CQI13
I would look for the kinds of guys you want to have on your roster. Are they workhorses? Are they more entertainers? What kind of fed are you looking to run - Wrestling as Sport or Sports Entertainment - or somewhere in between?

Is medium Cult? or Regional? Also, remember grades are relative...IF you start at local, a 40 is fantastic. So it depends on your popularity and the region you are running the show in.

**Edit**

Could always give yourself a good avatar who would end up being your superstar/focus...say Christian Faith or James Justice, or go younger.

CQI13
I would say look at guys like Ernest Youngman, The American Cobras (Storm Spillane & Marvel Malloy), and some of the "talent" in GSW/IPW - Frantic Ali, Fro Sure, Lil Henry.

I always start booking from a storylines perspective. I look for characteristics or pictures, or even clues in the bios to start crafting the characters. Once you do that, you can start matching up people for feuds.

Early on, you may want to turn off storylines until you're able to get your feet under you, so to speak and start cranking out better grades. Alternatively, get yourself a great menace guy, a couple of high sex appeal girls, and a few talkers, and center your storylines around them. The others being in storylines rated lower than the requirement won't give you any issues.
Condors
I recommand a plan.

Your goal is to create 4 guys who can carry your company.

look at the hot prospects see if anyone looks to have a high pop cap. Get those guys on a roll.

The guys who are not considered hot prospects. These guys can be job squad central. (to qualify must be under 30 and pushed as midcarder or less) if you want to keep the guy long term get them wins after loses.

managing popularity is your primary concern. If something works make a note of it. If something doesn't also make a note of that.

Most of your grade is going to come from your last 2 matches and your top 3 angles get your best people there and fill in the blanks.
Irish Wolf
Managing wins and losses is tough especially for your jobbers. Yes their job is to make your main guys look good but if they take too many losses they're overness and momentum will stall, and then they aren't much use to you for putting over your top guys.. For this I hire four guys (two faces and two heels) on a three month stint and rotate through unemployed guys since after their three months they won't want to come back for another six. If these guys lose 20 times in their three months its not gonna matter because once they're gone when you rehire them 6 months down the line their recent fortunes will be reset. bigtplaystew
Great advice so far. The only thing I'd like to add is not to forget about tag team chemistry. When you have your initial roster, make sure you try every single possible combination you can to find great chemistry. Those boosts can make a difference. While your company is just starting out, it would be a prudent move to build a main event tag team division.

One of the keys to my company's success in my current game was my tag team division. I kept running tag team matches to find chemistry bonuses. I was lucky enough to have some pretty good workers have great chemistry together. And I have to say when I look at my company's history 7 of our top ten matches were tag team matches.

I think main event level tag teams get a bit overlooked at the TCW/SWF level because they are expensive. Why pay for four guys to be in the main event when you can pay for two and get the same result? But at the smaller levels those teams who had great chemistry consistently gave me solid matches.
