[Release] 1991: Rising Storms 4.0

Recommended Posts

If people are finding certain workers too difficult to get over, I'm always willing to look at them.

Keep in mind though that in 1991 Cactus Jack was just a TV guy for the UWF and a jobber in big promotions while working indies around the country.

It took Foley a LONG time to get over.

It's a hard part about mods set in 1991 when people see guys they loved in 1998 and want to start using them. If you try to push Chris Jericho in 1991 you should find him green and blah as an example. I try to balance as best I can, but I really don't want it to be that you can pick up any young guy in 1991 that you know becomes good and just push him to the moon by 92.

It took a lot of work for Foley to get over. He was starting to gain some traction in WCW shortly before they let him go, with the Kevin Sullivan team and cutting some fantastic promos. Shoot, even when he was Mankind and had been feuding with (and beating!) The Undertaker for what seemed like a year, it wasn't until the Jim Ross series of interviews that Mankind/Foley got over with the WWF audience.

As far back as I can remember, he's always been incredible and between his entertainment abilities and his good-to-great in-ring work, I would hope one could get him over.

Looking at his ratings, I would maybe bump his entertainment skills as they are tricky to develop in TEW, particularly charisma. He wasn't ever an A* rated charismatic promo man, but he relied on wonderful acting and delivery to cut some of the best interviews and promos I've ever seen. I can't say I've seen a lot of his early '90s promos before his tenure in WCW though, so maybe mid to high 70s is accurate.

You might want to consider some narratives for some of those stars. However, looking at this pic, all you may need to do is up his star quality to 60. It's really, really hard to push someone with a star quality below that level in TEW mainly because that tends to cap their pop too low to main event at a National+ fed. That's got to be what other people are complaining about unless that's a ridiculously lucky destiny roll he got because those stats are amazing.

His pop is only around 55 in the U.S.

Record is 58-23 and I just started 1993. He has developed pretty nicely. I feel if I really wanted to push him to the moon, I could at this point.

Hmm, I must've edited Jack's entertainment skills and not realized it. He starts off 65 mic, 75 charisma, and 60 acting in this data. That's still good enough to start getting him over in the beginning as he's practically an unknown in most of the country.

You managed to develop his mic and charisma skills to a great degree! That's good news, particularly for charisma as it's a pain to improve. I wonder why his acting skills (maybe his best entertainment attribute in his prime years) never developed.

Thanks for posting that.

There's another one for his progress in that area. I also wonder why his acting hasn't gone up. He's plateaued there... that must have something to do with game mechanics.

Mick is definitely a hard one. I think his entertainment skills should probably a bit higher. I don't really understand star quality still, but that might be something to take a look at. I don't know if I would change much, though.

I know how frustrating it can be to not have someone develop like they did IRL. I had a bad destiny roll for Taker and had to up some of his stats... I just couldn't live with a bad Undertaker.

I think the key, especially in this time period, is to sign some low level guys that are good wrestlers to basically job and help the young guys get over. I like having Dean Malenko on my roster for that reason. I've kept Rick Martel for that reason. Putting him in a tag team with another good worker would also be a good idea. :)

From my long running WCW save right up to my latest game with Smoky Mountain Wrestling (starting the company a little earlier than in reality) I have to say that Rising Storms is the real world mod that I've played the most in TEW 13.

I would love to see this mod in TEW 16 but whether that happens or not I just want to thank you justtxyank. The time and effort you put into this mod has led to my fondest memories of playing TEW 13. Thank you!

I don't know what year the player was in, but "the real world" capped Mick Foley at a popularity under main event in everything but small promotions until he was thrown off a cage by The Undertaker and then took 1 million headshots from The Rock. Again, it took a LONG time for Foley to get over and it was after he had become a bumping machine that thrived on the microphone and used great ring psychology. He is considered by most people to be someone who overcame his lack of star quality yes?

Thanks a lot for this post! Glad people are enjoying it.

I will absolutely be porting it over for 2016 but no timetable on when. Have to see all the new features and play with an editor to see how hard it is to lower everyone's star quality! :D

Again, that's all fine and good to say. Honestly, I'd say that's probably the hardest thing historical mod makers have to deal with. You can make them what they were right at that moment, and for most people, they have a good chance of becoming what they did irl. However, there is absolutely no way of doing that with someone like Mick Foley without putting a narrative in unless you go with option 2 and bump their stats closer to what they would become potentially making them a main eventer years earlier. But to say that he should have low star quality ignores how TEW works. The game simply caps their max pop when the SQ is below 60. It's the same thing with psych and selling below 66. There are a few clear demarcation lines in the game, and 60 in SQ is one.

And also, what would happen if WCW leaves the NWA, will have the chance to make a derivate of the NWA World Heavyweight or will they have to create their own WCW World Heavyweight title from scratch?

I think I read somewhere that if you can drive their pop atleast 10 above the cap in a month that it will become the new cap. You can sacrifice your main event to him and get him over if done strategically. As long as he is not in time decline and he has the other stats to score good grades he will keep that pop. (Another gamey thing you can do is go in the editor and raise all his pop to a hundred advance a day then place it where it was. This gets rid of caps as well.)

FYI:

I will be released Rising Storms for TEW16 as well as additional mods. However, there seem to be some pretty substantial changes to the game in terms of what is moddable now, so it will take some time. Don't feel the need to ask because once the game is out I may not log in much to answer questions, but know that I will be working on a release as soon as I can get my hands on an editor.

I have just searched for this to hope you were releasing this mod.

As I consider this the best made mod for 13 I'm glad you are.

What other mods are you making?

I'm hoping to run a 1991 diary with WCW, so am delighted to hear this will be getting an update - especially with the real NWA options in place now <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
