The Masked Orange Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Say, if Tazz, or Jerry Lawler, were to retire from the announce team, what ex-wrestler do you think would be in line to replace them? Ric Flair is an obvious choice, but I would love to see someone else, as realistically Flair is now in politics.
wilts Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 First off, is this 1 of your stupid ass threads again where there is some big joke that is only known to you, or is this a genuine discussion? I hate to say it because I can't stand the guy, but I think Santino is in line for a table position 1 day. As for right this second, possibly Dustin Runnels, Kevin Nash, or possibly, POSSIBLY William Regal. Sting could work out ok, but I think he would need a bit of polishing first, and I would like to see Steve Borden rather than sting every week. I think I would actually enjoy Sean Morley, someone who has enough charisma to seem interesting, but also plenty of knowledge to avoid the Adamle syndrome. EDIT: Just realised that you specifically asked about EX wrestlers, and replacing Tazz or Lawler, so guess only WWE guys come into play. So possibly Ted Dibiase Sr could be added to the list in place of Big Sexy and The Icon. EDIT2: Just for one episode of Velocity (still around?) or some B show, I would love to see Taka, Funaki and Jerry Lawler team up at the table. Pure comedy gold!
cappyboy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 First off, is this 1 of your stupid ass threads again where there is some big joke that is only known to you, or is this a genuine discussion? I hope this is a serious discussion because it is a good topic. I hate to say it because I can't stand the guy, but I think Santino is in line for a table position 1 day. As for right this second, possibly Dustin Runnels, Kevin Nash, or possibly, POSSIBLY William Regal. He is a really smart character in sort of a comedic way and if he can keep the shtick up long enough he could certainly be announcer material one day. Dustin could be good but I don't know if I see it working in WWE. Now if he were to replace Don West in TNA or some other national promotion rose up, I could see him being very good. And it would continue the Rhodes legacy considering how much Dusty's done over the years. Nash with the right person could be awesome. Like again boot West and put Nash there. Tenay could talk about the history and technical stuff while Nash talked ring strategy and finer points that you have to have been in the ring to get. That could make for some great match commentary. Regal again i don't know. I see him more as a mentor type manager for international talent. Be they international in reality or just in character. Perhaps if a new English promotion sprung up and wanted instant cred, Regal could do the job. But otherwise I don't know I see it. Sting not a chance. Like Regal I see him more as a mentor type or perhaps as a GM type. If he were still the screaming surfer type of his prime overness-wise, I could see him in the booth. But over the last dozen years, he's worked to become more serious a persona. That to be says on-screen exec more than announcer. And I love your idea about Val. I would be especially curious to hear him call a women's match. Suppose he were calling a "hot talent" like Taylor Wilde. Would he, due to his porn star past, focus on how hot she was? Would he focus on the talented side to make up for some of his underutliziation as one himself? Or would he be able to strike the balance and put both Wilde's sex appeal and skill over? With his character history that would be a very interesting thing to see.
Hyde Hill Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Yeah Nash would be so much better then West or maybe Cornette seeing as his general manager roll has been kinda usurped by Mick and Jarret.
cappyboy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Actually, with Cornette, I'd rather see him turn heel and return to managing because he resents Foley and Jarrett usurping his role and punishing them by trying to prevent them from making champions of "pet projects" like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. In his prior managerial run, he was the scrawny ineffectual nerd with a loud mouth and louder wardrobe who tormented the faces for fun. Imagine how much more dangerous he could be as the insider done "wrong". I'd much rather see that than see Cornette anchored to a broadcast position. He'd be good there to be sure. But it would waste his real potential.

But it would waste his real potential. Done right, that could be the best thing in wrestling. Jim Cornette needs something meaningful to do. Honestly I am not too fussed who does the announcing in WWE, I just want something different. Maybe it's having the same guys in their ears every night telling them what they have to announce but I just find the whole thing very stale. And considering I have barely watched WWE in the last few years and only recently came back to take a look at it, it's pretty amazing for me to be bored by it already. A drunk off his nut Scott Hall slurring through a match would probably be my favourite option.
wilts Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 A drunk off his nut Scott Hall slurring through a match would probably be my favourite option. HAHAHA!!!!I have made the biggest boo-boo. I was going to suggest that exact thing at first, then thought, oh no, can't say that, he only died the other day, that would be disrespectful.... Then I realised he only died in my game....whoops....don't I feel like a plonker.

I wish there was a better pic of him for the real world mod as when he showed up 1 year late to final resolution he was looking to be in good shape again.
cappyboy Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Couldnt he do both kinda like Heyman during the invasion heal manager working for the MEM and CC at same time. PS Scott hall 4 Life chico! I wish there was a better pic of him for the real world mod as when he showed up 1 year late to final resolution he was looking to be in good shape again. I guess he could. Cornette has talent enough to do both. But I'd prefer he not be spread thin and someone else take West's chair. Although if it takes Cornette pulling double duty to give Captain Caffeine his pink slip, I could deal with that. And you know I hadn't thought about Corny joining up with the MEM to do this. But it could be a good first step. Maybe running the MEM "office" could be the opening stroke Cornette uses to show he's serious about his frustration with Foley and Jarrett. But he feels lost in the shuffle after a while because the MEM all being able to carry an interview leads to him feeling like a paper pusher with not enough impact. Pardon the pun. So he takes to corrupting mid-range guys (as far as the youth/veteran fight goes) like Matt Morgan, Abyss and Homicide into crushing the dreams of guys in the Front Line.
Hyde Hill Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Well he would be more of a transitional CC so to speak and then Nash can take over from him when he gets kicked out of/leaves MEM. No need to fire west just keep him around to push the online products and merch etc. Just get him of screen two ppl yelling what just happened just doesnt work. Personally I would love to see Raven do it and him get a spot in creative as well (guess who gets fired to make room for him? lol)

Personally I would love to see Raven do it and him get a spot in creative as well (guess who gets fired to make room for him? lol) You know, I could see that too. Cornette turns heel for the reasons I suggested and bullies West out of his chair threatening to have someone unaligned like a Lance Rock kick the crap out of him. So West relents and Cornette starts griping about Foley/Jarrett and using the announce chair as an excuse to scout potential clients. He finds some talent he starts to believe in. Meanwhile the MEM decides they want an announcer spot to further their goals. So Nash buys the chair off Cornette and Corny goes off and signs his talent of choice. Giving the Front Line a dual front war as they have to fight both the MEM and Camp Cornette. But just as the MEM falls by the wayside, Camp Cornette starts to gather power. So the Front Line's not able to just relax and settle into their championship destiny until Corny's dealt with as well.
Hyde Hill Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Yep and that 3 way fued if played well is worth at least a year of good storylines. Could even make it a 4 way with a split foreign camp consisting of faces and heels but working together/ being mercenaries etc. Then after MEM plays out Sting can go be an RA or retire, Nash into CC, Steiner as fitness trainer or gone and Booker and Angle keep wrestling and rubbing.
Hyde Hill Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Yeaz I wish they would finally reply to my internship request. Don´t even want a job in the wrestling part of it just want to be around it all and maybe get noticed for my ideas.
sabataged Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I have been screaming WWE should bring in Nash for awhile now. He is funny, he can be serious and with some seasoning he might turn out to be a good color man. I see HHH being the main color guy in like 10 years.
cappyboy Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 You know I could see that too. But at the same time, I'm not sure I like that idea. Considering what his gimmick has been like for most of his WWE career, I'd want to see him as on on-screen authority. Imagine the next-generation "cerebral assassin" or "Rated R Superstar" trying to pull the wool over Triple H's eyes. Ain't happening baby. No way, no how. I can just hear Trips telling the guy to look at the spine of his handbook and notice who the author is. Because he's still The Game just playing from the other end of the board now.
The Two Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 It's already been mentioned, but Nash has done guest commentary in TNA a couple of times and would be great at it. There was also a couple of months ago Samoa Joe did guest commentary during one of Nash's matches and you could tell that he could make a great commentator one day, he had that nice combination of colour and insider technical knowledge. Obviously he's not ready yet, it would need to be honed and developed, but way down the line if he wanted to, he could do it.

Funnily enough, that Impact was shown on Bravo2 over christmas (whole days of TNA) and I caught it. Now, I can't stand Joe at the best of times, but that match really killed me. I thought his commentary was awful. I know he was just a guest commentator, so he was playing his part in the story rather than giving us the run-down of the match, but the guy had no character what-so-ever, bland and boring. One that I don't think has been mentioned yet, but for entertainment value could possibly be the best, Edge....although I think Sean Morley would be better.
Mr T Jobs To Me Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I would pay $50 to watch any event that had the Iron Shiek and Kevin Nash doing commentary.
BurningHamster Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I would pay $50 to watch any event that had the Iron Shiek and Kevin Nash doing commentary. Haha that would be hilarious. Iron Shiek's insanity would make it pretty interesting. Damn it, can I change my choice? "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka, now there is a man who never made a lick of sense but was always good to listen to anyway.
AfRoMaN36 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I would pay $50 to watch any event that had the Iron Shiek and Kevin Nash doing commentary. I can only imagine Sheik.... JR: Well Sheik, Hulkamania returns for one night only as he takes on Orton. What do you think of Hulk Hogans chances? Sheik: Hulk Hogan is a FA***T!! HE IS ^&@ &^ (*#& (@)(* STUPID, GAY MUTHA ***%^&^*!!!! I HATE HULK HOGAN!!! I BREAK HIS BACK, MAKE HIM HUMBLE!!! JR: Thank you Sheik, and the match is underway.
pepper2008 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 :DThats when Sheik is not yet drunk imagine what he would say if he is wasted:D
