The Movie Game Thread

Recommended Posts

I saw this on another thread and thought it was a cool idea so I figured I'd see if anyone wanted to play.

RULES

You start your studio of with 1 million dollars. Using that money you choose your cast, director, production budget, and marketing budget. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GO OVER BUDGET.

Each day players will make movies with the cast of their choice, however, if a cast member has already been used in any role other than a cameo then they can not be used again until the following day.

There is a limit of 1 movie per person per day. This gives me and my cast enough time to keep up on the game and not get bogged down by reviews.

If you don't see the name of the cast member you want in the post below please let me know and I will add them.

Keep an eye on the current trends, they will be a huge part in determining the success of your movie.

My next post I will include a standard form to use when filling out the data, as well as a small list of actors/actresses along with how much they will have to be paid. I will then include a small example of what I'm talking about because I realize it sounds super confusing.

If I just Lay Here - A surprisingly strong performance from 50 Cent and what many critics are calling a come back performance for Lindsay Lohan, makes this Independent film a success by most standards. While no one will win any Oscars this was still a surprisingly good movie with a decent plot. Some critics are saying that the movie would have grossed more with more star power, but they applaud the studio for making the movie not to long and not to short.

3.5 out of 5 Stars

Revenue 2 Million Dollars

Effects:

Mad do you evaluate strictly on how you feel, based on the details we've provided you?

This is just a suggestion, but what about writing down a list of potential "issues" (and successes possibly?) and rolling some dice or a random numeber generator to see what could modify the result?

Some examples of things which could modify the output:

  • Cheap looking production values
  • Publically known actor melt-down results in poor performance from lead actor
  • Changing of directors mid-way through production leads to inconsistent tone
  • Chemistry lacking between leads
  • Bad cinematography
  • Poor script
  • Actor not suited for the role
  • Studio involvement leads to a less interesting, overly predictable storyline
  • Advertising for movie was non-existent or targeted the wrong people
  • Movie opened up on the same day as something else which took away sales (e.g., Superbowl, a hugely promoted and eagerly awaited blockbuster film)

That sort of thing?

It should be met with fairly average success mainly geared towards the immature teen who is stoned while watching it. The performance of Amy Adams helped push the movie in a more successful direction, but it was matched by a very forgettable performance by Matt Damon. Overall it was a decent attempted at a first movie which should help catapult the studio into bigger things...hopefully.</p><p> </p><p> 2 out of 5 stars</p><p> </p><p> Revenue: 1,000,000 dollars</p><p> </p><p> Effects:</p><p> The movie lost some popularity due to being in the same genre as "The Mark"</p><p> The movie debuted on 4/20 which gave it an increase in revenue.</p><p> Jason Schwartzman is now available at 20,000 per movie</p><p> Mark Webber is now available at 20,000 per movie</p><p> </p><p> MichiganHero now has a budget of 1,400,000 dollars</p>

The second mistake they made was hiring Charlie Sheen who demanded his own trailer and a stipend of 5,000 per day to hit the club with. The performance of Bob Sagot was surprisingly refreshing and the storyline with Sandler and Chan was one that should have had a bigger focus in the movie. </p><p> </p><p> 2.5 stars out of 5</p><p> Revenue: 500,000 dollars</p><p> </p><p> Effects:</p><p> The feeling among fans is that Lindsay Lohan is starting to be over used.
