Coach Mau and his Career

Recommended Posts

Week 11 - #10 Texas(5-3) @ #13 Tennessee (8-1) - UT by 1 It should be another great game for us. We continue the toughest schedule(I think so anyways) in the country. There isn't a whole lot to report on this game, most players are fully healed from injuries. Nobody too important failing. We're set to go. 1st Quarter The first two drives for each team has lead to 0 points. For us, we've lost a total of 10 yards, for the Vols, they've gained 40 yards. Not a pretty game thus far. But after forcing Tennessee to punt again, we take two plays from midfield to get into the endzone. A 44 yard pass set up a three yard touchdown pass to Forsey for a 7-0 lead. But with two minutes to go UT ties it back up at 7. 2nd Quarter Simmons gets us the lead back with his leg, a 36 yard field goal makes it 10-7. Very evenly matched battle so far. Both teams with a turnover. Tennessee gets the lead back with 2 minutes to play in the half. It's 14-10 after their touchdown. Matthews gets us back on the board as the time nearly runs out. We get into the endzone on a Matthews three yard touchdown run. 17-14 as we head into halftime. 3rd Quarter Tennessee gets the scoring going first in the second half. They tie it up with a field goal and it's 17-17. Our defense is having some problems stopping these guys, but they're stopping them at the right times, at least. Our next two drives stall on the opponents 30 yard line each time as we turn it over on downs twice in a row... but as we head into the fourth quarter, we've got the ball at our 34 yard line. 4th Quarter We get a chance to get into the endzone as we were 1st and Goal on the 8 yard line, but we don't get anywhere and have to settle for three. 20-17, five minutes into the final quarter. A five minute drive allows for us to put the game away as the offense comes up huge on 3rd and 15. Barno took in a screen play from Johnson and took it all the way down to the 1 yard line for a 40 yard gain. Barno took the handoff on the next play and took it in for a score. 27-17 with three minutes to play in this one. Barno finishes with 133 yard rushing as we win this one quite comfortably, for the most part. We knew we had it in our hands but we couldn't put 'em away for good until the end. With this win we've gained some love in the human polls again, jumping back up to #7 but in the important poll, we're #13, which is okay, since there are still some good games to go for us. Week 12 - Baylor(3-7) @ #7 Texas (6-3) - Us by 11 We find out some bad news as WR McCleskey, DE Brubaker, RB Matthews will all miss the next two games due to bad grades. Matthews barely missed out by getting a 1.99, the others weren't horrible, but not good enough, of course. This really hurts us for our game against A&M. HOpefully we can take care of business against Baylor this week though. This Baylor defense should not be able to stop our offense...but we'll see what happens. 1st Quarter We get into the endzone first with a 10 yard connection between Johnson and Forsey.. hopefully we'll be seeing lots of this for the rest of the year and next year for Johnson's last year. 7-0. 2nd Quarter Agh, Baylor gets a touchdown following our turnover on downs in which we came up short on the Baylor 20 yard line on 4th and 1... lol 7-7 after a 36 yard touchdown pass. Chandler is the next one to recieve a touchdown pass from Johnson. 14-7 after the 35 yard touchdown play. Johnson is 12 for 12 so far with 104 yards passing. Impressive showing. Our defense can't come up with a stop on the third and longs, so Baylor gets into the endzone again after converting two third downs for over 15 yards each.... ugh. 14-14 with six to play in the half. Largent tries to do too much as we head into the half as he throws a pick in the endzone from the BU 20 yard line. Damn it. 14-14. We should be killing these guys. Their defense is horrendous, but so is ours apparently. Largent is in because Johnson was taken to the hospital. We don't know what the matter is, but it looks like he may be out for the year. 3rd Quarter Our defense continues to suck as Baylor gets on the board midway through the third.. we can't stop anything. 21-14 after the TD. Well, our offense stalls again, but we get close enough for Simmons to get us three points from 35 yards out. 21-17. Just when it looked like it couldn't get any worse, we finally catch a break. On the first play of their next drive, Baylor gained 59 yards! But on the second play, they fumbled it into our defense's hands.. Whew! And we'll get a big play, Largent connected to the freshman WR, Craft, and he took it 63 yards before he was finally tackled at the 16 yard line. But our offense stalls again and we get three more points to make it a 1 point game as we head into the fourth quarter. 21-20. 4th Quarter We get the ball back and we move closer and closer to the Baylor endzone, but we get called for back to back big penalties and we're forced to do something more, and on 2nd down and long we run a screen play that is complete for 48 yards and the touchdown! RB Lane is the one who pulled in the pass and took it to the house to make it 26-21 as we try for two points here. And we get it. 28-21 with eight to play in the game. We'll get the ball back with five minutes to go and it will be our shot to end it here if Barno can come up with some solid runs. We get two first downs and we punt it all the way down to the Baylor 6 yard line and that's where they'll start with just over two minutes to go! It's over as our defense gets an interception and after Barno powers his way over 100 yards for the day! That's a big win for us. We needed to win that one after Johnson was lost for the game. Let's go to the hospital and find out what the matter is. Injury report for Johnson: It looked like his knee may have been injured during the first half against Baylor, but it turns out it was just a small sprain and he'll be good to go against A&M after the bye week! Whew! That saves us big team, despite a great showing from Largent in the second half. Statistically for the season, we're pretty average. We rank 56th offensively, and 36th defensively. I suspect that numbers will improve defensively some more as we close out the last two games of the year. But still. We're pretty bad as a whole this year. Ok St came out with a win against A&M clinching their title for the South. We'll be playing out for second place.
Baylor: 21, Texas: 28

Yearly Award Finalists Announced Coach of the Year: Michael Mau - I don't know how I would win over some of the coach's out there. Northern Illinois still hasn't lost. 11-0 and they're not in the top 10 in the GDCS. Ouch. Gamebreaker Finalist: CB Greg Wyche - This kid has come up big for us in more than one occasion, I can understand this nomination. That is all for this year.

Week 14 - #6 Texas (7-3) @ #25 Texas A&M(5-5) - Us by 7. Our last conference game, and a critical one as it will solidify second place for us in the south if we win. We'll also need wins in our last two games of the year if we want a shot at a GDCS Bowl otherwise we may be stuck playing 8-3 SDSU! ;) We really should blow these guys out no problem. They do have good players, but not good enough. 1st Quarter We open up the game with the ball and we open up by getting a quick touchdown. Johnson to WR Baugh for his first touchdown of the year. 7-0. The Aggies answer back with a field goal to make it 7-3 still early on. Barno eclipses the 100 yard mark on our next drive as he explodes out for a 68 yard touchdown run. 14-3 after that brilliant run. Thanks to a defensive holding penalty on fourth and goal, we get another shot at a touchdown and we get it. Chandler catches it from Johnson for a 3 yard touchdown play. 20-3 as we continue to roll, everyone except Simmons of course, who misses the EP. 2nd Quarter Midway through the second quarter A&M gets three more points back with another field goal. 20-6. That will be all the scoring for the second quarter as we hold the lead going into the half. 20-6. Barno needs to explode for another big run as we get going in the second half. 3rd Quarter Well, I was half right about my last statement. I for some reason thought we got the ball to open the half, but we didn't, we kicked off. But, we did get it to start the half thanks to a fumble on the kickoff return. Ouch. 22 yard line is where we start, of A&M. We decide to run the play that allowed Barno to go 68 yards for the touchdown, and it works again as Barno takes it in from 22 yards out to make it 27-6. It'll be another field goal for the Aggies as they make it 27-9. 4th Quarter We open up the fourth quarter with a field goal making it 30-9. Craft gets the next touchdown for us. 37-9 as we continue to coast quite easily. A&M will get their only touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter and that will be the end of it. 37-16 is the final score. Barno finishes with nearly 200 yards rushing. Great game all around for everyone, even the defense for the most part. We move to 8-3 and we will be tied for second with Oklahoma, but we beat them head to head giving us the lone spot for second place in the North. The reason they finished with only two losses is because they upset Ok State this week! Wow! That really throws a wrench into deciding the national championship game! Wow wow. Right now, 10-1 Cal and 11-0 VT will face off for the NC, but that can change as there is quite a battle for the second spot! 11-0 Northern Illinois will probably be left out of the mix at #8 in the GDCS. They may gain a few more spots in the final weeks of the season, but not enough spots I imagine.
Texas: 37, Texas A&M: 16

Week 15 - #23 Wisconsin (7-4) @ #5 Texas (8-3) - Us by 10 We have the toughest schedule in the country, says the NCAA. True that. Hopefully it will allow us to get a GDCS bid if we can jump a few spots this week from #10 to Top 6 spot, but I don't see that happening with three losses. Wisconsin is a decent opponent, but they're not that good anymore since the loss of the best back in the country along with a few other players that wanted to enter the draft. So we should have no problem handling these guys. 1st Quarter Our secondary doesn't want to get picked on this week so Douglass intercepts a pass and returns it 85 yards for the touchdown on the second play of the game! WOW! 7-0 we get off to a good start. Wisconsin gets those seven points back quickly as they move down the field efficiently. 7-7. It looks like us not getting picked on was just a one time thing on defense. Wisconsin continues to dismantle our secondary as they get another six points through the air. 14-7. But Wisconsin's defense isn't any better than ours as Johnson takes advantage of their backs as well. We get the six right back in a hurry, 14-14 as Johnson connects with Craft. This is going to be a high scoring game, eh. 2nd Quarter Holy crapness. OUr defense continues to suck majorly as we give up a first down on 2nd and 27, which allowed them to score on the next play from 16 yards out in the air. Jeebuz. 21-14 as WI opens up the quarter with a touchdown. Oh, no! Barno fumbles it deep in UW territory as we turn it over.. ugh.. will our defense come up with a stop now? We need it. It looks like it's a job for the 5-2 defense... and indeed it is as we force them three and out, but they get it right back thanks to a fumble on the return...*sigh* One play, 36 yards, touchdown. Wisconsin extends the lead to 14, 28-14... wow! Penalties, penalties, penalties.. We're killed by 'em as we punt it away again which allows Wisconsin to move down the field again, but this time they only get three points. 31-14. On the kickoff, Tatum takes it 90 yards for the touchdown, so we're right back in it! 31-21! What an odd odd game! STill four to play in the half. We miraculously hold Wisconsin to a field goal as they were able to get to the 1 yard line for 1st and Goal. We sacked 'em for 11 yards which made them not be able to score and they eventually kick a field goal to end the half. WHEW! 34-21 at the half. 3rd Quarter Oooooh, lordy. A 41 yard touchdown play is called back due to a hold. Then a 51 yard touchdown play is called back to a hold(VERY NEXT PLAY EVEN). And then Johnson throws a pick. WOW! This game is really dickin' with me. LMAO! The strangeness continues as Douglass returns his second interception for a touchdown, this one 47 yards! 34-28 as it's a one possession game again... and we're only 3 minutes into the half. WAHOO as we force 'em to punt on their next drive. 37-28 as UW gets the scoring rolling again with a few minutes left in the third. We were able to come up with a nice stop to prevent them from scoring another touchdown. The Badgers close out the fourth quarter with another field goal, making it 40-28. 4th Quarter We come up huge on third and goal from the 14 yard line. Johnson nailed Chandler for the score to make it 40-35 with 10 to play. Oooh, no. Our defense gets a three and out and we fumble it again on the punt return... Wisconsin ball in our territory with no effort. The defense comes up with the stop but Wisconsin nails the long 50 yard field goal. 43-35. Critical situation as we face a 4th and Goal on the 2 yard line with under five to play in the ball game. We decide to go for it, as always. It pays off as Johnson hits Chandler for the second time today. 43-41 and we'll get a shot to tie it up. And we do! 43-43! 4:08 to go. Wyche comes up with the pick on the first play of the Wisconsin drive! Woohoo. But it was picked off on our side of the field, so we'll need to work our way down for some points. We come up empty handed on our drive and Wisconsin will start their drive on the 27 yard line with 2:00 left to play! What a finish, folks. It looks like we'll head into overtime unless Wisconsin comes up with a safety here as we start the last drive on the 4 yard line with 49 seconds to go. Overtime We'll start out on defense, and that's a good thing because we've been playing real well on defense as of lately. Ooh, boy. 3rd and Goal on the 2, Wisconsin throws an incomplete pass but there is a roughing the passer and they'll get another set of downs. Touchdown two plays later. 50-43. All we need is two plays as we gain 10 and 15 yards, the 15 yarder was a touchdown pass to Chandler, his third of the day. 50-50. Our ball first next time. Overtime Two We open up the OT with a 23 yard passing gain and we run it in with Barno two plays later. 57-50. Now we really need a stop. Wisconsin opens up with a penalty following a 12 yard gain.. So they'll start with 1st and 15 instead. Our big boys then come up with a big 6 yard sacking loss! An incomplete pass and they now face 3rd and 21. They choose to run it and go no where. Fourth and 22 and our defense comes up big again as DT Hawkins comes up with the sack to close out the game and the regular season! What a whacko game as we win 57-50! We finish 9-3 on the season and we'll find out where we are in the polls once the awards are announced.

End of Season We don't get anymore love from the GDCS Polls as we stick at #10. Oh, well. Not our year, I guess. UNI is undefeated, but may be left out of the GDCS Series. It's still looking like a VT/Cal matchup in the NC. Oklahoma State is a little behind in the ratings, so, with a win in the Big 12 Championship, they may move into the two spot, who knows. Conference Championships VT suffers a loss to Clemson! But it's not enough for OSU to overcome and it will still be a Cal/VT NC, but Cal will be #1(We lost to those guys.. heheh). We get invited to the Dallas Bowl to face off with 7-4 Georgie.. They're unranked, so we got shafted, but, what do we expect, I guess. We did beat Oklahoma, who got into a GDCS game against #3 Purdue. Blah blah. UNI also lost their championship game against 9-2 Miami-Ohio, so they won't make things complicated for the GDCS. What a last week that was. Awards Nobody on our team got any awards, as I figured. 1st Team - Big XII So DT John McNeal - He started the season with three sacks in three games then calmed down a bit and finished with 8 on the year. 2nd Team Jr OG Olandis Washington - A first teamer last year bumps down to second team. Sr LB Eddie Stengent Jr SS Terry Tatum Jr Punter Alex Henry 3rd Team Jr QB Jeff Johnson Jr RB Drew Barno Sr WR Kenyetta Chandler So DE Todd McCutcheon Jr CB Greg Wyche Not a thrilling year for us by any means, but not an awful one either. We didn't meet our own expectations, but we surpassed the Boards expectations at least.

Week 18/19 Notables SDSU comes up with a big win over USC! They finish 9-3. Great back to back years for them guys. NIU also came up with a win, so they finished 12-1. Week 20 vs Georgia - We're favorites by 14 My first thoughts are: Wow, Georgia's offense SUCKS! They don't have a good consistent QB or RB! If we can't stop them from scoring more than 10 points I will be very upset. This is a game we really need; for the players and for me. The seniors need a big game if they want to get drafted and a few of them haven't really showed they aren't ready for the next level...this is the time to show up. For me, I need this win otherwise it was a poor, unsuccessful season. I will have an increased chance next year to do better because we're still a good, young team. But I want to help myself out for next year right now!

Pretty simple. UG's offense stinks but there defense actually compares to ours, but will that be enough to keep them in the game without their offense scoring? 1st Quarter Wyche opens up the game with a nice return to mid field and that's where we'll begin our blowout, I suspect. Oops, a penalty, holding so we'll start 10 yards further back. Oh well. We move all the way to the 15 yard line where Johnson tried to throw a swing pass to RB Donald Lane (who was in for a tired Barno and Matthews is sitting behind Lane now because Lane was doing so much better than him) who put a hand on it, let it bounce off his shoulder pads and the ball went into the air where Georgia picked it off. The blame falls on Lane, not Johnson there. Finally with two minutes to go in the first quarter we cap off a good drive with a 26 yard field goal from Simmons. 3-0 as we near the end of the first. We're getting a good game from Johnson so far, and Barno too, but not from his running. Our defense comes up big for the second time today as McCutcheon picks up a sack to force the Bulldogs do punt it back as we begin the second quarter. McNeal and McCutch both have big sacks already today. 2nd Quarter Our drive ends quickly and Georgie finally does something good...they return the punt 77 yards for the touchdown to make it 7-3. That's the only way they're going to score today... through non-offense stuff, so be it. Well, I guess I take that back as Georgia's offense gets them a touchdown following Johnson's second pick of the afternoon. Our defense kept coming up on the short side of things.. they'd make a few nice stops but then they'd give up a big play. 14-3. Johnson throws his third pick of the day! The second caused by the faulty hands of our receivers! Ugh. 21-3 with over four to play in the half as UG gets another touchdown. We've totally underestimated them apparently, or our scouting completely sucks.. I hope its the first part so we've got a chance to come back. Barno is sick of this crap, he takes the first handoff 25 yards then he takes the next one 59 yards for the touchdown. 21-10 as Barno takes care of things. Way to keep us in the game defense! Not. 28-10 as Georgia starts off with great field position on our side of the field then takes a few plays to score..a 38 yard touchdown pass....... OUCH. We'll have 1:31 left to try and answer that. Barno is having an amazing game... but first.. Johnson hit Forsey for a nice 20 yard gain to start the drive but then it was all Barno again. Johnson hit in in an out route and Barno made a few moves and easily scored on the 38 yard pass play. 28-17 as we stay alive in this one as we head into halftime. BAM! It pays off! There was about a minute left in the half and I wanted to try and make something happen by calling timeouts, forcing UG to make some plays. The first two plays nothing happened, but on the third down they ran the ball and got drilled by McNeal and fumbled it! Not only that, but Tatum picked it up and ran it 35 yards for the touchdown!!!! 28-24 just like that. Now we head into halftime. We're outgaining them 301 to 154, nearly doubled 'em. Lets show 'em what we're really made of in the second half. 3rd Quarter Georgia gets a decent drive to start the half but it ends up in a missed field goal on the 57 yard try. Our drive ends with us turning it over on downs. We've done that a lot this year thanks to no field goal kicker... well one that can kick if 45+ yards. Georgia ball on their own 31 yard line. The rest of the third quarter goes down quietly until about one minute to go. Georgia took one minute to score after a few long gains on the ground. They get a touchdown as the third quarter comes to an end. 35-24. Now we're in a little trouble. 4th Quarter But Johnson and Co. won't allow us to cave in. Johnson and Barno were like trains, they kept continuing the drive with nice runs and nice passes which eventually led to a 3 yard touchdown pass for Johnson to McCleskey. The two point conversion fails.. so it's 35-30 with 10 to play in the game. After a first down for Georgia they get careless and go deep twice for incomplete passes then Tatum picks off there third down try giving us the ball on the UG 32 yard line with eight minutes to go still. Barno gives the Bulldogs the ball right back as he fumbled it within the 20 yard line as we were really moving the ball well.. Damn it. After a first down for UG they have to punt it and we'll get one last chance to get a touchdown. Over three minutes left in the game and we start on our own 16 yard line. It's time to shine, boys. We get a first down called back due to Johnson going over the line of scrimmage when he made his pass. That's the second time today he's done that. We go for it on 4th down and come up short. There's under two minutes to go and our defense needs a huge few stops if we want a shot. We'll call all three of our timeouts here and hope for the best as UG starts there drive on our 32 yard line. With 1:34 left in the game, Georgia will try to make it an 8 point game with a 46 yard field goal and they miss it! It's short! We'll get just over a minute to get down field! Here we go! McCleskey takes in the first pass for a 25 yard gain moving us into the other side of the field! Here we go, 52 seconds left. Johnson gets sacked for 8 yards on the next play and throws an incomplete on the next, giving us 3rd and 18 with 40 seconds left on our own 45 yard line now. Johnson hits Craft in a fade route and they put together a 24 yard gain! 1st down! 32 seconds left, 31 yard line. Whoo! We get nothing on our first two plays and we're down to probably the last play of the game, 12 seconds left. 31 yard line. 3rd and 10. Johnson takes the snap and sees Craft going down the sideline all by himself, he places it perfectly and the freshman takes it in and sprints down the rest of the way untouched for the touchdown!!!!! 36-35! The EP with no time left doesn't matter!!!! 37-35 final score! What a miracle comeback!!! Holy cow! Wow! What a way to finish the season. I'm still in shock. I'm soaked with gatorade as my boys dumped some on me! Whoo! What a great game by our junior quarterback. Despite his three interceptions, he had a great game. Passing for 380 yards and three touchdowns. Barno finished with 155 yards rushing.
Georgia: 35, Texas: 37

End of Season Notes Oklahoma State lost, Oklahoma won, Cal lost to VT and they become the national champions, but not the GDCS champs, Cal got that honor by losing.. lol :) Silly polls. We finished 5th in one of the human polls and 9th in GDCS. Another successful season, really. 2020 Stats
Bowl Bound - 2020 Texas Longhorns Stats

Evaluation of the 2020 Season Team Performance: A Talent: A Recruiting: A Board Expectations: A Prestige: A Overall: A+ Nice! Back to back seasons we impress the board. I thought Johnson had a decent season, but he really needs to improve some more if he wants to be one of the best QB's in the country... which is what I hope he shoots for next season. Barno, same thing. He was way too inconsitent. He finished the Wisconsin game with less than 40 yards rushing, but then he could have a 200+ yard game next week. I want 100+ yards every single game next year...if he chooses to come back, that is. Forsey showed a lot of promise. Leading the team with 73 receptions and 858 yards. Impressive year for the freshman. We were very inconsistent on the OL, Delhomme and Carpenter especially, but Delhomme mainly. I had a lot of injuries that forced me to play him a lot.. which sucked. I didn't really want to throw in the walk-on players, but maybe I should have for the lack of numbers he put up. Potential Draftees Players considering declaring early for the 2021 pro draft: RB Drew Barno, Sr, Texas QB Jeff Johnson, Sr, Texas Not too surprising, really. Our two best offensive players.. good luck to them if they do choose to go that route, otherwise I'll welcome them back with arms wide open. Neither of them are completely ready, but $$$ is there. Job Offers Wow. I've got 16 offers in my mailbox. Who's interested now? A few names of interest: Nebraska, Boston College, GT, Oregon. But of course I'm declining all of them. This is our year.. I can feel it... especially if our big boys come back.. at least one of them would be nice. We got rid of our defensive coordinator and got someone that runs a defense that I'm comfortable with.. which is the 3-4 defense. We get a guy who's just as good as the old one and is cheaper. Nice deal.

Recruiting - Week One We've got 23 scholarships to work with as we lost two players to other schools because of no playing time here.. which is fine, they weren't the greatest players anyways. We've got a boatload of 10 interest players. Wow. Lots of good players available for us. Week Two We continue to go after the guys we've scouted and recruited. Next week we should start signing and losing players. And in two weeks we find out if we lose Johnson or Barno. It will be a hectic few weeks. Week Three We lose a few players to other teams, so we need to make five more scholarship offers to someone.. we do with no problem. Week Four Do Barno and Johnson come back? I'm guessing Johnson stays, Barno goes.. that's my prediction. Let's find out: It was the other way around, we lose Johnson and Barno stays. Nice. I kinda hoped that, as Largent can fill the void just fine I think. Oklahoma State lost FIVE players to the draft, their starting QB, RB, WR, FB, and an DT. WOW!!!! Will they win the Big XII next year? Prolly not. We also signed two recruits this week: Players committing to Texas SS Kendrick Lewis - #22 in the country, 4th best SS ILB Carroll Bennett - #149, 6th best ILB Week 5 Ouch. No signings and we lose a few players to other teams. Next week has got to be big, and of course we still have the potential to have a great recruiting class with all the interest out there... they just need to sign the darned papers.

Week Six We sign four: Players committing to Texas WR Erik Hines - #162 ILB Jim Perry - #187 RB Ben Mack - #115, A JUNIOR, possibly Barno's replacement next year. OG Donald Hayes - #225 Week Seven JACKPOT! We got ourselves a kicker and tons more recruits... check 'em out. Players committing to Texas RB Earnest Fischer - #96, A JUNIOR: or will this guy be Barno's successor? I love a little controversy. One of the two backs will be redshirted, or possibly both. ILB Atnaf Arnold - #190 ILB Joe Dupard - #231 OT Aaron Johnson - #203 WR Coy Dawsey - #193 DT Lincoln Haddix - #212 WR Johnny Metzelaars -#332 WR Tommie Rychlec - #360 WR Derrick Spragan -#330 WR Fran Kosins - #309 K Mike Wahle - #600, ninth best kicker in the country. Now THAT'S how you do it! Week Eight Not much left for us to go after last week, but we've got six offers left and we'll offer to the highest interest players! Players committing to Texas FS Jay Sanders ILB Quentin Hoke Week Nine If we're not the number one recruiting class, then I'm scared of whomever is. Players committing to Texas RB Patrick Doxzon FS James Musgrave CB Marcus Anderson Crazy. We need two more players to fill out all our scholarships.. and we've got two potential players to fill that spot! Good ones too. Final Week of Recruiting Maybe not the #1 recruiting class I thought we had.. but we'll see: The following recruits ended up coming to Texas: SS Kendrick Lewis, 5-stars Crockett (Crockett, TX) National Rank: 22, Regional: 4, Position: 4 RB Earnest Fischer, 5-stars Blinn (TX), El Maton, TX, HS - TX National Rank: 96, Regional: 17, Position: 12 RB Ben Mack, 4-stars Independence CC (KS), Castroville, TX, HS - TX National Rank: 115, Regional: 23, Position: 13 ILB Carroll Bennett, 4-stars Westfield (Spring, TX) National Rank: 149, Regional: 30, Position: 6 ILB Jim Perry, 4-stars Herington (Herington, KS) National Rank: 187, Regional: 36, Position: 11 ILB Atnaf Arnold, 4-stars Whiteface (Whiteface, TX) National Rank: 190, Regional: 39, Position: 12 WR Coy Dawsey, 4-stars Hamshire-Fannett (Hamshire-Fannett, TX) National Rank: 194, Regional: 40, Position: 19 OT Aaron Johnson, 4-stars Allen (Allen, TX) National Rank: 203, Regional: 41, Position: 13 OG Donald Hayes, 4-stars Denver City (Denver City, TX) National Rank: 225, Regional: 45, Position: 9 ILB Joe Dupard, 4-stars Willowridge (Sugar Land, TX) National Rank: 231, Regional: 48, Position: 13 WR Fran Kosins, 4-stars Rockwall (Rockwall, TX) National Rank: 309, Regional: 59, Position: 33 WR Derrick Spragan, 4-stars Keller (Keller, TX) National Rank: 330, Regional: 61, Position: 38 FS Jay Sanders, 4-stars Paradise (Paradise, TX) National Rank: 350, Regional: 66, Position: 25 FS James Musgrave, 4-stars Lindale (Lindale, TX) National Rank: 377, Regional: 74, Position: 26 WR Erik Hines, 4-stars West Elk (Howard, KS) National Rank: 161, Regional: 32, Position: 14 RB Patrick Doxzon, 4-stars Streetsboro (Streetsboro, OH) National Rank: 271, Regional: 62, Position: 30 ILB Quentin Hoke, 4-stars MacArthur (Irving, TX) National Rank: 410, Regional: 80, Position: 22 DT Lincoln Haddix, 3-stars Excelsior Springs (Excelsior Springs, MO) National Rank: 212, Regional: 43, Position: 21 WR Johnny Metzelaars, 3-stars Ingleside (Ingleside, TX) National Rank: 332, Regional: 62, Position: 39 CB Marcus Anderson, 3-stars Crockett (Crockett, TX) National Rank: 475, Regional: 93, Position: 40 WR Tommie Rychlec, 3-stars High Island (High Island, TX) National Rank: 360, Regional: 68, Position: 47 K Mike Wahle, 2-stars Spearfish (Spearfish, SD) National Rank: 600, Regional: 108, Position: 9

Training Holy cow. Barno may not even start this year as the two JUCO's I got are studs... Other thoughts, I don't think we'll be running a 3-4 this year, but rather a 4-3 again. Our linebackers aren't quite good enough, but they've got lots of potential. Our DL is FANTASTIC, and we've got five of 'em that could play every down. Nice. It looks like we won't have to rely on Simmons this year, Wahle will be the kicker...almost 100% in stone. It's going to be a VERY interesting year. We've got some crazy good players!

2021 Season Has it been 15 seasons already? Holy cow. It seems like all the years have flown by.. and I've yet to win the National Championship! I'm confident enough to say that this is easily the best team I've ever coached, even with the loss of Johnson. Our preseason ranking is #10 in both polls.. And we're rated as having the 4th best recruiting class in the country. Not too shabby considering we didn't get a Top 10 guy. Scheduling We get Iowa and NC State during weeks 2 and 15. Team Schedule WEEK OPPONENT SCORE 1 Arizona State - 2 at Iowa - 3 OPEN - 4 #1 Nebraska - 5 at #2 Oklahoma - 6 at #11 Kansas State - 7 #17 Texas Tech - 8 at Tennessee - 9 OPEN - 10 Baylor - 11 at Iowa State - 12 at #6 Oklahoma State - 13 OPEN - 14 #25 Texas A&M - 15 at NC State -

Roster Cuts and Redshirting Well, I've got lots of decisions to make in terms of who's going to start where especially at RB. Barno, Fischer, and Matthews are all capable of starting. I don't really care who starts, I just don't want a fumbler like Barno getting all the carries. He fumbled a lot last year so I won't be hesitant to start one of the other two guys. But that's a decision that will be made come opening day, which is soon. We don't have much talent at QB beyond Largent, so that's something we'll need to go after big time next year. Redshirts: Four receivers. We're so deep here. Forsey and Craft will lead the group. We'll also have freshman as our #3 and 4 receivers. We're deep, but young, but talented. So, this should be fun! Our OL has some great talent, except at center, where it looks like we may have to start a freshman...otherwise I may move one of the other guys on the OG/OT to Center. Hmm. On the DL, we've got 6 green players... all of them are interchangable.. maybe one of them can turn into an OT? Probably not. Next year is going to be crazy for the linebackers! They'll all be fighting for a spot... We're going to redshirt a few of these guys and if they show any signs of wanting to get out of here, we may give them a spot on special teams. Our corners are improving a little, but not enough to be considered a great secondary. Our Safeties are excellent and we've redshirted our freshman who will probably take Tatum's spot next year. Kicker, Wahle, is going to be a great piece of our offense. He's got twice the leg of Simmons and a great kickoff leg to boot. Punter, Henry is probably the best punter in the country. He may be the first ever(I don't know, really) punter to be drafted in the first round. Position Changes RB Mack is now our backup Fullback! That'll be a nice threat to have, two good backs in the backfield if our starting guy gets hurt.. He's a decent blocker too... not as good as the guy that's starting, but that's all right. One of our OT made a shift to center with good results, so that's good. SS Kendrick Lewis will shift over to CB as a freshman and will likely start.

I've put the Kickers/Punters on the bottom of the screen in the depth charts, so you can see them now.. I've also put the roster report down so you can see who's been redshirted, who's a freshman that's starting..etc. Our left OT is a freshman.. stud. Week 1 - Arizona State @ #10 Texas - Longhorns by 13 We haven't started the semester yet, but our top receiver, Forsey, is already in academic trouble. He's got a GPA of 1.68.... we're going to give him all we can for help next week when we're supposed to check up on guys.. Ugh, that would be not good at all if we lost him. I'm eager to get the season underway, so that's what I'm going to do.. then I've got to run some errands. :) Interesting game of the week: Northern Illinois against #6 Oklahoma State. Last year, NIU went 12-1, so that will be a great game, especially considering Northern Illinois is favored by 6! Nebraska is number one, Oklahoma is number two. ASU has a few good players, but more bad players than good. We shouldn't have a problem, but that's what I've said about a lot of teams in the past. 1st Quarter NOT a good start for Arizona State as their quarterback throws a pick on the second play of the game. Wyche was the man who picked it and he returned it to the six yard line of ASU. Should be a quick, easy score. Matthews got stuffed on the first run, but the second one he took in from 6 yards out for the touchdown. 7-0. Some more bad luck for ASU on their next drive as they fumble it, but it happened in our territory, so we'll need to go further than six yards for a touchdown. We don't do anything with the ball beyond midfield but we do punt it to the 5 yard line where ASU will start their next drive. The ASU QB is a victim of another interception and the victomizor is Tatum! It will take us one play to get a touchdown, and it's Largent to Forsey for a 47 yard touchdown connection! 14-0. An option play turns into some big yards which allows for another option play to result in a 15 yard touchdown. Our run defense is no where to be found, which is odd because that's our strength on defense..... Largent gets the Sun Devils back into the game by throwing a pick to start our next drive. Nicely done, bud. 2nd Quarter But Wyche is there to save us from any problems as he gets his second interception of the day. The whole quarter goes down quietly until the final minutes before halftime where ASU gets into the endzone... 14-14 as we head into halftime unless we can score under a minute.. Barno or Fischer will get the start in the second half at RB, Matthews just isn't cuttin' it. 3rd Quarter The substitution at RB helped a lot as we open up the half with a touchdown, but it was a 38 yard touchdown pass to Forsey that gave us the points. Fischer was very impressive in his few carries during the drive. 21-14. It's 21-17 as ASU gets all the way down to our three yard line where they have to settle for a field goal after a nice defensive stop.. Whew. Fischer had to come out due to injury, he could come in, but we'll let Barno take the job for now as we head into the fourth quarter. 4th Quarter Wahle gets his first shot at a field goal and it's an easy try... or so we though. The 26 yarder is missed wide to the right. Guhh.. 21-17 still early in the fourth. It doesn't matter much as we get the ball back right away after a three and out... Forsey gets some more yards but it's Barno who receives the next touchdown from Larget from 11 yards out. 28-17 as we get some comfort. ASU commits their sixth turnover of the game as we recover our third fumble of the game right at midfield. Wahle gets a chance to redeem himself with a 45 yard field goal try..and nope, he doesn't. 0 for 2 to open up the season.. ouch. Still five minutes to play in this one. After a nice gain, ASU gets into field goal position and they nail the long field goal to barely stay alive...but that only lasts until after the kickoff where Wyche continues his stellar returns by returning it down to the 4 yard line of ASU where we begin our drive... Barno needs one play to dig it in from four yards out. 35-20. We've now given up 500 yards in the game to this ASU offense who loves to be in a bunched up offense. How pathetic is that for our defense? And it's almost all because of our DB's! 35-28 as ASU gets a touchdown REAL QUICKLY. Still just under two minutes to go. But they don't get the onside kick, so it's almost over. And it will be over as we squeak out a win in pathetic style. At least we're 1-0.. that's one way to look at it, but we'll need to change things up in the next few weeks if we want to continue to win. Nobody really showed too much in the running game. Fischer will be hurt for a few weeks, so it will be between Barno and Matthews. Matthews ran a little better this week, but we'll give Barno the nod next week against Iowa. Oklahoma State barely beat NIU, so no undefeated season for NIU.
Arizona State: 28, Texas: 35

Week 13 - #10 Texas (1-0) @ Iowa - Longhorns by 13 It will take me a few games to get to know the players again, I've forgotten all about them already... sadly. I don't think we'll get away with this game against Iowa too easily.. we should win though, whether it's in good looking fashion or not. 1st Quarter A few minutes into the game we got the scoring off first with a Wahle field goal, who if I remember correctly, I don't like very much for some reason... I know I didn't like Simmons(I remembered his name right off the bat!) because he just plain sucked...but this Wahle character, he just pissed me off in the first week with that 26 yard field goal miss..yeah, I had to look back). Anyways, 3-0. 2nd Quarter Iowa ties it back up later in the SECOND quarter with a field goal of their own. 3-3. Our offense has been pretty lame so far...hopefully they can step it up a little bit. The whole first half so far has been pretty bad for both teams, just six points so far and we've only got four minutes to play til halftime! Those four minutes will be plenty for us as Largent connects to TE Lewis for a 3 yard touchdown pass. 10-3 as we head into halftime. 3rd Quarter We increase our lead to open up the half with a field goal, making it 13-3! But that only lasts three minutes when the Hawkeyes come up with a touchdown putting the score at 13-10 and we're just a five minutes into the half... ugh. Complete opposite of the first half now? Not so much, but somewhat as Iowa ties up the ball game again with a field goal as we near the end of the third quarter. 13-13. Our offense is just plain sucking today. Matthews needs to step it up! I do remember that he's got lots of talent behind him and I won't hesitate to take him out. 4th Quarter The decision to keep Matthews rolling for the rest of the game pays off as we get nice chunks of yards that set up a 46 yard touchdown pass from Largent to McCrary to give us a 7 point lead. 20-13. Matthews for the rest of the game made some key running plays allowing us to extend our drives and eventually put the game away. We closed out the ball game with a field goal which made the final score 23-13 as we win a close one in Iowa. We move to 2-0 and drop a spot in the rankings.. dang. Largent had a decent game, but not a whole lot of yards.. but that's okay as long as we win. That's all that matters!!
Texas: 23, Iowa: 13

Week 4 - #1 Nebraska(3-0) @ #11 Texas(2-0) - Game of the week, definitely. I'm glad it's at our house, we'll need all the advantages we can get against this stacked football team.... we're stacked too, but not as much, I don't think. Nebraska is the favorite by 7 No big problems stand out for injuries or grades, so we're good to go! 1st Quarter Well, that didn't last long...the tie that is. Nebraska gets on the board very quickly with a touchdown that capped off a quick drive. We didn't stop them for less than three yards at all during the drive. Hopefully that will change for the rest of the game. 7-0. Good field position allows us to answer back with a touchdown of our own. It looked like the drive was going to end when on 2nd down and goal from the 12 yard line we got called for offensive pass interference on our touchdown play... but we scored on the next play from 27 yards out. 7-7 Nebraska takes it down the field again though to take the lead 14-7 after another nice drive and poor defensive effort. 14-7, four to play in the first quarter. 2nd Quarter We start off the second quarter with a field goal, better than nothing. Wahle hit the 37 yarder, no problem. 14-10. There hasn't been a punt yet in the game. Just four drive and four scores. And finally we do stop Nebraska on the next drive, so we'll have 1st and 10 on our own 31 yard line. When it was looking like offense was going to dominate all game we get two drives in a row that end in punts. WOW! But that doesn't last long as Nebraska needs just two plays, a 1 yard run and a 79 yard touchdown screen play to score a touchdown. Ouch. 21-10. We'll get the scoring goign again with three to play in the half and it's Matthews who does the duty from one yard out. 21-17 as we get a touchdown ending a very well put together drive by everyone, especially Matthews. We'll get another shot at some points as our defense comes up with a three and out. 1:30 left to play in the half and we're backed up to our 18 yard line. We had a few nice carries and a few nice pass gains, but the drive ends on Largent's pick that basically takes us into halftime. We were in Husker territory, too... oh well! Halftime we go. 3rd Quarter We open up the half with a five minute drive that ended in a 42 yard field goal miss wide to the left.. UGH!! 21-17 still. Matthews is over 100 yards rushing on the day. Nebraska got to midfield where they punted away.. wait, a fake! No good and it'll be our ball at the 48 yard line, nice! It doesn't matter as we get no where and punt after three plays. Nebraska started to put together a nice drive but they stalled and missed the 50 yard field goal try to keep it at 21-17 with a few minutes to play in the third quarter. Much different game this half. Agh.. A 63 yard touchdown for Nebraska as they take one play to score after our punt... damn it. 28-17 as we head into the fourth quarter. 4th Quarter Whew! as we answer back with a much needed touchdown. Largent connected big time to Forsey earlier in the drive that set up the three yard touchdown pass to Craft. 28-24. Great game. 12 minutes to go in the game. Nebraska converted the 4th and 2 on our 41 yard line which ends up allowing Nebraska to get three points on a field goal. 31-24. 8 to play. On our next drive we're saved by some nice yards after catch by Matthews who got us the first down on 3rd and 13 to continue our drive with six to go. The drive continues to go well as we convert another third down and we're now at the 24 yard line with a first down to go. This one looks to be over as we come up short on the fourth down at the 35 yard line(stupid sacks and holdings) where then Nebraska looked to be punting after a 3rd and 10 play, but it turns out they would rather score a 74 yard touchdown to end the game, and they do. 38-24 is the final score as we can't get anything else going. That was a pretty frustrating game because of our horrid defense... hopefully we'll come around and still win the conference. We've got the talent to, do we have the heart though? Week 5 - #12 Texas @ #5 Oklahoma - Oklahoma by 3 Pre-Game "Hello, folks. Welcome to college football Saturday. We come to you today to talk about some surprising news. Coach Michael Mau may retire at the end of the season. He's got 46 years of experience under his belt and it just may be time to cut ties with college football, he says. At 73 years old he's compiled a 118-83 record while going 6-6 in the postseason games and those games also include his 11 year stint with San Diego State U. He's definitely had a prosperous career, but he is still without a national championship. Mau says it isn't a definite thing yet, but just in case he does retire he's been teaching the ropes to a potential coach that we have no idea who it is. Mau, who is also the A.D. here at Texas, will have a big say in who the next coach is, so don't be surprised if it's the guy he's nurturing, who ever it may be." We shouldn't have too much a problem scoring on these guys, but as the season has been going we're going to have a tough time stopping anybody. We should win comfortably today. 1st Quarter Wahle opens up the game by nailing a 37 yard field goal. It was a quick score for us, 3-0, three minutes in. The rest of the quarter comes up with nothing except us failing to get into the endzone on fourth and goal from the two yard line. 3-0 after one. 2nd Quarter Oklahoma finally gets something going in the second quarter with a touchdown to break the shutout. 7-3, Sooners. But Largent, Craft and Forsey answer back with some nice receptions including a 64 yard pass to Craft and a 12 yard touchdown pass to Forsey. 10-3 in a hurry. David Matthews gets the scoring going again.. this time it was ALL him... well pretty much. He had 73 yards on the ground during our drive including a 46 yard touchdown run! 17-7 as we near halftime. Oklahoma has enough time on the clock to get close enough for a 51 yard field goal, which they drill! 17-10 with sometime for us to get another shot at a score. 39 seconds left and we've got it at the 41 yard line on our side...plenty of time. AND WAHLE comse up big with a 51 yard field goal of his own as we head into halftime! What a kick as time ran out. 20-10 as we get a nice lead going into halftime. 3rd Quarter With nine minutes to go we made our first big mistake of the game and it cost us a touchdown. Largent threw a pass errantly and it went into the hands of the defender and all he had to do was return it 1 yard for the touchdown. Horrible pass by Largent. 20-17. After we came up short on 4th and 1 at the 30 yard line, we get the ball back after a nice defensive stand but once again, we make a big mistake and this time it's Matthews who fumbles it on our own 25 yard line on the first play of the drive. Damn.. But thankfully we held them to the three yard line where they settled for three points. 20-20. It could be worse! Let's get some points now as we head into the fourth quarter. 4th Quarter After a few changes in possession we finally put something together and get six points thanks to Matthews' second touchdown run. 27-20 with nine minutes to play. Largent so far is having a career day. 400 yards passing. And we wind down to within four to play and Oklahoma has the ball 3rd and 10 at the 30 or so yard line where they gain 8 yards to set themselves up for three poitns, which they get. 27-23 as we'll take the ball back with UNDER three to go! Lets go O! And Matthews pretty much helps us put it away with two first downs but we do punt it back with a touchback and 20 seconds left.. but that's not enough time as Oklahoma gets no where with their drive leaving us with the lead as the gun goes off. 27-23 victory for us Longhorns! Great game guys. Maybe the players were trying to convince me to stay a few more years? Heh. We had a great game defensively. We didn't even give up more than 200 yards passing, which is crazy!!! Week 6 - #13 Texas @ #5 Kansas State (5-0) - KSU by 7 Will we be able to continue our success after our win against OU? We'll need to play very well if we want to win the conference, otherwise we'll be in the hunt for 2nd or 3rd like we have been lately it seems. Personally, I like our chances. I feel good about the game going into it, so lets get it going before that feeling goes away. 1st Quarter That feeling didn't last long as it took about three minutes for KSU to score with their seemingly unstoppable offense. Their offense is better than ours..pretty much at every position except running back, which we're about the same. Our defense is going to really need to step it up today if we want to have a chacne. 7-0. It doesn't take long once again for KSU to get into the endzone. We just passed the 10 minute mark in the 1st quarter and it's 14-0 already. The touchdown was pretty easy to get as we went for it on 4th and 2 at midfield and came up short, which set up a short field for the bad guys. Our offense sputters at midfield again but we punt it away rather than risking the 4th and 17.. lol.. and it pays off as our defense makes a stop for a three and out giving us the ball on the KSU side of the field at the 47 yard line. Largent connects with Craft for a 21 yard touchdown play! This followed a few nice runs by Matthews who set it up. 14-7 after a nice drive. 2nd Quarter We got the ball back but we turn it over on a Largent interception throw... but a few plays later on the 24 yard line, Tatum comes up with an interception of his own.. not only that, but he ran it 76 yards for the touchdown to tie this game up at 14! Wow! Nice turn of events. Hahah! We've been running the 5-2 defense ever since the quick scores and it seems to be working well so far... so we'll continue to use it for the majority of our calls. KSU fumbles it a few plays into the drive...but the luck wasn't on our side that time as the Wildcats recover. One play later the luck gets back on our side as we force another fumble and recover it this time! Our turn to take the lead, baby! 11 minutes to play in the half. There has been enough action for a whole game so far! Aggh, we fumble it back two plays later.. And KSU capitalizes some plays later with a touchdown to take back the lead, 21-14. Aggh, again as I make the wrong decision again at midfield on 4th and short.. The Wildcats add on another six +1 after the shortened field position. 28-14 with three to go in the half. With just over a minute to go we get three points back on a 28 yard field goal.. I wanted a touchdown but we couldn't get in. 28-17. KSU comes screaming down the field again but we stopped them just in time as they have to settle for getting those three points back on 1st and Goal with 8 seconds to go. 31-17 as we head into halftime. What a wacko game. KSU is clearly dominating, but we're still in it despite being outgained by nearly double already. 3rd Quarter Our 5-2 defense isn't really making any stops anymore.... so back to the drawing board as KSU gets the scoring going first once again. 38-17 as they've almost put us away. Our offense comes roaring back all the way down to the 10 yard line where we faced a 3rd and Goal at the 10.... what were we to do? Ah, hell, score of course. 10 yard touchdown pass from Largent to Craft puts us back into the game. 38-24 midway through the third. The running game continues to brutalize our defense as we give up a 42 yard touchdown run.. it was at least 42 yards.. he ran our defense for what seemed about 100 yards.. Gawd. 45-24 with a few minutes to play in the third. Our defense REALLY needs a stop after we score another touchdown(please). 4th Quarter Not going to happen as KSU extends their lead to 28. 52-24.... that's pretty much it as we start the fourth quarter. Largent and Craft continue to play catch with each other as they connect for the third time today. 52-31. Time to let the D-Coordinator call the plays on defense... Well, rather than scoring on about an average of 8 plays, they scored on 6 plays against our DC... so much for that idea. 59-31 as we continue to suffer perhaps the worst defensive performance...ever. Thanks KSU.. they close out the game with a 50+ yard field goal. 62-31 final score as they double us on the scoreboard along with almost gettin doubled in yards.
Texas: 31, Kansas State: 62

Week 7 - #24 Texas Tech (3-3) @ #14 Texas (3-2) - Longhorns by 5. We've got the slight advantage here according to Vegas, but I really don't think the Red Raiders stand a chance this week. Our players are really looking to take out their frustrations this week, so watch out TT! 1st Quarter TT gets the scoring going first as they score within two minutes into the game.. ouch. 7-0 early on as our pass defense shows their true colors. I don't expect that to happen much more for the rest of the game. We'll adjust accordingly. Midway through the quarter we looked like we were going to have a good drive but that immediatedly came to an end within our own 20 yard line as we fumble the ball... Ugh. 14-0 Red Raiders as they get an easy score with the short field. 2nd Quarter We open up the second quarter with a punt return that brought us into TT territory at their 38 yard line. Largent figured he needn't dick around anymore and he connects with his favorite target lately, Craft, for a 38 yard touchdown on the first play of the drive. 14-7. Nothing really continues to work on defense as TT comes up with a field goal on the next drive. 17-7 with 9 to play in the half. 24-7 as Texas Tech takes advantage of a Largent pick... fudge. As the half came to a close, Largent made some nice passes and eventually hit the Fullback, Cannady for a 15 yard strike into the endzone. 24-14 as we make it a game as halftime hits. 3rd Quarter We open the half up with the ball and we take advantage of it.. We get into the endzone on a 2 yard touchdown run by Matthews who now has 53 yards rushing on the game. 24-21. The defense comes up with a pick a few plays into the drive and we'll have a first down at midfield. Forsey! Forsey gets his seventh catch of the game and definitely the biggest of the game. A 70 yard bomb for a touchdown! 28-24 as we take our first lead of the game... and we're still only halfway into the third quarter. It looks like our defensive adjustments have worked out...what adjustments you might ask? Well, we went from 4-3 to 3-4 to 5-2 and now finally a Nickel defense.... pretty much focusing on the pass defense too and its working out well. Texas Tech ends the third quarter with a field goal which made it a 1 poitn game to start the fourth quarter. 28-27. Great game. 4th Quarter We get nothing going on our next drive and TT will have a short field to work with as they start their next drive. The Raiders take advantage of the short field and get another field goal to take the lead again. 30-28, 12 to play in the game. Our offense sputters again, but our defense steps up finally as we hold 'em at mid field giving us the ball back with five minutes to go in the game. Our ball at the 21 yard line. Our offense does nothing... -2 yards. And TT will get started on our 38 yard line thanks to a crap punt.... argh! 33-28 as the Raiders knock in another field goal with under a minute to play. Lots of time comes off the clock as we run around in circles for 30 seconds during the return... I was so pissed at our play that I went out onto the field and tackled my own player...the refs didn't do anything as they were confused on the play.. I just shrugged and laughed. 38 seconds left for us to get a touchdown that we must get to win the ball game.. no ties today. Four plays later we find ourselves back at .500 on the season.... how awful. We were so much better as a team. As a coach, I'm startin to feel like I belong on a smaller team because I can get the most out of those guys.. these guys however, they just don't feel like playing GREAT for the whole game. We played great for about 15 minutes in between the end of the first half and the beginning of the third quarter. Where the hell is that for the whole game? Ugh. 3-3 we go. Count us out from getting any big bowls now. Dang.
Texas Tech: 33, Texas: 28
