What's Going on in YOUR Game?

Recommended Posts

I don't "naturally" develop my guys popularity-wise. So I'm able to maintain a lot of main event popularity guys often. I found I had to do that since I only have 2 weight classes. I like to have at least 8 main eventers so I always check my roster analysis before I grow in size and have had to stop growing multiple times for a few months. I grew to HLN and have been bouncing back and forth but am at 75% ~ now and blocked from growing.

Typically I'll have my main and co-main on a card then an 8-man tourney with undercard pop guys. The guy who emerges victorious typically gets a big bump in pop depending on the level of guys he was fighting. Then he slugs it out in the co-main and jumps up to main event popularity rather quickly. Usually in 7-8ish PICKED fights I can get them up to main event (including tourneys).

On the TV shows I do the same but with a 4-man tourney between cans i.e. Callum Henson, Delroy Rhodes etc. so that my prospects and the guys I'm trying to get over are fighting guys with either HLR or LLN pop.

Guys like Raphael Tavares, Filip Hristov, Brock Youdale, Bosco Curbeam, Heicko Shimizu, Kei Maki etc. are examples in my game where they can't seem to break into the top-tier. As I jump up in popularity they seem to rise up enough from the increased exposure that they tag-along at co-main status.

I haven't really figured out the women yet since they all seem to be so averagely skilled. Nina Belle is my headliner at HLN but there's probably 10 others stuck at LLN b/c they'll win a few and lose a few. So the top booking I can get out of my women is co-main or on my medium TV show. Sandy Olivier is my champion and has dominated everyone but is MLN and I don't want to keep feeding Belle to her since she is my highest pop. The tourney trick doesn't seem to be working with the women as quickly for some reason.

I do a rotation of 2 events one month (Wk1 TV & Wk3 Regular) and then on Wk3 of the following month I do just a regular event. To me it gives enough fights for guys to grow with the company but also gives them time off enough to recuperate. One thing to note as well, I don't "protect" anybody. I don't have any undefeated guys on my roster except a few regens who haven't faced anyone tough yet. I pit the best guys against the best guys as often as it makes sense.

HILITE debuted in 2001 and went under in 2003 so I bought them out for a development territory (I had 112 WW's :S) so I made their weight classes equal to mine and sent down like 35 guys.

UCFF just went under a little while a go in early 2004.

I <3 KDM FC so I edited in some more money for them off the start. They are still alive atm.

<p>Thanks for going into such detail. Your post in the thread about tips for new players was quite interesting as well. I wish I'd come here more when I first played the game so that I could share the experience of players like you; it would have made it a much more enjoyable experience.</p><p> </p><p>

I haven't really tried tournaments much; that sounds like a good way to test out new fighters and boost their popularity. I might give that a go, especially as I'm bringing in lots of regens.</p><p> </p><p>

Unfortunately, I missed the news about two companies going under because I multi-advanced, so I didn't manage to take over anyone. It's a shame; it looks like a really interesting mechanic, but I've never actually managed to try it. From a quick glance through the editor, the other promotions have ridiculous amounts of money, so there won't be any bankruptcies in the near future. </p><p> </p><p>

At least I seem to have avoided your issues with the women; while my division is also headlined by Nina Belle, I have seven others at MLN (alas, Sandy Oliver retired).</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

I'm right at the start of 2007 with XCC, locked at mid-national level but considering removing the limit to push into high. I have nearly $90 million and 100 fighters on the roster, with monthly TV (4 fights) and PPV (6 fights). </p><p> </p><p>

After two years of averaging just below decent commercial ratings (I've set up an Excel file to keep track, converting them into a scale of 1-10) I jumped up to an average of good in 2006 (7.0, up from 5.8), so it should be time to go for high national.</p><p> </p><p>

Alpha and GAMMA are stealing a few fighters, since I'm rather tight with contracts. In 2005 I lost both my male champions. Still, there's a constant stream of new options, so things are looking pretty good - apart from having two fighters suspended for drugs...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The main players at the start of 2007: (fight records reflect results in XCC from 1998)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Featherweight</strong></p><p>

My ostensible star division, though the women have really come into their own recently. They haven't been poached nearly as much as the lightweights, nor have they suffered as much as the women from retirements, so most of the division is well-established.</p><p> </p><p>

Jonathan Shearer (0-6)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Lightweight</strong></p><p>

Always the weaker division, though I'm trying to boost it with a stack of rookie signings. It has been hurt by the poaching of former champions Darren Southall, Ross Smith and Glen Siemaszko.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<p>Ramona Stivic has 2 victories in my game</p><p> </p><p>

Over Rain Richards and Rennaya Rives, both by split decision <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Rives didn't develop well in this game unfortunately.</p><p> </p><p>

I hired Grant Kyle as a can right off the bat in this game and despite having a record of 4-15 he has developed a decent skill set for a gatekeeper. He has played spoiler multiple times as well to my dismay >.></p><p> </p><p>

Knocked out Arteta which I though was strange since Arteta has next-to world class striking, he submitted high subs guy Felix Matherson Jr. and submitted Kei Maki. Kinda reminds me of Gu Ueda >.></p>

Half a year into the game and 70 people have already quit their training camp (using CVE v1.4). That's... quite a change. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>Started a new MW14 game as Mark Pavelich with MFC</p><p> </p><p>

So far so good, making a tidy 15-20k profit per month (most months) and putting on some decent shows. Jumped to HLR twice but don't have the roster built up enough to stay up there. SCORE has stolen/keeps stealing most of my decent fighters, along with the UFC! To make it more challenging I've only been signing my champions to exclusive deals, so I at least have them for a little while.</p><p> </p><p>

David Heath KO'd Wilson Gouveia to take my LHW title. Then he defended it against Soukodjou and Eliot Marshall and retired! He clears out the division and screws off into the sunset haha.</p><p> </p><p>

Travis Galbraith took the MW title from Elvis Mutapcic and I've been trying to build Bongfeldt up as the #1 contender in hopes that he'll take it, but he's had a rough go. That sucks since he'll probably retire shortly and I'm trying to build up Bongfeldt (even though he's old too). Mokdad will fight Galbraith in his first defense since Mokdad beat Bongfeldt (but got KO'd by Mutapcic earlier >.>).</p><p> </p><p>

I brought Scott Junk back from unemployment and he's played spoiler numero uno so far. Knocking lots of people out, even though the rest of his game is super shoddy. A regen now holds the HW crown after KOing Junk and will be defending against Chris Tuchscherer. Darrill Schoonover has been good and I've built him up to #2 contender twice and both Cummo (the regen champion) and Tuchscherer stomped him >.> </p><p> </p><p>

Tyrone Glover is my LW champion and has been stomping the guts out of dudes. My deepest division, I crowned the champ via a tournament which obviously glover won. He's 11-0 and doesn't really have any contenders left. I'm going to have to bring in some outside talent, though I'll probably lose him once his contract is up. Kurt Southern has been sucking and in general I think the Canadian fighters in this mod are underskilled in some areas (I still like it though and can appreciate the work that went into this mod). </p><p> </p><p>

I've been trying to establish Antonio Carvalho in my FW division as the man to beat but, despite having a good skill set is sucking balls. Thierry Quenneville is my champion and should be on top for a while until I can freshen up the division. Carvalho and Quenneville are old (35, 34 respectively) so shit is going to go South soon in this division. I brought in Tito Jones as a prospect but he's let me down so far. Mark Streigl, Bubba Jenkins, and John Teixiera are all poised to make runs - along with Tito. But they are all skilled enough that the UFC will poach them before to long guaranteed.</p><p> </p><p>

My Bantamweight division is really weak with only like 10 guys. I brought in Antonio Banuelos since he's an exciting high-level striker but he's been a bit disappointing so far. Brad McDonald is my champion with 1 defense. Undefeated in MFC so far he has wins over Alex Soto, Ryan Benoit, Diego Wilson, and a KO over Banuelos >.> Need to bring in more challenging talent for him but BW free agents are sparse and hard to come by.</p><p> </p><p>

In general so far I've had a tough time establishing guys to use a regular main eventers. For the most part everyone is average to above-average skill-wise so pretty much anyone can win which makes stringing streaks together is a bitch... Pavelich will carry on!</p>

  • 3 weeks later...
Got in the mood so I decided to dig up the Dawn of MMA mod playing as the UFC.Teila Tuli made it to the finals where he lost to Royce Gracie by of course submission, but he did last 9:35 and earned himself another shot.So at UFC 2 he makes it to the finals again and again lost to Gracie this time only lasting 6:07,but I had to give him another shot. This time at UFC 4 he lost to Dan Severn in the second round of the tournament the fight lasted 23:13.April 1995 in real life was the Super Fight between Ken Shamrock and Gracie, but in the game Gracie had already beat Shamrock twice so I didn't really see it as that compelling of a fight. So I decided to go with Royce Gracie Vs Teila Tuli ya Tuli lost twice to Gracie, but what could the 430 pound man do if he didn't have to fight twice before hand.Well early in the fight Tuli managed to drop Gracie and almost finish him then the fight ended back on the feet where Tuli managed to pin Gracie up against the cage and use his dirty boxing for the next 25 minutes.Making the fight end in a Time Limit Draw.It was an awful fight, but you have give it to Tuli he has done WAY WAY more then what I was expecting him too. The next card up is Clash of The Titans where UFC crowned their first champion Tuli will probably fight rather Severn in a Rematch or get Ken Shamrock. You just have to love the randomness of these games makes it so much fun.

<p>I have just finished 2004, with my created company at mid-National level.</p><p> </p><p>

We are doing fine financially and own WEFF and KDM. Our main issue is competitive credibility. I'm not used to this issue as I usually play XCC, which has dominance over Featherweights and Women. </p><p> </p><p>

My 18-month-old Women's Division is keeping us afloat in terms of credibility, but the Welterweights and Middleweights are weak, not helped by being constantly poached by GAMMA and Alpha.</p><p> </p><p>

The status as of the start of 2005 (stats relate to my company's fights only)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Women</strong></p><p>

Boosting our credibility and putting on decent matches, but still trying to work out rankings within the division given it is newly-created.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<p>I've been playing the dawn of mma - I started out with tournaments and one weight class with a PPV every 2 months. Now I'm averaging a PPV a month with a decently sized roster in November of 1997.</p><p> </p><p>

I've kept my main title and just used it as an openweight championship, basically the title everyone guns for. I put the #1 vs #2 pound for pound against each other for the title every 2 months then the rest of the titles are defended besides the ones that the openweight match might have. For example my next PPV is going to have:</p><p> </p><p>

#1 Rickson Gracie (Middleweight Champion) vs #2 Randy Couture (UFC Openweight Champion)</p><p> </p><p>

#14 Steven Graham (Super Heavyweight Champ) vs #25 Scott Ferrozzo</p><p> </p><p>

#5 Mark Schultz (Light Heavyweight Champ) vs #6 Tito Ortiz</p><p> </p><p>

#3 Josh Barnett vs #8 Ken Shamrock (Heavyweight Champion)</p><p> </p><p>

#15 Akihiro Gono (Welterweight) vs Kiuma Kunioku</p><p> </p><p>

So, meanwhile the top Middleweight match doesn't have a title on the line since at the moment Rickson Gracie has it. Couture beat Shamrock for the Openweight title even though they were both in the Heavyweight division... I'm contemplating whether or not the Heavyweight title should have been on the line in that fight as well.</p><p> </p><p>

So I played all the way into December of 1997 using DOMMA (been a day) and my computer decides to freeze during autosave and screw my save :(. Ken Shamrock was champ (12-0) and he defeated Bas Rutten by TKO in 5 minutes and Royce Gracie by decision.

Go to your Program Files/GDS/WMMA3/Databases/DOMMA/SaveGames/(Your Save)/Backup and copy everything from there to your save folder overwriting everything. This takes your save back a day but you can continue playing ;)

Li-Kong Ho (49-1) is 42 years old, but still sits atop the P4P rankings. He is the current holder of SIGMA's FW title and has defended it 17 times against the best Featherweights in the world. Name someone, and Ho has probably beaten him at some point in his career.</p><p> </p><p>

<p>In Gladiator Challenge (US) in 2004, Jose Gonzales (17-0) takes home his biggest win and the GC Lightweight title with a dominant win over the Irish Seth O'Breen (24-2) in front of the Boston crowd. </p><p> </p><p>

It's amazing how good some of the more mediocre-looking talents can become with the right breaks. Gonzales made his way to the title on the back of a 16-fight win streak, 11 of them on the Mexican local scene, and with GC victories over Goncalves Cassaro, Gonzalo Ramos and Chad Zoff. He was not favored at all against O'Breen, but a brilliant game plan involving leg kicks and body kicks allowed him to dominate the Irishman and the challenger even showed able grappling by stuffing all of O'Breen's four takedown attempts and taking the former champ's back with the hooks in. </p><p> </p><p>

Next up it's an all-Mexican affair as Mando Romero (12-0) pits his boxing skills against Gonzales' slick kickboxing for all the marbles. Romero is coming off four GC wins of his own, TKO's of Clifton Curry and Hugo Cruz, a decision over Goncalves Cassaro, and finally a triangle choke submission over former long time champion Luke Hilton.</p>

  • 2 weeks later...

I have just completed my tenth year in charge of my created promotion. We've just pushed into High National level after years locked at Mid National. My main issue is competitive credibility - there's so much competition for the Welterweight and Middleweight rankings that my fighters rarely get up there - and when they do, they're poached by Alpha or GAMMA.

My Women's division is keeping us reasonably steady, and I'm about to introduce a Featherweight division to get some more ranked fighters (I can poach a bunch from KDM, as their parent company).

Unfortunately, this will mean a lot of contracts to deal with - bring on WMMA4!

The status as of the start of 2008 (stats relate to my company's fights only)

Women

Now fairly well settled after a few years in operation, and massively boosting our credibility with 36% of ranking points.

Champion:

Pamela O'Neill (5-1, rank #4, 1x champion) - 0 defences

Challengers:

Nina Belle (9-3, rank #7, 1x champion)

Jenny DeNeuve (6-1, rank #6)

Joyce Turner (3-0, rank #5)

Colleen Stardust (7-3, rank #11, 1x champion)

Welterweight

The strongest it has been with five ranked fighters, though four of them are in or approaching their mid-30s. My main disappointments are that Atep of Indonesia (8-6) never really fired and Datuk Ong Ka King (19-5) was stolen by Alpha.

Champion:

Agustin Gonzalez (14-6, rank #10, 2x champion) - 1 defence

Challengers:

Easton Frye (9-2, rank #23, 2x champion)

Chew Chua (2-0, rank #17)

Joao Leopoldo (9-3, rank #20)

Ahmed Mohamed Farag (9-3, rank #24)

Lamont Banner (16-7, 2x champion)

Middleweight

Boosted by the unlikely rise of Tyrone Malik, who was essentially a can for years, as well as the unbeaten regen Cristobal Galvao.

Champion:

Joshua Hope (19-4, rank #6, 2x champion) - 1 defence

Challengers:

Guillermo Morales (17-8, rank #23, 3x champion)

Cristobal Galvao (5-0, rank #17)

Tyrone Malik (8-12, rank #24)

Tom Essy (12-5)

Leonardo da Costa (19-13, 3x champion)

<p>Malik was a can? Did he have bad stats or was he just a goomba due to a massive lack of confidence/experience?</p><p> </p><p>

It's interesting to see a guy make a sudden big rise out of obscurity, maybe I could like see his fight history and skills because you piqued my curiosity <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>Not much happening in my game, apart from the fact that pure submission guys are falling from their pedestal after the apparent removal of standing guillotines, much to my delight. Maybe I'm being a little premature, but after almost 100 fights simmed, of myself and several main events, there was only one standing guillotone and it was after opponent getting punch-drunk.</p><p> </p><p>

That said, my promotion doesn't seem to get the hint, with <strong>Hope Lehane</strong> holding on to the FW title before an upcoming 4th fight against Oliver. There simply isn't another contender, kind of a failure on my part. But I can't keep her in the 2nd slot for longer, though I could've dropped her to her natural weight I guess. A loss now and that's settled. If not there'll be an epic 5th-match immediately.</p><p> </p><p>

For the BW title O'Neill just won a nr. one contender's match against Biel and gets to have another shot at <strong>Sayoko Ebisawa</strong> after being submitted while in side control (kind of embarassing). Another sub-specialist, but at least they are touchable now. It does make sense both her and Lehane are title-holders as they are pretty much the only women with a heavy background in a discipline.</p>

Now his 65-75% boxing and wrestling skills are sufficient for him to get wins even against seemingly better opponents.</p>

I'm just in my first save and I took the easy route and went with GAMMA. James Foster is my HW champ. Anthony LeToussir is my LHW champ. Dexter Darling is my MW champ. WW champ Julio Regueiro is the #1 pound for pound fighter. He's beating Rufus Stephens, won the LW title from Sean Morrison and beat Buddy Garner. He's beaten another great WW but I can't remember off the top of my head. Just added FW and BW divisions after KDFM closed. In our first ever FW title fight Li Kong was upset by Manish Khan in the first round.

<p>The 'easy' route? The more divisions/fighters, the harder it gets. You'll have to pay heed to each of them to make sure it stays healthy, and organising/stalling the bookings becomes harder imo.</p><p> </p><p>

When it's just a pair of divisions, it's pretty easy setting up your cards, especially if it's only a handful each year.</p>

<p>I've been trying a new tournament format with my latest save. New for me, I mean. It's just a reverse of the Bellator format. Instead of winning a tournament to earn a one-off fight for the belt, you win a one-off fight to earn a spot in the championship tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

I started by signing 16 fighters to each division. The top 8 compete in a one night tournament for the belt, and the other 8 fight each other on the same card to qualify for the next tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

Winning the opening round of the tournament earns you a spot in the next one, and the four losers will have to win a qualifying match on that card in order to get back into the mix. If they lose <em>that</em> then they're put into the 'non-qualifying' pool, where a loss will probably get them released from the promotion entirely.</p><p> </p><p>

It's been pretty fun so far. I enjoy having a clear set of rules to remove my own bias from the equation as much as possible, and as usual, tournament winners come away with huge gains in popularity and reputation. The inaugural Light Heavyweight champ went from unranked to #7 overnight. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Mostly I just love the idea of putting my champs to the test like that.</p><p> </p><p>

Speaking of the LHW winner, he's a super one-dimensional boxer who upset his way through the tournament with three knockouts despite his pretty average punching power. The last two fights were both rated Fantastic, too. That said, the first grappler to take him down will probably hit the jackpot. 75% reputation and all of his grappling skills are in the 40s or lower.</p>
