This is a far cry from the company where Danielson, Joe, Punk, etc cut their teeth.

Oh amen. And while I know star power is important from a booking perspective, one of the things I've always really enjoyed is watching lesser knowns blossom into stars. It was always fun talking to a WWF/E fan about some new signee that was popping the E fan's eyes for the first time and being able to tell them they should have seen the guy at the Penta Hotel in UWF Abrams or some such syndie indie. Or boggling an ECW diehard by telling them about the days when Raven was a lovable loser face and Tommy Dreamer was the little brother afterthought to GQ Madison.

And conversely, when watching a larger promotion like WCW, it was always fun seeing who debuted at a show like Clash Of The Champions. Sure you tuned in primarily for the matches that were parts of storylines. But you also never knew who was going to show up. When some legend was going to pop up out of nowhere like Ricky Steamboat arriving in the dragon costume and sweeping it off to reveal himself. Or someone totally new like a Kevin Nash would blow your mind by demonstrating exactly he was signed right out of the gate.

For a company that is supposed to get the die-hard fan so much more than the average promotion, RoH seems to forget such joys these days. Sure the Lethal/Cole main events and the Brisco/War Machine style tag wars are great. And yes some of the New Japan visitors can be fun to watch at times. But so much more satisfying is seeing Adam grow into Hangman Page right before your eyes. Or seeing War Machine go from being a couple unknowns facing each other in a talent discovery tournament to becoming a major force in the tag team universe. Seeing a guy who was a young project when you first started getting the show become world champ as has happened with both Michael Elgin and Adam Cole since Sinclair Broadcasting bought RoH and put it in homes that would never have had it before. The last year or two it seems like RoH is desparate for the cheap thrill. There's no time to build someone from scratch or let them take advantage of the supposed springboard. They have to force feed you star power. NOW! NOW! NOW! Almost as though they fear they won't last to complete projects otherwise.

Both are better than WWE.

Okay guy. Gonna have to disagree with you here. But let me try to do it in a way that's less dismissive and hopefully more appealing than Brother Rivendale's laughing. I don't want to see the thread suffer because his caustic post is the most recent thing people see.

TNA and ROH both certainly have the potential to rock. If you can question either talent pool right now, it certainly you're trying hard to do so and likely doing it out of bias. Oh and to be fair, I haven't watched very much WWE in a while. So I don't have a direct comparsion to make to them.

But TNA wore me out and chased me away (potentially for good the way things are looking) with ping-ponging people around the alignment landscape. How am I supposed to invest in the story world when I'm supposed to be screaming my lungs cheering for a guy one week and wanting him dead the next? I used to bust Samoa Joe's chops for not being able to maintain a personality in TNA. Last I saw of the company back in winter, Joe was just trend setter that everybody's trying to catch up to now. I'd love to watch TNA and really enjoy them. But every time I sit down and try to they insist on not allowing the enjoyment to last.

And it's no secret how annoyed I am with RoH right now. Their programming should be able to creatively stomp a mudhole in a schitzo company like TNA or what WWE can be at times and walk it dry. When they are on their game, they are the old school dream invoking many happy memories of the syndication era. But the last couple years they have been so obsessed with star power and giving us the New Japan guys all the time, they have quit looking like the old school dream they once were.

The current product looks horribly hypocritical because they are so obsessed with star power and providing international "dream" matchups many of us can't relate to because they are no longer interested in guys fighting for the very principle of honor that is in their name. Or building up next decade's best in the world the way have over the years with the Roderick Strongs, AJ Styles and Adam Coles of past and present. At least, that's how it appears to us fans who don't know the Japanese guys very well. But as things stand I don't know you could be more wrong. And the really sad thing in that is you would be right in TNA and/or RoH could just live up to their considerable potential these days.

Hate to double post, but apparently I took just long enough a break from RoH in my New Japan frustration to have a couple questions pop up.

Could someone fill me in on the whys and wherefores of this Decade of Excellence tournament. I get the concept and I love it. But I am kind of wondering why now and how it came about since I missed its formation.

And could someone please give me the scouting report on this O'Brian guy in Matt Taven's revival of The Kingdom? I've seen and enjoyed Marseglia's work on prior episodes of RoH TV. So I am glad to see him get more to do. But the third guy in the group is pretty much a stranger to me. He seems to fit well in the stable based on the little I saw in this week's episode. But it bugs me that's all I have to go on.

Oh and personal taste here. Could someone please tell Taven he and Marseglia look too much alike with the look he has going right now? Might be nice if he had some garish old gold hair or a big crown tattoo on his chest. Something to really set him apart as the leader when everyone's buzzing about.

I think it's just kinda a veteran's showcase sort of thing, and most of them are near the top of the card as well?

You know, it's funny. I thought once it became TV official that I'd be in here gloating about Adam Cole being RoH champion once again and Kyle O'Reilly finally being out of the company. But instead something else jumped out at me during the clips of the Wrestle Kingdom title match. How natural Kyle feels when he's in the New Japan environment. Reminds me of Frankie Kazarian. Absolutely hated the guy in TNA. Seemed like I was supposed to love Frankie because everyone else did and I couldn't figure out what they saw in him. Soon as he left TNA and showed up in RoH, it was like Frankie was a totally different guy. One could quickly see he was a lot looser and more in his element in RoH than he ever was in TNA. As a result, that freer energy rallied me to his side. As much as O'Reilly's annoyed me in RoH over the years, I get the feeling it would be the same with him. If I could watch New Japan with any kind of regularly, I'm inclined to think I'd come to appreciate Kyle over there the way I have Kazarian post-TNA.

Good stuff in the rest of the eppy too. First time seeing Scurll and it's no mystery why they snatched the guy up or why he's TV champ. He has champion written all over him. Strong ring skills and personality to burn. Plus in just one appearance, he's managed to do something I didn't know was possible. He's got me itching to see Rocky Romero. The figure Scurll cuts during entrances seems very Roppongi Vice and yet his attitude is more Kevin Sullivan and the Dark Army. Would love to see Scurll and Romero come face to face and see how Rocky takes that. Especially if he takes it badly and that results in a match.

Good seeing Jonathan Gresham in that match as well. This is the type of thing I want to see on RoH TV. Gresham is the epitome of the talent who's been getting unjustly shoved aside for all the day trippers the last couple years. And he showed up in true Gresham fashion. The guy is incredibly fluid with the chain wrestling and such a joy to watch in the ring. But he can do the personality stuff as well like how he was throwing Scurll's taunts back in his face. I've often wished they'd pair Gresham up with a Cedric Alexander or a Jay Lethal and let them loose as a tag team. Guy really deserves better than being around once every six months.

Solid tourney match. Felt kind of obvious the result would need to be what it was but Daniels and Sabin sure made it fun getting there. Decade of Excellence? You got that right with the two Chrises involved.

And speaking of Brits I was seeing for the first time, how about Will Ospreay and that main event? Love seeing the triple threat and one from each of the major foreign wrestling cultures. Makes a very entertaining contrasts of styles and mindsets. But for me Ospreay sure was the standout. Dude's one of the fastest guys I've ever seen. And I don't know what's quicker. His muscles or his mind for reversals. When I'm watching OVW, they talk about Tyler Matrix and his "untrainable, untappable, uncanny will to survive". Matrix has nothing on Will Ospreay. Just when you think somebody's got him dead to rights and he's out the back door before you can mentally finish the sentence. And my word, the personality. I know he's been the face in the rivalry with Scurll but you could make him heel so easily. Dude felt very plastic and insincere with his actions when he was trying to "ingratiate" himself to his opponents and the crowd. Let him play to that and you could have a British Roderick Strong and what Strong was to RoH for so long.

Can't wait to see more both Scurll and Ospreay and if this episode is what I can expect of Ring Of Honor 2017, then bring it on, bay-bay

Haven't watched the episode, but yes, New Japan was a better fit for Kyle than ROH ever was. As much as everybody fell in love with the Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay match during last year's Best of the Super Juniors tournament, I thought Kyle vs. KUSHIDA was the best match of the tournament. The guy fit in well there and was fairly over with the Japanese fans. It's a shame he's apparently gone, because the owner was said to be very high on him and there were plans for a decent push as a heavyweight this year. I can only see him getting lost in the shuffle down in NXT with all the talent hoarding WWE is doing right now, especially with how terrible he is at talking.

The Kingdom vs. The Briscoes/Bully Ray could have been great.

I'll third that, I may have to keep watching more ROH(I should considering I have a lot of their roster in my created company in TEW haha) they COULD be the WWE alternative

I am glad Daniels won the title as well, at the risk of sounding like a pretentious mark, he did deserve it. He and Adam Cole tore down the house(and so did the other matches too!)

Adam Cole Baby!
