  1. Dante Martin getting injured doing that spot on Supercard of Honor is everything that is wrong in modern day wrestling. Wrestlers these days no longer keep up the pretence that wrestling is fake but is supposed to look real. They're either pissing all over wrestling with stupidly contrived and overly cheorographed spots or they're taking dumbass stunts to nearly kill themselves. I've never seen a company full of injured guys as regularly as AEW, it's crazy, these guys be killing themselves for 800,000 viewers whilst fans be talking about CM Punk's lastest Instagram story. 😭

It was a ridiculous bump and I hate to kick a guy when he's down but if he's out for a year, it's his own fault for agreeing to take something so goddamn stupid in the first place. A Canadian Destroyer off a ladder through tables, on an ROH show that about 15,000 people will have been watching... what an absolute idiot.

I'm not sold on the Gunns as tag champs yet. However I'm not surprised they won, just the way that it happened. I totally thought it was being set up for a Billy Gunn turn, where he would turn on the Acclaimed and cost them the belts.

Scissor Me Daddy Ass surely makes them far too much money to go down that road, right?

  3. I think WWE leaked the sale to Saudi Arabia rumour just to see what the reaction was and I don't think any of the furore will put them off that sale. I think that's where the sale is headed for a multitude of reasons. The Saudi's need to diversify their economy, NBC/Universal and Fox are in sales conflict because WWE has media rights with both but the SIF buyout is bound to be more than anybody else offers. I have no faith that broadcasters will baulk either. Money talks and WWE makes them money, they're all capitalists, it's all they truly care about. People will be big mad for two weeks but they'll stick Vince in charge, they'll promote a woman, they'll start a pro-LGBTQ+ rights nonprofit to appear progressive because that's how sportswashing works but then it will be business as usual. That is what happened with Newcastle FC and I do not see it being any different with WWE in the States.

Then why on earth would Britt add fuel to those rumors with her wink wink nudge nudge bit on Wednesday?

Because wrestlers are always working. Remember when rumours suggested Matt Hardy was going to be the exalted one so he tweeted some wink wink nudge nudge stuff. And then it was revealed to be Brodie Lee. You just know they all had a laugh at the number of "insiders" who had reported it was going to be Matt Hardy. They get off on this stuff, they love doing it. Matt said that Brodie Lee messaged him personally to thank him for promoting the angle and doing the misdirect. "Oh fans think Mercedes is going to show up, I'm going to call myself The Boss and see how many marks I've worked on Twitter hehe" they love it.

But I'm reasonably confident that Mercedes isn't showing up on January 11th because, if she does, they have promoted her debut appearance in the stupidest, most ass backwards way imaginable.

But if Thunder Rosa is still an option (meaning Toni gets replaced), how does that stop fans from thinking Sasha will still show up? And if it doesn't, why not just go with the actual plan to begin with?

If you do a mystery partner and it isn't Mercedes, that's a let down.

But if you announce somebody and it still isn't Mercedes, that's okay. You didn't announce her, you announced Toni, you're just presenting what you have promoted.

Imagine if instead of a "HALL OF FAME LEVEL TALENT", AEW maybe should have announced that Christian was going to be at Revolution 2021. It doesn't quite have the same effect but considering fans expected Brock Lesnar and got Christian, it was a disappointment purely by association.

Who even knows what the actual plan was with this whole mystery partner deal? If I'm lead to believe that Mercedes was in but kiboshed the deal after the recent Vince news, I wouldn't be surprised. Now might not be the best time to commit yourself to a long-term deal outside of WWE if you genuinely earnestly want to still work there. Maybe Mercedes will do this NJPW stuff, scratch that whole Joshi itch she has and then go back to the Fed? Doubly, I wouldn't be surprised if NJPW have told AEW that Mercedes Moné's first post-WWE match is their show in February and AEW are not allowed to have her wrestle until after Battle at the Valley. In which case, they needed to announce a wrestler to wrestle the match because Mercedes is off the table in that respect.

Maybe the original plan was Thunder Rosa's return but they saw all the fans getting worked up about it being Mercedes and decided they needed to quieten that baseless speculation to avoid a disappointing return for their former World Champion? Who knows? But we're all talking about it so, clearly, the mystery has been a relatively effective promotional vehicle.

I hope Toni being Saraya's partner is a swerve or something. Seemed weird to hold out naming her partner and then it's just someone already on the roster.

I wonder if the plan is Thunder Rosa and always was but they felt like they needed to announce somebody just to stop the Mercedes Moné rumours.

  6. It feels like a waste that Swerve is going to head up a stable with two lumps of meat not worth a damn instead of getting a singles push. I really think he would have thrived on his own as a vicious baddie with trust issues stemming from his failure to form a tour de force with his absolute beast of a mate.

It feels as though they just want to do something easy because doing anything else would be a challenge and would require effort and creativity. There's nothing particularly sinister or novel about a heel who recruits some other dudes to do the dirty work for them, they are telling that story all over the show every single week.

You mean like when Jinder Mahal became WWE Champion?

AEW chose to market itself as having a sports-style wrestling product. They said wins and losses would matter. They had a ranking system that was supposed to be taken seriously. They put up their wrestler's win and loss records during their entrances. I'm simply treating their wrestlers as I'm supposed to. When a dude's last match on the show was in June and he lost to Orange Cassidy from a body slam, why am I supposed to believe he can lay out the World Champion with a single boot to the chops? 😂

  8. If I get started, I'll wind up writing a short book about how trash I am finding AEW at the moment. Creatively bankrupt, they just keep running the same deals over and over again. GDS diaries have more creativity than this and that's not a backhanded compliment, nobody writes a dynasty as a full-time job but people are actually paid to come up with these storylines you see on the telly. Zero credibility to half the wrestlers having 10 minute back and forth matches with the "stars". Randomly pushing wrestlers like Ethan Page that were jobbers just months ago. Useless matches that achieve nothing. Bad or shoot boring wrestlers being given TV time.

I did think the All-Atlantic title three-way was good when Luchasaurus was out the way. Rick Ross was cool. I liked the TV package for Toni Storm vs. Jamie Hayter. I'm clutching at straws aren't I? At the moment, I watch it because my fam watches it but I'm starting to think it's peaked commercially, it's peaked critically and now we're witnessing the long drawn out malaise and gradual decline.

  9. Sammy Guevara did a backflip and landed on his feet out of a Super Back Suplex and got zero reaction. 😅

"It's not every week you get a World Championship match on Dynamite" said one of the commentators. Uhh, at the moment, you do get one pretty much every week lol.

  10. On Chris Jericho, Orange Cassidy beat him twice and within the proceeding three months he had lost to Brodie Lee, drawn with Cody, lost to Cody, and lost to MJF. Any benefit he may have gotten from the Jericho rub was immediately squandered.

Kingston beat Jericho and rather than being given a World title shot, he earned the dubious honour of continuing to feud with Jericho. When it finally ended, the follow up was Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti.

Ortiz worked a sublime Hair match with Chris and was then told to just run down the ramp for a good month before he was drafted in to a pre-show storyline. Isiah Kassidy had a very fine outing versus Jericho and was sent straight back to Dark. If I talk about the American Top Team storyline I may have to start using all caps. The booking lacks foresight and they don't capitalise on many of the gains their talents could potentially be making by working with one of their top stars.

I get that Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson don't have boobs. Yes.

So, based on this logic, it surely follows that all of AEW's women have brilliant and comparable social media followings to Saraya? Let's crunch the numbers...

    • Saraya (6.1m on IG, 2.7m on Twitter, 8.8m overall)
    • Jade Cargill (811k on IG, 169k on Twitter, 980k overall)
    • Britt Baker (445k on IG, 345k on Twitter, 790k overall)
    • Toni Storm (725k on IG)
    • Thunder Rosa (317k on IG, 205k on Twitter, 522k overall)
    • Jamie Hayter (155k on IG, 118k on Twitter, 273k overall)
    • Kris Statlander (184k on IG, 140k on Twitter, 324k overall)
    • Penelope Ford (175k on IG, 90k on Twitter, 265k overall)

It is, very literally, night and day.

For what goal? What does having her involved do exactly? Did you see what happened to Tua Tagovailoa on TNF? Right now the team is actively covering up that to avoid a huge lawsuit from the NFLPA, BTW. And all so he could play in a week 4 game. People have gone insane.

What does anyone get for doing this? Is she going to make people care about women's wrestling? No. Is she going to have a classic moment that will live beyond her? No. Is she going to get anybody else over? No.

What's the endgame? A vanity project for someone who worked for the other guys? I just don't get it.

AEW stars with the most follows on social media between Twitter and Instagram:

    1. Saraya (6.1m on IG, 2.7m on Twitter, 8.8m overall)
    2. Chris Jericho (4.2m on IG, 3.6m on Twitter, 7.8m overall)
    3. Bryan Danielson (3.3m on IG, 4.5m on Twitter, 7.8m overall)

    Do you get it now?
