CGC: On With The Show [8RoW]

Recommended Posts

<p>A Standalone Episode of CGC Christmas Special? Awesome! I always love it when WWE does something like this just for one night where all other storylines are put on hold and the show just focuses on having fun for that one night around the holiday theme. Reminds me of one of my favourite episodes where John Cena beat up Alberto Del Rio in the street fight to punish him for running over Santa with his Limo.</p><p> </p><p>

FOR SANTAAAAAAAA!</p><p> </p><p>

Did you actually place one of your workers in Santa's role in the game (Lead Belly? Gorgeous George?) ? Just out of curiosity.</p><p> </p><p>

Semi 1: Thomas & Gargantuan vs <strong>Straight Shooters</strong> <em>The winners of this match are probably winning the Finals as well. Would love to see the new team getting the push here personally, but your current tag champs are heels at the moment, so I'm guessing the most credible (non-DeColt) face team at the moment get to retain their momentum)</em></p><p>

Semi 2: <strong>Dirty White Boys</strong> vs Prime Energy <em>To provide heel opponents for the Shooters in the Finals.</em></p><p>

Final: <strong>Winner of 1</strong> vs Winner of 2</p><p> </p><p>

Also... Who do you think will rank highest in the Power500, from the CGC roster? <strong>Alex DeColt</strong></p><p> </p><p>

And congrats for winning DOTM (I'm late here, I know) by a landslide! Didn't get to put in my vote this month, but you didn't need it anyway! I <em>have</em> put in my vote for the survey, though. <span style="font-size:8px;">And I'm totally stealing this idea of using that survey site to help determine the Slammy Awards for my own WWE diary. </span><img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Final: <strong>Straight Shooters</strong> vs Dirty White Boys</p><p> </p><p>

Also... Who do you think will rank highest in the Power500, from the CGC roster? <strong>Eddie Chandler</strong> only because he's my favorite wrestler on the CGC roster (Shooter Sean Deeley is a close second)</p>

Prime Energy run wild with energetic double teams until Nelson is nailed with a belly-butt and isolated with drunken thuggery. A dropkick allows the tag, and Seeker bounces off the ropes at impossible angles. Fame Seeker! Prime Energy go for Double Daredevils (Legdrop/Springboard Senton) but Lead Belly catches Seeker mid-senton, and hits the RPM Bomb (Spinning Crucifix Toss) 1... 2... 3!</p><p> </p><p>

<em><strong>Davis Ditterich</strong></em><em> "After Thomas cheated to beat him at 'Chamber of Horrors', there's a score to be settled here."</em></p><p> </p><p>

Deeley pounces on Thomas with brutal takedowns, wrenching his arm at unholy angles. Gargantuan asserts his dominance, lawn darting him into the turnbuckles, while Thomas assists in a methodical, business-like fashion. McClean finally gets the tag and cleans house. Clotheslines! Face Wash! Unreal Clothesline from Gargantuan! Huge German from Deeley! Thomas walks into the Seated Stretch Arm Bar… he rolls through... but Deeley pops the hips and reverses! 1... 2... 3!</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>STRAIGHT SHOOTERS ADVANCE (8:42)</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Price hoists Chandler up for Price Check (TKO) but he starts squirming, grinding into his shoulder, tweaking his nipples, whispering (explicit) sweet nothings in his ear. It's enough to get Price to let him go. Elitist Plex (Sustained Front Suplex)! Chandler makes a highly suggestive cover, looking McClean dead in the eyes. 1... 2...3!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Introducing first, from Fontana, California. At a total combined weight of 615lbs. </em></p><p><em>

“Squeaky Clean” John McClean! “Shooter” Sean Deeley!</em></p><p>

<strong>STRAIGHT SHOOTERS</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<em><strong>Davis Ditterich</strong></em><em> “This is it, Faith. You’ll be managing the winners of this match.”</em></p><p> </p><p>

The two exhausted teams go for broke in a wild brawl that spills out through the crowd. Hogg sprays beer in Deeley’s eyes and lays him out with Grease Spot (Running Knee) allowing both White Boys to double team McClean in the ring with drunken thuggery. RPM Bomb (Spinning Crucifix Toss) 1... 2... Here's Deeley! Pouncing with brutal takedowns and animalistic suplexes! Seated Stretch Arm Bar! Hogg’s on the verge of tapping... but Belly breaks it up. He goes for another RPM Bomb, but Deeley slips free! Simultanious Backdrop/Neckbreaker! 1... 2... 3!</p><p> </p><p>

JOEY POISON makes his way to the ring. He’s smiling, but he hugs his CGC World Title tight and his clear eyes dart nervously in search of potential danger. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>JOEY POISON</p><p>

For the past four years, I’ve watched the CGC End of Year awards</p><p>

and wished I could be receiving one of them. Time and time again I</p><p>

was passed over. Time and time again I fell short. But in 2013</p><p>

something wonderful happened. Someone finally saw me for the</p><p>

Champion I could be, and gave me the power to make my dreams </p><p>

come true. Now I’m respected. Now I’m Champion. Now I’m Wrestler </p><p>

of the Year. Soothsayer! I couldn’t have done this without you.</p><p>

Come on out and join me.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Joey waits for the chimes that signal the presence of Soothsayer, but… Nothing. No chimes. No Soothsayer.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>JOEY POISON</p><p>

Sooth… Soothsayer?</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The lights suddenly go out, and a bright spotlight projects the word “Trent” onto the ceiling. Sigh... It’s the TRENT-SIGNAL. Panicked, Joey reaches into his pocket for a vial. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>JOEY POISON</p><p>

No no no no! Trent! I’m not going to let you ruin my special day. If you</p><p>

come out here I’ll drink the potion! You know I will!</p><p> </p><p>

TRENT SHAFFER (shrouded in shadows)</p><p>

Go ahead. I can wait.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Joey is taken aback by the answer, and hesitates. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>TRENT SHAFFER (hidden in darkness)</p><p>

Unless, of course, there isn’t any more potion. Soothsayer is gone. Ricky</p><p>

DeColt saw to that. Now there’s no more potion and you’re back to </p><p>

being regular old Joey. All day, every day. Weak. Alone. Helpless to </p><p>

defend your title from someone truly worthy. </p><p> </p><p>

JOEY POISON</p><p>

Like who? You???</p><p> </p><p>

TRENT SHAFFER (okay, seriously where is he?)</p><p>

No. I may be the hero the people deserve, but I’m not the one they</p><p>

want. Not yet. It’s tradition in CGC for the World Champion to defend</p><p>

his title on the first show of the new year, against the Young Wrestler</p><p>

of the Year. Who’s that? I’ll give you a hint. He’s not a bird. He’s </p><p>

not a plane.</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCminor/SPrice_zps6eadfa72.jpg</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

He’s Super-Price! “Flying” down into the ring thanks to a sturdy harness, CHRISTIAN PRICE confronts the terrified World Champion. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>CHRISTIAN PRICE</p><p>

Next week, Joey. No potions. No monsters. Just you and me fighting</p><p>

for the World Heavyweight Title. You were an honorable fighter once,</p><p>

and I know you can be again. All you have to do is shake my hand </p><p>

and we’ll go to war and tear the house down next week.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Christian Price offers a hand to Joey, who considers shaking it... but instead hugs his World Title tight and flees. </p><p> </p><p>

<p>......So who <em>did</em> rank highest in the Power500 from the CGC roster? Time to reveal the results!</p><p> </p><p>

Was Catherine Quine the one you fired, btw? She hasn't been on commentary for quite long now. I forgot she was even on the roster until I saw her name in the surveys.</p><p> </p><p>

And <em>why hasn't Pow Wow been pushed into the main event?</em> [/jk]</p>

<p>Just caught up with this, and I have to say I really love everything you're doing. I've never really been able to play a entertainment heavy promotion well, so it's interesting to hear some of the behind the scenes stuff and advice you give.</p><p> </p><p>

I might be late to the party, but I'll guess that <strong>Sean Deeley</strong> is the highest ranked in the power 500 since I remember you going on about how you need to get him to stop overshadowing the main events with his matches.</p><p> </p><p>

As for Soothsayer, I have no idea who he is, but I am interested. If it weren't for the fact that CGC is so popularity based I might think it was someone less well known like El Diablo based on the fact that Soothsayer was disguised as the Devil at the Monster Mash.</p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:14px;">POWER 500</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> I don’t know exactly how the Power500 is calculated, but my promotions typically don’t fare well. Even in private games my boys rarely break the top 50. I think it has to do with how sparingly I use my main event players. I firmly believe that the true talent shouldn’t be given away from TV every week. Whereas NOTBPW (who won pretty much every in-game end of year award) will put Duane Stone (No.1 in the Power500) on both of their shows every single week. I’m surprised he isn’t falling apart. So I’m not surprised to see my first entrant come in at a lowly Seventy Sixth. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>No. 76 - RICKY DECOLT</strong></p><p> <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/RickyDeColt_zpsc6d2167d.jpg</span> > > > > <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/Ricky_zpsd8ca7250.jpg</span></p><p> <em>45 wins in 64 matches</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> I expected a DeColt to rank highest, but I didn’t expect it to be Ricky, who I thought had a pretty lousy year. His PPV record was appalling. Until the Soothsayer feud he was averaging a C minus. I can only figure quantity has something to do with the Power500, as Ricky had 64 matches compared to Jack’s 57 and Alex’s 36. The extra time in the ring has paid off for him, as his skills improved nicely over 2013. Particularly his basics and psychology, although consistency remains a worry. One of my missions was to raise Ricky’s entertainment skills, which I did by having 10-minute, unscripted, post-show promos featuring whatever combination of the DeColt boys made sense. I imagined them as relaxed “Hey, thanks for coming” bits to send the crowd home happy. I stopped doing them recently, as Ricky’s skills appear to have peaked at a level below his brothers. His popularity has had its ups and downs. Angles with his brothers shot him up... and major losses (Gargantuan, Zeus, Soothsayer) knocked him down.</p><p> </p><p> Creatively, he’s been tricky. I came into this without a clear idea of his personality, at least compared to his brothers. So I’m making it up as I go. The Missy story was fun to write, but the Future angle has been too big for Ricky to stretch his solo legs. His Creative Control got in the way of him having a more dramatic Ultimate Showdown Series. Originally his lack of submission skills were going to cost him a lot more points. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Best Match</strong>: Soothsayer defeated Ricky DeColt (Title Bout Wrestling, September) B+</p><p> <strong>Biggest Regret</strong>: It's cute that he's a bit of a dick, but... </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>No.80 - JACK DECOLT</strong></p><p> <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/JackDeColt_zpsce8dac5f.jpg</span></p><p> <em>50 wins in 57 matches</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The People’s DeColt, Jack’s popularity skyrocketed in 2013, despite being mostly used as a gatekeeper. None of his 7 losses (Trent, DaLay, Elite, Poison... um... man, who else beat him? I need to check the data) really hurt him, and he’s comfortably the most popular man in the company. Key skill increases this year were in brawling (best punch in CGC) flashiness (Punch! Him! In...) and consistency (Marie has calmed the Wild Man down) but Selling is still a weak point. </p><p> </p><p> Creatively, my favorite DeColt. He’s taken the ‘angry’ gimmick I used with Johnny Bloodstone in FCK, but throwing in Marie and his brothers makes it different. Plus, he’s almost a father figure for Power House trainees, which is an angle I’d like to explore further. Sadly, as mentioned, he was often a gatekeeper this year, backing up Alex & Ricky against the Future. Nothing matched the feud with Trent, which was the quintessential feud for Jack.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Best Match</strong>: Alex & Jack DeColt defeated The Dirty White Boys (Title Bout Wrestling, May) B</p><p> <strong>Biggest Regret</strong>: No real personal feud after Trent. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>No.88 - ALEX DECOLT</strong></p><p> <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/AlexDeColt_zpsb86889da.jpg</span></p><p> <em>34 wins in 36 matches</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> In private games I tend to save my Champions for PPV, and while Alex certainly headlined TV a LOT during his reign, he still came out of 2013 with far fewer matches than his contemporaries. Not that he needed extra time between the ropes. He is fantastic. No one in CGC has been able to match him as a headliner thus far. Alex’s creative control only cropped up once, when I toyed with having him lose the belt to Poison in their first encounter at ‘Chaos In The Cage’. I was 50/50 on it, but Alex decided Joey wasn’t over enough at that point. He later put Joey over twice (his only losses of the year) so it’s all good. </p><p> </p><p> Creatively, I feel Alex lost something when he lost the belt. He became less of a puzzle solver. Less of an intellectual. More reactionary babyface. I’m bitterly disappointed with the Gargantuan feud. It was a time-killer that I tried to dress up as something important, but went nowhere. I like Alex’s character, but he hasn't shown an interesting weakness yet. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Best Match</strong>: Alex & Jack DeColt defeated The Dirty White Boys (Title Bout Wrestling, May) B</p><p> <strong>Biggest Regret</strong>: There’s a storyline I couldn’t quite get to work/fit into the schedule. Hopefully in 2014.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/banner2_zps7348bd80.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="1PWfan" data-cite="1PWfan" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35210" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I have a bit of a thing about powerful heels, and Soothsayer's always seemed a bit invulnerable to me. That was the entire point of the banning. To create that vacuum at the top. That sense of uncertainty. That sense that maybe CGC isn't going to bounce back from this.</p><p> </p><p> Soothsayer's perceived invulnerability is interesting, because I see him as very vulnerable, at least between the ropes. All of the DeColts have now pinned him, while none have pinned Poison. However, I see what you mean because so far pinning Soothsayer has solved <em>nothing</em>. His schemes aren't dependant on him winning. They revolve around Poison and (to a lesser extent) Zeus. And that makes him harder to stop.</p>

<p>Ok, I'm in the right mood. Time for my epic feedback.</p><p> </p><p>

-Your strengths as a diary writer are unquestionably strong storytelling(in any situation), awesome comedy, creating investment in characters that are ordinarily "derp", and the fact you book a lot like Paul Heyman. No, you don't book no ropes barbed wire matches that leave Raven peeing his pants, but you do a great, tremendous job of emphasizing strengths and hiding weaknesses. I personally believe that these strengths should be honed. When you take a look around the Dynasty section, you see a lot of guise that are only truly good at 1 or 2 aspects of the dynasty, but they do it SO WELL you're pretty much glued to the awesome and will willingly tolerate the meh to get to the awesome.</p><p> </p><p>

-You have flaws, but I suspect a lot of them aren't your fault. For example, a lot of the underneath guys seem to only appear when needed, like Dirty White Boys for a while...... Warren Technique and his old partner...... Skip Beau..... the random 4C guise..... Whippy The Clown, etc. I think this is because you have a 90 minute show, and presumably you use the pre-show to great effect by giving the scrubs a chance to develop. One thing Vince Russo did where he had the right idea but the wrong result was getting as many people as possible(from top to bottom) in a storyline that meant something, and even if it was ridiculous, it at least gave the guise a chance to feel as if they were being utilized. If you can get a 2 hour show, you could really do some nice things with this undercard due to your above strengths, and even if it gets no emphasis compared to the DeColt angles at least its something.</p><p> </p><p>

-Another issue is that you are far too good at characterization at times. How is this a flaw? When you book a very sympathetic and easy-to-cheer figure like Stevie Grayson in a feud against Zeus. Putting Zeus over Stevie makes perfect sense, but the problem is that you made Stevie into such a quality gag character that reading about him getting Spinal'd by a lightning bolt was just such a downer. Yeah, this does create awesome characters (HOTSTUFF MARIE IS AWESOME AND I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO DISAGREES), but when they get laid on the altar to get sacrificed to other awesome characters (Occurs with Christian Price to a lesser extent.), its kinda depressing.</p><p> </p><p>

-Ricky DeColt's story: Great idea, brutal timing. The way you wrote the heel turn makes absolutely perfect sense, but this is CGC, and IMO CGC should only go the DeColt v DeColt route if it ends up being a scenario where the company dies cause too much of the same thing (Which you averted awesomely here because Soothsayer.). This angle would be absolutely flawless if the character's last name was Shaffer, Price, Dunn, or Deeley, but it just doesn't work in this particular case with a DeColt.</p><p> </p><p>

-Don't think that the Showdown Series tournament was a bust. Fifteenth rule of writing: You can't go wrong with a good tournament plotline. Its a great way to resolve several issues at once and test out unused combinations of matches. Even if its a ratings failure, this diary isn't about ratings, because your story is beyond ratings at this point.</p><p> </p><p>

-Don't think you are on anything but the right course with Shaffer. Barring turning him ultra-face and making him DeColt Lite, you can't really screw him up unintentionally at this point.</p><p> </p><p>

Miscellaneous favorites since that poll is giving my NoScript issues:</p><p> </p><p>

Favorite Characters:</p><p>

<strong>Alex DeColt</strong></p><p>

<strong>Elite</strong> in general - (You kinda get what an insufferably slimy jerk Adrian Garcia should be, and it reflects on his clients)</p><p>

<strong>Shooter Sean Deeley</strong> - (Anyone else think he has Tien's voice from Dragon Ball Z Abridged?)</p><p>

<strong>Hotstuff Marie</strong> - (Oh man, the only way she could possibly be a more awesome character is if she was an absolute shrinking violet with Jack, but its too far past that point. Maybe in 05. That sketchpad communication bit is a highlight of Title Bout Wrestling and should continue for graet justice.)</p><p>

<strong>Stevie Grayson</strong> - (Ithinkhesreallyawesomehopefullyhecomesbackfromthethunderboltwithoutsomeseriousinjuriescausethatwouldbebadalsogivehimthebluehat.)</p><p> </p><p>

Favorite Moments:</p><p>

Alex: What did George tell you before your first match Ricky?</p><p>

Ricky: Do what you and Jack did?</p><p>

Alex: ........Wait, he actually said that? Seriously?</p><p> </p><p>

*Marie draws something awesome in her sketchbook*</p><p> </p><p>

*insert Price parody here*</p><p> </p><p>

Trent: Can I has partner?</p><p>

Everyone Else: I HATE YOU AND EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH YOU.</p><p> </p><p>

El Eet: Hi, I'm not Nate Johnson.</p><p> </p><p>

Sean: you probably thought you weren't gonna tap today.......surprise......</p><p> </p><p>

Jack: SOOOOOOOOULS ON FIRE.....STRONG DESIIIIIRE.....SOMETHING SOMETHING I DON'T KNOW THE LYRICS!</p><p>

Donte: *huffs and puffs through brutal training*</p><p> </p><p>

Stevie: Zeusdontdothistomeithoughtwewerefriendspleasecrowdbelieveinthepoweroffresindshipandheartofthecardszeusisntajerkhesjustbrainwashed.</p><p>

Zeus: FOOLISH MORTAL. I HATE YOUR EXISTENCE. LET ME HEAR THAT HEART BREAK.</p><p> </p><p>

Probably several others too but you get the gist.</p><p> </p><p>

So yeah, this is an A* diary and I only criticize because I like it. Keep up the good work!</p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:14px;">POWER 500</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>THE ELITE</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> My original intention was to destroy the Elite within 2013. I felt all the good stories would have been told in the previous 10 years, and without presenting new obstacles (BACKFIST!) The Elite wouldn’t be believable threats. However, the more I added ‘new’ bits to CGC, the more I wanted to keep classic stuff around. Plus, there’s a lot to these guys. I’ve barely scratched the surface on DaLay & Chandler as a duo, and I find the corporate sponsorship element charming. Trouble is, if you’re not fighting for the World title and/or battling a DeColt, you’re waaaaaaay down the pecking order for TV time. I think I may have tried too much with the Elite in 2013. Trying to give them twisty turny character developing stories (“Eddie Chandler isn’t gay”) instead of simply using them as vivid and vibrant villains to occasionally put the heroes through the wringer.</p><p> </p><p> Why am I talking Elite? I liked him so much that I gave him his own stories (vs Zeus & Stevie, vs John McClean) and then <em>they</em> deserved their own stories. Now I don’t sleep at night. Chandler didn’t improve much this year, but he didn’t need to. He’s great. It’s just a shame he doesn’t always get the time he needs. </p><p> <strong>Best Match:</strong> Eddie Chandler defeats Christian Price (Title Bout Wrestling, August) B+</p><p> <strong>Biggest Regret:</strong> I didn’t really have time, or a strong end-game, for “Eddie Chandler isn’t gay”.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>No.96 - DAN DALAY</strong></p><p> <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCminor/DanDaLay_zpsd3686fb1.jpg</span></p><p> <em>38 wins in 54 matches</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Only one place behind Chandler. Not too shabby, considering DaLay isn’t all that great a wrestler, didn’t improve over the year (except in Selling for some reason) and actually lost popularity. His most useful skill is his tag team experience with Eddie Chandler, and I guess that has served him well in the Power500. I actually have a soft spot for Dan DaLay, and creatively I’d like to do more with him, but seeing him ranked this high is baffling. </p><p> <strong>Best Match</strong>: (I need the check data)</p><p> <strong>Biggest Regret</strong>: Jobbed him out a little too much</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>No.97 - SEAN DEELEY</strong></p><p> <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCminor/ShooterSeanDeeley_zps9be24741.jpg</span></p><p> <em>43 wins in 68 matches</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Sean was already ridiculously, annoyingly good, but in 2013 he got even better. He wasn’t that bad a promo before, but now he could be in a 12 minute angle and be fine. Not great, but fine. Creatively... ugh... I’m sorry. I think my disdain for his over-the-top talent comes through. His turn hasn’t been given the time or importance it deserves. He was however strongly considered to win the Ultimate Showdown Series, which would have changed his arc significantly. </p><p> <strong>Best Match</strong>: (I need to check data)</p><p> <strong>Biggest Regret</strong>: Turning him? If you can get a 2 hour show, you could really do some nice things with this undercard due to your above strengths, and even if it gets no emphasis compared to the DeColt angles at least its something.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><em>"...it would be good if some of the lower-tier tag teams (and the </em></p><p><em> tag division in general outside of Elite) have the chance to show more </em></p><p><em> personality."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> "You may have too many characters..."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> "My only real complaint is that your usage of certain characters (Shooter </em></p><p><em> Sean and Elite as a whole has been a bit glossed over and Trent Shaffer </em></p><p><em> WOULD have been in this category before he came back into the limelight,</em></p><p><em> thank goodness too) has been way too short, but that really can be forgiven</em></p><p><em> given the 60 minute show frames."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> "I will always be happier with more since it seems a few people get a little</em></p><p><em> lost in the shuffle at times but..."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> "I think your vision for CGC would be great with an extra half hour of action. </em></p><p><em> It would allow more time for the once a month characters like The Bold </em></p><p><em> Gendarmes to shine and be developed."</em></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> So this was a common complaint. </p><p> </p><p> Personally, I don’t think everyone on a wrestling show should be in a story, but I do think everyone should have an act. A gimmick. Especially in a colorful promotion like CGC. The Dirty White Boys rarely had a story this year but they have enough character that I can drop them in whenever I need them. Whether it’s a month of angles leading to a PPV match (interrupting Jack’s yoga) or just one angle leading to a TV main event, they’re rowdy drunken bikers and there’s lots I can do with that. That’s all I want from 90% of my villains. The ability to drop into a TV main event with a DeColt, and for it to be a fun read. Early on I called it the “Bobby Thomas” role. The end result was predictable, but so was your typical episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The monster dies at the end, but hopefully it was a fun 60 minutes. </p><p> </p><p> I suppose the problem comes the ‘monsters’ sticking around afterwards, and repeated losses ultimately hurting credibility. I did intend to send a lot more guys on a lot more holidays. After Jack beat Trent at WrestleFestival, the Sparkling Vampire was originally going to disappear for 3-6 months, then return with a new push, new feud, new relevancy, maybe even a new gimmick. I never followed through with this plan, on Trent or anyone, and that’s directly led to this mass of characters I have bumming around, begging for attention, haunting my dreams. </p><p> </p><p> Fact is, a lot of guys you mentioned (Whippy, Skip, 4C dudes) are jobbers. I’ve found it’s a bit pointless to beat people more popular than you on television (it gives only a fraction of the pop gains as events nowadays) so if I give people wins, it might as well be against the designated losers. Where I think the problem really lies (and The Elite are the prime example of this) is in the upper midcard level. If you're not in a World Title program, and not feuding with a DeColt, you're going to struggle to get time. This is what 90 minutes would help. Guys like John McClean and Sean Deeley.</p><p> </p><p> I don't know if I'm making it sound like I'm on top of this, because I'm not. This is one of the reasons I'm pausing shows for a week or two. To figure this out. See what you want. See what I want. Find that balance. </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Greylocke" data-cite="Greylocke" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35210" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I wouldn't be surprise if that was the orginal concept Self had in mind (he kind of implied that he changed it somewhere along the way). The original concept for “Soothsayer” was a sexy, sexy fortune teller, likely played by Foxxy LaRue. It would have been a simple seductress management role, leading Joey to the dark side. That was it. After Missy Masterson failed to get over in-game, I completely rethought the role. Soothsayer is very, very different.</p>

Entertainment skills unchanged, but good. In terms of popularity, the feud with Jack DeColt ‘made’ him a true main event player. The reason he faded into the background in the middle of the year is simple. His contract was running out. In fact, the “Loser of the USS is fired” was created as a way to write him out if NOTBPW got their hands on him. His glittery cheating (which worked so well in the first half of the tournament) was going to backfire, draining his points and costing him his job. Fun fact, I never push Trent in private games (young talented son of a...) and his early role as Jack’s foil was originally slated for Ryan Powell.</td></tr></table></p><p> <table width="90%"><tr><td width="75%" align="left" valign="center">CGC’s top heel since WrestleFestival, Joey’s popularity rose massively in 2013, but his skills haven’t exactly risen to match. He’s a better promo, and a mildly better brawler, but that’s about it. Still, his PPV main events have been solid, if not up to Alex’s standards. Creatively, I think Poison is the best thing I’ve ever done. The concept started as a cartoonish ‘steroids’ story, and I think Joey got the role due to his name more than anything. It took some time for the DeColts to agree to lose to him, but once Jack did it, he was made. My only regret is that it took me too long to realize that his paranoid Dr. Jekkyl persona could be an interesting counterpoint to the monstrous Mr. Hyde.</td><td width="25%" align="center" valign="center"> <strong>No.124 - (JOEY) POISON</strong></p><p> <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCminor/JoeyPoison_zps38e450f6.jpg</span></p><p> <em>38 wins in 57 matches</em> </td></tr></table></p><p> <table width="90%"><tr><td width="25%" align="center" valign="center"><strong>No.126 - CHRISTIAN PRICE</strong></p><p> <span>http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCminor/ChristianPrice_zps345eba1c.jpg</span></p><p> <em>58 wins in 75 matches</em></td><td width="75%" align="left" valign="center"> I was rather annoyed when I saw that Christian Price was the guy CGC pushed between TEW’10 & ‘13. I had half a mind to do nothing with him, but Dragonmack posted something before ‘Elimination’ that I took as a challenge, and after a few sleepless nights I came up with this guy. Watching The Hobbit gave me the idea of entrances. The internet’s obsession with Jennifer Lawrence gave me the starting point for the personality. An anti-DeColt not suited for the limelight. A lot of his scenes and stories are written last-minute, as unlike the other top babyfaces there’s never been a longterm plan. I both love and hate his entrances. It’s a shame Bobby has the ‘jobber to the stars’ stigma, as he’s very, very good. When developing talent in Funtime Combat Kingdom, I repeatedly ask myself “Can this guy be the next Bobby Thomas?”. I’m not looking for WrestleFestival main event guys. I just want someone with enough talent and enough character to main event TV with a DeColt with zero build. Trouble is, he’ll never get the focus he perhaps deserves. His stories (Nate, Chandler...) peter out because I don’t have time to tell them. I credit him with a lot of Donte's improvements in 2013. His return as ‘El Eet’ is a bit of a middle-finger to the stipulation, but it's kinda fun, isn't it? The name was a last minute change (other options including "Billboardio" and "Advertisario") and I didn't plan on him actually doing high-flying until WreSpi3 came out and, sure enough, he could fly. It was heartbreaking to write him out, but that’s life as a babyface in DeColt Country. I am a mark for Bobby Thomas in this diary. His mercenary gimmick is just perfect, and so established here. He is the perfect supporting character who shines every moment he is on camera, but never steals anybody's thunder either. I'd love to see him get a big push, but understand why that won't happen. I was very tempted as the superfan to request him the title shot at Price, but it felt to random and not somebody a superfan would request. Same regarding Eddie Chandler, who is another favorite of mine in this diary. I was sorry the Price/McClean match was so bad... I forgot how strong the heel/face divide's meaning is for CGC. McClean just seemed like a reasonable choice who was also a character I like.

<p>Actually "oops". Thrill Seeker did make it into the Power 500. Along with Shane Nelson, Grease Hogg and Lead Belly. I pulled them out to write a separate article about screwing up the tag division, and when I scrapped that I forgot to put them back in. I think the four of them came in close together, between Gargantuan and Golden.</p><p> </p><p>

"Poor Thrill Seeker" is right. Another victim of time. I had ideas for him. Not big ideas. Nothing huge. Just a supporting role in an episode here and there to develop him a little. Things that had to be moved, tweaked, then deleted to keep focus where it needed to be. I don't know if I'd call him one of my best workers. He can sell, he can fly... but he's small and isn't a very good brawler. I already have a midget in the upper card (He's Batman now) so why would I need another?</p><p> </p><p>

I'll check the data and update the above list now. Put the worst tag team reunion in history in there.</p>
