I could have sworn WWE had already put the cabash on that ROH show at MSG. I definitely remember being righteously indignant in WWE's general direction over it. If that's not the case, and the show is indeed a go, then cool. Here's hoping for an awesome show!

:)

ROH/New Japan show. It's possible Mark Cuban the billionaire owner of AXS and the new NJPW President Harold Meij (who is pro global expansion) convinced MSG to play ball.

Is the ROH stream actually working for anyone? I'm on HonorClub and it's been saying "Live Broadcast Will Begin Shortly" for a half hour. Show was supposed to start 22 minutes ago at the moment.

*edit*

According to ROH's twitter the show starts at 7EST, but everywhere I saw said 6EST. Must've been a miscommunication or failed time conversions.

Final Battle thoughts

Kenny King defeated Eli Isom- First time seeing Eli and the match was fine for what it was. A nice opener that gave Eli some time to shine, but the veteran picked up a solid win.

Jeff Cobb defeated Hangman Page- Match of the night in my opinion. They worked their asses off and had some chemistry as opponents. I'd like to see this match revisited at some point.

Kelly Klein defeated Madison Rayne, Karen Q, and Sumie Sakai-, Super happy Sumie finally lost the belt. She's just not good. My buddy called her Dollar Tree's version of Asuka. She has a horrible look and is so clunky in the ring. Would have preferred Madison winning as I've been a fan of her's since her Ohio indie days, but Kelly winning is fine.

Zack Sabre Jr defeated Jonathan Gresham- I don't think either man took a bump the entire match and it was still awesome. Nice technical wrestling and Gresham didn't lose anything in defeat.

Matt Taven defeated Dalton Castle- I have an irrational hatred for Matt Taven. I think he's garbage in the ring and his look is awful. Solid match though and Taven took a scary fall onto the barricade.

Marty Scurll defeated Christopher Daniels- Very good match and both guys worked their tails off. Bully's post match attack on Daniels led into his I Quit match perfectly

Flip Gordon defeated Bully Ray- Fun brawl. Flip's woman that got involved was a distraction for the majority of the show. She was so bored looking during the show and she was ALWAYS on camera. Really made the product look weaker when someone in the front row looks preoccupied. Still, her involvement was a nice inclusion and I may not be the biggest Flip supporter, but nice win nonetheless. PLUS SANDMAN IN 2018!!

Jay Lethal defeated Cody- Probably my second favorite match of the night. Lethal and Rhodes work well together. The weird false finish where Hangman rang the bell was just weird and didn't really add anything to the finish.

The Briscoes defeated SoCal Uncensored and Young Bucks- Briscoes winning was obvious because of the All Elite Wrestling stuff, but great match.

Couldn’t make it through the anniversary show. Jay Lethal vs Matt Taven was pure garbage. Taven might be my least favorite worker of all time...except maybe Mongo McMichael.

Just couldn’t stomach anymore after that hour long trashfest.

With so many people other than Taven with title shots in hand, I'd have liked to see one or two of them make a run at Taven's fake belt and had some drama about who was going to get the unification match before we had Taven v Lethal. Given the style of promotion RoH is, I would have thought somebody would have wanted to try and prove they were the real uncrowned champ by taking both versions of the World title back to back. Imagine being the one to re-unify things where neither Taven or Lethal could because you beat them both. Sounds like some pretty strong bragging rights for a heel champ to me.

No word of a lie, I slept through the Jay Lethal vs Matt Taven match. I woke up during various points in the match and thought to myself, "Is this the same match? Screw this I am going back to sleep". I saw maybe forty minutes of the match during various stages of being awake. I agree with Jaysin, it was complete crap from what I saw of it. Then again I am also not a fan of Taven so maybe that colored my opinion on the match. I am not sure why that match had to go an hour long.

The rest of the show was just blah to me as well. I am not sure if it is because ROH lacks star power or what, I just could not get into the show as a whole.

Though I will say Rush vs. Bandido was pretty good and for a hardcore match I thought the main even was excellent.

The arena that the event took place in was not very big and did not look good on television. It reminded me of the old Memphis television studio or Center Stage in Georgia.

Watching the show reminded me of the last time I watched TNA (or whatever the hell its name is this week). Both companies used to have so much talent that shined now both companies seemed devoid of talent.

When say that I am not talking about in ring work. I am talking about wrestlers who I think can put eyeballs on the product. As much as I despise the Young Bucks, I cannot argue with the fact that for some reason they really connected with the fans.

Now both TNA and ROH have a few of those wrestlers still on their respective rosters (Jay Lethal and Johnny Impact come to mind) but I do not think either company has enough of those types of wrestlers.

So I re-watched The Anniversary Show, and here's some of my thoughts...

Shane Taylor vs. Jeff Cobb is hands down the sleeper match of the night. These two had good chemistry and Shane Taylor won me over, I've been on the fence about him, but he looks to have lost a little weight and is starting to take things a little more seriously, and I see big things for him down the road.

What the hell is going on with the Women of Honor Title?

Where are the Six-Man Titles? I think I've seen them defended once in the past 3 months and that was one TV.

I like both Jay Lethal and Matt Taven. But these two guys DO NOT mesh well. I felt the match was rushed, and it just never clicked. It had it's moments, but Lethal and Taven just don't have that spark together.

It's time for Jay Lethal to drop the belt, this is coming from someone who is a fan of his, but this run has just been meh. And is nowhere near as interesting as his run in 2016? I believe as TV Champ. If Marty is leaving ROH to go to AEW, then they need to find someone quick, because Lethal is just floundering right now. If Marty is staying, dear god give Marty the belt so my next thought makes sense...

Giving the Tag belts to Villain Enterprises only makes sense is Marty wins the big one. If not, then why would you mess with a great match like Briscoes vs. G.O.D. at Supercard?

By the way am I the only one who could give a shit less about PCO? I just do not care. But Brody King? That's a guy ROH needs to groom for the future, he's got a good look, and moves well for a big guy.

And lastly, I'll be attending my very first ROH show in April, I will be there for Masters of the Craft in Columbus. This should be fun, been a fan since the very early years and now getting a chance to see it in person has me geeked, and with it taking place one week after Supercard I'm just hoping they stack the hell out of the card.

The concept just never carries any weight this far north of the border. In Mexico, a Trios belt may be valuable. But in the US I wish we'd just give up on the idea unless it's a Lucha Underground or similarly minded promotion. The interest just isn't there.

I like both Jay Lethal and Matt Taven. How is it that in an atmosphere like RoH nobody stepped up and said. "Okay, Taven, you think you're world champ. Jay, you think you are. I'll solve this problem by beating both of you and winning both world titles back to back"? Would be hard to argue a guy who took both the fake and real world titles wasn't the real best in the world and worthy being RoH's standardbearer.

Giving the Tag belts to Villain Enterprises only makes sense is Marty wins the big one. I love the character PCO is playing and don't get Brody King at all. Between seeing him in MLW and as part of Villian Enterprises, he strikes me as a bit of Virgil case. Why this guy as opposed to that big guy over there? What makes King worth investing in? I'm willing to be sold on the guy but I can't find anything to him to get wildly excited about.
