Fantasy Football League (soccer)

Hey, not sure if anybody else is doing something like this, I've seen another fantasy football thread but I think that is for American Football. So I thought with the season kicking off in a few days now is the perfect time to start a league.

Not sure how many would be interested, but it's free to join. Once you've created your team you can go onto my leagues and then search for Grey Dog Software, the pin is 8046122. Anyone and everyone welcome but the only rule is to make either your name when you sign up, or your team name the same as your GDS account name. That way we all know who everybody is. I've done it so my name is Mr Christmas Ape and my team name is Ape's Army.

In general I think it's a good fantasy football, I was going to do it on the sun but then I read that they don't give points out for assists which I personally think is a bit weird.

Click here to start picking your team but if you want you can just auto pick it for now, I don't think the teams lock in for a few days yet. I know I've not picked my team yet at all. I think the team name and pin is all you will need to join the league but let me know if it isn't. Hopefully I'll see some people on it!

P.S I've not followed football so much in the past few years so don't think bad of me if my team is awful...

Leaving out Lambert was painful. Rovers legend, getting his first England cap this week, but sadly now too expensive to be "the cheap one" up front. Good ol' 40 year old Kevin Phillips wll step into that role. ¬_¬. I figure Palace won't have too many goal threats, so any goals they do get will probably be from Kev. The only other name I recognised that I could've afforded without rejigging the team was Vecchio at Norwhich.</p><p> </p><p> Hopefully Agger will be good, and turn "you're the best I can afford mate, sorry" into "I picked you because I knew you were good value!". I could've had Jags or Cahill for the same price, but I've got a basic rule: Never pick more than one defender/goalkeeper from the same club. That way, if someone gets hammered unexpectedly, only one player has lost me a load of points. ¬_¬</p><p> </p><p> I went for Vorm over Jaaskelainen in goal because I always go for Jussi but fancied a change. As a man, as a footballer, as a centreback... just generally scares me. ¬_¬</p><p> </p><p> Whenever I have money left over I generally look at my squad and see who I could "upgrade" with the spare cash. </p><p> </p><p> Interesting that a lot of people have gone for a back four. Defenders to me are just liabilities; they get 4pts for a clean sheet (but your striker gets 5 for scoring), no points if they let a goal in, and -1 for every goal after the first they let in. Even the ones who get lots of goals or assists don't make up for the minuses IMO. You don't get any more points for a goal/assist for being a defender rather than any other player, so I'd rather have the extra striker.</p><p> </p><p> So the ultimate defenders would obviously be ones who play every game for their team but don't let in many goals. But the Big Four all have expensive defenders. So if you're going to have non-big-4 defenders I only want to have three. And Agger keeps wanting to shoot, maybe he'll score a few.</p>

<p>Yeah I agree with the defenders thing. The best people are those who play in a more attacking role than the website has them in. Like Baines and Coleman will be very attacking for wing backs and lots of midfielder a basically second strikers or very attacking wingers. </p><p> </p><p>

I'll be annoyed if MichiganHeroes Dzeko does well, I had him in mine till the last minutem think he could be a good pick. Risky to go with any city striker but I can imagine him cementing a first team spot, to have a starting city striker for just 5.3 would be really good.</p>

Replaced Darren Fletcher with James Morrison for two reasons.

1) Fletcher might not even play this season.

2) Morrison's goal last night was probably the best goal of the night and with that he won his way into my heart/team.

Also loving bestbitter's tactic. ¬_¬

Pfft, nothing was better than Rickie Lambert's goal.

First ever touch of the ball at international level, 2m 43s into his debut. BANG.

Once a Gashead, always a Gashead (except Ian Atkins, who's just gas. And that idiot Scotland call an assistant manager, Mark McGhee, who's essentially a conman), screw Southampton. ¬_¬

Edit: Ahahaha, nice one bestbitter :D

Edit2: As I've just noticed (thanks to 20L) that Walcott is listed as a midfielder, I've had a rejig. ¬_¬ Ivanovic and Shelvey out, Walcott and Naughton in.

Funny thing about Morrison is that he was capped at almost every level for England and now plays for Scotland. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></p><p> </p><p> Aye, Mark McGhee is useless.</p>

<p><span>http://snag.gy/eGKzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

I'm in, and I think you can tell the defense was thrown together with available funds at the end, and not really planned for. Predicting Wilshere to stay fit, Lampard to continue bagging goals (even if from the bench), and Wolfswinkel to pay off for Norwich. Plus Southampton's defense to do decent I guess <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />.</p><p> </p><p>

Edit : My inner-tinkerman got loose, and my team now barely resembles the one above. Cant screenshot because I am on my phone, but I got Van Persie and Bale to make a more well rounded team...including a real defence this time <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />.</p>

<p>I've only just seen the league with the points updated. Knew I did quite well but didn't expect to be first! </p><p> </p><p>

Annoyed that Rat, Carroll and Kagawa all didn't start though. </p><p> </p><p>

Have you made some subs? Because Coleman and Soldado both scored but you only have 1 goal.</p>

Yeah, after de Bruyne's debut the Mata/Hazard/Oscar/de Bruyne situation will be an interesting one this season...

Disappointing to be second-bottom, especially as only one of my players didn't feature. Hopefully as the season goes on we'll see more from Berba and Sessignon.

My Sun Dream Team is doing a bit better (Mignolet, Baines, Azpi, Rangel :(, Riise; Cazorla, Walcott, Sessegnon; RVP, Lambert, Berba). My Sky Sports FF teams are mixed though. I have an 'Underdogs' team (nobody from last season's top five) and a normal team, and my Underdogs are winning because nobody from my normal team's midfield scored a single point. ¬_¬

I'm above D-Lyrium. That's all I care about. Also Ivanovic seems to be a beast so far, glad I picked him (If only for the fact he's called Ivanhoe by like my entire family & Chris Kamara. :p)

Also, good to see my strike force picking up some points. Although Michu is slipping behind Soldado & Dzeko worryingly.
