D.O.T.T. Update in Progress

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if there is much interest, but I reinstalled a Windows partition onto my iMac so that I could fire up D.O.T.T. on Wrestling Spirit. I suppose it is the closest I'll get to fulfilling my childhood wish to be the Magnificent Muraco when I grew up. I've tried mocking the inferiority of my wife by eating a sub sandwich while playing her in Wii Sports. But it's not quite the same.

After playing a few games of D.O.T.T., I got irked and decided to tweak a few things in the data.

Final Update

Completed Work:

* The first thing I have done is gone through the moves commentary and jazzed it up a bit. While funny, the David Crockett-esqe excitement of the mundane moves, for example, got to be a bit much after the hundredth time. I went through and added commentary lines to cut down on repetition. It helps a lot.

Just as a general example of the positive effect on the eFED commentary feature:

Don Muraco whips Pedro Morales into the ropes.

Don Muraco hit the Powerslam

Don Muraco hit the Falling Headbutt to Forehead

Magnificent Muraco grabs the head of Pedro... and SLAMS Pedro's head right into the mat!

Don Muraco grabs the top rope, leaps... Ohh, a knee right to the back of Pedro's head!

Pedro Morales has his head slammed hard into that mat!

Magnificent Muraco grabs the head of Pedro... Don Muraco is rubbing Pedro's face into the mat!! Egads!!

... And Don Muraco with a brutal Face Slam into the Mat! Pedro looks groggy out there...

Don Muraco stops to shout some abuse at some fans in the front row.

Magnificent Muraco grabs the head of Pedro... and SLAMS Pedro's head right into the mat!

I'm not sure what it is Magnificent Muraco is saying, but he's obviously slagging off Pedro!

* I went through most of the Low-Medium level technician type moves and made them In Ring Only. It irks the heck out of me playing a villain and tossing someone out of the ring, only for them to spend the entire time Arm Wringering and Side Headlocking me to death. Considering you've only got 4-5 moves out there, it is best that time isn't wasted on such trivial moves.

Even if facing a goody-goody like Bob Backlund -- if he gets tossed out of the ring, he'll get mad enough to throw more punches and kicks.

* To balance this out, I went through all of the technically minded movesets, ensuring that each one had the barest of strikes.

I still have to test it out further, but early results look good.

-----------

I still want to go through some of the wrestler attack AI and tweak them a bit. Some of the wrestlers should end up playing closer to their real-life counterparts.

When finished, I'll send the update out to whomever wants it.

I understand there probably aren't too many of us playing Wrestling Spirit 2 after all this time. Even less playing the D.O.T.T. mod for it. But for those that do, I'd like to spread the love (so to speak).

The mod does play better.

Come on, Adam... you know you want to. Wrestling Spirit 3, perhaps? Huh, huh?

:D

Can't wait for this Boon. And yup hopefully Adam will heed these words. To be fair all the Wrespi community needs to grow is an easier option for mods. Wrespi 2 is still my fave GDS game and I don't think I could contain my excitement if Wrespi 3 became reality.

More Updates:

* Finally changed the Over the Top Rope Toss to Highly illegal, rather than making it an automatic DQ. I'm not sure why I had not done so earlier, as it makes playing against the more vicious and aggressive wrestlers all that much better; if they are going to get themselves DQ'ed, at least they'll have to work at it a bit more.

- The only move that is still an Automatic DQ is the standard Heart Punch. Specialized ones - such as those used by Ox Baker & Stan Stasiak, are lowered one level to reflect their ability to mask the move from a referee.

And fireballs... heh. All fireballs are automatic DQ, no matter who throws them.

Leave it to the Sheik to spoil it for the rest of the class...

* Tweaked out a big chunk of the World Class and WWF movesets.

* Lowered the promotional tag team booking percentages for a bunch of feds.

* Tweaked a bunch of moves - in particular, I raised the Success Percentage for all of the Medium Level 'Falling...' moves; headbutts, fistdrops, falling chops, etc. In the flow of the matches those moves seemed to miss a bit too often for my tastes.

Huzzah!

<p>This is really fantastic news! I have just got back into WreSpi2, but will hold off now until this is released. I can't wait!!!!</p><p> </p><p>

EDIT: Also Boon, not wanting to sound ungrateful or anything, but did anything ever come from DOTT: Legends?</p><p> </p><p>

On the DOTT: Legends... not as such. :)

I've long lost whatever standalone Legends data I was working on.

However - and if it is any consolation, I have lowered the ages of a bunch of old-timers in the standard data to make them more playable in Superstar Mode. I think it is a lot of fun to have Bruno Sammartino running after Bob Backlund. Or Dick the Bruiser terrorizing the AWA. Or The Sheik and Bobo Brazil continuing their decades long war.

As a matter of fact, I just started a Sheik career and my very first match was a Toronto cage match against Bobo. It was great. :) I nailed him with a Sheik fireball at the very end. The move has a 99% chance of success, yet Bobo caught me trying to escape! One lucky Coco Butt later, I watch him run out of the cage and straight to the nurse's station.

It made me wish for a Post Match Ref Beat Down option. :D

Anyway, D.O.T.T. already has many of the legends movesets in place. It wouldn't take much to gear a whole mod towards a Legends set.

We'll see.

I have never had anything but a singles or tag match. To the point where I get myself DQ'd constantly because I just want to use some weapons from titme to time.

Really looking forward to this, I was trying to find the original data to wet my appetite over the weekend but couldn't, so really got an itch for this now.

Cheers

In addition to the 'legends' and their related movesets & special moves listed a post or two back...

Added:

* Old School Cowardly Heel moveset

* Heel Beg Off -- A trademark move of many old school heels: the attacker falls into a state of cowardice by falling to his knees and begging for mercy. Failure results in the hero punching the villain. Success results in the hero momentarily unsure of himself. (companion to the Heel Beg Off Sucker Move)

* Criss-Cross Shoulder Tackle -- Visually appealing routine: Attacker boldly hits the ropes, bouncing back and forth. Opponent, not to be out done, does the same. Each man criss-crossing the other until attacker shoulder tackles opponent to mat.

* Tag Sacrifice Partner -- In homage to Ole & Gene Anderson: One partner grabs the defender and - much like a turnbuckle smash, slams them face first into their own partner's head. The blow injures both the defender and the partner!

* Tag Whip into Knock Out Punch

* Tag Whip into Lariat

* Tag Double Repeated Arm Whips

* Tag Double Forearm to Gut

* Tag Double Bionic Elbow

* Heel Handshake Sneak Attack -- A trademark opening routine of many old school heels: The attacker extends his hand for a respectful pre-match handshake. Defender eventually shakes hand, then turns to walk back to the corner. As he does, attacker clubs them into corner.

* Slingshot Cross Body Block -- Americanized version of the Mexican Pescado

* Corner Power Posting -- With opponent cornered, attacker grabs victim's wrist and whips them across the ring, into the opposite corner. The force of the impact sends opponent flipping over the top turnbuckle, landing on the apron, then crashing to the outside floor.

* Mad Man Airplane Spin -- Favorite move of heelish Lew Thes: Attacker lifts opponent across their shoulders, as if to start an Airplane Spin. The weight of opponent causes attacker to stagger towards the ropes. Attacker and opponent fall over the top rope to the outside.

Huzzah.

Thanks, a lot.

I know it is strange working on updating something so old. But of all of Adam's games, Wrestling Spirit is my favorite. And of all the Death of the Territories mod sets I have done over the years, WS2: D.O.T.T. is the one I am most proud of.

I do not have the time for video games these days, but I spare an hour here and there for a game of Wrestling Spirit. The game and the D.O.T.T. data are about the only material reward I've ever gotten out of being a fan of 1970-80s wrestling.

I'm owed something!

So cool...

Started a career with Harley Race (yeah, yeah - some challenge) to do some testing. Race starts with 3 contracts: Mid Atlantic (where he is NWA World Champ), Central States (his home base), and All Japan.

To make it more interesting (and to replicate the traveling champ of old), I made a Socko Rule that if I lose clean anywhere outside of Mid Atlantic, I'll just resign from that promotion; thereby stripping myself of the NWA title.

After two weeks (give or take), I resign from All Japan in order to work one of the other NWA promotions. Fight that promotion's main heroes, then move on. Rinse and Repeat until I lose.

I'm a little over a month into the game. Here are all of the 'title defenses':

* vs. Ric Flair (official title bout, as it was a MACW booking)

* vs. Terry Funk (Central States)

* vs. Giant Baba (All Japan)

* vs. Wahoo McDaniel (MACW)

* vs. Terry Funk (CS)

* vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (AJPW)

* vs. Johnny Valentine (MACW)

* vs. Ricky Steamboat (MACW)

* vs. Ox Baker (CS)

* vs. Lou Thesz (St. Louis Wrestling Club)

* vs. Ric Flair (MACW)

* vs. Bulldog Bob Brown (CS)

* vs. Jack Brisco (MACW)

* vs. Dick Murdoch (CS)

* vs. David Von Erich (St. Louis)

It is a complete blast.

I had to get myself DQ'ed a couple of times to save the title, but in general Race is one bad mutha. :)

For example, the Baba match: For the first ten minutes, Baba simply destroyed Race; at one point Race was at Low energy and Baba was still at High! But I eventually wore the freak down and put him away with the Indian Deathlock. Hah! Take that you puro puppets!!

:D

Seriously, I wasn't too sure about adding these older guys in their primes (skills-wise; not necessarily health-wise). But it's ending up pretty cool.

It's interesting to see the Valentines teaming together. Or Johnny Powers and the Sheik battling it out. Or even Verne freaking Gagne beating Bockwinkel for the AWA World Title. The heathen...
