pretty hot free agent Bradley Blaze interrupts him to tell him that he may not have done the 'Maoi Tai' or whatever, but he's survived more barfights than anyone and has kicked enough asses in the wrestling ring too. He's aiming for the 4C title, so why not take a little shortcut by beating "the best striker" the company has to offer at X Factor? Shiva is happy to oblige him.

RATING: 40

MATCH 5: CAGE OF DEATH ESCAPE MATCH FOR THE 4C HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP

CARNAVAL VS KOBRA KHAN VS MOSHER VS THE ANARCHY VS THE MISFIT VS SETH WISH (C)

Carnaval.jpg.cafd798fc30c3de01407751e752ff389.jpg  KobraKhan2.jpg.48118b136b086f403f42a9c4c63c0355.jpg  mosherkingbison.jpg.5af507b0d5210e60d0d68ba04aa0174c.jpg  TheMisfit.jpg.8a3be5249f8faf98fc997451cacbbdcc.jpg  TheAnarchy.jpg.3a169fc5252370ce1c5ab3fe550a477c.jpg  SethWishKingBison(1).jpg.a8d1b86a43675eae53af3fc0b8a63bf1.jpg

4CHardcore.jpg.e794baa17f8c05fff72ad55318a82591.jpg

The Cage of Death. An open steel cage with barbed wire on top and barbed wire boards in the corner. Chaos ensues, people take freakish bumps, there is no connective tissue or story, just blood and screams and fucking wrestling baby. This was kind of a match where Mosher, Kobra Khan and Seth Wish know what they're doing and the three rookies really don't and it shows. Some spots look coreographed, some almost miss the mark of safety (yet hilariously no one gets injured here rather than the first two matches), and at the end we have Khan and Wish fighting hanging from the top of the cage trying to fight off both each other and the barbed wire. Wish basically cuts Khan's mask off on the barbed wire and throws him with a (really fake) uranage on a lone barbed wire board that had been moved towards the middle of the ring and then braces for the excruciating pain of the barbed wire as he partly goes over it partly scratches multiple body parts for the escape.

RATING: 28

MATCH 6: 4C TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: THE HARDCORE TORONTONIANS VS THE GILBERT BROTHERS

BrianMillerwonk.jpg.ce293908e25da4e6f68950f1bdc1e665.jpg RichardBoycewonk.jpg.0f2b4d9a102964e65a57e676ad7a052e.jpg  4CTag.jpg.9f82ad0fba2b45fb4d4993d7a35bb67f.jpg  JesseGilbertShipshirt.jpg.2941ba5734c31c33c0d4fc08d0570d3e.jpg JoeGilbertShipshirt.jpg.91b6d227042edacccdfd06613b920481.jpg

This was smartly placed right after the most ridiculous match of the card as it was the most old-school in its execution, with the youngsters having control, losing it due to inexperience and the Gilberts' heel shenanigans, then one Torontonian being worked over while the other is waiting for the hot tag. It was Brian Miller who had the honour of going loose on the veterans' asses, punching them and doing a suicide dive because he's a zoomer. The pupils of Larry Wood tried to go for his tag team finisher as a way to signal that they're winning their first titles but that's when Joe Gilbert and his hockey stick came into play, first as distraction then as a true weapon. By the time the ref confiscated it, Miller was all set to take the Penalty Box (Double Clobbering Clotheslines) and the champs retained. (12:33)

RATING: 45

MATCH 7: CHRISTIAN PRICE VS TYRONE GRAY

ChristianPriceKingBison(2).jpg.459d488b408cfed1a6c402e1665dd99e.jpg   VS   TyroneGraysockpuppet.jpg.5a417e61e2f0612d1f97a75b90bb3439.jpg

Price is a star and a proper pro, and he gets a really good match out of Tyrone Gray (which is also the match that finally gets the fans to their rowdy best, just in time for the main event!). Gray's job is to sell and do athletic things and he does both of these things very well while he kindly lets the veteran lead him through the story of the match. No matter what advantages Christian Price has, he just cannot even get that near to putting Gray away. Whether it be counters, sheer tenacity or kicking out early out of moves that would knock the wind out of people's sails usually, 10 minutes in a victory roll by Gray is the closest anyone gets to winning. Price has to go all out with his strikes and energy exertion and gets to bust out the Stud Stopper (360 spin Spinebuster) without even going for a pin right after as he's getting ready for the Price Check to instantly follow. However as he jumps for that punch he is met with a knee lift by Gray who goes into the Tumbleweed (Rolling Thunder Cutter) for the win. (15:27).

RATING: 58

MATCH 8: STEEL CAGE MATCH FOR THE 4C CHAMPIONSHIP: EAST SIDE ASSASSIN VS AARON KNIGHT (C)

SayeedAliKingBison(2).jpg.e3f3e045679a14372f77704a7489d7b2.jpg   4CWorld.jpg.8da8a37b0d69911c8b4573683964a5f8.jpg   AaronKnightShipshirt.jpg.810c8ee54715dbb9f56682aa089ba0de.jpg

This is it. The culmination of about 8 months of booking within the company, with ESA finally getting his rematch against the A-Game. They earned that cage match stipulation by working the story perfectly. This was torture for Aaron Knight who got baptized into what independent wrestling truly means without his ability to cheat to win. He was a crimson mask five minutes in. He might have thrown 1 punch a minute by the time we reach 10 minutes. He shows a level of actual wrestling competence because this can't be a burial, not only fighting back but using the cage to his advantage himself in some moments. He tries to rally the fans but forgets he's hated and up against the goddamn East Side Assassin and is showered in such a loud rain of boos that he almost takes psychic damage. He hits the A-Bomb only for Ali to kick out, before saying "fuck it" and going for every low move in the book. Ali partly no sells a low blow by hitting a shoot headbutt on Knight before collapsing, resulting in a cool look where he's drenched in some of his opponent's blood. As both men rise on their feet, they tease the commonplace strike exchange only for Ali to kick Knight in the dick to the crowd's absolute ecstasy. He hits the G.B.H. Driver and Knight miraculously kicks out! So Sayeed Ali just hits the G.B.H Driver off the top rope for the win and the beginning of his record 7th 4C Championship Reign. (20:19)

RATING: 64

SEGMENT: THE NEW ERA BEGINS

The Champ gets the microphone to say goodbye to the fans. He thanks them for their trust in appearing. He then proceeds to say "fuck COTT. Fuck Art Reed. Fuck Larry Vessey. Fuck Nicolas Lopez. Fuck Sam Keith. Fuck Burning Hammer. Fuck whoever bitch ass works with them." He promises everyone that no matter how much people try to either kill 4C or make it an afterthought. He will be there. Raising the banner up. Reminding everyone what extreme means. What killer professional wrestling means. Fuck the world.

RATING: 100

SHOW RATING: 53

Congrats to @newbiezness, @John Lions and @Charasmatic Enigma for getting 8/8 and thank you to @ColdBloodedSausageMakerand @KyTeran who followed up with their 6/8. A bit of a predictable first show other than the a bit divisive main but tbh if you have the mod and open it you know there's no way to convince Ali to lose this match unless you're playing with him as an owner lol. He has like 25 pop on poor Aaron Knight.

Next up, 4C Presents...X Factor!

Wow, unbelievable breaks at the start of the card with injuries in the first two matches and the opener scoring a 7: at least you know the only way is up from that. I loved the line about all the hardcore participants escaping unscathed. I know I've written it before but I enjoy your match write-ups so much and how without writing an essay, you're able to give each match a distinct flavour. I think teasing the commonplace strike exchange only for Ali to kick Knight in the dick might have been the highlight. Bradley Blaze is a smart pick-up and it felt like the perfect way to debut him halfway through the card to break up the action. Your East Side Assassin feels a lot more authentic than mine, and that was interesting background info about him refusing to put Aaron Knight over, and I guess adds to your challenge in building someone up to be worthy to dethrone him.

Yeah that start was awful but the show turned out surprisingly good for a first one. Though I guess I won't have the luxury of running ESA vs A-Game a bunch of times in a row to maintain these ratings like the main, there's going to be some aces up my sleeve hopefully. Thank you for the matchwriting praise, it's always welcome.

Excerpt from February 1st Pro Wrestling Rerporter:

"They might have worked hard in that main event, but it felt like they held on to some stuff with how story driven it was and there's this...buzz around the company that is just weird. ESA was insanely over just a month ago and now there's people saying he hired Weston to have someone else put the belt on him...as if the fans didn't want the belt on him going into the show! We will see if this leads to something and what the plans are for this reign but for the record according to the champ himself, giving him the belt was a collective decision and not an owner thing. Would that be what he'd say anyway? Yes, but it doesn't matter.

Also despite the coolness and heat of the post-match promo, expect 4C to do plenty of business with other companies in the near future."
