TCW: A Quiet Retirement

Recommended Posts

Barry Kingman vs. Tommy Cornell (non-title)

Easy win for the boss.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. The Tag Team Specialists

I just can't go against the numbers.

The Machines vs. Aaron Andrews & Joey Minnesota (non-title)

Joey's got the goods to take a victory over the champs, but Double A isn't there yet. Tyler's right, the kid's got to pay his dues.

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Rick Law

Baine will definitely get involved here, as that feud has cooled off a bit, since the last PPV. Some interference, and a brawl, is exactly what they need.

The New Wave vs. Edd Stone & Wolf Hawkins

Poor New Wave. They're in the unfortunate position of being higher up the card than they need to be, and so have the task of getting over whatever storyline you've got going, that needs the rub. In this case, it's Edd Stone.

Eric Tyler vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

I'd love to see this go to the time limit. That would make my day.

Sam Keith vs. Troy Tornado

Even with the poor chemistry, Tornado and Cornell still got a B+, which is good enough for a rematch. Maybe a stipulation, to up the ante.

With regards to the poll, I was torn between Blonde Bombshell (because of her history with the company), and Johnny Bloodstone (because I'm a NOTBPW mark). Since she's his manager, why not both?

Stealing rules. I only wish I had time to read more diaries so I could steal from more places. I'm a huge fan of seeing characters 'track' from diary to diary, having them not be wildly different from thread to thread. Little nods to previous work always make me smile.

Not to say I enjoy full out plot-stealing and repetition. This diary is fun for me because although our Edd's are pretty similar at a base level, they're on different paths. Same guy. Different events. Nature versus nurture and all that jazz.

Barry Kingman vs. Tommy Cornell - Cornell is a coward. A real Champion puts his title on the line in every single fight.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. the Tag Team Specialists - Midcard two-against-one... numbers game.

The Machines vs. Aaron Andrews & Joey Minnesota (non-title)

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Rick Law

The New Wave vs. Edd Stone & Wolf Hawkins - Edd & Wolf strike me as having an potentially interesting relationship. Lots of parallels. Lots of differences.

Eric Tyler vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Sam Keith vs. Troy Tornado

Barry Kingman vs. Tommy Cornell (non-title)

It's all part of the subtle differences between a heel and a face champion. The heel champion will deem Kingman of not being worthy of a title shot, which lets face it he isn't..the face champion will put the belt on the line no matter what.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. the Tag Team Specialists

Fonzarelli losing this because of the numbers game seems too obvious...usually these handicap contests end up with it back-firing on the team who has the advantage. But handicap matches are very sports entertainment, thought TCW was supposed to be the alternative to the sort of nonsense SWF might put on. :p;)

The Machines vs. Aaron Andrews & Joey Minnesota (non-title)

Andrews is too much of a jobber right now, for me to even contemplate the upset win here...

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Rick Law

DQ win for Buffalo when Baine interferes. Law will far from happy with losing, Buffalo will be far from happy with Baine intefering in his business.

The New Wave vs. Edd Stone & Wolf Hawkins

Well Edd Stone certainly makes an interesting addition to The Syndicate....I'm torn between Hawkins & Stones getting off to a good start and Stone instantly screwing things up. I'm leaning towards the slightly safer bet of the strong 'debut'.

Eric Tyler vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Some kind of draw, perhaps a situation where one has the other pinned and the other in a submisssion and the ref can't call it. Certainly a finish that will extend the programme to at least another match.

Sam Keith vs. Troy Tornado

Tornado should still be kept strong as one of your top babyface challengers to Cornell.

I'm a tad bit surprised so many matches have yet to be booked for Total Mayhem. I see TM as being TCW's WrestleMania, much like Supreme Challenge is SWF's. I guess you don't feel the same?

Barry Kingman vs. Tommy Cornell (non-title)

Pfft. Come on. I actually like Barry, but really.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. the Tag Team Specialists

This is a feud, here. You can't have Fonzarelli beat them both like that, and still have a feud. Unless it's going to end up being like a DX vs. Spirit Sqaud feud.. :p

The Machines vs. Aaron Andrews & Joey Minnesota (non-title)

You know what? I'm going to be daring with this. Andrews and Minnesota win this, to setup a title match at Total Mayhem. Calling it.

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Rick Law

Law's kinda one of the obvious choices for future World Heavyweight Champion, and Buffalo is...um, not. A loss to Buffalo would not be a good thing, quite frankly.

The New Wave vs. Edd Stone & Wolf Hawkins

Can't see Hawkins being on the losing team here. Plus, I've already picked The Machines to get upset, so I can't see Hawkins getting a loss here too.

Eric Tyler vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

I guess I'll call a draw here like everyone else, so we get another throwaway for Total Mayhem.

Sam Keith vs. Troy Tornado

Tornado wins, and he shockingly gets his rematch.. :p

Hmm, all down the right..although, if I picked for Tyler/Bloodstone, I'd have picked Tyler.

I see Malice in Wonderland as being the bigger of the two 'big' TCW shows, their Starrcade, so to speak. That makes Total Mayhem the Clash, and yes, for a Clash this has very few matches announced thus far.

This episode of Total Wrestling also boasts a handicap match, of all things (Tigerkinney's point is well made, and one I agree with) and 'Mr Cornell's matchmaking habits' have been ducking a great many challenges of late (going back, as far as the diary's concerned, into Joel Bryant's tenure s a booker.) All of this *is* tied together and the package and *is* going somewhere very soon - but consider 'Mr Cornell's approach to matchmaking' to be part of what's being changed now there's a new head booker.

...Essentially, the story this is part of is something I could have done starting in Show One of the Horatio Dangerous regime, but I didn't feel it'd have any weight without showing how the situation had been beforehand.

I like these comments and questions - while I can't answer all of them, or answer plainly, without spoilering the diary to hell, it's good to see what people are reading as opposed to what I think I'm writing.

Keep 'em coming, folks.

They're both the top shows of TCW, so you can kinda take your pick. I get that some would go with MiW, what with RDJ finally winning the big one there, which definately seems like a WrestleMania moment. But I go with Total Mayhem. The name sounds like the flagship event of TCW. Plus, it's numbered, and whenever I see an event being numbered each year, I think WrestleMania. Also, TM = WM, easy connection there. And, to be honest, the name of MiW kinda bugs me. It's not really that bad, but for some reason, I just really don't like the idea of a super serious company like Tee-Cee-Dub having a massive Pay-Per-View, named after a Disney movie.. :p

I mean, it's not "Break Like The Wind" by any means, but it's the closest TCW has to it.. :p

As gets covered early in the diary, I maintain that Just Another Day? is the worst PPV name in TCW. I'm also not a fan of Threatening Behaviour ("On this PPV, Tyson Baine dials back a notch to just 'threatening'!") and as such, you won't find either of them being called that under Horatio's watch.

Part of picking Malice In Wonderland was also a stylistic choice - RDJ is THE big face in TCW and I figured he'd be held in mind for the main strap at the Starrcade equivalent. One of the ground rules I set myself was to let 'Joel' book the two obvious big feuds off screen, so as to leave myself no room to rely on the stock opening feuds TCW has once I hit the diary.

I could either work purely on establishing over faces way too fast for Total Mayhem to produce a different marquee match-up, or I could say that Total Mayhem's a Clash equivalent (where the NWA often used to test a new face or two for admission to the big leagues, let's not forget - and now I have to go watch Sting/Flair on the first Clash again. Oh the hardship...) and hope to have certain of the new faces ready in both the game-fan and the reader's minds by Malice. That's the way I went.

Y'know, I did a similar thing with the Psycho Circus results in mine - having RDJ lose out to Cornell (Again. What a feud.) so he goes without a title shot for a while.

And yeah, Total does have quite a few bad names, honestly. I guess they just kept all the old events from the Hollyweird Grappling days, eh..? :p

So the C-Verse 97 database tells us.

I can cope with a lot of 'em. Just Another Day? and Threatening Behaviour just feel too... understated... to be PPV names for me.

I know it's probably not very popular to question that database, but I kind of doubt the realism factor of HGC's inclusion there. I have to think they wouldn't be National at that phase, because 11 years later, they're still just barely (according to some, TCW are close to Cult as it is, in default. I never really noticed.) at National, I feel like they'd be Cult back then. I mean, I know they had Rip Chord and Sam Strong, but hey, XWF had Hulk Hogan. I don't think anyone would've rated XWF as being a National company..

Prediction Key:

Barry Kingman vs. Tommy Cornell (non-title)

Danny Fonzarelli vs. the Tag Team Specialists

The Machines vs. Aaron Andrews & Joey Minnesota (non-title) Aaron gets pinned o course lol.

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Rick Law

The New Wave vs. Edd Stone & Wolf Hawkins

Eric Tyler vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Sam Keith vs. Troy Tornado

On the ppv names Malice In Wonderland is cool with me especially as I don't see it as Disney, the book is much darker and layered with deeper meaning, plus the history behind and of the book is cool.

As with most (early) Disney they took a great read/ Fairytale and kiddyfied it. For those that don't know Ariel aka the little mermaid DIES in the original version!

Kingman ftw. Ok, kidding.

Danny Fonzarelli vs. the Tag Team Specialists

I don't see the Fonz beating 2 guys, although who knows, maybe this is Oxford's punishment for backstage stuff

The Machines vs. Aaron Andrews & Joey Minnesota (non-title)

The Machines need a good win to look strong. Andrews is the guy, presently, to give it to them

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Rick Law

I see Baine interfering and costing Law the match

The New Wave vs. Edd Stone & Wolf Hawkins

Winning start for the new combo. Interested to see where you go with them.

Eric Tyler vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

I'd imagine Bloodstone will get another win to keep him looking strong on his debut run. Might be a draw though.

Sam Keith vs. Troy Tornado

Tornado gets set for another shot at TC

I have to say that I am truly enjoying your characterizations. I abhor base, simplistic face/heel portrayals because I think they insult my intelligence (and it's something I never want to do to an audience). Let the audience decide who they want to get behind. I love Sammy Bach's character and hate Edd Stone's. I love Koshiro Ino's character and hate Wolf Hawkins'.

Keep it going. Looking forward to seeing how you blur lines further!

Barry Kingman vs. Tommy Cornell

No real question here who's the better wrestler. Cornell virtually plays with Kingman, which admittedly allows the man with the pedigree to rally as a casual suplex attempt gets countered. Kingman manages to parlay that into some momentum, moving into a neckbreaker followed by a diving lariat to the neck, showing some of his father's fire.

He has to work hard and fast to keep up with Cornell, however, and after a while the champion pulls back into the lead, landing the Rough Ride soon afterward to finish.

Fury of the Storm hits partway through Cornell's celebration and Troy Tornado makes his way to the ring, face to face with the man who overcame him last PPV.

“Last chance,” he says. “You can make our rematch yourself, Tommy.”

Cornell smirks. “Not happening,” he says. “And just in case you came out now because I've wrestled, just in case you thought you'd have the advantage... Sam?”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SamKeith_alt2.jpg

Sam Keith arrives, strutting down to the ring, as Tornado keeps his distance from his opponent tonight.

“Now,” Cornell says, “I already told you once, Troy. I'm not wrestling you again. Matter of fact, I think I'm going to take Mayhem off. I've been wrestling all month, I deserve-”

“Bad move,” Troy says. “Wait til you hear what the Board-”

“You know that ain't gonna wash,” Tommy sneers. “The Board don't pay enough attention, Troy, they leave me to run my company. I've got the power, and you don't get your match-”

It's not music anyone in TCW is used to hearing. In fact, it's not music anyone's heard in well over a decade.

“The thing is,” Tornado declares, “I kind of expected this reaction. And I've been talking to the board.

“What I was saying was, wait til you hear what the Board decided. And I was going to tell you myself, but...”

Another figure emerges.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MayhemMidden.jpg

“Well, Tornado smiles, “I'll let him tell you. Mr Cornell – Syndicate members – LAYDEES AND GENNULMEN – I give you the Board's new representative, a man who knows wrestling inside and out – Mayhem Midden!”

“You're not on the Board!” Cornell bellows, jabbing an accusing finger.

Midden just nods. “Nope,” he says. “The Board are what they always were, Tommy. What you wanted them to be.

“Venture capitalists. Financiers. Your silent partners. People who'd give you the money because they wanted to make money. Not people who watched wrestling.

“Turns out a few of them have kids, though, Tommy.

“Kids who listen to Painful Procedure. A concert ticket, some shirts, a signed CD or two...

“Surprisingly small price, but it bought their attention for just long enough. A pitch was made.

“Someone to make sure your ego doesn't run this company into the ground. Someone to make sure your 'Contract Killer' there doesn't destroy the spirit of competition. Someone to deal with-” Midden breaks off, disgusted. “God, man, you put together a handicap match tonight. That's no kind of fair decision! What the hell kind of joke of a wrestling company makes matches like that?”

“Someone who'd make the matches the fans want to see.

“Me.”

Keith scoffs. “Midden, seems to me I fought you enough times in the eighties. Seems to me I won pretty much all of them. What makes you think you can stand up to-”

“I can't,” Midden says softly. “Really. I haven't wrestled in more than fifteen years. You'd destroy me. Hawkins would destroy me. The Machines. Even Stone. I'm not denying it. You guys are good.

“But here's your problem, Sam. You can bust me open, break my bones, knock me out, put me in hospital, leave me for dead.

“What you can't do is make me reverse a decision by doing it. And before you can get to me, you know what?

“Cornell, your title's on the line at Total Mayhem against Tornado. No interference allowed, from Hawkins, Keith, Stone, the Machines, or from Painful Procedure – either of those means trouble for both of you.

“And to make sure all this works – RDJ, congratulations, you're guest enforcer on the outside.” He pauses to let the implications sink in.

“While we're at it – Hawkins, stop ducking Ino. Total Mayhem you two go at it again. Belt on the line. No DQ. If the Procedure are chafing about not being allowed in the main match, then I suggest if any of Wolf's buddies show up they run interference here and work out their stress.”

The Syndicate members in the ring really don't look happy at all this. Midden grins. “Now there's some other arguments going on,” he says. “Make your cases for Total Mayhem tonight or make them in the bar afterward, but make them. I'll soon see what's what.”

Danny Fonzarelli vs. the Tag Team Specialists

This was never going to be a great match. Fonzarelli fights gamely, doing his best against the Specialists, but when you're against two men it's never going to be easy. And these two men cheat.

Fonzarelli puts up the best fight he can, and it's actually clear that he's developing as a wrestler, but nonetheless the weight of numbers is too much and the One Shot Drop, when it comes, comes from Bryant this time, not Fonzarelli.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/FloydGoldworthy.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/AmericanBuffalo.jpg

As we return from commercial the cameras take us to the locker rooms, as Floyd Goldworthy talks with the American Buffalo.

“...really think this should work,” he says. “Law's been getting a lot of time in those adverts for the new show, so we trash him and we've got to be next in line for the big one.”

“I hope so,” Buffalo growls. Goldworthy opens his mouth, clearly nervous, but doesn't yet respond – and then his cellphone rings.

“I gotta take this,” he says. The camera follows him out of their locker room. He closes the door behind him...

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TysonBaine.jpg

Tyson Baine abruptly has him jammed up against the wall by a forearm to the throat. We can see him holding a cellphone in his free hand; he shuts it off, and Goldworthy's cell stops ringing.

“Your buddy,” Baine says, his voice as always something that sounds like it should come from a grindstone on boulders rather than vocal cords. “Total Mayhem. Last... Man... Standing.”

“N-now-” Goldworthy splutters, then halts, denied breath. “I...”

“That... or I break him. Tonight.” Baine seems to shudder abruptly with a painful memory. “He knocked me from a stage. I will go... further.

“There is an elevator to this building's roof.”

He lets that sink in. Goldworthy nods abruptly and, with a savage growl, Baine releases him and stalks away.

Andrews & Minnesota vs. The Machines

The fledgling tag team have a hell of a climb ahead of them as this match started, and they rose to it gamely. Minnesota in particular seems determined to turn his recent poor form around.

As he goes for it, however, the Machines seem to realise that trying to outmatch Joey one on one isn't working. Rapidly they turn it into a four-man brawl, everyone in the ring, and with Ray Johnson trying to prevent Anderson from bouncing Minnesota's head off the ringpost, someone takes their opportunity.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EricTyler.jpg

Eric Tyler jumps Aaron Andrews from behind, paying him back for Andrews' recent distraction tactics. A Weight of Tradition leaves him down and out as Tyler heads back to the back.

The Machines take advantage of this, continuing an assault on Minnesota. The Ammo Dump doesn't get the three, nor does the King of the Hill. Moments later Minnesota powers his way back to his feet despite the Complete Package submission hold and somehow converts it into an Empire Spiral, only to be jumped by Anderson.

Seeming not to realise that Johnson's attention is on him, Minnesota replies to Anderson with a kick to Anderson's crotch. The Machines carry the day as the new team are disqualified.

American Buffalo vs. Rick Law

Goldworthy is conspicuously absent from Buffalo's side as Buffalo makes his entrance.

It's a hard fight, though not as good as it could be – Law and Buffalo aren't exactly gifted with great chemistry, quite the opposite – but the fans still get behind Law, responding to his undeniable charisma as he plays to them, battling against the behemoth.

Buffalo manages to get the upper hand after a while, gorilla pressing Law and then flicking him backward over his head. It's not something Ray Johnson expected, and the impact puts the ref down.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TysonBaine.jpg

At which point, needless to say, Baine arrives. A Stampede is dodged and Baine goes for a clothesline only to meet one of Buffalo's own.

Both men go down with huge impact, Baine rolling out of the ring. Law recovers shortly afterward and, as Buffalo makes his way back to his feet, comes off the ropes and smashes him down with a Long Arm of the Law. That seems to be enough...

A slickly-produced video airs next; the greatest moves and moments of both Sammy Bach and Edd Stone since each man arrived in TCW, spliced in with shots of Edd being revealed to have joined the Syndicate, both mens' part in the closing minutes of last week, and Sammy's promo from last week overlaid:

“After the arguments, the criticism, the challenges. After that petty round of spite because I can do something the Boy Wonder can't...

“Finally, I'm given a name.

“A Stone. The names come no bigger.

“Edd... you will bring me closer to immortality. To legend. Your fight against me will rouse the fans and burn our names into legend.

“It will cost us, it always does. A tax levied in pain.

“And it will cost you more than I as I keep my title with me, as you fail.

“But I'm sure your friends can help you back up afterward. I'm sure you'll rely on that. And I'm sure that's why you'll fail.”

The New Wave vs. Wolf Hawkins & Edd Stone

While an excellent tag match, this one's fraught with odd moments.

Edd takes the majority of the early stages of the match, really able to display his style to best effect, particularly at one point where Guide goes for a powerbomb, only to discover that YOU CAN'T POWERBOMB EDD STONE as the Party's Over counters.

Just as Edd is getting ready to cover, however, he notices Sammy Bach standing at ringside and promptly vaults to the top rope, leaping forward in a shooting star press. Bach moves clear and Stone lands in his feet, immediately swinging with a kick; Bach ducks it and, as Wolf jumps Guide in the ring, Sammy dropkicks Edd into the crowd barrier.

Both Guide and Scout go up against Wolf Hawkins now as Edd recovers. Dodging a superkick, he drops Bach with, of all things, Wolf Hawkins' signature, the Full Moon Rising enzuigiri kick, immediately following which he goes into a Karate Kid pose.

The match continues for some while with Hawkins now in the ring, and someone else makes an appearance at ringside.

She's wearing a black leather bodysuit with, splashed across the chest, a crimson version of Koshiro Ino's facepaint.

“That's-” Shawn Doakes begins.

“Don't say it,” Azaria says. “It's bound to be under trademark.”

Hawkins stares at the logo and Scout capitalises, instantly clamping down the Special Force. With Guide blocking Edd Stone – with, literally, a cross body block from the top rope – Hawkins fights gamely but eventually taps.

Eric Tyler vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Simple, solid, straightforward Canadian technical action. While most of it was good, there are a dearth of standout, citable moments – just reliable work that kept the crowd interested.

This one really is most notable for the Tradition Lift – a standing double-arm clamp – being countered into the Bloodstone Mutilation as Johnny manages to flip backward – into the pain – behind Tyler, legsweep, and then flip forward again to reverse the pain. After that, Tyler taps fast.

Sam Keith vs. Troy Tornado

For the first time in years, Jason Azaria can't keep up with the match. Doakes and Dangerous do their best to back him up, but even that isn't enough; they're left behind in places, confusing in others. It's somewhat frustrating, but the match does make up for it.

Tornado and Keith both seem to be operating on pure crowd energy here, driven, flying, working so fast and hard to keep the fans entertained, and Keith keeps it all tied together neatly.

It could fall either way on numerous occasions but – in the end – the Star Maker is harder to see coming than the Neutron Plex, and Tornado hits home where Keith got countered. Simply brilliant reactions throughout, however.

Cornell, obviously furious, hits the ring. As Tornado watches for his assault, it abruptly seems less likely; not only RDJ but also the Young Guns arrive.

With the entire main event of Total Mayhem in the ring, Tornado feels safe to turn his back, collecting a microphone. “Bad news for you, Tommy,” he says. “Harry and Steve talked to Mayhem too.

“For the second month running, two matches will be Procedure against Syndicate. This time, the Young Guns are going to take your Machines belts and end that year-long reign.

“And that'll just set up for when I! Take! Yours!”

A lot of variation in how people expected the matches to go.

Two people, however, managed the clean sweep in their picks:

foolinc and Hyde Hill.

Consider that stolen. Love it. Shades of Billy Kidman,

Agreed. Of course, I've only come across that little meme in diaries... are you Dukes in disguise, PS?

And as for Paine and Buffalo in an elevator, I demand that there be a delay before the doors close, and we get to hear a muzak version of Copacabana (or similar) before Paine punches out the control panel, an evil grin on his face as the doors close on him and an unconscious Buffalo lying slumped in one corner.

<strong>Wednesday May 24th 2008</strong></p><p>

I've been waiting to speak to someone now for three hours. Their plane touched down near where we're holding our house show tonight (I think it's Peoria) about an hour ago, and it looks like they've finally arrived at the airport.</p><p> </p><p>

How do I know this? I know this because Sam Keith – who's effectively doing road agent duty on the current house show leg – just called me, which means that Eric Tyler has got to the arena.</p><p> </p><p>

Let me give you the timeline; last night, after the show, an autograph hunter managed to snap Eric's considerable patience. Someone was there with a phone, and these days there's a good chance that means video footage.</p><p> </p><p>

Which, as Eric Tyler is a pretty big name for wrestling fans, usually means the footage will be up on the internet.</p><p> </p><p>

The confrontation happened around midnight, I'd guess; not long after I'd pulled out of the parking lot myself and headed for the hotel. At that point, Eric would've been up for twenty hours after about three hours' sleep, the uncomfortable consequence of a dedication to his training and his work coupled with an entirely understandable desire to spend as much time with his wife and daughters as possible.</p><p> </p><p>

Words were exchanged – I don't know what – and hassle was had. The fan tugged the back door of Eric's car over, reaching inside. Looking, I guess, for a souvenir.</p><p> </p><p>

Tyler grabbed him by the belt and yanked him out. One tug, all the way clear and dumped on his rear. Considering how heels felt free to treat fans when Eric's career got rolling, the fan got off lightly. I doubt he was even hurt, just shocked.</p><p> </p><p>

Eric closed the back door, pointed at the fan, said something indistinct and drove off.</p><p> </p><p>

That was around midnight. Around 2 a.m. the footage showed up on YouTube.</p><p> </p><p>

Around noon, the wrestling websites found it during their usual post-show YouTube hunt.</p><p> </p><p>

Around 4 p.m. someone at <em>our</em> office found that during their daily trawl.</p><p> </p><p>

Around 4:30 my cell rang. I promptly called Sam, who was already at the Peoria venue, and asked him to get hold of Eric for me.</p><p> </p><p>

Seven-thirty. Eric's match, Sam tells me, is due to start in about fifteen minutes.</p><p> </p><p>

I make it quick. I understand why, personally I don't think you overreacted, they're busting our balls, Jennifer Cornell texted me to tell me Tommy was on the phone with an ESPN reporter hungry to take shots at pro wrestling, next time rein it the hell in or there'll be trouble.</p><p> </p><p>

Eric isn't happy, I can tell, but he takes it well enough. We talk around other things – mostly his planned program with Law, although when he hears what's planned for next month he seems pretty OK with that instead – and he leaves me to go show Chance Fortune how we used to wrestle.</p><p> </p><p>

What the hell is going on with our veterans right now?</p>
