<p>I think simulator fans have a tendency to want to powergame and achieve perfection. Problem is, while TEW is a sim, it's also a <em>creative</em> game. Some people have a problem marrying the two aspects of the game. </p><p> </p><p>

Matches have a cap if they're not 15 minutes? That's cool! Perfect even. When you're booking a show, you're <em>building</em> to the main event. Don't put a match on par with the main event on second, because creatively it just overshadows your main event and from a powergamer perspective you've just wasted it because the second match accounts for almost nothing.</p>

They aren't going to be hiring that don't fit with their products, but if they're putting on shows getting 60 rated matches from jump street at 20 pop then there's a really good they're hiring people they can't afford. Hell, in 2016 I found myself funneling money to small promotions through the editor because they were really prone to going under due to the AI insistence of hiring really talented workers out of its price range.</p>

It always is. Not sure how hard starting out will be this year because we can't go long term yet, but it's definitely viable, especially with the broadcaster debuting a couple of months in that will carry small companies and help you raise pop outside your area early.

Wait so if I'm following, to solve the "Nothing interesting seems to have happened in this angle" in this game, the angle has to be rated on different skills from the workers?

Not different skills, just can't be a "passive" skill for everyone and last more than 5 minutes. Passive skills are any that aren't entertainment, microphone, acting, selling, or fighting.

The gist is if everyone is rated on the other skills, then nothings really happening. Like if you have an angle where two guys are rated on overness and have it go for five minutes, then the game just assumes that they're standing there being over for five minutes. Same for menace. If you have two big dudes rated on menace it sounds like they literally just stand there growling and flexing for a block of time. But if they fight then they're doing something interesting.

Again, though, the uninteresting bit only occurs at 5 or more minutes. You can have a 4 minute angle with both guys rated on overness and be safe, but you also won't receive the same benefits on worker skills and momentum that way.

Will workers still request to get called up from development when they feel their time is up? With the "X number of skills left to improve" no longer on the development screen, I just want to make sure I won't leave them in there so long their morale deteriorates.

The higher money demand during negotiations is cool. You'll notice that if you lower Edge's contract to a year instead of 3 he'll probably accept the 3100. It prevents guys from getting locked into decade long contracts for 3k a month, which is something I definitely abused in the past. Very cool that they've been programmed to see through that skeezy tactic now.

MAW will only take a few more development guys at the start of the game. Since I'm big on development and hiring as many projects as possible, this is a bit of a problem for me. Is starting a development company viable at the start or should I hold off for a few months?

Is there a benefit to sending workers to a work in a non-child company like the TCW/MAW relationship besides getting them match time? Like, will they improve at a quicker rate than normal but still slower than sending them to development?

I've never played Canada because NOTBPW was always too performance based, and CGC was always too entertainment based for me, but CWA hits that perfect midpoint that I'm in love with. Plus, they've got an absolute dream roster. They easily replace TCW as my ready-to-dominate promotion. TCW will be fun to rebuild, but CWA really looks like you can jump right in and have a blast booking.

I mainly use excel to book tournaments. It's really useful for keeping round robin tournaments organized and on track, and I can easily see what matches I've booked and what the results were. Traditional tournaments I just pen and paper or, if they're small enough that I only need to really see the first round competitors, notepad.

With the game coming out soon, I figured it would be a good time to talk about storylines that we always go back to. Maybe give someone a good booking idea!

For me, one of my favorites to book is the midcard champ being forced to vacate his belt to challenge for the main event belt. It's just a really versatile storyline to book. My favorite variation is to have a cocky heel champ vacate his belt, lose the world title match, and lose to the new midcard champ when he retreats back down the card.

Something I've been wondering that may or not have been addressed is whether or not there's been more future debuting wrestlers added to the database. Previously, the last (I think) pre-made wrestler to debut was Tommy Cornell Jr. in 2025. That was fine in 2016 because it was around 10 years out, but now that's only 5 years into the game. Even if I run with a larger company that has two brands, I can myself hitting that point pretty quickly.

Now, I like the variety that comes with randomly generated wrestlers, but I also like to work with pre-made guys that are debuting in the future, especially seeing ones that are second or third generation wrestlers. Now we get a bunch of next generation masked wrestlers, but I don't think I ever remember seeing sons and daughters debuting randomly.

I grew up as a massive Stone Cold fan because I was from the area he was, so he was massive with us as kids. But I stopped watching wrestling in late 07 when I was a senior in high school, and didn't pick back up until around 2011 when Punk beat Cena. The pipebomb got me back into wrestling, and the electricity of that match made me remember why I loved it. I just didn't remember seeing that sort of enthusiasm since I was a kid in the attitude era.</p>

Island Boy Apollo vs Roger Cage

Apollo was one of the victims of Sayeed Ali, taking a vicious beatdown after his defeat of George Wolfe. Cage was the last man seen with Ali, so there’s got to be something there. Apollo would be crazy to not connect the dots there!

Kirk Jameson vs Sayeed Ali

Jameson also felt the wrath of Sayeed Ali, though he went looking for a fight with the madman. Which of these two elite competitors with an axe to grind will come out on top?

Frankie Perez vs Ernest Youngman

Perez has at times looked like a terminator. The only chink in his armor thus far has been caused by a sneak attack on the part of Sayeed Ali. Fortunately for Youngman, he’s also looked like a terminator, and has been taking his opponents with a brutal piledriver. He’ll look to drill Perez with it in his toughest test yet!

Masked Cougar vs Nelson Callum

Callum has gone on quite the run. He cheated to defeat Davis Wayne, but he toppled the returning legend Mario Heroic in an impressive showing. Cougar has done well, too, defeating tough opponents in Frankie Dee and Jesus Chavez. Which of these two will come out on top?

Announcers: Marvin Earnest –Ernest Forthdyke-Hume

Bradford Peverell started the show off as he paced around the locker room. His left arm was in a sling, still damaged from the submission Al Coleman locked it months earlier. Finally, Peverell stopped pacing and faced the camera.

BP: Eleven years. That’s how long it took me to get here. Eleven years of grinding away, just so some weasel could try and take everything away from me. My arm isn’t 100%. Hell, I don’t know if 50%. Could be 10% for all I know. Fact of the matter is that doesn’t mean a thing. I’m a wrestler. I fight. Healthy or not, it doesn’t matter. I do what I have to. Al Coleman thought he was gonna take me out and have an easy trip to the next round. Well I got news for him.

Peverell ripped the sling off, and pointed at the camera with his bad arm.

BP: You poked the bear, Al. Pulled the lion’s tail. You might have hurt me, but you didn’t put me down. Tonight I’m gonna touch you up. You’ve got no where to run, no where to hide, and my left hook will find that glass jaw of yours.

Peverell kissed his fist, and then shoved the camera away.

Tigre Salvaje vs Harry Allen

Allen is a multi-time cruiserweight champ, but he never faced a competitor wit the sort of speed that Tigre displayed here. The luchador ran circles around Allen, who found it to be an unfamiliar position. Allen was able to ground Tigre, though, employing a variety of holds to wear away at the luchador.

Tigre would not be restrained, however, and he fought back with a lot of heart. He made a fatal mistake when he hoisted Allen up onto the top rope, though. Tigre climbed up after him and attempted a top rope hurricanrana, but the veteran Allen wisely held onto the ropes, and Tigre plummeted to the mat in a wild backflip. With Tigre stunned, Allen leapt from the top and nailed A Fistful of Dynamite to score the 1-2-3.

Allen wins, 48.

Backstage, Harry Allen headed to the Young Gun locker room when Frantic Ali cut him off.

FA: Slow down there, cowboy!

HA: The hell do you want?

Allen was worn out, and clearly hoping to cool down. Ali held his hands up, palms out, to him.

FA: I just wanted say congratulations, cowboy. You looked good out there. It’s just a shame, you know?

HA: A shame?

FA: Well, you know. That I’m gonna end your buddy’s tournament early tonight.

HA: Oh is that so?

Ali grinned.

FA: You best believe it, cowpoke.

HA: I think Ford might have something to say about that. He’ll see you in the ring.

Allen began to walk off, but turned around before he did.

HA: Well hell, I forgot.

FA: Forgot what?

HA: To tell you to protect your neck, ‘cause Ford’s gonna kick it ten rows deep.

Findlay vs Billy Russell

The MMA legend Billy Russell did exactly what everyone expected him to do against the brutish Findlay. Findlay came in much taller and heavier than Russell, and Russell did everything in his power to negate that size advantage with an array of submission attacks that targeted the lower of Findlay. Every time Findlay got rolling, Russell went low and chopped him down. Eventually, Findlay fought back and nailed an Atomic Spinebuster, but by the time he made the cover, Russell was able to kick out. The two went right back at it, and it was Findlay that came out on top when he fought out of cloverleaf and hit Russell with a Georgia Stampede for the 1-2-3. Findlay limped to the back, but he took the time to turn around and nod to a recovering Russell before he disappeared backstage.

Ford Gumble vs Frantic Ali

The story of the match was Gumble looking for the Quick Draw Kick at every opportunity. Ali,for his part, did everything in his power to avoid it. As much as Ford was throwing the kick, though, it was bound to land at some point, and Ford hit Ali with a thunderous one at around the ten minute mark. Unfortunately, Ali rolled under the bottom rope and to the floor before Ford could secure the pin, and the match continued.

Ford followed him to the floor and stalked Ali. Ali pulled himself up using the apron for an assist, and when he finally got to his feet Ford threw another Quick Draw Kick. Ali was expecting it, though, and ducked, leaving the ring post as the only target for Ford to hit. Ford collapsed, clutching his leg, and Ali rolled him into the ring, where he hit a death valley driver for the win.

Ali wins, 55.

The Boys from the Yukon were backstage to greet Ford as he limped through the curtain. Mort chuckled.

HMM: Little man don’t look so good.

WW: I don’t know, he looks about like I expect: a loser.

Mort laughed. Ford growled and stuck a finger in his chest.

FG: I already kicked his ass—

Ford jutted the finger toward Whitaker.

FG: --now I wanna kick yours.

HMM: You want it, little man, you got it.

Ford growled one last time, then power walked away, gritting through the pain in his leg.

Greg Gauge vs Connor Threepwood for the MAW Championship

Normally it would take more than one win in the promotion to earn a shot at the MAW Championship, but Gauge’s decision to put the belt on the line in every match provided Threepwood with a golden opportunity, and he certainly took advantage of it. Threepwood, a disciple of the independent legend Acid, struck early and he struck often, making sure the champ was never in a comfortable position, even when he was in control.

Threepwood threatened to end the match with a stretch plum submission at one point, but Gauge was able to grit it out and get to the ropes and force a break. That’s when Threepwood lost control. He thought he had won, and protested to the ref. This allowed Gauge some recovery time, and when Threepwood turned back to Greg the champ leveled him with a brainbuster and transitioned straight into a Proton Lock. Threepwood tried to hold on, but eventually it proved too much and he tapped, giving the champ the win.

Gauge retains, 62.

As Gauge walked up the ramp, holding his belt, Bulldozer Brandon Smith emerged from the crowd and leapt the barrier. Dozer slid into the ring, leveled Threepwood with a lariat, and picked him back up before drilling him with a backdrop driver.

Gauge rushed to the ring looked on, confused, as Dozer left without a ring. Smith hopped the barrier once more, and waded through the crowd as medical crew hurried to the ring to assist Threepwood.

Donnie J strolled backstage, bopping his head to the music blasting through his earbuds, when he passed Jake Idol and Jackpot Jordan getting salads. Shocked, Donnie removed his earbuds.

DJ: Woah! What are you two “bros” doing here!?

Idol put a hand on Jordan’s chest, keeping him from lunging at Donnie.

JI: Chill bro, it’s not worth it.

JJ: Just let me at ‘em, bro!

Donnie chuckled.

DJ: I thought they only let winners in here? The way you two were talking in the last round, you made it sound like you were the uncrowned champs.

JJ: Oh, we’re still the uncrowned champs, my guy.

JI: It’s just going to take a little longer than expected, bro.

Donnie laughed.

DJ: Well, keep it up you two. And while you’re here, make a sandwich for me? Turkey on rye. It’s kind of my victory ritual.

Donnie winced.

DJ: Oh! Sorry! You two don’t know what a victory ritual is.

Donnie slapped Jordan’s shoulder and walked past them.

DJ: I’ll be more considerate in the future, but I got a match now. See you “bros” later.

Fox Mask vs Acid II

Acid clearly did a little bit of insider trading before this one started, as his mentor, the original Acid, has tangled with Fox Mask more times than they can probably count. The result was Acid being fully prepared for every bit of offense Fox Mask threw his way. Preparation isn’t everything, however, as Fox Mask did a bit of improv and played possum when Acid climbed to the top for his Acid Rain Bomb. As soon as Acid was set, Fox sprang to his feet, scampered up to the top, and drilled Acid to the mat with a top rope DDT sans middle finger to score the victory.

Fox Mask wins, 48.

Donnie J vs Rudy Velasquez

Velasquez was particularly angry and violent in this match, but Donnie J kept in the fight and made sure that he got his shots in as well. The finish came when The Rich and Famous appeared on the rampway, distracting Donnie. Donnie jawed at them for a moment, and when he turned back to his opponent Velasquez launched a field goal style kick at Donnie’s nether regions. Luckily, Donnie jumped back just in time, and countered by charging Velasquez with a twisting roll up to score the pin!

Donnie J wins, 59.

Jesus Chavez and Hector Galindo immediately burst out of the crowd and joined Velasquez in beating down Donnie. Apparently Rudy was unhappy with the match results. The absolutely battered Donnie, and The Rich and Famous pointed and laughed at the unfortunate incident from the safety of the ramp.

Before his match, Grandmaster Phunk was hyping himself up when Frantic Ali strolled up.

GP: Good Brother Ali! What ya say, my man?

Ali looked Phunk up and down and sneered.

FA: I ain’t got a damn thing to say to a clown like you.

Phunk laughed.

GP: You better watch it with that energy before you get popped. I saw you playing with fire in that cowboy earlier.

FA: I ain’t scared of no cowboy, and I sure as hell ain’t scared of a joke like you. You call me a good brother, but the truth is I’m a bad man. Think about when you talk about my energy.

Any semblance of a smile left Phunk’s face.

GP: Boy you keep talking to me without respect and I’ll get phunky all over your damn face.

The two stared at each for a moment, tense, before Ali backed up and held up his hands.

FA: Relax. I didn’t come here for you. My work for the night’s already done. Now, I’d wish you good luck, but... I don’t really want to.

GP: You don’t need luck when you’re as phunky as me. Now, I would say I’ll see you soon, but I have a feeling your tournament’s going to be over before I get the chance.

Phunk turned and walked through the curtain, leaving Ali to stew alone.

FA: We’ll see. We’ll see.

Grandmaster Phunk vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith

Smith tore into Phunk as soon as the bell rang, but Phunk was ready. People often look past him because of his fun-loving ways, but Phunk proved here that he was a fighter ready to hang with the best of them. For every shot Smith landed, Phunk responded in kind, and had Smith on the ropes multiple times. The master of phunk was ready to put Smith away at one point as he stalked his opponent, aiming for a Phunkensteiner. Smith was ready, though, and countered the rana with a thunderous powerbomb. He didn’t go for the pin, though, instead opting to throw the dazed Phunk into the turnbuckles, where he nailed him with a series of devastating lariats. Dazed, Phunk stumbled forward and into the arms of Smith, who nailed him with a backdrop driver for the win.

Smith wins, 59.

Smith wasn’t done. He hefted Phunk to his feet, but before he could act Greg Gauge’s music hit and the champ strode out onto the stage.

GG: This ends here, Smith.

Smith let Phunk drop to the ground.

GG: I don’t have the time or the patience for another Sayeed Ali to be running around. You got my attention, you won. But I got news for you. This belt isn’t yours. Findlay took it off your waist six years ago on the same night he took your mask. The belt. Is. Mine. You have zero claim. You want it? You take it the right way. Win the tournament. Excluding that, you can sit your ass on the sidelines, just like you did in college.

A gasp rippled through the crowd. Smith clearly wasn’t a fan of that last line.

GG: I’m warning you here and now. Next time you decide to jump someone or get in some extracurriculars, I will be there to put you down.

Smith snatched a mic from ringside. He looked furious, but after a moment he let a sneer cross his face.

BS: You got it.

He looked down at the prone form of Phunk.

BS: …Champ.

vs
Bradford Peverell vs Al Coleman

Peverell came into the main event clearly compromised, but that didn’t stop from doing everything in his power to lay a beating on Coleman. Coleman, for his part, attacked the left arm of Peverell with the typical you’d expect of him. He never let the brawler build up the steam he needed to put a dent in Coleman’s armor.

Coleman kept Peverell grounded, but that success began to affect his ego, and the technician grew cocky, playing with his opponent. He began letting Peverell pepper him with a right jab, confident that it couldn’t damage him. But when Coleman jutted his chin out and pointed to it, daring Peverell to strike, Bradford let loose with his left hand, landing a Nuclear Left flush on Al’s jaw.

Coleman dropped, but Bradford did too, clutching his arm. The strike took a lot out of him, and he crawled to make the cover. 1..2…Coleman kicked out! Peverell took long! Before Peverell could capitalize with more offense, though, Coleman snatched his arm, pulled guard, and locked in a kimura! Bradford held on momentarily, but he was forced to tap before his arm snapped!

Coleman wins, 63.

My biggest issue with them ignoring the ten count and staying in the ring is that there's spots where a guy is getting double teamed and the ref will block the other guys partner from getting in the ring and stopping it, making it look like they're blatantly biased. Kind of like when the ref let Cody whip MJF with the belt without calling for the DQ.

I actually ran a 20 year save with no default workers or promotions in the DB to simulate a total beginning of the wrestling world and noticed a gimmick trend there. There was a decent variety after a while, but for the longest time almost everyone worthwhile tended to be a legitimate, comedy, weasel, or brute wrestler. I would get some cool and cocky guys every now and then but those were the type that dominated the scene for a looooooong time.
