Marlowe goes intense after a few minutes on the back foot, and for a while his sheer strength and assault does well for him. For the second time this month, however, Marlowe gets someone up for the Jackhammer and then catches sight of his former tag partner, which leads in short order to a Flash Bang and the pinfall. Steve Flash defeated Black Jack Marlowe Rating: C Flash makes a brief eye contact with Whistler, shaking his head slightly, then moves out of the ring having made his displeasure with the way he won known. Whistler, meanwhile, climbs into the ring, staring Marlowe down. “Saturday,” he says. “Let's finish this. You pick how we do it.” There's a long staredown, Marlowe radiating anger and violence in every line of his body. Whistler carefully shifts his own stance, getting ready for an assault if it happens. The crowd grow perceptibly more tense, waiting for the collision. Goldworthy climbs into the ring, whispering hastily in Marlowe's ear. The big man takes a step forward, then stops. “Sure,” he says flatly, leaving the ring. Whistler, apparently regretful, watches him go. vs. w/ Brent Hill vs. Troy Tornado w/ Professor Nero Hill seems ready to treat Tornado as an equal from the off, and the match doesn't alter that assumption at all, as Tornado and Hill seem evenly matched for much of the contest. Around six minutes in Nero makes his presence felt off the back of a Hill comeback, cutting him off while Tornado keeps Jay Fair distracted and bringing his much-feared cane into play. That doesn't last, however, as the giant Patterson storms down to the ring, muscling Nero out and holding him at bay for the rest of the match. Nero is forced simply to watch as Hill regains the advantage, eventually scoring the victory with the King of the Hill. Brent Hill defeated Troy Tornado Rating: C- The camera goes backstage, and Tommy Cornell walks into Horatio Dangerous' locker room. The two former stablemates regard each other cautiously. “Doing anything Saturday?” Cornell sneers. “'Cuz I seem to recall that kicking the crap outta you was still on my to-do list.” “You want a match,” Dangerous says bluntly. “I owe you, Harry,” Cornell's expression goes from ****y to snarling in nothing flat. “Seems to me my last match here, last time, you and me were meant to work together.” “Like we did when you beat Brent to get a title shot,” Dangerous nods. “I remember, Tommy. “I shouldn't have helped.” “Yeah, well, I'd say you made up for that last time.” Cornell's voice is nearly a whisper now, barely-controlled rage evident as he takes another step forward, now practically in Dangerous' face. “When you betrayed me, Harry. “And I owe you for that.” “You feel free to think that way,” Dangerous shrugs. “We both had a shot at the gold, I took it. You should understand that. “Anyway, you have a problem with it, that's fine. I'll see you in the ring tonight.” “And you'll walk out, assuming you can still walk, after I beat you and you'll say it was down to Johnson,” Cornell retorts. “No. Saturday, you and me get back in the warzone together and you don't get an excuse, get me?” Dangerous sighs. “That's what you want, Tommy, then you know what?” Dangerous' hands come up fast, shoving Cornell back a pace. “That's fine with me. You need some of your attitude kicking out of you. “You're too good to waste your time screwing around like this. Saturday, I'm going to show you the problems you're causing yourself.” vs. w/ Horatio Dangerous & Ricky Dale Johnson vs. Joel Bryant & Tommy Cornell w/ Herb Stately & Wanda Fish Back from commercial and the two teams are limbering up, ready to square off. Cornell and Bryant both seem to be coming on in their skills significantly, with their team accordingly looking substantially more dangerous. Dangerous and Cornell keep clashing, but neither man is anything less than savvy enough to tag out whenever they feel too deeply threatened. The shifts in the match become faster and faster, and as Azaria notes on commentary, anyone wanting to win this one is going to have to rely on skill and shock to put someone down for just long enough. Isolation simply won't cut it. So it eventually proves, as Johnson lands the Southern Justice on Bryant a hair too far away for Cornell to break it up. Horatio Dangerous & Ricky Dale Johnson defeated Joel Bryant & Tommy Cornell Rating: C- Johnson gets the ring to himself to celebrate as Dangerous is backed clear by an angry Cornell. For a few moments, the proud Texan stands tall – and then The Man In Black hits. Pistol Pete Hall strides down to the ring, stepping over the top rope. Johnson, already worn down by the frantic mean event, stands ready, and as Hall moves forward the exchange of punches is even for a moment – then Hall gets the advantage with the Cattle Rush. Barber comments that if these two want each other so badly he knows another match that'll be broadcast From The Warzone and Johnson fights back, forcing Hall out of the corner and mounting the second rope for the leaping lariat. Hall catches him in flight, though, turning it into a smooth fallaway slam. The Pistol Whip Lariat gets countered shortly afterward, Johnson coming back with the Southern Justice – an impressive feat on someone the size of Hall. Johnson bails, and as he does Hall sits up, watching. It's anyone's guess who got the better of this exchange. A strong enough show perhaps let down by its structure sees Philly Pro's audience continue to grow. Next on SWF 24/7: Learning the Ropes. Show Rating C-
Good show; particularly liked the Horatio/Cornell segment. Just really well written. :)
Tommy Cornell is an insanely awkward character to try to nail, if only because the universe is built in no small part around him. Trying to find a voice for him prior to launching my TCW diary is proving fascinating...

Chris was...” He grins. “Chris was just Chris Rockwell, period. Sure, sometimes he was called Storm, but he was Chris Rockwell. And we all figured... “Actually, I'll be honest. First time I worked Chris, I figured that was never going to work. Because Chris Rockwell was just your average face. “He wasn't, but he never got the promo time. Dangerous changed that; he sat down and talked to Chris for long enough to find the spin on it, the basic disconnect from your standard babyface hero. “At the heart of it, I think, was that Rockwell was about himself. “He fought the good fight, and if you were his buddy – like the link between him and Brent – he'd back you up. But if I attacked, say, Tom or Rick, then Chris wouldn't care. “But Horatio listened, he figured out a way to show it, and then he let Pistol Pete Hall make Chris. “What really changed for Chris there was that now the boys in the back got where he was coming from. I couldn't have cut the promos I did on him if he hadn't shown is, with the Hall angle, who he was. “And once we all knew, we were all one hundred per cent certain that Chris Rockwell was going to get over, and get over big, with somewhere. “And then you've got me and Squeeky. Now I said before that I'd never have expected Rich Money to get as far as he has. I always figured I'd use it to get to the big time, and then we'd revise things, I'd get a less weird name, and we'd do something different. Squeeky, back then, was less about the name and more about the straight edge, but the character he had is pretty much the one he uses now. “And it's the same with me. What happened there... “I finally heard this from your brother,” he grins. “Eric was the guy who finally told me. But it kind of makes sense. “Remember Jim Force?” Jerry Eisen laughs from off camera, clearly also aware of this story. “Jake Johnson,” he says. “That's what he was called until the facepaint went on.” “Right,” Money nods. “And his real name's Kevin something. Jake Johnson was all gimmick. “But Christian Faith didn't like it. And he pushed for Jim Force as a name. The gimmick came from that. “The thing is, Christian has a lot of stroke around here. Now, none of it's undeserved – SWF made him, but he's helped make the SWF right back – but he also has kind of a love for the cheesy names. The indy, kinda goofy names, no offence to the guys working these kinda gimmicks – I mean, I'm still in one, I can't talk. “And actually, these days that's unfair to the indies anyway, most of 'em. OK, now I'm rambling... “Yeah. My point was, we came to Philly Pro and we developed these characters...” He shrugs. “Some of 'em were meant to be evolved from. I think if you look at the Golden Age stuff, specifically after it stopped being Gold Guarantees, you'll see – certainly I was trying – to distance myself from the name, to do something else, and I do that every time me and Remo get to the ring now. It's just the name I use... Anyway,” he shrugs. “Me and Squeeky are who we were. And you've got this great face gimmick, and it's not what he uses in CGC, and it's not how he makes his name when he comes in, and we've got the Lobster...” Money laughs. “And he makes it work, man. That's what makes me laugh here. It made total sense. “Now Angry, I think he really might have been Tom – but when he came in, he came in heel. And Tom Gilmore the fun-loving guy... We used to debate for hours on whether you could actually ever turn that guy heel. None of us really thought you could, but it was a fun game. “So Angry he came in, and Angry he remains. “But I think... I think, ask any of us, and we learned what we needed to come here with back in Philly Pro. “We learned how to take a character and get it the hell over.”
Tommy Cornell is an insanely awkward character to try to nail, if only because the universe is built in no small part around him. Trying to find a voice for him prior to launching my TCW diary is proving fascinating...
Good show, and another really good segment with Money. Regarding Cornell, I know what you mean. Given his importance and skillset and Entertainment skills, its kind of intimidating to try to get a handle on his character. Coming up with what I feel is a solid characterization for him is one of the many reasons that I want to run a Tee-Cee-Dub diary at some point in the future. Either that, or find a way to steal Cornell for my SWF...
Pete Hall made Chris Rockwell.
So true ! That's what so many writers tend to forget, you need great heels to make great faces and vice versa. You could even argue that some real writers in some real companies are prone to fall to that mistake quite often...

I just want to take a moment here to say thank you to everyone who voted for me each and every month you did so in the Diary of the Month, thank you to everyone who nominated me... and most importantly, thank you to everyone who's followed the good men and women of Philly Pro through their ups and downs. I can tell you from experience that posting a diary without feedback isn't half so fun, and I can only imagine that posting one without seeing the pageviews go up would be horrible. However, as I write this we're coming up on 15,000 views. Up to the end of the coming show, we're sitting at 189,000+ words in the shows and kayfabe-breakers. I've requested and seen made for me seven alts for this diary, and a number more have been used. Philly Pro now sports the prettiest tag title belts in the industry as well as beautiful singles titles thanks to ReapeR and a wonderful set of logos from Kamchatka. There are a great many things I'd hoped to do with this diary, some of which we'll perhaps get into as the diary winds up, some of which (the Any Means Necessary portion) can be seen above. Sometimes Owner Goals can hurt. There are also a great many things that surprised me in this diary. I originally figured Man Mountain Cahill would go on the scrapheap the moment his contract first came up. There's at least one show that was rescued entirely by Cahill's Corner. Hell, the Idaho Punisher is still on the roster, albeit not often seen outside the dark. I'll miss the chance to do what I'd been planning. But I won't miss diaries - because the TCW diary is already prepped and should launch alongside this diary finishing up. I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again; every time the DOTM comes up, it's been an honour just to be nominated and look at the other nominees. There's some great stuff on this board. (I like to imagine that FCK's Edd Stone grew up watching Tom Gilmore in Philly Pro, and that the Rich Money in Bigpapa's diary started to hone his heelish ways in the Gold Guarantees.) That said, I can now confirm what I'd suspected; winning does feel pretty sweet. So thanks to everyone and I hope you stick with me to the end, because it's currently set to be Philly Pro's most expensive PPV ever! (Cuz what the hell, right?)

Like I said in the DOTM thread, well deserved. Humble as always, you said that even being nominated was an honour, I replied that it will taste even better when the win comes, eventually :) I'm glad if I provided anything in the diary in the terms of alts and I'm pretty sure that people will follow you into the TCW diary which should be a great one. I'm really looking forward in seeing the last shows in this diary, just to have a conclusion.
I'm glad if I provided anything in the diary in the terms of alts
A fair number of 'em, as I recall - both requested and simply alts you'd made (I've been using your younger Demon Anger, for a start), along with Bull, Nachtfalter, FlameSnoopy and J Silver... and even as I say this I have a sneaking suspicion I'm forgetting people. (Marshall, most likely.) That's the awkwardness here, actually; it's kind of difficult to thank for alts and be sure of getting everyone. The one good thing about knowing the end's coming; I can put together some kind of ending.
The one good thing about knowing the end's coming; I can put together some kind of ending.
Off-topic: That's like LOST (My favourite series ever. Ever). I'm sort of glad that the next season will be the last one, thus giving it a decisive ending, unlike the other series which just drag and drag on too long.. It's going to be an awesome season and I can't wait for it. :o Holla if you need any help with the alts concerning the next diary!
