To clear some time to prepare something had to go and that was the Q&A section. So if you had a question, expect it to be answered by Tuesday.

Anyway like I said in my last update, the pool of cheap workers ($150 and under with no travelling costs) is really small. In fact there are only 10 males that fit the criteria: Chris Flynn, Dusty Bin, Eric Blackey, Jeremy Jazz, Jerry Martin, Lion Heart, Randy Maxx, Stretch The Chicken Boy, Trauma, and Weird Waldo Odlaw. A quick look at these guys and you can see why didn't choose a "project" with one of my four main eventers. A few useful pieces but overall a lot of meh. Since we need 12 wrestlers on the roster to fulfill the minimum requirements at the local level I signed up everyone but Trauma and Weird Waldo Odlaw. After setting their alignment, gimmick, and hitting the "automatic pushes" button, this is what the roster looks like.

Main Event

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/75x75pics/DavisWayneNewton.jpg

Name: Davis Wayne Newton

Age: 20

Weight Class: Middleweight

Wrestling Style: Regular Wrestler

Wage: $450

Finishing Move(s): Fisherman's Suplex, STF

Alignment: Face

Gimmick: Blue Chipper

Theme Music: "Superhero" by Jane's Addiction

Bio: "The Triple Threat" Davis Wayne Newton is a young wrestler who is loaded with potential. A naturally gifted athlete who could excel at any sport, he brings a superb all-round game to the table, being able to brawl, counter wrestle, or take to the air. Other than injuries, there doesn't seem to be much that can stop the blue chipper from Toronto becoming a major player. He made his pro debut in May 2007, working for 4C, having been trained in America by the legendary Rip Chord.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/75x75pics/Raphael.jpg

Name: Raphael

Age: 20

Weight Class: Lightweight

Wrestling Style: Regular Wrestler

Wage: $450

Finishing Move: Magnum Opus (Shiranui)

Alignment: Heel

Gimmick: C0cky Youth

Theme Music: "Hold Me, Kiss Me, Thrill Me, Kill Me" by U2

Bio: Debuting in late 2004, Raphael seemed to be little more than a pretty boy with very limited skills. However, through sheer hard work he has turned himself into a fine worker, and is now considered a very bright prospect indeed. That effort was paid off in 2006, when he caught the eye of Professor Nero, who was on the look out for new talent for RIPW, and Raphael headed to New England.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/75x75pics/TempestAppleby.jpg

Name: Tempest Appleby

Age: 32

Weight Class: Lightweight

Wrestling Style: Cruiserweight

Wage: $400

Finishing Move: Tumbleweed Elbow Drop (Split Leg Elbow Drop)

Alignment: Face

Gimmick: Dancing Fool

Theme Music:

Bio: Tempest Appleby, "The Mover From Vancouver", is a very fast lightweight worker, who has an awesome range of top rope moves at his disposal. He joined 4C in the summer of 2004 for his first taste of regular work, and became one of the company's hottest properties, thanks in part to a fantastic series of matches with Joey Poison that immediately established Warren as a major contender. In retrospect, that proved to be something of a false dawn; once the feud with Poison was over, Warren dropped down the card in rapid fashion, and by the time of his release in 2007 had been drifting aimlessly in the midcard for over a year.

Upper Midcard

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/75x75pics/ChrisFlynn.jpg

Name: Chris Flynn

Age: 19

Weight Class: Middleweight

Wrestling Style: Regular Wrestler

Wage: $150

Finishing Move: Single Leg Boston Crab

Alignment: Face

Gimmick: Blue Chipper

Theme Music: "The Best Around" by Joe Esposito

Bio: "The Graduate" Chris Flynn is a rookie worker who made his pro debut in August 2007, working for 4C in Canada, having been trained by the promotion. It's off-set by Tempest's low cost ($400), but still it's a bit shocking to see that I am paying $150 more money for Warren than Davis Wayne Newton. Other than the Warren's somewhat usual high cost, the only really thing of note is that I will be using the DeMento alter ego for Dusty Bin. Why is this noteworthy? Because back in the days of TEW 2007 I requested that alt for Mr. Bin. I was looking at that picture for a solid 5 minutes trying to figure out if that was one of mine or not. Should have just scrolled down. Had no idea Adam made an Alter Ego for it though. It makes my heart smile.

I won't pretend i'm upset at the lack of Trauma! You have no idea how integral he was (is?) to my diary. Maybe i'll actually get round to writing it all some day <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

As for the tournament, can't see you putting it on anyone but DWN. It's the 'smart' choice, if not the 'impassioned booker' choice.

As long as there is one day out of the month that the workers you are going to book that month is available then you are fine. Scheduling really becomes a problem when you hit Regional and start running shows just about every week and aren't popular and/or prestigious to get top priority.

Having both top Canadian companies offer him contracts isn't that big of a deal because of their non-compete relationship. However, with a guy like DWN there is a good chance that an American indie like NYCW or CZCW comes knocking on the door. So, you point does still stand about being fearful that Davis could be leaving the company.

However, after trying to figure out a good way for you guys to vote on the tournament (unfortunately the basic account for SurveyMonkey only lets you have 10 questions) I decided it was probably better go a different route. Besides the first two prediction cards would more or less have involved you guys redoing your predictions from the tournament prediction and I doubt you guys would want to do that. Instead I am going to talk about the overall concept I had when planning out the tournament.

Besides figuring out what title you are going to have your wrestlers fighting for, the first thing that you need to do is figure out the structure of your tournament and how long you are going to be running it. There are a lot of different ways to run tournaments from the simple single elimination knockout tournament to a round robin to even a hybrid of the two (think the World Cup). You also have to decide on the length of the tournament. Will it take place in the span of one night or will the tournament be run over a number of events?

For this diary I decided to go with a simple 16 man tournament that will run over the length of 6 shows. The first two shows will cover the opening round, the third will cover the quarter finals, and the last three events will have the semi finals and finals as their main event matches. In my opinion this is an effective way to introduce your roster as you are able debut each of your wrestlers initial gimmicks and alignments in first two shows and still have a third show set in the books before you need to work on building feuds that don't involve the championship title. Another pro of the extended tournament is that you are able to make the best use of the top matches. The semi-finals and the finals of the tournament will most likely be rated a good deal higher than the rest of the matches and for a company as small as our would be a waste if we used them all on just one card. I would also recommend this for bigger companies because booking a lot of high quality matches could lead you into booking yourself into a corner and running into the 3 match penalty.

Now you might be wondering how I am going to run a 16 man tournament with a 12 man roster. The solution to this little question is talent trades. For those of you that haven't use this feature of TEW, talent trades allow you to trade a worker of your company for a comparable worker in popularity from a different promotion. There are some restrictions for these workers such as only being able to be traded for up to 3 shows, not being able to trade for a companies' champions, and that the traded talent have creative control (which basically means they won't lose to a worker that is a lower popularity than them). That said they are a great way to add a bit a variety to your roster for whatever reason.

To fill out the tournament, I traded for four workers that were making around $100 per appearance. Using workers that are somewhat popular in the States like Jerry Martin, Raphael, and Warren Technique, I was able to trade for FCW's Amo Del Gato and El Hijo Del Zonk and MAW's Jefferson Stardust and Riley McManus for 3 shows each (Tip: Even if you only plan on using your traded wrestler in one or two shows always trade for three. You never know when something is going to go wrong and you might need that wrestler to fill in and usually you are going to want the guy you traded to the other promotion to get as many chances to get on their cards to gain popularity and skill increases).

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/pics/AmoDelGato.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/pics/Zonk.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/pics/JeffersonStardust.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/pics/RileyMcManus.jpg
These four aren't going to be winning the title, but don't count these guys out to win a match or two.

With our tournament set and booked, we also have to fill out the rest of the card for the three events that aren't fully booked. There are a lot of directions to go for these matches. Unless you spend yourself into oblivion, you can really do no wrong. Because of how good the semi-final and finals should be you could even get away with rolling with random matchups if you wish. However, I would recommend that you use the undercard of the semi final cards to build to the card that the tournament finals will be held on (filling the remaining time with a couple of random matches between unused wrestlers if necessary). This way you can get started on some of the other feuds and storylines that don't relate to the title contenders, something that could really be important if for some chance that your top title contenders were to get injured and/or stolen from you.

Now that I've explained a bit on my views on how to build a tournament, it seems like a good time to talk a tiny bit about the 2nd Assessment. Like I was saying before I was going to have you guys predict the events of the tournament from start to finish, but I ran into some complications. So instead this assessment will have four questions that you are going to need to answer to complete the quiz: Guessing the 1st WCCW Intercontinental Champion, the man said champion will beat in the finals, two workers that will be forming WCCW's first official tag team, and the two men that will begin a singles feud. There are also a couple of optional questions that you can answer if you wish. These are clearly marked and please don't feel like you have to answer them.

Up Next: On Friday we will go over the results from the 2nd Assessment and will preview WCCW's very first event, Wrestling For Shoes.

*Assessment #2: Tournament Prediction*

With the first chapter well under way, I guess this as good as time as any to officially confirm which promotion will be the subject of chapter two. It should be no surprise to anyone who's read the diary preview section, but the next promotion we'll be taking for a spin is....
