I'm gonna say not much. We're used to our guys never making it to the top I think. Hatton was no less popular after getting spanked by Mayweather, and there was a huge movement for him to fight in the UK again after Pacquiao knocked his block off.

Anderson is legit one of, or the actual, best in the world right now (but that's a debate for another day)...I think UK fans understand that and there would be no shame in Bisping losing to him. I'd actually give Mike a good three rounds with Silva based on his footwork alone. Actually surprised to see people ragging on his striking...technically speaking, he's one of the best strikers in the division, behind only Anderson in my book. It's just that my granny hits harder and has a better chin :-p Seriously though, most fighters speak to regard Bisping as one of the better strikers out there, on a technical level.

But I digress. I don't think losing to Silva would kill Bisping's drawing ability (which I think has peaked already - I don't see the UFC running a stadium in the UK)...infact, hanging with the champ while getting smacked around for three rounds might actually go some way to getting rid of the anti-Bisping feeling that is building up in the UK and making him a bigger attraction.

I agree with all this but I think something that needs to be factored is in who the 2nd most popular British fighter currently is and how he builds himself up as well.

I also disagree that Bisping's drawing power has peaked. I think few understand how good Bisping's footwork is yet and a match against Silva win or lose would just shoot that to legendary hype levels.

This is all assuming Bisping does not get destroyed by Anderson. I think Bisping's stock would have dropped heavily if Hendo had been a little bit better in their striking exchanges and didn't just time that counter on an obviously nervous Bisping.

This has always been The Count's best ability. He knows how to best take advantage of a good match-up.

Even now I think saying The Count has no power is a tad bit wrong. Watch his fights with Dennis Kang and Charles McCarthy. Bisping has power but he doesn't gamble and is overly cautious against fighters with chins and heavy power.

I also don't think anyone is discrediting Bisping's technical striking but since I was one of those who said his best game is the ground, let me clarify:

Bisping does not have poor striking but his striking technique is heavily based on his footwork like most British strikers. The weakness here is that his footwork has never been a perfect compliment to MMA. That's why he has to constantly backpedal all the time. It's a slightly better boxer footwork than most MMA fighters are used to but it's nothing quite like Anderson's nor does Bisping have a top ranked sprawl.

In contrast Bisping's strike to top game transition is in my opinion what makes him one of the best MMA fighters of the world. He's no BJJ genius nor does he rely on takedowns but if he can punish an opponent with strikes and soften them enough to be pressured, his top game is one of the quickest in the division. He can quickly lock in submissions or bore down smart GnP before most fighters can react. I literally don't recall Bisping having a bad moment on top when he is able to GnP. He can get choked out or out-wrestled but when he is the one dealing the offense he is as good as the best GnPers in the division at delivering heavy damage in a rapid moment on top.

Did you see the Jacob Volkmann/Danny Castillo fight? Jacob Volkmann was clearly winning the ground game, but he did terrible GnP. Some people are just too hard to submit. Volkmann tried to do some GnP, but it didn't look like it did more than annoy Castillo, who took the time he was getting GnP'ed poorly to attempt to protect himself from submissions.

Was the question directed at me? I'm confused as to what that fight has to do with Bisping or is "you" here meant to mean just anyone?

Sorry, it was to you. I like watching prelims. It tells me what matters and what doesn't. I repeat, not necessarily who matters and doesn't matter, but rather, what matters and what doesn't matter.

Ok but I'm lost with the connection to Bisping. There are lots of fights like that. Some even pure ground battles where you have to really know BJJ to understand not only who is giving up the submission but who is actually throwing up submissions. Take the Guida-Pettis fight where even hardcore watchers seem to be lost on how many actual sub attempts were there and whether Guida was really that much on the defensive or not.

I think what's really confusing with your question is that Bisping is often the opposite of this. The few times he's gone to the ground, you can't really tell he is dominating the ground game but his GnP is efficient and his submissions can be slick. He makes it seem like him being on top isn't that big of a deal but almost all his finishes have come from straight striking to TKOs. He's one of the few fighters where fight finder tells his stories more than his actual fights.

I read they were looking at Mir/Lesnar 3, which seems more likely, as I sincerely doubt they put their biggest draw against a champ from another fed who could become a big star for the UFC in what would be pretty much a pure striker vs. pure wrestler match.

Honestly I can see Reem getting a title shot right away depending on what happens between Schaub and Big Nog.

If Schaub finishes Big Nog, and makes it out of the arena in one piece, he has a good case for getting a shot at Cain. If Mir/Lesnar III happens, and it's Mir's next fight, and Mir wins then he would probably be in consideration for a title shot against Cain but there is no telling when that fight could even take place and anything could have happened by then. After that, I think we'd probably be looking at Strikeforce fighters for potential title contenders. The GP will probably be completed just in time for the inevitable merger of Strikeforce into the UFC, so whoever wins that might be in line for a title shot. If Big Foot wins the GP, then I think he would deserve the title shot because he not only won it but beat Fedor along the way. If Barnett wins it,though, it would depend on him and Dana making nice with each other.

Complete speculation at this point. They don't even know when Lesnar can come back yet.

We interviewed Alistair at the weekend as it happens, he was over in the UK doing a few seminars. We were told by his people that their offer to the UFC is dependent on either a title shot, or a fight with Brock Lesnar. Also, he wants to fight by the end of the year, or fight for K-1 in December...which kinda makes Lesnar the go to guy.

What his health situation is, I don't know...but damn, a Lesnar vs Overeem bout would be absolute mayhem one way or the other.

If this said mayhem leads to a ballerina twirl from Lesnar (ala UFC 121), I'm sold. :p

Now then you greedy lot...as promised, a chance to win some free tix to BAMMA 7.

http://www.mmabay.co.uk/2011/08/18/win-bamma-7-tickets-with-lonsdale-and-mmabay/

All you have to do is tell us why you think you deserve a pair of BAMMA 7 tickets. Extra points for blatantly untrue yet hilariously fantastical entries.

Also terms and conditions state that you have to buy me a pint if you win. Just kidding. But maybe not :-D

More on the FOX deal:

4 Live Events per year on FOX, the first taking place on 11/12 from Anaheim, CA

6 Live Events per year on FX

The Ultimate Fighter reality show during its two seasons will air on Fridays. Lesnar vs. Mir will not be at fox's first event since he is probably fighting at UFC 140 since he's healthy. As for the fox thing, it seems like spike is gone and ultimate fight nights and prelims live will be featured on fox. The TUF thing might be a bad thing, but who knows.

They have no current timeframe on Brock's return. He hasn't even started light training let alone full-on training. Any date on Brock's return right now is pure speculation and nothing more.

your just upset the canada gets his return. :p

Anyways reading in on the fox deal I kinda don't like it as I don't get FSN (i think that's what fox sports is) or fuel TV, just hopefully ufc unleashed airs in Canada & the deal with roger sportsnet stays in tack (w/e the spelling is).

Edit: does the BAMMA tickets contest include airfare and hotel fee? :)
