This is just a reminder for those expecting a show tonight that the playoff edition of The League will not be up until Friday. I expect it to be two posts due to six 2/3 falls bouts and an Iron Man finale.

Of the eight playoff participants, half have sent in training (admirredly, two of those are mine <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />). If they come in early, I can run matches early and minimize risk of it being posted late as I'll have time to add commentary and such.

Working on show now. Average of twenty minutes per non-final match, thirty-four pages before adding in my extras, commentary, and formatting.

Instead of spreading this out, I'm going to do the playoffs in one post so that the weekend can start on a good note. I'm also blatantly making this post so that the next show goes in a new page (at 40 posts per page) and thus preventing four shows on this page alone.

After the usual pyrotechnics start the show, the cameras pan around the Grey Dog Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand, where The League's famed "Virtual Arena" set up has returned for this event. No fewer than three dozen video feeds are being played out on canvases that line the top two tiers of seating in the stadium, while close to 10,000 people are in attendance in the lower and ringside seats. It's a crisp autumn afternoon here for the playoffs as the camera shifts to ringside and our three-person announce team.

Bob Sinclair: Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the final broadcast of The League for Season Seven! Tonight, we find out who will walk away with bragging rights and the League Championship!

Tori Montgomery: If you were a betting man, Bob—

Frankie Garnett: And we all know I am!

Tori Montgomery: --the smart money's on a new first-time champion. There's only two men competing tonight who have a shot at becoming the first two-time League Champion; the numbers certainly favor the field tonight!

Frankie Garnett: We'll know in about three hours, Tori...and with any luck, I'll have won enough money to be set for life!

Bob Sinclair: We have a lot to get through tonight, so without further ado, let's go to the ring to get the playoffs underway!

Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" hits the speakers barely a moment before our next competitor emerges from backstage. He makes no gestures to the fans, nor does he seem to showboat, as he stalks towards the ring and enters from the near side. Still ignoring the crowd, he removes his ring jacket and stands patiently in the corner, waiting for the bell to sound.

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, our opening contest is a first round match scheduled for the best two out of three falls! Introducing first, the number eight seed...from San Jose, California, weighing 239 pounds..."All Business" Connor Blackstone!

Bob Sinclair: Blackstone was one of the last to get a spot in the playoffs, locking up his spot last week by getting a win and a little help in a few matches.

Tori Montgomery: While I'm not sold on his chances tonight, the fact that he didn't buckle under pressure and manage to secure himself a playoff spot shows that he's got as much of a chance here as anyone else.

Frankie Garnett: That's where we disagree, Tori. I think Bleakstone's got no chance at all here; and I see this going down in about ten minutes flat.

Billy Idol's "Shock to the System" hits the speakers, bringing the crowd to their feet in ovation as one of the League's more recognizable faces emerges from backstage and across the green-tinted stage. As he reaches the bottom of the ramp, Nuclear raises his arms in the air, causing twin mushroom clouds to explode on the entrance stage before he slides into the ring, ready to go.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, the number five seed...from Atlantic City, New Jersey, weighing 278 pounds...Nuclear Templeton!

Bob Sinclair: Templeton comes in as the third favorite, behind the top two seeds. Tori, do you find it odd that a wild card entrant has better odds than two of our division winners?

Tori Montgomery: One, yes. Not both. Then again, Templeton has come close so many times in the past, that the usual refrain has to come up here—is this finally his season?

Frankie Garnett: Given that he's going to have to win four matches instead of the usual three, I'm thinking no, and also want it noted that I find this unfair!

Tori Montgomery: Duly noted and summarily ignored.

The anticipation builds as the opening to Dream Theater's "Pull Me Under" hits the arena speakers, causing a few of the lights at the entryway to flash alternately. As the opening builds to a crescendo, he finally makes an appearance, sneering a bit at the assembled audience as he begins his stride to the ring. Focusing his attention on the ring itself, he climbs up the steps and ducks between the ropes, shedding his entrance jacket as he stonily gazes toward the center of the ring.

Amelia Williams: This opening round bout is scheduled for the best two out of three falls! Introducing first, the number seven seed... from Charlotte, North Carolina, by way of Osaka, Japan, weighing 230 pounds..."The Gaijin Crippler," Sean Lyaskaris!

Bob Sinclair: Sean comes in as one of the two men who can become the League's first two-time champion, but he has a tough task ahead of him tonight.

Tori Montgomery: The least of which is figuring out how he's going to follow up the match of the regular season he had against his tag team opponent.

Frankie Garnett: This is going to be good, and I cannot wait!

Frankie's comment is rudely interrupted by the crack of something hard smacking him over the back of the head. There is a clatter as his headset falls to the desk, and Tori and Bob scatter as a figure garbed in black, wearing black gloves and black glasses over a black ski mask pulls Frankie's head up by the hair and quickly slams it into the announce table. The audience, video feeds, staff, and even Celeste are stunned into inactivity as the figure reaches behind him, and pulls out a billy club that had apparently been tucked in the back of their pants. There is a momentary pause before they bring it to bear, connecting with various parts of Frankie's body. The camera lingers on this scene for a moment before it is hurriedly cut to pictures of the stunned crowd. The audio, however, doesn't get patched out as quickly, and the last thing we hear before the feed scrambles to a highlight reel of the matches so far is the sound of Frankie blubbering and crying in pain as an audible "snap" is heard.

Tori Montgomery: Frankie may not be the most sociably acceptable person in the world, and yeah, I wouldn't be seen in his company outside of League events. But even I think that was going a bit too far.

Bob Sinclair: Frankie is being sent to a local medical facility; if we get word on his condition before the end of the show, we'll pass it on to you. As difficult as it may seem, we have to shift gears again, as we still have one more match remaining this evening, and it's for the League Championship.

Tori Montgomery: Celeste Skye is still in the ring, looking a bit shaken and with good reason. Her manager, Daichi Tsukuda, has come back out here from the backstage area to try to calm his niece down before the main event. We're just waiting on her opponent, who should be arriving any moment now.

The opening chords of Evanescence's "Tourniquet" blare through the arena as the lights fall to darkness. Black lights highlight the entrance, and a lone figure can be seen emerging from backstage, the white lines on her outfit glowing a violet shade in the light. As the refrain of the song hits, she takes off in a sprint, leaping up to slide under the bottom rope. As she slows to a stop, she hops onto her feet and climbs the nearest turnbuckle, throwing a hand in the air as the lights revert to normal.

Bob Sinclair: Picked out of a nationwide talent search just four months ago, no one believed she would be here. But the evidence is in front of you—Amelia Midnight, a backyard wrestler from Colorado, has a chance to walk out of Auckland as the League Champion.

Tori Montgomery: This is going to be a great match, and remember Bob, these two were on opposite sides in the Tag Team Turmoil final, so both know what to expect from an Iron Man match. My prediction is Skye by two falls, 9-7, but we'll find out soon enough.

League Championship Post-Interview

(Sorry about the late interview. I've been pretty busy at work to reply. Good matches between Celeste, Nuclear, and Amelia)

Auckland, New Zealand - After a tough matchup against the always tough Nuclear Templeton to get to the finals, Celeste Skye was a witness to the brutal mauling of Frankie Garnett as she was preparing to face Amelia Midnight in the first ever League Finale involving two women for the League Championship. After a fierce Iron Man battle in which both women were bloodied and battered, Celeste managed to pull off the victory to become the League's first female champion. As she is shaking Amelia's hand, League reporter Sophia Russell goes to talk with the new champion for a quick interview.

Sophia Russell: First off, congratulations on winning the League Championship Celeste.

Celeste Skye: Thank you Sophia!!

SR: How were you able to withstand the punishment that you took and the massive loss of blood that occurred during this match?

CS: First off, I want to thank both Amelia and Nuclear for the hard-fought matches. Both gave me a tough time, but through the hard work that I put into training this week, I was able to persevere.

As for how I managed to survive the match, I felt that I had to finish the match, no matter the consequences. What kept me going was my family at ringside cheering me on as well as the motivation to finish what I started in Week One. Their support as well as my confidence in my abilities helped to keep me going when a normal person would have fainted or collapse due to the loss of blood.

SR: Now to your opponent, Amelia Midnight. For most of the match, she was not only able to keep up with your pace, she even managed to take a brief lead during the halfway point before you rallied off three straight falls to take the lead for good. Despite being at a disadvantage, she was still able to make things tough on you. How would you describe the effort and heart that Amelia showed tonight?

CS: Amelia put up a great fight tonight. I could see it in her eyes that she wanted to win the title as badly as I did. At the beginning of the match, she was able to use her speed to her advantage as I had trouble slowing her down completely. Whenever I got a fall, she would have one shortly after. As the match progressed, I was able to slow her down by using holds and the Skye Lock to weaken her legs which helped to slow her down. Even after all the damage that I did to her leg, she kept fighting, hitting me with everything that she could throw at me until the end.

SR: Before I let you go to the back, your uncle was ejected after tripping Midnight late in the match despite the fact that you had a three fall lead. As he walked by the family, his son Yori could be seen shaking his head in disappointment at his father. Have you talked with him to ask why he would do that with the match already in hand?

CS: I'm disappointed at him at the moment to be honest. I think the he got caught up in the heat of the moment, but that still did not excuse him for what he did to Amelia. We will have a discussion with him as soon as I get back from the press conference.

SR: Once again, Congrats to you Celeste. See you at the press conference.

CS: Thanks.

A few moments later, Celeste, appearing in a fancy dress, arrives at the press conference following her checkup. As she sits, her uncle is noticeably absent. Not wanting to keep the media waiting, Sophia begins the press conference.

Al Winters of the LA Times. Now that you conquered the League, what are your plans for the immediate future?

CS: Well, I recently got a few calls on appearing in a couple of movies in a cameo role as well as one film in which I have a major role in the film. I also planning to do voice acting for the second season of Justice that will air in the fall. So I plan to keep pretty busy for the next week months.

Mike Johnson of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. one question that must be asked: Will you return to defend your title next season?

CS: I'm still debating, but I'm leaning toward returning. Next question?

Elaine Newton from the New York Times. With this win, you have paved the way for future women by winning the League Championship. My question is who or what motivated you to push toward this goal?

CS: well, Elaine, i must first thank Diamond for becoming the first woman to join the League. She was an inspiration for me when I first came to the decision to join the League and I want to thank her for opening that door.

Secondly, my uncle gave me motivation to join as he felt that facing off against the various members of the League would help in terms of doing my own stunts and scenes during my career.

Alan Myers from the New Zealand Herald. Late in the match, we saw your uncle trip up Amelia Midnight even though you had a comfortable lead. When you saw that, what was your reaction?

CS: I couldn't believe that he would do something so selfish. Amelia, on behalf of my uncle, and my family, I am sorry for his actions. He was unable to be here, but he wanted me to tell everyone that he was sorry and that he let the moment get to him. One final question.

Thomas Weir of The Washington Post. Now that you're a champion, do you plan to do once you get home?

CS: Well, I will make a week-long visit to Japan before heading back to LA to celebrate with my fans. After that, I will do what I said earlier in the press conference.

Before I go, I want to thank all of you for showing up so late. I also want to give a shout out to Wallbanger for helping me train for this moment as well as being a great tag partner. Thread necromancy, ahoy!

So...I'm still searching for a new job in Pennsylvania, despite 70 applications and just two interviews since the last time I posted here. Been getting a few ideas in mind for Season Eight, and have been trying to work out specifics. The other project I was going to assist with seems to have come to a dead halt with limited chance of starting.

Figured I'd see if there was still some interest for an eighth season, or at the very least interest in reading along with a League-esque dynasty with a scope (think 32 wrestlers in a season) that would be non-interactive for the most part.

So right now, I'm leaning towards making this a solo venture for the next version. I have character ideas for 30 out of 32 spots (figuring on not infringing on the rights of the established characters, so needing a lot of new ideas), and would treat this as a sort of alternate world League (so if a traditional Season Eight were to happen, it wouldn't interfere with history and such). I still have to enter all said characters into the DB so it'll still be a ways before anything is ready to go, but the ideas have been percolating in my mind.

Edit to add: in case folks were wondering why I'm looking at doing things this way--with the job hunt still going and no inclination of when I would be relocating, I figured this would be less disruptive to folks if I was in the midst of a season and suddenly had to stop for a month in the middle for moving and such.

I have all 32 (to start...) character ideas down, and stats/traits created. I have intro bios for 22 of those written out. I have my divisions set up and most of the Excel spreadsheet work is done.

I only have two characters even started in the database with no move sets at all done. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> (And I still need to figure out pictures for the men in this endeavor to boot!)

I'll be away over the long weekend, and I'll try to knuckle down on this after my birthday next week. Barring winter being...well, winter, I hope that by the first of February I have enough done on the back end to get started.

Remember that I'm trying to avoid using established League folk in this endeavor so as not to cause confusion when Season Eight finally starts and suddenly we have the established heel Scott Stevens and then Mirror Universe Scott Stevens who is inexplicably face in the solo realm.
