Point of interest. The current top 3 dynasties all feature Edd Stone. There's a tip for prospective writers. If you want awards, use the 24 Hour Party Animal. He's awesome.

You know, you may be on to something. The NAPC was pretty much a filler team to help boost the tag division when they first came up, and back then, I only finished 2nd in the Rookie polls, at most. Now that they've developed into a regular fixture of the shows, I'm but a single vote away from tying for DOTM.. (For the third time in two days! WOO WOO WOO! :p)

<p>I'm holding off voting for the time being because I've not been on the boards much recently and am not up to date with the diairies at present - sorry to those guys whose diaries I regularly try to predict and comment on.</p><p> </p><p>

As for the 'old guard' issue - as a primary school teacher, I get this all the time. 'So-and-so has done it before, so give someone else a chance'. And as a choir director as well, I get it with 'so-and-so always get the solos rather than other people'. In the first example, I can kind of understand - they are kids and they should get a shot wherever possible and things should be shared around. In the second example, they are adults and, in my opinion, the best person for the job will always get the solo. Here, we're adults. I don't think we need to mollycoddle each other and 'give everyone a chance'. If a diary is honestly the best in that month, I don't care if it's been voted DOTM 6 times before. If it's the best, it deserves the honour. It's for others to match up to it.</p><p> </p><p>

Plus, if anyone here is simply doing a diary with the sole aim of being DOTM, they should stop right away. It's a nice added bonus if you win it. There are so many good pieces of writing on here that, to me, just being nominated is already reward enough for writers. That said, my inclusion in this month's voting is pretty scandalous given my recent output and I'm actually pleased to have got no votes as I certainly don't deserve any this month! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

this is a bump

now on a more preachy note. A general theme of complaint seems to have emerged that the same people win over and over. but when we have truly deserving person, with the numbers to match (Zeel1) it looks like he may well come up short to a writer who has already won twice this year.

I am in no way saying you should or should not vote for Self, I am just saying voting for Self really takes the wind right out of the argument that people don't want the same person recognized several times a year. :p

I'm glad you think I'm deserving, but I really don't mind being at something of a disadvantage. The diaries that have been entertaining people for nearly a full year are always going to be more beloved then ones that just came up a couple of months ago. Honestly though, I don't know if that's even the case. This is my first month of eligibility, and I'm two votes away from a two time winner. It would certainly seem as though people are ready to give me the chance.

Thing is though, the old gaurd is typically going to have an advantage, because they've obviously built up a bigger fanbase. Just like me with Gen-S in the last few months - if you've got one diary that's your absolute fav, that you'd put above all others, then naturally, you'd vote for it every time it's up there. Diaries that have won multiple times have thusly had the biggest number of people who think they're the best, and if people think that way, then that's not likely to change very quickly.

But as I said, I don't think this is a case of the old gaurd getting favortism. I've gotten 11 votes, and the poll's still going to be up for a few more days..I've no complaints.

This isn't an old school vs new school battle. Nobody should feel pressured by their beliefs on anything other than which diary they thought was the best last month. That's the only thing that should matter. I don't want special treatment because I'm old school.

Still freaks me out that I'm considered 'old school'. Much like Zeel, the very first time I was eligible for the big dance, I did very, very well. So despite my two wins (although one was a draw) it's not like I slowly built up to it.

I'M NOT OLD!!!

I'd love to say I've read them all (I usually try) but this month has been crazy busy for me, so I've been reading and not even commenting a lot of the time.</p>

<p>Some of us needed to get Old Guardish.</p><p> </p><p>

I mean, yeah, PPPW (diary #4) got the Rookie vote. And then, while consistently nominated, lost out all the way until the final month.</p><p> </p><p>

TCW: A Quiet Retirement (diary #5) got the Rookie vote. And then, while consistently nominated, has so far turned in second, third or fourth.</p><p> </p><p>

If people start complaining about long-running diaries showing a lot, then really, I gotta say meh. I went around a year in total before my first win, another seven or eight months before my first DOTM win, and I may well take as long to get another if I do.</p><p> </p><p>

Some of us do need the longevity, frankly, just to get the build in.</p><p> </p><p>

Looking at the diarists who've been going longer than me who got nominated in the C-Verse... Dragonmack took heavy breaks, ditto NoNeck, and the others <em>are all Hall of Famers</em>.</p><p> </p><p>

Now maybe you meant they won more often than I have.</p><p> </p><p>

On the other hand, looking at the diarists who've been nominated this month who've won more than me...</p><p> </p><p>

Well, Self has a co-win over me, unless the Rookies cancel that.</p><p> </p><p>

Oh, hey look - the others are Hall of Famers, NoNeck and D-Mack.</p><p> </p><p>

So OK, maybe I'm a problem too. if that's so I'm afraid we must agree to disagree.</p>

<p>Never won a Rookie Award. The first time I was nominated I ended up a respectable midcarder, and <em>I wasn't even nominated</em> in the second month I was eligible. The hazards of a fictional promotion, I guess.</p><p> </p><p>

That or my month 2 output REALLY sucked.</p>

(I know that occasionally the Real World noms are down to the two or three biggest names) It comes down to the fact that people want to take part, both by nominating and by voting later - so when the one they want to nominates' been taken, they often move on to the next.</p><p> </p><p> Without changing the people voting, I don't think that'll change, and how can we fairly change (read: limit) the people eligible to vote.</p>
