The diary is coming to an end and I just start reading it lol - Sorry Stranger that it took so long to get into your work but it is my loss. I am only on page like 19 but read those 20 pages in one sitting just now. Everyone seemed to making this diary seem like the hellall of dynasties and they ain't far off the mark. Your vision is incredible, and the 24-7 backstories of remembering by the past PPPW combatants is insanely cool. PPPW sits right next to The Hammer by Tiger and The Fire Ring by Marcel and Monkey's DAVE as THE BEST work on these forums. Congrats go to you sir.

And I like to think that people can come to these whenever they want to... It's been a wild ride. And I can still barely believe it's actually over, or almost over... The mod is great, though, and to me the mod is the real star.

Rockwell and Gilmore are two of the biggest guys in PPPW history. So is Money, maybe, but Holmes is one of those guys who hasn't really made a huge mark.

You bounce back. Chances are that it was a couple of weeks at most before the pain of your biggest match ebbed away. And me? I'm still feeling the effects of matches from last year. “What's coming, this Saturday, it's probably going to be the last match I'm capable of having. And I understand that, Tommy. I've come to terms with it. “What you don't understand, yet, is that someone who knows this is coming for them has nothing to lose, Tommy. When you and I get in the ring, it isn't going to matter that you've got your friends. It won't matter that I've got my family. “What's going to matter to me is beating the arrogance out of you. It's doing whatever I can to take a little prima donna who is all too willing to cheat, all too willing to make it on the backs of others rather than his own hard work, and turn him into someone we can be proud of. Someone who deserves his title shots. “I came to Philly Pro to give back to the sport that made me, Tommy. Consider you my final project.” w/ vs. w/ Helen Bach & Wanda Fish w/ Jack Giedroyc vs. Kit Hatoyama & Kate Dangerous w/ Tom Gilmore Nothing great, but nothing bad; a solid tag match that manages to evade being entirely about sexuality while still having Tom Gilmore at ringside, setting something like a record. Fish and Bach remain no-nonsense throughout, eventually allowing them to drive through Kit & Kate's somewhat more amused attitude, Fish scoring the win with something of a one-off move, a corkscrew moonsault that pins Hatoyama. The pop of the match, however? Kate Dangerous playing a bout of tonsil hockey with Tom Gilmore. Go figure, huh? Helen Bach & Wanda Fish defeated Kit Hatoyama & Kate Dangerous Rating: D XFW World Championship – Hardcore Match vs. Randall Hopkirk vs. Guide Guide seems to have it all figured out early on, taking Hopkirk to the limit and almost beyond. Phunk, sitting in on commentary, appears distraught, particularly at Barber's partisan needling of the XFW former star. Hopkirk finds new weapons on a regular basis, as does Guide, but the XFW veteran begins to turn the tables. He starts to really hit home after a while, and that's what really stands out; by the time his aid hits the ring, he doesn't need it. He's just rubbing it in. Sending Rockwell a message. That message is that Ronnie Cahill is his backup. Guide gets pulverised by a two-pronged assault topped off with a Randallism, and Hopkirk chalks up 'another successful defence' as Phunk puts it. Randall Hopkirk defeated Guide Rating: D- Patterson is suddenly in the ring, staring down Cahill and backing him off. The two massive men stand off, still for nearly a minute as the crowd's anticipation mounts. Then Cahill moves, lunging forward, and Patterson just about manages to block the worst of it. Blows are exchanged. Cahill actually manages to get the huge Patterson off the ground for a slam that practically shakes the ring, but Patterson makes it up once again, driving his rival backward with a single massive punch followed by a powerbomb. By the time Cahill's back up there's a locker room holding the two men away. “I think,” Barber observes, “that Saturday we ought to settle these two's beef.” w/ vs. w/ Bryan Holmes & Rich Money w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Chris Rockwell & Tom Gilmore w/ Kit Hatoyama It's not going to go down in history as one of Philly Pro's best matches, but it's nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to talking about their final match. Both teams have a lot to prove at this point, and it's Holmes who ultimately – once again – comes out on top, this time pinning Rockwell after blind-tagging himself in while Rockwell focuses on Money. A swift roll-up later and Holmes becomes Philly Pro's final televised winner. Brent Hill's entire Philly Pro career provides the central theme, dwelling on his title reigns. Intercut are Human Arsenal's unstoppable return, the British Invasion's growth and dissension, and Gold Guarantees/the Golden Age's sheer dominance over the past year, the whole thing set to Run DMC's It's Like That. The whole thing fades out into the Philly Pro logo... Main events and promos, main events and promos, the main reasons throughout that Philly Pro remained strong, and what saved this show. And because Phil Vibert was playing it smart, we couldn't let on that this was our final show. “But we all knew, man. We knew that this was it. Horatio gave a whole lot of us promo time that final month without really giving us any direction – not that he really scripted us heavily any time, but he'd give you the key notes. This time around he just told everyone to talk about who they were facing, who they were teaming with. “So we could talk from the heart about the company.” Gilmore half-smiles. “I gotta tell you, I knew I was just heading back to the Stones with Kit and Brent and Steve – but I was gonna miss the crazy kids heading out to DaVE and the Coastal Zone and Japan and all the rest.” -- “He gave his last match to us,” Wanda smiles. “Or that's how it felt. Still does, really. His family, me, JD, Jack and Tommy of course... we got to wrestle him in his final match. A little bit of history at what, for most of us, was the early stages of our careers. “Only the first time I won a belt really matches up to that as an accolade.” -- “I left Philly Pro the first time because they were never going to give me a shot at the Tri-State,” Chris Morisette smiles. “I came back expecting that to change, and aside from a quick stint early in pay-per-view I never got that near it. “And you know what? I couldn't complain. The second time around, Horatio gave people like me a purpose. I built a fan following I'd never had before because he listened to my ideas on how I saw Chris Rockwell. And come Neighbourhood Threat I felt like I was actually in the right kind of place on the card. -- “It was a little strange,” Whistler concedes, “no longer being the face of the company. But I never quite felt I'd been abandoned, y'know... I was doing interesting stuff til right near the end. “I won't pretend being left off the build for the final show didn't sting, but... at least I was on it, right?” -- “Cage Wars, man!” Rich Money beams. “It ain't no kind of secret that I really idolised Mike Nero when I was getting into the business. “My last months with Philly Pro, before the Southern Class run and USPW...” He shakes his head. “I got to pretty much live the Nero TWL era in high speed. “You've probably heard a load of people say this already. I know half of us were saying it the day of the show, in the bar afterward, all that...” He shrugs. “Thing is, it's true for most of us, even if it just sounds like what you say. “I never got that final big title in Philly Pro, and it didn't matter. I got there in 2003 with Sam Strong. I'll get there here in the SWF. But even I hadn't got there in the end... “There just wasn't the time for everyone who deserved it to have the Tri-State strap. And we knew that. Couple that with the... with the sense that Horatio would've made sure we did eventually, me and Angry and Sherlock and Chris and the rest...” He grins. “Those of us who could've carried the company one way or another. You knew it was just a question of time.” -- “Yeah, it was kind of frustrating that my push just about got off the ground when the company closed,” Bryan Holmes nods. “Though I'll tell you, I never saw a better fast track to the top than the one we got. “But I couldn't complain. For one thing, two days before Neighbourhood Threat, I got in the ring in Japan with Yoshifusa Maeda for the seventh time in four months. “But this time it ended differently. This time I walked out of the match the second Philly Pro man to win the GCG World Heavyweight Championship. “The only thing that comes close is the fact I held the DaVE strap a year. The feeling was just incredible.”

Side note: I've now booked the final show. Haven't simmed it or written it up, but... I don't know that the ratings will live up to it - I suspect that ratings wise the last PPV will prove to have been the best of the bunch - but I'm looking forward to it. I hope I can make it live up to all this build...
Not to nitpick, buuuuut... Sam Strong wasn't at USPW in 2003, was he?
Y'know, you may well have a point... In the universe where Strong didn't retire from the ring in 1997 and Brian Holmes never claimed the GCG World Heavyweight Championship. ;) But yeah, my goof.

Just trigged a read flag while reading your fantastic write up there and I felt like it'd be prudent to point it out. Can't wait for the PPV btw.

I've tried the whole way through to make the future of this diary as close to the C-Verse future as I can, but recognising the changes in the gameworld as I go has been a lot of fun, and thankfully gives me a way out. I only got to TEW in 07 - the old ROF diary where I removed worker restrictions is, like, my second game ever - so as much as I cudgel my brain to recall that Sam at USPW is new, sometimes I blank on it.

Besides, the way it's worded, maybe in your universe he won a tag title with Sam Strong. Wouldn't that be somethin.

Strong didn't get to USPW until 2006 I believe. In 2005 he's the head book of TCW its not until 06 he buys out Danny and brokers a T.V Deal for USPW....so yeah it was even later than 03 before he got there. None the less good write up Stranger...

XFW World Championship Randall Hopkirk (c) w/ Grandmaster Phunk vs. Chris Rockwell Rockwell's definitely the better wrestler, but does Vibert want one of the 4 titles damaged before the unification? This may be the wrong choice, but the Holmes match coming up makes it right. PPPW Tag Team Championship Coleman & Ferdinand (c) vs. Eddie Chandler & Whistler w/ Raven Roth As important as Whistler is, I can't see him locking up in a tag team with Chandler and Raven. Even if it's not going to happen. DOG COLLAR GRUDGE MATCH Danny Patterson vs. Man Mountain Cahill w/ Herb Stately I always thought of Patterson as a guy who never quite got into America. If we're talking about setting things right for the 2008, I see the final push going to Cahill, who of course built quite a solid career going forward. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWCASE Bryan Holmes vs. winner of XFW World Championship match This is why I chose Rockwell -- can you imagine trotting Hopkirk out there again? He'd be exhausted, and anyway, he's a heel. Holmes is clearly carrying too much weight right now to lose to a tired guy, even if the tired guy IS Rockwell. British Invasion (Tommy Cornell, JD Morgan, Jack Giedroyc & Wanda Fish vs. Dangerous Family (Horatio Dangerous, Richard Dangerous, Adrian Dangerous & Kate Dangerous) Yeah, retiring workers should give someone a push on the way out... but a) the promotion is closing, and b) Dangerous can just give the push to his children. CAGE WARS Action Pack vs. Golden Age Faces beat heels, of course. Especially when the faces are clearly better. PPPW Battle Of the Champions - Title Unification Match PPPW Tri-State Champion Brent Hill vs. PPPW Maximum Champion Human Arsenal w/ Emma Chase 30 minute Iron Man Match I am so tempted to go for the draw.
I'm excited for the show, Stranger. :)
You really aren't the only one, and I've seen it. ;) I honestly do consider From the Warzone to have been the last 'pure' PPPW show, with the remainder to be thought of as a lead-in to DaVE's takeover, but with that caveat, I think this is a damn fine coda. Show goes up in around fifteen hours. Last chance to get your merch, last chance to predict.

XFW World Championship Randall Hopkirk (c) w/ Grandmaster Phunk vs. Chris Rockwell Because Rockwell is about a million times more awesome than Hopkirk. PPPW Tag Team Championship Coleman & Ferdinand (c) vs. Eddie Chandler & Whistler w/ Raven Roth They deserve it, and there's been zero build to this match, so a title change would be odd. DOG COLLAR GRUDGE MATCH Danny Patterson vs. Man Mountain Cahill w/ Herb Stately Being the last PPPW show, I think the win should go to the guy who's been in the company this whole time. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWCASE Bryan Holmes vs. winner of XFW World Championship match Can't have the new champion looking weak. British Invasion (Tommy Cornell, JD Morgan, Jack Giedroyc & Wanda Fish) vs. Dangerous Family (Horatio Dangerous, Richard Dangerous, Adrian Dangerous & Kate Dangerous) I can see Horatio being willing to take the loss. CAGE WARS Action Pack vs. Golden Age A win for the faces, can't let Hollyweird win the war. PPPW Battle Of the Champions - Title Unification Match PPPW Tri-State Champion Brent Hill vs. PPPW Maximum Champion Human Arsenal w/ Emma Chase 30 minute Iron Man Match I have to (narrowly) give the win to the former Pride of Philly. Brent has been the face of this company for most of your run, he deserves to finish as champ.
