I think it's just that the NFL has been much less predictable this year than it has been for a while. I'm in a pick'em league where you get bonus points for getting the winning margin right (+/- 5 points) and I'm usually top 5, but this year I'm second from bottom in a 20 player league. <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I think the league is more equal this season. I mean obviously you have the stand-out teams but the middle of the pack teams seem to not be very consistent and that might be the main problem for both you and I.

I did not bother watching it. I did not want to see the Patriots win another SB.

They are my local team and all of the local media have been hyping them for the past two weeks. It is not that I am anti-Patriots as much as I am anti-Patriots fans. They are the biggest bandwagon jumpers in sports.

When the team sucked nobody cared about them, hell some were saying they did not care if they left New England. The minute they started to win on a regular basis these "lifelong fans" started coming out of the woodwork. It just so phony to me.

I never got how these same people will support the Red Sox no matter what but will only support the Patriots because they win.

Growing up in New England, I could never get my head around people held the different teams to different standards. The Sox and Celtics got the love regardless. The Bruins were allowed to stagnate because they were playoff regulars. While the Pats were largely ignored even though the Sox had taught the fans of the region how to ride or die with a lesser team. It made my head hurt trying to understand the mental and emotional contortions of Boston-based sports fans. That's part of what lead me to cross state lines and take up with the Whalers in the NHL. I needed to get out of the swirl of Boston sports think. I still support the Celtics but that's mostly because they are community outreach partners with my alma mater in SNHU. While I'm meh on the Sox and Pats and still have no love lost for the Bruins. I can't look at a Bruins jersey or hat and fail to see that high and mighty, hufty-tufty arrogance from the late 80's and early 90's.</p>

As a Giants fan I knew going into the season they were not going to be great. But I also was not expecting them to be that bad. Oh well they will probably suck for the next five to ten years, win a Super Bowl and then the cycle will start all over again. Such is the way of the Giants.<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Didn't realize this until I heard it today, and had to double check. Eli is a .500 QB for his career. Unbelievable.

Wish I could say I'm surprised. But it's not like you can hang that all on him as much as many would like too. The Giants have struggled to remain a fully constructed team over the course of Eli's tenure. When they've had the good years, they were terrific. But all too often during Eli's career, there's been that gaping hole. If it wasn't the run game it was the receiving corps. Get the receiving corps firmed up, the O line was allowed to go to seed. Eli's done all he could. Can only imagine what he might have done with a coaching staff and front office as committed as the ones in New England or Pittsburgh. I know the Giants are often held up as a similarly model franchise but sometimes I wonder if they should be given the inconsistent results they compared to teams like the Steelers or the Kraft-era Patriots

They always seem to have a terrible OL. He seems to get battered around so much that I am honestly surprised he is still able to play.

Well only the Packers and the Bears have more championships than the Giants, so I can see why they are always held in high regard. Also, the do play in the largest media market in America so that helps keep them relevant even when they actually are not relevant (Same goes for the Jets but the Jets have been bad for so long they just do not have the same prestige).

Oh, for sure. I'm not pinning the blame on him. Though he's the QB, so he gets it anyway, right?

In all seriousness, it was just something that despite all of those bad years recently, it's still 2 time SB MVP Eli Manning. He can't be a .500 QB. Yet there he is.

As to your point of the franchises, Colin Cowherd had something that made sense on that. Sometimes the brand is so powerful that people can't accept it's no longer great. The example he gave (and the numbers support it): People believe that NO's offense is dynamic - when they've been average at best since Thanksgiving last year.
