Chronicles - 1992 (Historical Real World Mod)

Not sure if this is salvageable, but found this pic of late 90s WCW ref corps. Very rarely do I see Scott Armstrong pics as a ref from this era.

Did I mess up the mod or is ECW supposed to be started in January 1992 with 2.5 million? Pretty sure 2.5 million is too much money for anytime in ECW

I think this has been discussed before, and yes 2.5m was too much but it was so they could expand within the game which doesn't run exactly the same as the real world.

When ECW started they didn't pay for an arena (they did bar/club shows where they kept the ticket money and the bar would keep any drink money). The original ring was free as it was owned by Max Thrasher who in exchange for ring use would be booked on the shows so they got a ring and a wrestler for free essentially. Their announcer at the time wasn't paid, and neither was the person who dealt with the sound production (speakers etc were free). Tod Gordon confirmed he eventually pumped in $200,000 to expand so I will give them that much.

Madusa being Italian was a work. She's clarified in her book and on her podcast that she's American. She should also have Career Woman.

I tend to think a Driven personality and Fitness Fanatic are correct, and that even in 1992 she should have a Toned body type, but those are interpretations not facts. (On personality she seems more Lively in 2024 but accounts of her at the time stress her focus on being successful, winning championships, etc.)

speaking of young pictures, you'll be delighted to know that the next update will have a young Frank Andersson. So he doesn't inexplicably look 60 any more

Still looking for a young Steve Manelli (and masked Super Crazy) though

Just bringing my expertise as I was looking for people I know. Hahahah

Hakim Zane was born March 1980, and debuted in January 2009.

Jake Something was born July 1989 and debuted in January 2010.

Not massively important because who really plays 15+ year long games, but you never know. I'm looking forward to diving into this! Last time I played was the 2.1 version and I loved it!

EDIT: I'm not trying to push anything on you, but I would recommend adding Doug Chevalier to the database. Otherwise known as the Canadian Destroyer. He was one of the three founders of Border City Wrestling, along with Scott D'Amore and Chuck Fader. My colleagues who were wrestling back then are adamant that he was a very important presence in a lot of their training and young days in pro wrestling.

As much as I am going to hate doing this... Birthdates and Debuts are something I will be going through at a later date so these are very helpful. Thank you. I've noticed a fair few myself which I will fix as well.

We'll hopefully get Doug in for the next update. Unfortunately, when that will be is up in the air as I have a ton of other stuff I need to get done so haven't really touched this data since it was last released. Unsure if SkyCrasher has because I think they are working on a solo project as well (link here - June 2012: Wrestling Matters )

I can only speak for myself but I'm a little burned out on updating the 1992 mod at present (that doesn't mean its dead - I just feel people need to have time to play the mod long term or all that work on future workers/broadcasters/companies/venues etc... was for nought).

So, I've been having a look at some WCW attendance numbers for their PPVs for 1992...

SuperBrawl II: 5,000 in Milwaukee
WrestleWar: 6,000 in Jacksonville
Beach Blast: 5,000 in Mobile
GAB: 8,000 in Albany, GA
Halloween Havoc: 7,000 in Philly
Starrcade: 8,000 in The Omni

And their Clash of the Champions events that year...

Topeka: 5,500
Charleston: 4,600
(Couldn't find numbers for their last two, but one was held at Center Stage Theater in Atlanta, which is where they held WCW Saturday night, and it sat around 1,000 fans I believe.)

The fact that The Omni in Atlanta was only slightly more than half full for WCW's biggest even tells a lot about their popularity at this time in their history. That was WCW's home city. I don't think that's reflected quite correctly in the mod, where it's easy to draw big numbers as WCW. Not quite WWE numbers, but still quite good. Here were WWF's PPV attendance numbers that year...

Royal Rumble: 17,000
Wrestlemania: 62,000
SummerSlam: 79,000
Survivor Series: 18,000

Even if you throw out Mania and Summerslam, the WWF was crushing WCW in attendance numbers, and I'm not sure the different in popularity is quite reflected in the mod.

For balancing purposes, and the fact that the mod is probably pretty close to a finished product, I could certainly understand if the creators didn't want to make any changes. But if I wanted to make changes in own game to make WCW harder/more realistic, what do you think I should do? They seem more like a small company (though a big small company, haha), but they ran house shows, so in terms of the game they were medium-sized. I was thinking a pop of 59 in the SE to satisfy the medium requirements, maybe 45-50 in the Mid Atlantic and Mid-South, and then gradually getting smaller the further away you get. And of course, there would need to be a worker popularity drop to a certain extent as well.

WCW have been redone 3 times since the mod released and the balance has been reworked so many times I've lost count. The problem we have is when I lowered them the first time everyone complained they couldn't keep hold of any stars and so Sting etc all left so I gave them a boost. Lowering the WCW roster overness is a way around that but then you still can't sign the likes of Ric Flair etc... and end up with WCW by 1994 being nowhere near popular enough to sign the likes of Hogan. Wrestlers like Luger would then be jobbers in WWE. TEW has limits and certain mechanics that are different to the real world meaning you cannot 100% simulate the real world so you kind of have to make exceptions for the overall balance in certain areas. People are free to change the mod how they like but there will not be another big official balance overhaul unless players genuinely hate playing it the way it is currently.

This isn't me being horrible, just responding as to why no major balance rework will be done.

Yep, as I said, I wasn't expecting the developers to make any changes at this stage, I agree with all of that. I was more asking for suggestions for changes that I could possibly make for my own personal game.
