No, the tournament should be for all the marbles. The winner of the RCI should get a cup AND ten pounds of leather and gold. So I talked to management, and every match that the champion is in is gonna be for the belt. No matter what, the winner of this tournament is the new champion. It might not be me, but I’m gonna be bold right now and make a prediction. Come November, I, Greg Gauge, will have outlasted 63 other men, and the world will know what I’ve always known: I am the greatest wrestler in the world, and I’ll have the hardware to prove it.</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></blockquote><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="47230" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><img alt="CX1MzEV.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/CX1MzEV.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>vs</strong></div></div></div></div></div></div><img alt="xd4tFnh.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xd4tFnh.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong> Ace Youngblood vs Billy Russell</strong></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Ace Youngblood, a multiple time tag champ, makes his return here, hoping to score a return victory like his partner Max Mayhem did just months earlier. Velasquez soon took over, but Ant-Man kept himself in the fight the entire time. When Jesus Chavez made his way to the ring and distracted the ref, however, Ant-Man was unable to protect himself from what came next. 2. BLOCK C

MAW Americana is the first battleground for Block C. Reminder, the winner of this block will battle the victor of Block D in the semifinals.

    5JyPdsk.jpgSm5INDE.jpg

    Findlay vs The Architect

Former two-time RCI winner and multi-time MAW champion returns here to do battle with one of the most promising young MAW dojo grads. Will Findlay’s legend grow, or will The Architect derail him?

    CX1MzEV.jpgxd4tFnh.jpg

    Ace Youngblood vs Billy Russell

Russell might be older than most tourney participants, but he’s just as dangerous as any of them. He draws Ace Youngblood, who returns to MAW, where he captured four different tag team championships.

    Jly7B1x.jpgHSRKCny.jpg

    Greg Gauge vs Marv Statler

MAW Champion Greg Gauge is back in action for the first time since December, and he draws Marv Statler as his first round opponent. Statler’s tag team partner Dean Waldorf has already advanced to the second round, will Statler be joining him? Or will Gauge continue to author an impressive legacy?

    Connor Threepwood vs Crockett Tubbs

The Fighting Irish! We’ve seen tag teams in the tournament, but this is the first time any of them have had to go head to head. Both these wrestlers are known as hard-nosed, intense competitors, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

    mNLyrPt.jpg68EkL0M.jpg

    Donnie J vs Hector Galindo

Donnie J has had a storied career, and winning this tournament will be another feather in the cap of one of the greatest independent wrestlers in history. He runs up against Hector Galindo, though, which means that in addition to the man in the ring he has to worry about Rudy Velasquez and Jesus Chavez as well.

    plz0jJG.jpgvPzRv7q.jpg

    Ant-Man vs Rudy Velasquez

Speaking of Rudy, he draws one of the most promising youngsters on the scene today. Johnny “Ant-Man” Heizenger is perhaps the pound-for-pound strongest competitor in the tournament, and it’s theorized that he could press even Findlay if he so chose. Will his power be enough to overwhelm Rudy? Stay tuned!

    FMr6JkW.jpgu4hqv0D.jpg

    Grandmaster Phunk vs Dagger

Dagger comes to MAW from the great north, where he’s built a considerable reputation as a stiff striking buzzsaw. He meets the ultra-charismatic Grandmaster in round one, and will be looking to chip away at the veteran.

    U0Z8bv8.jpgAt4d186.jpg

    Jackpot Jordan vs Brandon Smith

The Bulldozer has arrived. He hasn’t been seen in an MAW ring since losing his American Patriot mask in a bout with Findlay in 2011, and he’s since undergone a…significant…personality. The once wholesome competitor has turned into one of the meanest, nastiest, most aggressive wrestlers in both America and Japan, and he’s looking to go on a revenge tour.

He’ll be meeting Jackpot Jordan in round one, and the cruiserweight tag specialist will be looking to avenge his tag partner’s loss to Frankie Perez in round one and advance further in the tournament.

    Predictions:

    Findlay vs The Architect

    Ace Youngblood vs Billy Russell

    Greg Gauge vs Marv Statler

    Connor Threepwood vs Crockett Tubbs

    Donnie J vs Hector Galindo

    Ant-Man vs Rudy Velasquez

    Grandmaster Phunk vs Dagger

    Jackpot Jordan vs Brandon Smith

ooc: Sorry for the delay! It's been a busy week or two for me, and I haven't had the chance to write for fun until today.

    Molokai Milk vs Fumihiro Ota

Milk started the match off with some…interesting…dance moves. Ota was unsure what to make of it and was caught off guard when the Hawaiian suddenly lashed out and clobbered the super ninja. Ota was on his heels, reeling from the big brawler’s attacks, before he lifted the bottom of mask and blasted Milk with a mouthful of green mist! The vile liquid in his face made Milk drop immediately, and the Hawaiian was unable to ever really mount his offense again. Ota mercifully ended this with a Ninja Strike on the nearly blind Molokai Milk.

    Ota wins, 54.

    Ray Snow vs Frankie Dee

Snow wasted no time in shooting in on Dee, who was reported to have tweaked his knee in training for this match. By working over the knee, Snow was able to, for the most part, negate Frankie’s #1 advantage: his stinging kicks. Dee still threw them whenever he got some offense in, but they had less sting, less pep, and he visibly winced every time one landed. The match end came when Frankie clotheslined Snow out of the ring. The separation allowed Frankie some time to breathe, and when Snow slid back in Frankie nailed him with a Shinanju, his patented spinning back kick. Unable to stand after the strike, Frankie collapsed on top of Ray and scored the 1, 2, 3.

    Dee wins, 37.

California Love Machine was out next, to the delight of the screaming girls in the crowd. The handsome Californian smiled and grabbed a mic.

CLM: You know, I’m a west coast boy, but I could get used to this east coast attention.

    More screams.

CLM: I’ve traveled up and down my home state…thrilling the ladies--

He said the last part with a hip thrust.

CLM: --and now I’ve come all the way to the Mid Atlantic to thrill all of you on the way to winning that shiny, shiny trophy.

    TdRl8vP.jpg

Syd Collier’s music blared, and the wrestler made his way to the ring with a mic in his hand and a scowl on his face.

SC: Shut up, shut up, shut up. You are making a mockery of this! As the uncrowned king of this company and guaranteed winner of this tournament, that’s something I won’t let stand.

CLM: Oh, is that so? See, I thought our match tonight would end just like my last night did—with an LAX Departure!

    CLM vs Syd Collier

CLM was hard to slow down, but Collier did an admirable job of it. The dojo grad used every bit of his wrestling knowledge to batter CLM, threatening to punch up CLM’s face, to the dismay of the girls in the crowd. However, he was just a touch too slow, as CLM still found a way to climb to the rope, leap off, and nail his beautiful shooting star legdrop: the LAX Departure. Three seconds later, and he was raising his hands in victory.

    CLM wins, 42

Masked Cougar was waiting in the ring for his opponent when Jesus Chavez showed his face, flanked by Rudy Velasquez and Hector Galindo. Rudy had a mic in hand.

RV: No respect. That’s what we get, everywhere we go. That’s okay, though. The Latino Kings? We like it. We like taking on your cartoon characters—

    He pointed to Cougar.

RV: --and tearing them up. Breaking their bones. Making them bleed. All these promotors underestimate The Latino Kings, and that’s cool. We make them regret it every time. Sam Keith, you better be listening. One of us is winning this thing, so you better hope no one you care about ever has to stand across from us.

    Masked Cougar vs Jesus Chavez

Chavez is the only King wrestling tonight, though Hector and Rudy stuck around at ringside. The big man overpowered Cougar early and often, though Cougar fought back with the ferocity of his namesake. Cougar struggled often, though, not used to competing against a man the size of Jesus. Still, he was able to get the job done after downing the big man and a huge Cougar Pounce from the top rope for the win. Hector and Rudy hit the ring immediately, but Cougar slipped away unscathed.

    Cougar wins, 59.

    OFTe1fV.jpg

Nelson Callum sauntered out to the ring, addressing the crowd as he walked down the ramp.

NC: Ladies and gentlemen, the hour has arrived, and the Nelson Callum show has begun. Now, I don’t really care if you want to watch it or not, the fact remains the same, I am here, and I am winning. Out of all the wrestlers you may see over the next year, not one has the pedigree, the acumen, the talent, the skill, the heart, the ability, the raw—

    IAPu8u7.jpg

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd cut the cocky youngster off, and after a minute or so Mario Heroic emerged on the stage! The legendary independent wrestler was in a full body suit complete with wings attached the arms, and he performed a meandering, choreographed routine set to the music that seemed to take ages. By the time he got in the ring, Callum was incensed.

    Mario Heroic vs Nelson Callum

Chances are Callum didn’t expect to need a second warmup by the time the match actually started. The story was of this one was an irate Callum going straight for Heroic in a rage, and Heroic capitalizing on every mistake he made. Heroic proved that his years spent in self-imposed exile hadn’t caused him to lose a step (just gain a few pounds). The crafty veteran played all the hits, but it just didn’t seem to be enough. Callum finally clasped on the Honey Trap, and Heroic was forced to tap out.

    Callum wins, 57.

Jake Idol and Jackpot stood backstage.

JJ: Tonight, the good bro Jake takes on the creeper himself.

JI: That’s right, my good bro. Frankie Perez, we’ve done this dance before, and we all know the truth: you got no rhythm, bro!

JJ: Two left feet, my guy!

JI: Meanwhile, I’ve got a left and a right foot, and I’m gonna use both of em to kick your ass!

JJ: Bro, the Rich and Famous are the only ones that have a shot at that gold cup.

JI: We’re the only two bros around that can pull it off.

JJ: Drinking from the chalice, bro.

    JI: Like kings, my guy.

Davis Wayne vs Mr. Lucha III

Lucha seems to have inherited all of his uncle’s talents, and taken a liking to the dirty tactics he was known to use periodically in his career. Davis, meanwhile, displayed the talent and well-roundedness a wrestler can develop if he dedicates himself to traveling all over the continent to hone his skills. From Canada to Puerto Rico, Davis has put together an impressive skillset. Still, Lucha’s cheating ways nearly saw him lose. But when Lucha grabbed a chair, hoping to use it behind the ref’s back, he ended up flying too close to the sun. The ref saw what he was doing and ripped the chair from Lucha’s hands. Shocked, Lucha was surprised again when Davis grabbed him and nailed a fisherman suplex for the win.

    Wayne wins, 48.

    HAIIo84.jpgtc0FFre.jpg

Prior to making his entrance, Teddy Powell approached his opponent, Ernest Youngman backstage.

TP: Hey kid, I just wanna wish you luck.

    Youngman stared daggers at Powell.

TP: But I also wanted to say that this ain’t PSW. You thrived there. Turned into someone real. But we didn’t have rules in PSW. Here, you gotta color between the lines. Break the rules and your night, hell, your whole tournament is over.

Youngman looked over the vet, and finally spoke.

EY: Rules or no rules, it doesn’t matter. The matches always end the same. I win, and the other guy gets stretchered away.

    Teddy Powell vs Ernest Youngman

Youngman absolutely battered Powell. He quickly cut his legs out from under him, taking away Powell’s speed and quickness, and, thus, his main source of attack. Still, Powell attempted to go up top once he downed Youngman. Youngman was only playing possum, however, and Powell crashed to the mat. Youngman capitalized immediately, lifting Powell to his feet and delivering a devastating piledriver for the win.

    Youngman wins, 53.

    Frankie Perez vs Jake Idol

Don’t let Idol’s pretty boy looks and goofy demeanor fool you, he is a talented brawler that can throw hands with the best of them. Perez, one of the most talented men to grace the independent scene in the past decade, was all too willing to oblige him. The two tore the house down, and the crowd went wild when Perez sent Idol into the first row and took the fight into the stands. They eventually made their way back into the ring, and it was there that Perez leveled Idol with a muscle buster followed by his trademark P-Clutch camel clutch submission. Idol was so out of it that the ref called the match without a tap having to occur, and Frankie advanced in the match of the tournament so far.

    Frankie wins, 65.

  4. BLOCK B

Super Showdown will be the first battlefield for the wrestler’s in Block B. The winner of this block, of course, will take on the winner of Block A, with the victor of the match heading to the finals!

    RyLmZlm.png

    HAIIo84.jpgtc0FFre.jpg

    Teddy Powell vs Ernest Youngman

These two PSW mainstays will clash in the first match. Powell is a crafty veteran, whereas Youngman is a brutally effective up and comer. That being said, this will be his first exposure outside of the lawless land of Pittsburgh, so how will he fare against the veteran Powell in a match with rules?

    8QCekfc.jpgTdRl8vP.jpg

California Love Machine vs Syd Collier

After graduating from the MAW dojo, Collier has put together quite the career for himself as a sound, if unspectacular wrestler. He matches up against the Californian sensation CLM, who looks to end the dojo product’s tournament early. Will Collier rise to new heights, or will CLM fly to victory?

    T5GjNmT.jpgxSoKkpV.jpg

    Frankie Perez vs Jake Idol

These two have tangled before, but only in tag matches. Without longtime partners Jackpot Jordan and Mikey James involved, will this singles match between CZCW veterans turn out differently than their tag encounters? Idol sure hopes so!

    l5O4hKs.jpgtKhrqrH.jpg

    Molokai Milk vs Fumihiro Ota

Milk is making his mainland US debut here, as he’s previously stuck to his native Hawaii and, interestingly, Australia, where he was a minor star in their RAW promotion before growing bored and heading home. His debut will be a tough one, as he’s running up against the super ninja himself, Ota. Ota’s experiencing quite the resurgence after disappearing from the wrestling scene following his exit from TCW in 2005, and he’s sure to be a tough test for Milk.

    AoXTUR3.jpgNMfAfxA.jpg

Davis Wayne vs Mr. Lucha III

The third iteration Mr. Lucha travels north of the border to take on Davis Wayne, who’s done his fair share of traveling to get here. Wayne started in his native Canada before hopping on a flight to Puerto Rico, and he’s found his way to MAW to put the skills he’s learned to test against one of the hottest luchadors in the game.

    IAPu8u7.jpgOFTe1fV.jpg

    Mario Heroic vs Nelson Callum

Heroic returns! The enigmatic superstar is back from his self-imposed exile, and he’s got his eyes set on the golden cup at the end of the tournament. Unfortunately, he takes on Nelson Callum in this round one matchup, and the cocky youngster is looking to play spoiler.

    h2nC4Xc.jpg1o6m7js.jpg

    Masked Cougar vs Jesus Chavez

The super hero-ish Cougar is pouncing his way onto the MAW stage for the first time. Joining him is Jesus Chavez, he’s quietly earned a reputation as a brutal heavyweight brawler in Puerto Rico alongside his partners in the Latino Kings, Hector Galindo and Rudy Velasquez. Which of these stars and their contrasting styles will come out on top?

    gBdjVQw.jpgMkZAQXF.jpg

    Ray Snow vs Frankie Dee

The second Frankie competing tonight draws a tough matchup against a verifiable ice man in Ray Snow. Dee’s attacks are quick and violent, but Snow is one of the more underrated warriors, with brutally effective and precise suplexes and throws. Will they be enough to stifle the flash of Frankie, or will Dee land a knockout shot?

    Predictions:

    Teddy Powell vs Ernest Youngman

    CLM vs Syd Collier

    Frankie Perez vs Jake Idol

    Molokai Milk vs Fumihiro Ota

Davis Wayne vs Mr. Lucha III

    Mario Heroic vs Nelson Callum

    Masked Cougar vs Jesus Chavez

    Ray Snow vs Frankie Dee

  5. Thanks, I really appreciate it! I'm using the first four shows to establish this massive cast of characters, so there's not a whole lot of show to show continuity yet, but I'm really glad someone appreciates it.

The next show might not be up for a few days. I'm a student and have several articles to write up for a journalism course, so those are taking the bulk of my writing time right now.

Thanks for sticking with me y'all!

The show opens, and Roderick Remus makes his entrance to a chorus of boos. The MAW faithful are all too familiar with the young cruiserweight’s cheating ways and dirty tactics, and let him know about it.

RR: Yeah, yeah, keep it coming.

The fans do, and Remus seems to bask in their jeers.

RR: I’ve heard it my whole career. No one ever liked me, and no one ever thought I would be anything. When my brother got hurt, people had the nerve to tell me that the wrong Remus retired. When I came to MAW and lit the world on fire, you booed me. Then, when I climbed the mountain and captured the MAW Championship, you told me it was a fluke. That I didn’t deserve the gold. All that says to me is that you idiots in the crowd don’t know jack about wrestling. If I could spit in the face of each and every one of your stupid faces I would.

The boos only grow louder now.

RR: I’m probably the greatest MAW champ you ever saw, and you were too dumb to realize what you were seeing before it was gone. And despite that, despite all my talent, all my charisma, all my raw magnetism, there’s one thing I’ve never done. I’ve never won the RCI. This year’s supposed to be the hardest one ever, but I don’t see it. In tonight’s main event, I take on Fox Mask. Everyone says he’s supposed to be some great wrestler, but you know what I see? Some loser wearing whiskers that says he wants to wrestle in Japan, but has never been good enough to make it out of high school gyms in Cali. He’s a no one, and I will pin him 1-2-3 tonight and make him the first victim in the Remus victory tour.

    El Mitico vs Al Coleman

On a night that features very few MAW veterans, Al Coleman makes his return after nearly ten years away to take on the young luchador El Mitico. Though Mitico’s lucha influences are clear, it’s his technique that truly shines and the two wrestlers were able to piece together a fine technical bout to open the show. Coleman opted for a traditional mat based attack, whereas Mitico showed off some flair and complexity with his offense. In the end, it was Coleman who picked up the victory after locking in a grapevined ankle lock in the center of the ring.

    Coleman wins, 47.

    Lo5ABaj.jpg

Ted Brady made his entrance next, with a sour expression on his face. He snatched a microphone from ringside and prepared to address the crowd.

TB: You should all be ashamed. To support this tournament is to support everything wrong with this business! I’ve been in this business for 24 years, and never before have I seen a more pathetic, disrespectful-to-the-business collection of talent than I have here. Closed fists. Top rope moves. They are literally flying in the face of the rules! There’s so much inexperience here I’m surprised every match hasn’t ended in a time limit draw when the “wrestlers” can’t figure out what to do next. Tonight, and every night after, I’m going to show you what real wrestling is.

    Acid II vs Ted Brady

In an ironic twist, Brady’s first round opponent Acid II also happens to be the least experienced wrestler in the tournament, with just three years in the business. However, he was also trained by a legend in Acid and has spent three years in the ultra-violent PSW atmosphere. Due to the massive experience advantage Brady held, he was able to dictate the pace of most of the match, keeping Acid grounded firmly on the ground with good, traditional, pro wrestling. He couldn’t do that the entire match, however, and Acid was able to take to the skies to put Brady flat on his own back. To finish the match, Acid almost insultingly applied the Acidity Test, a submission hold, to score the tap out victory.

    Acid II wins, 33.

Backstage, Ford Gumble and Harry Allen, the Young Guns, were warming up for their matches when The Boys from the Yukon strode up, towering over them. Gumble eyed Whitaker and Mort angrily.

WW: Well if it ain’t the not-so-Young Guns.

HMM: A couple of small boys. Bitesize even.

Gumble, always itching for a fight, lunged forward, but Allen held his partner back.

HA: Well dang, ain’t you boys tall. I reckon you’re twice as big as us, and probably four times as dumb.

This time Mad Mort lunged forward, and Whitaker held him back.

WW: Big words from a little man. Be interesting to see if you can back em up.

    Allen grinned.

HA: Oh, I reckon you ain’t gonna be seeing a thing, ‘cept the bright lights when ol’ Ford here lays your ass out.

    WW: That a threat?

Allen looked at his furious partner.

HA: Oh no, that’s what I call a guaran-damn-tee, son.

Tigre Salvaje Jr vs Dragon Americano

These two luchadors put everything on the line here, busting out offense not typically seen north of the border. The match took place in equal parts in the sky and on the mat, as both wrestlers displayed a wide range of skills. In the end, it was Tigre that came out on top, when he ducked below a clothesline from Dragon and executed a lightning-quick Salvaje Suplex.

    Tigre wins, 40.

After the match, both luchadors showed their respect to one another with a handshake and a bow. Before heading to the back, Dragon raised Tigre’s hand to the approval of the crowd.

    Ford Gumble vs Whitehorse Whitaker

The awaited matchup between Gumble and Whitaker was next, and saw the much, much heavier Whitaker bully Gumble for much of it. Gumble got some offense in, but Whitaker was proving to be just a bit too much with his power game. That is, until Whitaker decided to turn his back on a downed Gumble and play to the crowd. When he turned his attention back to Gumble, it was too late. Ford jumped to his feet and executed a brutal Quick Draw Kick out of nowhere that led to the 1-2-3.

    Gumble wins, 43.

Frantic Ali was out next, with a microphone in hand.

FA: Tonight I’m taking on Mimic, and I gotta be honest, I ain’t got a clue who this cat is. I looked him up, and it turns out he’s just some little Canadian. That’s all I needed to know. See, I’m from Cali, the greatest place on earth, and I don’t lose to people from that dump in the north. And I’ll tell you, once I pin him, he ain’t gonna get a “soorry” out of me.

    cn0ScEO.jpg

Mimic came out next, his own microphone in hand.

M: Keep talking. Get it all out, because once I spike your head into the mat and break your neck I don’t think you’re going to be saying much for a long time.

Mimic spiked his mic into the ground and squared up with Ali, and the match was on!

    Mimic vs Frantic Ali

If Ali had looked up more than Mimic’s name and home country, he might have been better prepared for what came next. Mimic has a reputation as one of the meanest, most vicious wrestlers in ACPW, and he turned all that aggression toward Ali in a, ahem, frantic attack. Ali was able to regain his faculties after the initial onslaught, and the two proceeded to trade momentum back and forth in a fast paced matchup that ended violently when Ali caught Mimic in mid air and drilled him into the mat with a death valley driver.

    Ali wins, 44.

    lpeV6be.jpg1UYNqA9.jpg

Backstage, a heavily-breathing Ali was walking to his locker room when he passed Fox Mask warming up for his match with Roderick Remus. Ali grinned and greeted the masked man.

FA: Well if it ain’t mister CZCW himself! I been waiting a long time to talk to you.

Fox Mask stood up tall, but didn’t say anything.

FA: Yeah, they say you don’t talk much. That’s fine, I’ll make it short. People always talk about you. They tell me how great you are. But I know the truth. See, I know you ain’t as good as they say. I know you stay in your little CZCW bubble because you’re afraid of real competition. Honestly, I’m surprised you’re here! Well let me tell you something, Mr. Coastal Zone: if you somehow make it to the finals of this block, that’s it. It’s over. Cause if you make it that far, you run into me, and I’m the buzzsaw that splits your legend in half.

Ali slapped Fox on the shoulder.

FA: So good luck tonight, kid.

He laughed and walked away, and Fox just resumed his warm-up routine.

    Bradford Peverell vs Sky King

The heavy-handed Peverell laid into Sky King as soon as the match kicked off. He was clearly bigger and stronger, but King’s wealth of experience came into play often as he was able to capitalize on even the smallest of opening’s Peverell left. In the end, though, it was Peverell that came out on top when Sky King flew off the top rope and Peverell leveled him with a nuclear left hook after what was clearly the match of the night to this point.

    Peverell wins, 53.

    NjJRsGx.jpg

Before Peverell could even raise his arms in victory, Al Coleman sprinted to the ring and leveled him with a hard German suplex. With Peverell dazed, Coleman locked a tight kimura on his left arm and only released it when several officials, including Sam Keith, pried him off. Coleman grinned as he backed up the ramp, having damaged the most dangerous weapon of his opponent in the next round of the tournament.

Harry Allen vs Howlin’ Mad Mort

Mort was certainly furious after their earlier exchange, and Allen took advantage of his fury often. Mort just couldn’t help but be overzealous in his attacks, and the veteran Allen was all too keen to allow him. The finish came when Mort charged Allen, and Allen pulled the top rope down and sent Mort toppling to the floor. Allen vaulted the ropes and landed a plancha on the big man before rolling into the ring, quickly scaling the turnbuckles, and diving off to land a Fistful of Dynamite for the 1-2-3.

    Allen wins, 46.

    Fox Mask vs Roderick Remus

Match of the night goes to this fast paced bout between former MAW champ Roderick Remus and legend of the Coastal Zone Fox Mask. Near fall after near fall occurred, and neither man seemed able to put to put the other down. Roderick looked on the verge of finishing it at one point with a Remus Clutch, but Fox was able to get to the ropes and force the break. Remus, desperate now, lifted Fox to the top rope and climbed up after him, clearly setting up something devastating. Fox fought back though, and after a headbutt, flipped the bird to Remus before driving him to the mat from the top rope with a Fox Flip Off DDT for the win!

    Fox Mask wins, 57.

Coleman makes his first MAW appearance in nearly ten years, and he does so against a tough test in the technical technico known as El Mitico. Mitico has made a name for himself as an immensely talented wrestler in Mexico, but he runs into a world-class in Al Coleman in this first round matchup. Who will come out on top?</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sky King has spent nearly two decades perfecting his craft, and has a closet full of gold and a long string of standout performances in Canada to show for it. He’ll try to take to the skies and fly over Peverell to the next round. Peverell, in turn, will likely do everything in his power to land the nuclear bomb known as his left hand. King is a devastating performer, but if anyone has a puncher’s chance to win the tournament, it’s Bradford!</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Another ACPW standout standout in Mimic makes his MAW debut. Mimic’s built a reputation as a buzzsaw of a competitor over the past few years. He was once merely a middling cruiserweight, but he’s upped his mat game to compliment a potent aerial assault and has become quite the dangerous man. His opponent is Frantic Ali, a west coast brawler with a chip on his shoulder. Always looking for a fight, Ali is certain to find one in the very game Mimic.</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Gumble will emerge for the first time in years for this matchup against Whitehorse Whitaker, the big man from the Yukon. Whitaker is big and powerful and easily outweighs Gumble, but if Ford’s patented Quick Draw Kick still has the heat it once had, he could end this match at any moment.</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

These two luchadors will meet for the first time in what should be an exciting match. Americano will represent a pillar of Mexican wrestling in OLLIE, while Tigre will be bringing his talents north from the upstart company CILL. Which masked man will reign supreme?</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In a matchup to mirror that of their tag team partners, Allen and Mort will clash here as well. Mort has an even greater size advantage over Allen than Whitaker does over Gumble, so it will be interesting to see how Allen handles it. That said, Allen’s tangled with men like Tyson Baine in the past, so he’s sure to have a few tricks up his sleeve!</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Brady has seen and done it a lot in wrestling, and he probably hates all of it. Masked high fliers are the bane of his existence, and he unfortunately is matched up with one of the toughest young fliers on the scene today in Acid II. Trained by the original, Acid shows all the promise in the world and displays the trademark viciousness of his mentor. Will it be enough to topple the canny vet?</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In what could very well be the marquee match of the evening, Fox Mask makes his MAW debut against former MAW champion Roderick Remus. Remus has made it known on social media that he has no respect for the legendary Fox Mask, but he’ll have to at least be wary of the canny veteran if he doesn’t want this match to end his tournament hopes prematurely. </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Backstage, Kirk Jameson is preparing for his main event matchup against Air Attack Weasel. As he wraps his wrists, he speaks.

KJ: I’ve spent my entire on an island. I lived lean. Unless you’re a tape trader, you probably don’t know much about me. That’s okay. I like it that way. You see, the guys in my block, in this tournament, all they know about me is that I’m ‘pretty good’ in the ring. That’s it. They don’t know about the wars I’ve been to. The blood I’ve spilled. The violence that has been instilled in me while 10,000 Puerto Ricans scream for your head. But after tonight, they’ll know. They’ll all know.

Off camera, a slow clap begins and Air Attack weasel walks into frame, smirking.

    stIpzUu.jpg

AAW: That’s touching. Really. But the reason no one knows much about you is because you’re a loser. A nobody. A never-will-be. You’re right, though. After tonight, everyone will know you. But it won’t matter, because what they’re gonna know you for is staring up at the lights while the ref counts 1-2-3.

Island Boy Apollo vs Jamie Atherton

The first match of block A and the tournament as a whole kicked off with furious action. Atherton, a quick Canadian cruiserweight prospect, kept the much larger Apollo off balance for much of the match with a frenetic pace. In the end, though, it was Apollo that picked up the win with an Island Driver to become the first man to advance to the second round of the tournament. Apollo looked good in victory here, showcasing a bit of the Puerto Rican inspired violence Kirk Jameson spoke of earlier.

    Apollo wins, 42

    Xavier Reckless vs Sayeed Ali

Sayeed got this wild brawl off to a hot start. Xavier couldn’t even make it into the ring before the ultra-violent Ali came sprinting from the back to blindside him. The two almost got the match thrown out as they refused to enter the ring and officially start the bout for several minutes. Eventually they did end up in the ring, and it was there that Sayeed put a violent end to this violent encounter with a GBH Driver.

    Sayeed wins, 45

    D6mWFJK.jpgAoVUE4O.jpgGdgIb6j.jpg

Dean Waldorf is in the ring now, pacing as he waits for his opponent, Ryan Turner, to make his entrance. When Turner does come out, he’s not alone. Wielding his guitar, Turner is accompanied by his partner and bandmate, Stan Manna, and the two belt out an original tune that insults Dean, his partner Marv, and Stan’s round one opponent George Wolfe.

    Ryan Turner vs Dean Waldorf

Ryan makes a good showing for himself here, and endears himself to the fans as he plays to them whenever he has the slightest bit of offense. Unfortunately, that only seems to infuriate Dean. After mauling Turner with suplexes, Waldorf sets him up on the second rope and German suplexes him to the mat for the win.

    Waldorf wins, 48

    SGkE5VB.jpgXAz939Z.jpg

Before the next match begins, we go backstage and see Island Boy Apollo strolling backstage after his victory. He comes face to face with Kirk Jameson, who’s in the middle of a seemingly stream of Hindu squats. Kirk stops as he walks and the two go chest to chest. It’s a tense moment, that’s broken when Apollo grins and the two old friends embrace. Apollo slaps Kirk on the chest and says one thing before he walks away.

    IBA: Kick his ass, bro.

    Stan Manna vs George Wolfe

Back in the ring, Stan Manna faces off with George Wolfe. Wolfe does not look happy that he’s there, and Manna doesn’t look comfortable with it considering his partner is in the back getting medical treatment. The match is competitive, though it’s Wolfe that always seems to come out on top. Wolfe puts Manna away with a running powerslam to advance.

    Wolfe wins, 47

After the match, Wolfe snatches a microphone.

GW: This is bullshit! I have busted my ass for this company, and I don’t even get a first round bye? Worse, they insult me and trot me out beat on some loser that got ran out of the company a decade ago! Well I got news for ya, this ain’t gonna fly! I’m putting everyone on notice: George Wolfe is here to kick some ass and win the RCI!

Amazing Fire Fly vs Max Mayhem

As acrobatic a contest as you will ever see. Fly certainly had the speed advantage over the already quick Mayhem, but Max’s experience edge proved to be satisfactory. Fly missed big with a shooting star press, and Max took advantage and nailed a Canadian Tumbleweed to score the win and advance.

    Mayhem wins, 36

After the bout, the two shake hands and Mayhem tells Fly that he’s got a huge future ahead of him. He then raises Fly’s hand and the crowd roars their approval.

    Kip Keenan vs K-Squared

Kip Keenan, with his all-American pedigree and movie star looks was touted as the favorite here, and he showed why as he made short work of K-Squared. He made K-Squared tap to an ankle lock and looked good doing it.

    Kip wins, 45

Roger Cage walks to the ring, mic in hand.

RC: This is an absolute joke. A travesty even! Come November, I’m going to win this tournament, and this company dares to disrespect me by not giving me the main event? I’m not even in the most segments tonight! I had to beg to get some promo time before this joke of a match. I swear, this company is run by morons, because if they were actually smart they would realize that more Roger Cage equals more dollar signs and even more digits after them.

Cali Slick made his entrance, sized Cage up, and snatched the mic away from him.

    CS: You talk too much.

Slick smashed the mic on Cage’s head, and the match began!

    Cali Slick vs Roger Cage

Roger Cage was excellent here. Whether on offense or defense, he had the crowd engaged the entire time. Slick was always just a step behind, which could come down to the seven year experience gap, but he also made a great showing for himself. Unfortunately, it was cage that pulled out the victory after hitting Slick with a Cage Rage and then stacking his feet up on the middle rope for leverage.

    Cage wins, 61

Kirk Jameson vs Air Attack Weasel

Weasel opened the match with a cocky slap, and Kirk immediately shot a huge double leg and pounded Weasel into the mat. Weasel picked his shots well, but Kirk always seemed to be there ready to cut him off at a moment’s notice. Kirk really showed that his time in Puerto Rico had transformed him from being merely a good hand into a real stretcher. Everything he did had a nasty, mean edge to it, all the way down to grinding his forearm into Weasel when he went for pins. Eventually, Kirk was able to down Weasel and slap on a Kirk-Hold for the win, as Weasel had no choice but to tap.

    Kirk wins, 64

  10. Sam Keith stepped through the ropes in a fluid, practiced motion. Despite all the wars and injuries he had battled through, all the blood and sweat he had poured out, this was his still his natural habitat. He traded his tights for slacks and his boots for dress shoes, sure, but he looked like he belonged on the mat.

Outside the ring, the press had assembled. When a legend like Sam Keith says he has an announcement that will change the business forever, you stop and listen. Their cameras flashed as Keith approached the podium set up in the middle of the ring. Whatever he had to say, this was a moment to capture.

Keith coughed into his hand, then reached out adjusted the microphone on the podium. "January first," he said. "2016. New Year's Day. Today's a day of resolutions. New beginnings. I have a resolution, myself. I know I probably don't seem like the type, but it's true."

"Most people want to lose weight. Learn something new. Run a marathon. But I'm not most people. I'm a wrestler, from head to toe, down to my core. And for better or worse, that means I'm larger than life. Everything I do is, right down to resolutions."

"So it makes sense that when I make a resolution, I go big. In 2016, I'm making a change. Not just for me, though. That's not enough. That just whets my appetite. No, in 2016 I'm making a change for this entire industry that we call professional wrestling."

A murmur went through the crowd as attendees whispered to one another, eager to hear more. Journalists furiously scribbled down notes.

Keith's lips spread into a wry grin beneath his scraggly beard. "Rip Chord could have chosen anyone in the business to take over MAW when he retired, and he chose me. Why? Because he knew that I was the only man he could trust to run it right."

"Since it's inception, MAW has had a reputation as the place wrestlers came to get somewhere else. It's been a stepping stone. Rip is one of the greatest legends this business has ever known, and I'll be damned if I let his creation be known as a stepping stone. Moving forward, MAW will not be the layover you stop in at for a cup of coffee on your trip to New York or Florida. No, moving forward MAW will be THE destination for wrestling."

"Rip is a legend. I keep saying it, but it's true. What I'm announcing here today revolves around that man, not me. That's why, and it does pain me to say this, I've canceled the Sam Keith Invitational this year. I run this company, but this company isn't about me. It's about the athletes that pour buckets of blood and sweat on this mat. They leave bits of their souls in here every night, and they don't need to be chasing after a trophy with their boss's name on it."

"The trophy they need to strive for is the one that's been here from the beginning. The Rip Chord Invitational. The hottest prize on the independents. A trophy that means you are the cream of the crop, the cat's meow, and the apple of this industry’s eye."

"At least that's what we tell ourselves. Everyone that's won the RCI has been great, that's undeniable, but I'd be lying if I said they were the best. Why? Because they haven't beaten the best. Findlay didn't beat Frankie Perez. Mainstream Hernandez didn't beat Mikey James. My own son Greg, talented as he is, didn't beat anyone that's not on our shows every month."

"This year, that changes. I have scoured the continent to find the best independent wrestlers North America has to offer, and I have locked them down for the Rip Chord Invitational. When I say this YEAR everything changes, I mean it. RCI is no longer in January. This is the biggest tournament MAW, wrestling, hell, the world has ever seen.’

"From January through November, over 11 shows, the best 64 independent wrestlers in North America will scratch and claw their way to the top of the mountain. When there's one man left standing, and only then, he's going to hold up a trophy with Rip Chord's name on it, and he's going to look down at the fallen men below and know that without a shadow of a doubt he is the absolute best wrestler there is."

Keith leaned back from the podium, and the journalists erupted. Hands shot up, cameras flashed, and people shouted questions louder and louder, hoping Keith would hear and answer them.

But Keith had nothing more to say. This announcement was about making them hungry for more. No names would be named. No potential matchups. There damn sure wouldn't be any brackets announced. He would let this sit for a while. Let the anticipation build. And just before the excitement started to wane, he would drop the first tournament block.

  11. The Rip Chord Invitational: Where Legends are Born

When a legend like Sam Keith says he has an announcement that will change the business forever, you stop and you listen.

No, in 2016 I'm making a change for this entire industry that we lovingly call professional wrestling."

Leaving this here for now instead of just starting a new topic as I won't be able to actually sit down and start writing on this one until after, fittingly, the new year. The scenario and tournament bracket is all set up, so I'm excited to get back to my own computer and start dropping the entrants and bracket in an actual topic!

I haven't written a diary here in years, and I'm excited to sit down and write one that doesn't have the burden of being open ended. It's just 11, maybe 12 shows, with everything built to a logical conclusion.

Sweet Tabitha is worth hiring but more of a valet than anything. I'm personally don't of Kammi Ling as a heel manager (have her paired with Hellion right now) but I'm not sure she's particularly great at anything.</p>
  13. I just finished up a fun angle in CZCW. I signed El Heroe de Mexico, dropped the "de Mexico" part of his name, and have him working as an uber cocky heel. He captured the Xtreme title pretty quickly and and has pretty much ran the division for months.

The next step was for him to declare he had nothing left to do with the belt and challenge Spencer Spade, my figurehead, for the world championship. To do so, he had to vacate the Xtreme title, so it's sort of like when Austin Aries had to vacate the X-Division championship. Anyway, Heroe vacates it immediately because he's so sure of himself. Long story short, he fights for the belt and puts in a really strong showing, but loses out in the end.

The angle wasn't over yet, though. On the same show Heroe challenges for the world title, I had a ladder match to determine the new Xtreme champion, and Sonny Wildside came out on top there. The next show, Heroe, now titleless and desperate, attacks Wildside and demands a shot since he never lost the belt in a match. Wildside agrees, and in the match Heroe mostly dominates with Wildside getting some shine here and there. It ends with Wildside getting a flash pin, though, putting him over and getting Heroe out of a division that he'd gotten too over to stick around in.

  14. <p>I'm up to cult with CZCW and everything's going pretty smooth.</p><p> </p><p>

Problem is, Frantic Ali has turned into a weird asshole. First, he turned my entire locker room against Miller Fforde of all people. That worked out since Fforde didn't have great top row skills and I could afford to release him for a morale boost to like half my locker room.</p><p> </p><p>

But now, he's turned the locker room against Marvel Malloy, who in addition to being part of one of the best tag teams in the world has turned into a massively talented singles guy too. And now because Frantic got weird and wants to stir things up backstage I have to worry about face of the company and all around nice guy having a strong dislike relationship with Malloy because I tried to meddle in their relationship and it backfired.</p>

  15. I can also say that at least in the case of MLW -- it has an actual cable outlet too with BeInSports. But as RingRider pointed out, there are more broadcaster types coming in 2020 and I'm confident that it will simulate YouTube as a viable means of distribution -- though, technically in the game you could distribute your shows on the internet already as opposed to on DVD and you didn't get the money you'd get from DVD but you had higher gains in popularity.

It turns out I'm a total idiot lol. I've been playing TEW since like 08 and never noticed that there was an on demand option available for all broadcasters that basically turns them into youtube. I just used it for my broadcast extension and my ratings shot from .09 to .21 in a week!
