The David Mack Chronicles: MHW, 3 Parts Pain & One Part Tequila

<p>Six months. It had been six months since it happened. Six months since a man I thought I could trust had stabbed me in the back! The worst part is I should have seen it coming. As I sit here in this dingy bar drinking a warm beer, my thoughts drift back to that day six months ago when my fortunes changed for the worse.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

For those who may not know me, my name is David Mack. I book NYCW once a month and up until six months ago, I had been booking and wrestling for CGC for a year and a half. Things had been going well. NYCW , with only one show a month, didn’t take up much time, and we were slowly but steadily carving out a growing niche in the Tri-State area, despite what was considered an old school product, and Stomper’s tight fisted purse strings. CGC had been steadily climbing in competition with their rivals NOTBPW and , although not overtaking them, we had narrowed the gap and become a very prominent promotion with some of the most talked about storylines in North American wrestling. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

But then things changed literally overnight. The man who had brought me in to CGC, George DeColt, decided to step down and turn the reins of the company over to his son , Alex. The man I replaced as head booker. I knew Alex had been bitter about that when it happened, but I had thought we had gotten past that and I had proven myself as a valuable asset with a solid track record of success. Apparently I was wrong.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

It was the very next show after George stepped down that it happened. Despite Alex staring me in the eyes and telling me he wanted to work together , he decided to overturn my decisions for the television main event during the match. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

After the show was over, I stormed into Alex’s office and told him that we had agreed I was going to handle all the booking decisions. I said I put in certain finishes for a reason and that I didn’t appreciate him changing them on a whim, even if he was the owner! I then stated either he agreed to never do it again, or he could find himself a new head booker!! I was stunned when he replied “There’s the door David. This is my company and if you can’t handle doing things my way, I don’t need you. You’re fired.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

It was then I realized that the son of a bitch had planned it. Less than two seconds later, two building security guards are there escorting me to my locker to grab my stuff and usher me out. They had already been waiting outside. Alex knew I wouldn’t stand for him horsing around with the main event matches and basically goaded me into that confrontation so he would have a reason to get rid of me.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

For weeks it left a bitter taste in my mouth. I still had NYCW , but there we were struggling to bring in 2000 people a month, with profits measured in hundreds of dollars, when there were any. I had been booking 15, 000 seat PPV’s and dealing with more money in a month than NYCW had ever seen in its entire existence! All we could do was the one show a month and even wrestling on it, I still had a lot of time on my hands.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

I realized what I wanted was payback. I wanted to show up Alex, to prove that he made a mistake in getting rid of me, but the real problem was how to do that. CGC was hardly likely to suddenly collapse. I had built too well, and Alex was competent enough to manage what was there, if nothing else. And my other oprions were limited. NOTBPW were more than happy to bring me in as a wrestler, but booking was strictly a family affair. 4C basically said they couldn’t afford to piss off Alex because he could strip their company dry if he really chose to , so Canada was out. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Eisen in SWF still hadn’t forgiven me for snagging Remo Richardson and driving another nail in the cofffin of their fall from dominance, and TCW had a working agreement with CGC , which Tommy Cornell wasn’t about to jeopardize for me. MAW, RIPW, PSW were out as I would be competing against myself since we all shared the same relative market area. Overseas was out as I still had my commitments to Stomper and NYCW. That left CZCW. Unfortunately, Cliff Anderson was more than happy chugging along in mediocrity and enjoyed calling all the shots himself, so he wasn’t interested in my services as a booker.</p><p>

Which only left me with one option. And that is why I am here, freezing my ass off in this crappy bar in January 2010 , nursing a warm beer, while waiting for my prospective new boss to show up.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

He had contacted me out of the blue and said he was starting a new wrestling company that was going to do something this area had never seen before and he wanted someone young and hungry, but with a proven track record to help him get it off the ground. After about 20 minutes, he finally walked in. Most of the crowd would recognize him except for two things. 1. He was in a business suit and not a wrestling outfit, and 2. He wasn’t wearing a mask. </p><p>

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the bar I am in was located in Juarez , Mexico and the man who I was meeting was a well known Luchador named Championa Jr, a former 2 time OLLIE Universal Champion.</p><p> </p><p>

He came to the table, eagerly shook my hand and then excitedly sat down and unrolled a large bundle he had carried in. What he unfurled was a banner that said MHW Mexican Hardcore Wrestling. As he explained it to me it would take elements of the traditional Lucha Libre wrestling and mix them in with a anti-establishment , hardcore product similar to what DAVE offered. He said that Mexico had never had anything like it and that the market was ripe for making a big impact. </p><p> </p><p>

I could see the potential here. Granted there would be some serious obstacles to overcome, but I thrived on challenge, and the payoff could be huge. If I could succeed here I would prove once and for all my reputation as a successful booker and dispel any lingering doubt that Alex’s firing of me may have put into anyone’s mind. In fact, there were really only two problems that I could see right off. First, I really didn’t know much about lucha libre or hardcore, at least not from a booking perspective, so there would be a steep learning curve . Even more so since this was a company with no history, no reputation,, and currently, no roster. And second, I didn’t speak Spanish…..</p>

OOC POST:

This is a continuation of the CGC game I had earlier, and 6 months have passed in game. I will put in an update soon with any significant changes in the game world for those six months. I am not going to reveal the roster yet, as I want a little surprise, just like the fans would have, because this is a brand new company in the game world, and such has no history or established roster the fans would already know.

As to why MHW , three reasons.

1. I wanted a small company to show David Mack as somewhat fallen from the highs of CGC and burning for revenge and redemption of his reputation

2. I prefer to do diaries that break new ground for me in both characters , wrestlers, and companies in order to avoid any 'been there, done that' and try to keep things fresh for me.

and 3. MHW was the first company that opened and that I could get a job at as head booker :p

Anyway, even though I don't have as much time as I used to, I will try to update somewhat frequently, and I hope you enjoy the latest chapter of David Mack :)

Now that we had come to an agreement that I would book and wrestle for his new company, Championa Jr and I sat down over the next couple days and hammered out exactly how things were going to work.

Of course, as any owner does, he had certain guidelines and restrictions he wanted followed.

First and foremost was his desire to not see his investment squandered. He had put up $100K seed money for the promotion to help get it off the ground, which was pretty much all the money he had set aside from his relatively successful career, and stated that if it was gone, so was I. Also, while he realized we weren’t going to be self sufficient out of the gate, he did want us to be in the black within a couple years, so at the end of those two years, we had to have at least $60K of the original $100K in the company’s coffers.

And finally came his instructions regarding our as yet non existant roster. Being a company that was going to utilize a hardcore style product, he wanted men who were tough enough to handle it, yet safe enough to prevent any unnecessary injuries. Being a small promotion meant we couldn’t afford to have people not available as we wouldn’t have a large roster to draw from. Also, even though wrestlers who enjoyed working hardcore wrestling were somewhat crazy to begin with, Championa Jr did not want any wrestler who had any history of run ins with the federales working for him as he wanted to avoid any complications with the policia.

OOC:

1. MHW can’t fall into debt at any time in 2 years

2. At end of two years MHW must not be below $60, 000

3. Cannot hire or extend anyone with less than D- toughness

4. Cannot hire or extend anyone with problems with law

5. Cannot hire or extend anyone with less than D- in Safety ( I.e no Big Smack Scott)

Championa Jr was eager to get things moving and wanted to have our first MHW show in two weeks.

I convinced him to move it back till the end of the month, pointing out we didn’t even have any wrestlers yet, much less the necessary support staff like referees, announcers, and minor staff.

He told me to get to work putting together a roster and he would begin contacting sponsors and handling promotional advertising and venue for our first show Valvula Reguladora Llena ( Full Throttle ).

Next was fine tuning what our product was going to be. While the general gist of what he wanted was a hardcore influenced lucha style , exactly how that was going to break down in presentation was key to the audience we were hoping to draw. While I wanted to have a decent amount of angles to try and sell wrestlers and their gimmicks, Championa was insistent that we be mostly ring action with very little time spent on angles. This limited some initial ideas I had , but I successfully argued that Championa’s original version didn’t differentiate itself enough to stand apart from the other lucha companies, so we compromised on adding elements of cult and risqué style, although very little. I also stated we needed to push the edge in the ring , especially since we weren’t going to be spending time building characters outside the ring.

Finally, we decided that there was going to be a faces vs. heels flavor, but that there would be relaxed a little to allow for tweeners.

OOC : Product for Hardcore Lucha Libre

Key Feature : Lucha Libre

Heavy: Hardcore, Modern

Medium: Daredevil, Traditional

Low: Comedy, Cult, Risque

Very Low: Mainstream

None : Realism, Hyper Realism, Pure

Match Ratio 90%

Intensity : 65%

Danger: 60%

With the basics set down, it was time for me to make some calls and start getting a roster together. And I needed to go get a Spanish English dictionary…..

Two of my favourite writers are back in the space of a day? Pfft, you wait ages for a bus...

Anyway, great choice of promotion. I was considering an MHW dynasty, but decided against it because by the time I'd hired a roster, it was basically 4C in Mexico, and I've failed at 4C before. Will be very interesting to see how you handle it. Dissapointed that Campeona Jr. took over instead of Gino Montero, because having a boss younger and more talented than you would've made a nice change... No offence to Mr Jr. ¬_¬

The D- toughness thing is a bit of a bastard in Mexico though. Obviously there are still tonnes of available workers, but it does rule out three of my very favourites. :(

Now that I was immersing myself back into the wrestling scene outside of NYCW, it was time to get caught up on the major happenings since my unexpected ousting from CGC.

July 2009

News:

  • TCW goes Global and firmly establishes themselves as the biggest wrestling promotion in the world.
  • Alex DeColt replaces me with Corporal Doom, who is announced as the new head booker. He may have the title, but I and anyone else in the industry know Alex is calling all the shots and Doom is just a figurehead.
  • Large 6’9” 300lb Japanese wrestler Brute Kikuchi enters the professional ranks. He is extremely rough in the ring, but possesses a modicum of entertainment skill and undeniable menace, meaning he could find a place somewhere.
  • Lefty Wilkes, younger brother of 4C’s Dubery Excess , follows the family tradition and enters the wrestling world. Possessed of good charisma, but lackluster talent, it will take a miracle for him to blossom beyond jobber status.
  • Harking back to the ‘80’s style of wrestling, bodybuilder turned wrestler Steel has oiled up his pecs and entered the squared circle. Has some skill, but not enough to stand out from any other gym rat that thinks they can make money just by roiding up and entering a ring.
  • Hombre de la Energia suffered a possible career ending injury when he broke his neck after landing awkwardly on a plancha attempt. Best case scenario is at least a year before Hombre can wrestle again.
  • Two big names in the industry have decided to enjoy their golden years in retirement as George DeColt and Preston Holt both announced they were leaving the wrestling industry to younger, more active people and sitting back to enjoy time with their families again.
  • Long time veteran Helen Bach has finally called an end to her over 2 decade long career and called it quits as an active competitor at age 47.
  • One of the legends of the sport, and arguably the best big man wrestler in the business, Dread, retired from the ring today. His incredible career include holding the SWF World title, the TCW World Championship, and twice holding the Burning World Championship and GCG World Championship, making him among the most decorated champions in the sports history.

Signings and Leavings:

  • TCW’s expansion brings about a rash of signings as they add some big names to their roster. Additions include Remo Richardson, Christian Faith, Groucho Bling and Steve DeColt. They also add referee Francis Long. Both Long and Richardson are still working with CGC thanks to the working agreement between TCW and CGC.
  • Alex DeColt wastes no time in putting his stamp on his newly inherited CGC by bringing in former SWF superstar Runaway Train, and 4C’s biggest name Joey Poison. He also casts off veterans Eric Tyler and Jon Jetson.
  • SWF continue their downward talent spiral as both Akima Brave and Runaway Train leave, Akima for a contract with BHOTWG.

Title Changes:

  • Jamie Quine and Steph Blake claim the AAA tag titles after Blake’s former partner Helen Bach retires.
  • APW sees New Zealand Pitbull and Boo Smithson claim the tag titles.
  • Amo Del gato wins the Ollie Campeon de Mexico title.
  • Simon Flemmingway wins his first significant tile by capturing the PGHW Historical Japan belt.
  • Chance Fortune has his 4th run with the TCW All Action belt.
  • Geoff Borne and jamie Anderson capture the UEW Tag titles.
  • Koji Kojima wins the WLW Universal title for the 3rd time and the first in 6 years.

August 2009

News:

  • BHOTWG feeeder promotion Hinote Dojo, has established themselves as a regional promotion.
  • Young Australian Maurice Jackson enters the pro ranks. He possesses some decent skills and excellent charisma, but the limited opportunities down under may hold him back.
  • Clare South, another decent looking fluff piece , ahem, valet, enters wrestling. She doesn’t show anything to set her apart from hundreds just like her , and is unlikely to break out of the low level promotion scene.
  • Former MMA star Roy Edison is looking to transition to the world of professional wrestling, and Japan seems a likely home for the judo expert.
  • Puerto Rican native Island Boy Apollo, an energetic and charismatic middleweight brawler, comes onto the scene. While still lacking polish, he has the potential to step up and be a star in the future.
  • Long time WLW stalwart Dark EAGLE, retired from active competition at age 44. Among his accomplishments are a WLW Universal title run, 2 Show stealer reigns and a Streetfighting championship.
  • Former wrestler turned road agent Jean Pierre Baptiste has decided that it is time to leave the road for good as the 65 year old announced his departure from the business.
  • 4C veteran the Wizard of Ottowa, citing declining skills and lack of success, hangs up the tights at age 38.
  • Following a personal hiatus after the collapse of his beloved UCR promotion. Louis Figo Manico has gotten the urge to compete again and the 41 yr old former 4 time UCR World Champion has announced his return to active status. UEW wasted no time in signing this valuable asset to their roster.
  • It was no surprise when recently retired Dread was announced as the latest inductee to the Wrestling Hall of Immortals.

Signings and Leavings:

  • Darryl Devine is the latest addition to TCW. He also continues his work in CGC thanks to the promotions working agreement. TCW also brings in road agent Pat Deacon.
  • CGC brings in Primus Allen and re-signs Phillip LaGrenier while saying goodbye to the disappointing Christian Price.
  • Adam Matravers returns to 21CW.
  • FCW brings in Frederique Antonio Garcia, But allow Amo Del Gato to leave.
  • MPWF allows former 2 time world champion Soul Taker to depart after deciding not to extend his contract.

Title Changes:

  • Tadiyuki Kikkawa claims the INSPIRE King of Fighters title for the second time.
  • Cique Jr captures his first MPWF Campeon de Herencia de Mundo title.
  • Grease Hogg wins the MAW Championship from Mean Jean Catteley.
  • Grace Harper wins the NOTBPW Women’s belt for the second time.
  • Genghis Rahn defeat Wolf Hawkins for his second run with the TCW International title.
  • Trent Shaffer, aka Young Leo in TCW, firmly establishes himself as one of the biggest stars in the business when he defeats Troy Tornado to win the TCW World championship, while also still holding the CGC World championship as well.
  • Nadia Snow claims the USPW Women’s title for the 3rd time.

News:

  • BHOTWG re-enter the fight for prominence in the Japanese market by making their way back to National size, joining rivals GCG, WLW and PGHW. In what should be a major battle for fans and sponsors, can they retain their new status and knock down one of their rivals, or will they slide back down?
  • Young joshi Gemmei Oonishi graduates from 5SSW and shows a lot of charisma and potential.
  • The grandson of former wrestling legend Micky Starr, Hollywood Brett Starr emerges on the scene. Blessed with great charisma, and ability to connect with a crowd, he has been tapped as a potential future superstar in the industry.
  • TCW’s Charlie Thatcher suffered a devastating injury after missing a top rope knee drop and shattered his knee, requiring major surgery. Best case prognosis is that Thatcher , best known as being a stable enforcer, will be on the shelf 14 months at least.
  • Fomer DAVE mainstay and recent PSW star The Wolverine has decided to hang the tights up once again at age 44. He had been a 4 time tag champion in DAVE and PSW as well as the current PSW champion.

October 2009

News;

  • NOTBPW distances themselves further from CGC by gaining International size status. I wonder how smart Alex is feeling now. Although I am sure he is using me as a scapegoat to any sponsors.
  • Luchador North Star Jr, the grandson of the original North Star, makes his debut. Although his namesake was a major star of his era, the current iteration is viewed as a pale imitation.
  • European born Hugh de Aske, utilizing an unique Pirate gimmick, enters the professional ranks. Possessed of excellent charisma and a solid all around ability, he is being tapped as someone who will rise quickly.
  • 4C’s Canadian Crusher will be on the shelf for 3 months , citing increasing Chronic Upper Back Pain.
  • The Incredible Koyama won’t be so incredible as he suffers a horrific shattered knee injury and will be sidelined a minimum of 12 months.
  • Career jobber Leo Davis has finally called it quits at the age of 42. Rumors abound that he is still looking to get involved behind the scenes of a promotion.
  • Crazy Southern Preacher , Travis Century, has closed the good book on his ring career at age 46. He had one notable run as NYCW Regional champion in recent years and had found new life until DAVE closed their doors.
  • CGC and DAVE icon Eric Tyler finally tapped out to Father time at age 49 and has retired from active competition. Among his accomplishments are 2 CGC World Titile and 5 DAVE Unified title runs. Wrestling has seen the passing of an era as one of the truly toughest men ever rides into the sunset.
  • AAA tag team mainstay Vixxen retires at age 37. Part of the successful ‘Wild Times’ tag team with Devil’s Daughter, she is a former 4 time AAA tag team champion.
  • Inside sources from my previous workplace tell me that Blonde Bombshell has taken up the fiery masked Hell Monkey backstage and the two are now a couple.

Signings and Leavings:

  • NOTBPW goes on a signing spree and adds Samoan Machine, The Natural, Freddie Datsun, Dan DaLay, Mick Muscles and Tamara McFly , and brings in Ric Young and Grant Truman backstage.
  • AAA brings in BSC mainstay Dharma Gregg. It will be interesting to see if they can turn this showgirl into a real wrestler. They also snag Kathy Neptune and Nadia Snow to replenish their roster.
  • The 8th deadly sin John Greed expands his contacts by taking a contract with CZCW along with his SWF bookings. Another sign of how far SWF is falling.
  • CWWF add Roz Laren and Missy Masterson to the roster.
  • More passing of the old guard in CGC as longtime icon Ed Monton leaves the promotion. Apparently, Alex’s power play didn’t sit very well with some of the veterans there, and Alex responds by cleaning house of any dissenters.

Title Changes:

  • Samoan Machines time at the top is brief as Kinnojo Horri defeats him to win the BHOTWG Burning World title for a second time.
  • Newly signed Phillipe LaGrenier scores the biggest win of his career so far when he defeats legendary Steve Flash for the CGC Canadian title. ( Yet another sign of the ‘new’ CGC of Alex.)
  • Tadiyuki Kikkawa’s 2nd reign as champion is very short as he loses the INSPIRE King of Fighters title to Tasuku Iesada.
  • Cique Jr also quickly loses his belt as Genio Verde wins the MPWF Campeon de Herencia de Mundo title.
  • Kurt Laramee defeats Enforcer Roberts for his first SWF North American title.
  • Mario Heroic snags his first significant title as he defeats Steven Parker for the SWF Shooting Star belt.
  • Harry Allen beats Chance Fortune to get his 4th reign as TCW All Action champion.
  • In the battle of talent less big men, T-Rex regains the USPW World title from Peter Valentine, ending the latter’s 6 month reign.
  • Magnum KOBE wins his first WLW Universal title, ending Koji Kojima’s time at the top.

November 2009

News:

  • MAW continues to build on its solid foundation and has now reached Regional size.
  • Australia sees the emergence of the new tag team Affliction, composed of Misery and Anguish. While the face painted brawlers have potential, the lack of actual opportunities in their native area could hamper their prospects.

MHW Valvula Reguladora Llena

Wed Week 4 January 2010

Held at the Palacio de Lucha , Ciudad, Mexico Att: 910

Main Show:

(Translated to English where necessary )

Championa Jr comes out to the ring and welcomes the nearly sold out crowd to the new vision of Lucha wrestling, Mexican Hardcore Wrestling!! He tells the audience that they will witness wrestling as it has never been seen before in Mexico! Championa Jr then thanks the people for coming and promises them a show they will never forget before walking backstage to the applause of the crowd.

Rating C-

A decent crowd for an unknown company and no history. Championa Jr obviously retains some popularity from his previous world title reigns and gets a good response from the fans.

A quick video is shown on the large monitor showing wrestling Manager Magdalena with her new tag team.

The men are revealed to be El Bestia Purpura & El Toro de Oro Jr. She tells them that they are called Purple & Gold because those are the colors of royalty and champions and that is what she expects them to be. She tells them she will accept nothing less than victory!!

Rating F

I kept this short , mostly as a quick introduction to what I hope is one of our main tag teams, but the crowd was restless, obviously wanting some action.

Purple & Gold def Primal Rage & Jesus Chavez two straight falls in 6:30

Match Rating E

Given our small size and the lack of popularity in the area by both teams , this was okay for an opener.

Since I don’t speak Spanish, I brought in a handful of american wrestlers with experience in Mexico to act as go betweens till I pick up enough of the language to communicate effectively with the Spanish speaking part of our roster. Also it gives some of them some exposure outside their usual areas and extra work.

Another video clip plays, showing the team of Daniel & Javier Cano calling themselves The Shadow Warriors, and their manager Carla. She tells them this is their opportunity to show the world the true warrior spirit of their ancient Aztec fathers and says go out there and win!

Rating F

Another short intro section to reveal another hopefully successful tag team for us here. The Cano brothers already are a decently well known team in mexico, and they possess an unique look that I think can really shine in MHW. But the crowd still wants more action and less talk.

The Shadow Warriors def Nomad & Pyromaniac by two straight falls in 5:39

Match Rating E

The Canos dominate in expected fashion and once again given the relative lack of name power in the match and the fact that we are a completely new promotion, the response is about as expected. So far it has been traditional 2 out of 3 lucha style matches, but there is a reason for that…..

Slayyer goes to a no contest with Hugo Garrido due to outside interference at 12:44

Match Rating D

Now that some of the better known names are appearing, the fans are starting to perk up. It helped that Slayyer and Garrido had some decent chemistry also. But while I am pleased with the good match, the real point of this was what followed after the interference….

Slayyer and Hugo Garrido were locked in combat and had worn each other down when suddenly two strange men run out from the back , jump into the ring and tackle both wrestlers!! After delivering a series of blows and slams to both men, the slightly smaller man directs the bigger one to pick each man up in turn, and then brutally toss them out of the ring and through a wooden table! Both tables shatter under the impact of the battered Slayyer and Garrido, and each man lies in an unconscious heap among the scattered wreckage!

Rating C-

I had kept it traditional lucha up till this point, because I wanted to make a bold and shocking statement that things were going to be different here. Judging by the crowd response, the mission was successful.

The younger man, flanked by the larger one, grabs a mike from someone at ringside and says in English ( with the announcer translating in Spanish) “ You people call this hardcore!! I just showed you what real hardcore is!! Mexican Hardcore Wrestling., don’t make me laugh!! It figures your wrestling would be inferior to American Wrestling just like your country is inferior to America!!!” David Mack then takes a sip from a bottle of water, then continues speaking “ See this bottle of water? I had to have this flown in from the Colorado Rockies because the swill you people have down here isn’t fit to bathe in, much less drink!! “

The crowd responds with loud boos and catcalls. “ Yeah, go ahead and boo me! Like I care what you third world rejects think anyway! In America, the name David Mack is treated with the respect and dignity I deserve. I am a true wrestler, admired by fans who matter, fans of the good old US of A!! Not like these pansy ‘champions’ you have down here. My mother is more hardcore than they are!!”

Suddenly out of the back comes Championa Jr!!!

He says “ David Mack , you are in my country, the great country of Mexico! Our history stretches back over a thousand years!! We were ruling this land while your ancestors were still herding cows in the English countryside! If you can’t come here and show us the proper courtesy then I will teach you respect in that ring tonight!!!” the crowd cheers loudly in response to the challenge. David Mack agrees, and the main event is set for later tonight!

Rating D+

Not too bad for my debut in Mexico. I decided for the main storyline, in order to set the stage for the more hardcore style matches I would be introducing, that we would feature a Mexico vs. America confrontation.

Mexican Beast def Verdugo Estupendo in 13:09

Match Rating D+

The co main event featured a couple more decently known men in Mexico, and one with an already built in backstory as both had been enforcers in competing stables in SOTBPW and as such already have history with each other. Both are also large men well suited to the hardcore enviroment and their personal grudge gives me another useful storyline.

Championa Jr def David Mack by two falls in 20:13 following outside interference.

Match Rating C-

The match was contested under traditional 2 out of 3 falls Lucha style, but it was obvious from the beginning that there was no love lost between the contestants. Arrogance cost David Mack in the beginning as he took his opponent too lightly and lost a fall to a quick roll up by Championa Jr. After that Mack was more cautious, and took the match far more seriously. Mack dominated the next 10 minutes with a series of brutal forearm shots, slams, and punishing ground holds, while Championa tried to weather the storm. The fans cheers seemed to rally Championa Jr and he began making a comeback . Championa Jr found his second wind, countered the hold of David Mack, and went on the offensive. Just as Championa was setting up Mack for the second fall and the victory, a masked man came running out of the back and slid into the ring with a chair! The man, wearing a mask patterned after the American Flag, slammed the chair across the back of Championa Jr and the referee immediately called for the bell. Mack and the Masked Patriot, the man who swung the chair, began assaulting Championa Jr further , but quickly slid out of the ring when several luchadors came out of the back to protect Championa Jr.

Mack and the Masked Patriot walked to the back, with satisfied smirks on their faces.

Despite my obvious rust after having only wrestled a couple times in the last six months, the match went as good as I could expect. It was a more than decent main event for a small company at their first show ever and it helped cement what would be our main feud for the next few months. Masked Patriot was a young man with potential I had hired for NYCW, and his gimmick was perfect for my Mexico vs. America storyline, so I asked him to come work here as well and he was happy to get the opportunity.

Overall Show D+

Overall I am very pleased with our first show here. While it is a far cry from a CGC PPV event, and not even on par with our current monthly NYCW shows, it was still a great debut for a start up promotion with a somewhat radical style for the area and almost no buildup before hand outside of the owners name. If we can do as good or better the next month when the initial curiosity has had a chance to wear off, I will be very satisfied.

The show had gone better than I expected, especially given the fact that I was booking an unfamiliar product with a lot of wrestlers I was barely aware of before, and didn’t speak the native language of half of them. The news got even better as the end of month financial report came in. Going in the question wasn’t whether we would lose money at first, but how much we would lose. And having utilized pratically the entire roster on the inaugural show, I was prepared for a sizeable chunk of red ink. Imagine my surprise when we totaled up the balance sheet and found we had actually made a profit of $5000 after sponsership money had came in!! Apparently Championa Jr and his previous world title reigns carried more weight with the sponsors than I had expected. Despite my elation, I had to calm down and remind myself that there was always a lot of curiosity and hype for a new promotion, and now that some of that curiosity had been satisfied there was every chance the second show wouldn’t be nearly this successful. We would have to get a few months under our belts before I had a real idea of our financial position.

One other thing I became aware of was the fierce competition between all the Mexican promotions for marketshare and fans. Championa Jr had warned me that the infighting was brutal between all the lucha companies as Mexico wasn’t as able to support a large number of promotion like America could. With a limited pool of workers to begin with, and not wanting to increase the problems we already faced to be successful, I sent out offers of working agreements to the other 3 Mexican promotions so that we weren’t trying to steal each others’ workers constantly. I had no illusions that it would eliminate the competition for fans and territory, but at least we could keep it somewhat civil and not fight over the limited worker resource.

Predictably, SOTBPW who were on top right now, refused to consider it. However , both OLLIE and MPWF, under pressure to compete with SOTBPW already, quickly agreed to my proposal . This eliminated at least one problem and opened the doors to sharing workers , which gave me more options for the future. Now it would be down to the quality of shows to determine how we did with the fans.

On that score, our strong opening put us squarely in the middle for January. MPWF was slightly ahead for the month and OLLIE slightly behind. Both however had an edge in that each had a weekly tv show to help drive their popularity. I would explore that option for us, but I wasn’t very hopeful, given our product and the unproven status of our company.

As I did my usual perusal of events around the rest of the wrestling world, paying more attention to Mexico than I used to, one tidbit immediately got my attention and brought a smug smirk to my face.

JACK DECOLT has left CGC!!

Steve had already left several months before, but was taking time off to spend with his family so hadn’t taken any offers while I was still there. I had noted in passing that he had taken a contract with TCW a couple months after I had gotten the boot, but I just figured Tommy Cornell had thrown a huge contract in his face, and with their working agreement with CGC, Steve could work at home quite a bit. I had also seen the phasing out of several veterans from the roster like Ed Monton, Jon Jetson and Eric Tyler, as Alex worked towards his philosophy of ‘entertainment’ over sports. But I never dreamed that he would let Jack leave! At the time of my departure, Jack was the second biggest star in the company behind Trent Shaffer, and Jack wasn’t double booking with TCW. Although I haven’t spoken to any of them since I left, I have to think the fact that Runaway Train got the World title instead of him had to have played a part in Jack’s departure. Jack was supposedly in line for the next major push, at least that is what Alex said when he took over from his father. Of course, he also said he wanted to work with me, and I saw how that went. With Alex running everything now, Jack must have seen the writing on the wall, and decided to get out and explore his other options while he was still riding a good wave of popularity and before Alex could bury him. It’s only been 6 months, but the CGC of today is bearing less and less resemblence to what I left in July. It is truly Alex’s company now. May he choke on it!

January 2010

News:

  • Obviously the opening of the Mexican Hardcore Wrestling promotion was a big news item, at least in Mexico.
  • Broadcasting journalism school graduate, 21 yr old Mario Castro let it be known he was looking for an opportunity to do announcing in the Mexican wrestling community. He will need a lot of experience and polish before he gets out of the minor independents.
  • 21 yr old Louie Scorpio enters the professional wrestling ranks in Australia this month. While showing that he could develop into a decent worker with a lot of help, the same shortage of opportunity will hold him back that more talented wrestlers in his area face.
  • Dan Reacher, a color commentator who cut his teeth on the Australian Independent scene is looking to step up. Of course, with only one promotion of note in the entire country, opportunity is slim.
  • The latest incarnation of the Masked Patriot character makes his debut, both in NYCW and in MHW. Although young and unproven, this version looks to have all the tools to make one of the more successful runs with the gimmick.
  • The younger brother of Bam Bam Johnannson, Stig ‘Hercules’ Johannson , makes his debut on the European scene. Although a huge, musclebound powerhouse weightlifter like his older brother, Hercules has taken the time to work on the basics in a wrestling school, so can bring a little more to the table than just raw power.
  • CGC’s Madman Boone, having just won the Canadian title, suffered a major setback after shattering his knee during a match while on a tour in Japan. Best case prognosis is that he will be out for at least a year.
  • (While I obviously wish this hadn’t happened to Boone, part of me can’t help enjoying the troubles Alex is going through this month.)

Signings and Leavings:

  • Alex Decolt continues his remantling of the CGC roster into a more ‘entertainment friendly’ style by adding newcomer Hollywood Brett Starr and former SWF World Champion Steve Frehley. Alex seems determined to make CGC the SWF of the North. Frehley should help fill some of the void left by Jack DeColt’s departure. Also leaving for Japan permanently is Shooter Sean Deeley , who takes a written deal with PGHW.
  • MOSC make the unusual move of bringing in 21CW star Johnathan Faust. This may signal a desire to finally grow out of the small niche they have comfortably occupied for several years.
  • Knuckles head to MAW and replaces the disappointing Jefferson Stardust.
  • TCW adds Jerome Turner as a backstage announcer, who also maintains his slot as the announcer for CGC. Although I wonder if this could lead to Alex making a move in the broadcast booth as well.

Title Changes:

  • Tommy Cornell’s cousin Edward Cornell captures the 21CW UK title.
  • All three of 5SSW’s titles change hands as Etsuko Arihyoshi wins her first 5SSW World title, Raku Makuda & Tomoko Nagatsuka win the tag titles for a second time, and pin up girl Yuma Maruya wins her second 5SSW All-Asian title.
  • Swoop McCarthy, widely considered to be one of the biggest talents down under, captures the APW Commonwealth title for his first major championship.
  • CGC sees a new Canadian Champion as Zeus Maxmillion def Madman Boone before the latter’s departure overseas. In hindsight it turned out to be providential given Boone’s sever injury.
  • The odd pairing of Richard DeColt and Bobby Thomas end the 7 month reign of the Ninja Pimps (Grandmaster Phunk & Fumihiro Ota) to win the CGC tag titles.
  • Kiminobu Kuroki captures the GCG World Heavyweight title for a second time.
  • Matsudaira Morioka ends the 20 month reign of Seiji Jimbo as Hinote Dojo All Japan champion.
  • MAW holds its annual Rip Chord Invitational and the winner this year is USPW’s Warlord Power.
  • British Samurai brings an end to the nearly 3 year long reing of Merle O’Curle as he defeats Curle for the ROF Championship.
  • Bart Biggz sheds his tag team image as he captures his first major singles title by winning the SWF North American Championship.
  • Steven Parker quickly regains the SWF Shooting Star title to begin his second reign.
  • Edd Stone is now a 3 time TCW All Action Champion as he wins the belt.
  • The pairing of American Buffalo and Genghis Rahn, calling themselves the Extremists, end the year long run of the Lone Gunmen ( Rick Law & Wolf Hawkins ) as they take the TCW World Tag titles.
  • Recent signee Lauren Easter wastes no time as she quickly captures the USPW Women;s title.
  • Hell Monkey wins the WLW Universal championship for a 3rd time.

MHW Inaugural Roster January 2010

Now that we had our first show and pretty much all the roster got introduced, it was time to officially reveal who the players in MHW were. Championa’s hired staff were very kind in quickly getting this posted on MHW’s modest website, complete with Spanish and English bios.

Main Eventers:

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Championa-1.jpg

Championa Jr

A former two time OLLIE World Champion and owner of MHW. Is also a central figure in the main event due to his relative skill and popularity to the rest of the roster.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackAvatar.jpg

David Mack

Head Booker of MHW and also in the main event due to a lot of exposure in North America courtesy of being on television for the most of the last two years. Leads the American side of the Mexico vs. America storyline.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MexicanBeast.jpg

Mexican Beast

Primarily known for his tag team with Mexican Ghoul in SOTBPW, his presence in the La Alianza del Terror there has garnered him a lot of fan support and recognition. Enough to place him among the most well known of our roster. Has a rivalry with Verdugo Estupendo as both are enforcers of the competing stables.

Upper Card

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Slayyer.jpg

Slayyer

Having mostly been a tag team wrestler in OLLIE and having several double and triple tag team championships, Slayyer has broken out as a singles wrestler recently, having won the OLLIE World Championship back in Novemeber. Naturally having one of the other Major Mexican promotion’s world champion on our roster is very useful.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/HugoGarrido.jpg

Hugo Garrido

A big brawler who should fit well into the hardcore style here. Had a fairly well known tag team with Grue Slugg, but was a lot less demanding on contract terms which is why he is here and not his former partner.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/VerdugoEstupendo_alt.jpg

Verdugo Estupendo

Best known as the enforcer/hitman of the SOTBPW Stable La Alianza del Terror. Also looks like a good fit for a hardcore promotion due to his size and physicality, plus his ready made feud with Mexican Beast.

Mid Card

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/DanielCano.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JavierCano.jpg

Daniel & Javier Cano

Los Hermanos de Cano, or as they are known here, the Shadow Warriors, are a fairly successful tag team in MPWF where they have held a couple titles. They are here to bolster the tag division, and because ever since I saw their ring entrance, I have wanted an opportunity to work with them.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElBestiaPurpura.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ElToroDeOro.jpg

El Bestia Purpura & El Toro de Oro Jr

Two relative newcomers, but with a good pedigree in terms of trainers. Seemed a natural fit given their styles, gimmicks and ring names, and have potential to be a solid building block for the tag division.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MaskedPatriot.jpg

Masked Patriot

Although the person himself is new, the gimmick is decades old, with this reportedly being the 21st incarnation of the Masked Patriot. Aside from the masked gimmick being an asset in Mexico, the wrestler himself is a solid young man who has potential to bloom. Also fits well in current main storyline.

Lower Card

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JesusChavez_alt.jpg

Jesus Chavez

One of the people I brought in to give more exposure and give me a bridge to the rest of the roster. Also being a brawler will allow him to fit in with the hardcore product.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Nomad_alt1.jpg

Nomad

Despite being Canadian , Nomad speaks fluid Spanish, having roots in Mexico. He is also here as a bridge between the US and Mexican members of the roster, as well as being a decent all arounder. Plus he has potential and he is cheap, making him a welcome addition to a new company.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Pyromaniac.jpg

Pyromaniac

Young and inexperienced, but has a look that fits in a hardcore promotion, and a willingness to take the necessary bumps. Once he gains experience, he could work his way up.

Opener

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/PrimalRage.jpg

Primal Rage

Adding an experienced brawler willing to work cheap, come to Mexico and teach hardcore style to the younger wrestlers who arent knowledgeable about the product.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/GiantBrody.jpg

Giant Brody

Big, cheap, and surprisingly has some lucha style dives in his arsenal. Although a teddy bear in real life, he adds some menace as a potential enforcer, bodyguard figure.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/TheDarknessWarrior_alt.jpg

Darkness Warrior

Formerly part of a very famous tag team with his partner Jay. They held titles in DAVE, SWF, and TCW. Fallen on hard times and was willing to make the move to Mexico to get steady work. Also has value as an experienced brawler who speaks Spanish, and has name value in America. Acts as David Mack’s bodyguard in the America vs. Mexico storyline.

Managers

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MercedesGimenez.jpg

Mercedes Jimenez

Pretty, with trademark red hair, and cheap. She works as Championa’s valet, and also is a licensed masseuse, which cuts down on the backstage chiropractic costs.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Carla.jpg

Carla

Here because I wanted to have relatively decent looking girls to counterbalance the rough looking brawlers, and because she has decent managerial skills and willing to work cheap

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Buttercup.jpg

Buttercup

I could say Buttercup was here because she is a decent road agent and organizer, which is true. But the real reason Buttercup is here is because she is Fern Hathaway’s best friend. Fern , for those who weren’t aware, is my real life girlfriend back in NYCW, and Buttercup is here to ‘keep me in line’ while also honing her backstage skills. Fern trusts me with her because she knows Buttercup is like a big sister to me, especially after all the help she gave me when I was first starting out in the indy scene. Acts as my valet in ring.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Magdalena.jpg

Magdalena

An experienced Valet and manager, she was brought in to add some veteran guidance to the Purple and Gold tag team and because she had some name value.

Staff

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/BenitoSaez.jpg

Benito Saez

A decently skilled and relatively cheap announcer. Not knowing what our financial situation was going to be like, and also being an unknown company, I had to take what I could get. Seems adequate for now, but is an area we could upgrade.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Mastericco_alt.jpg

Mastericco

This was something of a coup as Mastericco, while never a main event player , did have a long career and was well known. Provides valuable experience and insight in the announce booth as color commentator.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MateoIglesias.jpg

Mateo Iglesias

Another decent wrestler with a long career in the ring, he was another coup as a road agent as he was relatively inexpensive given his skill

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/RobertoMendez.jpg

Roberto Mendez

While not the best referee available in Mexico, he is competent, experienced, and affordable.

OOC : Something new for my diaries, PICTURES!!! :)

Yes, I have finally learned how to get pictures into my diary, so welcome to the modestly graphic updated David Mack Chronicles . :D
