ECW facsimile? And tips for new player?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm a big WMMA3 fan and haven't really been into wrestling for 12+ years. But, hearing how great this game is, I was tempted to try out the demo.

At first I find it overwhelming because it's a lot different than WMMA and the gameworld is completely different from anything I'm used to.

I'm currently reading through the game's help file and that's obviously a good place to start, but I'm wondering a few things ..

1) What promotion in the game would be most like old-school ECW? Basically I think I'd want to take over a promotion that was like ECW was back in the day, pushing the boundaries in terms of 'extreme' matches, and kind of an underground/cult type following, but also with quite a number of talented wrestlers/workers who maybe are just unexposed... Anything like that in the Cornellverse?

2) Are there any full-body renders in this game, or it is all just the headshots?

3) Aside from the help file, is there any other recommended reading for someone who is brand new to the game, as well as not all that connected to the happenings of current day wrestling?

Anyway, let me know. Thanks guys.

Also, how does wrestler regeneration happen in TEW ... is it the same as in WMMA more or less?

Does the default database have any fighters who debut in the future from the game's starting point, or it it all regen fighters from when you start a new game?

There was an 'ECW Clone' in the Cornellverse, Danger and Violence Extreme, but they closed down a few years ago (Cornellverse time) and aren't in TEW2010. PSW is what rose from those ashes, with a lot of former DaVE talent. They have most of what you're looking for: a fairly extreme product and a nice mix of workers. Some young talent (Steven Parker, Nelson Callum and the prodigy that is Matthew Keith (one of the twin sons of Sam Keith, a legendary figure in North American wrestling in the Cornellverse)). In the demo you can play completely unrestricted, but only for one month of game time. You can play as many games as you like, though (and if you upgrade to the full version you can carry on any games that you started with the demo).

Of course, with a small promotion like PSW, this means only one show if you play 'normally' (since as a small indy, you'll only usually be running one show per month). However if you don't plan to continue that particular save you can have as many shows as you like within the month and muck around with it. Then start a new save.

You may want to read the "<promotion name here> discussion thread" for any promotion you're interested in. I know there are threads like that for USPW, SWF, and TCW, there may be others.

Another great source is the "small questions that don't deserve their own thread" thread...it is huge, but contains tons of great info.

Something else to consider--you may want to check out some of the mods that are available. Mods are additional databases in different settings. I've played around with several of those.

That's it. Probably the hardest company in the game to play straight. But if he wants to cheat them some cash and play like his UC got the job by investing the dough in MOSC they could serve his purpose.

Well, if you're comparing them to the luminaries of the world, then yes. Their roster is terrible. But for a company their size, the talent's not all that bad. A touch expensive maybe. 5 men out of 12 getting 800-1k per month. 5 out of twelve making more than the owner pays HIMSELF?!!! That's ridiculous.

Thats what I meant when I said they were 'interesting'.

Of course not putting on a show for 3-4 months should build a tiny war-chest and you can use just a handful of their workers. Who cares if they get angry? There are always more Ultra-violences, Ryan Deaths, Puffys, etc who are willing to put on exploding, broken-glass, eyeball matches...

D-Lyrium has just started a diary with them so it should be worth watching.
