Episode 528

It is the episode of SmackDown that has been ten years in the making!

SmackDown celebrates its tenth anniversary in style, bringing some fantastic action to the Fleet Center in Boston. Its a once-a-decade show that will showcase the very best of the WWE Universe, all on one show. In fact, every WWE champion will be in action!

The present and future of the WWE will be facing off in a 10-man tag match that features talent from all three brands! ECW Champion Christian will captain a team comprised of Matt Hardy, MVP, Mark Henry, and Tommy Dream against a team captained by Christian's ECW rival, William Regal. Regal will have some of the WWE's best young talent on his side, including Legacy, Drew McIntyre, and one half of the Hart Dynasty, Tyson Kidd.

Former partners and friends John Morrison and The Miz will be on opposite sides of a six-man tag match, which will see the Intercontinental champion team up with the United States champion, along with the spark plug Evan Bourne. That trio takes on The Miz, Jack Swagger, and Dolph Zigger.

All of that pales in comparison to the main event, which just might be the most talent assembled in one WWE ring at a single time on television. WWE World Heavyweight champion CM Punk will team up with Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and the Big Show. That quartet takes on Triple H, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, and the Undertaker. This one guarantees fireworks just days before Hell in a Cell!

It won't just be the in-ring action that is memorable, however. Vince McMahon will be in Boston and he has another announcement. After changing the General Managers of both Raw and ECW earlier this week, Mr. McMahon has an announcement regarding the future of SmackDown. The chairman of the WWE has promised that SmackDown will never be the same!

Do not miss SmackDown's tenth anniversary celebration, only on My Network TV.

DH Smith vs Batista

Beth Phoenix & Michelle McCool vs Mickie James & Melina

Christian, Tommy Dreamer, MVP, Mark Henry & Matt Hardy vs William Regal, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Drew McIntyre & Tyson Kidd - I've tipped these blokes because that Drew McIntyre looks like a hella good power talent.

Dolph Zigger, The Miz & Jack Swagger vs John Morrison, Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne - the ultimate man love goin on regards to Jack Swagger twisted my arm here, ordinarily I'd tip John Morrison any day of the week because frankly he is just scintillating, but I'll go Jack Swagger and the boys.

John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels & The Undertaker vs CM Punk, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho & Big Show - the ole smackeroo, the heels win, set up the chase from the faces ya ya ya. Plus, I am a Big Show fan (at least, I was a The Giant fan)

DH Smith vs Batista

DH Smith has more of a future but Batista is the present.

Beth Phoenix & Michelle McCool vs Mickie James & Melina

Why? Because Beth is quite possibly my favorite Diva.

Christian, Tommy Dreamer, MVP, Mark Henry & Matt Hardy vs William Regal, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Drew McIntyre & Tyson Kidd

It probably won't go this way but I'll be rooting for The Innovator of Violence.

Dolph Zigger, The Miz & Jack Swagger vs John Morrison, Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne

Don't care for Ziggler

John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels & The Undertaker vs CM Punk, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho & Big Show

A draw in a donnybrook! Ohhhh, BAH GAWD it's a SLOBBERKNOCKER!

DH Smith vs Batista

The Hart Dynasty have so far been the equivilant of Badd Kompany in their opening months. They continue to JTTS their way on up here.

Beth Phoenix & Michelle McCool vs Mickie James & Melina

Bigger named team, in my opinion.

Christian, Tommy Dreamer, MVP, Mark Henry & Matt Hardy vs William Regal, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Drew McIntyre & Tyson Kidd

Up-and-down, the heels are just out-gunned in this match-up.

Dolph Zigger, The Miz & Jack Swagger vs John Morrison, Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne

Heels should probably win atleast one match tonight, and I predict this to be the one. Plus, all three of the heel team are challenging for midcard belts at Hell In A Cell - one of them pins Bourne, to further build them up for it.

John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels & The Undertaker vs CM Punk, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho & Big Show

Faces win, as "specials" should really end that way.

Thanks for all the predictions, guys. Just wanted to say that I'm hoping to get the show done and up sometime this weekend. Always intended for this to be more casual, but motivation is even tougher than I thought. Doesn't bode well for the long-term prospects of this, so don't be expecting Gen-S level duration. But there are a few shows I'd like to get through yet.

Main reason I'm posting this is that I managed to leave off a tag match off the prediction sheet. Fairly minor one - Cryme Tyme against Kane & Knox. Debated whethe to include it on the show, and decided to. Just figured I'd better mention it so people don't wonder what the hell is going on.

Jim Ross: Good evening fans. We are live from the Fleet Center in Boston for SmackDown's 10-year anniversary show. And its going to be a big one!

Todd Grisham: Huge! But I can tell you one thing, JR... I would not want to be Theodore Long right now!

Jim Ross: Neither would I, Todd.

Vince McMahon

In-Ring Promo

For the third show this week, the show begins with the Chairman of the WWE making his way down to the ring. He climbs into the ring, struts around a bit, then takes the microphone. He tells the fans that he's had a pretty good week so far. A very good week. Two of the three brands have had changes in management and are now set to move into a new era for the WWE Universe. But that still leaves SmackDown to be dealt with. McMahon lets the sink in for a moment, then says that these kind of things are better done face-to-face. Its more fun that way. So he demands that General Manager Theodore Long come out to the ring

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/WWE%20Workers/Staff/Small/TheodoreLongSmall.jpg

Theodore Long

The GM emerges quickly to a positive reception and makes his way down to the ring. He looks worried. He climbs into the ring and greets his boss, but quickly gets cut off. McMahon explains that when he made Long the GM of SmackDown for second time, back in April, he had high hopes. He was expecting great things. He was expecting aggression and innovation. Simply put, McMahon has been disappointed. That's why Long ended up on probation. And that whole stupid incident with screwing over The Undertaker last month almost got him fired... McMahon let's that hang, looking at the GM to see if he'll respond. Teddy looks like he wants to say something, but then he just nods his head.

By rights, you should be fired, McMahon growls.

But that's not going to happen, he says after letting the previous statement hang for a long moment. It seems that Teddy has some friends in the locker room who spoke to Vince this week to plead to keep him around. Long looks endlessly relieved. However, Vince isn't done. He says that Teddy will remain on probation until he proves that he can run SmackDown the way it deserves. And to make sure that Long lives up to expectations, Vince is assigning him an Assistant General Manager. But not just any Assistant General Manager... No, this will be one who gets things done. One who the fans and the wrestlers have to respect. A legend...

The crowd erupts as the very familiar sound of breaking glass plays, followed by music that belongs to a true legend...

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/WWE%20Workers/Staff/Alt/Small/SteveAustin2Small.jpg

Steve Austin

The man they call “Stone Cold” struts out onto the stage, the Boston crowd screaming their approval. He gets down to the ring in a hurry, then spends a moment going to each corner of the ring to motion at the fans. Then he finally grabs a microphone.

Austin starts by announcing he's back. The crowd goes insane, and takes a long time to quiet down again. He turns to Teddy Long, telling the GM that he's going to make sure Teddy does his job and does it damned well, or Stone Cold will be opening up a can of whoop ass. And that's the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so! The crowd erupts on cue at Austin spouting his catch-phrases. A relieved-looking Theodore Long shakes Austin's hand while McMahon grins with satisfaction.

Jim Ross: Stone Cold is back! I don't know just what to say!

Todd Grisham: Isn't it usually “Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold!”

Jim Ross: Indeed it is!

DH Smith vs Batista

This one goes about how you'd expect, with “The Animal” controlling most of the action. The big youngster Smith does manage to get some offense of his own in, but it doesn't last long, even with Natalya trying to help her brethren out. A Batista Bomb puts Smith down for the pinfall. After the win, Batista holds up two fingers and makes the belt motion around his waist, apparently indicating that he and Rey Mysterio are going to win the Unified Tag Team belts at Hell in a Cell.

Batista Wins at 7:22 via Pinfall

Todd Grisham: What a huge addition to the SmackDown roster Batista has been!

Jim Ross: It'll be bigger if Batista and Mysterio can win the Unified Tag Team championships on Sunday!

R-Truth, MVP + Mark Henry

Backstage Segment

R-Truth is in a small locker room, putting his bag down and looking around. There's a knock on the door and when he turns, its MVP and Mark Henry filling the open doorway. The duo are in street clothes, and they greet R-Truth like old friends. They talk for a moment, discussing how hyped they are for the 10th Anniversary of SmackDown. R-Truth admits he is disappointed that he isn't in a match tonight, but he's just happy to be here. MVP says they best go get ready for their own match, so they depart.

R-Truth goes back to his bag, but is suddenly sent flying. The camera turns and Drew McIntyre has rushed R-Truth....

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/WWE%20Workers/Workers/FCW/Small/DrewMcIntyreSmall.jpg

Drew McIntyre

McIntyre continues the assault by putting the boots to R-Truth. The beat down is vicious but its also short. After a series of stomps, McIntyre stops to admire his work, grinning a bit. He then turns and walks out, in no particularly hurry, as R-Truth tries to pick himself up off the floor.

Todd Grisham: I think I understand what Mr. McMahon sees in Drew McIntyre... he's ruthless, just like Mr. McMahon!

Jim Ross: You've got that right.

Cryme Tyme vs Kane & Mike Knox

A fairly standard short tag match. The team worker of Cryme Tyme gives them the advantage in the first few minutes, but the vicious power of Kane and Mike Knox soon come through. The victory comes from a surprise appearance by Dolph Ziggler at ringside, which provides just enough of a distraction to allow Knox to his a Knox Out on Shad Gaspard and grabs the pin.

Kane Wins at 6:21 via Pinfall

Maria, Dolph Ziggler, Kane & Dolph Ziggler

Backstage Segment

Maria is wandering through the backstage area when she finally comes upon Ziggler, Kane, and Knox. The trio have just come from the ring. They are talking conspiratorially, but it can't be heard as Maria bounces up to them. She grabs Dolph in a hug that clearly surprises him, and he half-shoves her away. She doesn't seem to mind, saying she wondered where he went. Then she turns to Knox and Kane, and asks Ziggler why he's hanging out with these two. Clearly annoyed, Ziggler says that he's trying to take care of some business so she should just run along. Maria nods with her big-eyed look, but does not leave. Shaking his head and looking exasperated, Ziggler explains to his girlfriend that she needs to understand that there are different areas of his life, and some of those don't include her. He then turns to the two big men beside him, saying that he has somewhere that they can talk in private, as he leads Kane and Knox away. Maria waits for a moment, and then follows.

Beth Phoenix & Michelle McCool vs Mickie James & Melina

The Divas tag match might have four of the top Divas, but its still a Divas match. The match is fairly short, with a good pace and constant action. The lack of teamwork between Phoenix and McCool dooms the team. An disagreement between the two of them allows James to hit a Long Kiss Goodnight roundhouse kick on McCool, and although Phoenix could interrupt the pin attempt, she chooses not to.

Mickie James Wins at 5:23 via Pinfall

Todd Grisham: That team of Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool didn't have much in the way of teamwork!

Jim Ross: You could certainly say that!

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/WWE%20Workers/Workers/SD/Small/CMPunkSmall.jpg

CM Punk

In-Ring Promo

CM Punk gets a pretty negative reception as he comes out, holding up the WWF World Heavyweight championship victoriously. His smug demeanor makes the crowd hate him even more.

He begins by saying that its fitting that the 10th Anniversary of SmackDown celebration is tonight, just days before the Hell in a Cell pay per view. Because tonight they celebrate SmackDown's past. In two days, Punk will destroy The Undertaker in the Phenom's own match and they can all celebrate SmackDown's future... CM Punk. The Straight Edge world champion and the choice of a new generation.

When the boos die down, Punk tells the fans that he could never respect Jeff Hardy. Not as a champion or as a person. WWE champions should be people that children can look up to as a role models and Hardy was far from that. The Undertaker is a different story. For all of his flirtations with the dark side, The Undertaker remains a respectable individual. There was even a time, back when Punk first arrived in the WWE Universe, that he even feared the Man from the Dark Side. But he has since learned better. And beating The Undertaker at Breaking Point convinced Punk that the Dead Man offers nothing for him to fear. Even facing in The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell doesn't intimidate Punk at this point.

Smirking, Punk then examines his title belt for a moment, then explains that being the WWE World Heavyweight champion offers plenty of benefits. Benefits that some don't understand how to take advantage of. But the Straight Edge World Champion is not one to miss out on such advantages. And since Mr. McMahon at SmackDown tonight, the champion has already taken the opportunity to take his request right to the top to make sure it happens. Someone as intelligent and visionary as Vince McMahon clearly sees where the future of the WWE lies... and Punk points at his own chest as the fans boo.

Those boos suddenly turn to cheers when the lights go dark and the familiar bells begin to ring. It can be only one man... The Undertaker!

But its not the Undertaker who emerges when the lights go back up. As CM Punk stands in the ring with stark fear on his face, it is instead...

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/WWE%20Workers/Workers/SD/Small/MattHardySmall.jpg

Matt Hardy

This gets a bit of a mixed reaction from the fans, some of whom do not appreciate the deception. But many are laughing at CM Punk along with Matt Hardy. Then Hardy gets serious, standing on the stage with a microphone as he says that was a bit of payback from a month ago, when Punk pretended to be Jeff Hardy. Because like all of tehse fans here, Matt Hardy has not forgotten that it was Punk who is the reason that Jeff Hardy is no longer part of World Wrestling Entertainment. One that Punk is going to learn is that a Hardy does not forgive or forget... much like someone else!

There is a roar from the crowd as The Undertaker is suddenly in the ring behind CM Punk. The Phenom grabs the world champion by the throat and stares at him. Punk eyes are wide with fear as he looks panicked. Taker goes to lift Punk for the choke slam, but Punk lashes out and kicks the Dead Man square in the shin. Its enough to loosen the grip and he squims out, diving out of the ring.

Punk has dropped the WWE World Heavyweight championship belt however. Undertaker slowly reaches down and graps it, then holds it up high while the fans cheer and CM Punk glares from outside the ring.

Jim Ross: Looks like Punk forgot something!

William Regal, Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre + Tyson Kidd vs Matt Hardy, Christian, Tommy Dreamer, MVP + Mark Henry

A fast-paced and messy tag match, with the faces showing decent teamwork but the heels having problems. William Regal clearly tries to assume the role of team captain, but Drew McIntyre is having none of it and ends up arguing with Regal, allowing Dreamer to go for a quick roll-up pin that almost works. The heel team does manage to isolate MVP, mainly due to some good work between the Legacy duo, but he eventually manages to take in Mark Henry. The big man cleans house until Kidd hits him with a missile drop kick square in the back. It looks like the heels will take over, but some great work by both Christian and Matt Hardy gives the fan favorites the advantage back. MVP ends up getting the pinfall on Kidd after a Drive By kick, with Dreamer and Christian keeping the other team from interrupting the pin. After the match, the heels argue in the ring, which culminates in Drew McIntyre slapping William Regal, who then has to be retrained.

MVP Wins at 10:15 via Pinfall

Jim Ross: Young Drew McIntyre giving William Regal no respect!

Todd Grisham: Apparently no one taught McIntyre to respect his elders.

Jim Ross: I guess not.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/WWE%20Workers/Staff/Small/VinceMcMahonSmall.jpghttp://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/WWE%20Workers/Staff/Small/TheodoreLongSmall.jpg

Vince McMahon + Theodore Long

The still-GM Theodore Long is seated in an office with Vince McMahon. Assistant GM Steve Austin is nowhere to be seen. The two are deep in discussion, and Long looks rather distraut. He tells McMahon that it isn't fair. The Chairman responds by saying that fair has nothing to do it with it. The GM then asks if it will be all of them. Any of them who want to continue to compete, Vince confirms. There still has been on clear confirmation about what they are discussing.

With finality, McMahon states that as of Monday, all WWE Divas who want to remain as in-ring competitors will be moving to the Raw brand. Any who choose to remain on SmackDown or ECW will have to do so as managers or interviewers or whatever. McMahon further explains that Long was told to make sure the Divas on SmackDown were featured regularly and yet there have been precious few Divas matches over the past month. Long tries to explain that Michelle McCool was out injured, but he's cut off by McMahon saying he doesn't care for excuses. Its done. When Long then says losing them is a blow to the SmackDown roster, but McMahon cuts him off by saying there will be adjustments. He allows that to hang as he grins. All the General Manager can do is nod.

Todd Grisham: No more Divas on SmackDown?

Jim Ross: I'm speechless.

Todd Grisham: I'm heart-broken.

John Morrison, Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne vs The Miz, Jack Swagger & Dolph Ziggler

With less men involved than the five-versus-five tag, this one feels much less sloppy. It centers around the two separate feuds – Morrison-Ziggler and Miz-Kingston. There is some interesting tension between Swagger and Miz, who will both be involved in the threeway against Kofi at the PPV. The middle section of the match is particularly fun, with former tag team partners Miz and Morrison facing off and going at each other hard which makes for a fast-paced and quality sequence. Morrison is slowed when he takes a boot in the back from Swagger, but Miz yells at Swagger instead of going for the pin. Morrison manages to take in Bourne, who bounces all over the ring for a bit. The end sequence sees Miz deliver a Skull Crushing Finale to Kofi, but Swagger tags himself in and gets the pin while Miz is distracted by John Morrison. The heel team doesn't get to celebrate as Swagger and Miz scream at each other.

Jack Swagger Wins at 12:14 via Pinfall

SmackDown 10-year Anniversary Video

A beautifully-produced video plays, highlighting some of the greatest moments in the history of SmackDown. It particularly focuses on the great work of Eddie Guerrero, but notably leaves out Chris Benoit entirely, and has very little on either Kurt Angle or Brock Lensar.

Jim Ross: What a history! What a show!

CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Big Show & Randy Orton vs John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels & The Undertaker

Hyped as the “biggest match in the history of SmackDown”, the match is certainly entertaining. Its chaotic, with the referee struggling to keep things under control. There is constant interference, switches without tags, and plenty of action outside the ring. There is a nice brawl outside between D-X and Jeri-Show, the two teams obviously having some tension between them. It culminates in HBK delivering a Sweet Chin Music to Chris Jericho, CM Punk getting a Pedigree, and Big Show receives an Attitude Adjustment, leaving Randy Orton in the ring alone. The Legend Killer is surrounded by the four babyfaces, who let Orton think about what's coming before they lay into him. The four take the time, each delivering their own finisher to Orton. The crowd goes insane. But they make a mistake by not going for the pin, which becomes apparent when Big Show climbs back into the ring and hits Shawn Michaels with a knockout punch. Punk and Jericho are soon back in the ring, and in the midst of the brawl, Punk manages to pin Michaels to take advantage of the chaos and get the pinfall.

CM Punk Wins at 16:21 via Pinfall

The Undertaker, John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Big Show & Randy Orton

Post-Match Showdown

Obviously upset at Punk stealing the win, the faces clearly the heels out of the ring, who are only too happy to avoid further fight. Jeri-Show gather up their belts, while Punk steals back the World Heavyweight title that Undertaker brought down to the ring for the match. The heels quickly disappear while the babyfaces say in the ring.

The “Biggest Show in SmackDown history” culminates with four the of biggest stars in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment standing in the ring, defeated but defiant. Its a long close-out as the theme music of each man plays and they get a chance to play to the crowd.

For me started out little slow, but you clearly put on a great show towards the end. Very well done and you did a great job as I could easily see this being a big show to celebrate 10 years of smackdown.

The Mark

SmackDown Review

Friday, Week 1 October, 2009

The go-home show leading into the Hell in a Cell pay per view left me fairly conflicted. The SmackDown brand is significantly changed all of a sudden and I'm not sure if its for the beer.

So not only do we not get rid of Teddy Long as GM, but we also get to turn back the clock a decade by adding Stone Cold. Why to enter "a new era", WWE! Seriously, if The Rock and Mick Foley made a return at the PPV, woudl anyone be surprised? The WWE sucks at building new stars right now and I'm not sure that adding Austin as the Co-GM or whatever he's going be helps with that.

The Divas no longer on SmackDown? I'm thrilled! Then again, what do they do with the time that they took up every week? If it goes to giving Batista three-times the airtime, I am not in support of it.

The SmackDown 10-year anniversary video gave me chills (the good kind) and enraged me (the bad kind) at the same time. Will never forgive Chris Benoit for what he did but I will also never accept the WWE erasing him entirely. Pretending some terrible never happened does not make it okay.

I'm probably overrating the show as a whole because I found the main event massively fun. Sloppy but fun. It certainly wasn't a great match, but it entertained me. And the close-out to the show was pretty damned cool.

DH Smith vs Batista

That is definitely the way to build up new talent, WWE - feed them to Batista so he can team them how to work lazy and sloppy. At least Smith got some offense in, which probably has more overrating it.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/VS/StarSmall.jpghttp://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/VS/StarSmall.jpg

Beth Phoenix & Michelle McCool vs Mickie James & Melina

If this one had been a bit longer, I'm sure the fans in Boston would have been chanting "You F*cked Up" for all the botches. Good times. Divas add so much!

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/VS/StarSmallHalf.jpg

Christian, Tommy Dreamer, MVP, Mark Henry & Matt Hardy vs William Regal, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Drew McIntyre & Tyson Kidd

I really have no idea what the purpose to this match was. It seemed so random and really didn't drive forward any stories. I kept expecting something between Legacy and MVP-Henry or at least Christian and Regal, but it never really happened.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/VS/StarSmall.jpghttp://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/VS/StarSmall.jpghttp://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/VS/StarSmallHalf.jpg

Dolph Zigger, The Miz & Jack Swagger vs John Morrison, Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne

A fun match that at least made booking sense. Some good action, too. I marked for the Morrison-Miz showdown and it left me hoping the E can find a way for them to feud at some point.

John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels & The Undertaker vs CM Punk, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho & Big Show

I honestly figured there was no way the super babyface team would lose, especially given Triple H and Michaels were part of it. So the opportunist pin by Punk took me by surprise. Funny how the heels win and yet the faces still manage to be the ones standing tall at the end. I actually liked that. I'm probably overrated this one as well, due to being blinded by the massing of star power in that ring.

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed.

And thanks everyone for all the predictions.

Figured I'd steal a technique from Gen-S and throw out a few thoughts about the booking and a bit more...

-I'm honestly not entirely sure about the Steve Austin as Assistant GM thing. Changing up the GMs was one of the things I decided on early, as it makes sense for why things would be changing. But with Shane to Raw and Stephanie to ECW, I struggled to come up with a way to change SD. My first instinct was to replace Teddy Long with John Bradshaw-Layfield, but I saw that done in several other projects which kinda convinced me not to. Ric Flair was another option, but I didn't think he ever had anything to do with SD that I could recall and see him more as a manager than in an authority role. One of the earliest data sets that I started messing around on (likely on EWR at that point, if memory serves) had Stone Cold on the WWE roster so it kinda fell into place and I just ran with it. In a basic sense, I think would be a bad idea as it would take attention away from the new stars SD is building, but its the kind of mistake the E might make...

-since I'm basing some of these shows on the actual shows still at this point, I didn't want the main event to be identical. Plus the heels stealing a win felt "right".

-bit of a rant here and it does have some "real" WWE spoilers, so be warned....

Anyone who watched Bragging Rights saw Batista turn heel by turning on Rey Mysterio. Not really unexpected or particularly creative, yet a good move. But it annoyed me. Simply for the fact that it something I had planned on doing in the not-too-distant future in the diary. It shouldn't bother me, but it does. Its not the only idea I had that ended up happening before I could play it out - Kofi dropping the accent in a comedy segment, for one. I can't really say why these bother me, as it does show there is some basis in "reality" to my booking, but it ends up making it feel like I'm doing "my own thing" enough at the same time. For this and a few other reasons, I'm starting to feel like a "current day" start wasn't the best idea. Either some point in the near past, such as post-WrestleMania, or a random point in the future, where I could create a backstory up to that point, would have been better. Ah well...

I know 100% how you feel there. I have a segment that I booked in "Blood, Sweat, and Tears" last night, and have already finished the write-up today, that could be seen as somewhat close to something that's happened in the WWE in the last 2 days. When I saw it, heard it happened, I got pissed... As you said, Not because I didn't like the WWE's segment of it... BUT... That I didn't want it to seem like I was merely ripping off their idea.

I say f*ck it though... Go with it. If you wanted to turn Batista, even if it somewhat resembled something that the WWE just did, then maybe just put a small twist on it and make it unique in a way.

Great work. Love the new diary!

Ha! Love your brutal honesty on the Batista turn. Damn those WWE-ites!

I think Ric Flair could carry an authority figure role. It turned to absolute gold for me when in DOWCW, I was tragically struck down by the news he was retiring. Well, Ric wrestled a retirement match epic finale against Sting, reminiscent (at least in my heart as to how I was booking it) of some of the 45 minute struggles they had, and then was announced as the new President. The great thing for this mad Four Horsemen lover was that it allowed me to create the Horsemen, as a heel group, which of course normally Flair would have been a part of, but their objective was to destroy him. It was the most fun I've had with TEW.

I think Stone Cold would be great, and I hope to see a lot of 'rebelling' to change things up from him.

Know how you feel about the reality mirroring something you have planned as you don't want to seem to be just copying and you thought you had a good idea. Same can happen with diaries as well someone having a similar idea as Flair with Smackdown* But conversely reality becoming way different then your diary can also be annoying, its just something you need to learn to live with and overcome. I struggled with it (, and the data flaws,) and in the end decided that the story I wanted to tell was paramount so I chose to keep on running.

* Flair actually started the roster split with smackdown and raw when he revealed he had bought Shane and Steph's WWE shares post Surviver Series that ended "The Invasion" so it can be made fitting.

I live in costant fear of WWE running angles similar to what I'm writing. When I was nearing the "Drug Testing Episode" of the Frontier Combat Kingdom (which I had planned from the very start of the project) WWE kicked off the CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy feud. Every Smackdown, I fully expected Punk to force Jeff to submit to a drug test and steal all of my thunder before I got to that episode.

I got lucky that time, but I'm sure they'll make me look like a fool in the future.

It shouldn't annoy me nearly as much as it does, to be honest. And yeah, I'm just gonna run with it.

There are a couple of things with the coming Hell in a Cell PPV that I had planned from the start that ended up playing out very similar on the real PPV. Again, annoying. Its likely to happen in almost any diary, I think, but seems fairly likely in a real world one. Just an aspect of it that I never really considered.

Yeah, I guess I should have been more clear. I'm pretty sure Flair did have stints in WCW as commissioner, and I do think he could do fine in the role. The problem is that I don't know if I would have written him well enough for that spot. I think I would have ended up going to the over-the-top Flair, which to me works better as a manager than as an authority. And that's what I'm not sure about with Stone Cold - whether I will write him "correctly" for the spot. I think JBL would be the most natural for me to write for that spot.

I guess its just inherent to doing a current day real world diary, moreso than other types of diaries. Just not something I considered clearly enough before jumping in, but its a learning process.

See, I don't think I knew that about Flair. If I did, I forgot. There are some viewing gaps in my WWE history and therefore some knowledge gaps.

Oddly, its not something I ever really worried about with my Gen-S diary. Just didn't consider it. Looking back, there were more than a few bigger moments and ideas that I would have been crushed if something similar happened in "reality" around the same time.

WWE Hell in a Cell 2009 Preview

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/WWE/Logos/PPV/HIAC.jpg

Credit to FINisher for the poster!

Sunday, Week 1, October 2009

They call it "Satan's Structure". And its coming to New Jersey three times tonight as World Wrestling Entertainment rolls into the Prudential Center in Newark for the Hell in a Cell pay per view event!

Its going to be a night of firsts. This event is the first time there has ever been more than one Hell in a Cell match on a single event. Its the first time John Cena, CM Punk, Ted DiBiase, and Cody Rhodes have had to partake in the most feared structure in Sports Entertainment. And its the first time a Hell in a Cell tag team match has taken place.

Can a second and a third generation star take down two of the biggest names in the game? That is the task at hand for Legacy. The duo of DiBiase and Rhodes are not only participating in the Hell in the Cell for the first time, but they are facing two men who are both experienced at being inside that soul-crushing cell.

Can "Mr. Ziggles" take the Intercontinental title away from "The Fight Night Delight"? It seems like Dolph Ziggler will not rest until he gets the belt from John Morrison.

Kofi Kingston faces an uphill battle to keep his United States championship. He faces not just one but two opponents, both determined to become champions themselves.

John Cena vs Randy Orton. A rivalry for the ages. Two opponents who have faced each other countless times and know each other very well. This is it. The end. If Cena successfully defends the WWE Championship, then Orton will never get another chance at it while Cena is champion.

The main event is a chance for CM Punk to prove that he truly is "the choice of a new generation". Unfortunately for Punk, defeating The Undertaker in the match that he made famous is no easy task.
