All Elite Wrestling League

Recommended Posts

Here's my intentions over the next few nights as I have my wonderful children for the week so my free time is limited to when they have gone to bed.

Tomorrow night I will post part 1 of Double or Nothing, which should be Zero Hour and the first five matches up to and including the Women's Casino Battle Royal
Then on Wednesday night I will post part 2 of Double or Nothing which should be the World Tag Team Championship match, the Women's World Championship match, the Men's Casino Battle Royal and the World Championship match.
Finally on Thursday night I shall post the updated AEW League tables, compile the matches and angles for the next game week's Dynamite, Rampage and Collision and also post the AEW League fixtures for the week (with a likely Monday evening UK time deadline for selections).

And the Forbidden Door is about to open, I've already signed up a number of wrestlers to short term deals... and who knows... some of them may stay around for season 2 of the AEW League..?

Can I replace her with the most over woman there is and once she's back reinstate her?

I'm afraid not.

Mercedes Moné is the most over woman on the AEW roster (65 average in USA). She is a member of Team Swerve.
Dr Britt Baker D.M.D. is next (55 across the USA). She is available.

And if you replace Grace now with her being suspended, with the transfer/signing window not being open you would not be able to resign Grace unless somebody else becomes unavailable. That being said, the season is nearly over and when the season is over, the transfer/signing window reopens so you could resign her then if somebody else doesn't sign her first.

I am going to be tweaking the rules a little bit for Season 2 regarding wrestlers becoming unavailable, but more details will be announced in the close season.

You basically have two choices Dawn...
1. Replace Grace with Baker and then (try to) resign Grace once the season has finished in place of any of your women wrestlers.
2. Leave Grace in your squad until her suspension has finished and she returns, at which point the season is likely to be in it's last week or two.

One other thing to consider... Grace has now failed two drug tests. If she gets randomly selected for another drugs test when she returns and she fails again, she will be fired. As she is not on an exclusive contract with me, I don't have the option to send her to rehab.

WORLD TRIOS CHAMPIONSHIP
Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta, champions) v Timeless Ensemble (Orange Cassidy, Kenny Omega & Sami Zayn)

A very good opening match to the Double or Nothing 2024 pay per view. An established group in Blackpool Combat Club faced off against three individuals who have been racking up impressive results in the AEW League and earned this title opportunity as a result. Individually, Timeless Ensemble performed the best here, but as a trio, Blackpool Combat Club were the more impressive. And it was this teamwork that carried them to a very hard fought successful title defence in 12:55 when Moxley made Cassidy pass out to a Bulldog Choke. Will Cassidy recover for the Casino Battle Royal later? 74
Castagnoli 64, Moxley 75, Yuta 59
Omega 78, Cassidy 72, Zayn 78
Cassidy benefitted from a hot new move.
Zayn benefitted from public support.

It's time for story time bay bay as Adam Cole is in the backstage interview area... He says he hasn't worked his ass off for months to get back from injury for him to lose tonight... so he's going to win the Casino Battle Royal and then do what he didn't do last year... win the World Championship at Wembley Stadium at All In London. 69

LAX (Rush, Santana & Ortiz (with Konnan, El Hijo del Vikingo, Sammy Guevara & Dralistico) v Top Flight & Action Andretti
Amniosity has been building between these two groups in recent weeks, with LAX's gang attacks often getting the better of Top Flight and Andretti. They finally get the chance to settle the score in what should be a fair trios match.
It was a decent match. While the high flying offence of Top Flight and Action Andretti caused their opponents problems, Konnan has got the newest version of LAX as a well led unit with some great cohesion who work hard for each other and the three in the ring tonight are as tough as cheap steak. LAX picked up the win in 9:41 when Rush pinned Andretti with a La Lanza. 64
Rush 69, Santana 61, Ortiz 59
Dante 58, Darius 53, Andretti 46
Dante benefitted from a hot new move.

Christian Cage is next backstage to talk about the Casino Battle Royal. He talks about his experience in general as well as in these type of matches... and remarks it is his destiny to win the World Championship at All In London. 71

The EVPs (with Adam Page) v The Acclaimed (with Billy Gunn)
The EVPs have a lot on their plate at the moment, with a power struggle with EVP Kenny Omega and Chief of Staff Steve Austin, so they could be excused if their minds were not fully on this match. If this was the case, it sure didn't show as they were much the better team here and got a relatively and perhaps surprisingly comfortable win, not surprising that they won, but how comfortable it was for them. Nicholas pinned Caster in 12:47 after an EVP Trigger. 75
Matthew 78, Nicholas 81
Bowens 64, Caster 57
The Acclaimed benefitted from public support.

MJF is next up to stake his claim for the Casino Battle Royal. He says that while Samoa Joeker is the main joker in the match tonight, there are another twenty jokers going to that ring tonight thinking they will win... they won't... MJF says he will... because he is better than them... and they know it. 70

Big Bill & Ricky Starks v Best Friends
Former World Tag Team champions facing off against one of the original AEW teams. It was a decent match, and Best Friend proved harder opponents than the always cocky Starks and always tall Bill thought they were going to be. Once the former champions stopped fooling around a little and got more serious, they managed to close out the match in 9:25 when Starks pinned Taylor with a Roshambo. 59
Bill 43, Starks 62
Taylor 57, Beretta 55

Renee Paquette appears with Samoa Joe. Renee asks the former World champion for his final thoughts on the Casino Battle Royal... Joe says he earned the Joker spot because he is the former champion, because he works his ass off and because he racked up the wins to get the high ranking to earn it... He says he doesn't know who the Wild Card is who will enter with him, nor will he care... as he and the other twenty in the match are all going to get tossed out and Joe says he will win the title back at Wembley Stadium. 70

AEWCasinoBattleRoyale.jpg.8d735610fdc8c5ef4efc3a43db577a8c.jpg
WOMEN'S CASINO BATTLE ROYAL
Justin Roberts is center ring to explain the rules... He says 20 drew suits tonight to determine the order of entry... The suits will be revealed every five minutes in random order, with each woman who drew the suit coming out at that time... After all the suits have entered, the Joker, Mercedes Moné and the Wild Card will enter the match last... Elimination occurs when a wrestler is thrown over the top rope and both feet touch the floor... the last woman in the ring wins the Casino Battle Royal and earns a Women's World Championship match at Wembley Stadium at All In London... The video screen then 'shuffles' the suits and Justin Roberts introduces the first suit and the wrestlers...

Hikaru Shida, Athena, Nyla Rose, Saraya and Abadon
Quite a mix to start the match. Shida battled Saraya almost exclusively in the opening couple of minutes, while the other three took turns to fight each other. Abadon was the first and only wrestler out in the opening five minutes when Nyla Rose mauled her over the top rope. The countdown starts... the buzzer buzzes...

The next five enter with Deeb and Baker being two of the more fancied wrestlers to win this battle royale. In this period, Hikaru Shida came into her own as she eliminated no less than four opponents - Martinez, Valkyrie, Jay and Saraya all succumbed to the former champion and the crowd voiced their support for her. Meanwhile, Deeb, Baker and Athena made an unlikely alliance but it was worth it as they eliminated Nyla Rose. Five in and five out in five minutes and the buzzer goes again.

Statlander and Soho have had recent battles over the TBS Championship and those two started fighting even before they got into the ring. The other three had no qualms about getting in the ring and getting amongst the main action, and eventually Soho tossed Statlander in and follow her so all five were in the ring. A few of the woman were close to eliminated, but no attempts were successful, so pretty much the opposite of the previous five minute period.

It seems like we now know who has replaced Jordynne Grace follow her suspension and the Forbidden Door has opened as Giulia of NJPW and Stardom makes her way out. Eliminations start again... Shida gets her fifth as she elimates the other club left, Athena. Statlander and Soho are still fighting each other, by the ropes, trying to eliminate each other, when the wily Baker comes over and lifts them both out... but then while Baker celebrates the double elimination, Trinity tosses her out of the ring as well and finally Skye Blue gets eliminated by Deonna Purrazzo and Julia Hart by Thunder Rosa at the same time but on opposite sides of the ring. Seven women are in the ring as the buzzer goes off for the last tiime in this match, including the only club left of the original entrants, Hikaru Shida.

Maki Itoh
The Forbidden Door opens again for the Wild Card as surprise number two is Maki Itoh from TJPW and GCW. She runs to the ring and starts fighting everybody she can lay her hands on. Moné is far more measured and takes her time. Itoh gets a quick elimination as she gets rid of Serena Deeb. Once Moné gets in the ring, she quite quickly gets rid of two - Tessa Blanchard and the long lasting Hikaru Shida. Deonna Purrazzo and Thunder Rosa start fighting and Purrazzo gets the better of that, lifting Rosa over and out. Giulia gets her first elimination as she gets rid of crowd favourite Willow Nightingale. She then gets a second when she gets rid of Maki Itoh - the Wild Card isn't winning this one. That leaves a final four of Trinity (who has been in longest), Deonna Purrazzo, Giulia and the Joker, Mercedes Moné. Purrazzo eliminates Trinity, then Giulia eliminates Purrazzo. Then to finish, Giulia runs the ropes, charges at Moné but gets low bridged and goes flying over the ropes. Giulia bangs the apron in frustration, Moné dances in the ring in celebration (31:19). 62
Winner: Mercedes Moné

Runner up: Giulia
Final four: Trinity and Deonna Purrazzo
Iron woman: Hikaru Shida (around 24 minutes)
Most eliminations: Hikaru Shida (5)

WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Lucha Brothers (champions, with Alex Abrahantes) v Darby Allin & Sting

A very good match, far better than the tornado match which saw Lucha Brothers win the titles from Darby and Sting last month at The Big Gamble. Unfortunately, it also showed that the icon and legend that is Sting has been beaten by the one thing nobody can beat. Time. He struggled to keep up with his opponents, especially Fénix. There is no doubt Sting is one of the greatest ever and he will rightly be remember for it. Here though, the win came for Lucha Brothers in 10:21 when Fénix pinned Sting with an Assisted Fear Factor. 80 – match of the night

Two very tough men make their way to the ring as the Forbidden Door opens again for the Stone Pitbull who makes his way out alongside the former World champion. It's a fight to the finish for the remaining thirteen men. The final two men make an immediate impact as they make two eliminations each. Joe gets rid of Christian Cage and Daniel Garcia while Ishii eliminates Hook and Miro. Ishii and Miro would make quite a singles match. MJF then gets rid of Orange Cassidy which means all the spades who were the last suit to enter are now out while both MJF and Sami Zayn are hearts who were the first suit to enter the match.
Eight are left. Drew Galloway gets rid of Jay White. Sami Zayn gets rid of Swerve Strickland for his first elimination and then MJF gets rid of Galloway. On the opposite side of the ring, Joe gets rid of Ishii.
We're left with a final four of Adam Cole, Samoa Joe and original entrants MJF and Sami Zayn. It's back to the second half of 2023 with the Brochachos and Samoa Joe, plus Sami Zayn. Initially Zayn and MJF pair up to fight Joe and Cole, but it doesn't last long. Joe turns on Cole with a stiff headbutt than reels Cole back to the ropes, then a second sends him over. MJF immediately spies his chance and lifts Joe over before he can even turn back round. MJF is left to face Sami Zayn, two of the original five entrants are the last two left. After some back and forth, the two grapple to the ropes, where they tumble over... Zayn and MJF both try to hang on to the ropes, but MJF can't get a grip on the ropes and falls to the floor. Zayn wins in 41:22. 61

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Bryan Danielson (champion) v Will Ospreay

Everybody expected fireworks here, it was anticipated this was going to be an all time classic. Danielson put in a performance but Ospreay was a little underwhelming. He wasn't his usual high quality. Perhaps the really big match pressure got to him? Whatever the reason and while he proved very difficult to put away, he didn't have Danielson in a lot of trouble, in part due to Danielson grounding him for large portions of the match. Danielson duly retained in 32:03 by pinfall with a Busaiko Knee. 73

DYNAMITE
Wednesday, week 1, June 2024
Tsongas Center, Lowell, Massachusetts (6,000 capacity)
Announcers: Excalibur, Taz and Tony Schiavone

The EVPs Matthew and Nicholas Jackson come out to the ring to start the show, with Adam Page and Jack Perry at their side. They call out the other EVP Kenny Omega and the Chief of Staff Steve Austin. The pair come out, along with Drew Galloway and Eddie Kingston... The Jacksons demand the removal of Steve Austin as Chief of Staff, saying he is out of control and his violent actions attacking both wrestlers and high ranking officials can't go unpunished... Austin says nah ah, not going to happen and Omega agrees, Austin stays. The two groups have reached an impasse and the power struggle is very much affecting things... neither side can get things done and there is no clear control over AEW's programming because of it... The two groups just stare each other down as the segment ends. 73
Austin looked good.

Komander.jpg.151373ff1afa66ebaa485a42073b6d72.jpg v BuddyMatthews.jpg.72a2956a3d21f7d108314ec46f7088e9.jpg
OWEN HART FOUNDATION MEN'S TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND
Komander v Buddy Matthews

A decent opening contest and one where Komander gave Matthews as good as he got. It looked for a good while it could go either way, though when the chips were down Matthews came out victorious in 7:41 by pinfall with a Murphy's Law. 56

Alex Marvez is backstage with the former World Tag Team champions Big Bill and Ricky Starks. Marvez asks them what is on their mind... Starks says they are the best World Tag Team champions AEW have ever had and once again they have become the number one ranked team... so this week on Collision they want the Lucha Brothers with the titles on the line so the titles can come home to Bill and Starks. 52

Sting.jpg.fa0894efb72312489cb035594ca04338.jpg v DrewGalloway15.jpg.aeae3552170953f56369f269dfe42492.jpg
AEW LEAGUE
The Spooky Club (Sting) v The Peak of Perfection (Drew Galloway)

The crowd loved these two in the ring and the match was decent, this was more like Sting of old. Galloway showed The Icon a lot of respect before and after the match but between the bell, he was all business and duly won his team three points. They came in 7:47 by pinfall with a Claymore Kick. 65
Galloway far out performed Sting 77-50
Galloway benefitted from a hot new move.

Renee Paquette is backstage and she says the Forbidden Door has opened as she introduces Maki Itoh, who was the Wild Card in the Women's Casino Battle Royal at Double or Nothing... Itoh says that while she came up short in the Casino Battle Royal, she has opened the Forbidden Door so she can fight the best women in America and try to win a championship... so she challenges Jamie Hayter to put the Women's World Championship on the line at Forbidden Door... though Itoh doesn't mention that Hayter will have to beat Thunder Rosa later on tonight for it to happen. 71
Itoh benefitted from public support.

JonMoxley24.jpg.33e66d03c5edcc1fec693c93f025a582.jpgWheelerYuta5.jpg.eaad7552c6b8951a5704b3f3c69d294f.jpgBryanDanielson.jpg.63cfcf39517fa54ff8bf2bfcfbbe3f27.jpg v KipSabian7.jpg.2f9ea2e312e64d82899caf47819184c1.jpgBandido12.jpg.ca2dc169fb4233674755fd3ade2fadb7.jpgTheButcher(1).jpg.a0a20a9a0681661ba6641aa54849351f.jpg
AEW LEAGUE
The Bryan Danielson Appreciation Society (Jon Moxley (World Trios champion), Wheeler Yuta (World Trios champion) & Bryan Danielson (World champion)) v Team WooItsNathan (Kip Sabian (with Penelope Ford), Bandido & The Butcher)

An easy outing for BDAS, they won barely even breaking sweat, and looked to be enjoying themselves as they did it. Danielson finished the job in 5:03 when he submitted Sabian with the LeBell Lock. 61
Danielson's performance really stood out.

Lexy Nair is backstage with TV Network for the AEW League report... TV Network lie 7th with 11 wins from 34 matches... and Will Ospreay says he will improve that record when he faces Eddie Kingston on Collision on Saturday night. 45

KUSHIDA1.jpg.d0b8ed4818eb7c26f10408d11121bdc6.jpg v ScorpioSky4.jpg.02bf099d7eede5d252a0209ba62f56bb.jpg
KUSHIDA v Scorpio Sky (with Ethan Page)
The great thing with Forbidden Door is pretty much anybody can show up in AEW and here we saw KUSHIDA in a decent match against a former World Tag Team and TNT champion. KUSHIDA made Sky look somewhat ordinary and took a good win in 10:36 by pinfall with a Midnight Express. 60
KUSHIDA out performed Sky 63-49
KUSHIDA debuted with a Fan Favourite gimmick, rated great.

MJF is seen in a pre recorded segment in what is assumed to be his house. The room he is in is oppulent in it's furnishings and decorations and is bordering on a shrine to himself with various kinds of memorabilia associated with him... MJF says he is fuming with what happened at the Casino Battle Royal... Sami Zayn won by a fluke and it should have been MJF who was in the ring from bell to bell... because he is better than everyone... and everyone knows it. 87
MJF looked good.

AEWWomens.jpg.68fd2db6b7086dd4ed4d2c0ba1f9f0d2.jpg
JamieHayter.jpg.707770b1b43efd2f128669a339d77ea9.jpg v ThunderRosa8.jpg.3c1f30291a6faedc183af2cd2045a76e.jpg
WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Jamie Hayter (champion, with Rebel and Dr Britt Baker D.M.D.) v Thunder Rosa (with Konnan, Diamanté and Mercedes Martinez)

A decent match. Hayter just about had he better of it, but Rosa was resilient, tenacious and nearly won the title back on a couple of occasions. Hayter retained though in 16:08 by pinfall with a Falcon Arrow. 63
Rosa seemed off her game.
Hayter benefitted from public support.

Konnan stays in the ring after the match. He says it's a matter of time until LAX get the Women's World Championship... whether that is Thunder Rosa, Diamanté or Mercedes Martinez... He switches focus by saying their first priority is winning the World Trios Championship from Blackpool Combat Club... He says his boys are the number one ranked trio and he's going to take the fight to the streets... just where LAX like it and just where the BCC like it... he says it will be gang warfare. 56

KennyOmega3.jpg.f1894f5fad26449ff739b747d9f25db1.jpgSamiZayn12.jpg.2cd1647146639c825a85922e7ab27e0a.jpgOrangeCassidy6.jpg.a350703bc3f425f4699105c990cad57a.jpg v KonosukeTakeshita1.jpg.94af3ccf5433a9c94271a5e3796a295c.jpgMiro(6).jpg.d47f5cad1ea502f309267ffc05b567f5.jpgAdamCopeland.jpg.dd2a40802f7520c9e48d9d92d02e1eb3.jpg
AEW LEAGUE
Timeless Ensemble (Kenny Omega, Sami Zayn & Orange Cassidy) v Black Lotus (Konosuke Takeshita, Miro & Adam Copeland (TNT champion))

A very good match with really good performances from everybody, which made it hard to tell who was going to win this match. After plenty of back and forth between the two teams, the points went to Black Lotus in 15:14 when Miro made Cassidy pass out to Game Over. 75
Cassidy benefitted from a hot new move.
Zayn benefitted from public support.

The Forbidden Door opens once more and Zack Sabre Jr walks down to the ring... Sabre calls out Bryan Danielson and the World champion duly makes his way to the ring... Sabre says they've faced before in a classic but now he sees that Danielson is the World champion sunshine... so Sabre says why won't they do it again at Forbidden Door, but this time for the World Championship... Danielson says yes... yes... yes... he won before, he will again. 71
Zack Sabre Jr debuted with a Technical Wizard gimmick, rated very good.

SamoaJoe10.jpg.f51fa09a5fbec5bdad0b4c0bbed0e385.jpgNickNemeth(1).jpg.4d2d40472e249dcf448a6229a17cd699.jpg v PentaEl0M10.jpg.fec5df0a3f82c4e45e2a779cde3109d6.jpgFenix5.jpg.520933e6f05d00192a80da656fe78585.jpg
AEW LEAGUE
Team Swerve (Samoa Joe & Nick Nemeth) v The Golden Lion Club (Lucha Brothers (World Tag Team champions, with Alex Abrahantes))

It's almost become a given that Fénix will put in the performance of the night and be in the match of the night and it happened again to close out Dynamite. He's probably the hottest thing in AEW right now. Joe put up a fight, but Nemeth struggled and the World Tag Team champions proved too good to win the three points. Penta pinned Nemeth in 15:43 with an Assisted Fear Factor. 82 - match of the night
Joe 70, Nemeth 70, Penta 85, Fénix 92
Lucha Brothers are the first tag team to have had 10 matches, winning 8.

OWEN HART FOUNDATION MEN’S TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND

Red Velvet is backstage with Willow Nightingale and Red challenges Willow to a match next week. Willow smiles and says she will gladly beat her in the ring on Rampage next Friday night. 41

The Boys (with Dalton Castle) v Private Party

Not too bad of a match, but not well received by a crowd that needs some stimulation. Private Party won in 6:56 when Quen pinned Brandon after a Gin and Juice. 35
The crowd were turned off by two teams they have no interest in.

Hikaru Shida is now backstage with Renee Paquette… Shida says she’s a three time Women’s World champion because she is the best in AEW… and she will beat Julia Hart tonight to reach the Quarter Finals. 57

We see Anthony Ogogo backstage with Miro and the former Olympic boxing bronze medallist challenges the former TNT champion Miro to a match next week… Miro laughs, telling Ogogo this isn’t the boxing ring… it’s the wrestling ring and Ogogo will get hurt badly next week. 51
