Wed Week 4 April 2010

Held at the Palacio de Lucha Ciudad Mexico Att: 754

Pre Show:

The Shadow Warriors def Giant Brody & Darkness Warrior in 5:26 by two straight falls.

Match Rating F+

This was mostly to give the Canos a cheap win and the two big lugs some work. Judging by the lack of crowd enthusiasm I rightly put this in a warm up slot before the main show.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Championa-1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Slayyer.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/HugoGarrido.jpg

A pre taped segment airs for the crowd showing the MHW Global Champion Championa Jr coming up to Slayyer and Hugo Garrido. He states that these ‘Rudos Americanos’ have become a problem, and as true sons of Mexico, they needed to join forces to fight off these foreign invaders. Championa states that alone they are vulnerable, but together they will be a force the American wrestlers can not stand against. Slayyer and Hugo Garrido whisper to each other for a moment , then hold out their hands and shake the outstretched hand of Championa Jr, agreeing to ally with each other.

Rating E

Since the crowd was very ‘vocal’ about wanting a fairly continuous stream of in ring action, and Championa was of the same opinion,I decided that I would put some of the ‘background’ out of ring segments in the beginning. This way I could still set up feuds, matches and events and not interrupt the flow of the show.

Of course there would be some things that would still occur during the main show as they needed to be done at a certain time for the effect.

Main Show:

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/VerdugoEstupendo_alt.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/PrimalRage.jpg

Verdugo Estupendo def Primal Rage in 5:11 by two straight falls.

Match Rating E+

Rebuilding Verdugo back up with some dominating wins over lesser competition.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElBestiaPurpura.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElToroDeOro.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/DanielCano.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JavierCano.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/SabraMan-1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Pyromaniac.jpg

Purple & Gold def The Shadow Warriors & Sabra Man Jr & Pyromaniac in 7:32 to defend the MHW Tag Championships.

Match Rating E-

Not an exciting match as the third team didn’t really add anything to the mix, other than to be the first ones gone. This was mostly to help build up the rivalry a little more before a big showdown match between the two main teams.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/HugoGarrido.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JesusChavez_alt.jpg

Hugo Garrido def Jesus Chavez in 7:58 by two straight falls.

Match Rating D-

An okay match that allows Garrido to regain some momentum and earn a spot in next month’s MHW National championship tournament.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/GenioVerde.jpg

A man in a green hat and mask walks out to the ring and grabs a microphone. The crowd gasps in shock as they recognize the man as MPWF Champion Genio Verde!!

Rating E+

Not as big a reaction as I hoped for, but still it had to come as a surprise that we now have both OLLIE and MPWF’s world champions on our roster. With those companies afraid of being overshadowed completely by SOTBPW they had quickly agreed to working agreements with us, and now I was reaping the benefits, in ways they probably didn’t expect.

Genio Verde then speaks in Spanish saying “ I have heard that these ‘Rudos Americanos’ have come to this great country of Mexico and insulted the heritage, the pride, and the skill of the Mexican wrestlers and the Mexican people! As a proud World Champion of Mexico, I could no longer stand by and watch this happen! So I have come to MHW to take a stand and make clear to everyone who the real superior ones are!”

Rating E+

Again not as good a reaction as I wanted, but this was something that needed to be done during the live show for maximum effect.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/GenioVerde.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Nomad_alt1.jpg

Genio Verde def Nomad in 7:51 by two straight falls.

Match Rating E+

Decent debut match, with Nomad doing his job of making the new addition to the roster look strong as Genio Verde makes a successful debut in MHW.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Slayyer.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Championa-1.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/TheCannonballKid-1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MaskedPatriot.jpg

Slayyer & Championa Jr def The Cannonball Kid & Masked Patriot in 13:13 by two straight falls.

Match Rating D-

The Sons of Mexico alliance gets off to a good start as they triumph in a hard fought match against the pairing of the Rudos Americanos Cannonball Kid and Masked Patriot. This match probably would have come off better if both Slayyer and Masked Patriot had been on their game tonight. But for whatever reason, both just weren’t ‘feeling it’ and the action suffered a little.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackAvatar.jpg w/ http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Buttercup.jpg

The leader of the Rudos Americanos , David Mack, comes out, accompanied by Buttercup, and carrying his usual plastic bottled watter. He grabs a microphone and says “ Mexican Beast , what happened last month is your fault, not mine! You were trying to take something that belongs to me! That no good thieving bastard Championa Jr cheated to get that Global title, and no one, especially not one of you third rate Mexican wrestlers, is going to stop me from being the one who takes it back! Just so I make myself clear, I will be the one who defeats that paper champion ,takes the MHW Global title and proves the superiority of the American wrestlers, nation and people. Anyone who gets in my way will get destroyed. Mexican Beast, you got in my way, and tonight, in the cage match you stupidly requested, I will show you the true meaning of ‘hardcore’! “

Rating C-

The crowds deepening hatred of me overcomes their usual disdain of non wrestling moments and they greet me with an overwhelming chorus of boos and catcalls.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackAvatar.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MexicanBeast.jpg

David Mack defs Mexican Beast in 17:32 by two falls to one in a steel cage lucha match.

Match Rating C

Mexican Beast, fired up and looking for revenge after the devastating chair shot he suffered the previous month, comes roaring out at the bell and delivers a barrage of physical punishment to David Mack, overwhelming his opponent with sheer power and fury. The onslaught culminates in a powerful body slam that puts Mack down long enough for the three count as Mexican Beast takes the first fall. After the 30 sec rest period, Mexican Beast looks to put the match away, but Mack uses some underhanded tactic and rakes the eyes of Mexican Beast to gain the advantage. He takes Beast down to the mat to neutralize his power edge and begins softening up Beast up by working over his back and legs. This assault continues for several minutes as Mexican Beast tries to rally, but comes up short time and again as Mack uses any trick he can to get the bigger man back on the ground and continue the punishment. Mack finally applies an STF hold and Beast has no choice but to tap, evening the falls up. Not wanting to be shown up by his American opponent, Mexican Beast comes out of the rest period with a second wind and takes the fight to Mack, once again delivering a powerful physical assault. Mexican Beast looks to be in charge when he decides to inflict some more punishment and whips Mack against the cage wall. Mexican Beast then charges, attempting to spear Mack against the unforgiving steel, but Mack slips aside, and Beast hit’s the cage wall at full speed, staggering him backwards and momentarily stunning him. At this moment, Mack’s valet, Buttercup, grabs a steel pipe from under the ring and slides it into the cage! Mack grabs the pipe, winds up and swings it across the back of Mexican Beast, dropping him to the mat! Mack throws the pipe to the side, picks up Beast, and then delivers a Future Shock for the pinfall and win.

An excellent main event and hopefully brings up what had been an average show so far. But things weren’t over as….

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/GenioVerde.jpg

David Mack goes over to grab the pipe and continue his assault on Mexican Beast as the cage is raised. But, suddenly out of the back come Genio Verde holding a steel chair. Verde slides into the cage and menaces Mack, who drops the pipe and begins backing away from the chair wielding luchador as Mexican Beast slowly makes his way back to his feet. Mexican Beast stands behind Genio Verde and urges him to hit Mack with the chair and deliver the same punishment Mack had given him the month before. Verde agrees and lifts the chair over his head as Mack cowers against the ring ropes….. Only to swing around and bend the chair over Mexican Beast’s head in a crushing blow that drops Mexican Beast like a stone!!

As the crowd sits in stunned silence at the MPWF World Champion’s actions, David Mack quits his cowering act in the ring, widens his mouth in a big smile and shakes the hand of Genio Verde! Verde then pulls out a folded American flag from under his jacket, and he and Mack unfold it and cover up the unconscious body of Mexican Beast with it. Both men then stand over the flag covered body of Beast with arms raised as the crowd rains down boos on them.

Rating E

While as usual it wasn’t the strong response I would have liked, and probably gotten in CGC or NYCW for this segment, it was necessary for storyline purposes and shock value. Genio Verde, for those that didn’t know, is actually an American who came to Mexico to wrestle when he couldn’t get a break in America and found success as a heel in MPWF. Thus he is a perfect fit for our main storyline.

Overall Show D+

The Main event definitely helped to make this a good show and bring us back to the level of our first two shows. With the official formation of the ‘Sons of Mexico’ I now have both sides of the main storyline, them and the ‘Rudos Americanos’ established, and some of the recent additions have added to the name power of our roster. Coming up next will be a tournament to fill our midcard belt, the National title, and after that is something I did with success in NYCW. If I can find a way to balance the need for extra storyline stuff with the fans and the boss’s preference for mostly in ring action, then I think we can get to the next level and really compete with MPWF and OLLIE on an even playing field.

OOC: So what do you think so far? I admit this has been somewhat challenging for me as this is a lot different from booking NYCW or CGC. This is almost like booking a pure promotion from the standpoint of the fans not wanting non wrestling segments. And also, since I don’t have as much time as I used to, I am pretty much doing this on the fly, I.e. I write up the shows and post them pretty much right after they happen.

So I am curious if this is working for the readers, or if it comes off as lacking compared to my other works. Any opinions, positive or negative are welcomed. If you like it, if you don’t , what you think of the storylines or backstory, what you’d like to see more of or less of. All feedback is welcome.

I like it so far Mack. Maybe put your match/angle ratio to 80/20 that should elimenate the dumping on segments.

That is part of the challenge of booking this time. The owner WONT let me change teh match ratio, not even that much. I could change the other product settings quite a bit, but he wouldn't let me move the match ratios at all.

that's just it, even on the original settings, he wouldnt let me change the match ratio. that was the first thing I tried as I wanted a 70/30 originally since I wanted a more old ECW feel.

But no go. So I get to work around it, like a real booker would :D

well playing around with the settings, if I got rid of daredevil and moved the low stuff to none, then I could change the match ratios, but then it doesn't match my vision of what the product should be. So I will live with the 90% matches and see how the product works over a longer haul. If it proves to be a major stumbling block I can always tinker with it later.

The last show was a good one to hopefully get us back on track to getting bigger and better in the future. I had some ideas for the next couple months, with the tournament for the National title uppermost for the next show. Despite the recent additions to the roster, and utilizing everyone on the show, we were still profitable for the month, although we only cleared around $1K profit. I think we had enough new talents now that we could stand pat for a bit.

Unsurprisingly , we were still losing ground to OLLIE and MPWF in the West Central and South East Mexico markets, especially as we had no visibility there. But that was a problem to deal with in the future.

For now we just had to stay competitive in the Northern Mexico area till we could prove our viability to the networks and get our own show. With the monthly business settled, I took a look around the rest of Mexico, CGC, and the wrestling world….

Eye on Mexico:

SOTBPW: Still trying to break into the SW USA market, they held their major show in that region for a second straight month, selling out the 5000 seat Gorski Ballroom. It was another good show, headlined by the rematch between Blood Raven & Pablo Rodriguez for the Campeon de Mundo title Blood Raven had won the month before. In what was easily the match of the night, Blood Raven retained the title.

( Show Rating : C+ Main Event, & MOTN Rating : B )

Their tv shows were mostly filling 5000 seat venues in the Northern and SE regions of Mexico and doing solid, with ratings holding steady ion the 0.69-0.73 range.

SOTBPW had no roster changes, but they did extend the contracts of two of their biggest stars Axxis Jr and El Demonio.

MPWF: MPWF held their main show in Tijuana, where they sold out the 2000 seat National Arena. It was a good show over all with the main event and match of the night being the tag team battle of Team Crime defeating Cique Jr & Angel De Mexico.

(Show Rating : C Main Event & MOTN Rating : C+ )

Hexx, Huracan Sandoval Jr and Gabriela Ortega all had contract extensions.

MPWF had all their tapings in their Tijuana home base for their MPWF Vivo TV show with ratings in the 0.05-0.06 range.

OLLIE: OLLIE went head to head with MPWF in the northern area with their Main show El Azortar Hacia Fuera, being held in the National Arena in Tijuana also. They also sold out the 2000 seat venue, but their show didn’t fair as well as MPWF. Main Event and arguably match of the night , which isn’t saying much, was the tag team battle where Swarm I & III defeated Dos Phoenix. Slayyer def Phoenix I in the co main event to retain his world title.

( Show Rating : D+ Main Event and MOTN Rating : D+ )

Contract extensions included Swarm I, Hijo del Relampago, Oceano, Asesino Del Hacha, and Domingo Castillo.

The tv show OLLIE Relampago continues to lag behind their competition, only doing a 0.01-0.02 share for the month.

CGC Watch:

The big event of the month was right at the start as day 2 of the DeColt Wrestlefestival kicked things off. Obviously learning from the previous night, this was a much better offering, with the main event and match of the night being the CGC World title rematch between Runaway Train and Steve Flash. Just below it was the co main event of Remo defeating Fate which also did well.

(Show Rating : B Main Event & MOTN Rating : B+ PPV buyrate 0.79 )

CGC extended the contracts of Shane Nelson, Duncan Kendall, Jenny Playmate, Nathan Black and Adrian Garcia. Hotstuff Marie also extends her deal, apparently deciding against joining Jack in NOTBPW.

As mentioned before, Nomad joins the roster, but all was not good news for Alex this month, as arguably their biggest star, Trent Shaffer, has decided that the potential written deal from TCW in the future is worth more to him that maintaining a top spot in the #2 promotion in Canada. Although Alex has stocked the roster with a lot of name talent, Shaffer was someone who could have carried them for the next decade, and his loss will be felt.

CGC Title Bout Wrestling continues strong as Alex manages to carry the momentum from the DeColt PPV throughout the month. Ratings are in the 0.57-0.59 range in Canada and in the 0.51-0.53 range in the USA, holding steady.

Around the rest of the world , the news for April 2010 was….

News:

  • A couple of luchadors enter the professional ranks as Mustang Blanco Jr and Amazing Fire Fly make their debut. Both are flashy high flyers, with Fire Fly being touted as having the most promising future, being a protégé of Axxis Jr. It remains to be seen how they will fair in the crowded luchador ranks.
  • Edward Cornell, finally garnering his own fame as the 21CW UK Champion, suffered a serious setback as he tore a rotator cuff in a title defense and prognosis is that it will sideline him for 12 months. While this will seriously derail his current momentum, at age 26 he is still young enough to bounce back strong.
  • Cornell wasn’t the only one to suffer serious injury this month as Nigel Svensson suffered a shattered elbow during a match on the GCC wrestling tour and he is expected to be out for at least 15 months. This will be a severe sidetrack to the young Svensson , who was starting to make a name for himself in Japan.
  • One of the original pioneers of hardcore, Dick the Devastator, has left the wrestling industry to enjoy full retirement at age 65. Best known as owner, booker and main attraction of the regional All American Florida Wrestling promotion, he held their main title a staggering 18 times over the 1969-1979 period till the company was absorbed by SWF. He then went on to team with Saionji Omura in a popular tag team in Japan, where he settled down and became a road agent in Japan.

Signings and Leavings:

  • Taking advantage of their working agreement, TCW signs Steve Frehley to their roster, while he works at CGC also.
  • INSPIRE adds to their regular roster with the additions of Mohammed El Yaaggoudi, Kid Toma, Oleg Dorosklov and Matsudaira Morioka.
  • 4C also reloads with the additions of Shane Nelson and Jared Johnson. They replace Remmy Skye and Bret Fraser
  • Nathaniel Ca$ino joins up with RIPW where he replaces Jerry Martin.
  • USPW brings in natural fit, Ekuma the Hawaiian Strongman.
  • Surprisingly , ROF scores the services of Johnathan Faust, in a move that seems counter intituitive to both their styles. But the popular Faust can only help bring more interest to ROF.
  • James Prudence was unable to impress even the struggling SWF promotion as his contract was allowed to expire without any attempts to re-sign him. A bigger loss for SWF is the departure of former 2 time world champion Enygma, as the exodus of their main event talent continues.
  • MAW original Ricky Douglas is let go as he never lived up to his potential.
  • FCW is less fabulous as Frederique Antonio Garcia departs.
  • Nelson Callum has departed from PSW.
  • Larry Wood has had enough of WLW as he has left the promotion after not getting any major pushes.
  • CZCW loses the services of Davis Wayne Newton, who has decided to focus on his Canadian bookings with 4C and CGC.

Title Changes:

  • With the injury, Edward Cornell has to forfeit the 21CW UK title to Nightmare, who is now a 3 time champion.
  • Raku Makuda defeats Yuma Maruya for her second 5SSW All Asian title.
  • New Zealand Pit Bull regains the APW Austrailian championship from Lanny Williams.
  • Chuichi Sanda captures his first Burning Heavyweight title as he dethrones Kinnojo Horri.
  • Ryan Powell makes a quick impact in 4C defeating Zeus Maximillian to win the 4C championship.
  • Mario Heroic wins the CZCW Coastal Zone Championship for a second time.
  • Seiji Jimbo regains the Hinote Dojo All Japan title for his second run.
  • Henry Lee claims the Mid Atlantic Championship from Grease Hogg.
  • MAW’s tag titles also change hands as the team of Knuckle and Paul huntingdon end the 3 year reign of the Canadian Blondes.
  • Eisaku Kunomasu wins the PGHW Glory Crown for the first time.
  • Roku Sotomura takes the PGHW Historical Japan title.
  • Joe Sexy is now a 2 time SWF North American champion after defeating Bart Biggz.
  • The SWF Shooting Star title shoots around quite a bit as James Prudence defeats Steven Parker for the belt, only to lose it and his job a week later, as Paul Huntingdon wins his first title in SWF.
  • With Eric Eisen failing to stem the tide of popularity loss, SWF gives the belt to the popular Lobster Warrior, who wins his first SWF World title.
  • With T-Rex heading north, USPW sees a new World Champion as Jay Darkness wins the belt and goes back to his old gimmick.

Although I had no plans to add anyone to the roster this month, when I heard that WLW had released Larry Wood, I gave him a call anyway and offered him a spot here. He thanked me, and said he was still grateful for the run I gave him in CGC, but at age 43, he needed to take the best opportunities he could, and with the Japanese promotions still engaged in all out struggle for dominance, he was sure that a more lucrative opportunity would open up there. So basically , it was thanks, but no thanks. I wasn’t surprised, but I had to make the attempt anyway. I bet it would have been a different story if SOTBPW had called, but we weren’t near that level yet.

Anyway, we had a high quality roster already, including the world champions of 2 of the other Mexican promotions, and it was time to deal with some stuff already on our plate, chief this month being resolving the National title that Championa Jr had created but we hadn’t filled yet. So this month we were going to have a tournament to crown a new National Champion. Advertising had already gone out and the website had posted the following lineup for the show called MHW Superacion de Los Limites ( Pushing the Limits )

The Shadow Warriors, having failed to get the titles in their previous attempts, now team up with newcomer Sabra Man Jr to try and best their rivals in a 6 man tag. But the physically dominating champions have enlisted the equally tough Jesus Chavez for their side. Which team will triumph in the battle of speed vs. power?

Hugo Garrido vs. The Cannonball Kid in a Lucha Hardcore Match, winner goes to finals for National title.

Garrido is riding a wave of momentum following his win to earn this spot last month, but the Rudo Americano Cannonball Kid is eager to make his mark in MHW and back up the claim of Americans being superior hardcore wrestlers. Which man will advance to the finals in this latest Mexico vs. America counter?

Slayyer vs. Masked Patriot in a Lucha hardcore match with the winner going to the finals of the National Championship

Yet another skirmish of the Mexico vs. America ongoing battle as this time Slayyer and Masked Patriot square off again. But this will be the first time one on one. Will the greater experience of Slayyer be enough to prevail against the power, speed, and patriotic fervor of the Masked Patriot?

Championa Jr & Mexican Beast vs. David Mack & Genio Verde in a tag team Lucha Cage Match.

Due to the shocking betrayal of Genio Verde, who joined the Rudos Americanos, and savage attack last month on Mexican Beast, the leader of the Sons of Mexico, Global Champion Championa Jr has enlisted the aid of the revenge seeking Beast to deal with both Verde, and his own rival David Mack.

The confines of the steel cage should prevent outside interference, but this match promises to be brutal and bloody. In this clash of national pride, which team will come out on top?

Can't take Sam Pratt seriously as a heel with that smiley picture ! Anyway I think the Rudo's Americanos need to start winning some and with his relative popularity down in Mexico, I see Mr Smiley getting the win

On the other hand Masked Patriots, failure to get the job done continues

The heels will look like a much bigger threat, if they pull out the win in this match.

MHW Superacion De Los Limites

Wed Week 4 May 2010

Verdugo Estupendo, Pyromaniac & Nomad def Darkness Warrior, Giant Brody and Primal Rage in 6:06 by two straight falls.

Match Rating: E

Nothing special, just something to entertain the crowd before the main show, and get the rest of the roster not involved in storylines some work. Verdugo came off as dominant in the match.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Buttercup.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MercedesGimenez.jpg

David Mack’s valet Buttercup is walking backstage when she runs into her Mexican counterpart, Mercedes Gimenez. Both valets immediately get into an argument in their respective languages which looks somewhat comical given neither woman understood the other. The verbal shouting match began to escalate into a pushing one, until backstage officials finally separated the two hellcats. The venomous looks and multilingual insults continue as the two vixens are finally ushered apart.

Rating E

With the unexpected restrictions imposed on me by Championa, I am trying to find something that works, and valet confrontations had been a staple of my booking in NYCW and CGC. Despite both girls being attractive, this still doesn’t get the reception I’d expect though.

Main Show:

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Slayyer.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MaskedPatriot.jpg

Slayyer def Masked Patriot in 10:53 by two straight falls. Slayyer advances to finals of the National title tournament.

Match Rating D-

Decent opener, although the rookie Patriot was clearly outclassed by his far more experienced opponent.

Slayyer moves on to face the winner of the next match.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/TheCannonballKid-1.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/HugoGarrido.jpg

The Cannonball Kid def Hugo Carrido in 11:12 by two straight falls , following interference by Masked Patriot. Cannonball Kid moves on to the finals of the National title tournament.

Match Rating D-

Another decent match, with the Americans making sure one of them gets to the finals as Masked Patriot provides a necessary distraction that Cannonball Kid capitalizes on to get the deciding fall and the win.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/DanielCano.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JavierCano.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/SabraMan-1.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElBestiaPurpura.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElToroDeOro.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JesusChavez_alt.jpg

The Shadow Warriors & Sabra Man Jr def Purple & Gold & Jesus Chavez in 9:51 by two falls to one.

Match Rating E-

The Warriors get a much needed win, but really this match was more filler to give the National title wrestlers a break, and to relax the crowd a little before the final two matches. Of course that isn’t to say I would waste a golden opportunity to advance a storyline….

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElBestiaPurpura.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElToroDeOro.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Magdalena.jpg

Following the match, both Sabra Man Jr and Jesus Chavez head to the back. The Shadow Warriors celebrate the victory with the fans, and Magdalena is berating the tag champions at ringside for losing.

Apparently her displeasure fires them up, because, while the Shadow Warriors are still playing to the crowd, Purple and Gold, at the urging of their manager, reach under the ring, and pull out a pair of ladders! They slide the ladders in the ring and begin assaulting the Shadow Warriors. The Canos try to fight back, but after getting hit by the steel ladders, are at a disadvantage. Purple & Gold continue the assault, culminating in power bombing both Canos onto the ladders, leaving both brothers unconscious. Purple and Gold then stand over them, brandishing the tag title belts as the fans rain down boos.

Rating F

There is no doubt the segment bombed with the fans, but was essential into advancing the tag storyline and setting up the next stage. But this and other events later made it clear to me that Championa Jr and I need a serious talk about just how we were going to do things in the future.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Slayyer.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/TheCannonballKid-1.jpg

Slayyer def The Cannoball Kid in 13:01 by two straight falls. Slayyer wins the National title.

Match Rating D-

Part of the deal to get a higher profile talent like the OLLIE World Champion to be part of a startup promotion involved guaranteeing at least a midcard title run. This fulfills that promise and gives something else to be fought over in the America vs. Mexico storyline which will be important as later events reveal.

The match itself was decent, but nothing to distinguish it from the first round.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackAvatar.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/GenioVerde.jpg

David Mack & Genio Verde walk to the ring, surprisingly carrying out the Mexican national flag! While Verde holds out the flag, Mack grabs a mike and says “ What we have here is the symbol of mediocrity, of a second rate nation with second rate wrestlers. This is the symbol that disgusting, cheating scum like Championa Jr and Mexican Beast take pride in representing! Well, Verde and I are going to destroy your ‘heroes’ just like I destroy this symbol!”

To the crowds’ shock, David Mack pulls out a lighter, and sets fire to the Mexican flag!

Rating E+

Obviously not very popular action with the fans, but it does amp up the rivalry between the two factions and set the stage for the next part of the storyline, as well as adding more fuel to the fire for the main event. No pun intended.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Championa-1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MexicanBeast.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackAvatar.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/GenioVerde.jpg

Championa Jr & Mexican Beast def David Mack & Genio Verde in 17:47 by two straight falls.

Match Rating D+

It’s déjà vu all over again, as Championa refused to do the job in this match, even by proxy with Beast taking the pin. He also refused to have even a draw, as he claimed that we was far and away the biggest star we had and that he shouldn’t be seen as weak. At least he made it clear to me before the match, unlike Alex DeColt, who called his own match and changed the result I set up after he claimed he didn’t need to be pushed. Either way, I am in something of the same situation as before, but my options are limited as I don’t have the same leverage I did a year ago. I still need to stay and prove myself again, but with Championa not wanting to job at all, and not letting me sign anyone who matches him in popularity, my hands are getting really tied. But I am not going to take this quietly. If I can’t change champions, then something else is getting changed, whether the boss likes it or not.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Championa-1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MexicanBeast.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackAvatar.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/GenioVerde.jpg

After the deciding pin, the match is over, but the fight continues as Mexican Beast and Championa Jr are still incensed over the flag burning earlier. David Mack and Genio Verde fight back and the brawl between the four men spills out of the ring and up the aisle and they continue fighting all the way into the back.

Rating E+

Since Championa wont job, even in a tag match, I need to keep the heat going in this fight somehow, but I already had a major beat down earlier in the show, and didn’t want to lessen the impact of it by just repeating the same thing in a slightly different way. Therefore the flag burning, and the wounded national pride of the Mexicans providing the impetus to carry the feud forward.

Overall Show D

A decent show, not as good as most we have done, but not our worst either. The national title tournament, while nothing special, was a solid event that crowned a worthy champion, and fulfilled a contract demand as the same time. In fact, it was a good night overall, except for the handcuffs put on me by Championa when he decided he was too important to lose , even in a tag match. While I may not be able to change that at the moment, something else is gonna change as I am not about to get myself in the same position as I was in CGC where I don’t get to control the book to my satisfaction.

Saturday morning Week 4 May, 2010 Championa Jr’s MHW Offices in Tijuana Mexico.

Following the sequence of events after the last show, and the trends I had seen so far for the first few months, I knew something had to change. It had become evident that Championa apparently wanted an all wrestling show that utilized some hardcore trappings, but with him as the unquestioned star and champion.

It was a nice formula for building an ego and can work as long as that main star is hugely popular, as witness Puerto Rican Power and his FCW, but it really is not a recipe for growth or long term success. And , unlike in Puerto Rico, we had competition for the area and the fans.

So I called a meeting with the boss to discuss the future of the promotion and my role in it. Either there was some change to my satisfaction, or Championa would be looking for a new head booker. Unlike in CGC, where Alex held all the cards, I wasn’t without power this time. Championa hadn’t handled a book before, which is why he sought me out in the first place, and he needed me as a buffer with the rest of the roster, especially if he was going to set himself up as the figurehead of the promotion. So with that in mind, I addressed my comments to my erstwhile employer.

“ Senor Championa, I appreciate the opportunity you have given me to help guide your new promotion, and I also understand your desire to shape it to your vision. However, your insistence on both all wrestling, and also being basically untouchable as Champion, is causing severe difficulties in my ability to build the necessary conflict and interest that will allow to expand our fan base.”

I waited for the translator to finish as Championa didn’t speak good English, and I hadn’t gotten past ordering Dos Equis in Spanish yet.

Championa replied “ Senor Mack, as you know , your services are valuable to me and my company, and I am willing to listen to your ideas, but I am , without being egotistical, the most popular star in the company and I am not willing to undermine my image or standing. With that in mind , what suggestions do you have?”

As I expected, Championa wasn’t going to budge on his creative control, and thus I had planned to fight my battle on another ground.

“ Senor Championa, I respect your position, and your desire to maintain the integrity of your character. But our current format is a hindrance to allowing us to properly utilize that character and build interest to the fans. Currently with the expectation of all wrestling, the only way to build conflict and heat is through the matches themselves. That is fine if the outcomes are unpredictable. But your situation is like a book where everyone knows the ending. There is no drama, no tension! And thus, no reason for the fans to get involved and interested! So we need a different way to create that drama, that tension. A reason for the fans to want to see you go in there and win! Everyone knows that a movie will have a happy ending, but it is the journey there that determines whether the movie was good or not.”

I waited for the interpreter to finish translating this and for Championa to think over what I said. After a couple minutes he continued

“ I see the merit in what you are saying. What changes are you suggesting? I am not willing to change our emphasis on the lucha and hardcore nature of our product however.”

I replied “ I agree with you there. The lucha and hardcore elements are what defines our company and product. I admit that originally I envisioned a sort of DAVE of Mexico, with a large mixture of brawling, aerial and technical styles co existing, but in a counter culture enviroment. But these few months have shown me this is too big a canvas to try and work on, especially for a small company like us. So what I propose is to concentrate more on the core Lucha and Hardcore signature of the company. I will abide by all creative control issues you have regarding your character, but we need to allow for more time between the matches to create the drama, the interest, and the heat for the matches themselves. We need more time for non wrestling segments to tell the story that the matches become the ending of. And we need to set the expectation of the fans for this format. This way, you can still be the hero of the people, but we can generate the necessary interest for the fans to keep coming back to see you fight over and over, without burying everyone you face. Not only will this allow your company to grow, it will allow us to compete with the other companies here, especially in talent acquisition, as it will be difficult to get bigger names to join us if all they can expect is to be fed to you, without anyway to get back their heat, or build their characters as well.

So basically my suggestion is that I will forgo the attempts to be cult like in our product, and lessen the daredevil elements, especially as our current roster doesn’t support that. I will concentrate on the core elements of hardcore and lucha wrestling. You maintain your creative control of your character, but allow me to add more non wrestling time to the shows and get across to the fans that these are integral to the promotion. Can you make these adjustments and meet me halfway? I do appreciate the opportunity here, and I would like to continue it, but I need to have the tools to succeed.”

Once again, I waited patiently for the interpreter to translate as my future with MHW was being decided. While I hoped Championa would be reasonable and agree to my terms, I was ready to depart if necessary. I was adamant I was not going to be put in the same position again as I was at the end of CGC. While I am willing to work within a set of structures and guidelines to achieve a goal, I wasn’t now and never intended to be a glorified yes man!

After several minutes while Championa Jr considered my suggestions, he finally replied

“Senor Mack, like you, I had an idea of what I wanted as a promotion. I wanted hard hitting matches that utilized the lucha roots of our nation, but added a more physical nature. While I am uncomfortable with the extracurricular activities, preferring to tell my story in the ring, I do see the merits in what you propose.

Therefore, I will allow you to add more non wrestling time to the shows, and I will make it clear to the fans and sponsers that this is part of the show and part of what MHW offers. You have repaid my faith in you so far, and even allowed me to achieve a return on my investment much earlier than I originally anticipated.

But, be warned that all my original rules and requirements still stand and that if this does backfire on us, and we are not growing after several shows, I will not hesitate in restoring us back to this original format that I am comfortable with. As long as that is understood, I agree to your terms.”

Championa Jr stuck out his hand, and like that time 6 months ago in the bar in Juarez, I shook it and we agreed to a partnership again.

Lowered Daredevil to very low, removed Cult, and lowered match ratio to 70%.

Championa is still probably gonna be the PRP of Mexico however, until and unless he lets me sign people that have the same popularity level as him.

Nice job knew ya could do it, once ya hit regional you can probably sign more popular people C- max probably. On him jobbing instead of being on the losing side of tag matches do 4 ways/three ways etc and don't have him loose they won't block that as fast.

We got things straightened out to give me more flexibility to tell stories using out of the ring segments, and less emphasis on an entirely match based show. I was glad that Championa was willing to compromise, but the fact that we had profited another $5K last month and he had seen a 20% on his investment in the first 5 months undoubtedly put him in a generous mood. There was a big announcement for this month’s show, but that would be coming out later. For now, it was time to check out what the competition was doing.

Eye on Mexico:

SOTBPW: SOTBPW returned home for their main show this month as they sold out the 5000 seat Parque la Junta for their SOTBPW El Unforgiven show. Clear match of the night and and a contender of MOTY in Mexico was the clash between Axxis Jr and El Fuerza where both men knocked each other out at the same time! The co main event was also an excellent match, as Pablo Rodriguez worked to get back in contention by defeating El Demonio.

( Show B+ Main Event: A Co Main Event: B )

Two major stars were extended in Leon Joven and Pablo Rodriguez.

Their Lucha Libre tv show held steady in ratings getting 0.69-0.72 share

MPWF: The main show Radioactivo sold out the 2000 seat Tijuana National Arena and was a decent effort overall. The main event was the tag rematch of Team Crime vs. Cique Jr and Magnifico, with Team Crime getting the win. Match of the night was Angel De Mexico defending his Lucha title against Chess Maniac.

( Show: C Main Event: C MOTN : C+ )

A few talents got extended, namely Chica de Partido, Carlos Moreno, and Luchador Original.

Vivo! Also maintained their place in the ratings, garnering a steady 0.06 share all month.

OLLIE: Their main show was held in South Eastern Mexico in the 1000 seat Merida Resort. It was a solid if not spectacular show main evented by the successful title defense of Slayyer over Phoenix to retain his Universal title.

( Show: D+ Main Event : D+ )

Cuervo and Phoenix III both signed extended contracts.

Relampago continued to hold steady at 0.01 ratings share.

The CGC Watch:

The big show this month was Chaos in the Cage which was a solid show bolstered by a fantastic main event.

Runaway Train continued his hold on the CGC World title by defeating Alex DeColt in a cage match which easily stood head and shoulders above any other matches that evening. PPV buyrates were also excellent as they got 0.74 buy rate.

( Show : B Main Event : A )

Alex continues to stockpile big ‘entertainment’ names from the big two in America as both Danny Fonzarelli and Elmo Benson are added to the roster. Conversely, Grimm Quibble, who hadn’t progressed quickly enough for Alex, was let go. Chance, Fumihiro Ota, and Blonde Bombshell were extended however.

Title Bout Wrestling also held steady with 0.57 in Canada and 0.50-0.52 in America.

Rest of the wrestling world for May 2010.…

News:

  • GCG is the current casualty of the fierce conflict between the numerous national sized Japanese promotions as they fall to Cult. This probably will end up having severe repercussions on their roster when contracts come due.
  • EXODUS 2010 was opened this month by Diamond Furusawa, featuring a heavy blend of modern explosive action, realistic combat and cult like controversial characters. Furusawa has brought in veteran Tasuku Shinozuka as the head booker and they have announced an ambitious touring schedule for the small company. They are still finalizing their roster, but a couple of the main event names appear to be Hypnos and Silver Shibanuma.
  • Big charismatic brawler Richie Fox has made his debut down under. While not very skilled, he can definitely work a crowd and could find work even in the opportunity starved Australian scene.
  • BHOTWG dojo grad Toju Munkata enters the pro ranks this month and looks like a solid if not outstanding prospect.
  • Age of Aquarious throwback Bobbie Dylan, a former exotic dancer turned wrestler makes her debut,. She flaunts a hippy character in revealing clothing and little else in the way of skill, which should make her a natural for BSC.
  • Hot English commodity Wade Orson has hit the pro ranks and has been immediately tipped as the next big thing on the UK scene. ROF wasted no time in giving the promising rookie a contract, and no doubt he will have the opportunity to polish his already sharp ring skills.
  • Raymond Diaz will miss the next 3 months of action due to Chronic knee pains.
  • 47 year old ‘Soul Man’ Elijah Harris, a former SCCW Champion, has hung up the wrestling tights. While never making it on the national stage, he was a fixture in most southern wrestling promotions throughout the 80’s and 90’s , getting a final run in NYCW.

Signings and Leavings:

  • CWWF has brought in the popular and talented Wanda Fish to bolster their roster.
  • Amber Allen joins AAA. Seems a natural choice.
  • 4C reloads their roster with young hungry talent as they sign Jerry Martin, Rockin Ryan Turner and Phillipe La Grenier.
  • Catherine Quine leaps to the big time as she accepts a contract from NOTBPW’s women’s division.
  • Remmy Skye makes it to the bigs as well as he signs with TCW.
  • James Prudence joins MAW after being let go by SWF.
  • Former MAW champion Mainstream Hernandez take a deal with RIPW after TCW lets him go.
  • Joey Poison adds CZCW to his bookings.
  • Stevie Grayson has left MAW and RIPW to concentrate on touring in Japan.
  • Eric Future’s own future isn’t too bright as he is let go by ROF.
  • Raven Nightfall has decided to work only AAA and has left CWWF.

Title Changes:

  • The Great Hisato takes the Burning Junior Championship for a second time by defeating Optimus.
  • Jay Darkness ends the 18 month reign of Davis Wayne Newton to win the 4C Hardcore championship.
  • Erik Strong is the new CZCW Xtreme champion after ending the year long reign of Fox Mask.
  • Greg Black wins the TCW All Action title from Edd Stone.

This month was going to be something special, I hoped. I was going to institute and idea that had worked very well in NYCW, and modify it to fit our company product. I had been keeping it under wraps until I could finalize everything, and also waiting to see if I could get Championa to agree to the modified format.

Since that was a go, it was time to implement something that the other Mexican promotions didn’t offer.

The website had been hinting about a big announcement in the days following our last show and now it was time to reveal the MHW Rey de Torneo Hardcore ( King of Hardcore tournament ), an annual invitational tourney to crown the most hardcore fighter in Mexico. Participants would include entries from OLLIE and MPWF (not SOTBPW as they declined the working agreement ) and would be a one night, lucha hardcore rules tournament, with the final battle taking place in a cage!

Since the King of New York tournament had been so successful, and none of the other Mexican promotions ran an invitational tournament, this was another opportunity to set ourselves apart from our competitors. Granted, while the initial roster wasn’t going to be overwhelming, I hoped one day to have some of the biggest names in Mexico want to compete in this event. But that is for the future. For now, in addition to already having the World champions of both OLLIE and MPWF on our active roster, we also secured one invitee from each promotion for the tournament. OLLIE allowed us to bring in one of the popular Swarm stable, Swarm III , while MPWF lent us the exciting flyer Huracan Sandoval Jr. The initial brackets were posted on the website and the first round of the Rey de Torneo Hardcore went like this….

Slayyer vs. Masked Patriot 1st round match

In a rematch from the previous month, Masked Patriot looks to redeem himself in the eyes of his teacher, David Mack, and the country that he represents. But his road will not be easy, as he faces the newly crowned National Champion Slayyer, who also holds the OLLIE World title. Slayyer is an odds on favorite to add the Rey de Torneo title to his already overflowing trophy case.

Huracan Sandoval Jr vs. Nomad 1st round match

MPWF standout Huracan Sandoval is here to represent his promotion in the tournament, and further his and his company’s standing by winning the inaugural tournament. His opponent is the gritty and determined Nomad, who, having finally gotten the call to the big leagues, would like nothing better than to report north with this prestigious title showing CGC had made a sound investment.

Swarm III vs. Verdugo Estupendo 1st round match

The Swarm stable has been running rampant through OLLIE for the past two years, and each member is accomplished in their own right. Swarm III can, with a victory here, not only assert the superiority of the Swarm, but his own toughness in that group. But he also faces a stiff challenge in the big Verdugo Estupendo. Estupendo, after having failed to best his long time rival Masked Beast, has taken his frustration out on the rest of the MHW roster and has been mowing down his opposition right and left. Victory here would put him back in ascendence and on the road to the main event scene.

The Cannonball Kid vs. Hugo Garrido 1st round match

Another rematch from last month as the powerful Garrido looks to get payback against the Kid, who stole a victory in their last meeting. The format definitely favors the larger, more rugged Garrido, but no one should underestimate the experience and championship pedigree of the Cannonball Kid

Championa Jr vs. David Mack vs. Mexican Beast vs. Genio Verde in a four corners Flag Match.

After the despicable act last month where Mack and Verde set fire to the Mexican National flag, Championa has petitioned and received this special match in order to get revenge. Titles aren’t on the line in this match but National Pride is, as a flag will be set up on a pole in each respective corner, and whichever man can grab one is allowed to use it as a weapon. The winner will be whoever can knock out his opponent and keep him covered with his nations flag for a ten count.

Part of a transition from the old format to the new format. The fans weren’t overly interested, but at least they didn’t spend the time chanting for a match either, so that is something.

David Mack and Genio Verde are shown back in their lockeroom, apparently discussing strategy for the 4 corner flag match tonight. Even though they are technically opponents, it seems if they are plotting some kind of partnership for the match.

Rating C-

A big step up from the usual fan reaction. It seems as long as it is someone the fans can get behind either in support or hatred, they are more receptive now. That is a solid step to showing the new format may work once it goes into full effect after the tournament.

Their opponents tonight, Championa Jr and Mexican Beast are also forming an alliance for tonight’s match, as both have scores to settle with David Mack and Genio Verde. The Sons of Mexico agree to fight the Rudos Americanos rather than each other tonight.

Rating D+

Neither man is as gifted on the mike as myself and Genio, however their popularity with the fans is enough to get them a good reaction, and so far the crowd seems to not be restless. Of course the tournament will be almost non stop action so they may be looking forward to that.

Championa Jr is shown walking backstage , when suddenly he gets jumped from behind by Genio Verde and David Mack! Both men savagely attack the Global Champion, and throw him against the wall. After a vicious double slam through a table, the two attackers pull out an American Flag and cover the prone, battered and dazed Championa with it, saying this is just a taste of what will happen tonight!

Rating D+

Once again a consistent solid crowd reaction as we build up the main event.

Main Show:

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Slayyer.jpg vs http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MaskedPatriot.jpg

Slayyer def Masked Patriot in 6:01 by two straight falls. Slayyer advances to the second round of the tournament.

Match Rating E+

Went pretty much as everyone predicted. Masked Patriot is still green and paying his dues. But the exposure and the work can only help accelerate his growth as he does have strong potential.

Huracan Sandoval Jr def Nomad in 5:50 by two straight falls. Huracan Sandoval advances to the second round.

Match Rating D-

Huracan gets a convincing win, but Nomad shows some of the talent that got him called by CGC as he holds up his end of a decent first round match.

Swarm III def Verdugo Estupendo in 6:08 by two straight falls. Swarm III advances to the second round

Match Rating E+

Swarm upholds the reputation of his team with a win over the tough Estupendo, who was very frustrated with himself over not winning the match.

The Cannonball Kid def Hugo Garrido in 5:59 by two straight falls Cannonball Kid advances to second round

Match Rating D

In what was the best match of the first round, the Cannonball Kid was able to def Garrido cleanly this time to advance.

Slayyer def Huracan Sandoval Jr in 8:23 by two straight falls. Slayyer advances to the finals

Match Rating E+

The national champion positions himself to win a second title in two months by getting a victory over the MPWF import Sandoval. Alas the match itself wasn’t anything impressive.

The Cannonball Kid def Swarm III in 8:20 by two straight falls. Cannonball Kid advances to the finals.

Match Rating E-

Cannonball Kid is not having a good night for some reason. Perhaps it was too much travel, but this wasn’t his best effort, and the newcomer Swarm III is unable to compensate like Garrido did in the first round, so this came off as the worst match of the tournament and night so far. With Slayyer being unimpressive in his wins, I am a little worried about the final match.

Cannonball Kid def Slayyer in a Ladder Match when Cannonball Kid retrieved the tournament belt. Cannonball Kid is the new Rey de Hardcore Tournament Champion.

Match Rating D-

It was clearly evident both men were tired as this was their 3rd match in 90 min. Add that to Cannonball Kid not being on tonight, and the final , while a decent match, was nothing special and not what I was hoping for to kick off the inaugural tournament. Cannonball Kid gets the win to help counterbalance Slayyer as the National Champion, and give the Rudos Americanos some championship credibility.

Buttercup comes out and riles up the crowd by shooting t-shirts with an American flag printed on them to the crowd.

Rating D

Despite her getting heat for the american flag t-shirts, the Mexican audience does appreciate a good looking woman.

Mercedez Gimenez tries to fire up the crowd as she comes out shooting Mexican flag t-shirts to the audience.

Rating D-

Surprisingly the heel valet got a little more crowd response than the home grown one.

Championa Jr def David Mack, Genio Verde and Mexican Beast in 16:27 when he covers Mexican Beast with the Mexican flag for a 10 count.

Match Rating C-

The backstage alliances held up at first, as even though this was an every man for himself four corners match, the Rudos Americanos and the Sons of Mexico squared off against each other. The flags standing in each corner were quickly grabbed and used as weapons in a variety of ways as all four men were bloody. Finally it looked like the Rudos had the advantage as Championa had been knocked out of the ring and rammed into the steel railing on the side, incapacitating him. Mexican Beast was then double teamed by David Mack and Genio Verde and after a devastating double power bomb, was laid out flat on the mat. But while Mack and Verde were discussing which of their flags would cover Beast, Championa charged the ring and knocked both men to the floor with a cross body off the top rope! Championa then grabbed his flag and used it to propel both Mack and Verde crashing to the floor outside the ring. Then, Championa surprised the audience when he took the opportunity to cover the still prone Mexican Beast with his flag and cover him for the pin and the victory!

A good main event to help rescue the night, and a curveball ending to help mitigate Championa’s refusal to do the job, even by proxy. Championa gets his win, but tension is built in the Sons of Mexico faction, and the Rudos Americanos get to retain their heat.

Overall Show Rating D+

The main event made this show as the tournament, although having a couple bright spots, was not as successful as I hoped. Maybe after another year of building our image, it will meet with greater success next time. This was kind of a transition show as the tournament had already been scheduled before Championa and I had made our agreement on the format change. Next month’s show would feature the new format in a more normal fashion.
