Good show, I love the Vince pic! I'm not all that familiar with the storylines of the time but the prospect of Sheiky and Hogan is fun.

Its Wrestlemania III brother the immovable object vs the immortal force......Hogan vs Andre 100,000 fans in Detroit taking their vitamins and saying their prayers.....The Iron Sheik is just a speed bump on the road to Wrestlemania

<p>March 8th, 1987</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35660" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">From the journal of James Hill:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Quite an eventful first week on the job!</p><p> </p><p> In my previous time working for the Federation, it appeared to me that there were a few too many malcontents who were poisoning the locker room atmosphere. So, immediately upon arriving, I cut loose several employees who were causing problems. By the end of my first day, Barry Orton, Corporal Kirchner, Paul Boesch, Blackjack Lanza, Moondog Rex, Ivan Putski, Curtis Iaukea, Tom Magee and Terry Garvin were all gone. None of them had a guaranteed contract, so the firings didn't cost the company a cent.</p><p> </p><p> The lone drawback was that Cowboy Bob Orton was, understandably, upset with me for releasing his brother. I tried to smooth things over by giving Bob a month's paid vacation, but even though that did mollify him somewhat, I think he's still pretty angry.</p><p> </p><p> All those firings gave me some more financial freedom to stock our newly-created subsidiary promotion, United States Pro Wrestling (USPW for short.) After arranging for my old pals Gerald Brisco and Chief Jay Strongbow to serve as the primary instructors for the new territory, I assembled a team of knowledgeable scouts to make acquisition recommendations, and also utilized my own knowledge of the wrestling world beyond the WWF. With that combination, I think we've put together a very promising nucleus of talent waiting in the wings for the call-up to the main roster. I've included my preliminary notes on them below:</p><p> </p><p> <em>-Sting, 27: Sting was the #1 recommendation from my scouts, but I would have targeted him either way. A member of the UWF before we signed him, Sting only has a year of experience. He's a decent worker, but where he really stands out is his sheer star quality. The guy has megastar written all over him.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -Mark Callous, 21: The #2 recommendation from my scouts, and the only one from their list aside from Sting that I've signed thus far. I'll be honest; he wasn't on my radar until the list of hidden gems was handed to me. He'd been working for World Class as Texas Red, a glorified jobber, and so obviously he jumped at the chance to join the biggest promotion in the world. He's a decent brawler, but similar to Sting, it's his star quality and sheer presence that really stand out.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -Shawn Michaels, 21: Michaels is 1/2 of the current AWA tag champions The Midnight Rockers. I wanted to sign both he and his partner, Marty Jannetty, but Marty was resistant to the idea of reporting to USPW, so Shawn will fly solo for now. I may or may not bring Marty in and reform the team once I'm ready to call Shawn up to the main roster, but either way, I view Shawn as the true star of the team.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -Mick Foley, 21: Foley, otherwise known as Cactus Jack, had been working as an opener for the AWA. He's already a top-flight brawler despite his young age, and I was also very impressed with his ability to communicate verbally when I brought him in for our meeting. He doesn't have the traditional wrestling superstar look, but he is certainly a unique performer. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -Al Snow, 23: Snow is a 4-year pro who was working for AGPW as Steve Moore, primarily working as an opening-level talent. He doesn't excel in any one area, but doesn't have any glaring flaws either. He's a jack-of-all-trades, who I can see becoming a very dependable member of our roster.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -Mike Rotundo, 28: Rotundo is no stranger to the Federation, having been a former 2-time WWF Tag Team Champion with Barry Windham. But despite his experience, he had no problem reporting to USPW rather than coming straight back to the WWF. Rotundo is a fine technical wrestler, and understands the entertainment side of the business too. Plus, we stole him away from our chief rival, Jim Crockett Promotions. Score!</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton, 30, and Robert Gibson, 28): I signed the RnR in an effort to bolster our tag team division, targeting them only after my negotiations with Marty Jannetty broke down and I gave up on bringing the Midnight Rockers to USPW. I was a bit surprised that Morton and Gibson didn't voice any complaints about going into our feeder promotion considering their high spots on the card for Crockett. Good for us, bad for Crockett. And I know that anything that's bad for Crockett will make Vince happy.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -The Malenko Brothers (Dean, 26, and Joe, 31): Another pair of signings made with the future of the tag division in mind. The Malenkos had been teaming together for All Japan, but were pretty low on the totem pole. They are both very good technicians, but are lacking in charisma. They will probably need to have a manager do their talking for them once they're called up. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> -Rick Rude, 28: A last-minute addition to the list, as I literally just sealed the deal with him. But while he may have been the last person on the list, I have a feeling he'll probably be the first one called up. I don't have any plans for him yet, though, and since he was willing to report to USPW, I decided to let him get some work in there before debuting him with us. Plus, as he was 1/2 of the NWA tag champs with Manny Fernandez, we've screwed Crockett over once again, which seems to be turning into a pastime of mine.</em> </p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <hr noshade size=3></p><p> I probably won't do posts like this one regularly, but I felt it was important to note the creation of the developmental fed and the initial slew of hirings for it. Despite holding back and not signing several guys I would have liked to, I still worry that I may have overdone it a bit. But I needed to fill the roster out, and these were the best guys for the job. </p><p> </p><p> Also, I'm planning on consolidating both TV shows into one post in the future, which I think will make it easier to follow along. Just a heads-up.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="rjhabeeb" data-cite="rjhabeeb" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35660" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Like the new writeup style its not ROH but WWF isnt ROH......also with the extra shows you'll produce it should work well</div></blockquote><p> Yeah, there was no way I could stick with my old style in this diary if I hope to progress as far as I want to. I don't think it would make for a very interesting read anyhow. Who wants to read a lengthy write-up about a TV match between Hogan and Nikolai Volkoff? <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> PPV write-ups should be a bit longer, but still not likely at the length of some of those ROH shows.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Ritchardo" data-cite="Ritchardo" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35660" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Excellent! <p> </p><p> Really looking forward to seeing how you go when you get your teeth sunk into this one and you've beaten me to the punch - my laptop is in the shop getting repaired today and I should have it back tomorrow... After making the switch to your organic sets for this diary, there's no way I could ever go back. I love that there's no set background; it gives the pics more...personality, if that makes sense. I also love that I can easily do my own cuts for this set, something I would never have even tried on any of the others.</p><p> </p><p> Long story short...the organic pack is awesome. I'm enjoying the freshness of playing in a vastly different era, even if I'm not as familiar with some of the workers (I only watched WWF growing up; don't think I'd even heard of Flair before he showed up there in the early 90's.)</p>

<p>USPW looks super strong and should provide some exciting action (stocked like Cornette's OVW was when he had Cena, Orton, Lesnar, etc)</p><p> </p><p>

assuming it's still based in Memphis which could be why R&R Express didn't give you any flack since that's where they got their start (and Ricky's dad Paul was a long time referee). Interestingly, Sting, Rude, Callous (master of pain) and Cactus Jack all spent some of their forumative years in Memphis (and the Midnight Rockers actually played a heel team when they travelled through)</p><p> </p><p>

Looking forward to WMIII and beyond</p>

March 19th, 1987

From the Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas

Attendance: 16,300 (sell-out!)

Announce Team: Gorilla Monsoon, Vince McMahon and Jesse "The Body" Ventura

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/BobbyHeenan.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/Slick.jpg

Footage was shown from earlier in the day, where unbeknownst to either of them, WWF cameras caught a conversation between Bobby Heenan and Slick. Heenan told Slick to make sure that Sheik stuck to the plan, “just like Volkoff did”. Heenan spotted the running camera not long after, and yelled at the cameraman to beat it and leave them to their business.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/HulkHogan.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/MeanGene.jpg

Mean Gene asked Hogan about the footage that had just been shown, and whether in light of both that and his injured ribs, it was wise for him to wrestle the Iron Sheik as scheduled.

Hogan: ”Well you know something Mean Gene, I've been the WWF Champion for three years, and that's all because of my Hulkamaniacs, brother! They've stood by me every step of the way, and I'm not gonna let them down! They wanna see me take down the Sheik tonight, so even if there is a plot between those two scumbags Heenan and Slick, I'm not gonna back down! And all the Hulkamaniacs wanna see me slay the giant at WrestleMania, so that's exactly what I'm gonna do, broken ribs or not, brother!”

The Young Stallions vs. The Dream Team (w/Johnny Valiant)

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/PaulRoma.jpg:originalhttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/JimPowers.jpg:original vs. http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/BrutusBeefcake.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/GregValentine.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/JohnnyValiant.jpg

Johnny Valiant had insisted that there were no issues within the Dream Team, and that looked to be true during this match, as they worked together perfectly well. The Stallions, a brand new team looking to make their mark in the Federation, looked quite impressive in taking the fight to their more experienced opponents with a power-based offensive attack. But it was the duo with the big match experience who walked away victorious when Valentine trapped Roma in a Figure Four.

Winners: The Dream Team with the Figure Four by Valentine on Roma at 07:29

Viewers were treated to a view of the interior of a beautiful, sprawling mansion filled with expensive furnishing and décor. We then moved outside, to a massive pool surrounded by several servants. And lounging inside the pool, drinking a glass of the finest champagne, was this man:

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/TedDiBiase.jpg:original

He introduced himself to the audience as the “Million Dollar Man”, Ted DiBiase, and apologized for being caught at such an unimpressive dwelling (this, he explained, was a hovel he only retreated to while his cleaning crew was busy working on all of his other, real houses). DiBiase then let viewers know that, despite his wealth meaning he never had to work a day in his life, he would soon be coming to the WWF.

DiBiase: ”I am coming to the WWF for one simple reason: to show all of you common, average people that hard work and sacrifice don't mean a thing. It is money that makes the world go 'round, and that world revolves around me. Because, as you are going to learn, everybody's got a price for the Million Dollar Man! HAHAHAHAHAHA!”

Ricky Steamboat (w/George Steele) vs. Magnificent Muraco

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/RickySteamboat.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/GeorgeSteele.jpg vs. http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/MagnificentMuraco.jpg:original

The man who hopes to become the Intercontinental champ at WrestleMania III had a tough battle in front of him against Muraco (now sans Mr. Fuji), himself a former 2-time Intercontinental titleholder. It was a classic matchup of styles, with the smaller Steamboat using his speed advantage and martial arts background to keep his foe off-balance. Muraco, meanwhile, relied on brute strength to try and keep Steamboat down and insert himself back into the IC title picture. The two men had a very competitive and exciting match, which Steamboat won with a Karate Chop off of the top rope.

Winner: Ricky Steamboat with a Flying Karate Chop at 10:29

Grade: B

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/GeorgeSteele.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/RickySteamboat.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/RandySavage.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/MissElizabeth.jpg

Randy Savage and Elizabeth both showed up in the aisle after the match, and Savage warned Steamboat not to get his hopes up after this win.

Savage: ”Magnificent Muraco might be a former 2-time Intercontinental champion, but he's not the Macho Man, no way, no how! I am the greatest Intercontinental champion there's ever been, hands down, bar none, yeah! And at WrestleMania, the whole world will see that “the madness” can take out anything in its path...even a dragon. OOOH YEAH!”

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/JakeRoberts.jpg:original

Jake Roberts was back in the Snake Pit, appearing on TV for the first time since Honky Tonk Man had brutalized him with his guitar in that very same pit a month earlier. Roberts admitted that he'd underestimated HTM; he'd seen him only as a wannabe rock 'n' roller, and hadn't taken him seriously. Honky had proven to him that underneath that faux Elvis exterior was a vicious, nasty, evil man.

Roberts: ”But unfortunately for you, Mr. Honky Tonk Man, I know a thing or two about being vicious, being nasty, and being evil. At WrestleMania, you will get an up close and personal look at just how vicious, nasty and evil I can be. And you will also get an up close and personal look at a true rock 'n' roll superstar, because I've invited a special guest to be in my corner who will be more than happy to teach you all about making a #1 hit.”

Hulk Hogan vs. The Iron Sheik (w/Slick)

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/HulkHogan.jpg vs. http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/TheIronSheik.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/Slick.jpg

Much like Volkoff had two weeks earlier, Sheik focused more on trying to hurt Hogan as opposed to actually trying to win. He had a clear target thanks to the assault from the Heenan Family at the end of last weeks show, as Hogan's ribs were heavily bandaged. Sheik attacked the injured ribs whenever he had the chance, but Hulk fought through the pain and made his comeback, capping it off with the Big Leg for the pinfall.

Winner: Hulk Hogan with the Big Leg Drop at 12:16

Grade: B

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/HulkHogan.jpghttp://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/TFCTGA/BobbyHeenan.jpg

As Hulk celebrated his big win, Bobby Heenan appeared in the aisle. A smirking Heenan congratulated Hogan on beating the Sheik, and also made some sarcastic remarks about hoping his ribs were feeling OK. But, he said, Hogan and his little Hulkamaniacs should soak this moment up, because it would be their last.

Heenan: ”At WrestleMania, Hogan, you will lose what you hold so dear, that World Wrestling Federation championship, and this lovely little fairy tale you've been living in for the last three years will finally be finished. But you won't have to wait for WrestleMania to see your old pal Andre again, because he will be in the building, live and in person, next week right here on Superstars!”

Velvet McIntyre defeated WWF Women's Champion The Fabulous Moolah in a non-title bout with an Inside Cradle at 06:33. (C-)

Adrian Adonis (w/Jimmy Hart) responded to Roddy Piper's comments from the previous week's Superstars of Wrestling. Adrian vowed that it would be Piper who was shaved bald at WrestleMania, but said that at least the lack of hair would detract attention away from his hideous skirt. (C+)

A video was played in which the “Million Dollar Man”, Ted DiBiase, was informed by a sales clerk that a high-end clothing store would not close its doors so he could shop in the store without any other customers getting in his way. In response, DiBiase bought the store itself, and took great pleasure in firing the devastated clerk. (C-)

Demolition (w/Johnny Valiant) defeated the Can-Am Connection in 07:13 with the Demolition Decapitation on Tom Zenk. ©

Just as they'd done to Brian Blair the previous week, Demolition destroyed Tom Zenk after the match to the point that he had to be stretchered out. (B-)

The Heenan Family's King Kong Bundy, Paul Orndorff, King Harley Race and Hercules (w/Bobby Heenan) defeated Billy Jack Haynes, Jim Brunzell and The Islanders in 09:36 with the Full Nelson by Hercules on Haynes. ©

After the match, Heenan cut a promo on behalf of his men, promising that at WrestleMania, Hercules would defeat Haynes with the Full Nelson once again, Race would force Junkyard Dog to bow down to him, and either Bundy or Orndorff would easily win the 15-man Battle Royal. (B)

Overall Show Grade: C+

(Backstage Notes: There was a minor altercation between Jake Roberts and Tom Zenk. Zenk was let go after the show, though as the altercation was Jake's doing, the two events are unrelated.)

<em>Savage is destined for bigger and better things and booking 101 dictates that Ricky has to get his just deserts</em></p><p> </p><p>

WWF World Tag Team Championship: <strong>The Hart Foundation </strong>vs. The British Bulldogs</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Tough one to call but I'm going with the Harts to retain - we need at least one heel to hold a title.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Hair vs. Hair: <strong>Roddy Piper</strong> vs. Adrian Adonis</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Another tough one given Hot Rod's possible defection... but I figure this is where you're going to take a bit of a right turn from what happened in reality and Piper ain't going anywhere!</em></p><p> </p><p>

Loser Must Bow: Junkyard Dog vs. <strong>King Harley Race</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>There have been more face victories than heels here and the King could step up to the IC or World title scence easily.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Jake Roberts </strong>vs. Honky Tonk Man</p><p> </p><p>

<em>I've never been fond of Honky Tonk as a wrestler or a character - he was an effective heel, I guess, but Jake could be gold if handled correctly... and it's not as a face!</em></p><p> </p><p>

Full Nelson Challenge: Billy Jack Haynes vs. <strong>Hercules</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Billy Jack is a jacka$$ backstage and this could be the beginning of the end for him - I'm backing Herc.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<p>Fan Scorecard:</p><p> </p><p>

WWF World Heavyweight Championship: <strong>Hulk</strong> <strong>Hogan</strong> vs. Andre The Giant</p><p>

As great as faces chasing Andre would be his declining physical abilities makes me doubt it</p><p>

WWF Intercontinental Championship: Randy Savage vs. <strong>Ricky</strong> <strong>Steamboat</strong></p><p>

Savage as heel or face is gold</p><p>

WWF World Tag Team Championship: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Hart</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> vs. The British Bulldogs</p><p>

Hope you have big plans for Bret soon</p><p>

Hair vs. Hair: Roddy Piper vs. <strong>Adrian</strong> <strong>Adonis</strong></p><p>

Need to find someone to face Hulk with weekly ppvs....in my TGA game Vince told me to bury Adrian</p><p>

Loser Must Bow: Junkyard Dog vs. <strong>King Harley Race</strong></p><p>

Race or Adrian Adonis are the go to guys for lower level ppvs</p><p>

<strong>Jake Roberts</strong> vs. Honky Tonk Man</p><p>

I dont see any value in using HTM</p><p>

Full Nelson Challenge: <strong>Billy Jack Haynes</strong> vs. Hercules</p><p>

Could see a double Count out but the Heenan family will need a foil other than Hogan</p><p>

15-man Over the Top Rope Battle Royal, featuring: Brutus Beefcake, Butch Reed, Don Muraco, Greg Valentine, Jacques Rogeau, Jim Duggan, Jim Powers, <strong>King Kong Bundy</strong>, Koko B. Ware, Nikolai Volkoff, Paul Orndorff, Paul Roma, Raymond Rogeau, Rick Martel and Tito Santana</p><p>

Bundy or Orndorf but who can eliminate the behemoth here?</p><p>

Who was the last man eliminated from the Battle Royal?</p><p>

Tito Santana....also the match sees a Beefcake face turn</p><p>

What was the best match of the night?</p><p>

Based on TEW ratings? Hogan vs Andre if booked correctly which you are an expert at</p>
