DARK MATCH

Amazing Red defeated Petey Williams in 8:36 by pinfall with a Code Red. The two didn't click at all. D-

Explosion

Tuesday, week 1, November 2004

Chase Family Arena, Birmingham, AL.

Jeff Jarrett is backstage with Jerry Lynn and Steve Corino. He acknowledges that Jerry is upset that Jarrett has given Teddy Hart a title shot at Pain Game. Jarrett wants to teach that sneaky little kid a lesson. However, he reassures Lynn by telling him he will keep his end of the bargain for Lynn having Jarrett's back at Halloween Havoc and Lynn will get his title shot before the Pain Game pay per view. Lynn seems satisfied with this and leaves. Jarrett turns his attention to Corino. He tells Corino that he is worried about Sting. Sting seems to be ultra focused on knocking Jarrett of the top of TNA and 'changing TNA for the better'. None of Jarrett's World Order have come close to stopping Sting yet, and they don't seem to be worthy of being in his World Order. He tells Corino he must stop Sting otherwise Sting will get his shot at him. Corino tells Jarrett that he will. C

Briscoe Brothers v Ring Wizards

The Briscoes have stepped up to another level and they are beginning to look a threat in the tag team division, although this match itself was distinctly average. Briscoes win in 8:05 when Jay Briscoe defeated Ken Anderson by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. D

Harley Race marches to the ring, and calls out Scott Steiner. The new National Champion appears and asks Race what the hell he wants with the Big Bad Booty Daddy as he has some ladies to get down with. Race tells Steiner that although Abyss is not here tonight, Race is challenging Steiner on Abyss' behalf for the National Championship at Pain Game. Steiner mulls it over for a moment and tells Race he'll work all over Abyss at Pain Game and then work over some bitches in the back afterwards. C+

Doug Williams v Trent Acid

A good match between a TNA established wrestler (a former tag team champion at that) and one of it's emerging stars. Acid showed he has potential but experience and savvy won the day here as Doug beats Trent in 9:33 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. C-

Juventud Guerrera and American Dragon share intense looks as they sign a contract for the X Division Championship match at Pain Game between the two. C

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

Two men who are looking to break through in TNA face off in an intriguing match that sadly suggests the two may not be able to step up to the top level in TNA. Daniels pulls a fast one in an even match by having his feet on the ropes, enabling him to win in 10:52 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. D+

A video plays showing Spanish Announce Team's rise in TNA and Tag Team Championship win at Halloween Havoc. E+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Spanish Announce Team v Chico & The Man

SAT make their first defence, and a comfortable one as they easily defeat one of TNA's poorer teams in a mediocre match in 8:06 when Joel Maximo defeated Matt Cappotelli by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. Spanish Announce Team make defence number 1 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

AJ Styles comes out for his match, and makes an open challenge for Pain Game for anybody in TNA to try and defeat him. AJ tells the fans he feels he is being overlooked of late and that he has to prove himself again. AJ says that he thinks this is because Jarrett is in charge. C-

AJ Styles v Frank

AJ showed how good he is against the former Tag Team champion by showing his wares and showing he doesn't need to prove himself to anybody. AJ picks up a stylish victory in 12:48 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C

Sting is backstage in the bowels of the arena. He tells Jarrett that he only has one step to go before he gets to dispose of Jarrett and allow TNA to grow and move in the right direction. He tells Corino that he will fall the same way as the rest of Jarrett's World Order and there is no point him thinking otherwise as it simply won't happen. C+

Ken Shamrock & Scott Steiner v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett & Steve Corino

A good quality match as you would expect between four stalwarts of wrestling. Both teams show cohesiveness, which is a little surprising in the case of Shamrock and Steiner. The match tos and fros back and forth with all four men hitting their signature moves. At the end of the match, Abyss appears and behind Mark Johnson's back he nails Scott Steiner. This enables Jarrett to pick up the winning fall in 17:40 when 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett defeated Scott Steiner by pinfall with a handful of tights. C+

Ken Shamrock is backstage following his defeat moments ago. He is clearly frustrated with how the past month has gone for him. He then bumps into Daniels, who has no sympathy for him at all, telling Shamrock he is past it and people like Daniels are the future of TNA. Shamrock tells Daniels to prove it, and Daniels tells Shamrock he will at Pain Game. C-

Jerry Lynn v Teddy Hart

Another good match between an old hand and a wrestler who could be as big as he wants to be. The match is a quality old school affair, a throwback twenty, thirty years to when wrestling was about wrestling. Lynn looks like he has Hart for the taking when Hart surprises Lynn in 22:09 by pinfall with a quick roll up. C+

DARK MATCH

Seaman Stains defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir in 10:47 by pinfall with a Tidal Wave. C-

Explosion

Tuesday, week 2, November 2004

J.S. Dorton Arena, Raleigh, NC.

We are backstage where Sting and Jeff Jarrett have come face to face for the very first time in TNA. Both are wary about what the other might do and tensions are high. Sting details his thoughts about Jarrett only caring for himself and his buddies and that he is taking TNA in completely the wrong direction. Shockingly, rather than backlash at Sting, Jarrett instead offers an olive branch and a place in his World Order to Jarrett. Sting tells Jarrett that there is as much chance that he will go to WWF than join Jarrett's World Order and that if Jarrett won't listen to Sting, he'll have to show him at Christmas Feast, after he has defeated Corino at Pain Game. Sting leaves by telling Jarrett he hopes he beats Teddy Hart at Pain Game. C+

Cocky Connection v Death Dealers

Homicide and Suicide come out to their new tag team name and Homicide particularly impresses in this one. Devine meanwhile may as well not been there, he was that bad. Death Dealers prevail with some ease in 7:47 when Suicide defeated Jimmy Rave by pinfall with a Suicide Solution. D+

Spanish Announce Team are backstage where they are discussing strategy regarding their Pain Game title defence against Spank Wang... that is until they see the camera and chase the cameraman off. C

Abyss (with Harley Race) v Trent Acid

Abyss dominated a match that looked disjointed, winning in 3:45 by pinfall with The Black Hole. D

Harley Race gets in the ring following the match and tells Scott Steiner that is what he has to look forward to at Pain Game and that Abyss will take his belt from him. C

Chico & The Man v Ring Wizards

Quackenbush looked good in this match... which was the only good thing about the match. As if by magic the Wizards win in 8:49 when Mike Quackenbush defeated Rocky Romero by pinfall with an As If By Magic. The write up is as bad as the match. D

Quackenbush goes quackers after the match, hugging everybody he can get his hands on. C

American Dragon v Super Crazy

Despite the two looking a little awkward together, they put on a really good mostly lucha libre style match. Dragon continues his fine form of late following the X Division six way and shows Juventud Guerrera he will be a serious threat to his title by defeating one of Juvi's long time rivals. He won in 14:31 by submission with an Arms Across America. C+

A video plays hyping Juventud Guerrera vs. Mystery and recapping Juvi's title win over Mystery at Halloween Havoc. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Juventud Guerrera (champion) v Mystery

A very good match, one that eclipses the match that preceeded with both men putting in a performance they can be pleased with. Mystery tried his heart out (not that you can see it under his all black full body outfit) but after several near falls he succumbed to the champion in 15:48 by pinfall with a Juvi Driver. Juventud Guerrera makes defence number 1 of his TNA X Division title. The X Division looks to have a bright future. B-

Backstage, American Dragon is seen watching Juventud Guerrera in his previous match, on a monitor. C

Jerry Lynn v Ron Killings

Despite the match drifting a little and a slight lack of psychology, this was another very good match, one that also showcased the strength in depth that TNA possesses in it's talent at the moment. Lynn has been hot since returning to TNA, while Killings has been struggling a little, although he has been facing high calibre opponents such as Lynn and previously Abyss. Lynn continues his strong run by overcoming Killings in 16:52 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. B-

AJ Styles comes out following the match and states that he is surprised that nobody has answered his open challenge for Pain Game. He tells the TNA locker room he is open to any opponent as he is confident he can beat anybody. C+

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Scott Steiner (champion) v Steve Corino

A very good edition of Explosion finishes with the first straight match of significant quality in the second title rematch from Halloween Havoc. Just like Juvi and Mystery earlier, Steiner and Corino both upped their game from their previous match and the crowd were thoroughly entertained throughout. The challenger came close, and even a brief distraction from Harley Race didn't stop Steiner from retaining in 22:43 by submission with a Steiner Recliner. Scott Steiner makes defence number 1 of his TNA National title. B-

Show rating: C+

Show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

DARK MATCH

Doug Williams defeated American Dragon in 10:36 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. C+

Explosion

Tuesday, week 3, November 2004

Arena at Gwinnett Center, Duluth, GA.

Jeff Jarrett is in his office, where he announces that Sunday's World Championship match between he and Teddy Hart at Pain Game will be a submission match. Further more, Jarrett feels that Hart needs some practice, so he puts him in a submission match tonight against Ron Killings. Before Jarrett can continue, Jerry Lynn appears in front of the desk. He tells Jarrett that he hopes he hasn't forgotten about his title shot tonight. He had better worry more about Lynn than about Hart. Jarrett tells Lynn that he knows what to do tonight, put up a good fight so Jarrett can teach the young upstart a lesson at Pain Game. Lynn tells Jarrett that wasn't the deal, in return for him helping Jarrett at Halloween Havoc, Lynn got a one on one title shot. Lynn tells Jarrett he'll see him in the ring tonight as he leaves. Jarrett has a worried look on his face. C+

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

Guest commentator: Ken Shamrock

Shamrock remarks on commentary that he will be Daniels' toughest ever opponent and while he can see Daniels has ability and promise, he questions if he is yet good enough to beat Shamrock. Daniels is good enough to beat The Alpha Male though, although he uses short handed measures to do so in a match that was watchable at best. The end came in 9:27 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. D+

Cameras pan backstage where Carlito is seen beating on Joel Maximo. Jose Maximo quickly comes to his aid though and runs Carlito off. This clearly riles the Maximos. Was this wise by Carlito prior to their title rematch tonight? C

Sexual Standouts v Spank Wang

Mystery looked good in a very ordinary match. Yang got little reaction from the crowd, but his team gained momentum into their possible Tag Team Championship match by winning against Sexual Standouts in 7:33 when Spanky defeated Seaman Stains by pinfall with an Oooo I Say! D+

'Cowboy' James Storm is seen drunk backstage, wandering into things and shouting for no apparent reason other than being drunk. Robert Roode is with him, despairing and urging him to get coffee. B-

AJ Styles v Frank

AJ dominated a match that lacked drama and psychology, but was still an improvement on the earlier two matches. He overcame Frank Frank in 5:41 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C-

Jeff Jarrett is with Steve Corino and voices his concerns about Sting, saying he has not stopped yet on his road to Jarrett. He needs Corino to beat him on Sunday otherwise Jarrett runs the risk of both losing the title and control of TNA to the man he least wants to have both. He pleads with Corino to do whatever it takes. Corino is only to happy to do so. The camera spots Sting lurking in the shadows, having listened to every word. C+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Spanish Announce Team (champions) v Caribbean Cool

A rematch from Halloween Havoc suffered as these teams have faced off a fair few times of late and this match offered nothing new from the previous encounters. SAT defend their titles and will face Spank Wang on Sunday as in 11:36 Joel Maximo defeated Colt Cabana by pinfall after using a foreign object. Spanish Announce Team make defence number 2 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

Backstage and a number of unidentified sexy ladies are looking for Mystery... who seems to have disappeared completely from the arena. Mystery has left the ladies? C-

Submission Match

Teddy Hart v Ron Killings

This match was a disappointment, as Teddy Hart has been putting in some good performances since joining TNA and Ron Killings is supposed to be a reliable performer. Teddy wins in 9:55 following a sharpshooter, but on this evidence Jarrett will have no trouble defending on Sunday... if he beats Lynn tonight. D

AJ Styles then comes back to the ring. He has a microphone and questions why after three weeks, still nobody has answered his open challenge for Pain Game. He is wondering if anybody in the locker room thinks they can beat him, and that he might have to find his own opponent if nobody is forthcoming. C+

Sting & Scott Steiner v Abyss (with Harley Race) & Steve Corino

The best match of the night so far as three erstwhile combatants and TNA's monster do battle in a big tag match. Questions are asked but nothing gets answered prior to Pain Game as no quarter is given from either side. Corino tries attacking Sting with his own baseball bat, but this merely sparks a wild four man brawl that Garry Morere can't control, so he calls for a double disqualification in 15:39. C

Following the match, Harley Race orders Abyss to blindside Scott Steiner. He does so, Steiner is caught completely off guard while Sting and Corino are fighting through the crowd. Race sets a table up in the ring and Abyss chokeslams Steiner through the table. Abyss stands over Steiner while Race bad mouths him and tells him Abyss will take the title on Sunday. C+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Jerry Lynn

Guest commentator: Teddy Hart

A very good match, as was somewhat expected. Lynn was true to his word and gave Jarrett his all, hitting a cradle piledriver only for Jarrett to escape by barely draping his foot on the bottom rope. Jarrett rolled out to regroup and mounted a comeback, eventually managing to lock in the figure four leg lock in 26:36 and winning by submission. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 11 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title and Lynn gives Jarrett his title in a show of respect. B-

Following the match, Hart gets in the ring. Lynn warns Jarrett Hart is approaching, so Jarrett attacks Hart as he enters the ring. Then the lights go out. When they come back on, Jarrett is leaning against the ropes, looking straight at Sting who is standing center ring, pointing his baseball bat at him. Jarrett runs for higher ground as Sting stares a hole through him. B-

'THE ROAD TO JARRETT PART SIX'

Sting v Steve Corino (C-)

This could be the match of the night. Both of these guys usually turn in good matches and I would expect both the elevate their game in this one. Sting pays the toll and keeps on moving on the Tollroad to Jarrett

AJ STYLES' OPEN CHALLENGE

AJ Styles v ? (B-)

always hard to pick against the always tough ?, but if anyone can beat ? it is AJ Styles

Ken Shamrock v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels (C-)

Shamrock still feeling effects of the JWO beatdowns. Daniels pulls the upset.

Briscoe Brothers v Caribbean Cool (D-)

Has CC run its course? is there tension in this team? Is there an immenent break-up? maybe not, but Briscoe Brothers have been the hotter team.

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Frank (E)

Death Dealers v Sexual Standouts (D)

death vs sex, stay tuned for the next episode of CSI :D teamwork and experience of the Sexual Standouts will help them overcome the skills of the new team. This could be an excellent match. Would expect Death Dealers to be a good team and title contender in a few months.

DARK MATCH

Mike Quackenbush defeated Rocky Romero and Sheik Abdul Bashir in 10:50 when Mike Quackenbush defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir by pinfall with a Quackendriver. C+

Pain Game 2004

Sunday, week 3, November 2004

Manley Basketball Arena, Syracuse, NY.

We see Teddy Hart and Jeff Jarrett backstage. The two get into a heated argument with Jarrett telling Hart he has no morals due to turning his back on his deal to help Jarrett at Halloween Havoc. Hart tells Jarrett that is rich coming from him, who looks after nobody but himself. Jarrett questions Hart's attitude and professionalism, and tells him he will meet him in the ring tonight and teach him a lesson. B-

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Frank

An entertaining opening match helped by the two sharing some great chemistry. Frank begins to get the upperhand by using his superior speed by evading Monty's power attacks, but he goes to the well once to often, Monty catches him and mauls him, ending in 8:09 by pinfall with The Pounce. C

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v MsChif

The best ladies match in TNA for a long time... though that doesn't necessary mean it's a good thing. At least this one wasn't a stinker as Amy proves she's a class above the rest of the TNA ladies in 4:31 by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. Amy Dumas makes defence number 9 of her TNA Ladies title. D-

Ken Shamrock is seen backstage preparing for his match later against Christopher Daniels... though not in a conventional way as he is seen punching walls and headbutting lockers. C

Death Dealers v Sexual Standouts

Olympia predicted this would be an excellent match. While it wasn't of that quality, it was certainly a good one where Homicide in particular shone and it showed their is life and depth in TNA's tag team division. No sign of any CSI though, although a good back and forth match meant the losers had some claim that the loss was criminal. The match is killed off in 9:50 when Suicide defeated Mystery by pinfall with a Suicide Solution. C+

Briscoe Brothers v Caribbean Cool

Another quality tag team match, which bodes very well for TNA's tag division future. Mark Briscoe stepped up to the plate here and stood out in a match where his opponents are more established. There is clearly trouble in paradise though as more dissension since losing the tag team titles as another disagreement between Carlito and Colt Cabana lead to another defeat in 11:29 when Mark Briscoe defeated Carlito by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. Carlito and Colt have another heated exchange following the match. C+

A video plays hyping Juventud Guerrera vs. American Dragon, recapping Juventud's title win and defence against Mystery and American Dragon earning the title match by winning the six way at Halloween Havoc. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Juventud Guerrera (champion) v American Dragon

A very good match, one of the best in TNA's four year history. Both men showed their full compliment of skills and produced some very good and in spells excellent aerial based wrestling. Dragon has Juvi set up to win his first title in TNA, only for Juvi to kick out of two frog splashes. Juvi reaches deep down, mounts a comeback and sneaks it in 15:53 by pinfall with a Juvi Driver. Juventud Guerrera makes defence number 2 of his TNA X Division title and both men come out of the match with a great deal of credit. B

Spanish Announce Team attack Spanky backstage, and leave him down and out. And it's the tag team titles next... C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Spanish Announce Team (champions) v Spank Wang

Spanky clearly was feeling the effects of the pre-match attack, but he and Jose Maximo put in good performances here. Sadly, it didn't keep up to the standard of the previous tag team matches. SAT's strategy of taking out Spanky prior to the match clearly pays off as he is put away in 9:11 when Jose Maximo defeated Spanky by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. Spanish Announce Team make defence number 3 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D+

Ken Shamrock v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

Pain Game has been a good show so far and this continues by a good match put on between two contrasting wrestlers. Daniels tries to use his aerial ability to combat Shamrock's mat and submission wrestling. Daniels showed a lot of promise in this match and it's almost certain his days will come in the future in TNA, but one of the best wrestlers around at the moment is too much for him as Shamrock gets the victory in 10:46 by submission with an Ankle Lock. C

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett is backstage, psyching up Steve Corino for his upcoming match against Sting. It's clear Corino is as ready as he will ever be for this, as he is the last man blocking Sting from Jarrett. C

'The Road to Jarrett Part Six'

Sting v Steve Corino

Another very good match, on a par with the earlier X Division title match but in a completely different way. Jarrett's pre match pep talk clearly worked on Corino as he throws everything at Sting from the get go, who kicks out of not one but two Old School Expulsions. Sting clearly is as motivated as Corino and is prepared to fight to the death for his cause and beliefs. He gets on top, his the Stinger Splash and Scorpion Deathdrop, which sets up the win in 15:46 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. Sting will get Jarrett at Christmas Feast. Will it be for the title as well as control of TNA? B

Harley Race is backstage, standing alongside his client Abyss. He warns Scott Steiner that he faces losing his National Championship in a few short minutes. C

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Scott Steiner (champion) v Abyss (with Harley Race)

Another very good match, not quite as good as the matches earlier, but arguably better than most expected. Race has got Abyss on the right lines, as he proves to be far more than a handful for Steiner, who can't get to showboat as usual - Abyss never lets him. A Black Hole Slam looks to have won Abyss the title, but Steiner gets his foot on the ropes. Abyss becomes frustrated, despite Race's attempts to calm him down from ringside. His frustrations gets the better of him, allows Steiner to get back into the match and eventually keep his title in 13:17 by submission with a Steiner Recliner. Scott Steiner makes defence number 2 of his TNA National title. B-

AJ Styles' Open Challenge

AJ comes down to the ring, telling everybody how annoyed he is that nobody appears to have answered his open challenge, and is ready to leave the ring... C+

...but backstage, Jerry Lynn is seen walking to the ring... B-

AJ Styles v Jerry Lynn

A very good night of wrestling? Yes. Can the bar be raised even higher? Yes. This was only just short of excellent, as Styles and Lynn put on the best match yet seen in TNA, have everybody on the edge of their seat all through the match and earn a standing ovation by the 8000+ crowd by the end of it. AJ eyes lit up when Lynn walked out, knowing he had a worthy opponent for his open challenge. Lynn came ready to wrestle, looking to make up for his near miss against Jeff Jarrett at Explosion this past Wednesday. The two put on a clinic, with move, counter move, hold, counter hold and aerial moves that only the likes of AJ and Lynn can produce. TNA's mix of young, hungry wrestlers loaded with talent with old hands who still produce the mix looks like TNA has a very bright future. AJ's future is equally bright, especially after pulling off the win in 20:37 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. How can Jarrett & Hart top this? B+

As we wait for the match between 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett and Teddy Hart to commence, Don West and Tenay run us through the Tale Of The Tape. E+

Teddy Hart makes his way out to the ring for the biggest match of his career. B

The champion then makes his way to the ring. B-

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

SUBMISSION MATCH

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Teddy Hart

It was a good match, but given the very high standard of three previous bouts, the main event was a little disappointing. Hart came out cockily and wrestled cockily. He has the right to be. His biggest ever match and he put in a very good performance. He troubled Jarrett constantly. He has Jarrett in jeopardly constantly as he lives up to the Hart family name and puts on a very good display of submission wrestling. Jarrett's plan of utilising his submission arsenal, in particularly the figure four, looks to be unwinding and the title is under serious threat. Hart locks in the Sharpshooter. Surely Hart is about to walk into TNA and in the space of a couple of months win the title..? The arena blacks out. For a full twenty seconds. The crowd are beside themselves while Tenay nearly explodes on commentary with disbelief. The lights comeback on. Jarrett looks dazed... but Teddy Hart is prone on the mat, seemingly knocked out. Jarrett locks on the figure four and this is academic. Hart can't even tap out so Mark Johnson, somewhat confused himself, is forced to call for the bell in 17:4. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 12 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C+

The lights go off again. This time for a much shorter time. When the lights come back on, Sting is standing face to face with Jarrett, with his bat pointing straight into his chest. Did Sting just help Jarrett keep the title?! B-
