Memoirs of a Booker: 5SSW: Return of the Oracle

What was surprising was Yuma and Raku doing worse than the two matches before them.

Completely and with the resounding. I was seeing a C at the lowest, yes? A C- would have been the surprise in box. But a D+?? The future is in the clouds indeed.

"Raku Makuda was visibly tiring toward the end." The match might been too long for Raku Makuda. It could have gotten a C-, I bet, if the match was a bit shorter. We'll never know. :)

I know, and this is like the third time this tour.

It makes me question my own lines and minds the same.

Perhaps Yuma was a mistake. :p

My question is what's she learning from Chiyeko Kita, that she doesn't know already. What's her technical stats compared to Devil Karube's?

The only place they meet on Technical is in Chain Wrestling: They are both at C. In all other technical areas it's DEVIL who is the stronger... To make the matter into a stranger, I see no change in DEVIL's technical stats in a year. But it makes the sense in the way that she is indeed perfect. I wish Chiyeko would grow instead. She is younger!

Maybe, it is yes on Raku/Yuma. I do try to press them with time to grow. A D+ still a little on the low and ouch.

Maybe Devil is getting a tiny bit better in technical wresting. It probably won't show for a long while. If you begin to see actual changes, darn, she's really awesome.

As for pressing their stamina, I recall someone saying, you need to push to the limit, but not over it. If you push them over or under the limit, their stamina won't grow. But if you push it RIGHT before they would gas out, their stamina would improve.

Show Name: 5SSW Uprising Tour(Wednesday)

Held: Wednesday, Week 4, January 2014

Location: Ibaraki Community Hall (Kanto)

Attendance: 788

Show Rating: C-

d(-_^)good!! :

For a show going nowhere, there was a lot to like tonight. The opening match was a bit one sided, but Chiyeko Kita took it to DEVIL in the early going. She could be one to watch in the future. The Yu/HEART feud, while a little rushed, delivered a great first match between the two with Yu Hasimoto picking up a surprising and refreshing win. I also approve of Etusko Arihyoshi getting a little revenge, and a continued push up the ladder.

(>_<) :

Shaky start to Yuma’s Championship reign as her match against Raku was one of the weaker shows of the night. While it got a hot start, the ending seemed to drag and the spacing between the two was off.

(x_x) :

Nothing really made me wish Sensational Ogiwara had taken Joshi Puroresu with her when she retired.

End of Line:

5SSW had their big show last week, but the tour continues on. Obviously they don’t want to start anything big before the next tour, but they still gave us HEART vs. Yu and another page for the Shiori vs. Megumi feud. Overall this show is a step down from the previous weeks, but I understand.

Dragonmack holds on in the predictions race, and seems set to win this short , 1 month round. But there is always and forever a chance. As we did say, the Main Event was not such an event, but the positive is we did still make a C- of a show, and maybe Raku’s stamina increases for the future.. We were lucky, yes? I do not do cliffhangers so much. This tour has one more show, and I will wrap it with bows of conclusion. But a few small seeds planted for the next one, no? Some contracts are winding down and so new faces will appear… but that is what offseason reports are for. One more show, then the eyes may nap until April 2014.

Disc 2:

All good things must come to an end, and the Uprising Tour is no different. With one more night in the Kanto region, the Lizard Queen and her menagerie wanted to make sure they left a lasting impression. With all three titles on the line, this disc rates as a must see.

~Otsune Tsumura has defended the All-Asian Title a mind boggling 20 times. The only woman to defend it more is Huntress Makiko with 25 defenses. But Otsune can’t think about the record books tonight as Yu Hashimoto is red hot and dangerous. Fresh off her victory over HEART Saitoh, she comes in with all the momentum as well. This match promises to start things off on a very high note.

~Jaguar Endo looks to end the season with a lesson to the next generation as she faces Eri Sato and Romi Yamato. For Eri or Romi, a victory tonight would be a step in the right direction.

~High Lady Outlaw have officially made their stand in the Tag Team division with their victory over The Rainbow Girls. As the rest of the division seemingly plays catch-up, they hold the high ground. But what happens when one half of Shojo Beatdown, Chiyeko Kita, and the other half of the Ultimate Devastator Lemons, HEART Saitoh, join forces? Not an easy night’s work, that’s for sure.

~One of the true winners of the Uprising Tour would have to be Etsuko Arihyoshi. After barely losing her shot at the World Championship, she finally managed to get a piece of revenge on the ex-champion, Saori Nakadan. Tonight she faces one of the all time greats, Umeko Hotta. Etsuko will have to bring her strong style tonight.

~A rematch from last night, Fuyuko Higa faces the high flying Yori Toyoshima. Back to back matches against the same opponent is always a risk, as both now know the others tricks and Yori has seen them all in her long years.

~DEVIL Karube has made her stance on the next generation of Joshi Puroresu quite clear. But how does she feel about her elders? What words will she have for “Bubblegum” Kiko Sakakibara when they lock-up tonight?

~Yuma Maruya made her first title defense against the always unpredictable Raku Makuda. Tonight she faces the other half of All Business, Tomoko Nagatsuka. Tomoko may not have the flash of her long time partner Raku, but many consider her to be the better wrestler with her strong submission style and technical skill. If she can ground Yuma, it could be another long night in the making for 5SSW’s fighting World Champion.

  • DEVIL Karube lashes out at the future-

DEVIL Karube was on the Ibaraki FM this morning, promoting the final 5SSW show of the Uprising Tour. When asked about the future of Joshi Puroresu, she had this to say:

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingDevil-1.jpg

DEVIL Kaube:

“What future? Where do you see a future? Give me three names under the age of 32 that can draw a crowd or a sell a DVD. … Okay, give me two names. One? Yuma Maruya, right. She’s the future of Joshi Puroresu, all by herself? Give me a break, or better yet break her face and watch her value die. She’s nothing without the fans. When’s the last time you heard of Yuma Maruya putting on a wrestling clinic? Never. She’s the World Champion because of the numbers, that’s all. In a one on one match, she couldn’t have beaten Saori Nakadan and she sure as hell couldn’t have beaten me.

That’s the future of Joshi Puroresu in a snap shot. There isn’t one after my generation hangs it up and Yuma’s takes over. Idoru faces drawing 82 perverts to a Community Hall to yell 'kawaii' at girls half their age? I can only hope the owner, Sakurako Kagawa, is long dead and I’m senile when the future arrives. That’s all the more reason to show up tonight. See Joshi Puroresu in it’s purest form, before it’s too late…"

  • As part of the ongoing hype for 5SSW’s final show of the Uprising Tour, Yuu Onuki talked to JoshiJoshiJoshi.com about some of the different challenges and situations she faces as the Head Booker of 5SSW.

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYuu.jpg

“It is uniquity, yes? In the companies of large and menly… there is change… there are faces moving. The lines are chaotic in the more of their nature. If a man of talent and abilities quite or common does so desire, he shall find a place of building, money and quiet stomachs. I think I can sleep well, no?

But in Joshi Puroresu, there is only one and we are she. She is 5SSW. I do not make changes on lightness wings. I can not make changes like that. Because the woman I do bid and goodbye to will not work again until I do call. They will return to the nothing if they are so lucky to have it... or worse they will fall to the cracks of hunger, and wasted years. The fantasy does crush when done. BHOTWG is not going to call them in. SWF is not going to put them on airplanes flying. So I am always sad to do the saying, ‘no more time’.

But it does make us family too. If it is good and it does grow. If the fans do connect to your face and spirit heart? We will be together for more and then the ever too. It is proof in ours, the heritage line. DEVIL, Yuma, Saori, the Huntress and Umeko. Their lives are with 5SSW, a single line that does not fade or breaking snap. That is what makes us special… the same that does make me close and grey.”

Show Name: 5SSW Uprising Tour (Thursday)

Held: Thursday, Week 4, January 2014

Location: Ibaraki Community Hall (Kanto)

* * * * *

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/Ibaraki.jpg

"Did you know that?

The Ibaraki Prefectural fish

is the flatfish?"

* * * * *

*Yuu took her all too familiar place at the ticket table. The job was hers by choice and logic combined. You could not give people what they wanted to see if you did not see them, yes? In the mind of Yuu the math was clear. She could see their faces. She could see their eyes and the expectations within. What were they trying to escape that she could lead them away from? The cold? The cold life? The cold world beneath?*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYuu.jpg

Yuu Onuki:

“What do you want to be today?”

*Did they not connect to the Lizard Queen’s menagerie under such a contract? Who was going to fight for them? Who played their inner face the best? Or did the fantasy turn sexual behind beady eyes and surgical masks. They were the simplest of all and Yuu? She did not write for them. She wrote for the working class… the young girls… the forgotten days. Those were the glasses she wore to find the colors needed to paint the scene.*

Yuu:

“You are not the same.”

*She was sure America would kill for the diversity Puroresu did draw. From child boy to ancient woman, anyone might arrive. There was no stigma here. There were no lies.*

Yuu:

“We are deep in the winter, no? But soon it will be warm inside.”

*Small fingers tear the ticket smooth before handing them back. She did not count or guess the numbers. There would plenty of time for that. She would count the tickets as her mind shipped off to slumber. In the morning she would be forced to count again.

Yuu:

“All things must end, even the cold.”

*And tonight the tour as well.*

* * * * *

Dark Match:

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Shiori Jippensha defeated Gemmei Oonishi in 11:39 by submission with a Jippensha Leglock.

The announcing quality wasn't up to the same standard as the match.

Grade: C-

Otsune Tsumura© vs. Yu Hashimoto:

Otsune gets a lot of respect from the crowd during her entrance. While technically sound with flashes of aerial flight, it’s her blue collar approach and impressive All-Asian title reign that makes her a crowd favorite. Yu Hashimoto is a loud mouth brawler, who backs it up in the ring much to the crowd’s dismay. This match explodes out of the gates with Yu unloading stiff shots on Otsune like a storm hitting a sleepy fishing port. But once Otsune gets her feet planted, she shows exactly why she is the All-Asian Champion. When the two spill outside, it all breaks down as the referee counts to 20 for the draw. He could have counted to 200. Finally Kiko Sakakibara, Kit Hatoyama and Chiyeko Kita come out and restrain the two. Otsune is bloody, but showing teeth as she tries to get at Yu one more time.

Winner: Draw, Otsune Tsumura keeps the title.

  • Otsune Tsumura seemed off her game tonight.

Grade: C

Post-match Interview:

Otsune Tsumura:

Where is she!? Where is she!!? Get your hands off me!! … … … Hashimoto, who do you think you are!? Who do you think I am!? … … … You think I’m some step for you? Do you think I’m your statement? I’m the All-Asian Champion and you had a chance to win the title! … … … But you want to bloody my nose instead? You listen to me Hashimoto. You will NEVER be All-Asian Champion. I promise you that. I promise you! And the next time we meet? You’re going to wish tonight never happened, because the payment is going to be steep.”

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/EriSato.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/versus.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/JaguarEndo.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/versus.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/RomiYamato.jpg

Eri Sato vs. Jaguar Endo vs. Romi Yamato:

The crowd is still buzzing from the previous match, which shows that Yuu Onuki is not only confusing but also knows something about the nuts and bolts of booking a show. She slides this short match in under the buzzing. Not much to see here as Romi Yamato appears to be heading towards the exit and Jaguar is heading for a gold watch. Eri Sato, a young lion, is still pretty one dimensional in her approach but picks up the win with an air-cracking Buzzsaw Kick to the back of Jaguar’s favorite head.

Winner: Eri Sato in 6:12.

  • The colour commentary gave the match a boost.
  • The fans didn't seem impressed with a young lion like Eri Sato going over Jaguar Endo.

Grade: D

Post-match Interview:

Eri Sato:

“I don’t care about the crowd.

I don’t care about tradition.

I don’t want a mentor.

I’m tired of everybody telling me it’s going to take time. I have to earn their respect. Well maybe if I start kicking enough of them in the head, they’ll start to respect me sooner. If they don’t? Then I’ll just start kicking harder.”

5SSW Tag Team Championships:

High Lady Outlaw© vs. Chiyeko Kita & HEART Saitoh

High Lady Outlaw come out dressed in dressed in long, black, Western dusters. That means they are bad and they have the Tag Team titles to prove it either way. It’s all Huntress Makiko with her young lion, Hana backing her up quietly and convincingly. HEART gets some support from the crowd, along with Chiyeko Kita, as the match gets underway. Both teams have enough tag team experience to make this close a good match. But High Lady Outlaw cheats to make it a short one instead. HEART is all alone in the end and is forced to tap out to the Makiko Clutch.

Winner: High Lady Outlaw in 9:26.

  • Outlaw make defense number 2 of their 5 Star Tag Team titles.
  • The announcing quality wasn't up to the same standard as the match.

Grade: C-

Post-match Interview:

Huntress Makiko:

“Where is all this coming from? All this talk of tradition, honor and respect? We do this for the money. We do this for the gold. That’s the ultimate motivator in this business. That’s the law. Whatever gets you the titles and let’s you hold on to them? That’s what you do. That’s what I’m teaching Hana and that’s why everyone had better get used to the name, High Lady Outlaw.”

…?

“DEVIL’s comments? What do I care about her? Youth is a tool to me. If it helps me get what I want, I’ll use it. I don’t care what DEVIL says. I wanted the Tag Team Titles. I chose the best tool for the job. Her name is Hana Ajibana. Unlike the other young girls, she knows how to shut-up, listen and do what she’s told. The titles don’t lie. Maybe I’d listen to DEVIL if she had one.”

*Huntress looks back at her disciple. Hana’s face has been nothing but silent business throughout the interview.*

“Let’s go.”

*Hana obeys.*

Etsuko Arihyoshi vs. Umeko Hotta:

Good crowd response for both Etsuko and Umeko, but for entirely different reasons. One has given everything she has and the other has shown she has much to give. The pace is slow, but not boring. It is an important difference that Umeko Hotta has mastered. While Etsuko delivered twice as many moves, Umeko delivered twice as much damage. It made for a very close match. Umeko looked like she had a shot at victory with a Fisherwoman Suplex. But Etsuko locked onto the bridging arm and cinched in the Arihyoshi Lockdown for the submission.

Winner: Etsuko Arihyoshi in 14:38.

Grade: C+

Post-match Interview:

Etsuko Arihyoshi:

“Winning? I hope it’s because I’m learning, and growing. That’s the only way I’m going to reach my goal.”

…?

“Isn’t it obvious? I don’t just want to wrestle for the World Championship. I want to be the World Champion. Winning will get me another chance, and that’s important. But learning and growing? That will make me the 5SSW World Champion. That’s why tonight’s win was important, Umeko Hotta is like a Joshi library. I’m just glad the lesson didn’t cost me too much.”

* * * * *

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingFuyuko.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/versus.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYoriToyoshima.jpg

Fuyuko Higa vs. Yori Toyoshima:

The crowd takes a collective breath here, and the entrances for both are muted as people break into the snacks or stretch their legs towards the restrooms. That’s too bad for the girls because they put on a pretty good match. Fuyuko did most of her damage early with Yori pitching a fevered come-from-behind, high flying counter. She went up top looking for something, but Fuyuko caught her on the second rope and sent her tumbling down. She picked up what was left and delivered a strong Higa Green Driver for the victory.

Winner: Fuyuko Higa in 15:28

Grade: D+

Post-match Interview:

Fuyuko Higa:

“Tonight? This was nothing. I know it and you know it. Even those people out there know it. On my worst night Yori Toyoshima isn’t a challenge for someone like me. It’s been only one week since the 5SSW Title match. I’m at the top of my game. So Yuu Onuki? Sakurako Kagawa? You can feed me garbage like tonight all you want. In the end, I will get my hands on Yuma Maruya and I will get the 5SSW World Championsh……”

*Fuyuko is interrupted mid ‘ship’ by the form and face of Etsuko Arihyoshi. She slowly shakes her head at ‘The Future’.*

Etsuko Arihyoshi:

“No, you had your shot, Higa. ‘The future’ is going to have to wait because my time? It’s now.”

*Fuyuko is white hot, but in no condition to start anything. But bad intentions are brewing in the eyes that are hers indeed.*

DEVIL Karube vs. Kiko Sakakibara:

The crowd has found their seats and they are settled in for the big finish. Kiko gets a great ovation from the crowd, at 37 years old and with over 21 years in the business, she has earned it. She has a big smile on her face that even the entrance of DEVIL Karube does little to erase. Kiko has seen it all before. DEVIL abstains from her usual pre-match intimidation ritual and stays in her own corner. That’s about as much respect as DEVIL has shown anyone since Sensational Ogiwara retired. This theme continues on in the match as DEVIL gives Kiko several clean breaks from the ropes. Without the usual short cuts and mind games, DEVIL Karube has to work harder than usual. Kiko tried to get the Kingdom Quake, but just doesn’t have the steam as DEVIL escapes. She scoops up a turning Kiko and delivers the DEVIL Drop for the ending.

Winner: DEVIL Karube in 16:13

  • DEVIL Karube was visibly tiring toward the end.
  • Kiko Sakakibara was visibly tiring toward the end.
  • DEVIL Karube is improving in Technical skills.
  • Kiko Sakakibara is improving in Performance skills.

Grade: C-

Post-match Interview:

DEVIL Karube:

“It’s about respect. Did you think I was going to go out there and be a hypocrite? Kiko has earned her place. It doesn’t matter if the fans love her or not. It’s beyond that. It’s beyond their ability to grasp. If you want proof, just listen to how loudly they scream for Yuma Maruya tonight. Kiko Sakakibara has spent over 21 years in that ring. But they are going to treat Yuma like some kind of Legend in Waiting? They don’t get it. But I do. I get it, and I’m going to bring it back to 5SSW.”

Tomoko Nagatsuka vs. Yuma Maruya©

DEVIL’s words prove to be true as the crowd adores Yuma Maruya quite vocally. She returns the favor by touring the ringside area before entering the ring. Yuma takes the fans energy and channels it into a great offensive start. The pace is fast, and the moves match with Yuma capping it all off with a Leg Lariat. But Tomoko lock us the leg in a Death Roll, and she comes up with an Ankle Lock. Yuma is screaming as Tomoko grapevines it tight. The crowd is in denial at first, but Tomoko keeps it locked on long enough that they are forced to rally behind Yuma who finally gets a break. There’s blood in the water now as Tomoko shifts her entire offense to the one leg. Cross Leg Breaker! Yuma is down a second time and the crowd gets behind her a second time as Tomoko is really shining in a dangerous, technical light. It would be a shocking upset if Yuma tapped now, but again she fights and screams her way to the ropes. She immediately holds her legs once the submission is broken. Tomoko goes for a handful of hair, but Yuma drops down into a sudden Jaw Breaker. Low Dropkick by Yuma connects, but she immediately grabs her leg and both women are down.

Tomoko is up first and tries to bring Yuma up by the injured leg. Enzuigiri! Both women are down again and the crowd feels the end is near as both women have burned all their fuel. Again Tomoko goes after the leg, dragging Yuma up by it. Double Knee Jawbreaker by Yuma! Tomoko is stunned as the crowd urges Yuma to do something, anything! Yuma uses the corner ropes to pull herself up and into the air for the Split-Legged Moonsault. It isn’t pretty, but it connects and the referee counts the longest three of the night.

Winner: Yuma Maruya in 30:21.

  • Yuma Maruya makes defence number 2 of her 5 Star World title.
  • Yuma Maruya and Tomoko Nagatsuka have great chemistry, and it showed in their performances.
  • The announcing job done by Sayuri Sakoda was pretty weak.
  • The announcing quality wasn't up to the same standard as the match.

Grade: C+

Post-match:

Yuma’s music plays, but it’s obvious that she isn’t going to be posing or slapping hands as she sits, propped up, in the corner. The referee hands her the 5SSW World Championship, which she holds close to her chest. That’s when DEVIL’s music cuts in, and those hoping to beat the exit traffic are forced to decide as DEVIL walks down the ramp. Cheers mixed with heavy booing blankets her path until she slides between the second and top rope… into the ring.

Yuma tries to pull herself up, but she has only one leg and no strength to build on. Some of the crowd egg DEVIL on, but most tell her ‘no!’ as her eyes cut into the prone Champion. But instead she turns her eyes to Tomoko Nagatsuka. The ‘no-name’ woman who had just taken Yuma to the limit. DEVIL offers her a hand up, and then raises that same hand high and in the center of the ring. Stealing Yuma’s emotional pay out, she slowly turns with Tomoko’s arm still raised high. The final image the fans would go home with and the final image of the 5SSW Uprising Tour. Who wins in the end? Indeed.

Now that was a great show and a great main event! In fact its better than I have been getting for awhile now. Congratulations on getting all the lines to connect for that show. ;)

It was surprising for me. I may have to think about Tomoko more and deeply, I think. I know, I saw your last show, no? I had to read carefully to see if I missed robot manipulation... I did not.

"DEVIL Karube is improving in Technical skills."

Again. Maybe she got a good Potential roll.

If only my booking skills were so full of peppy energy. I would be thrilled. :)

I am really happy with this show from the writing view. I think I came back to Memoirs with nothing packed in my suitcase. :o I just wanted to write again with the sudden now. But somethings are making sense to me. That is a good scenery to view at the end of this tour.

1. Congratulations to Dragonmack who has picked up and moved to right where he found his left and off. You are truly one with the mind of Yuu and as always you are free to book a match of your choosing for the upcoming tour. It is a lovely thing, no?

2. Thanks everyone for everything. I have enjoyed being nominated for the year end awards, and rookie writer as well. The votes and words are always appreciated and make me smile. Thank you again.

3. I am back, yes? I did rush back, as I did say. But things are taking shape with a finally. I have ideas, but lack plans. It is a curse. I want to do everything... but it is not a possible thing... if I break kayfabe then it should break. If I will have giant demon robots in the next tour... then it is mechanicalfabes.

4. I enjoyed the last show very much. Match writings were always difficult for me. This type of general view works much better for my mind. I think the Interviews helped me see where things might be flowing. (See ideas no plans).

5. Thanks so much for joining the story pages that do turn and dogear. Times have done their changing, and this is my third Memoir of the variety known as Yuu. Everybody reading and guessing and commenting has made this a much more actualy type of fun to me. :) Arigatou!

6. Off-season. We will see some gears, and moving grind as we do head for the tour quite next. Yuu's stated quest for National size may be more than impossible... but it is stated none or less. The honeymoon does end soon as always. The Lizard Queen will not always be so pleasant if history does mean anything. Watching, waiting, eyes...

*The women of 5SSW had scattered to the very wind that had blown Yuu Onuki back into their fold. They had boarded trains and busses in various states of intoxication, until there was nothing left of 5SSW but two trucks on the road home to the Kinki region. It was also known as the road home. The cab heater could have put a bull elephant to sleep, and indeed Umeko Hotta has succumbed quite some time ago. Her copy of ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ held against her stomach as the truck rattled on. But Yuu Onuki was no bull elephant, the lines in her mind weaved with the road. It kept her awake. It kept her tuned. She stole a quick glance at Umeko, and then signaled to the slow lane. It would be 3 hours before they pulled in.*

*Sakurako Kagawa, the owner and Lizard Queen of them all, had taken the nights money. It was one thing less she would have to do before she crawled into bed. One less thing on her mind of future tenses. Umeko had a doctor’s appointment the following day. The doctor usually kept her overnight so they could glue her knees back together. That would give Yuu even more time to sleep beneath the sea of lines… oblivious to them all.*

*When Yuu returned to 5SSW, it had been quite and sudden. She had taken over Umeko’s spare room, and had found little reason to leave. They were… compatible. Umeko’s love of books and words had somehow made her able to understand Yuu’s mind. Yuu liked being understood at this point in her life, 44 years of age. So much of the roster did not quite ‘get’ her. They smiled. They laughed. They even liked her. But they just did not quite translate it all to being.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYuu.jpg

Yuu Onuki:

“But what do I do for you, no?”

*No, that would be a question for another day. One thing she did for Umeko was not wake her up with stupid, internal questions. It was small things like that made things work or break to the lowest levels of down. Of her relationship with Umeko Hotta, it was surely not broken. That was one thing she could say and tuck away in corners.*

Monday, Week 1, February 2014:

Post-tour Meeting:

*It was one thing to meet Sakurako Kagawa in a group setting. You could hide behind other faces, items or names. It was quite another thing indeed to meet this same woman one on one. Her attention undivided and pure could melt steel or form icebergs. That was the Lizard Queen in essence, and that was the woman Yuu found waiting for her at a small, but fashionable coffee shop about 7 blocks from the 5SSW dojo.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/TalkingYuu.jpg

Yuu Onuki:

(Head Booker)

“It is morning, yes? Kagawa-san.”

*Yuu bowed her unusual greeting and waited to be motioned over. Formalities that Yuu often stumbled over, or forgot completely, she tried to observe. The air was thick and heavy with coffee aged. Yuu was glad she had eaten a light breakfast to offset the atmosphere. Sakurako Kagawa aka The Lizard Queen aka The Owner of 5SSW looked over, and finally motioned Yuu to join her.*

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Ippotamus/TEWTalkingHeads/SakurakoKagawa.jpg

Sakurako Kagawa:

(Owner)

“Good morning.”

*Papers, files, receipts and more lay in several stacks on the table. That meant they were things that Sakurako wanted to talk about. Yuu pulled her messenger bag over her head and lifted a flap. She added more papers to the table, notes marked on yellow post-its broke the monotony.*

“Please, sit down.”

“Thank you.”

*Yuu lowered herself into the chair across from Sakurako. The owner of the coffee shop walked quietly over and added a fresh cup of coffee to the table, to which Yuu mumbled her thanks. On the air was a Peanuts song, something her Mother would have listened to. She could feel the Lizard Queen’s eyes finally take hold of her.*

“It has been a long time since we have had one of these, Yuu.”

“Yes, Kagawa-san. The time it is of three years.”

“Please, drop the formalities Yuu. It’s 9 in the morning and we have said our proper greetings. We know I’m the boss and you’re not, so please. Drink your coffee and get your particular kind of mind on the business at hand.”

*Sakurako’s voice was patient but also direct. Nobody in Joshi Puroresu was a morning person. But it made it the perfect time for business. Sakurako added cream to her coffee, while Yuu took it black.*

“Tell me a story, Yuu. I’ll tell you when you’ve skipped my favorite part.”

“Yes, Kagawa-san.”

*Yuu cleared her voice, and tried not to clear her mind at the same time.*

“There were many things, no? This tour was not our monument to best. It was a change of frantic, mid-stream. But some very good things did survive.”

*There were some very bad things too. They both knew that. But the Lizard Queen seemed content with saving the worst for later.*

Regional Battles:

“We were in a Regional Battle. But it was not a Regional Battle. It did stretch and tie the entire land or country. In each Region, we did place 2nd. In Tohoku? We were 1st.”

*Yuu paused by design. Sakurako did love to win, so she let her enjoy the small victory before she continued to on.*

Ranking:

“Totalextremepuroresu.co.jp rankings have us listed at #5 in our Japan. We are the #1 Regional sized company. On the Earth which we do call our only home? We are 13th out of 38 companies that do perform as we do.”

Money:

“We’re coming to my favorite part, Yuu.”

*There was no smile on her face. She had the information already. She just wanted to Yuu to say it. She wanted Yuu to own it.*

“For January we lost $20,320.”

*There was a silence that Yuu could have done with out.*

“And how much did we lose in December, Yuu? The month before you arrived?”

“We made $345,928 in the time that was before me, December.”

*Another long silence that Yuu hated worse than the first.*

“That’s interesting, isn’t it? Now, before you offer your excuses. I know exactly why we lost that money. You took us out of our home region, Kinki. That is a move I fully support. But I want you remember these numbers Yuu. Because that is the kind of money I want to make in Kanto. That is the kind of money I want to make in Hokkaido. I like making money Yuu. That is the one thing I didn’t miss about you and your latest departure. Your replacement made me a lot of money, Yuu. The only problem is he sold our future to make it.”

*The Lizard Queen spoke matter-of-factly. She did not give herself to cheap fits of anger. She was not a drama Queen, and that’s why they were the last Joshi Puroresu company on the face of the planet they both shared. From her own stack of papers, Sakurako took the company bank book and slid it over to Yuu.*

“That book is up to date, Yuu. How much money does 5SSW have?”

“$7,013,137. It is the exact and amount…”

“Quite, and I would rather not go any lower than that. Make that an unofficial goal of mine, if you will. Keep my numbers happy Yuu, and I will give you free hands. I may even take a vacation. I know how much you love to muck about when I’m kilometers away.”

*What booker did not like a free hand or two? Sakurako Kagawa had been known to take months off if 5SSW was in a happy place, and indeed Yuu had run quite and amuck the same.*

Personnel:

“It is your goals, yes? I would like to speak up and on them t/”

“Romi Yamato and Jaguar Endo? You can not change my mind, Yuu. You’re lucky I didn’t make you fire them. But I met you in the middle, this time. Their contracts are up. I have paid for their services and I do not require any more. Jaguar knows her time is up. She thanked me herself for the run. But Romi Yamato? I’m tired of these talented paper girls. Do you know I found her crying in the changing room? Crying!? If the Magic Three ever heard about this, they’d come back and burn us to the ground on principal alone. No, if these girls aren’t tough enough to take a broken nose or two, I don’t want them here. More than that, I won’t have them here. I don’t need another Sensational Ogiwara, but at least find me someone who can put together a 6 minute match without breaking down afterwards. I am too old to play Mother anymore.”

*Yuu started to smile, but Sakurako caught it quick.*

“And so are you, by the way.”

*Yuu did not complete her smile out loud.*

“Yes, Kagawa-san. It would seem so too much.”

In the end, Yuu I am happy with the Uprising Tour. I think Yuma Maruya was an excellent choice for World Champion. She is young, fresh and her face looks good on almost everything we might sell. But the veterans are going to give you a very hard time. I can almost promise you that. DEVIL Karube alone is going to be in your ear and behind your back. We need them, so be careful with the politics Yuu. You always were clumsy at best with that.”

*It was true and indeed. She did not consider outside forces in her work. But they did need the veteran’s skill and knowledge. There was no other way to build or pass down.*

“I wish they could think and move more like Makiko-san. With Hana, together they make new things.”

”High Lady Outlaw? Great tag team, but the division is still soft. We need some more face teams.”

”It is a strong line in the future, yes? I do promise.”

*Promise indeed, many did Yuu make at their meeting. Many facts displayed naked under the Queen’s steady eyes. But in the end Yuu had the support she needed, and the warnings as well. That was all she needed to move towards the forward again.*

Saturday, Week 1, February 2014:

5SSW Tryouts:

*With several contracts expiring, and the Lizard Queen making it clear that she intended to do just and that. Yuu Onuki had made a list and checked it twice. She did not care if it was naughty or the nice or between. They did have to be tough. They had to have stamina and athletic ability as well. The tryouts were grueling and affairs. The judgements? Quite and same as the judges: Sakurako Kagawa(owner), Yuu Onuki(head booker) and Kit Hatoyama(road agent).*

*There were no silly games. There were no comedic moments. It was sweat. It was muscle and it was body. The tryouts started in the gym across town, before ending in the warehouse that was the 5SSW dojo. Each judge had a voice, but it was the Lizard Queen who could change the course of all. Rei Chikanatsu was a clear example, yes? She had been one half of the Ultimate Devastator Lemons, one of 5SSW’s most successful tag teams. But Sakurako Kagawa did not like her conditioning, and cut her almost immediately. Yuu, of course, objected. She had wanted to bring back the Lemons. A few words were had, and she was more than certain that minds would not change today.*

*Kinuye Mushashiba was cut the second day for plain unluck. She sprained her ankle in a wild twist. She could not continue on, and did not try enough to do so. The Giant Kaori, who reminded us each and everyone of Crusher Ichihara until she tried to wrestle was sent home shortly after.*

*The standout of the first day was unanimous to the judges. It was the returning Yukiko Mastumara. A high flying, fan favorite who had done much work with 5SSW in the past. But unlike Rei, she had kept her conditioning and looked stronger than they could remember. She worked harder than the younger girls as well, much to the judge’s general dismay. Yukiko Matusumara was signed immediately, while the others were sent home to wait and see if they would be joining the most famous of them all, 5SSW.*
