His handshake was firm, old timey. Like a man who just made a deal for his life. I knew he felt his options were limited, and I was hopefully a part of the answer. Since his oldest son, David, hadn’t talked to him in six months, I was not only important for business, but also for mending his relationship. For me, it was the opportunity of a lifetime. New booker of World Class Championship Wrestling…Ken Mantell was out, and I was in. Me, a small time wrestler with little experience and just a stroke of luck given my relationship with David. I’ve known Big Dave since high school, when he was at Lake Dallas I was playing across town, but our relationship goes all the way back to middle school. As David began wrestling and the industry really told a hold of him, we stayed in contact, worked out together once in a while, and eventually he broke me into the business. I graduated from training with Dory Funk Jr. after he closed the old Amarillo-office in 1981. Same year I started taking bookings, go figure… I secured a couple dark matches with World Class in 1982, but nothing came of it despite my relationship with David. After Amarillo shut down, I had a hard time getting bookings, and had to continue to fall back on my day job. Finances held me back from pursuing more, unlike David, who had the industry in the palm of his hands, right up until last year… “The Yellow Rose of Texas” was on a collision course with NWA World Heavyweight champion, Ric Flair, in the winter of 1984. By the time the legendary feud with the Von Erichs against the Freebirds came to an end, David was on cruising on his way to a showdown with the world champ. He was also cruising to his first ever NWA world title victory, which certainly would have changed his career, but destiny just didn’t have things planned that way… After David returned home from a tour in Japan in February 1984, World Class was booking the great world title match… The Yellow Rose of Texas, the homegrown hero and eldest son of the Von Erich dynasty, hitting it off with Ric Flair, the epitome of everything David and his lifestyle were against. David wasn’t about flashy cars, big watches, or making sure three women were around his arms at one time. David was about real toughness, real grit, and real emotion. David represented everything Ric Flair hated, and boy did the people hate Ric Flair. Flair’s animosity shared throughout Texas blew through the roof in April of 1984, when he pinned David in a thirty-minute classic to retain the world’s title. For those in the business, a complete shocker. Everybody and their mother would have told you David was the next world champ, but behind the scenes, the world champ and Jim Crockett Jr. pulled the plug on that idea in the final hour and screwed Fritz out of his big pay day. I only talked to David weeks after it happened, but from what I heard he was completely gutted when he went backstage. He almost got into with Flair, who apparently ran his mouth back, and Fritz tried to calm him down, but nothing was doing. 48 hours later, David was back on to Japan and left Texas for the rest of the year. Dirt sheets ran rumors Fritz was reportedly beside himself about this, perhaps reminiscent of losing his first son Jack so tragically early on. Now, the apple of his eye, David, was out of the picture too, and refused to speak with his father. World Class continued on, writing off David just as any weasley promoter will, hardly mentioning him in fact, unless it was a brief reminder of David’s extended tour in Japan and around the wrestling world. The truth? David went on a two month bender, nearly died twice, and only got a grip back on reality after New Japan’s Tiger Hittori found David passed out in his hotel room and begged him to get himself together. By the end of the summer, it was reported David was working dates again for New Japan, and somehow found himself back into a rhythm in his wrestling career. “Listen, you’re the only hope I might have to get him back.” Fritz told me earlier, speaking of David. He was really showing me all his cards, not that I was really in a position of leverage in negotiations, but I knew Fritz wanted me, bad. Not sure how he was going to explain it to the rest of his company, but putting me in charge meant David was coming back. And perhaps more importantly than helping repair his broken relationship with his son, but it meant bringing back serious heat the company found itself slowly losing since David’s departure. His younger brothers, Kerry and Kevin, did what they could to keep the momentum going, including Kerry losing his title match against Flair for the gold, but none of them were quite like David. “I give you the book, and you run everything by me, you hear?” Of course I would “clue the boss in” on what I was planning, but this was my one shot. Unlike David, not all of us get a second (or third) chance at life. Some of us only get one opportunity to break through our glass ceiling and become something greater. For me, I knew this would be it, or I would be back in trade school and settling down with a fine gal to start a home. And I was okay with that, as long as I knew my failure was met with the hardest I had ever worked in my life, even if every bridge I had ever built was burned in the end…

 2. Hey thanks so much. I like WAR in this mod and they get no love, even from me lol. Agree with Shamrock too, he was really a big miss in the industry IMO. Could have been a crossover star but I know the perception of UFC at the time and what it was it a complete 180 from today in 2021. I also think the landscape in this timeline presents him with much more opportunity to breakout as a star, and WSW is definitely the perfect environment for him. Have to think, WSW presents their product like it’s actually a sport. And for them, Shamrock is simply a crossover sports star, from the sport of pro wrestling to the sport of mixed martial arts. Although I think their main events need a bit off a debuff on stats, they are getting very highly rated matches every show... lots of high 90’s. Ah, I realize I missed adding it, will have to update soon. Thanks for checking my mod out, hope to hear more of your thoughts!
 3. Thanks Keyser, I hope you enjoy not only the story but the data as well and feel it does a good job simulating in-game. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks YanNep, I hope you still feel the same way after you give it a few plays! Would love to hear your thoughts!

Fans were fervently behind the Patriot to kick things off, as the baby face came out the gates hot and in control. Yokozuna was able to take things outside, however, where he gained the upper hand and was able to use his sheer power and weight to punish the masked American. Once back in the ring, the Patriot pushed to fight back… chants of USA bounced off the walls as the fans were quick to give Patriot their support. He was able to stagger the big man a few times, each time nearing in a position to put Yokozuna away. But the sumo wasn’t going down that easy. The champ held on with a couple near falls, only for Patriot to seal a victory with a Patriot Missile off the top rope! After the three count, the crowd erupted with cheers as the Patriot held his new USWA Southern Heavyweight high and basked in his title win with the fans. After all was said and done, it was clear this one had some fantastic heat and had some great wrestling. Nashville was off to a strong start and the crowd was already hot! Winner and NEW champion: The Patriot in 15:26
63

The Rock N’ Roll Express vs. The Titanics With crowd buzzing after The Patriot’s title victory, the energy just kept on rolling when The Rock N’ Roll Express high-fived out the curtain and hit the ring with an attitude. The fans continue to cheer as they hyped the crowd up before the match and entertained them by mocking the arrival of The Titanics in the ring. Unfortunately, this may have given the big men a little extra motivation to bring the pain early on, quickly stopping any game plan the legendary tag team had entering this one and dominating the early goings. The action could be highlighted with the big bump off the top turnbuckle Ricky Morton hit when Giant John essentially chucked him off the top! Luckily for the Rock N’ Rollers, Robert Gibson was able to break up the pinfall. And, afterwards, Gibson led the babyface charge for his team, wrapping up a successful comeback after hitting Big Fred with a beautiful Double Dropkick! With some decent wrestling, this one carried good heat and kept the crowd hot. Winner: The Rock N’ Roll Express in 12:23
54

El Texano, Kevin Northcutt, and Michael Modest vs. Jamie Knoble, Lash LeRoux and The Navajo Warrior As the show was settling in, six-man tag action was next on the docket and provided a break to an action packed start of the night. The babyface trio of Jamie Knoble, Lash LeRoux, and The Navajo Warrior came out first to a lackluster reaction. The heel trio of El Texano, Kevin Northcutt, and Michael Modest didn’t garner much reaction as well, but nevertheless all three men hit the ring to do a job… at least one did. That man was Lash LeRoux, who took the pinfall from El Texano after the Tex-Mex cowboy hat-wearing veteran closed out the match when he rolled-up the “Ragin’ Cajun” with a La Magistral to pick-up the win! Winner: El Texano, Michael Modest and Kevin Northcutt in 7:35
36

Southern Rebels vs. Tatanka & Tito Santana Two-man tag team action followed,, working to get the crowd a bit riled up again for the upcoming bouts. The crowd witnessed Southern Rebels, the team of Chris Hamrick and Tracy Smothers work against Tatanka and Tito Santana. The contest was less than exciting, with the Southern Rebels failing to rile up the crowd as much as they would have liked. The fans supported the baby faces though, and were satisfied to watch them leave the victors in this one. The match ended after Tanaka hit the End of the Trail on Hamrick after things dragged out for almost ten-minutes. Winner: Tatanka & Tito Santana in 9:47
38

A Big Tennessee Welcome! It sure wasn’t long before Jerry “The King” Lawler, Tennessee’s, and more importantly, Memphis’ own superstar. He’ll be the first to let you know that, of course, and certainly let the crowd in Nashville know it. In classic Lawler fashion, he enticed the crowd and shamed them for their Nashville roots. Obviously, as everyone knows, Memphis is much better. In fact, Memphis is the greatest city in America! And it’s no coincidence the greatest wrestler in the world resides there as well! Speaking of which, Lawler reminded the crowd who wasn’t the greatest wrestler ever, ”Rowdy” Roddy Piper! So to help the world champion get settled in, “The King” says he wants to give Piper “a big Tennessee welcome”! It took Lawler only a few sentences before the USWA Unified World Heavyweight champion was out to rebuttal! The fans in Nashville chewed up Piper, likely the hottest babyface of the night. And he verbally chewed up Lawler, getting “The King” nearly bouncing off the ropes in dismay and comical frustration. At the end, Piper got the last laugh and received an ovation before hitting the back.
79

Honky Tonk Man vs. Kevin Von Erich Speaking of Tennessee natives, out next was Honky Tonk Man ahead of his singles match against one of the USWA’s most beloved wrestlers, ”High-Flying” Kevin Von Erich! The supposed Nashville-native, always sporting one of his classic Elvis Presley knock-off suits, entered the ring to a strong reaction from the “hometown crowd”. Prior to the night, Honky Tonk called shows in Nashville, “his favorite night of the year”, and always tries to bring something a little special for the fans in attendance. Considerably “pro-Nashville”, Honky got the most positive reactions he is going to get in USWA playing grounds, on Kevin Von Erich, a product of Denton, Texas, was still well-received, but just lacked a bit in that overall-arching support this time around. This led to an interesting bout. A match that emphasized perhaps the story-telling aspect of what was happening in the ring. Honky Tonk really played up to the idea that he was in his home territory, including demanding the referee give him some sort of “home field advantage” no matter what it was. Kevin wasn’t lying down easy though, and was able to rally back against a couple Honky Tonk onslaughts to keep things pretty square down the middle. While Kevin flew off the ropes and the turnbuckle a few times, Honky Tonk tried to play recipient but has never really been one to gel perfectly with high-flying opponents. Regardless, Kevin’s fast-paced offense was too much for Honky Tonk to keep up with, as he would succumb to a Diving Crossbody off the top rope right before the pinfall! Despite this match-up not being a complete perfect fit, the fans showed great engagement in this one and got some decent wrestling as a result. Winner: Kevin Von Erich in 17:37
47

The King of Nashville Fresh off his segment with the USWA champ, Jerry “The King” Lawler was back out once more, this time apparently ahead of his much anticipated singled match against ”Yellow Rose” David Von Erich. This time, Lawler was met with considerably more boos than prior, and it was clear the fans weren’t excited to see “The King” back out once more. Lawler demanded the fans quiet down and give him the opportunity to speak once again… besides, who else would they rather hear talking in front of them. For King, it was quite a treat for the Nashville crowd, reminding them how lucky they should all feel. The one unlucky son-of-a-bitch tonight, however? His opponent coming up, David Von Erich! He gives more choice words in regards to “The Yellow Rose of Texas”, calling him a buffoon and a nobody; a washed-up dirty red-haired rag doll that just can’t find its way to the dumpster! But tonight, Lawler will prove what a piece of garbage David Von Erich is, and promises to gift him back to the Nashville crowd “The King” knows will take any piece of trash they can take!
71

David Von Erich vs. Jerry Lawler Once David Von Erich made his way out to the ring, it was clear there was fantastic heat built up with the crowd, who didn’t care if David was from Texas, or even if he were from New York, they were excited for somebody to kick Lawler’s ass! “The Yellow Rose of Texas” hit the ring with energy and made sure to hit the ground running. Von Erich bounces Lawler from side-to-side, before “The King” was able to maneuver his way back into the competition by putting the referee in front of the onslaught of David Von Erich. With the referee knocked down, Lawler seized his moment. After some rest holds, Von Erich pushed for a rally back, but was sidelined when Lawler forced the referee to take a bump, again! This time, Lawler grabbed his heavy, gold-plated crown (which had been conspicously sitting under the bottom rope the entire match) and stoned David across head! With blood pouring down the front of his face, David struggled to come back, and nearly succeeded one last time before Lawler was able to sneak in a heavy groin shot and finished him off with a Piledriver smack-dab in the center of the ring! As the bell rung, Lawler received a chorus of disapproval as hesitation was in the voice of the ring announcer to declare the victory. With his arm raised, Lawler taunted the fans once more, before brothers Chris Von Erich and Kevin Von Erich hit the ring to check on their older brother. By the end of the segment, “The King” had let everyone know he was next in line for the world title and wouldn’t stop until it was back strapped around his waist! Winner: Jerry Lawler in 19:46
60

USWA Tag Team Championship The Bruise Brothers © vs. J and J Connection More championship action was in line next, as the defending USWA Tag Team champions, The Bruise Brothers, put their belts on the line against the recently reunited J & J Connection. Former USWA Tag Team champions in years past, Jeff Jarrettt and Jesse James have come back together for a common purpose: achieving gold again. Jarrett, who last year reigned as USWA world champion for a measly couple weeks, was looking to get back on top of his game after a hard fall. James, interested in earning gold once more to get his motor back in gear. But it was clear in this match that the two just simply weren’t on the same page. And frustration was brewing. Jarret, in particular, took issue with how Jesse James was handling their offensive attack against The Bruise Brothers, which had stalled to virtually none midway through the bout. By the end, Jarrett was trying to mount a comeback on his own, and refused to give Jesse the hot tag the crowd was waiting for. As the wave of emotion failed to spark, Jarrett was left succumbing to a three count after a fatal Chokeslam from Don Bruise. Despite the difficulties of J & J to remain steadfast in this one, this match brought good heat and some decent wrestling to the card. Winner and STILL champions: The Bruise Brothers in 13:44
52

Big Ron Studd & Sgt. Craig Pittman vs. Chris Harris & Tommy Rogers Another tag team bout followed, this one with much less on the line. In fact, nothing on the line, besides pride and respect in this one. Sgt. Craig Pittman is a man who knows a bit about respect, and he gave his babyface opponents none in this one, including a spot where he forced and rubbed ”Wildcat” Chris Harris’ face into one of the middle turnbuckles. Big Ron Studd was the one who got the biggest rub here, after he finished Tommy Rogers off with a big two-handed chokeslam in the center of the ring. Winners: Big Ron Studd & Sgt. Craig Pittman in 7:25
32

Bob Holly & Erik Watts vs. The Headhunters Attempting to lift the crowd back-up before nearing the end of the show, the team of ”’Bama” Bob Holly and ”Cowboy” Erik Watts made solid work of The Headhunters, despite their clear lack of chemistry in this short match. The babyfaces were able to rally back against the gigantic Headhunters, who always use their considerable size in attempts to dominate their tag matches early on. It was the veteran fortitude of Bob Holly who was able to help rally his team back and lock this one down with a solid victory. Winners: Bob Holly and Erik Watts in 8:01
52

A Honky Tonk Night! Out from the curtains next is USWA Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter who received a welcomed reaction from the fans. In the ring, Slaughter thanks the crowd for making it out tonight, and recaps the next couple of matches left on the card, including garnering a strong reaction for the night’s main event for the USWA Unified World Heavyweight championship. He would soon be interrupted, unsurprisingly, this time by Honky Tonk Man, who carried out his acoustic guitar and demanded a chair be put in the ring. Once in the ring, Honky Tonk claims it’s time for he and Sgt. Slaughter to pay tribute to the beautiful city of Nashville, Tennessee! He clears his throat and asks for Slaughter to hold the microphone while he sings, which Slaughter comically obliges. Honky Tonk begins singing some version of Elvis’ ”Can’t Help Falling In Love”, twisting some words around to make it about himself and the city of Nashville. Slaughter eventually cuts him off though and snaps back to the idea that this obviously wasn’t what he came out here for, and comically demands Honky Tonk exit the ring and to quit his ridiculous singing. Honky Tonk doesn’t want to depart, and promises to stop singing if Slaughter makes a promise of his own. He says he’s clearly the next number one contender for the world title, which is ludacris considering he lost earlier in the night, but Honky Tonk remains delusional and is insistent with the USWA Commissioner. Slaughter plays to the crowd, and gives Honky Tonk some choice words much to the delight of fans in attendance. The “Nashville-native” just can’t seem to get his way, and remains incredibly persistent, eventually putting his hands on the Commissioner! With his hands on Slaughter’s collars, Honky Tonk quickly realizes he made a big mistake, and tries to amend the situation with the former U.S. Marine, but the Vietnam veteran is already past the point of no return, and clocks Honky Tonk out cold with a big right hand! Honky Tonk is dragged backstage by USWA officials as Sgt. Slaughter thanks the fans once more and gives a big send off!
69

Bodacious Bart, Fidel Sierra & Tommy Rich vs. Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk & Terry Gordy Quick-fire triple tag team action was next, as the team of Terry Funk, Terry Gordy, and Dory Funk Jr. met the combined forces of Bodacious Bart, Fidel Sierra, and Tommy Rich. The heel trio certainly did not enter with much experience working together, unlike their opponents in the opposite corner, but still put together an impressive enough offense to give the babyfaces as run for their money! Sierra facing off with Terry Funk in particular highlighted the match, as well as a brief showdown in which aging Dory Funk Jr. was able to get the best of Tommy Rich. Good, hardcore fun ran the gambet here, finishing with Terry Funk nailing a Piledriver on Fidel Sierra. Winners: Terry Funk, Terry Gordy, and Dory Funk Jr. in 12:53
63

Chris Adams & Sid Vicious vs. Chris Von Erich & Kerry Von Erich The semi-main event for our Big Night in Nashville was now upon us, and this one had some great heat right from the get-go. The Von Erich boys received a big welcome from the Nashville-faithful, and had the fans unwavering support the entire match. Kerry Von Erich has to act as the powerhouse in this one, working hard to ensure he was the only one matching-up with the intimidating and monstrous Sid Vicious. And although his heart was big, his efficiency in the ring was lackluster as Sid was able to “one-up” Kerry almost the entirety of the match! The two even took their fight to the outside and one point, culminating in Sid powerslamming Kerry’s back right on top of the guardrail to the crowd wincing at the sight! Meanwhile, “Gentleman” Chris Adams was able to work over Chris Von Erich most of the match, even toying with Kerry some of the match, taunting him as he beat his little brother in the heel corner. But, never say never, one can read between the lines of professional wrestling annals. The same can be applied to specific points in any match as well, for as soon as you think the baby face can’t comeback from the torture he’s received thus far, there is always a chance. And for Adams and Vicious, all it took was for them to get ahead of themselves with where this one was going… the rally from the Von Erich boys was short, sweet, and simple. Perhaps a bit abrupt, Kerry pulled the pin fall out on his nemesis Chris Adams after a Tornado Punch from out of nowhere! After the three count, Adams looked in disbelief while his tag partner slowly processed what had just happened. Winners: Chris Von Erich & Kerry Von Erich in 13:53
63

Fingerpoke of Doom? As quickly as Kerry and his brother were declared the victories, Sid Vicious and Chris Adams were all over them again, pushing them into their own respective corners and delivering a mudhole beatdown. Fans were belligerent, angry with the heels for believing this was a righteous cause, even as Sid had the referee’s collars in his hands, denouncing the poor guy for his decision. The match was won, but it was perhaps a Pyrrhic victory for Chris Von Erich, who suffered a "vicious" beatdown from "Sycho" Sid! But, big brothers have to defend their little brothers, and Kerry Von Erich makes a stand against Sid! Pushing Chris Adams out of the ring, Kerry turns Sid around by the shoulder and puts a finger in his chest, telling him he isn't going to back down! Sid is furious, and tries to put his hands around Kerry's throat, but the "Texas Tornado" blocks the grip and kicks Sid right in the chest before wailing him with a Tornado Elbow right in the center of the ring! As Sid rolls out for safety, Kerry attends to Chris and gives "Sycho" Sid a sickening stare down!
57

USWA Unified World Heavyweight Roddy Piper © def. Jake Roberts Nashville’s main event of the evening started with ovatious cheers for USWA Unified World Heavyweight champion “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, and gleaming displeasure for challenger Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Roberts, in particular, revealed in the negativity, and really it ate it up with the Nashville crowd. One could not, however, argue against Roberts’ ability to entertain in the ring. He fed into Piper’s tactics all match, giving them what they wanted in Roberts’ selling and reaction to Piper’s offense, while also cleverly taking off big pay-offs to the champion’s advantage. But “The Snake” is certainly very experienced by this point in his career, and knew coming in most of Piper’s classic moves, and thus came up with new counters to them in preparation for their showdown. While Roddy looked hot early on, his advantage slowly slipped away while Roberts clawed back. When the referee took a bump, you knew something was up Jake’s sleeve! He jumped on the opportunity to nail Roddy square in the groin, sending him to the mat. Roberts proceeded to take out a pair of brass knuckles he has been known to use, and theatrically played up the moment he would nail Piper over the forehead! As Roddy made his way to his feet… Roberts jolted him with a big right! Piper hit the mat facefirst, squirming in pain. Seconds later, blots of blood appeared below. Jake placed the brass knuckles back in his pants and hung out over the side ropes, relishing in the moment while also catching his breath. As the referee slowly came to, Roberts quickly moved Piper out of the area of the “crime scene”, and sent Roddy right into the top turnbuckle (which has previously been exposed!) This gave Roberts the perfect alibi for Piper’s sudden crimson mask, as the champion’s forehead bounced right off the sharp exposed metal! The challenger took awhile, perhaps showing a bit of age in this prized moment, but soon had Piper in a headlock position… only to get pushed directly into the referee and back into the exposed corner! This time, the referee felt the brunt of the hit! Now on the ground, Roberts was in no-man land with no referee! Piper showed heart, willing himself to trouble Jake’s opportunity, but it was the appearance of Jerry “The King” Lawler who really made something of it! The King suddenly ran into the ring as soon as Roberts and Piper were back on their feet, and nailed Jake right over the head with his coveted crown! Piper was caught off guard, as Lawler ran in from behind him, but couldn’t think much besides throwing himself on top of Roberts as the referee barely came to… one… two… three! Piper reclaims the title as Lawler ran back up the aisle-way! 5. Wow, this is a lot to take in already. Between the roster, the graphics, and everything in between, you've already put a lot of work in, clearly. Looks like you are merging belts though? Hard to believe you will only have a handful of titles for how large your roster is?

 8. Thanks for the feedback! Obviously some mistakes I will need to fix. Impossible for me to screen all of the biographies I have created prior to the title histories, so yes I am missing some. I also know I am missing Royal Rumble history and King of the Ring history in the WWF, I do plan on adding those as well. All of these mistakes were not intentional. And Michael Cole, yes I might give him a bit of a boost. At this point I would say a long save is completely possible with this database. If you are looking for future workers...unfortunately I am not sure how quickly I will get to it. I've taken my foot off the pedal of this project for now, slowly picking at it currently. I will update this thread when there is a new release but may not be for a couple months with everything I have going on in my life currently.

After our introduction, episode two of USWA Championship Wrestling is underway, another episode taped in the Surry County Fairgrounds in North Carolina! Excitement is broadcast from the crowd as our announcers, Lance Russell, Jimmy Valiant, and Dave Brown welcome viewers at home. They also welcome USWA Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter to the ring. Waiting for him is a wooden folding table, three chairs, red drapes over the ring mat and onto the apron, and our championship contract for the USWA Unified World Heavyweight championship at USWA Big Night in Nashville, just as week away! He welcomes the fans in attendance to the television taping and promises them an exciting show, and more importantly, an exciting night of wrestling in Nashville coming up! After quickly running through the formalities, Slaughter welcomes his two main eventers to the ring. Out first is ”Rowdy” Roddy Piper with his championship over his shoulder. The fans are excited to see the champ, who is all smiles. He breaks the Commish’s plan when he snatches the microphone out of the Sergant’s hands and proceeds to give his own snarky introduction to his opponent, Jake “The Snake” Roberts! The number one contender timedly makes his way to the ring, but still holds a level of confidence in the face of Piper. Sarge thanks both of them for showing up tonight and gets straight to business. He provides a quick overview of the contract and what they’re signing, but before he can finish, Piper interrupts him. He says he wants one more stipulation added to the contract! That if he beats Jake Roberts in Nashville, “The Snake” gets no more title shots as long as he is champion! Piper laughs in the face of Jake, who reacts chaotically to this stipulation, throwing a fit in the face of the Commissioner. The Sarge considers the proposition, and then asks the fans for their opinion. The response is unanimous, of course Jake should not get any more title shots! Confident in the feedback, Sarge is about to confirm the decision when Roberts leaps over the table and begins pounding Roddy with rights! The fans erupt as Slaughter moves out of the way briefly and Roberts is able to get his licks in! Piper is on the defensive as they roll in the ring until Slaughter makes the safe decision to separate the two men for what he can. Other officials make their way out to separate the two, but Slaughter stops them and says they haven’t signed the contract! As Jake is being forced out, Roddy grabs the microphone and says that’s no problem, he knows Jake won’t mind his signature, and signs both contracts!
82

J and J Connection vs. The Titanics Two USWA home grown fan favorites, Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James team for the first time in two years since their successful run as a tag team from 1992 to 1993. J and J Connection, as they were called, seemed to be back in the groove once again, both committing to working together in order to get the kind of momentum they need to slingshot into the USWA title scene. Jarrett was looking forward to more future runs as USWA Unified World Heavyweight champion since his failed one month run early last year. James, looking for his first. They took on the mammoth team of Big Fred and Giant John, collectively known as The Titanics. It was clear J and J were happy to be on USWA Championship Wrestling television for the first time, while the Titanics were as pissed off as a mother gorilla protecting her young. The babyfaces pulled through, however, when Jeff Jarrett finished off Big Fred with The Stroke], sealing the win for J and J. Afte their victory, Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James took to the microphone to cut a quick promo. Ahead of their tag team title match against the current champions, The Bruise Brothers, J and J Connection say nothing and nobody stands in their way of becoming the next tag team champions. Jarrett tells Jesse he’s so excited to be back on top with his “brother from another mother”, and the two share a high-five after sending off the fans with a one-liner about the Bruise Brothers!
46

Chris Adams, Jake Roberts, and Honky Tonk Man vs. David Von Erich, Kerry Von Erich, and Kevin Von Erich Some big-time, six-man tag team action was up next for USWA Championship Wrestling, as The Von Erichs met with the combination of Chris Adams, Jake Roberts and Honky Tonk Man! The fans in attendance were surely behind the boys from Denton, as perhaps the most famous group of brothers in wrestling history were competing together on television once again. They were in sync the entire match, showing off some classic teamwork fans of the USWA have become accustomed to over the years. Kerry got a chance to square off with Adams, a bit of a revisit to their singles match from the first episode of USWA CW. Meanwhile, David got his hands on Jake once more since their match from last week, while Kevin and Honky Tonk got a couple minutes of their own. A few stories were told all throughout the match, until things culminated in a Von Erich family victory after Kevin pinned Honky Tonk following a big flying crossbody. Winner: David Von Erich, Kerry Von Erich, and Kevin Von Erich in 15:09
60

Jerry Lawler vs. Roddy Piper The second ever main event to a USWA Championship Wrestling episode was a momentous opportunity for Jerry “The King” Lawler. An opportunity on his company’s biggest stage to pin the USWA Unified World Heavyweight champion, albeit, in a non-title sanctioned match. But nonetheless, if Lawler could pull off the victory over Piper, just as he had been alluding to having the ability to do, it would automatically make him a contender for the world title. ”Rowdy” Roddy Piper would have something to say about this, keeping up with a motivated Lawler throughout the entire bout, never allowing his heel opposite to gain much of an upper-hand. Thus, Lawler resorts, as he always does, to underhanded tactics. He plays up to the referee a lot during this bout, looking to find any and every excuse for the ref to either give him the advantage in the ring, or to completely eliminate him from spectating. And as both men were working their way through the top of their arsenal, Lawler appeared to have the moment before him. The champion, dizzied, and Lawler, ready to seize his opportunity… up until that snake Jake Roberts hits the ring! Less than a week ahead of their showdown in Nashville, Roberts takes to the ring and begins clobbering Piper like a mad man! Lawler is caught off guard, but comes to his senses and pulls Roberts off of Piper! The referee calls for the bell, citing a DQ victory for Piper! Meanwhile, Lawler is pushing Roberts in the ring and the fans erupt as Roberts knocks Lawler down with a big right hand! He begins laying the law down on “The King”, until Piper comes to and nails Roberts in the back of the head! Revenge is on the mind of the champion, who beats both men out of the ring and is able to stand tall at the end of his disqualification victory! Lawler walks away furious, shouting that he was robbed of his chance to pin the champion! Roberts, laughing as his chaos ensues. Piper, a fire in his eye to withstand both men determined on the path towards gold. Winner: Jake Roberts in 11:50
67

Many are in disbelief in the recent decision within Hollywood Championship Wrestling to turn Hollywood Hulk Hogan face once again! Certainly the entire pro wrestling world thought Hogan was on the beginning of an incredible heel run with the company when he declared himself HCW Hollywood champion last year. He has been the centerpoint of HCW broadcasting since the summer of last year, but insider sources are telling us HCW and FOX have made an abrupt exit from putting all their chips in on Hogan and will be looking elsewhere on the roster for the figurehead for the time to come. We certainly expect a major HCW star to likely turn heel on HCW television sometime soon, especially since the Kliq have been the babyface stars for the past six months. It’s a wonder how quickly we may start to see tension between Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and X-Pac on the next coming episodes of HCW Monday Night Heat. (Author’s Note: I have simulated this mod plenty of times and never have I seen HCW make this move of moving off Hogan a couple weeks into the game. Absolute mad lad AI, can’t believe it!) Shocking developments in the Rodney Anoa’i contract negotiations involving HCW, NWA, and USWA. A source has confirmed that the man more commonly known as Yokozuna will remain with his home in the South, and the USWA, who just started a new television program on syndicated networks. USWA was willing to match some of Rodney’s highest contract offers from HCW and NWA, although sources also indicate the bidding as not as intense as previously anticipated. Perhaps a game of chicken that never even got off the ground, as HCW and NWA both bowed out of negotiations early on allowing USWA to firm-up a true main event position with Yokozuna. The contact is reportedly for the next 3 years. World Star Wrestling’s 1996 New Year’s Spectacular was headlined by an incredible Scott Hall and Curt Hennig match where “Razor” Scott Hall walked out as new WSW North American champion, taking the vacated belt off the market and onto the shoulder of the WSW fan favorite. The two went over twenty-five minutes in a close bout, finishing with a Razor’s Edge on Hennig to wrap up Hall’s victory. Of course, this likely takes him out of WSW world title contention, and it’s likely Hall will hold the belt for an extended period of time. Other matches worth nothing on the card included great matches like Owen Hart over Shane Douglas and a Brian Pillman win over Chris Candido. The PPV earned a 5.78 rating. A new stable in NWA’s developmental territory, Atlantic Championship Wrestling, appears to be forming. It will be led by head trainer Lt. James Earl Wright, leading the young team of Danny Doring, Charlie Haas, and brother Russ Haas. They were collectively be referred to as The Gremlins.

It’s the first ever episode of USWA Championship Wrestling, taped in the Surry County Fairgrounds in North Carolina! 740 proud attendees have the small venue almost packed as Lance Russell welcomes viewers at home to a special edition of USWA wrestling. The Memphis announcing legend is back on television, proud to announce he is happy to be kicking off the first edition of USWA Championship Wrestling, and calls it a glorious day in USWA history. Alongside him: wildman Jimmy Valiant and commentator Dave Brown. They are quick to get to the ring where USWA Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter is awaiting with the microphone at his chest. The commissioner welcomes all of the fans in attendance and viewers at home to the program, and says he is excited to be a part of wrestling history tonight! It’s not long before Jake “The Snake” Roberts quietly makes his way out, stopping Slaughter in his tracks once in the ring. Roberts has a microphone with him as well and seems a bit translucent with his presence in the moment, yet tells Slaughter to “cut the fluff” and “let’s get down to business.” He wants “Rowdy” Roddy Piper at the upcoming USWA Big Night in Nashville event, and demands Slaughter gets the contract signed for a rematch against Piper. Slaughter reminds fans of Roberts’ loss of the USWA Unified World Heavyweight championship last month at the Big Night in Lexington event, and prods Roberts a bit about his loss. Soon after, the champ himself, Roddy Piper, makes his first televised appearance on USWA CW The fans go nuts as Piper hits the ring with some pep in his step and gladly advises Slaughter to “sign Jake’s death wish!”. The two begin exchanging “pleasantries” for the rest of the segment, before the Commish gets between both men and directs them to get the back. The takeaway here? Piper defends the world title against Jake in Nashville, just three weeks away!
87

Chris Adams vs. Kerry Von Erich It’s a USWA classic kicking things off in the first ever USWA Championship Wrestling match! The hometown kid, or man at this point, ”The Texas Tornado” Kerry Von Erich, grapples with one of his long-time rivals, ”The Gentlemen” Chris Adams! The two hold nothing back as they come out swinging, quickly touching all four corners of the ring before taking business outside where they light it up in front of the fans. The crowd is certainly behind Kerry, who has remained an incredible popular independent star since WCCW merged to help form the USWA, and has become the most decorated USWA champion in company history. It is only right he is leading the charge for the promotion in its first USWA CW Match-up, similar to how it felt right watching Kerry strike “The Gentlemen” square in the temple with his powerful Tornado Punch to get the three-count! Winner: Kerry Von Erich in 8:46
67

A King and His Kingdom Returning from commercial break, Jerry “The King” Lawler has made his way to the ring with a microphone in hand, as he is apparently first to come out for the upcoming tag team match according to the announce team. Jerry holds nothing back, quickly disparaging the local North Carolina crowd and begins to rant against the entire USWA roster. He names all of the company’s top stars off, and one-by-one gives his more-than-honest opinion on what they mean to “The King”. He roasts everyone (except coincidentally his tag team partner tonight), holding back no punches until he finishes with the champion, ”Yellow Rose” David Von Erich! He tells the fans “Dirty Dave” hasn’t been relevant since the 1980’s, and he can’t believe he is in the main event tonight against Jake Roberts, and “The King” isn’t! In a bit of a comedic ending, Lawler’s lambasting is cutoff when his tag team, Yokozuna makes his way to the ring. Lawler lets the big man hear it for cutting him off but the two soon let tensions settle when their babyface opponents begin on their way out.
78

Jerry Lawler & Yokozuna vs. Roddy Piper & The Patriot Roddy Piper and The Patriot came out to the ring hot, with the fans fully behind them. Piper was eyeing Lawler the entire time, while Patriot was whooping the fans into a frenzy, all chanting "USA! USA!". Four of the USWA’s big stars collided in an evenly matched tag team bout, highlighted by Patriot and Yokozuna coming to blows ahead of their USWA Southern Heavyweight title match in Nashville. It was Piper, though, who fed off the energy of the crowd and put out a hot babyface tag-in against Lawler, the man who trashed him just minutes before. Things were looking to go the hot scot’s way until Lawler got the referee to take a corner bout. With Yokozuna and Patriot occupied on the outside, this gave way to Jake Roberts making his way out! He drew the ire of the fans as he lined up Piper with a headshot of his own title belt! As Roberts threw the title to the side and slid to safety, the referee came to, just in time for Lawler to wrap Piper up with a Piledriver to seal the win! Winner: Jerry Lawler and Yokozuna in 13:51
60

David Von Erich vs. Jake Roberts Our main event of the evening featured the oldest Von Erich son taking on the current number one contender for the world title. For David Von Erich, an opportunity to leapfrog over the competition and make a rightful case as the number one contender and win the USWA Unified World Heavyweight title one final time. For Jake "The Snake" Roberts, the chance to further his case as next world champion and earn the honors an eighth time. No matter the winner, it was a fine two showcase of two of USWA’s biggest stars, and the fans were excited for their main event of the night. A small percentage of diehards rallied behind the heel in Roberts, who resorted to classic tactics to get ahead early in the match, such as eye-poking, ear-pulling, and even a kick to the groin when the referee had his back turned. The “Yellow Rose of Texas”, however, certainly wasn’t going down easy, and after an initial failed baby face rally, was able to secure the comeback he was looking for and heated up with some powerful lariats sending Roberts to the mat. He readied for a big leg drop off the ropes but Roberts rolled out of his way. Jake fell into the referee David Manning and the two began fumbling around with one another. As Von Erich made it to his feet, the timing was somehow perfect for Jerry Lawler to hit the ring and nail David over the back of the head with his gold crown! The fans booed as Lawler fled to the back as quickly as he made his presence known, while Roberts jumped on the opportunity to finish "Yellow Rose" off with hard-nosed DDT. And so it was, Jake Roberts earned the victory, though tainted means, and David Von Erich was left holding the back of his head as blood began spotting the mat. Winner: Jake Roberts in 11:50
82

Hollywood Championship Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance, both looking to perhaps round out their upper card, have entered talks with Rodney Anoa’i. Still wrestling under his Yokozuna moniker on the independents, mainly with the United States Wrestling Association, has come up in hiring rumors a couple times over the past year, and was surprised to have not been offered a contract back in the summer of ‘94 when HCW was still forming. It seems finally the FOX-owned business is interested and would reportedly bring him on as a dominant addition to their roster. Many question whether Yokozuna, at this point in his career, is still fit to compete on television at a high level, famously leaving the WWF after failing to pass their physicals in late 1993. He would go on to join the USWA in December of that year, famously kicking off the wild winter of ‘93 in the USWA, when he traded the Unified Heavyweight title twice with Jerry Lawler and Jake Roberts in just a couple of weeks. To no surprise, Rodney is interested in signing with either HCW and NWA, and giving a bidding war that may ensue we are not confident the USWA will even attempt to keep Yokozuna on the books. The promotion has many of its stars signed to written contracts, but Yokozuna may not be worth what his value will be driven up to if either HCW or NWA don’t drop out of negotiations early on. But of course, never say never in the wacky world of pro wrestling… The new programs of the year for the National Wrestling Alliance are certainly coming to light. With Sting “Buried Alive” at Starrcade and The Undertaker ready to begin his “reign of terror” upon the NWA, many are looking to who will step up in the wake of the Stinger’s absence. Initial indications point to Ric Flair being the one to carry the torch for the NWA. Meanwhile, there are rumors of a new faction forming under the helm of the Undertaker and Percy Pringle. Likely to feature younger heels working as the lackeys of the Undertaker. We have seen a history of druids being used in Undertaker entrances, so it’s entirely possible whomever is selected is given some sort of “pagan” role within a faction. Randy Savage and The Great Muta are also due to come to a blow off since running the angle where Muta spit mist in the face of Elizabeth. The NWA ACW developmental territory has been expanding their roster, and has been working on open handshake deals with some raw talent on the independent circuits, opting not to sweep them up with written deals. Instead, we can expect to see Kevin Northcutt, Lash LeRoux, and Chris Harris getting some time in Atlantic Championship Wrestling in Georgia. One must expect if officials there are happy, long-term developmental deals could be in the works.

 14.
The following diary is a production of the Wrestling at War universe.

The Formation By 1987, the wrestling industry was changing at such a rapid pace. Not only concerning the talent and growing exposure to the national media, but also in terms of the promotions which were beginning to take shape and establish themselves for the years to come. The NATIONAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE had consolidated to Atlanta, Georgia, from which it began presenting itself as the number one single promotion in the world as opposed to various territories all over the country and world. The WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION had just ignited what would become known as "Macho Madness" with RANDY SAVAGE's victory and powerslam of ANDRE THE GIANT at WWF WrestleMania III. Meanwhile, up north, WORLD STAR WRESTLING had just formed thanks to an official alliance created by VERNE GAGNE and STU HART, combining their influence in Minnesota and Canada, and taking to Chicago, Illinois where a new "national promotion" was to be molded. Things were a bit short-sighted down in Texas. Memphis was delusional, believing the old territory system would never falter, even though it was right before their eyes. Mid-South had made the transition only a year ago, creating the UNIVERSAL WRESTLING FEDERATION in attempts to "go national" all by themselves. All three territories had hit a dead-end, while the rest of the industry was fully consolidating and creating their own dominating promotions in the various corners of the United States. All three promoters out of Texas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, certainly were smart enough to understand what was happening, but were a bit stubborn in their acknowledgement. By mid-1988, all three promotions were suffering, as the NWA was clearly the favorite and best drawing promotion in the South. The WWF was on a hot-streak, riding the wave of popularity provided by Randy Savage, and was effectively doing all it could to kill the territory system itself. WSW was the prime example of evolutionary adaptation, cultivating near national syndication with their television product based out of WGN-TV studios in Chicago, Illinois, while having since presented themselves as the number one wrestling promotion in America following its formation in August of 1987. It took a few meetings before word had gotten out. By the time the negotiations of consolidation between MEMPHIS WRESTLING, WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING, and the UWF had hit the dirt sheets and rumor mill, agreements had already been created, and the rumors became official news. In late 1988, the UNITED STATES WRESTLING ASSOCIATION was officially established; the future of real "wrasslin'". The promotion's first show promoted under the USWA banner was promoted for another month before it would finally take place on December 13th, 1988 in Houston, Texas. The main event was hyped up as the most important match in wrestling history, especially within all threerespective territories. The first true "super card" event to take place under the USWA banner saw Memphis' own, JERRY "The King" LAWLER become the first ever USWA Unified World Heavyweight champion, successfully defeating the home-town favorite, KERRY VON ERICH, and UWF's representation for their world title, "Dr. Death" STEVE WILLIAMS. The next year saw Lawler and Kerry Von Erich battle over the new unified world title, while Kerry only achieving victory once in April of 1989, where he defeated Lawler to become the second-ever unified champion, only to lose the belt twenty-four days later in Houston. Lawler dominated much of 1989, before CHRIS ADAMS won a hard-earned victory in October to win the belt for his first, and perhaps only time. Adams' title-run was shortlived as well, ironically cut off by Kerry himself, who took the belt in early November. USWA was immediately available in the Memphis, Texas, and rest of the Southern market. The Early 1990's From KERRY VON ERICH's second reign and into late 1990, he would feud for nearly a year with his older brother, DAVID VON ERICH, in what is regarded usually as one of the hottest feuds in USWA history. The two would trade the belt back-and-forth seven times throughout most of 1990, with Kerry finally winning the title for good in October of 1990, going on to hold the title for the next five-months. The next year would see the debut of JAKE "The Snake" ROBERTS, who had first competed in WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING before taking to the WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION in 1986. From there, Roberts was a prominent and very popular member of the WWF roster, but would be forced out of the company in 1991 due to personal issues concerning alcohol and recreational drugs. Returning to his roots, Roberts debuted in the USWA with a bang, and eventually won the unified title in July of 1991, winning it from a franchise face in JERRY LAWLER. As a new essential piece of the roster, Roberts was able to give the USWA even more legitimacy in the South, where the Roberts was beloved for his mysterious persona and pet snake he would greet live crowds with. From 1991 to 1992, Roberts dominated the main event scene with multiple title victories, defeating and losing to the likes of Kerry Von Erich, the HONKY TONK MAN, and, eventually losing a steamed-rivalry between he and Jerry Lawler. Leading the company into 1993, Lawler was forced to deal with the debut of the USWA's biggest, and most important signing in their short history. Following VINCE MCMAHON's conviction in the summer of 1993, one of the WWF's biggest stars, "Rowdy" RODDY PIPER was ready to get the hell out of Stamford. Piper found himself in a peculiar situation, just like many workers in the WWF following the trial, but the Scotsman ended with the most unique result, and contract, of any other wrestler in the industry. Looking to sign Roddy Piper as their next big star and attraction for their tours across the South, the USWA coalition was able to fund most of his contract through private investment from multiple millionaires whom had previously helped fund the USWA's annual budget, and were willing to invest some of their assets to keep their favorite wrasslin' promotion alive and hungry. Jokingly, Piper's contract is frequently referred to as "the oil contract", in reference to the multiple oil-family millionaires which fund the contract. Piper won the title in his debut against the champion, Jerry Lawler. The Dallas, Texas crowd was ecstatic to get the built off of Lawler, who had nearly held the built for an entire year. Piper became the hottest face in the South, with much of his reign climaxing in what would become known as "The Christmas of 1993". Heading into the Holiday season, the USWA usually slowed down on shows, waiting until after New Year's to kick things back up again, and to give their roster and staff a multiple week-long holiday break. But 1993 was noticeably different as the company planned on holding shows in Memphis, Tennessee, all the way up to Christmas Eve. Any wrestling fan in Memphis can tell you about "The Christmas of 1993", and everyone seems to say that "they were there" when Lawler won back the belt, or "when YOKOZUNA made his debut." The holiday would go down in Memphis legend, but would really begin in Little Rock, Arkansas, where Lawler was finally able to take the belt back from Roddy Piper. Heading into December, Lawler graced the live crowds and television program with his usual cocky attitude, this time with a bit of a Christmas theme with how it would be the best Christmas in Memphis history with Lawler the new USWA Unified World Heavyweight champion. But December 20th of that Winter saw the first night in four of the craziest days in Memphis wrestling history. December 20th saw the surprise debut of Yokozuna, who had also left from the WWF, and was looking for an easier schedule to travel (turning down a modest offer from the NWA). Crushing Lawler in the surprise main event, Yokozuna would win the title sending Memphis into quite a wrestling buzz. That buzz continued to grow as two nights later, Yokozuna dropped the title to Jake Roberts, as he won the unified championship for the fifth time in short career in the USWA! But the fifth time would be the shortest of them all, as the very next night, Roberts dropped the belt back to Yokozuna! The fans were absolutely electric once again, but the biggest night of them all came on the fourth, where Santa delivered a second-title victory for Roddy Piper, who left that Christmas Eve as the USWA Unified World Heavyweight champion, and the real winner of the wild "Christmas of 1993". As 1994 came around, and even more impactful debut took place in February, as SID VICIOUS officially left the National Wrestling Alliance, having essentially been black-balled from the promotion he joined a year prior to Vince McMahon's conviction. As a face of the steroid scandal, the NWA was adamant about getting Vicious out of their territory and off their television programs. When his contract expired, Vicious only found a home in the USWA, where he accepted a written contract, and a title run on his debut. Much of the year revolved around Vicious, who feuded with Kerry Von Erich, Roddy Piper and Jerry Lawler. JEFF JARRETT was also able to sneak in his first title run, defeating Roddy Piper in January of 1995 to only hold the title for a short-month. 1995 itself featured a wide-array of title changes, beginning with Jarrett's victory in January. The next month, Piper won the title back, but that very next month, lost to Sid Vicious, the man he had won it from just a few months back in December 1994. Vicious held the title for all of March and most of April, but Lawler was able to take the title in El Paso, Texas. Lawler's victory led to a short but hot program featuring he and Jeff Jarrett, from which resulted in Jarrett's second title-reign, but this one, only lasting a week. It was Jake "The Snake" Roberts who would cut Jarrett's title run short once again, before losing the belt to Lawler in September at the USWA Big Night in Little Rock. But, in the final title change of the year, "The King" was only able to hold on until the next big event, dropping the unified title back to Roberts in October at the USWA Big Night in Amarillo. Roberts' luck quickly ran out just a few months later, when he came head-to-head with Roddy Piper. The two had run a program before early in Piper's tenure, but their potential rivarly never really fleshed out and now the USWA is looking to bank on perhaps their most popular babyface and heel finally meeting for the Unified World title.

 15. Who Screwed Who? “Who’s calling!?” the man screamed over the line. I pulled the phone back a bit from my ear for a second, surprised by the hostility in the response. “Tommy John, sir. I’d like to talk to you about a job.” “A job? Yeah? You think that’s funny? Having Billy have ‘ya call me to tell me if I’m lookin’ for a job. You know what you no good, rotten, piece-of-!” I didn’t get to the rest before cutting him off. “Woah, woah, sir, sir, no. I’m not calling for any Billy. Sir I’m calling about a job in Detroit!” “A job in Detroit? Ha! Trying to say I’m going to the grave? Well let me tell you somethin’ if you wanna talk about ridding me off here! You think you can kick me outta Indy, well boy I got-” He was fuming over the line. Like a mad man on a rampage, he was ready to verbally assault anyone who put an ear to listen. “Sir, sir, sir, please, no! I’m not talking about Billy or Indy, I don’t know anything about what you’re mentioning. Now if you would please hear me out, I’d like to offer you a job with the NWA in Detroit. My name is Tommy John and I’m opening business back up for the NWA up here in Michigan. I’ve already got quite the roster assembled and I need some help backstage. I need someone who can manage these guys, someone with the experience like you sir. Now from what I understand, I know you’re down there in Indy with the WWA, but-” “No I’m not! Ha! Not any longer! That rotten sumabitch Billy sure lived up to his name! Dick! Ha! He ran me out of town! Stole my business right out from under my nose! Dick the Bruiser? You ever heard of ‘em? Of course you haven’t! Because all he’s ever done is bruise his damn reputation in my town! I bought Indy! It’s my town! He doesn’t own it! My lawyer is all-” at this point I was worried if I didn’t cut him off he’d be out of breath permanently. “Woah, woah, ran you out of town? What do you mean? Like he screwed you?” A bit of heavy breathing trickled in. “Boy, you think I got screwed?” “Uh…” maybe that wasn’t the right thing to ask. “You think Dick the Bruiser screwed me? Wilbur Snyder? Do you know who I am boy? I’d stretch Dick from Indy to Japan and back! That bastard wouldn’t last one minute in the ring with me! Ha! He told me once he’d hook me so hard I’d be crying for my mama! Next thing you know I’ve got him on the ground with what I’d call an Alaskan fishhook, it was like milking tears from his eyes! He knows who he’s messing with, but that’s not why he got rid of me! No, he’s just a greedy bastard, just like the lot of ‘ya! All you promoters! Thieves I say! Just out here lookin’ for a-” “Can- can I cut you off there Wilb-” “No you can’t cut me off! I ain’t done speakin’ to you yet!” He voiced angrily. “Sir, I’m not trying to-” “Trying to what? Screw me?” “Not at all.” “Well I know you ain’t kid, your name ain’t Dick!” … After an awkward silence, we both laughed. I got him to calm down and I seemed to take on a liking with him. Wilbur was supposedly one of the best technicians in the ring during his heyday, inventor of the abdominal stretch, so I wasn’t rolling my eyes when he said he could hook Dick to next Tuesday. I was informed he was co-running the office in WWA, and was taking a serious shot in the dark considering I didn’t know the guy and that the WWA was working with the AWA and not the NWA after a falling out. I warmed him up and bit and was soon back to my pitch. Suddenly looking for work, I expected him to charge an exorbitant fee. I guess he forgot to mention the large sum of money he was bought out for by Dick the Bruiser until the end! Either way, he agreed to work dates for me up in Detroit for a very modest fee. I appreciated him greatly by the end of the call, and said I’d give him a ring soon to see how he was doing before the weekend of the first show. Next on my list… Tommy D’Amore? A regular referee of the NWA circuit, I got his phone number from Wilbur just by chance. “Hi, is this Tommy? Tommy D’Amore?” I asked. “Yes.” “Hi Tommy, I’d like to see if you’d be interested in running some dates up in Detroit?” “Sure, bud. Be happy to." Well, that was easy...
 16. Newt I waited a day to call the card. I couldn’t bring myself to it at first, wondering what was waiting on the other side. Sleepless all night, worried I just got scammed. I don’t even think I took the guy’s number down before he left, how would I ever get back in contact again if I needed? What if this was all a joke? The next morning, I would find out. I picked up the card and rolled the numbers on my telephone. A couple rings later, it picked up on the other line… “Hello?” I said nervously. A robotic voice answered on the other side. I was taken aback. “Hello- and- welcome...to, National Wrestling Alliance Tele-Station. Your number one source for all NWA business matters. You can call me Newt, for short. To what do I owe this pleasure?” “Um, Newt? Hi, my name is Tommy. I just purchased the-” I was cut off. “Hello! I am Newt! To what do I owe this pleasure?” it repeated. “Newt?” “Hello, I am Newt! To what do I-” “Newt! Hello? Are you a real person!?” Was my temper boiling again? “Calculating… Hello, unfortunately I am unable to determine if I am a real person or not. I do not believe it is a part of my programming. Would you like additional information?” “Additional informa- Yes! Additional information!” I piped up. “Calculating… Hello, additional information proceeding… I am the National Wrestling Alliance Tele-Station, your number one source for all NWA business matters. You can call me Newt, for short. My purpose is to provide all NWA offices with resources and assistance in all of their business matters. This includes but is not limited to: booking talent, booking shows, rolodex information, financial assistance, news from around the Alliance, and more. Please listen to the following prompts for which area you would like assistance with. Dial 1, for booking shows. Dial 2, for booking talent. Dial 3, for-” the message stopped as soon as I let the phone roll back from having dialed 1. The system took a couple seconds before picking back up. “You have selected- option 1. Booking shows. It is your responsibility as owner of an NWA office to book shows for your territory. To book a show, you will need to locate a venue to propose hosting your live event in. You will need to provide payment for using the venue. You will need to determine a date and time the show will proceed, as well as how long it is expected to last. You will need to determine ticket price. You will need to-” I was furiously writing down these notes. Much of this I already had in mind since day one, obviously, but I didn’t want to miss a step. I still couldn’t believe this system even existed. I had heard of automatic answering machines, but this was something more... By the end of the messages, I had run through all of the options. Newt, as I began to call it, was covering nearly everything I needed. Unfortunately, I had come to the serious realization that this thing was not going to get the jumpstart I was hoping for. With my $15,000 budget in mind, it was clear I was not going to be able to bring in the sort of talent I had envisioned in my dreams. I knew the likes of Ric Flair was far out of reach, but others I had marked high on my list, they were clearly too expensive at this point. I needed to be a smart financially as possible, everything was riding on this being a success. After jotting down a list of at least twenty-five workers, I waited until the afternoon to begin making cold calls. “Detroit?” the voice over the other end laughed back. “Detroit is back? And you’re running it? Oh geez, oh wow… I mean, wow, that’s great, great to hear!” The forced answer was obvious, clearly not looking to offend me. “I want to bring you in as my top draw. From what I’ve seen, you’re everything I need to kick this thing off right.” Nearly gritting my teeth. I could tell he was lying about his belief in my abilities to make something last in Detroit. I was hoping he could tell I wasn’t lying about my genuine interest in booking him. “Hmm… yeah, give me a date and time and I can probably be there.” I wasn’t surprised. “Great, talk to you soon, Bobo.” I hung up the phone and circled his name in the middle of my list. Next to it, I placed a star. “Bobo Brazil, Junior. Bobo. Brazil. Junior. Bobo…” I kept repeating it. Like I couldn’t believe it. Based on what Newt was telling me, Bobo was the biggest, cheapest draw I could find in the Great Lakes area. Son of the legendary Bobo Brazil, he was a few years into his professional wrestling career, and worked over in the Indianapolis-area with World Wrestling Association, an AWA-affiliated territory. “Calypso Jim!” I suddenly remembered what he said he went by. He didn’t want to use the Bobo Brazil name to make his way through the business and had come up with his own moniker he had been using since his debut in the sport. But I couldn’t be concerned with what I wanted to book, who I wanted to work with, what my vision was from the very start. Things were different and my wallet was much tighter than I had planned for. So if Calypso Jim wanted a few bucks to main event my show and didn’t even need me to cover travel, then I was okay with that. In fact, this was my approach with the entire roster. It took me a couple days to play phone tag, get in contact with the right people, and work my way down my list of interests (only to end up with a list of disinterests). My main concerns were signing the most popular workers available to me at the lowest budget, with at least some decent skill set, and all based in the Great Lakes region so I could avoid paying anyone’s travel. By the end of the weekend, I had my roster laid out. I categorized them by “perception” of where I thought they likely stood. Major Stars Calypso Jim - Face - Old School Face - The secret son of Bobo Brazil Stormy Granzig - Heel - Old School Heel - Former bodybuilder, mainly works in the South The Great Wojo - Heel - Wrestling Machine - Fantastic former amateur wrestler Sam DeCero - Heel - Apocalyptic Soldier - Mad Max wannabe Moose Cholak - Face - Moose Man - Literally wears real moose antlers in the ring Stars Buzz Tyler - Face - Lumberjack - Big, burly guy from British Columbia Rick Steiner - Face - Athlete - Local former amateur wrestler Mike Jackson - Face - Old School Face - Competent babyface enhancement talent Jason Knight - Heel - Cocky - Good looking young kid with charisma Al Burke - Heel - Obnoxious - Has one of the those super-punchable faces Baby Bull - Face - Bad Ass - Super heavy guy, but apparently moves good for a guy his size And that was that. Major stars and stars... that should be good, right? My first roster. And boy did I hate it. Nonetheless, I felt I had no option but to proceed with this group of misfits. Some are newer to the business, others only expanding their reach to the Great Lakes area. All at the cheapest possible price for the most bang-for-my-buck in terms of drawing power. I knew that was my number one objective at this point. Bring in the highest drawing power I could, at the cheapest price, so I could put my new promotion on the map as soon as possible. Once I could draw a consistent crowd and start breaking even, then I could start reaching out to better talent and build from there. I wasn’t worried about presenting a commendable card, having the hottest talent, or bringing in big names from other territories. I knew tag teams and other multi-man matches were out of the question. I had to pull off a simple card with minimal talent.
 17. This diary will serve as a local-to-global journey of “the newest NWA territory” starting in January 1985 using the Risky Business mod (thank you Matt Shannon and Jaysin.) The company I will be running will be a cheeky roleplaying account of the resurrection of the Detroit-territory within the NWA. Historically, the Detroit office stopped promoting shows around 1980 and the territory was essentially stagnant ever since. I will attempt to revive the Detroit-territory (to what it never was, lol) and book it as my own NWA territory. High-Level Goals: Attempt to survive financially on a very limited budget. If money is lost, that’s game over! Naturally grow a company in the 1980’s territory days from nothing. Play realistically in a roleplaying aspect. What I am starting with: $15,000 in the Great Lakes region. Zero popularity, zero prestige, zero roster, zero titles. Membership in the NWA. Paying Up “$10,000!?” I yelled, clenching my fist. “You’re telling me membership is $10,000?” “That’s not including yearly dues, kid.” The smoke billowed from his mouth. I watched as the cigar smoke whimsically trailed its way from his abhorrent gob, undercutting my nose. The cigar was rich, scented with zero remorse. “You’ve got to be kidding me! I’ve barely got enough to get this thing off the ground and you want me to drop $10,000 just like that as ‘initiation’ into the alliance? I told you I wanted to get in the business to make money, not throw it away!” Turning bright-red, I realized I was about to lose my cool and resorted to an old technique my grandfather had taught me… Five deep breaths… “Listen, I don’t make the rules, I just enforce them. And that’s a discount kid, trust me. Nobody wants to book Detroit now, nobody’s booked Detroit in five years, and nobody really booked it well in the past 40… I’m not sure why you’re so interested in it, but the Board thinks it’s worth a shot in the dark. Now, like I said, your initiation fee is $10,000. Write the check to me and I will handle the rest. Then, you can slap those three letters at the top of that sheet on whatever you want. Your posters, your tee-shirts... hell, you can tattoo that puppy on your ass for all I give a damn, but you ain’t doin’ anything with that N-Dubya-Eh until you cough up the dough. So what’s it gonna be? You gonna run this thing with no experience, no contacts, no network, and think you’re gonna last three days out here? Or are you gonna make the right choice and leverage everything we can bring?” He said firmly. I could tell he had been through this before. “I give you $10,000, you know what that leaves me with!?” I exclaimed. “No, and I don’t really care. You fail, you’re dust in the wind, daddy. Nobody will even blink an eye.”, followed by a cough from the cigar. “You don’t understand, this throws off all my planning! I calculated twenty-five thousand is what I could come in with and have a go at it, you want me to kick this thing off now with only fifteen-thousand? Are you out of your mind?” I yelled, he was making me hot. He took another puff before remarking, “sign the damn check and quit wasting my time.” I opened my checkbook slowly, thinking of all the hard-earned sweat and tears I had put myself through just to get to this moment. Countless hours worked, saved, treasured… one signature away from jumping into the deep-end of an experiment that’s going to land me in deep-shit if it’s not a success. “Forget a pen?” He laughed. I must not have realized just how long I was staring at the blank check, but I blinked twice and came back to reality just before reaching into my pocket and pulling out the pen. I stalled again once it hit the paper, but a sense of carpe diem overcame my hand and proceeded to cut the check. Ripping it out of the booklet, I placed it in his hand. He looked it over, grunted, and put his cigar out on my kitchen table. “Nice doin’ business with you, kid.” He fooled around with his worn and faded brown suit jacket, classic touch on top of his shanty black pants. Coming to his front breast pocket, a business card slithered out towards my way. “This number’s all you need now. Don't call too late, or things might get a little freaky, catch my drift? This check bounces, I’m coming back and bouncing your ass on the curb, got it?” He smirked, proud of his boast, buttoning up his jacket and heading out the door. As it shut, the house stood silent. “What the hell did I just get myself into?”
 18. There is probably no significant reason. Feel free to add of course.
 19. It first started as an EWR database with supporting documents, then tried converting to 2016 but didn't really finish the job. Then this conversion from the 2016 database to 2020 took a couple of months, less than I expected. I'd like to keep working on it for awhile, just something to dump some hours into here and there because I enjoy working on it. Slowly realizing perhaps I enjoy creating the database more than playing in it... Potential I am get sucked into a different project as well. I've been considering a few ideas...
 20. Haha thanks for the feedback, hope you can get a good save going! Let me know how it goes would love to hear. Hey thank you very much I hope I can polish off some of the rough edges and leave an excellent mod playable for the next few years! One thing I am noticing is the gimmicks really need re-done, add it to the list!

The world of wrestling is very different from what it became. Hulk Hogan remained with the AWA through its formation of World Star Wrestling. Instead of “Hulkamania”, this world experienced “Macho Madness” that swept the nation. Vince McMahon built the WWF on the shoulders of his superstar, Randy Savage, while Jim Crockett and the rest of the southern NWA stronghold responded by centralizing earlier on in the 1980’s.To the north, Verne Gagne’s AWA and Stu Hart’s Calgary territory joined forces to plant their stamp in Chicago, IL and the surrounding Great Lakes region as the predominant wrestling promotion known as World Star Wrestling. And the remaining combatants of the old Memphis and Mid-South found refuge, and potential coup, with the United States Wrestling Association. The industry changed forever in 1993, when Vince McMahon was convicted in his steroid trail of 1993, and would face an objectively horrible sentence. To serve time for the next seven-years, the WWF would crumble in the wake of fallout. Not only that, but 23-year old Shane McMahon was now in charge, and soon found controversy when he screwed frontman Shawn Michaels out of the WWF Championship while Michaels was on his way out from the WWF to join the upstart HCW in what has become known as “The Baltimore Screwjob”. In 1994, Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Sean Waltman formed the foundation of Hollywood Championship Wrestling, the new primetime promotion owned by FOX, live on FOX, every Monday Night. McMahon and the WWF have found shelter with MTV, and have perhaps found a savior in a man named Paul Heyman and his new “attitude era”. Wrestling At War, Version 1.1 Data Download Picture Pack Download Special thanks to nGo and associated individuals for work on the nGo picture pack, used as base for all worker pictures. Very special thanks to Mammoth for his custom belts for majority of promotions in the game. His incredible work has added another layer of depth I couldn’t have imagined. Thanks to iDOL for his stable logos, I was glad to incorporate a bunch of stable logos into this alternate wrestling world.

 23. Fypo, thanks for the super kind words! This kind of feedback means the world for something like this. I actually also have PDF version of company histories I thought you were going to link to but a lot of that canon I have changed because as I put pieces together in other ares, new holes appear where I need to fill them! Oh boy, what's all holding you off on a save!? Want to make sure I have what I can for you!
 24. Still working on title histories, should have them finished soon. Will release an update once that is complete. In the meantime, some highlights for Hollywood Championship Wrestling.
