  1. There's no denying from me that he was far from good during that initial World title run. The point I was hoping to get across was that who else was on that level and could've taken that spot without the view of hindsight? Austin is gone, Rock is gone, Foley is gone. Taker in 2001 was awful - granted his heel turn at the turn of the year was great and he was rebuilding himself. They clearly had little faith in Jericho. Angle, Undertaker, Triple H - who else was at that level? Obviously Brock came along and got pushed to the moon. RVD and Booker with a bit more behind them could've got there - but they missed the best chance with both of them in 2001. I don't know, maybe I'm misremembering the time.
  2. I still don't know whether I buy the whole "Triple H only got what he got because he married Stephanie" argument. He was already WWF Champion (in his 3rd reign) and the top heel before they got together. He was one of the top stars of the Attitude Era (Not on the level of Austin/Rock/Undertaker but I'd say he was definitely #4). If Triple H didn't marry Stephanie; who steps up as the company's top heel in 2002/3? Who carries the Raw brand (and therefore the WWE) until Cena comes along? Yes he probably wouldn't be running NXT right now; or being all over TV as an authority figure. But I'm pretty certain he would still have had a HoF career. 13-time World Champion? maybe not - but probably not far off. If Triple H married Stephanie whilst he was at, say for example, the level of Test and then went on to become 13-time World Champion, booker of NXT, etc. then yeah - without a doubt, all due to who he married. But when he was already a top star pegged for a long term run at the top - then I think you're selling him short.

  4. So the Network is free for February then; didn't see that coming...... Source: they emailed me.
  5. I'll preface this by saying that I stopped watching Raw every week about a year ago (and Smackdown probably somewhere in 2013) because it's just not that good any more. Sure the actual matches are probably better than ever, but as a show Raw is far too long and Smackdown had become Raw rematches or matches that would be redone the following Monday. Nothing interests me - I'll catch the highlights or maybe watch This Week in WWE; but thats it. I have however, continued watching PPVs and for the large part they've been perfectly fine viewing - some really good promising bits; some naff - but largely I've been entertained. so onto the Rumble; I really like this show up until about halfway through the main event. From the all tag team undercard; I enjoyed the pre-show Tag match; I enjoyed the Ascension/Outlaws; heck I enjoyed the Divas; and the Tag titles was good because the Usos are brilliant and the Miz/Mizdow schtick hasnt completely run its course yet. The three-way was perfect; I couldnt have imagined anything better. The young upstart heel; the ageing superhero babyface and the unstoppable tweener monster who can take everything and still kick your ass. Brock Lesnar is fantastic. I don't care if he only work 5 shows a year - keep the belt on him; his title matches are awesome. Cena and Rollins deserve equal credit for this match as they played their roles perfectly. I can't say enough good things about the match. And then the Rumble; it started out great - Bubba returning was a genuine surprise and it was fun to see. Wyatt having his showcase run was great - just when I thought people were souring on him; he does this and it's great; for me he's right back where he was pre-Mania last year. The match took a turn for the worse when Bryan went out; over nothing. Wyatt just shoulder blocked him and that was it. Completely flat. I don't care that he didnt win it. But; this was just. Well crap. Have Rusev brutalise him and take him out and lead to a Mania match; I assume we'll build to a Bray vs Bryan Mania match now (I'll be pissed if we dont) and it'll be great but this moment could've been much better. Have Bryan get taken out in the Kane/Show takeover. Something. Anything would've been better than a flat, nothing elimination that nearly went unnoticed. He's the unbeaten Champion whos just come back from 9 months on the shelf and we dont even get a moment for his elimination. Terrible. The rest of the booking of the match just had nothing for me. The crowd crapped on everything. Which isn't surprising. It isn't fair either; but give them a reason not to crap of everything. Don't just do something you know will piss everyone off; but do it early and expect people to forget before the big ending you want. Wyatt's run fizzled out and he got eliminated like he was Titus O'Neil or someone. Another nothing elimination. Ziggler. Well what happened there? Huge push at Survivor Series and his Rumble was what exactly? Bad News? Ambrose? All really just were bodies in there just to eliminate. I don't hate the Kane/Show domination to clear people out - but don't have them eliminate everyone the fans are going to care about. Why shit on Ziggler and Wyatt like that? Have them clear the midcard guys like Big E/Swagger/Titus and the like - then have Ziggler or Reigns take them out. The buzz around Reigns has fizzled since his injury; so why shoehorn him in here. If you don't want to push Bryan or Ziggler or someone the fans are clearly behind and will clearly get behind against Lesnar - give the win to Rusev or something. Have the evil Russian win the damn thing. You dont have to have Rusev vs Lesnar if you dont want to - it gives you the chance to mess around with the main event and actaully get into a position where you have a match you want and the fans want. The crowds at TV seem more 'under control' than on PPV so use that to your advantage. Now you've got this big babyface on the rampage that not even The Rock can get pops for. That moment has been crapped on forever now. Reigns will struggle to get back from it. So for me, the best case scenario here is that Lesnar isnt leaving after Mania and you keep the strap on him. I didnt mean to rant for this long; as I really liked 2 hr 15 mins of this show; and I've come across sounding like I hated it.
  6. Joey Styles commentating on stop-motion action figure matches on YouTube has been the best commentary I've heard in a while. On a similar note JR and Striker have got potential of they actually spend time working together. They came across well on WK9 and I think with a bit more time together and with the product they could be really really good.
  7. It's been a while since I've caught a PPV live around these parts; can't wait for Havoc. Fan Scoresheet (Comments not necessary, but always appreciated!) Hollywood Hogan w/The Queen vs. Lex Luger vs Brian Pillman Comments: It's too obvious for me that Pillman would win a Ladder match against these guys; so clearly Hogan will retain. Ric Flair w/Bobby Heenan vs. Antonio Inoki w/Magnum TA Comments: Has to be doesn't it? I doubt Inoki will be around in the long term. Randy Savage & Roddy Piper w/Nick Bockwinkel vs. Steve Austin & Cactus Jack Comments: Given I have Hogan retaining; it makes sense to get these guys a win and situate them as legit challengers. Arn Anderson w/Bobby Heenan vs. Dustin Rhodes w/Magnum TA Comments: Dustin moves on to face Flair at Starrcade? Chris Jericho w/Rick Rude vs. Sting Comments: Sting doesn't turn up or something involving the KOW prevents him from turning up - Jericho steals a 'victory' and brags about it. The Wonderful Destruction Crew w/Jimmy Hart vs. The Steiner Brothers Comments: I'm stealing TFC's idea - holla if you hear me! The New World Order vs. The Road Warriors Comments: nWo need the win, yo! Eddy Guerrero w/Bobby Heenan vs. Bobby Eaton w/Stan Lane Comments: He'll Lie, Cheat and Steal his way to the win. Lance Storm w/Larry Zbyszko vs. Dean Malenko Comments: Iceman gets his revenge. Tiebreaker Questions: 1. Will Sting get involved during, after, or not at all for the World Heavyweight title match? after - I see him dropping down from the rafters or something Sting-like. 2. Will anyone turn? Big Poppa Pump 3. Who will lose the fall in the Steiners vs. WDC match? Dog-Faced Gremlin 4. What match will start the show? TV Title 5. What will be the best match of the show? Spin the wheel, make the deal.
  8. It's not like I can watch the current product any less than I already do, else I would! I already don't watch Raw or Smackdown or any other weekly tv - I watch the ppv's but I certainly don't pay the £14.95 for each show. Clearly my £6.25 a month isn't good enough for the WWE.
  9. In their defence, it was 21 minutes not 15.. An absolute joke.
  10. Yes it certainly does - thanks for the rapid response. I think I'll take the plunge and give CLLM a go - want to try my hand at traditional lucha. The Atlantis vs Ultimo Guerrero match at 81. Anniversario has given me a lucha kick.
  11. I've never played a Thunderverse game before but always been intrigued by it. I've also never played a long term lucha game before but always been intrigued. That said; is it possible for someone more in the know to give a brief description of what Mexico looks like in the T-verse and how deep it is (I imagine the answer to that second part is very deep as is the general vibe I get from the whole mod).
  12. I'm half-glad you've gone away for a few days as it's allowed me to catch up properly.. and Slamboree was another great show (there's been a lot around this forum in recent weeks). the Legends bits throughout the night were well written and didnt feel like they took anything away from the rest of the show. I can't wait to see what you'll give us with Nitro.. and this Jericho kid looks great; he's been booked perfectly so far.. it's great to see the KoW on the losing side but does this mean descension among the ranks? will this lead to Hogan finally lose the strap? Will it be Luger? how long will Savage and Piper continue to play number 2 to Hogan? I can't wait for the coming weeks and months; bring on Nitro and Fall Brawl!

Those fans don’t care what you did last week, what you did last year – they only care about what you give to them right here and right now. I’m glad our fans are like that; because if you’re standing still – you may as well be moving backwards – and if you’re moving backwards you may as well pack up and get the hell out of this business. For a company the size of ECW; we need something different to put us out there on our own – something different to make people stop and go; ‘Hey – did you see ECW last night? You can’t miss this shit.’ The things that we did, in say 1997, that made us different from everybody else are the same things that make us look like a cheap rip off right now. Everything you loved about ECW in 1997 you can watch each and every week in the WWF today but with more money thrown at it; so why would you bother watching ECW anymore? I’ll tell you why – because ECW is forever changing, forever evolving, forever being different and forever being better than the competition. Nobody can stop me in the street and tell me that ECW is boring, that ECW is stale – because we can’t afford to be ****ing boring, to be stale. If ECW stops evolving, we die – simple. I’m determined to go against all the odds – and tell all the doubters to go to hell; because we are Extreme and we will be Renegades forever.”</span></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><div style="text-align:right;"><p></p><div style="text-align:right;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><em>Paul Heyman, 2001</em></span></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div>

  15. <p>I've not watched any TNA in a while but did sit and watch that match.. Now I don't normally have a lot to moan about with wrestling but damn that was terrible..</p><p> </p><p> First off, the announcing was poor.. Sounded like Tenay and Taz just didn't give a damn - didn't make it seem like this was important at all.. No enthusiasm for much of the match..</p><p> </p><p> My understanding of the 'storyline' is that AJ is leaving and Dixie is trying everything she can do to stop him taking the belt.. But this was daft.. it made Magnus look like a joke and made AJ look great.. And AJ is leaving.. (Massive props to AJ for doing that on his way out - could've easily just walked away into the sunset)..</p><p> </p><p> What's the point in stacking the deck so heavily against a guy who's leaving.. Just have Magnus pin him clean in 5 minutes and you accomplish more.. You lr Champion looks strong and the guy who is leaving doesn't..</p><p> </p><p> This type of 'match' only works if AJ is gonna come back and eventually overcome all the odds.. Doesn't work if AJ is gone and never to be see. Again and your left with a champion who needed 8 guys to help him win..</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Makes no sense whatsoever..</p>

  19. <p>I was gonna start this by apologizing for coming in late on this but brash has only just posted as well (dont feel so bad for watching this late)</p><p> </p><p> such a great main event - I had no idea what the judges were going to give the fight; for sure I thoght it would be a split decision.. I had it Gus/Jon/Gus/Jon/Jon I think.. the barrage at the end of 4 swung me it give it to Jones but honestly I couldnt call it..</p><p> </p><p> such a fantastic main event.. hopefully Gus can pick up a couple of impressive wins and we can do this again next year..</p>
  20. If The fighter gets himself in that position where he can't see he takes the risk of his opponent playing the game.. It's a risk/reward situation just like any other position.. It's a wild comparison (that ill fully admit I'm stretching here to prove my point) but its the same risk/reward as swinging for the fences; reward is a big knockout, risk is you're opponent catches you wide open with your guard down.. The risk in the knee situation is that your opponent takes advantage of a stupid rule and you get a point taken.. I fully accept its a ridiculous rule; but its a rule and so fighters are gonna exploit it.. If the position was reversed MM would no doubt play the game as well.. With the rule in place it's just part of the sport.. My point is Big John has been around long enough to know that he shouldn't really be influencing the fight like that.. Both fighters know the rule.. Whether he agrees with it or not shouldn't matter... Anyway it's a moot point really; right man won in the end and that's all that really matters..
  21. I didnt mind a point not being deducted; I was expecting one to be though as he'd just kicked Dodson in the nads (unintentionally obviously) - but two illegal blows in the same round (iirc - if not still in the same fight) should probably be worth a point.. What I didnt like was the fact that Big John was basically acting as Might Mouse' eyes in the final round.. he wouldnt have done anywhere near enough damage and kept the position up against the fence had Big John not been telling him when Dodson's hand was down or up.. MM should be paying enough attention to where he's striking without the referee telling him to stop and go every time Dodson touched the mat.. if Big John had kept quiet, one of two things wouldve happened.. a second illegal knee and a certain point off (resulting in a majority draw) or MM losing the position faster than he did.. (and he probably wouldve still won the round but Dodson wouldnt have took as much damage as he did) at the end of the day it doesnt really matter; the right man won when you view the fight on the whole.. But if I was Dodson I'd be a little pissed as he could quite easily earned a majority draw and not suffered anywhere near as much damage..
  22. I dont chime in very often; and its even less frequent that I'm up to date.. but the six man tag at TLC is absolutely amazing.. its taken me nearly a week to watch the ppv but this match has been well worth the wait.. this is close to being better than TLC 1 and 2.. its really that good.. thank god CM Punk got injured (and I never thought Id say that).. Im struggling to think of a reason this shouldnt have gone on last; unless of course Cena vs Ziggler (Im guessing that went on last; cant see it being Show vs Sheamus Part 43) is as awesome as it has the potential to be.. I've managed to avoid spoilers all week and I'm so glad..

  24. not sure if anyone else in the UK has been to a show over the weekend.. but I was in Nottingham on Sunday and it was a pretty good event.. first time I've been in about 6/7 years.. when the main complaint is the ridiculously overpriced programme's it's not a bad sign.. £15 for basically a glossy photo album.. only 1 page with more than 5 words of writing on it.. terrible.. anyway the show was good.. one big surprise result.. but (as expected) most of it was your predictable house show.. Santino/Brodus def. Primo/Epico McGillicutty def. Tensai (WHAT?!) AJ def. Eve / Layla for the Divas Title but Vickie restarted the match so Eve retained Cena def. Dolph --- Cesaro def. Ryder to retain the US Title Hell No def. Rhodes Scholars to retain the Tag Titles Ryback def. Punk via DQ after Rhodes Scholars interefered A good night really; Daniel Bryan got the biggest pop. His and Kane's skit at the end of their match got the biggest reaction of the night.. comedy gold.. Punk, Ryback, Cena and Dolph all got huge reactions.. a good evening of entertainment for £30 - anyone else have any similar experiences this weekend?
  25. we need to find what Doug Dillinger is up to these days.. could do with him escorting Skip Goldberg to the ring before his matches..
