<p>WWE is actually doing (very) good by me lately, and is probably (for the first time in recent memory) my favorite in the new wrestling show department. I also like ROH's TV show, and think they're on the way up. In other news, I've been watching a promotion called TCW on one of the channels I've stumbled across on the Dish, (it's Traditional Championship Wrestling, so no Tommy Cornell, Wolf Hawkins, or Sammy Bach, sadly). It's ok, they have Lance Hoyt, and occasionally Tarver from the Nexus, Zach Gowen, Matt Hardy, and more recently Tommy Dreamer. I didn't even know the company existed till I saw it in the listings one night.</p><p> </p><p>

TNA mainly makes me scratch my head nowadays.</p><p> </p><p>

I'll admit I'd like to see Sting sign with WWE... but mainly because I very much want a Sting DVD that only WWE has the rights to produce, (his matches with Muta, Vader, Flair, Cactus Jack, all the classics). Maybe he could sign a legends deal or something.</p><p> </p><p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">NXT Review:</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Neville vs Breeze</strong> - Started slow but turned into a good match with Neville winning. I'd love to see more matches between these two.</p><p>

<strong>Parker vs Jordan </strong>- Debutant Jason Jordan (an athletic amateur wrestler) lost this quick match.</p><p>

<strong>Dallas vs Rawley</strong> - Mojo got the crowd behind him but his moveset is weak. Dallas is a great heel but with his bland style and ironic character I fear he'll flop on the main roster.</p><p>

<strong>Kofi vs Rusev</strong> - Better than their last match. Kofi made it 1-1. It's a shame the usually good Full Sail crowd spent half the match chanting crap like "Feed me more, Goldberg, We want tables" and doing the Mexican Wave. They better not pull this crap on the WWE Network live show next month.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Verdict:</span></strong> Average show. The first and last matches were worth watching. The announce team of Saxton, Phillips & Tensai is improving. MVP: Alexander Rusev. The man is a straight-up brute heel.</p>

<p>Main Event felt completely off the rails this week to me. Anybody else get that?</p><p>

4 Ryback appearances where he just comes out and goes around the ring, "Bad News" (Wade) Barrett cutting an almost nonsensical promo that got almost no heat, and the 3MB business with Brad Maddox?</p><p> </p><p>

I think it needs some sort of regular authority figure (who also runs Superstars) to tie everything together and keep things from, well, going off the rails again like it did this week.</p><p> </p><p>

That being said, the matches themselves were pretty decent.</p><p>

Kofi/Axel - nothing really that we haven't seen before out of them. WWE needs more guys for these 2 to face because it already feels like they've faced off a hundred times this year and it's only 18 days in!</p><p> </p><p>

Sandow/Sin Cara Hunico - I've never seen this match before, and other than Ryback, it was actually pretty damn good! Team SC up with Ziggler and Sandow with somebody else and we've maybe got a good Main Event tag match main event to look forward to. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

PTP/3MB - Really short. What else is there to say? Oh, except that Darren Young wasn't playing the face-in-peril role as much as usual.</p><p> </p><p>

3MB/Los Matadores & El Torito - much better match to watch. El Torito is a got-dang treasure and Los Mats should do trios matches more often JUST so we can see more El Torito spots. Did you hear that crowd for him? "TAG IN THE BULL! TAG IN THE BULL!"</p><p> </p><p>

As Main Event goes, it gets a solid 7/10 from me, with 10 being "a perfectly done Main Event episode" (which has yet to happen, btw...in my opinion, the highest rating a Main Event has gotten would be 8 or 9) which itself could be about 7/10ths to 8/10ths of a perfectly done SmackDown episode, proportionately adjusted for ME's 1hr runtime compared to SD's 2hrs.</p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Smackdown Review:</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>NOA vs RhodesDust</strong> - OK match. NOA got the win after Vicki came out to talk about the Rumble and Cody got distracted. I won't mind if NAO take the titles off the Rhodes Bros so long as they drop them to The Usos.</p><p>

<strong>Del Rio vs Rey</strong> - They work well together but Creative should give them an interesting reason for their feuds other than their Mexican backgrounds.</p><p>

<strong>Bray Wyatt</strong> - Interesting promo as always. Sounds like he had an abusive father whose expectations he couldn't live up to, before he found Sister Abigail and accepted his inner monster.</p><p>

<strong>Tamina vs Naomi</strong> - Noteworthy only for a horrendous botch. Kudos to Naomi for completing the match. Time to call up the less botchy NXT divas.</p><p>

<strong>Big E vs Fandango</strong> - OK match.</p><p>

<strong>Renee & The Shield </strong>- A+ backstage interview.</p><p>

<strong>Real Americans vs The Usos</strong> - Zeb in a wheelchair with a neck brace got a huge reaction from the crowd. The Usos were taped up after the cage match in a good show of continuity. Fun match. Zeb got wiped out and The Usos won.</p><p>

<strong>CM Punk</strong> - Called out The Shield and NAO. Kane intervened and tried to smooth things over. Punk dissed him and got a chokeslam for his trouble.</p><p>

</p><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">

Verdict:</span></strong> Disappointing show. Filler episode in the lead-up to the Rumble.</p><p> </p><p>

<p>Couple of thoughts I have but first, thanks for the reviews, as always guys! I love the insight and opinions, especially when I know I'm probably not going to watch it. My only gripe is sometimes I think you leave out storyline plots, although I really have no idea since I didn't watch them (Main Event, Next, etc.).</p><p> </p><p>

On Sting vs. Taker, I believe that the obvious reason it's been a dream match, is because of the similarity of their most famous gimmicks. Sting as his "Crow" type character, and Undertaker with the "Deadman" character. Similar "mind game" gimmicks, and having essentially "double" in the way the whole feud could play out. In my opinion, it would be worth it just for the build and the thousands they would spend in special effects, which leads me to my next thought/opinion.</p><p> </p><p>

For me, I love when they do "Old School Raw". I like to see the old guys, some favorites over the years, people I grew up watching or what have you. I don't ever expect them to actually get in the ring, I just like seeing them every now and then to see how they look, wonder if they might still have a little left in them, etc. It's all "Feel Good" stuff that would only work once in a while, so once a year is nice. If someone seems to be able to still go a bit', I don't have a problem at all for them to have another 'go' or whatever you want to call it, it's not like they are going to be around very long, and it's not like the younger guys can't wait every now and then. IMO, most of them could benefit in just watching and learning, and maybe stealing a few things here and there from them.... maybe then they could become popular enough that an old timer coming back for one last time wouldn't take any time from them, because they would be too important to. Half the guys that are midcard (I said half, not all), aren't even half as popular as these old "Midcarders" were (and still are). </p><p> </p><p>

I seen someone say something about Steve Austin in an earlier post about what kind of shape he is in, as if it was bad. He's not 25 anymore, but he's not exactly broken down either. He's stated that he could handle a good two year full time schedule, but want's to be able to fish and hunt for the next 20 to 30 years pain free. He's also stated he wouldn't do it if he couldn't perform at 100%, so if he did come back, he would probably shock most of the recent posters here, even more then Ricky Steamboat did up against Chris Jericho. All my point really is, is that he's not in nearly as bad of shape as people seem to believe. </p><p> </p><p>

All in all though, I understand all the comments made, and many times I have had those same thoughts in my head. I can understand, and more times then I can remember, I have thought exactly the same things. I can't help but to look at the bigger picture though, and now that I'm one of those "Old Fella's" that they are probably trying to entertain with these memory type shows, I actually appreciate them for doing it for me.</p>

Remembers talking to Jesse Ventura when he was like 22 or so and wrestling in Hawaii <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Granted, I don't watch wrestling as much as I used to but every time I've seen The Uso's, they've (the commentators) mentioned their connection to Rikishi and/or the Anoaʻi clan. More often than not it's just in passing though like when one of 'em hit a Samoan Drop or Running Hip Attack. Let's face it, they're both talented in-ring workers but they haven't got anything else going for them character wise so they should actually use the connection more.

I haven't heard the connection mentioned in the same breath as Roman Reigns though, not since his stay in NXT and certainly not in connection with The Uso's but I do recall them mentioning he's a second/third generation superstar on WWE but without specifically mentioning which family. In kayfabe terms, it wouldn't make much sense to mention the relation.

By the way, that JBL Bingo card cracked me up. I have to say, during his absence I was one of them calling for him to come back because he was genuinely funny with the headset and also believable as both the colour commentator and just as someone who knew wrestling inside out but since he's come back, he's been woeful. I don't know whether WWE have almost put the reigns on or he just doesn't care any more but he just doesn't add anything original to the programming. The colour commentator is almost a dying breed, and that's not just in the 'E. Gone are the days when that spot is reserved for the wittiest, most humorous members of the roster and it's a crying shame.

<p>I spotted something a few weeks back about WWE signing "Jasper Orton, Randy Orton's cousin" to an NXT contract. I went 'huh, should be interesting' and carried on with my life.</p><p> </p><p>

Today I went poking about and wound up on the Wikipedia page for a certain someone and discovered that Jasper Orton is actually "Jasper Orton-Heidenreich". Guess who daddy is?</p>

Just watched a few clips from RAW and boy...

1) Not a fan of this 'new look' Batista. Skinny jeans, a little nose piercing much like a 16-year old girl would have, zero charisma, and about 2/3 the size of his former self. Wow. That fell flat for me.

2) John Cena/Randy Orton brawl looked really weak. I like both of these guys. I mean, they bring some entertaining aspects to the show. That said, John Cena's punches looked super-duper fake, his irish whip into the steel pole looked really awkward, and the overall concept felt like a re-hashing of years gone by (only less interesting).

Yeah, I could easily do without Batista returning in all honesty. Same for RVD. RVD has never done anything for me, and as you say, Batista's return was pretty lackluster.

I can see why they are doing it for WM30, but I hope after this year they start to build properly for the future, stop bringing the old guard back all the time, and actually put the effort in with the future superstars so that we care about them enough for them to be the main attractions at Mania's for years to come.

Ziggler, Rhodes, Big E, Sandow, Cesaro, Barrett, Shield members are some that immediately spring to mind. Drew McIntyre even, I was very hopeful for him.

<p>Batista's return was a little lackluster but it's probably because he was expected to return. He probably would've gotten a much bigger pop if he came back unexpected like Brock and Rock did.</p><p> </p><p>

That being said, Im admittedly a Batista fan (although Im a little disappointed that he didnt come back as a heel) so Im willing to wait and see what they can do with him for WM30. A Brock feud would be an instant draw. A Taker rematch would be predictable but most likely a good-great match. As long as the ADR feud doesnt continue past RR Im ok with whatever they do.</p><p> </p><p>

I agree with the DB article as well. The Authority angle was tailor made for Bryan to win the RR and re-gain the title at WM. If WWE doesnt try to capitalize on Bryan in some way this will be their biggest waste of potential talent, even a bigger waste than Punk since Punk at least got his 434 day run out of the WWE.</p>

<p>Well in western wrestling it's always been like that but over the past few years in Batista's absence the top guys have also been really, really good workers.</p><p> </p><p>

Bryan, Punk, Sheamus, Cena, and Orton can all deliver high quality major matches as well as fringe guys like Ziggler, Jericho when he's around, Show with the right opponent and story, Henry even had a good match with Cena, etc</p><p> </p><p>

Batista just isn't up to par and I would be satisfied at least from a quality standpoint with any of the names I mentioned plus Brock who is always awesome. He just seems out of place in today's WWE as far as the in ring work is concerned because even Cena for all the hate he gets (sometimes justifiably) he was in 2 of the top 3 matches of 2013 for WWE.</p>

Can anyone give me a logical explanation for why they're making Brock look completely pathetic? I really don't understand making the one guy who's actually proven himself to be a legit bad-ass, look helpless against someone anyone with knowledge knows he'd destroy.
