Okay, here’s what happened.

Basically, my current laptop has been acting odd for a few weeks, so in anticipation of it croaking, I had begun backing up files. But somehow, in my haste, I saved an old version of my word document over the current one. It wiped out a lot of writing I had already done on the next six or so shows and an absolute ton of booking trees and storylines that I had sketched out for months in advance.

Since it happened, I tried re-writing the show that I was just about done with and found myself more angry than anything; on one hand, I still have the game-save so the game itself is fine, but having all of my future plans wiped out flat just took all of the momentum and fun out of it. I hadn’t totally given up hope though until this morning when I wrote that third GB segment where Phil quits. Originally, in the lost version he just had a fit and then we moved forward with the Champion situation. But when I was rewriting it, it sort of came out the other way, with the guy provoking Phil and Phil freaking and walking out. And I was oddly comfortable with it. I waited a little while to make sure I wouldn’t have any second thoughts and then decided to post it.

I’m still good with it, even though I have a lot of loose ends that I would’ve liked to resolve, storywise. For the people who were as invested in those stories as I was, I apologize.

That said, I still find diary writing to be a lot of fun and will undoubtedly continue with another project in the future. Probably sooner rather than later, but we'll see.

Best,

NN

An ending that truly befit the diary.

I'll echo the other sentiments, it's sad to see this go NN, but I totally understand the frustration of losing all that work and being unable to find the appettite to replicate it. So much awesomeness and great characterisations throughout though. It's well worth re-reading PWC's rise a second time at least.

I'll throw my name into the "please upload your game save" ring as well. :p

 • 1 year later...

“I’m glad you called me back. I was beginning to think that this whole situation was irreparable.”

“Can’t say I really want to be here, invalid, but you never sending me my check for ‘services rendered’ kind of forced my hand. One thing my father taught me was never leave money on the table. And he was a regular churchgoer…..”

“…..”

“I said I could make PWC/USPW a national brand on par with SWF and TCW in under two years, didn't I? And I only gave you how many months of that?”

“Seven.”

“Seven months. Seven glorious in-game months which let your nerd following get a peek inside the brain of THE booking genius. I mean, for all the good stuff that came out of that seven months of programming, I think we should go ahead and call it good.”

“I was under the assumption that you came back to our studios today to get started again?”

“I was hoping that you might see fit to pay me half of what you owe me and let me buy you dinner before we go our separate ways.”

“When have you ever…..ever…..paid for a meal?”

“Don’t be like that.”

“……”

“Alright, how about you pay me half of what you owe me and then you buy me dinner?”

“It’s good to have you back, Phil.”

You know what, before this gets rolling again, I'm just going to throw something out there. I was/am a big fan of this dynasty, but when NoNeck did PWI I wasn't so much into it. For what it's worth, I'll just point out why that was, so that you're aware of the difference rather than wondering "Hey, why did that guy like that diary but not the other?" and understand what the draw/appeal is, at least for me.

For me, first and foremost, I much preferred the layout and format of this diary. With PWC it felt, at least to me, that each episode was quite important and that NoNeck was thinking about everyone on the roster and giving them a character and a direction.

With PWI, it felt more like he/you were racing from month to month. Maybe that's because there were less visuals incorporated, which for me are a big deal [as anyone who might have peeked at BUSHIDO: Ghetto Samurai might guess].

Also the NWA aspect and the NWA vs ECW thing didn't really float my boat. PWC's web of characters was more appealing to me than faction warfare, to be frank.

Finally, the whole backdrop of the Tuesday Night Wars was very interesting where you have Vibert obsessively trying to catch up to SWF and TCW, which once again reinforced that every episode and PPV mattered, because if any one of them bombed Vibert would be p*ssed because his progress is slowed.

So yeah, those are the reasons I love this diary but didn't really care for the PWI one, just to give you some perspective .

((OOC: Thanks for all of the love on the return. I just can't stay away from the GDS dynasty forum.))

“You freaked out on me there……”

“Freaked out is a bit of a stretch. I was upset and I think I let you understand my frustration with things.”

“Yeah, you could say that.”

“Well, in all fairness, you did kind of railroad me, using the narrative option to sideswipe what I was doing with Nicky Champion.”

“The drug bust?”

“…..”

“I stand by it.”

“…….”

“……..”

“I didn’t think you had much of a spine hiding inside that JC Penney suit jacket and mail order shirt ….because underneath your supposed internet cred and your fifteen -dollar haircut…. you are just a fan….one with a website, a camera, and a shitty little distribution deal….but a fan nonetheless….”

“…..”

“But there’s a little sproutlet of a backbone growing back there, isn’t there? Something making you stand up a little bit more straight? Making you think maybe your wife doesn’t think you’re so much of a disappointment?”

“I….”

“Don’t talk.”

“…..”

“Listen, okay. Just for a minute.”

“…….”

“I’m going to beat your game, no matter what you pull. I mastered it. I know all the corners that can be cut: Bobby Fischer beat the machine.”

“….”

“You can take Nicky Champion from me……even though we both know what a low blow that is given the many conversations we had about how I was building him…….”

“…….”

“But I’m going to beat you…..I’m going to win.”

“…..”

“…..”

“…….”

“What?”

“Things have changed…..somewhat.”

“What are you talking about, man? Changed? Changed how?”

“…..”

“……”

“We're doing things a little bit differently here at Guest Booker these days. There’s a new game.”

“……”

“TEW ’13 came out a few months ago.”

This is one of the best posts/responses I've ever gotten. Thanks Celt.

“So, we’ve given you a little bit of time to fool around with the new game, Phil. What do you think?”

“What am I supposed to say? Are you Guest Booker folks in bed with the developers of the game?”

“….”

“Because if you are and I say the wrong thing, I don’t want to find myself staring down the barrel of another narrative situation where you give Baine and Rick Law chronically itchy assholes and ruin months of my booking plans.”

“Did this story of Nicky Champion’s really ruin things for you? It made a small dent in his popularity and momentum….”

“It did more than that, friend. It almost tarnished the whole white knight babyface image that we had taken seven months to build.”

“But…”

“But nothing. I know you can’t measure it in the game’s mechanics, but I’m writing stories here. And this situation changes Nicky’s. And a couple of others, too.”

“Well, I’m sure our fans are getting excited to get going, I know I am. Are you ready, Phil?”

“Of course, but a couple of questions: Where are we starting?”

“Where? Like time wise? Right where we left off is perfect; there is so much going on. The next show to book will be the third week of February's. Two TV shows to complete the build-up to the next pay-per-view.”

“Okay.”

“…..”

“……”

“What?”

“I’m going to need a refresher on all of the other storylines, though. I didn’t bring my notebook.”

Great to see this back up and running NN! I actually enjoyed PWI (although I may be biased), but I can see where Celt is coming from. I think partly its because Phil seems to fit you better as a character to build the project around than Shane Allman did, although I'd still say that your PWI shows were superb.
