Directors - David Fincher ($125,000)

Genre - Film Noir (Or Neo-Noir as the case may be)

Plot:

Los Angeles, 1940.

Reporter and World War I veteran Edward Kelly (Timothy Olyphant) is hired by the LA Times to do a puff piece about the LAPD. Thinking it will be an easy job, due to his long time friendship with the police chief, Peter Walters (Harrison Ford), and because he thinks it’ll be a good story, he takes the job without hesitation. He gets to know a lot of members of the force, becomes friends with most of them, and is in the process of writing a damn fine story. He even musters up the courage to ask out the pretty secretary for the precinct, Andrea Danes (Stana Katic).

One night after a heavy day of writing, he leaves for home without his notebook. He heads back a bit later at night to retrieve it. He grabs the notebook, returns to his vehicle, and starts looking over his notes. After a few seconds of reading the notes, he sees two officers Andrew McKenzie (Donal Logue) and Greg Barnes (Gary Oldman) struggling to bring a witness in a case against one of their own, Jimmy Vaughan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who was in protective custody into a van.

Thinking he wasn’t seen, Kelly follows the vehicle to an abandoned warehouse, and witnesses the officers murder Vaughan. Kelly flees the scene and believes he made it out unseen.

The next day he returns to the precinct, and everything seems normal, he interacts with the officers, and nothing seems out of the ordinary with them, so he continues everything as normal and pretends like nothing’s wrong. He starts keeping tabs on a few of the officers and finds out that those two weren’t the only ones who were up to shady and unlawful activities. Unsure of who to turn to, he turns to chief Walters. The chief had long suspected that many of his cops were dirty, but didn’t trust anyone enough to look into it for him. He tells him to keep on checking into it, and let him know of any concrete proof. As he leaves, officers McKenzie and Barnes see him walking out, and make note of it.

Eventually, while looking into the same officers, they notice that he’s following them, and warn him to back off and stay away from the precinct. He leaves, but continues to show up at the precinct as if nothing happened. In the days that follow, his house is broken into, he’s attacked by masked assailants and left beaten within an inch of his life.

The chief visits him in the hospital, and lets him know that things haven’t gone unnoticed, and that he will not stand for what happened to him. Kelly is released from the hospital, takes a few days to recover, and once again starts to go to the precinct. He stays a bit late one day, and stays for a conversation with the chief. When they leave the room, they’re both greeted with gunfire. The chief hands Kelly a gun, and they fend off most of the attackers. When they think the attack is over, McKenzie shoots the chief in the leg, and Kelly in the stomach. McKenzie and Barnes disarm them, and close in for the kill, and confess that killing the chief isn’t going to be easy for them. They state that killing Kelly, on the other hand, is going to be much easier, and that he should’ve kept his nose out of their business.

McKenzie c0cks his gun and points it at Kelly when he gets shot in the head. The shooter is revealed as Danes who was staying late to finish up some paperwork, she found one of the guns that was thrown to the side, and took matters into her own hands. She shoots Barnes in the leg, and relieves him of his weapon.

Kelly, Danes and the chief are all awarded commendations. The chief retires shortly after, and stays in touch with both of them.

Kelly and Danes go on to get married. Kelly writes a book about his experiences, called “The Cold Hard Truth”, and goes on to become a very successful journalist, and fiction writer.

Supporting Actor- Anthony Head - $35,000.

Supporting Actor- Alan Rickman - $50,000.

Director - Mike Figgis - Need a Price for.

Genre- Comedy

Plot-

Sid Snot (Rik Mayall), Simon Spit (Alan Rickman) Bazza the Basher (Anthony Head) and 'Level' Eddie were members of 'Screaming Flem' a Punk band who had 1 successful album, before right after the recording of 2nd Album 'Flick the World' disaster struck and not for the first time in this bands short and turoubled history.

Sid Snot and Simon Spit got into an altication where Snot ended up stabbing Spit and the band went there seperate ways cancelling a planned New York City show.

The film starts up showing stage footage and the crazy antics of the band in there 1977-79 run.

Fast forward to 2011 and Sid Snot now well into his 50's and the only things that have changed are that he is no longer in a band. The film shows Sids life now from him collecting a Giro for injuries stopping him working (damaged ears from his Punk days), he spends time in his local record shop where he finds out it is shutting down since noone is interested in records anymore and him going into local Punk Bar where hes a good 25+ years older than the rest of the clientele.

The next morning Sid is woken by his stereo and former Screaming Flem manager is talking about releasing the Bands previously unreleased second album in New York City at a local record shop he owns there and of course Sid decides he must not only be there but he must get the band back together.

Bazza the Basher is now a Lawyer bored with his life who according to his wife has bailed Sid out way too many times. Bazza eventually decideds to come with Sid and put Screaming Flem back together. Simon Spit (unlike Bazza) has not spoken to Sid for many years and he is now a small time actor and he and Sid get into an argument and fight that destroys the set he was working on and gets Snoty fired and so he is in. Finally at a nursing home an uncomfortable Sid (who tries to get out of seeing Eddies mum) comes face to face with 'Level' Eddies mother who informs the guys that Eddie is not in London he moved to New York (before reminiscing with an embarressed Sid about the times they had sex) ... The guys leave in an hurrey before Eddies mother could tell them that Eddie died 2 years ago.

In New York they try unsuccesfully to contact their former manager on a few occasions Sid befriends misfit Lisa (Dakota Fanning) at a Punk Bar while they are trying to find Level Eddie, Sid and his friends end up getting into a fight with a few guys causing trouble for Lisa and then end up kidnapping her ex-boyfriend who cheated on her to scare him. Sid confides in Lisa that he would like to play with his band 1 last time (admitting its the only good thing hes ever done in his life) she mentions that her dad was in a band he died a couple of years ago though and shes been playing his Guitar ever since ...

.. Yep shes the daughter of 'Level' Eddie. The band end up not only turning up at the record shop but they play with the movie ending with Sid Spit stage diving into the crowd and cue end credits.

A few notes;

Sid Snot and Simon Spit argue about everything leaving Bazza to have to step in.

Bazza is going through a sort of Mid Life crisis and keeps on taking drugs to amusing effect.

Sid dresses 'Punked up' like hes still a Teenager - Bondage Trousers, Staples in his Ears, Slashed Tshirts Doc Martins boots.

Location- London/New York.

Budget- Actors/Actresses - $160,000 + production - $340,000 marketing - $400,000. Total: $900,000 + Cost of Figgis.

Duration - 1 hr 49.

After an accident in the lab that triggers an explosion, Robert Reed is bathed in chemicals and sent to the hospital. Robert’s wife Alice (Elizabeth Banks) is denied access to her husband and turns to a friend of the family, NASA Astronaut Jake Blane (Josh Brolin), for answers. Meanwhile, Robert’s lab assistant Amil is seen meeting with a man dressed in traditional “terrorist” gear (Alfred Molina). Back at NASA, Jake sneaks into the quarantined area and meets with Robert, who despite the explosion, chemical bath, and subsequent fire is completely fine. Jake informs Robert that his wife is worried and not being allowed to visit which enrages Robert to the point where he burst into blue flames. Robert burns his way through the NASA compound and runs off into the night still aflame in blue fire, as Amil watches before pulling out a phone and making a call.

We flash back to the “terrorist” who we discover is Hassen Bin Zobar and the leader of a group called God’s Hands. Hassen gives a speech to his followers how they will soon have the means to punish the non-believers with holy fire from Allah. Back in the U.S. Robert wakes up, completely nude {full butt shot of Bana for the ladies } surrounded by a group of people wearing Area 51 is Real t-shirts. Robert lets out a yell and his flame extends out burning his house down with Amil inside.

As the fire burns we see Robert floating up, to his own amazement. Robert quickly gets his bearings and flies off leaving a trail of blue fire behind. Robert flies into Hassen’s compound and lands to the amazement of the soldiers gathered. The men open fire and Robert flinches, however their bullets melt before they can pierce Robert’s flesh. Robert realizes this and begins to melt people as he makes his way to Hassen’s stronghold. Hassen panics and tosses a grenade at Robert, which explodes and pushes Robert back from the force. Hassen then takes off in a waiting helicopter with Alice in tow. Robert flies after the helicopter and Hassen tosses Alice out of it. Robert flies after Alice and wills his upper body to return to normal and catches his wife. Ribert sets her down then flies after Hassen. As Robert approaches, Hassen fires a heat seeking missile at Robert. Robert flies faster than ever before passes up the chopper which causes the missile to hit it and blow it up. This was a risky endeavor for a studio this size, given the high production expectations for superhero films. Jaguar's Den went with two actors with experience in superhero films, casting Eric Bana as the hero and Alfred Molina as the villian. Both actors do good jobs in the roles that they are given, though neither is particularly overwhelming. Elizabeth Banks, Josh Brolin, and Emma Roberts make supporting appearances. Banks, however, is unconvincing as the hero's wife, with rumors circulating that she was distracted by outside endeavors during the shooting of the film. Emma Roberts, on the other hand, knocks her role out of the park. This is somewhat surprising, as many reviewers (this one included) weren't sure that she was old enough to play a convincing conspiracy theorist. Brolin is ultimately something of an odd choice, as his talents are largely wasted in this film, given that his appearances were largely regulated to the first 20 minutes of the film. Jaguar Den made an odd choice in using an unheralded and uncredited actor in the role of Amil, given that Amil gets more prominent scens than astronaught Jake Blane (Brolin's character).

Despite a couple of hiccups, The Blue Flame is a fun film with capable lead actors and stong support from Emma Roberts, but is ultimately let down by production issues. While Whedon had a clear vision for the film, it simply did not appear to be the case that Jaguar's Den studios had enough resources to bring his vision to life.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Revenue: $1,658,000

Jaguar's Den Productions now has $1,758,000

Effects:

The film market is ripe for a successful big budget superhero movie. The first 4 star or higher rated superhero movie with a sizable production budget ($15,000,000 or greater) will receive a substantial revenue bonus.

Elizabeth Banks is dealing with personal problems and will not be available for films until Monday 5/23.

Maria is joking with Stewart when he faints. The camera picks up again with Stewart in a hospital bed, explaining that he has just been ironically diagnosed with Type 1, Juvenile Diabetes and apparently suffered a low blood sugar while in the park. Stewart tells the camera that he intends to film himself as he learns about and lives with type 1 Diabetes. As promised Stewart films himself, first learning about diabetes and then living with it. Occasionally Maria adds her insight on how Stewart is doing, often adding encouragement when he begins to doubt himself. The first few months go by fine with Stewart doing everything he's supposed to, testing blood sugar, dosing the correct amount of insulin and everything. Unfortunately one night Stewart experiences another extremely low blood sugar. Stewart confides in the camera that he feels like no matter what he does he will never be able to control the diabetes. Stewart enters a downward spiral into depression and begins to not take care of himself. He over eats, doesn't take his insulin, doesn't exercise. Maria tells the camera how upset she is with Stewart and how worried she is for him. The end of the movie comes when Stewart decides he's tired of fighting with diabetes and films himself eating copious amounts of sweet foods and breads. He leaves the camera on himself as he falls asleep on the couch. Maria returns home from work to find an unconscious Stewart on the couch. She tries to wake him but he won't get up. The film stars Zach Braff as Stewart (a young man recently diagnosed with diabetes) and Rachel McAdams, his wife. Braff directs and stars in the film and does a good job of displaying emotion in the role. McAdams does a solid job as well, but the film is clearly about Braff's character. The film does a good job of drawing attention to diabetes (a disease, which for various reasons, seems to be less frequently discussed in the media than other ailments today), but utlimately is a bit underdeveloped. A single night completely throws of Stewart's progress and while this may be true to reality, it is difficult for the audience to follow this change of moods. The remainder of the movie is emotionally stressful, as we have to experience Braff's downward spiral and eventual demise. Ultimately, this reviewer wonders if the film would have felt better with a more positive ending, as the morale of this story seems potentially hurtful to the diabetic community.

Despite this review, early trends are that the marketing efforts for this film are paying off and that the low production values, given the style of film, actually help the movie's palatability.

Life with Diabetes is an important film and, for some, is definitely worth watching. For the public at large, it's hard for this reviewer to recommend this movie to the general audience base.

Rating: 2.0 out of 5 stars

Revenue: 1,469,000

Hollyweird FIlms now has 1,849,000

Future note: If you remember, try to list your starting balance at the top of your movie posts (it took me a bit of time to look this up)

The film focuses on Richardson’s very troubled childhood, but in later stages goes on to show his rise to fame as an actor.

The film starts off with a monologue from the young Robert Richardson’s (played by Jack O'Connell) perspective playing over a black screen, saying that currently he is a nothing in this world, just small kid who gets bullied at school and abused at home, but one day that is all going to change.

We cut to a scene in a school campus, where (young) Richardson is talking to a girl, who is only named as Amy (played by Dakota Fanning), telling him not to let anything get to him, and sharing in his dreams by telling him that one day he will prove everyone wrong. After a short walk (presumed to be on his way home, he is approached by a group of apparent bullies. After being taunted, he tries to walk away from them, but is stopped and beaten up by the gang. When he gets home, his dad sees the bruises and cuts from the fight, and yells at him before striking Robert himself, telling him he is not man enough, before forcing him down into the basement to train on a punching bag, so he has the ability to defend himself.

It is at this point revealed through flashbacks that Robert’s dad has a history of beating him, and that this caused his mother to desert the family. After another argument with his dad, in which Robert attempts to strike back (but is still beaten by his father), Robert decides to run away. He finds himself sleeping on a doorstep for the night, using his small bag of possessions as a pillow.

He wakes up to find a heavily muscled man stood over him, who is quickly revealed to be former Heavyweight Boxing Champion “Bruiser” Johnson (Vin Diesel). After being taken in, the pair begin talking and it is revealed that Bruiser was formerly just like Richardson, an outcast. That is until he trained to become bigger, faster & stronger than those around him, which lead to him becoming involved in boxing. Johnson agrees to train Richardson, on the condition that he promises he will keep his private life and boxing career completely separate (the reason Johnson took the name “Bruiser” was so that his boxing and personal life stayed completely separate).

The following scenes are your stereo-typical training scenes, punch bags, speed bags, running in scenic locations, with Richardson (still the young version) increasing in size and muscle with every passing scene. The montage ends with Richardson winning a race with Johnson, something that hadn’t happened during the earlier running montages. Johnson tells Richardson that he is ready to step in the ring.

A screen appears telling us we are now 1 year down the line, and we are in a boxing ring in New York (in reality a venue in Puerto Rico, used due to the electric atmosphere created by the Puerto Rican fans) for Richardson’s first main-event fight. We see Richardson (now the older version, played by Tom Hardy) quickly dispose of an opponent with a knock out. “Bruiser” Johnson is in the corner of Richardson and suggests that Richardson should go and get showered & changed as they are going to hit some clubs in celebration.

It is at the club where Richardson meets Sarah Black (Eva Longoria, reprising her role from Rubik’s Cube). Richardson instantly knows who Sarah is, due to the fact she is an internationally recognised pop star, and she reveals that she is a big fan of boxing & she saw his impressive win that night. The duo retreat to Richardson’s apartment, and…(well lets just say this part of the film isn’t very family friendly <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />).

Richardson, with Sarah still asleep next to him, is woken up by a call from Johnson, telling him to turn on the TV and see what’s on ESPN. There is a documentary on TV, with both of Richardson’s parents (with the mother played by Sandra Bullock), seemingly back together, claiming that they haven’t spoken to or seen him in years. Johnson is furious that his personal life has gotten out, but urges Richardson not to do anything that will bring more publicity (good or bad) to him (not knowing he has spent the night with Sarah).

Richardson angrily confronts his parents, and after a heated argument with the parents claiming they did what was best for him (Despite this obviously not being true). The scene mirrors the opening (Richardson being beat up by bullies) in the fact that he tries to walk away but is stopped (this time by his father). But this time when his father attempts to strike him, he gets the first punch knocking his father out, before walking out of the door.

While walking away from his parents house, Richardson is noticed by Amy (his childhood friend, now played by Scarlett Johansson). Her first comment is “Robert Richardson? You haven’t changed at all”, which prompts an angry reaction with Richardson shouting at Amy that she needs to take a look around, because everything has changed.

A short scene shows Richardson with Sarah, eating at a restaurant, continuing their growing relationship. Then the film begins building up to his next fight, with his opponent just known as Ortiz (Played by Tito Ortiz) echoing Johnson’s words that if Richardson can not keep a handle on his personal life, he will not be able to focus in the ring, while also revealing that the winner will receive a world title shot against champion George Silva (50 Cent) (the fight that Rubik’s Cube was based around).

However days before the fight, when the news breaks that Richardson knocked out his father and pictures surface showing him with Sarah, Johnson stops round Richardson’s apartment and the pair get in a heated argument that ends with Johnson quitting as Richardson’s coach/trainer.

The fight takes a very similar course as the main fight in “Rubik’s Cube” with the fight reaching the last round. Before the last round begins, while sat in his corner Richardson has flashbacks of Johnson’s advise & Ortiz’s taunts, and his body language suggest he is going to throw in the towel. But a quick glance to Sarah, in the crowd, motivates him and he quickly knocks his opponent out with a barrage of strikes in the final round.

The final scene shows Richardson & Sarah celebrating after the fight, before George Silva steps in the ring and the two boxers square up to each other as the scene fades to black.

However before the credits role, the very end of Rubik’s cube is shown again, followed by pictures of news stories such as “Richardson Humbled”, “Champion shines, challenger fades” & “Breaking Point: The End of Black & Richardson?”

Location - Purto Rico & New York

Budget - $10’000’000 ($422'500 Cast & Crew + $5’077’500 Production + $4’500’000 Promotion)

Duration - 2 Hour 10 Minutes (130 Mins.)

Studio Notes

-Ascending Numbers Production spent vast amount of time trying to cast the young Robert Richardson, and thank The Worlds Not Round Studio’s for the tip off on Jack O'Connell.

-The company has decided to spend a large amount on this film, believing it could be a huge success, providing a spin on the “Rocky” story.

-Many test groups suspect that the ending of the movie suggests a third movie in the series, this time set to take place after “Rubik’s Cube”. The tests groups speculation was aided by the cameo of Scarlett Johansson in the role of Amy, who it is believed will have a bigger role in the next instalment.

-Richardson’s fight opponent was originally scheduled to be played by Quinton Jackson, but this was made impossible due to his UFC commitments.

Movie business kingpin studio Ascending Numbers Production returns with Dark Horse, a prequel of their hit film Rubik’s Cube. The film is bolstered by the success of its predecessor and by smart casting choices (Jack O'Connell, in particular, is a great early casting for Tom Hardy's character).

Dark Horse shows the develop of pugilist Robert Richardson, from his abusive upbringing, to the beginning of his boxing career (assisted by Vin Diesel's character), and the start of his relationship with Sarah Black (Eva Longoria). The first four-fifths of this film are excellent and do a fantastic job of exploring and fleshing out the character of Robert Richardson. The end of the film falls comparatively flat (which is to say, it's still very good, but not as good as the setup). Richardson becomes difficult to like as the movie progresses, as his interactions with Amy (cameo by Scarlet Johansson) and his fallout with trainer Bruiser Johnson (Vin Diesel) make it hard to sympathize with Richardson. Richardson goes on to win the big match in the end, which makes sense in terms of continuity (that is, leading toward Rubik's Cube), but feels disappointing, given his trainer's earlier warnings about losing control of his personal life.

In the end, Dark Horse is a good movie. But it's not quite as good as its predecessor (or successor? prequels are confusing). That doesn't look likely to stop the film from making massive amounts of money however and almost ensure that we will see this series become a trilogy.

The sheer sales of this film have established Tom Hardy as one of the hottest movie stars around.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Revenue: $25,200,000

Ascending Numbers Production currently has $36,490,000

Effects

Tom Hardy will now work for 100,000.

Tom Hardy will not play the role of Robert Richardson until he plays 3 other roles, as he wants to dovetail his success in this franchise into other roles.

Eva Longoria will now work for 70,000.

Brenda Song and Dwayne Johnson brings something of breakout performances in Princess Quest, as she's quite convincing in her role as the level-headed daughter and The Rock does a fantastic job of playing the big bad villain in the film. Jaa is a bit underwhelming in his role, but the combat-heavy nature of his scenes keeps this from being much of a problem.
