TEW 07 - is it better than 05 enough to buy it?

Recommended Posts

Basically the title says it all. What is actually improved in 07 over 05. I've had a little play with the demo but not to a great extent. Things that would have to be sorted in 07 for me to buy it would be things like in the booking future matches section you can book 1v1, tag, triple threat, fatal four way but you can't pre book stuff like 5v5 matches. If you want to prebook matches for Survivor Series this is a setback. Also you can't prebook specialist matches. ie if you want to have a match at a PPV as say a hell in a cell and you announce the match a few weeks in advance on a tv show you can only prebook it as a 1v1 match without specifying the special stipulation. You can't prebook matches to have a special guest referee either for example Moving on to road agent notes, are they improved at all in 07? that is something I have tinkered with a little in the demo and they seem to be exactly the same save for a couple of additions. You still can't have more than 10 notes, you can't book order of eliminations, there are so many ways that 05 could be improved that I don't think have been in 07. It is up to you, my fellow TEW fans to persuade me and prove me wrong :)

we don't need to prove you wrong. Hundreds of fans love the game. It's your personal choice whether to buy the game or not. Half of the pre-booking stuff isn't even necessary ultimately. Buy it if you want. If you don't, then no one is twisting your arm. The only proof is the game. If you're not sold on it, don't buy it. Why should we have to prsuade you? If Adam's diaries weren't enough, then nothing we can say will.

i completely agree with MW. we all love the game. if you dont, fine then dont buy it, stick with TEW 05. this question often comes up with games, especially games like Madden; are the extra features and updated info in the game enough to justify buying a game thats almost identical to the original apart from the extra features. for me, yes. if no for you, then just dont buy it

All I can say is that for me it was worth it. But if you're having as much fun with 05 as you would with 07 why pay to upgrade? Like everyone else has stated, its your decision. Another point: 07 is harder than 05 so if you're looking for a bigger challenge you'll want 07.

Guys, guys! I'm starting to think this thread ought to be locked on the grounds of clogging space. Can none of you say anything of use?! All this triangulation and "It's your decision" garbage is empty filibustering. The real issue is that Sebsy hasn't said how he'd define "better enough". If someone would take the bloody time to find out what he means, then maybe we could make this thread earn its keep. Heck we might eveb be able to guide him in his decision. If he felt comfortable making a decision with what he knew, he'd have made it already.
Well scientists have proven that if you buy TEW 2007, that you are 10 times more likely to get laid...
Indeed! Two weeks before TEW2007 was released I got laid. Nothing special. A couple of nights after it was released and I bought it, I was involved in a foursome. Okay, so maybe I didn't get 10 girls, but that's still a pretty good step up! Back on topic though, match type and guest ref pre-booking doesn't really make that much difference to me. Sure it's nice one in a while, but while I haven't tested it, there doesn't seem to be any real benefits to having guest refs anyway. You can book 5v5 matches and Battle Royals in Advance now. I never played 05 (or 04) so I can't say exactly what''s changed, just that I thoroughly enjoy it. Is the old Developer Diary still around?

That's like a person rents a game, thinks it sucks, and then asks everyone he knows why he should buy a ****ty game? Why would you buy a game you thought was inferior, much less ask people why you should? If he's content with 05, that's fine. I hate the concept of "I don't like it, convince me". If the game didn't convince you, then what's the point. Us telling him he should buy it won't matter as he's the one that's spending the money, and ultimately has to play it. Why should we have to like the game for him?

If he felt comfortable making a decision with what he knew, he'd have made it already.
heh cappyboy, perhaps you haven't seen the 16+ threads of others doing the same exact thing? "Convince me to buy TEW07" is just a thinly veiled attempt to bring out the fanbois. News flash: We've always been here and just reading this forum will bear that out. sebsy, honestly, the demo (the 1.0 demo) and pre-release editor was enough to convince me to buy 07. Since I purchased the game, it has been upgraded and improved several times, which is more than nice. 07 is MUCH more inherently difficult, intricate, and deep than 05 and while that's a huge plus for me, I know there are folks who don't like games that take a lot of effort to understand on a basic level. But I'm a tinkerer, I like seeing what makes things work and deconstructing a game's mechanics to see what works best for me. I can't even play TEW05 anymore. It's like going from calculus to simple arithmetic. I knew going in that I was easily going to get fair value for my money and I haven't been disappointed. $35 for well over 1,000 hours of gameplay and/or strategy? In the end, it's YOUR decision to make. The things you list as important to you, don't even warrant a mention from me. I didn't at first, but after I thought about it, I agree with Adam. No one decides to buy a PPV because it has a ladder match or TLC or Elimination Chamber match in it. They buy it based on WHO is in the match. The things you list as major just seem like a desire to make the game easier ("I can boost the heat of this match by putting Stone Cold as the special guest referee!") in 05 fashion, ignoring the fact that advance booking heat is VARIABLE in 07 as opposed to FIXED in 05. I tell you what, I'd much rather have the ability to design my promotion's product to specifically target the kind of fans I want, rather than being able to sell a pay per view based on a match type. I don't use special guest referees, I don't want to sell an event based on a match type but rather on the people in the match, I don't need eleventy billion spaces for road agent notes (I use the same four, typically. Sometimes more, but never needing more than 10) or order of elimination (I know of ways to accomplish the exact same thing with the currently available notes. But then, I don't care about when anyone else is eliminated, just the final two), all of that stuff is fluff to me. My mind was made up with: Product definition, increased difficulty (due in part to that product definition), variable advance booking heat, custom merchandising, moving looks & star quality out of entertainment skills (now if Adam would just move ANNOUNCING out of entertainment skills, at least for calculation purposes, it'd be peachy :p), title prestige, event importance, house show booking (though it takes too damn long IMO), and on and on and on. But that's exactly the point. I bought TEW07 based on the performance of a demo that was LESS fully featured than the one you most likely played. I saw how much more involved this game was compared to its predecessor and that sold me. But then, I'm weird in that I don't like playing as WWE or TNA and I actually do a cost:benefit analysis before I buy a game. (i.e. Game costs $35. If I go to the movies, that'll be $15 minimum. Therefore, the game has to be able to give me more than two hours of enjoyment ($15x2=30<$35) to justify its cost. TEW07 surpassed that the day it was released) cappyboy, you say no one has said anything of use but I could say the same thing about your post. It didn't answer the original question posed and just lambasted the responses that had been made. Furthermore, there's really no reason NOT to buy 07 at this point, in my view. The folks who complained about real world data ("I'm not buying this til there's real wrestlers"), have several mods to choose from. The next edition of TEW hasn't even been hinted at so it's not a case of "I'll wait til that one comes out". 05 has largely run its course because 07 is so high in quality. Different strokes for different folks. I didn't/don't need a real world mod available to play (and if I did, I'd make my own rather than wait months and then take potshots at the people who put in the time to develop one), I don't need a game world where one promotion dominates all others and never has to face repercussions for mediocrity, and I really like the subtle mechanics that 80% of people playing won't notice but that affect gameplay nonetheless. There are some things I'd like to see changed or improved upon but I can say the same thing about EVERY game I've ever played (going all the way back to Intellivision). I also don't value $35 quite as much as others might, given the returns on that investment I'm likely to get. Compare it to any other form of entertainment besides TV and it seems clear to me which is superior.
And once again, Remi proves why he such an asset to this board. Even in calling me out on doing no better than all the deflectors I was calling out, he gives a good strong answer to the original question. One of my great frustrations when entering discussion boards is how weak answers can be when questions are posed. I understand this is a FAQ at this point. But even so, they are DISCUSSION boards. And it's difficult to get stuff like tone and inflection online. So when I go into a thread, I tend to take it at face value unless the poster is familiar enough that I know to do otherwise. It gets annoying when I see stuff like "Well, it's your decision" or "Use your imagination" dodges rather than a point I can either back up or counter. Of course then again, I'm also the mutant who hates all the "babe league" type poll threads because everyone will choose Alyssa Milano over Shannon Doherty or whatnot and not even giving passing reasons why. So take what I'm telling you for what it's worth. And besides, if you look at the time stamp I believe it was getting late in my part of the world. No excuses of course. It's mea culpa time and I admit it. Bring on the crow and pass the habanero sauce.

pfft asset? ME? heh panix retired from his position so I've taken on the mantle of GDS board spammer. :p But I can understand the frustration. Wasn't too long ago that Adam himself was repeatedly admonishing me for "having a go" at people. The thing is, the question is just SO nebulous and general that it's almost impossible to answer it well. I can see sebsy's point about wanting to be able to advance book certain match types. It would be yet another shortcut around constantly loading the creative screen (for singles matches). But I'd rather see the manual booking process streamlined so advance booking isn't so much more convenient. Many people advance book JUST to get around the manual booking process (I know I do). But being able to capitalize on the prestige of a match would be just so broken. You could conceivably have people interested in a Khali vs Snitsky TLC match JUST based on the match's prestige. (Show of hands, how many people would be willing to pay to see that match in anything other than 'car crash' or 'train wreck' fascination?) But being able to advance book '1 vs 1 TLC' would be awesome if the manual booking process is the alternative. The special guest referee thing also had me scratching my head. Who uses those often enough to want the booking interface possibly revamped to accomodate them? That's the 'different strokes...' factor of it. If the demo doesn't convince you that it's a worthwhile game, I dunno what anyone else could SAY that would change your mind about a game you've essentially played already.

I've been playing this series since EW9000. I liked it, I liked EWR, I loved TEW2004, hated TEW2005, and love TEW2007. So yes, it is quite a bit better. It may seem the same on the surface, but in reality, TEW2007 is many times better than TEW2005.
No one decides to buy a PPV because it has a ladder match or TLC or Elimination Chamber match in it.
That's very much not true. I'm not talking about whether the game is better off with or without it (because that's really a personal decision), but people definately do (in some instances) buy a ppv or attend shows based solely on special matches. In fact many smaller companies advertise a gimmick match (eg on flyers and posters) without naming the participants.

I also never bought 05, because I didn't like the demo, or was it because I didn't have the money? I don't remember...
