    TNA iMPACT! #28 Preview

    CARD SUBJECT TO CHANGE

    Wednesday, Week 4, August 2004

With just days to go until TNA Lockdown, the go home edition of TNA iMPACT features several warm up matches for competitors due to do battle live at the Honda Center. For Kid Kash, he faces the formidable Jerrelle Clark. Though the #1 Contender for the TNA X-Division Championship, Kash is sure to have his hands full with ‘Mr. 630’ as he looks for a vital win to propel himself further up the pecking order.

For Rock N Roll Express, they face off with the team of Adam Jacobs and Shawn Spears. They’ve become a strong team in TNA’s developmental brand but how will they fare against the legendary Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson? Meiko Satomura and Ultimo Dragon will both take on debutants in Mercedes Martinez and Slim J respectively but with opportunities on the line, could somebody pick up an upset victory and make a statement just days before the PPV spectacular?

We cold open with Kanyon already in the ring and Jeff Hardy making his way through a backstage corridor towards the ring. With a determination visibly etched across his face, he loosens up his wrists with bent elbows as he continues his stride towards the go position.

But from behind, he’s jumped by Big League!

Jeff Jarrett and Mike Awesome knock the ‘Enigma’ to the floor, stomping away at him as Hardy cocoons and tries best to avoid punishment. But Scott Steiner gets a handful of Hardy’s waist belt, pulling him back up to his feet just to deposit him into the side of a nearby production cart. As the three of them continue pressing their assault…

P.R.P. charge down the corridor to intervene!

But before this fracas can get any further out of hand, Jarrett, Steiner and Awesome hit the bricks and hightail it out of there. Together, Savio and Apolo help Jeff Hardy back to his feet as Gonzalez and Banderas keep watch but it appears the damage has been done. Hardy wearily stands and continues what is now a laboured stride towards the ring for his match.

    Standard Singles Match

Jeff Hardy vs. Kanyon (w/Don Callis)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

With a shrug of his shoulders, Kanyon feigns ignorance of the attack but he has the clear advantage and targets his assault on Hardy’s ribs and left shoulder. Those areas of his body bore the brunt of the impact with the cart and with the outside-in-Suplex, Kanyon picks up a very close near fall.

    jDWA57W.jpg

”I don’t know if Jeff can even carry on here Mike!”

Hardy’s injuries might be big but so is his heart and he fights back with the Whisper in the Wind after ducking a Clothesline. Kanyon tries to stop his gathering momentum dead with the Kanyon Cutter but Hardy twists around, countering with a Neckbreaker. Unfortunately, he lands on his hurt left shoulder and the delayed cover is lackadaisical at best. Hardy tries to finish this one off with the Twist of Fate but it’s Kanyon’s time to find an inventive counter, swivelling all the way around to elude Jeff’s attempted grip before connecting this time with the Kanyon Cutter! Remarkably, Hardy is able to kick out but like a man possessed, Kanyon pulls him back to a vertical base and finishes his opponent off with the Flatliner.

    be9VPZ7.jpg1krnXN5.jpg

As Kanyon of the Big League has his hand raised by our referee, the Commissioner Roddy Piper makes his way down to ringside. His signature cheeky grin etched across his face, Piper asks if Hardy is in pain. If so, good! Not only will he never compete for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship now he’s lost two matches in a row but at Lockdown, he’s going to be destroyed by the undefeated Samoan Submission Machine, Samoa Joe!

Piper tells New Jersey to say their goodbyes because after Lockdown, they’ll never see Jeff Hardy in a TNA ring ever again.

    Standard Tag Team Match

The Harris Twins vs. Bobby Roode & Eric Young (w/Legend)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Their focus renewed by Steve Corino, Roode & E-Y need to start cutting the mustard if they’re going to remain in Team Canada. The fans are still reeling from the opening match and despite Ron & Don having the better of this one, the Rothman Center is not interested in what they are being served. When Roode makes the pin after a Vertical Suplex & Diving Elbow Drop combination, Legend holds down Don’s legs behind the referee’s back and Andrew Thomas counts the merciful three to end a below average contest.

In the locker room, Sonny Siaki is doing push ups and Ekmo is seated on a wooden bench curling a heavy dumbbell. They are warming up ahead of their match against Bloodweiser later tonight but Siaki is in a rather cantankerous mood. He’s frustrated with his tag team partner’s recent tours of Japan, believing that it impedes his momentum and has stopped the two of them from being a force in the tag team division. Ekmo doesn’t respond, preferring instead to stare intently as Siaki continues, chastising him for the miscommunication that cost them victory against the Rock N Roll Express at Inmates Rule.

The tension in the room rises with a camera zoom as Ekmo steps towards his partner and exhales in temper but the situation cools down when Sonny Siaki looks forward to tonight’s match. He calls it a fresh start, an opportunity to start over. Ekmo agrees, albeit through gritted teeth and promises he’ll whoop somebody’s ass tonight. As the big Samoan trudges off, Siaki takes a seat and begins lacing up his boots as we return to ringside…

    Non-Title Match

Emi Sakura vs. Daffney (w/Cheerleader Melissa)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Our lovely TNA Knockouts Champion thought this would be little more than a warm up but Emi Sakura has other ideas. She wants to prove she belongs in this division and after a Double Underhook Backbreaker, perhaps she’s getting her point across. After the Crucifix Driver, Melissa has her heart in her throat as Daff’s shoulders are pinned to the canvas but the Champion finds the wherewithal to kick out. She even rallies back with the Frankenscreamer when she catches her opponent dilly-dallying on the top turnbuckle. Melissa applauds and after the Daff Knees, the Lobotomy takes the ‘Scream Queen’ to the pay window.

Down the ramp, unannounced, come P.R.P.!

With no music to play them in, Mike Tenay says they weren’t originally scheduled to appear here tonight but Savio Vega wants to address tonight’s earlier injustice. Big League ambushed Jeff Hardy before his match and they don’t think these injustices should be accepted in TNA Wrestling. They don’t understand why they are the only ones willing to fight what’s truly right around here and they want to settle it tonight. There’s no point waiting until Lethal Lockdown, they want Big League right here right now!

Answering the challenge, Big League arrive out of the entrance tunnel and Don Callis agrees. There’s no reason to wait! How about we have the Battle of New Jersey and tear the house down right now? Mike Awesome cracks his knuckles, Scott Steiner pumps up and Kanyon pulls up his knee pads…

But instead of Big League hitting the ring, they move aside and the real opponents emerge from the entrance tunnel.

    The Battle of New Jersey?

P.R.P. (Ray Gonzalez, Ricky Banderas & Savio Vega) (w/Apolo) vs. Johnny Swinger, Glenn Gilbertti & Romeo

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Like lambs to the slaughter, the Minor League are immediately taken to task and knocked down to the canvas. This one would be short but Swinger and Romeo work well together, pulling Gonzalez into their corner to work him over. After a Missile Dropkick, Romeo flexes, what a gym lad he is with those impressive abdominals! Swinger is equally superficial, the Swinger Stinger connects and he pumps his powerful right arm. But the tag to Savio Vega turns the tide, a Savate Kick dropping Gilbertti. Savio tags out, allowing ‘El Mesias’ to do the honours with the Dagger Through The Heart.

With interview footage spliced between action shots of these two Knockouts, we hear Nattie Neidhart and Veronica’s thoughts ahead of their match next week. Veronica tells her opponent that if she wants to be bitten by this Spider then so be it, she hopes Daffney is watching so she can see how venomous her bite is. Nattie says she has family legacy and the blood of successful previous generations flows through her veins. As far as she’s concerned, Veronica’s entitlement is going to crumble when she shows the whole world how the Harts do it.

    Standard Tag Team Match

Bloodweiser (The Sandman & Shark Boy) vs. Ekmo & Sonny Siaki

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Fair play to both The Sandman and Shark Boy for stepping up to this challenge but an Ekmo rising on the wrong side of his bed is better avoided. They are grateful for Siaki starting the match and Sandman gets a near fall with a Russian Leg Sweep - Stunner combination. But when Ekmo enters, he absolutely tears both of his opponents apart here, hitting a Samoan Drop to put The Sandman to one side. Shark Boy does his best, shell yeah he does! But he’s taken down with a big Body Splash in the corner and finished off with aplomb after a Wild Monkey Splash.

    u9hiQuf.jpgEoY7r3A.jpg

Siaki is delighted to have lit a fire under his opponent and flashes a grin as they have their hands raised by referee Slick Johnson. But Ekmo is in no mood for celebrating, shoving his partner to one side before exiting through the ropes and trudging back up the entrance ramp. He leaves Sonny Siaki at the altar and we catch the Gold Rush Ring winner standing alone, his hands on his hips, watching his partner stomp away.

    Non-Title Match

    Amazing Red vs. Naomichi Marufuji

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Courtesy of TNA Wrestling’s working relationship with Pro Wrestling NOAH, Naomichi Marufuji is here to win bragging rights for his home promotion. A slick competitor despite his relative inexperience, Marufuji shapes to be the aggressor and naturally, Red becomes something of an underdog against his adversary’s superior physicality. Both men have educated feet but Marufuji is happy to trade, ducking an Enzuigiri before catching Red with a Side Kick and then a Dropkick to the head for a near fall. Big Frog Splash from the NOAH wrestler gets another near fall but the X-Division Champion rallies back with a Leg Sweep into a Standing Shooting Star Press. Code Red gets a close 2 before Marufuji goes for another Side Kick, missing his opponent who ducked and rolled him up. Red holds Marufuji down with the School Boy and catches the three for a sudden victory.

Mutual respect in the ring as Amazing Red and Naomichi Marufuji shake hands. The Japanese competitor had a solid outing but was caught off balance and although disappointed, he acknowledges it was an even match. Mike Tenay is positive that Marufuji will be back but as they leave the ringside area, the sound of a guitar solo can mean only one thing…

    It’s Sting!

The TNA World Heavyweight Champion cuts right to chase, calling out James Mitchell for a face to face. When Mitchell isn’t forthcoming, Sting makes a song and dance of putting his bat down in the corner of the ring. With there being no illusions about the Stinger’s intentions, he gets his man.

    TxLgoZN.jpg

And James Mitchell comes down the entrance ramp.

Inside the ring, Sting admits that the target on his back keeps on getting bigger and sometimes he doesn’t help himself. He was put in The Gathering’s crosshairs first by CM Punk and then at No Surrender when they attacked both him and their former member. That’s something that the Stinger cannot let slide. He knows that this match is more personal than just the title but maybe that was Mitchell’s plan all along… raise the ire of ‘The Icon’, earn a shot for one of his children and bring the title back to The Gathering. Sting sees that and he’s too smart to fall for it, he already has a Plan B, a Plan C and a Plan D for Lockdown!

James Mitchell cackles. Does Sting seriously think he can see inside the mind of The Father that stands before him? All the pieces are in place for the timely demise of the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. It’s never been about titles and accolades, that isn’t how Mitchell defines success. No Surrender was the ultimate victory because The Gathering stood dominant, leaving the naive Sting and the traitorous CM Punk trailing in their wake. Mitchell trades in the currency of death, violence and destruction. At Lockdown, Sting truly has no idea at all what he’s walking into.

    Standard Tag Team Match

AJ Styles & Jason Cross vs. The New Franchise (Shane Douglas & Michael Shane) (w/Madison)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

The Wildside duo hit the ring at a rate of knots and we start off hot in this tag team main event. Douglas bails out, leaving Shane to do his best. Tornado DDT from Cross, 450 Splash from Styles! They would seal a hasty victory but ‘The Franchise’ drags his own partner out the ring on the pin. Styles & Cross pursue…

But Madison is pushed in front. They aren’t going to hit a woman!

This allows The New Franchise to slow it down. They fancy that Jason Cross is the weak link of the team and he’s ground down with a sleeper hold. Douglas’s Belly to Belly connects but Cross kicks out. Escaping their clutches with a Kip-Up Hurricanrana, the young man makes the hot tag. AJ is a house of fire and he tips the balance of the match back in favour of the fan favourites but after he’s decked with the Sweet Shane Music, Cross tags himself back in. With a scoop and a slam, he sets up Michael Shane for the Crossfire but he’s distracted…

    vbWQJoG.jpg

By the assets of Madison on the ring apron!

The young man fawns over the attention as she motions that Michael Shane can be forgotten about. This here before her is a real man. But with a tap to the shoulder, Douglas gets Jason’s attention, driving in a kick that looked a little low before picking up the victory with the Franchiser.

    SkKupwa.jpg

    E7LsnNA.jpgt2HGU5R.jpg

AJ Styles re-enters the ring as The New Franchise wheel away in victory. Madison helps her man stumble away, arms around one another, she’s pretty much the only reason he’s able to stand. Styles checks over Cross but he’s not hurt, more disappointed that he fell for their tricks. Microphone in hand and very sure of himself, Shane Douglas challenges AJ Styles to a singles match at Lockdown, promising to franchise him just like he did his friend.

Inside the ring, having stood up to face down ‘The Franchise’ from a distance, AJ accepts the challenge. But he wants Shane Douglas alone. No Michael Shane, no Madison, no Jason Cross. The silly games, the distractions, the attacks from behind, they aren’t befitting of who he thought Shane Douglas was. At Lockdown, AJ Styles would really like to compete against the real Shane Douglas, bell to bell & fair and square. Douglas agrees, relishing the day that he’s going to tear down “Mr. TNA” and prove to everybody that the real Phenomenal Ones are him and Michael Shane, The New Franchise! With that, the talking is over and we fade to black with both AJ Styles and Shane Douglas sizing one another up at a distance.

Comment: Should be a good match! As much as I like D'Lo, he's not winning this one.

    Bobby Roode vs. Eric Young

Comment: Team Canada explodes :p Roode is some way up the card compared to E-Y at this point so I see him coming out on top.

Kenny King and Chris Sabin vs. Sonjay Dutt and Alex Shelley

Comment: Hard to call since King and Sabin have been on a roll but both Dutt and Shelley could do with a victory... I'll roll with keeping the momentum going for the heels.

Gail Kim and Lei D'Tapa vs. The Blossom Twins

Comment: Oh The Blossom Twins, that's a remember when :)

    ODB vs. Tara

Comment: Probably best to keep Tara strong.

The BroMans vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez

Comment: This team is ahead of The BroMans at this point in time.

  6. I thought Big Swole was booked and presented as though she was both better and more experienced than she actually was. She was a four year pro being asked to do eight to ten minutes during her first reps on live television because the division had nobody else at the time. It did feel like she was exposed and she never really recovered from that. She wasn't given time to adapt to live TV and what that entails, it's a different animal to smaller indie shows and taped events where the editors can help you out. And it's so hard once you have one or two stinkers because then the pressure is really on. I felt for her when she wrestled Shida on the Dynamite Anniversary because, for Swole, the match had to be good. And it was not. It was really quite bad. Only Shida could get away with it when Swole couldn't. I roughly agree that she didn't "make the grade", but the pandemic and AEW's hiring practices at the time did her no favours.

    TNA iMPACT! #27 Preview

    CARD SUBJECT TO CHANGE

    Wednesday, Week 3, August 2004

With two weeks to go before the Honda Center hosts Lockdown, we are in New Jersey for another episode of TNA iMPACT!

In the opening match of the evening, homecoming hero Kanyon has been chosen by Commissioner Roddy Piper to take on the ‘Enigma’ Jeff Hardy. Their first bout at iMPACT! #15 in Texas was a spectacle and this encounter should be equally entertaining and competitive. Jeff Hardy will be hungry to bounce back from last week’s defeat to Ron Killings whilst Kanyon will be determined to pick up some momentum for Big League ahead of Lethal Lockdown.

In our main event, The New Franchise will walk on the wildside when they take on the duo of AJ Styles and rival-turned-friend Jason Cross. Shane Douglas is in the crosshairs of the ‘Phenomenal One’ after his ambush at Inmates Rule but both he and his partner will have to pay equally close attention to Michael Shane and his girlfriend, the vixen herself, Madison.

Elsewhere tonight, Sting and Father Mitchell will come face to face ahead of his TNA World Heavyweight Championship defence against The Gathering’s ‘Master’, Dustin Rhodes. This rivalry has become increasingly personal but word has it that Mitchell is coming alone for the confrontation.

We make our return to Tennessee with Commissioner Roddy Piper already in the ring, standing between Jeff Jarrett on his right and Savio Vega on his left. They are here for a parlay before Lethal Lockdown, their differences momentarily put aside in the common interest of determining which team will enter the match first. Savio Vega is given the floor and acquiesces entirely. He doesn’t mind whether PRP get the man advantage or whether somebody from his team enters last. He just wants it written in stone that Big League will be there so they can get their ass kicked, cabron!

For Double J, that’s music to his ears and not just because he carries the “acoustic equaliser” with him. He’ll take the man advantage and he even tells Savio that he will enter the match first. Make no mistake about it, Big League will be there to run PRP out of TNA Wrestling altogether. Jarrett would never miss this opportunity, he doesn’t know why this company has these working relationships anyway. The stars are himself, Scott Steiner, Kanyon and Mike Awesome. They don’t need the IWA or anybody else in TNA Wrestling so long as they have Big League, competitors that have been champions everywhere they’ve gone and the only reason it hasn’t happened for them so far is because people keep poking their nose in his business!

Both leaders of their respective factions agree that at Lockdown, everything will come to a head and something will have to give…

    Standard Singles Match

    CM Punk vs. Silas Young

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Battle of the men with long brown hair! This is the Punker’s first match after Raven walked out on him and left him victim to a handicap beatdown at the hands of The Gathering. Any physical wounds that Punk sustained appear to have healed and he wrestles a clean and tidy match here, picking up the first near fall with the Welcome to Chicago. Despite Silas being dominated for much of the match, Mike Tenay picks up that his game inside the squared circle is progressing and it’s just a matter of time until he gets that breakthrough victory. He believes confidence to be all important for a wrestler and Punk never lacks for that, picking up the win courtesy of the Devil Lock DDT inside six minutes.

    4LQuROn.jpgokVz2XW.jpg

A straightforward enough victory for CM Punk and Jeremy Borash catches up with him for a few words. Admitting his mistakes, Punk says he never should have trusted Raven but he firmly believed that he had found the man who wanted to tear down The Gathering as much as he did. It turns out he was wrong, Raven wants to wash his hands of the entire business and retreat into himself like the loner he has become in the last few months. That’s perfectly fine for the Punker, just one less thing to worry about. He’s coming for The Gathering and he lays down the gauntlet…

Backstage, Team Canada are receiving a pep talk from Steve Corino. Kenny Omega is glumly looking at the floor after his defeat to Amazing Red but Chris Sabin gives him a pat on the shoulder and he perks up a little. Legend is holding his neck after Saturday’s “tough love” but Corino tells him to be Bobby Roode and Eric Young’s second when they compete in tag team action next week. From now on, failure will no longer be tolerated. They’re in hostile territory, everybody else in TNA wants to run them out and send them back up north but he’s not having it. Corino wants to see more victories and he’s going to lead by example against Simon Diamond right now.

Simon Diamond vs. Steve Corino (w/Scott D’Amore, Bobby Roode & Eric Young)

Despite the bluster from the Ace, he finds Diamond to be a tougher proposition than he was letting on. After two Vertical Suplexes, he hits the Northern Lights to complete the Simon Series for a near fall. Corino comes back with a wonderful Leg Lariat but Diamond responds with a Swinging Neckbreaker. In the interview room, we join Xplosion commentator Eric Gargiulo. He’s with the TNA Knockouts Champion Daffney and her accomplice in horror, Cheerleader Melissa. They’re in a surprisingly jovial mood considering they faced defeat on Saturday but Daff explains, that was just the second act where the hero of the story loses so they can learn and then triumph in the third act. Both her and Melissa know a little bit more about Meiko Satomura now, and at Lockdown, they’re going to put that knowledge to good use and hold on to
    their
title. As for Veronica, she may want a shot at Daffney’s title but they’ve got a feeling that a certain Canadian is going to make sure she never comes close to contention ever again!

”She wanted me to take a closer look and I am not impressed so far…”

Veronica has joined us on commentary for this clash and she’s not concerned about her upcoming match against the ‘Queen of Harts’, seeing it as a stepping stone before a date with Daffney. That said, Neidhart is in control for the majority of this match. A graduate of the Hart Dungeon, she is physical and cerebral, targeting her strikes towards Stock’s mid-section and looking to wear her down. She uses the ropes to choke her opponent, taking full advantage of referee Foxxy’s five count when Stock gets the rope break from a Camel Clutch. After a Double Underhook Suplex, Nattie locks in the Sharpshooter, contorting her opponent into the evitable and expected submission.

Veronica leaves her position, keeping her eyes firmly on Nattie as she leaves the announce desk and backs up the entrance ramp. Those two will collide at some point but Veronica sounded confident on commentary about her chances of emerging victorious. Mike Tenay puts over Neidhart as a competitive addition to the burgeoning Knockouts Division before segueing us into a video package…

With spliced footage from interviews and recent events, we hear from AJ Styles & Jason Cross, and Shane Douglas, Michael Shane & Madison of The New Franchise.

AJ Styles and Jason Cross acknowledge their match against one another, they enjoyed the competition but The New Franchise had to crash the occasion. The ‘Phenomenal One’ accuses Shane Douglas of cowardice, he ambushed AJ Styles on Saturday but next week, in tag team action, they’ll be face to face and there’s gonna be nowhere for Shane Douglas to run to.

According to The New Franchise, AJ Styles has looked past them. He thought he could get a lucky victory over Michael Shane and close this chapter but as far as they’re concerned, AJ’s opportunity has come and gone. He got his shot at Sting and he fell short, way short of Shane Douglas’s standards. Michael Shane would have done much better against the Stinger! In next week’s tag team match, they’re going to franchise the ‘Wildside chums’ and Douglas guffaws as Madison locks lips with her favourite man.

    Standard Tag Team Match

America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) vs. Glenn Gilbertti & Johnny Swinger

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

After their departure from Team Jarrett, both Gilbertti and Swinger have been rudderless and the difference in fortunes is clear here. G.G. tries to lead the match but despite having caused problems for Harris and Storm last year, the ‘Wildcat’ and the ‘Cowboy’ have gone from strength to strength in 2004 and they bulldoze their opponents with typically smashmouth offence. After the Last Call takes down Gilbertti, the Death Sentence finishes off Swinger.

Post-match, Jeremy Borash asks for AMW’s thoughts on the Rock N Roll Express picking up the victory on Saturday – but first, they need some beer and chocolate to celebrate another victory! Chris Harris says it’s going to be an honour to dance with the two legends at Lockdown but these TNA World Tag Team Championships are going nowhere. James Storm says that Morton and Gibson are rolling back the years but when they face America’s Most Wanted, they’re gonna be sorry ‘bout their damn luck!

    Standard Tag Team Match

The S.A.T. (Jose & Joel Maximo) vs. Elix Skipper & Kid Kash

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

With the TNA X-Division Championship clash set for Lockdown, Los Maximos have stepped up to fight for their cousin’s honour against the top contender and his tag team partner. This is a fast paced and dramatic contest between four talented individuals and The S.A.T. think they have it locked down after the Maximo Explosion to ‘Primetime’. Luckily, Kash is on hand to break up the pin and save the match for his team. Jose and Joel are remarkably athletic and have no qualms about throwing caution to the wind but it ultimately winds up being their undoing here when Jose attempts a Tope Con Hilo. He anticipates he will wipe out Skipper but he steps out of dodge, shoving Joel into his own partner’s audacious dive. From there, Skipper and Kash isolate the younger of the two brothers and put him away with the Spike Money Maker.

With Kid Kash having picked up the pin, message sent to the Amazing Red ahead of Lockdown and the TNA X-Division Champion comes down to ringside to check on his two cousins. As he kneels over to make sure Jose is okay, he looks up to find Kid Kash staring down at him. Fired up, Red climbs back to a vertical base and postures as though he wants to fight the challenger now but Kid Kash decides that discretion is the better part of valour, leaving Red to continue checking on his cousins.

    Standard Singles Match

Jerry Lynn vs. Dustin Rhodes (w/James Mitchell)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Since his arrival in TNA Wrestling, ‘The Master’ has remained undefeated whilst his opponent tonight has been struggling for momentum. Jerry Lynn has glimpses here, a Tornado DDT catching an early near fall but he undoes his own progress, ducking his head too soon on a Back Body Drop and eating an uppercut to the face. Dustin commands the squared circle and proves why he’s the #1 Contender, looking troubled very rarely here and hitting the home straight after a Snap Powerslam. On the outside of the ring, Father Mitchell cackles away, watching his child in The Gathering picking up the W with the Lone Star State of Mind.

    MKdodTm.jpg

    TxLgoZN.jpgrVxAxZf.jpg

James Mitchell joins Dustin Rhodes in the ring, shoving away referee Rudy Charles so he can raise the victor’s hand personally. Even though ‘The Master’ will be locked inside a steel cage with Sting in two week’s time, Father Mitchell does not seem worried at all and this leads both Mike Tenay and Don West to question whether they have lured the TNA World Heavyweight Champion into a trap.

    Standard Singles Match

    Jeff Hardy vs. Ron Killings

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

After his victory over D’Lo Brown on Saturday, Ron Killings earned the right to put Jeff Hardy to the sword for Commissioner Piper. Killings knows that Hardy can be dangerous when he starts to build momentum and he counters that by being as elusive as possible early on. Ducking outside, backing into the ropes, pulling the referee closer - whatever it takes to get an advantage. These are two extraordinary talents and when they do start trading bombs, we get a succession of near falls. Truth Conviction, only 2. Whisper In The Wind, only 2. Flying Jalapeno and Twist of Fate, both still just 2 counts.

    1krnXN5.jpg

As the drama begins to heighten, Commissioner Roddy Piper emerges from the entrance tunnel for a closer look.

After a Scoop and a Slam, Hardy gets on the second rope and pays homage to his brother with a Flying Leg Drop. ‘The Enigma’ tries to follow up with a Clothesline but Killings ducks with the splits and then starches Hardy with a Jumping Corkscrew Superkick. Truth or Consequences brings another near fall but getting a third wind, Hardy responds with a Sit-Out Jawbreaker and drops Killings to the canvas. Pulling off his shirt to the screams of the ladies in attendance, Hardy climbs up top…

    7vDTmWQ.jpg

”The Enigma is going high risk!”

    jDWA57W.jpg

”It’s over if he hits this Mike!”

Jeff Hardy leaps off the top rope with the Swanton Bomb… but Killings rolls out the way and Hardy crashes into the canvas!

Both men stagger back to a vertical base, exchanging right hands. Yay! Nay! Yay! Nay! Killings blocks the third punch and suddenly, strikingly, he jumps and drives Hardy into the mat with the Lie Detector. There is no kicking out of that move, especially not in these deep waters and Rudy Charles duly obliges in counting Jeff Hardy down for the three count.

    v2Id1tq.jpg

    1krnXN5.jpgbe9VPZ7.jpg9msYDvG.jpg

After the bell rings, Roddy Piper is thrilled to see Jeff Hardy staring at the lights and he enters the squared circle to rub salt into the wounds. This is only the beginning! But he’s surprised by Ron Killings, who eases the Commissioner away. It’s typical that he would forget all about Ron, there’s been a conspiracy against him since day one, ever since he was put in the ring against Jeff Jarrett on the first ever iMPACT. Where are his opportunities? He defeats D’Lo Brown so he gets Jeff Hardy? What about the TNA World Heavyweight Championship? What about a shot at Sting? Killings proclaims himself the ‘King of the Mountain’ and with a mic drop, we fade to black with Ron standing tall inside the Skyhawk Arena.

Had two segments building a match with Scorpio Sky that never happened. Did an open challenge where he faced two previously unsigned wrestlers who have done absolutely nothing since losing to him. Then he got definitively beat by Cody who kicked out his finish. What a raw deal, lol.

    Standard Trios Match

Ultimo Dragon, Dragon Kid & Jerrelle Clark vs. Team Canada (Legend, Eric Young & Bobby Roode) (w/Scott D’Amore & Steve Corino)

    TIME LIMIT: 20 MINUTES

We kick off with fast paced action here and it’s the fan favourite trio that starts off hot. Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker from Ultimo to Roode, Springboard Hurricanrana from the Kid has E-Y sprawling to the outside and the Tiger Feint Armbar from Clark to Legend leaves Team Canada regrouping. Garguilo says that Bobby Roode and Eric Young are the established tag team within D’Amore’s group and after they hit a Suplex-Crossbody combination, they isolate Jerrelle Clark in their side of the ring.

Dragon Kid comes in but we’ll never know what he was attempting when he climbed onto Legend’s shoulders because the stalwart flattened him with an Electric Chair Facebuster. The second tag is more definitive, Ultimo Dragon turning the tide, picking up a close near fall on Roode with a Brainbuster. Two more tags later and Jerrelle is left duking it out with Legend. ‘Mr. 630’ elbows his way out the Hospital Job and leaves Legend in dangerous territory after a Pumphandle Reverse Suplex. From the top turnbuckle, Clark hits the sensational 630 Senton! The Asylum jumps to their feet, big pop for the amazing move and the pinfall is academic.

    mZvdgY3.jpgINwa3CG.jpg

With a shake of the head, neither Steve Corino nor Scott D’Amore are impressed. Everything was supposed to change! It’s a disappointing defeat for Team Canada and absolutely not the way they wanted to start the night with Kenny Omega challenging for the TNA X-Division Championship next. The ‘Canadian Ace’ wonders if it’s time to send a message and he tells Legend that he needs to take it like a man and learn from it.

    k3s1yj3.jpg

Legend doesn’t resist nor fight back when he’s put in the Three-Quarter Facelock and Steve Corino nods to D’Amore. Then he hits Old School Style to punish the loser.

    jDWA57W.jpg

”A bit of tough love from the leader of Team Canada!”

But rather than leaving him laying, Corino orders Roode and Young to help Legend back to his feet and the group leave the ringside area together.

    TNA X-Division Championship

Amazing Red © vs. Kenny Omega

    TIME LIMIT: 20 MINUTES

If drama within Team Canada was supposed to distract Omega, the ‘Canadian Prodigy’ doesn’t show it in the first act here. With no D’Amore at ringside, he uses his size advantage and his muscular upper body physique, putting a beating on Red early on. Deceptively strong, Omega hoists Red up with consummate ease, delaying before slamming him to the canvas with a Vertical Suplex. Big German Suplex from Omega but agile as ever, Red rotates over and lands on his feet. He charges in but is absolutely starched with a big Clothesline, turned inside out and left in a heap with his face tasting the canvas. If Red thinks he’s safe lying on his stomach, think again! Omega deadlifts him up with a Gutwrench, twisting his adversary up and around to his shoulders before planting him with a Sit-Out Powerbomb. For the Challenger, this is as good as it gets. An Enzuigiri from Amazing Red sends Omega outside but he’s still in the crosshairs, a Tornillo from the inside to the outside takes down young Kenny.

Back inside and Red Star Press brings the near fall. Omega gets the hooks for the Dragon Suplex but Red drops down, grabbing the legs for a quick Victory Roll-Up and another near fall for the Champion. Climbing up his opponent’s shoulders from behind, Red swivels from the Electric Chair position into a Hurricanrana and holds on to the pin for another near fall. Omega comes back with a Bridging Tiger Suplex but charging the corner, he hits the turnbuckles and falls to the mat as Red ascends to the top and comes down with the Infrared for the victory.

    1krnXN5.jpg8fZamDv.jpg

We find Commissioner Piper standing with Kid Kash, surveying the screen for the action happening in the arena. They’re both pretty impressed but the youngster cuts to the chase. He’s been on a roll lately, he thinks he’s the strongest possible challenger and he wants the next title shot at the TNA X-Division Championship. Without a moment’s hesitation, Piper agrees and makes the match official for Lockdown!

    Standard Tag Team Match

Rock N Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. Sonny Siaki & Ekmo

    TIME LIMIT: 20 MINUTES

America’s Most Wanted have told Gibson and Morton that if they win here, they will be given their much-desired TNA World Tag Team Championship opportunity at Lockdown. Both Rock N Rollers have their way with Sonny Siaki early on, working over the Samoan stud and taking advantage of his inexperience in the chain wrestling. Arm wringers, arm drags, hip tosses, drop toe holds, headlock takeovers; they really put him through the ringer. That is, until he tags out to Ekmo and the big man is able to knock both Morton & Gibson down to size. Naturally, it’s Ricky Morton that winds up in peril. He tries to rally The Asylum behind him but it doesn’t look pretty after a Samoan Drop from the big man. Siaki sends Ricky to the ropes and ducks his head, but Morton sunset flips over him, forward rolls and tags in his partner!

Like a house of fire, Gibson comes in with clotheslines, right hands, a cheeky eye rake for the big man. Morton helps his partner negotiate the numbers advantage but they’re both backed into opposite corners. Tandem Irish Whips but they ring around the roses and the Rock N Roll Express come back to strike their opponents. Gibson spots Ekmo charging in and moves out the way, allowing the big man to collide with his own partner! Siaki drops to the canvas and a Double Clothesline sends Ekmo tumbling out the ring and down to the outside, crashing to the floor in an ugly heap. As the Samoan stud gets back to a vertical base on wobbly legs, the Double Dropkick puts him down for the 3 and Rock N Roll Express have booked themselves a date with AMW.

Gibson and Morton celebrate their victory whilst Ekmo stomps back up the entrance tunnel on his own. Sonny Siaki comes to, waltzing off, shaking his head in disappointment and frustration. Eric Gargiulo says that if AMW are true to their word, they will be defending their titles against the legendary duo at Lockdown but then he sends us backstage to join Mike Tenay…

    EgXdZpz.jpg

He brings up the great victories for Jerrelle Clark and Amazing Red, telling us that the X-Division is really heating up and we can expect more exciting young talents to join the frey in the weeks and months to come. He informs us that he is backstage in the Big League’s private locker room…

    ZJvIthU.jpgCKoNNP7.jpgkEiYVPy.jpg

And the camera pans across, finding Don Callis, Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner stretched out on a leather sofa. They’re not too pleased about ‘The Professor’ interrupting them but he’s a broadcast journalist and he’s here to find out their thoughts ahead of Scott Steiner’s TNA in-ring debut later tonight. Jeff Jarrett humours his request. For too long now Savio Vega and his Puerto Rican posse have stuck their nose in Big League business. Him beating Ray Gonzalez at Caribbean Combat was just business, it wasn’t personal like Savio thinks but their rivalry has gone too far now to walk it back.

According to Scott Steiner, later tonight,
    Ricky WHAT’S-HIS-NAME
is going to be destroyed by the ‘Genetic Freak’! He’s going to wrap the LARGEST ARMS IN THE WORLD around his neck, break him in two and put him on the scrapheap where he belongs because he’s just a big fat piece of trash! He’s here in TNA Wrestling to win titles and he’s surrounded by winners, he’s a Big League star whilst the PRP are all losers. After he’s done with
    Rick Bandana
or whatever his stupid name is, none of those idiots are even going to show up at Lockdown and the Big League will spend their night on fine wine and even finer ladies instead!

    Standard Tag Team Match

Meiko Satomura & Veronica vs. Daffney & Cheerleader Melissa

    TIME LIMIT: 20 MINUTES

Our fan favourites make for an uneasy alliance here. Meiko Satomura will be competing for the TNA Knockouts title at Lockdown, a position Veronica wishes she was in but she now has Nattie Neidhart to worry about. Consequently, Daffney & Melissa control this match early on, uniting and working together to isolate both ladies through different periods of this match. A Frankensteiner from Daff to Satomura doesn’t get the job done and Melissa’s Backdrop Driver can only land a near fall on Veronica. But once the union is secured, Satomura and Veronica become more than just the sum of their parts. A Spinning Backfist from Meiko leaves the Cheerleader vulnerable and Veronica is able to put her out of commission with the Widow’s Peak.

Legal woman Daffney blindsides her though, driving a double sledge into Veronica’s back before telling her that she will never get a shot at her title so long as she’s the champion. But this moment of hubris is her downfall, admonishing Veronica leaves the ‘Scream Queen’ wide open to Satomura’s Roundhouse Kick. Daffney gets back to one knee but the Axe Kick to the top of the head takes her down and she’s easy pickings for the Death Valley Bomb. Just weeks out from her title opportunity, the Challenger pins the Champion and holds the advantage heading into Lockdown.

    Standard Singles Match

Ricky Banderas (w/Savio Vega) vs. Scott Steiner (w/Don Callis)

    TIME LIMIT: 20 MINUTES

He may well be oversized here but what Ricky Banderas lacks in stature, he makes up for in unpredictability. Steiner is surprised by the Headscissors Takedown and eats a couple of Clotheslines before ducking to the outside. Mind you, ‘El Mesias’ can’t afford to slug it out against such a powerful adversary and Steiner gets the better of him as they trade hands. Steinerline and a kiss of the largest arms in the world precede the driving of the elbow into Banderas’s sternum. Vega urges Ricky on, catching the ire of Steiner. SHUT THE HELL UP! But Ricky comes back with a Spear, Dagger Through The Heart for a near fall. With the referee’s back turned, Vega gives Steiner a shot to the cheeks! Callis is irate with this interference and he gets the referee’s attention…

    mKiDiD4.jpg

”Slick Johnson is having a hard time controlling this one…

With the official’s gaze directed away from the action, Steiner delivers a low blow, a kick to the grapefruits has Ricky doubled over! But Vega spotted that and he’s having none of this. His boy isn’t being screwed again! Savio rolls in the ring and drives the sole of his boot straight into Steiner’s face, a savate kick drops the ‘Genetic Freak’ and as the two of them tangle on the canvas, referee Slick Johnson feels he has no choice but to call for the bell.

    MKdodTm.jpg

    kEiYVPy.jpgz2HTYUY.jpgax6bq8Y.jpg

A bit of revenge for what happened to him at No Surrender, Vega gets his piece of meat, driving his right hand into his rival’s skull repeatedly. But Scott Steiner throws him off, catching the Power Player in his massive arms with a Bearhug, lifting him off his feet before hurling him over his head with a Belly to Belly Suplex. Impressive power but Banderas is back up now and he tees off on Steiner with punches of his own. As Scott scrambles towards the ropes…

    CKoNNP7.jpg

Jeff Jarrett is on hand to pull on his mate’s right leg, helping Scott Steiner drop down and get away from the ring. Banderas and Vega take command of the squared circle, urging the Big League to bring the fight back to them but neither Double J nor his ‘Consultant’ are interested in entertaining that particular offer. They back away, persuading a furious Scott Steiner to leave it for Lockdown.

    Grudge Match

    D'Lo Brown vs. Ron Killings

    TIME LIMIT: 20 MINUTES

This match is happening after D’Lo answered Killings’s open challenge with Commissioner Piper adding an extra dimension on Wednesday by announcing that the winner will face Jeff Hardy on iMPACT #26. This is a first time singles match and like many, Killings is surprised by D’Lo’s deceptive power and taken for a ride early on courtesy of a Spinebuster. ‘The Truth’ finds refuge outside the ring but from the top turnbuckle, Brown soars and flattens his opponent with what can only be described as a Body Attack. Back in the ring, Killings tugs on Brown’s singlet, sending him throat first into the middle rope and this enables Ron to start using his superior cardiovascular fitness, grinding down Brown with a combination of impact moves and holds.

    mKiDiD4.jpg

”Killings isn’t getting down with the Brown but he’s certainly getting Brown down with this trip to Truth town.”

For D’Lo, the opportunity to make a comeback arrives when Killings makes the misjudgment of attempting the Truth Conviction. He’s unable to lift D’Lo and the bigger man blocks the attempt, lifting Killings up before dropping him stomach first over the ropes. After several knockdowns, Killings gets sent to the ropes and returns to center, planted with the Sky High! Brown has pinned many with this move but it isn’t enough to put Ron down for the three. To D’Lo’s credit, there’s no panic or hesitation. He immediately goes up top and dives off with the ‘Lo Down…

… but he only lands on the canvas!

All 270-odd pounds of Brown came crashing down, splatting on the mat as Killings had his wits about him enough to roll out the way. Dazed, both men return to their feet but ‘The Truth’ seizes the day, hitting the Lie Detector for a rather sudden pinfall victory.

    Challenge Match

    AJ Styles vs. Jason Cross

    TIME LIMIT: 30 MINUTES

A quick handshake gets us going here before these two demonstrate how well versed they are with one another. Arm wringer into a hammerlock from Styles but Cross twists his way out into a forward roll, a kip up and an arm wrench. To the corner they go with Cross attempting a Monkey Flip but AJ flips over and lands on his feet. Jason runs the ropes, leapfrog from AJ, drop down and then his beautiful sharp Dropkick… but Cross saw that coming and held onto the ropes, leading us to a respectful stalemate in the center of the ring.

    mKiDiD4.jpg

    “Sportsmanship!”

We kick into a higher gear as AJ sends Cross bailing to the outside. Asai Moonsault attempt from Styles but Jason moves out the way. Styles adjusts in mid-air to land on his feet but as soon as he’s regathered his bearings, he spots Cross in mid-flight and finds himself flattened with the Asai Moonsault! Back inside the ring, both a Standing Shooting Star Press and a Reverse Suplex bring near falls for Cross, very much the Vegas underdog here but trying to hold his own. AJ tries to come back with the Phenomenon DDT but Cross has seen this one before, twisting swiftly to hook AJ in a Facelock before using the ropes for momentum to plant him with a Tornado DDT. The momentum shifts again and AJ finds the mark with the Phenomenal Combo, staggering his opponent before hooking him into the Torture Rack. Styles tries to swivel out into a Sit-Out Powerbomb but Cross counters into a Hurricanrana, pinning Styles to the canvas with both legs gripped under his arms. Referee Rudy Charles is in position and counts the one and the two with his hand barely inches away from planting his hand on the canvas for the three before AJ manages to shoot his left shoulder up!

    jDWA57W.jpg

”That was a 2.99 count there Eric!”

It’s been a relatively close match but this is where the AJ Styles of a couple of years ago may have flagged and faltered. Cross had taken advantage of such breaks in the past but here, AJ waits for an opportunity and strikes. Cross hoists him up for a Scoop Slam but Styles shifts his weight, slipping behind his opponent before planting him with a Reverse DDT. Up top goes AJ, flying off with a spectacular 450 Splash for a very close near fall. But rather than ruminating on that kick out, Styles quickly follows up, pulling Cross up and between his legs before hoisting him up and flattening him with the Styles Clash. He was troubled at times and tested by an opponent that knows his game well but the cream rose to the top in the end, a pinfall victory for AJ Styles and further proof he calls himself the ‘‘Phenomenal One’ for a reason.

    DjSKCLk.jpg

    4LQuROn.jpgE7LsnNA.jpg

Plenty of respect after the match, a handshake in the middle of the ring and a short embrace. For Jason Cross, it was an opportunity to vy with one of the best wrestlers in TNA but Rudy Charles raises the winner’s hand before Jeremy Borash tries to catch a word with Mr. TNA. He asks about the match and Styles takes a moment to acknowledge that Jason was an awkward adversary. There were moments in there when he had to dig deep in there but he got the victory. Now, his sights are set firmly on the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. He wants another shot at Sting and he’s laying down the gauntlet now. Sting vs. AJ Styles, let’s get it on!

    vbWQJoG.jpgVovMteC.jpg

    ”Wait wait wait…”

Unfortunately, Michael Shane arrives from the entrance tunnel, flanked as always by the vivacious Madison. He wants to know how AJ Styles could possibly consider himself the top contender considering his recent victories have been so damn lucky. Against Daniels? Lucky roll-up pin. Against Shane? Lucky dodge of the Superkick. Against Cross? Lucky slow count from the referee.

No, Shane believes that AJ has a lot more proving of himself to do before he can earn a match for the title and it starts with The New Franchise…

    t2HGU5R.jpg

From behind, Shane Douglas attacks AJ Styles!

‘The Franchise’ had come through the crowd and rolled in the ring. Jeremy Borash hightails it out of there as Douglas stomps away at AJ and soon, his protege Michael Shane joins the beatdown. Together, they pull a weary Styles back to a vertical base and despite missing the mark on Wednesday, this time the Sweet Shane Music connects. They ascend the turnbuckles, raising their arms and smirking, basking in the disapproval of The Asylum. They kneel down by AJ, lifting his head up and pointing to his semi-conscious face, deriding our audience at home for treating this man as their hero as we slowly fade to black.

    Post Show Notes

After the cameras stopped rolling, Jason Cross returned to the ring with a steel chair and ran off The New Franchise. He and AJ Styles stood tall to send the crowd home happy.

  14. I'm a huge Nash fan so it would have been cool to see him show up in TNA in your game, but yeah, tough to compete with WWE. Also, hope you manage to keep Jeff around, though that will likely be tough as well.

I offered Nash a handshake deal and the very next day, WWE came in with a banger of a deal. I'm pretty sure they signed him just to jilt me but whatever, plans will have to change haha. With regards Hardy, I'm going to keep y'all in the dark because I'm a tease like that :p

  15. King of the Mountain match for a future shot at the World Heavyweight Championship

Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson vs. AJ Styles vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. Bobby Roode

Comment: This is a hard match to call but whilst I think the end game is AJ vs. Bully Ray, I think this title shot will be used down the line so I am going with Roode.

    TNA World Heavyweight Championship

Bully Ray © vs. James Storm

Comment: Storm is a strong contender but Bully is keeping this for a bit yet.

    TNA X-Division Championship

Jeff Hardy © vs. Chris Sabin

Comment: This should be a great match but Jeff is just getting started.

    TNA Tag Team Championships

Bad Influence © vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez

Comment: I always thought Chavo & Hernandez were okay but they don't actually feel like much of a tag team to me.

    TNA Knockouts Championship

Gail Kim © vs. Velvet Sky vs. Tara

Comment: I can see Gail dropping it to Mickie James, but not either of these two.

    TNA Television Championship

    Devon © vs. Magnus

Comment: I just figure that one title should change hands... Devon must be running out of challengers now.

    Bonus Questions:

Longest match of the night? King of the Mountain

After touring the road with TNA iMPACT, Dutch was grateful to have the entire crew back home in Tennessee and on Friday, he touched base with the creative team.

    9SqLQtr.jpg

“Ma boy is gonna be a great headliner, no doubt about it daddeh.”

Dutch had been keen to do right by Dustin Rhodes, a talented performer but with his fair share of personal issues. Between his second divorce and a history of substance abuse, Dutch wanted to give Dustin a sense of stability. With the company behind him, he could get back on the right track and in the ring, Dutch was convinced that few were as polished and clean as ‘The Master’. Lockdown was an opportunity and against Sting, Dutch was excited to see the two of them tear it up.

    CKoNNP7.jpg

    “Kev is a no-go I’m afraid.”

With a major event named Bound for Glory set for October, Dutch was looking for a headliner to compete against Jeff Jarrett. He had sounded out Kevin Nash, asking Jeff to make contact and see if the multi-time World Champion was available to come in. Unfortunately, Nash had already been made an attractive offer for a WWE return and Dixie Carter was unwilling to match the salary expectations and bonuses. Giving Kevin Nash creative control was a stretch even for Dixie in the headlights.

    IxzsRLj.jpg

“And in new business, WWE have offered Jeff Hardy a contract but I have counter-offered and he’s going to seriously consider both options.”

  17. TNA iMPACT #25 - Wednesday, Week 1, August 2004

So you get less coverage on TV than from PPV broadcast? Not familiar with the game, I read just for the pleasure of it. So ,in this fictional world, we will say that TNA has busy fans who buy only the big shows and Dutch is a hell of a booker. I mean conversion rate TV/PPV buys would be over 100%. Give the man a bonus.

Hahaha, brilliant. :D Yes, let's go with that. He's a hell of a booker. :p

    Standard Singles Match

AJ Styles vs. Michael Shane (w/Madison)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Mike Tenay tells us that after missing out on action in Philly, AJ Styles wanted to wrestle first tonight and was granted his wish. This is a strong opening match and Michael Shane handles his end of the bargain well, using his slight size advantage to good use as he stunts AJ’s initial momentum with a high Back Body Drop. In classic Styles fashion, he lands more on his behind than his back, simply too athletic for his own good. With Shane applying a side headlock, Madison pulls referee Andrew Thomas’s attention away from the action and her hunk pops his feet on the second rope to apply extra leverage.

We begin to go back and forth as Styles comes back with the Phenomenon DDT but gets caught with a Brainbuster and the Picture Perfect Elbow Drop for a close near fall. Trying to close the deal, Shane tries the Sweet Shane Music but AJ ducks underneath the superkick and responds with a kick of his own, the Pele! His subsequent Torture Rack Bomb isn’t enough to score the elusive 3 count but after a Springboard Forearm knocks Shane for six, Styles locks down the victory courtesy of the Styles Clash.

    IT’SSSSSSS STIIIIIIIING!

The TNA World Heavyweight Champion is decked in his signature black trenchcoat, holding his title belt in his left hand and his bat in his right hand. Once inside the ring, he puts down the bat close to his feet and takes JB’s microphone to address his rivalry with The Gathering in recent weeks. First of all, he wants to send a shout out to CM Punk. It was good to lock horns and be tested by him, until next time… But maybe the Punker will choose better friends because as Sting knows very well, you cannot trust anybody in TNA Wrestling!

Last week, he took out Northcutt and Bateman and he doesn’t expect we’ll be seeing them any time soon. He’s fine with being prodded, that comes with the territory, but if you push too far he will show you exactly what showtime looks like. At Lockdown, Dustin Rhodes is next. He’s Mitchell’s favourite now, right? Calm and collected, Sting announces that he’s putting his title belt on the line so he can get his hands on ‘The Master’. Dustin thinks he’s got it all figured out but he’s simply playing checkers and ‘The Icon’ is playing chess. Inside four sides of steel, it's a checkmate for The Gathering!

    Standard Singles Match

    Low-Ki vs. Steve Corino (w/Scott D’Amore)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

This is Corino’s iMPACT debut and the formidable Low-Ki is far from an easy starter. The ‘Canadian Ace’ spends most of the first half of this match reeling on the back foot, surviving the onslaught of stiff kicks that have become Ki’s trademark. Corino hits a beautiful Leg Lariat but Ki responds with a Roundhouse Kick to the temple. After the ‘Warrior’ hops on the second rope for a Slingshot move, from the outside D’Amore clips his foot and sends him stumbling straight into an STO from Corino. Andrew Thomas admonishes the Coach for his interference but he feigns ignorance, watching as his newest recruit into Team Canada presses his advantage and picks up the victory with his signature Neckbreaker, the Old School Style.

A sneaky victory again for Team Canada but results are results and that is why D’Amore has brought in his Ace. As those two have their hand raised by Andrew Thomas, we jump backstage to the Commissioner’s office.

    Iv8PqST.jpg

We find Miss Neilsen is working diligently on all sorts of paperwork and fielding phone calls. The Commissioner isn’t here yet. She doesn’t know when he’s expected to arrive. She’s just his assistant! She starts to wonder if she should re-apply for a manager’s license and consider work in talent representation but that train of thought is interrupted by a knock on the door.

    Qb3jWaG.jpgHYSY58E.jpg

And the TNA Knockout’s Champion Daffney is welcomed in, alongside the delightfully devious Cheerleader Melissa.

Miss Neilsen wanted to see Daff because TNA management were very impressed last week. At this, Daffney grins, eliciting a shine to glow in the presence of such praise. It was a great performance! It was concise, strong, convincing… all the qualities that are loved by the powers that be.

Yes, Meiko Satomura certainly won them over in her victory over Allison Danger.

What? How dare she patronise the Champion like that? Melissa is disappointed by this turn of phrase and puts her arm around an upset Daffney, consoling her in the wake of such purposefully misleading behaviour. Unfortunately, Miss Neilsen isn’t finished being the bearer of bad news because the Lockdown match is now official and Daffney will defend her title against Meiko Satomura. The ‘Scream Queen’ can hardly believe she was summoned for this but she takes a few deep breaths and resists her urge to, well, scream.

This is fine. They were going to have to deal with the Japanese girl at some point or another… they may as well get her out of the way now. They stroll off in seeming contentment but a bang further down the corridor spooks the Commissioner’s assistant and she breathes a sigh before returning to work.

Danny Doring & Roadkill vs. Sonny Siaki & Samoa Joe

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

This match is taking place after Sonny Siaki defeated Danny Doring on Xplosion and was challenged to face him in tag team match. With Ekmo in Japan, Siaki has formed an alliance with the undefeated ‘Samoan Submission Machine’ and honestly, this match is all Samoa Joe. He already holds singles victories over his two opponents and he’s in equally dominant form here. Siaki is briefly troubled after the Lancaster Lariat of Lust but once he tags out, the Gold Rush winner takes it easy on the apron. After flooring Roadkill with the STJoe, the Enzuigiri in the corner rocks Danny Doring and the Muscle Buster brings the victory for Samoa Joe.

    Standard Singles Match

Ray Gonzalez vs. Mike Awesome (w/Don Callis)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

‘Mr. Rayting’ has started rolling recently, picking up victories over Glenn Gilbertti and Kanyon in his last two singles outings. Mike Awesome, meanwhile, has only lost one singles match all year and that was to Sting at Caribbean Combat. This match follows the expected trend of Awesome using his size and power whereas Gonzalez gets technical and tries to piece up his opponent’s left leg with a variety of strikes, submissions and holds. Awesome hits a Powerslam but Gonzalez goes back downstairs with a chop block. The big man is locked in a Half Crab but he has too much power in his legs and brute forces an escape. After a nasty Lariat, Awesome hoists the Puerto Rican over his head for the Awesome Bomb. Unfortunately, he has a hard time basing himself on the leg and Gonzalez is able to slide down his opponent’s back before going downstairs again with a Dropkick to the Knee. It’s not pretty but it sure is effective and when Gonzalez snaps on the Figure Four Leglock, Awesome has a dilemma…

    7vDTmWQ.jpg

”Does Awesome need to think about living to fight another day here?”

At ringside, our cameras catch Don Callis telling Awesome to think of Lockdown. He needs to be in fighting shape, he needs to think bigger picture! And after a minute or so trapped in the hold, Awesome simply nods to referee Slick Johnson who calls for the bell and awards the submission win to Gonzalez.

    mUL3IEq.jpg

    ZJvIthU.jpg

Getting back to his feet, Awesome isn’t stumbling too bad but is naturally frustrated at having given up the match. The ‘Consultant’ enters the ring and tries to calm his senses with the mantra of
bigger picture, bigger picture, bigger picture…
Gonzalez has his hand raised and turns his head towards the tunnel…

Gonzalez dives through the ropes in front of him, getting out of dodge before he’s the victim of a 4-on-1 assault. He backs up the ramp as Jarrett takes the microphone and says that enough is enough, he thought beating Savio Vega would get rid of the IWA from TNA Wrestling altogether but he has to think again. Big League will see these Puerto Rican Power Players inside Lethal Lockdown!

    Standard Singles Match

    Veronica vs. Emi Sakura

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

With a victory here, Veronica will put herself in contention for a shot for Daffney’s TNA Knockouts title. Emi Sakura is a strong competitor and pinpoints her attack on her opponent’s lower back. With an STO backbreaker and then a double-armed backbreaker, the Joshi newcomer is out to show she shouldn’t be taken lightly. After a Clothesline, Veronica comes back with a Standing Moonsault for a close near fall. She telegraphs a Powerslam, Emi holding on the ropes before connecting with a Hip Attack. But attempting a Crucifix Driver, Sakura finds herself hoisted up into the Fireman’s Carry position and Veronica swings Emi off her shoulders into a Sidewalk Slam. Despite a convincing effort from Sakura on debut, Veronica’s power shone through in the end and the Widow’s Peak brought home the victory.

    MmORGEZ.jpg

    eGmVQ90.jpg

Veronica has the all important check in the win column and referee Foxxy Dreams raises her hand but she winces, stretching out her sore back before taking the microphone. Meiko Satomura is getting the title shot but after Lockdown, Veronica is putting both her and Daffney on notice. Whomever is the Champion on the 1st September should know that their title reign is running on borrowed time.

    JXXhLLD.jpg

However, the sound of a screeching guitar riff and a wah-wah guitar riff introduces Nattie Neidhart.

Holding a microphone of her own, she warns Veronica of thinking too far ahead. At No Surrender, Veronica may have failed to capture the TNA Knockouts Championship but she also took that opportunity away from others. Namely, the ‘Queen of Harts’ herself when she was thrown over the top rope by the woman standing in the ring.

The only date in Veronica’s calendar is a clash with Bret Hart’s niece and next week, Nattie wants this lady to take a good close look at her game when she takes on Sarah Stock. That way, Veronica will have no excuses when she’s locked in the Sharpshooter and has to tap out to the best damn Knockout in all of TNA Wrestling!

On the canvas floor, Fuji is teaching them chain wrestling and submissions, encouraging them to show no mercy as they twist and stretch the bodies of their adversaries.

    VrvmeXk.jpg

To one side, the Somber Serpent applies a seated armbar and falls backwards, eliciting a snap as he breaks the arm of a rookie. The youngster screams in pain but is admonished by Fuji for displaying weakness. As the young man stands up fleeing, the trainer kicks him in the backside and hopes he never returns. On the opposite side of the room, Ultimo Dragon watches as a man in a blue and golden mask hits a Corkscrew Standing Moonsault on his opponent. Damn, that’s impressive athleticism.

After spotting Ultimo Dragon by the door, Fuji snaps his fingers and his students stop immediately, standing up straight to direct their gaze towards their sensei. Fuji takes several strides forward, meeting Ultimo Dragon face to face in the middle of the canvas floor. The Kid has been training hard and Ultimo tells Ricky Fuji that next time, he will defeat his nemesis. Somber Serpent’s interest is piqued by this and he breaks ranks to stare down the veteran Junior Heavyweight but Fuji raises his left hand and stops him dead in his tracks. Ultimo is warned that he’s not just putting himself and his protege against the Serpent… no, they’re fighting the entire Fuji Dojo. A maniacal laugh sends Ultimo away and the seven students are ordered to return to their drills.

That “floozy” Madison tried to get involved but they weren’t falling for any tricks. Bell to bell, AMW believe they can beat anybody.

Gargiulo asks them about Rock N Roll Express and Storm says there’s mutual respect there for sure, they are two legends and AMW will be privileged to face them. But first, they need to know that Morton & Gibson are worthy challengers. At Inmates Rule, they need to do what America’s Most Wanted have done. Steel Cage Match

Raven & CM Punk vs. The Gathering (Abyss & Brother Julio) (w/James Mitchell)

    TIME LIMIT: 15 MINUTES

Inside the cage, Punk makes a beeline for Julio and Raven tees off on the man that took him out at Genesis. Mind you, Raven is tossed into the turnbuckles and falls to the canvas. Punk tosses Julio into the steel cage face first but a rake to eyes from his former tag team partner and a Black Hole Slam from Abyss leave Punk in a heap. With the Straight Edge star put to one side, they offer Raven safe passage, pointing to the cage door…

    7vDTmWQ.jpg

”Maybe Father Mitchell will bury the hatchet with Raven after all!”

Raven considers their offer as Julio chokes Punk in the corner with his foot. Abyss stands in the middle of the ring stoically, blocking any sort of intervention as James Mitchell cackles, opening the door himself and reminding Raven that this man he’s teaming with is the student who turned on him.

The lonesome Raven considers his next move carefully.

    jDWA57W.jpg

”CM Punk has been hung out to dry OH I DON’T BELIEVE THIS!”

Despite the glee of the Father, Raven walks away from the scene. Up the entrance ramp he departs, leaving us with a handicap situation in the ring.

Nobody could ever accuse CM Punk of taking anything lightly and he fights back, decking Julio with a Pepsi Twist. With a knee to the butt of jaw, he rocks Abyss but ‘The Monster’ simply shoves him off a Bulldog attempt into a Clothesline from his partner. After a Black Hole Slam from Abyss and the Jalapeno Popper from Julio, The Gathering pin their former member with the Powerbomb-Neckbreaker combination, putting him down with the Near Death Experience.

Father Mitchell is delighted with his handiwork and Punk comes to his senses, shaking his head as the cage is lifted. With the ringside area clear after a commercial break, the sound of ‘Modest’ brings out Jeff Hardy.

    4LQuROn.jpgbe9VPZ7.jpg

Inside the ring, he is interviewed by Jeremy Borash and asked about No Surrender. After defeating Roddy Piper, the Commissioner told Hardy that provided he’s in power, the ‘Enigma’ will never be TNA World Heavyweight Champion. For Jeff, that wasn’t surprising. He was right all along about Roddy Piper, he represents the system and institutes the will of TNA management. They hold back the Jeff Hardy’s of the world, they stand in their way but Hardy knows that none of the fans in the Impact Zone will stand for that! Together they will rise above the system and he will become the Franchise Player that he was always meant to be.

    1krnXN5.jpg

The sound of bagpipes and drums brings out the Commissioner and he reminds Hardy that he was serious at No Surrender. Jeff Hardy as TNA World Heavyweight Champion would not be best for this burgeoning wrestling brand and since he’s the man with the badge, he makes the matches around here. If Hardy wants to climb the proverbial ladder, it will be a long slog for him. He’ll have to survive Piper’s Poison. Next week, on iMPACT, he takes on the winner of Ron ‘The Truth’ Killings versus D’Lo Brown… and this first test is just the beginning for Jeff Hardy!

DDP tries to roll out to the apron but Kanyon catches him, standing on the second rope to vertical suplex Page from the outside back into the ring. Page comes back with his trademark Gutwrench Gutbuster and signals that it’s time for the Diamond Cutter. But when he hooks Kanyon, the always-innovative Big Leaguer counters with a Stunner for a close near fall. DDP attempts a Clothesline but Kanyon ducks, catching him on the butt of the jaw with a Superkick. Page stays on his feet mind you, staggering before being promptly dropped with the Kanyon Cutter!

This isn’t enough for the younger of the two men to capture the victory and Page comes back once again, a Discus Clothesline flooring Kanyon. For a second time, DDP hooks for the Diamond Cutter but he’s shoved away towards senior official Rudy Charles. Page puts on the brakes to stop a collision but he turns around straight into the Flatliner and his former protege captures the victory.

A statement win for Kanyon, staying true to what he said last week about being his own man and having eclipsed the mentor who paved his way. He’s in no mood for sentiments, Rudy Charles raises his hand and he leaves with a determination in his stride. Job done.

Diamond Dallas Page gets back to a vertical base and takes the microphone from Jeremy Borash. Three months ago, he spoke about retirement on a radio show. He came into TNA Wrestling to find out if he could still go and he was happy to test himself against Ron Killings and Kanyon, two of the best wrestlers in the business. But he doesn’t want to be a hanger-on, wrestling when he’s long past his prime, embarrassing himself every time he steps in the ring. He doesn’t want people to talk about him in the past tense, to watch him wrestle and talk about the DDP of old, about how he used to have it.

Tonight might have been his final wrestling match. But he’s proud because he gave his old friend a good test in here and who knows, on a different day he might have delivered the Diamond Cutter and gotten the 1-2-3. He wants the fans to join him one last time and say it with him...

he asked DDP to put over Kanyon and Page had no issues with losing.

  19. I have 2 questions. Why 2 PPVs a month? And how do you have over 700.000 PPV buyrates and only 570.000 viewers?

Inmates Rule is a Lesser PPV in a 1,000 seat venue with Premium ticket pricing. This is my first save on TEW 2020, I'm just experimenting and playing around to see how these things go. The buy rate could be terrible, we'll see. :D

With regards the viewers, it doesn't make much sense. But I signed on for PPV's with DirectTV who are Huge and offered me 15% of the revenue. The smaller providers did offer me more of the share but none of them were willing to give me a better time slot. I figured that even if I got 25% of the revenue on a Big provider, I would get fewer buys than on a Huge provider so it wouldn't make money sense to sign a deal with them anyway.

Meanwhile, my TV is on ESPN who are Medium-sized but I am locked into that deal for another 6 months or so. I signed a 1 year deal to begin with and I think that was a mistake. I'll certainly move to a bigger network when that deal comes up.

  20. Right, but it's odd that Billy has kicked out of the Coffin Drop at 1 and didn't take a fall. You'd think they'd be more inclined to protect his sons since they potentially have a future. I just don't see the point in trying to protect Billy. It's not like he's on par star level wise with Sting, Bryan, Punk, and other big names. I'm a Billy fan, but it just seems like he's being protected unnecessarily.

I think if I was in Colten's position, I would insist on taking the fall.

My team is losing? We're in Atlanta? Sting is getting the pin? Please hit me with the Scorpion Death Drop and pin me so I can privately mark the F out, lol.
